Okay so usually I don’t send asks, but this is the week for having thoughts about Jamie’s mom and I am having a lot of them. I always got an estranged vibe from the way he talks about her, mostly from 1x06 (“I don’t think she would be, lately”) but also a bit from the way he describes the second Amsterdam trip. While they’re obviously very close, I think their relationship would inherently be kind of complicated: either Georgie 1) knew Jamie was being abused and didn’t/couldn’t do anything to stop it; 2) didn’t know and Jamie spent several years keeping a pretty massive secret — though it's something they’re able to talk about openly in 3x11; or 3) some combination of 1) and 2).

My headcanon is that they were very close when Jamie was a kid but that things became much tenser between them once James came back into the picture. Given that Jamie’s character arc is essentially him going from the kind of person that his father wanted him to be to the kind of person that his mother wanted him to be, and that his father has apparently done some things that he’s grateful for (based on the “thank you” part of “fuck you” and “thank you”), I can picture Jamie, maybe some time in his late teens, siding with James over Georgie at a time when she might have been coming to terms with and moving on from James’ influence in her life in the way Jamie is in 3x11. This is a bit more speculative, but this is also when I imagine her and Simon getting together — he and Jamie seem to get along well enough, but they don’t necessarily seem close (Simon gets a handshake instead of a hug, for instance), and Jamie only ever brings up his mom and his dad when he talks about his childhood, so I don't think he had any part in raising Jamie.

I love sooo much of this anon, it's like an echo of my own thoughts! :) I'm extremely glad we got to meet Georgie. I rewatched the episode tonight and gosh it's such an excellent one, she is excellent. Their talk was amazing.

Anyway, sorry this is so long, but you're certainly correct that it's thinking about Jamie's mum week. Here is my personal interpretation of their relationship after a day of contemplating it:

For your first paragraph on the extent she knew about Jamie being abused, my gut instinct is leaning towards option #3. Surprisingly I'm still headcannoning a lot of the backstory I wrote for them (prior to this ep) in one of my fics that featured a lot of Jamie's mum. Basically, I agree they were very close when Jamie was young, but James Tartt Sr.'s return created some new chasms and distance between them that lingered for years from Jamie's teenage years onward. I also think there's still some hints that point towards potential instability with James trying to win back Georgie and possibly being successful, i.e., Jamie's parents being on and off for a while, causing additional tension and underlying strife. Like, I really do feel there were a few very bad, formative years in there for Jamie.

Also it's highly likely Georgie was herself a victim of James' abuse. So I think, in a sense she did know there was probability his behavior was extending to their son, too. But I don't think she would have known the full extent of it (I don't believe, for example, a teenage Jamie would have come home from Amsterdam and told her what happened there. Maybe she didn't know how physically abusive James Sr. was to Jamie, either).

Him and his mum were still close in a sense, but it was strained closeness because there were so many festering secrets between them. It can be really difficult to pull out of an abusive situation even when a child is involved, so of course there's the chance that Georgie did know everything and simply couldn't get her and Jamie out of it. I have a lot of grace for that, but personally, I didn't get that sense from them. I think there would be more strain still between them in the current timeline if that were true. Instead, I think keeping secrets -- perhaps even knowing the other was keeping secrets, but pretending otherwise and never asking as a barrier for self-preservation -- protected their relationship in a way and has allowed them to get back to where they are now.

Like, when Jamie was first at Richmond and being a prick, I think there may actually have been genuine distance between them (I view the bonfire scene in the same way as you). In attempting to be the person his father wanted him to be, we know canon Jamie believes he forgot about making his mum proud. I imagine he distanced himself from her deliberately during that time especially because there was a part of him embarrassed or ashamed by who he had become, knowing he wasn't the best version of himself that she would want him to be.

I'm kind of liking the idea that they've only regained the very close relationship we saw onscreen since around the time of Jamie's second time at Man City onwards, and that it was only after Jamie started talking to a therapist that he was able to finally open up to his mum about his dad and the truth of everything that went down between them. They're extremely close again now, like they were when he was young, and he's finally at a place again where he can tell her everything, even what happened at Wembley...all of it.

For what it's worth, I interpreted the "thank you" part of Jamie's thank you/fuck you (imagined) speech to his father as less that Tartt Sr. has done specific things Jamie is grateful for, but more so that his father's general existence made him the person he is, and he is finally at peace with that. Thank you for giving me every reason to be a better man than you, sort of thing.

As for Simon, I agree completely. I'll echo the thoughts I read in a post I reblogged yesterday: Georgie waited until Jamie was stable and moved out of the house before getting serious with and settling down with him. To me Jamie not having a father figure in his life at all until James Tartt Sr. came back into the picture is an extremely pivotal part of his character, so it's engrained in me that it was just him and his mum for most of his childhood. I did not at all get Stepdad vibes in the sense that Simon had any part in raising Jamie. However, I do think it's nice they seem to get on well and that they have their own sort of bond now.

(Obviously this is all fully speculative, but that is what I have come up with, and it explains all the various ways Jamie has spoken about and interacted with his family in canon in the way that currently makes the most sense to me.)

So I watched the Super Mario Movie finally

(Actually I watched it on and off with some friends but wanted to wait until I saw the full thing until I said anything. Also at the time of posting it's actually been like a month and a half oops.)

This does mean that I'll be allowing posts about it (I will make sure to tag spoilers tho).

Many excitements, many concerns, all questions finally answered (for now). Of course, I have many thoughts. Sooo, dump time!

I consider the movieverse to be an AU rather than directly tying to the game universe. Yoshi's Island supports the idea of Mario and Luigi being born in the Mushroom Kingdom (or that universe, anyways) while the movie has them living in a more realistic setting.

As we expected, Jack Black as Bowser? 👌

I originally thought that there would be multiple power stars instead of just the one, and that Bowser would be going kingdom to kingdom to collect them. I feel like it wasn’t given as much importance as it probably should have gotten.

SMB Super Show theme makes a return! They’re really pulling stuff from everywhere.

Just so I don’t sound like a broken record I’ll only say it once. The role for Mario should’ve gone to Charles Martinet. Pratt wasn’t grating but it really did just sound like Just Some Guy the whole time. I get Mario is our isekai protagonist but come on.

Following up on that thought: Good fucking lord the “do you think the accents were a bit much” line pissed me off SO much. Poking fun at your franchise is one thing, but announcing the first movie for the franchise in 30 years, giving the titular character’s voice cast to a guy who sounds nothing like him for the sake of Big Name Actor instead of to his original voice actor, telling people upset at the choice to essentially shut the fuck up, and THEN proceeding to joke about the— Jesus Christ I can’t type this anymore. On to the rest of the review.

Ohhh my god the Bros.' relationship is SO good in this movie. Luigi's adoration of his bro, Mario's adoration but also embarrassment at Luigi bringing up their mom, Mario IMMEDIATELY getting ready to throw hands for Luigi's honor, their MUTUAL protectiveness towards each other, it's all just *chef's kiss*.

When they announced Spike as a character I didn't think it was going to be Foreman Spike from Wrecking Crew (good reference tho) I thought Spike was going to be this thing

As unexpected as it came to me, I actually really liked them making Mario the underdog of the family. It adds motive to Mario's eagerness to be Helpful and gives him a good reason to stay in the Mushroom Kingdom at the end. I can also see this attitude shifting to Luigi in the sequel.

Pauline cameo hell yeah.

I actually like Toad in this movie--both his voice AND his role.

I love that they made the Dry Bones so... eerie. I would've liked to see some sentience from them (at least in a later scene), but I can understand that doing so would likely take away from the eeriness.

If you wanna see Mario being a pathetic wet paper towel then you will enjoy this movie.

I have... mixed feelings about this version of Peach. On one hand, I love that she's taking a more proactive role and that we get to see her as both a ruler and protector of the Toads. On the other hand, I'm. not particularly fond of how she treats Mario in the first half. Peach as a character has been defined by amicability and kindness towards both new and familiar people from the beginning, so her initial rudeness doesn't feel very "Peach", if that makes sense. It makes sense that she'd assume Mario to be an enemy, but after that point it stops feeling in-character.

The more serious tone they gave with Bowser was also something to wrap my brain around. Over the course of the games Bowser's been gradually "declawed" as a villain, so I love that they really put emphasis on his cruelty.

I'm surprised they actually touched on Peach's origins, if only briefly.

I love Donkey Kong's portrayal in this movie. A lot of games don't give him much personality beyond "monkey lol" so I love that they took his other personality traits and expanded on those.

Cranky Kong running a kingdom wasn't the role I expected, but it is a fun take that I like.

Wrinkly Kong isn't dead lol

Diddy Kong having to be told to be quiet was a fun touch.

Funky Kong cameo improves my opinion on the movie. However he is hard to get a look at and doesn't have speaking lines, so that score must sadly be reduced a little.

One of the few allusions to Bowser and King Boo's alliance we get. King Boo didn't stick around to help during the fight, but he did make it to the wedding so that was cool.

RIP to King Bob-omb. Poor dude didn't deserve what happened to him 😔

Peaches (the song) was funny but not what it was hyped up to be.

Sequel with Yoshi hinted after the credits 👀

No Bowser Jr. or Koopalings despite everything. I'm wondering if they'll put him in the sequel.

Uhhhh I'm not sure what else I can remember, but this is long enough as it is. I had some nitpicks with it but I did like it despite my complaints.

angealseph/sephgeal-- i personally find angeal unbearable. he really annoys the fuck out of me im sorry angeal fans but he's not my man... I think that his hardheadedness/stubbornness in his idea of honour would grate on sephiroth, but the reason sephiroth likes him is because of his care otherwise. It's just not something I can see sephiroth pursuing romantically though Lol so in that vein I also don't really like AGS or any angeal ot3 😔

A random headcanon:

niche weirdest hc i have is the eyeball nipple ALSO applies to seph, he has that eyeball nipple guys.

Less insane hc is that he is a sugar fiend, desserts are his favourite food and his drinks could all be classified as syrup. also despite not being the biggest fan of citrus he really really likes yuzu! I tend to flit between him being vegetarian and not as well, mostly because he would be tripping over himself to try new things because he's excited over the prospects of new sensory stimulas that isnt, say, Pain in a new flavour

General Opinion over said character:

WAAAAUUUGH! i love this blorbo. I wish he had a chance to live and not die everything he was always going to be. It was really self fufilling and in the end he died as what Hojo wanted of him--never breaking free, dying under the abuse, becoming the abuse that made him. Fucking kills me! I want a world where he breaks the cycle, where he becomes the future. That's a reason I love the transformative aspect of fandom here, I couldn't love ff7 the way I do without all the AU's, there is just far too much here to mess with, to reshape.

Totally tangentially, but I don't agree with people speaking of him being irredeemable or deserving of punishment, these are fundamentally reductive ideas and don't even line with the politics of ff7 itself LOL Atonement and redemption does not mean everyone suddenly forgives and forgets, but it does mean everyone is afforded another chance. Everyone is deserving of that. Even people who've committed heinous acts, because foundationally they're still people. It all depends on whether or not they double down on their damage and believe in it till the end, if they're apathetic and even jubilant at their violence. If he came back uncaring, apathetic, and fundamentally unchanged from the blind bitter hate filled attitude he had before, then yes he is unredeemable because he is refusing it. But were he to acknowledge the wrongs and try to right them, try to move on and apologize then yes he could work for atonement. Sorry for the random anti-punishment rant LOL I've just been thinking abt this for a while, check out philosophytubes video on capital punishment (its on youtube!) for further challenges on this idea :D

Okay so, gonna explain why I think the toll ending is so great

Okay so with most Dystopias (at least that I’ve read and especially in bad dystopias) it usually ends with the rebel group overthrowing the government and instating a new better government, and everything is great and swell, maybe our main heros have some trauma but the world is pretty much fixed yk?

And at first you’d think scythe would be going in that direction, maybe less sunshine and rainbows but still similar. Its established that Goddard is a terrible ruler and how cruel and awful he is. And how corrupt the scythedom is in general

However then Faraday says something interesting, “there will always be another Goddard” and I absolutely love that line because its very true. No matter who gets put in power again, no matter what rules they put in place the scythedom and scythes are inherently flawed and bias because humans are flawed and bias. There will always be some other horrible person like Goddard to fuck things up.

And if that cycle keeps happening people will keep getting hurt, getting gleaned, and all that. (Which is why it doesn’t matter if Goddard dies or not because regardless there will always be someone like him just around the corner)

So what do they do? They activate the failsafe. A plague that is awful yes, but it is unbias and cannot be flawed on who it picks. And it still doesn’t destroy the essentially Utopia they have. And this is what I like the most, that the scythes who remain become a source of comfort instead of fear due to it. It cycles back to the first book where the Terranovas were terrified of Faraday, to the family who are so grateful to see him

And yes, the whole space thing is a little disappointing. I would’ve liked them to stay on earth too, but I’ve grown to like it more and here’s why

On earth Citra and Rowan weren’t themselves. They were Anastasia and Lucifer and even with the scythedom gone their reputations wouldn’t have gone away. In space (forgot the planet name so yk) they have a chance to start fresh and really be themselves the way they never got the chance too due to the scythedom essentially taking away their youths. It’s bleak yet hopeful I really like that

Things won’t be okay, there’s still heartache and pain and the world isnt fixed, but that’s okay, because there’s hope. And that’s my favorite thing about it. Each character gets hope. Maybe not a happy ending but a glance of hope. And after all the shit they went through it feels so great to see them feel that hope and think maybe things will be okay

Ngl, Morgott’s whole identity as the King of Leyndell is really funny when you think about it

Like imagine just being a rando after the Shattering and the Night’s Cavalry come in and basically just go “Uhhhh hey folks, new king! He’s a uhhhhh, “descendant” of the Queen! O-oh, you wish to see him? Well uh, that’s- that’s impossible, so. At least you guys have a King, though!”

And he earns titles such as the “Veiled Monarch” from his mysterious presence, and the one that cracks me up is “Morgott the Grace-Given”, because that man deadass just went “Hmm, I wonder how I could possibly hide my Omen heritage… I’ve GOT IT” and just called himself the Grace Given

Also one thing that’s also funny as hell is his appearance in the intro. Because he’s tackling a really fucking Young Radahn which you can tell because Radahn is shorter meaning he hasn’t even gotten his Great Rune yet. Meaning that an entirely possible scenario is that Morgott, immediately after the Shattering, somehow obtained a Great Rune(possibly by just scampering to the Erdtree right after), saw that others were invading, and basically just did one of those Giant Jumps that Omens do, unintentionally jumped 30 feet in the air like his Margit cutscene and just fuckin tackled Radahn.

One thing I love about Morgott and Mohg are their clearly differing stances on their family. Because you can imagine that they saw most of the events in the Capital from Sewer Grates growing up, and it’s possible that they caught glimpses of their family through them, seeing them in public places giving speeches, and possibly even seeing secret interactions between Marika, Godfrey, and Godwyn, and Marika, Radagon, Malenia and Miquella. And what you can gather is that Morgott essentially took all of those observations as “Oh wow! Look at how amazing they are! One day I’ll be free and be able to be with them, and perhaps even become loved by them as well” and Mohg thought “Where was this when we were literally thrown down a well? We deserved this, and yet we received a fate worse than the Omens born to commoners, as at least they either died or lived above ground, whereas we must live as Rats. No, no I will become far, FAR GREATER THAN THEM” and you can see it even in their naming, as Morgott keeps the name to stay in the Golden Lineage naming convention of “God/Gott”, whereas Mohg, seemingly out of envy, names his dynasty with the latter half being named after the Golden Child, Godwyn

The idea that Morgott’s act of love for his mother being basically just, keeping her and his father’s seat warm is honestly really cool to me. Because he legitimately gets remorseful after his cursed blood breaks the throne, because it’s not his, it’s his family’s, and you basically just caused its destruction

Morgott’s lack of horns after defeat is sad as hell to me because it basically shows that his rune were the reason they were there, meaning that he basically just shaved them off, nearly killing himself to do so. And the parallel between that and Mohg letting his horns overtake any human features is just really meaningful when it comes to Omens

The fact that those 2 were in what is essentially the nesting grounds for Outer Gods and only Mohg got into it with them really shows Morgott’s devotion to the Order.

Also btw can we talk about how the Sewers are where most Outer Gods apparently are? Because that’s where Mohg met the Formless Mother and that’s where the Frenzied Flame is, so it really just seems to me that they are just waiting for the Elden Beast to be killed in order to overtake the Erdtree and waiting right under its nose

I really wish we got a hint of how Morgott’s siblings would have interacted with him and Mohg. Because while at first you may think that they’d react like most would, the fact is they probably wouldn’t. Rykard went against everything the Order stood for, possibly including their hatred for Omens(especially since a Crucible Knight is in their service). Godwyn was willing to negotiate with literal dragons, so i imagine he would likely accept Morgott and Mohg with open arms. Radahn had a variety of people in his service, and wanted to be like Godfrey, rather than like idolizing the Order as a whole, and he’s also like, one of the most worldly in his family so he’s likely not that close minded. Idk abt Miquella, since he did make a have for all kinds of people, but there are no Omens there, so, idk if he’s a fan of em.

Also you cannot tell me that they got thrown into the sewers as babies when Godfrey interacted with Morgott like that. He definitely got at least a few days or years with em. He probably didn’t care about the Omen shit when his men used Crucible Incantations, he was probably just stoked to have some babies. So I headcanon that Marika decided to just throw them into the sewer either to avoid political strife or to avoid killing them outright and just told Godfrey they tried to remove their horns and they died in the process.

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying the most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

The Eclipse (Fri YT) Ep 3 of 15 - The splinter thing was cute. I liked that they used it to show that Aye is a capable boy, and I enjoy that quality in a character. The disciplining of the 3 queer boys plot is giving me So Much in Love vibes. I’m a little confused by the friendship between Thua and Aye, did that come out of nowhere or is it just me? 

Vice Versa (Sat on YT) Ep 7 of 12 - It’s been interesting to watch Sea come into his own with this show, since at first Jimmy takes up all the air in the proverbial cinematic room. But Sea is good, subtle. Do I feel a little manipulated by the external conflict? Yes. And I still think Jimmy‘s character’s motivation is suspect. In other news, it should not be as weird as it was to watch someone eat carbonara Thai style, but it totally fucked with my head.

21 Days Theory (Sun YT ) Ep 3 of 4 - They are all so cute. The side noona romance, even the side Cyrano romance. I’m deeply grateful they ff the singing trope for me! OMG its so ADORABLE when X&Q switch to using X and Q. Eeeee!!!!!!! Q is so nervous and pleased about it. I love this show so much. The representation of an elder gay advisor, teaching about proper communication and warning of damaging romance tropes, PLUS language play and high school? Everything about this show is in my wheelhouse. 

My Only 12% (Fri iQIYI) Ep 3 of 15 - Well if anybody can advise a lonely confused gay boy in high school, I suppose it’s Fuse Kung. This one is moving along swimmingly, it’s complex, nuanced, and very well done for essentially a simple premise from Thailand. It’s not a pulp, but it’s not high production either. In style it’s more in the vein of UWMA than anything I’ve seen out of Wabi Sabi in a LONG time. Thumbs up. 

Love Mechanics (Sun WeTV) Ep 10fin - I really loved the class conflict with these two, and what it says about the characters in their families. Honestly THIS could’ve been the plot for this whole drama. It would’ve been so much better if it had dwelled in this space of family drama, rather than the chaotic messy bi-slut cheating space. And guess that’s it. That’s the end. Sigh. In the end I went with 6/10, I compare this to My Gear and Your Gown (a classic 6/10), and find it’s about the same. Yes YinWar are great, and they were great in this, but the story was not good, and not improved by being given more time to hang itself. I like the shorter En of Love version better (yes I think they can and should be compared) and I’m was left simply hoping YinWar get more better work in the future. 

Coffee Melody (Mon Viki) Ep 6 of 10 - Pleng & Yi are good communicators (now) but this show is kind of boringly slow. Jean is a KILLER flirt. Like the best, really. Yi should have taken lessons.

Unforgotten Night (Weds on GaGa) Ep 10 of 12 - I got drunk this time in order to make it through. Good thing too, I I NEEDED to be drunk. Because they threw a random threesome and a highly worrying and unstable kink in the shower sequence at me. It’s such a terrible show. TRASH WATCH HERE! I’m gonna start moving this to Thursdays and watching back-to-back with LITA for alcohol consumption reasons. 

Love in the Air (Thurs iQIYI) Ep 2 of 13 - there was a spanking, so that’s something, I guess? DUMPSTER FIRE TRAH WATCH ALONG HERE.

And then... university.  My FairygodBLer has provided, so I’ll be reporting in on what I can get starting next week. I must rewatch WBL2 first tho. Priorities!  

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Minato’s Laundromat (Japan Weds GaGa) Ep 9 of 12 - The mystery behind Asuka and Shuu is finally explained, and as @heretherebedork​ points out, is being used as a foil for the main romance thread. Also, the director did this transition around which character is being filmed standing in doorways and on thresholds (from Shin to Minato) that was SO CLEVER I kinda lost my whole tiny mind for a while. I ended up doing an unexpectedly deep dive into this filming trick as a narrative technique on the SQUEE WATCH ALONG . And yes, I think it’s possible this came directly from the manga, the manga seems very very SMART. 

Takara-kun and Amagi-kun (Japan Thurs GaGa & Viki) 2 of 8 - I can’t believe we are getting BOTH these from Japan right now. Japan, and I say this in all seriousness, we do not deserve you. These two are so shy and awkward and cute, and it’s so high school it’s almost unbearable. But I really enjoy the way burgeoning desire works with high school characters better than in any of the other setting Japan might choose. I gnaw on my knuckles and squeal a lot with this show. The handholding is so adorable. Also Amagi is so awkwardly jerky and angular in a way that doesn’t seem overblown like it did in Kieta Hatsukoi. Clever shooting on the erotic dream sequence too. I see what you did there, Japan. Amagi’s fears are all the fears of first love (and not just queer love, anyone’s first). I really like that. Also I really love the internal dialogue that’s happening around communication. Because part of first love should be learning how to talk to each other and communicate. The way Takara communicates is so good and so important to the genre I did a whole post about it.  

Papa & Daddy 2 (Mon GaGa) Ep 4 of 8 - Taiwan handles a love triangle so differently, especially with mature characters. It’s actually kind of beautiful to watch them explore ideas around infidelity, affection, lost love, and rediscovery. Also I love the gay sibling couples sharing tips on how to manage kids and parents. 

Want to See You (Vietnam YT) Ep 13 of 14 - I definitely like it better after the time jump. But I still feel jerked around by the uke’s behavior and decisions. Golden rule of BL: he’s never asleep.

Ted Lasso for the fandom asks ❤️

the character i least understand: ooh this is a hard one!! i genuinely feel that most of the characters are so fleshed out and fascinating that i can understand them to some extent. maybe i'll have to go with james tartt sr. bc i have no interest in attempting to understand him.

interactions i enjoyed the most: soooo many!! keeley and rebecca is a perennial fave bc i see so much of my real-life friendships in theirs, and then of course jamie and roy is a genuine delight whether i choose to interpret them platonically or romantically. specific interactions i loved were ted's "be a goldfish" advice to sam, the whole team fixing sam's restaurant, any background jamie & sam moment, the jamie teaching roy to ride a bike scene, the Boot Room Breakdown, and any Team Himbo moment. also jamie and his mum (& simon!) is, probably, one of the unexpected absolute HIGHLIGHTS of season 3. give me more of them now.

the character who scares me the most: james tartt sr. i don't think this needs to be explained. rupert doesn't really scare me, but the general type of person that his character is based on, and how often those people in real life are allowed to get away with the behaviors he exhibits in the show, certainly does.

the character who is mostly like me: oh gosh! this is a tricky one. i think i have a bit of various characters in me -- i am very much like ted in that i use humor/positivity as a shield against, um. worse emotions. i also deeply relate to keeley in regards to her specific brand of agency; she's powerful yet silly and that's so important to me bc that IS me. and then sam, my beloved. i see a lot of my own general outlook on life in him, and i also get him so hard in the scenes where he doesn't handle his emotions too well and just. breaks down. soooo relatable ! (ditto for jamie's boot room breakdown).

hottest looks character: is this a contest? if so, keeley and jamie are WINNING. the competition does not even EXIST.

one thing i dislike about my fave character: jamie my love, the you of s1 will forever and always be a twat. i adore that boy but good god, his early behavior was horrible, particularly towards sam. insert lookhowfartheyvecome.png.

one thing i like about my hated character: technically my most hated character is james tartt sr. but i have nothing good to say about him so. rupert: your darth vader pinterest inspo board will always be fascinating to me.

a quote or scene that haunts me: "jesus. must've been traumatizing." "no, she loved it. oh, for me -- sorry, me, you mean. no. i don't know. i don't remember." // the wembley locker room scene // "thank you. and fuck you." // "you're not lost, my sexy little baby. you just aren't sure what direction you're going in. yet."

a death that left me indifferent: thankfully this is not that kind of show! i guess rebecca's dad's death didn't really affect me bc we didn't ever know him -- but god, rebecca herself destroyed me in that ep.

a character i wish died but didn’t: james tartt sr. i maintain that it would have been fascinating if jamie had received news his dad had died just before they played man city, kicking off his mental spiral bc do i have to plan a funeral for him? does he deserve that? do i deserve that? and essentially grappling with the fact that he isn't sure exactly what he should feel in regards to his father's death. ofc this would have ended with a rejection of the 'forgive him <3' mentality and allowed jamie to fully and truly just. let go of his dad. forever. without guilt. (@ ted lasso writers room: LET ME IN!!! LET ME INNNNN!!!!!!)

my ship that never sailed: honestly? i know this fandom is very tied to its ships, and i get that -- i was truly rooting for keeley and roy to get back together, and i can see the appeal of royjamie or royjamiekeeley. HOWEVER. i am, in the end, grateful that the show prioritized its platonic relationships over its romantic ones. for me, platonic friendships/queerplatonic relationships are never given the attention or respect they deserve and i adore them. they're so much more fascinating to me! i appreciate that the show left most of its romantic/potentially romantic relationships ambiguously defined bc it gives us, as fans, the ability to interpret the characters and their dynamics how we choose.

What was the name of the main character in the last book you read? Edward, I guess lol. I just found the copy of Midnight Sun that I totally thought I lost two years ago and have been rereading it from the start even though I know what happens.

My family is fortunate to not be affected by it (unless my parents are doing a great job pretending for our sake...? I doubt they are, though, as they are comfortably spending on leisure-y stuff now), and I am extremely grateful and aware of the privilege considering the financial difficulties we faced during the pandemic. 

But inflation is for sure felt by many others - the question of whether or not families could even afford a Noche Buena dinner this Christmas is constantly covered in the news and it makes me sad.

Help an autistic disabled transmasc move

Basically what it says on the tin. My name is Kieran and I’m moving to another state this summer. I just landed a second part-time job but the pay is pretty low and I really need more money than what I have to successfully make this move. In all honestly I’m much too disabled to be working 2 jobs, but here I am, and I’m still not sure it’ll be enough, as I can’t get good hours.

I currently need to at least double the amount of money that I have. This will insure that I have enough for a deposit, the first month’s rent, some furniture, and other living expenses while I find a job in my new location.

honestly nothing will make me distrust you faster than being anti self-dx. aside from the fact that it’s incredibly belittling and disregards how medical bigotry and neglect would prevent you from receiving a diagnosis, it also ignores the fact that diagnosis is a form of violence.

you think doctors, especially psychiatrists, diagnose patients to better help that patient and to treat them? they diagnose patients to punish them for the crime of being disabled/neurodivergent/etc. a diagnosis isn’t neutral, you don’t leave the doctor’s office the same as when you entered it. you leave with limited access to employment and housing, with a higher likelihood of being a victim of police brutality, and a much higher likelihood of experiencing medical neglect and malpractice in the future.

even if someone could get a professional diagnosis, they’re not required to do so, because to do so could be a much worse detriment than is worth any accommodations they might receive.

Not accurate....just closer than "saint-like," virtuous man of God) clueless middle aged eunuch, whose inexperience can be attributed to a level of naivete and cluelessness almost impossible to comprehend for the typical....correct chromosome count possessing reader, who does not have a difficult decision when decidong which character on Darwin's human evolutionary chart they most identify...I hesitate to make this concession....first of all because it's a concession...in THIS forum, on THIS topic nonetheless. Also, seemingly granting legitimacy to the oft-distorted, ALWAYS spiked with shameful dishonesty "revelations" about me that I must have wasted 10000 words refuting to people who either didn't consider it an issue (HOOOW!!??lol) needed no refutation in the first place, much less the detailed version I felt compelled to vomit, or were adversaries, either for personal, or situational reasons who were not open to reversing themselves, and, in fact, very often found new falsehoods to create within corrected info provided. The truth is that while every claim I made during this foray (about 14 months long, probably averaging 2-3 sometimes ridiculously long posts over 4 blogs-or 5....something like that. 6 possible too...honestly am not sure) I have never been wilfully dishonest. Made a couple of honest mistakes that were corrected to the best of my ability, and utilized my normal copious allotment of sarcasm, fesiciousness (that is a word, I think....do not have a CLUE how to spell it: Its definition would be " what people often mistake for sarcasm. Making a statement opposite universally accepted truth for effect i.e. "That Barry Manilow is one bad motherfucker.") and I certainly tiptoes around some uh....less than gentlemanly things said and done in the past, but I was very careful to avoid outright lying....and, I addressed a few things I ABSOLUTELY would have seen as a guckin' GOLDEN opportunity to alter fate in my favor with the help of a little dishonesty. I passed those up. You see kids, your integrity, for ANY positive outcome, ANY dodging of consequence, ANY dollar amount....is simply nit worth compromising a single iota. Take it from Me." Lol...just kidding...

But, I did not wish to exacerbate a, perhaps....justifiably imperfect, reputation in that area....particularly after an honest mistake earky on had reasonably light hearted (thank gid) accusation of "bullshit con artist" leveled at me from a....less than ideal source. By that, I mean the worst possible. Luckily,it worked itself out and was explained (fucking 1 or 3 months ago when it didn't fucking matter) but; I was and remain absolutely grateful (what the fuck ever) So, continuing our course on the Honesty Express, it seems our next stop is Honest Self Appraisal.....and, after adding this tool of the Saints to our new repertoire, we realize that just because we can explain aspects of our self, abilities, weaknesses, past mistakes, etc in a fashion that is both thorough AND honest....it behooves us to include certain data we deem both not accurately indicative of our true selves and easily buried in a generalized admission of ADHD diagnoses, occasional social anxiety, and having occasionally encountered the need for "anger management" assistance. Only with skilled and persistent prying would I reveal that "ADHD diagnoses" came after failing English (easily my best subject because formatting fictional short stories....which essentially meant "numbering the pages" was too difficult and I was embarassed to turn shit in because I was made fun of the first time) "social anxiety" meant COMPLETE isolation for 3 to 6 days, often in darkness, away from even family, and "anger management" could be translate into "it's nice so many of our family members are attorneys." So, I will make an admission here, in the interest of good will, self depreciation, and frankly...fairness and accuracy before I respond to the rest of this shit, uh, I mean "argumentative explanation for"....fuck. what was it for. I will double check. I was right, though. That is whatcha want to remember. After doing this, I will explain why, though she has every right to her opinion...it's....questionable (like that word? Watched the iCarly reboot so far and boy do I have thoughts about it

#I might rant about it when I'm either on break or i go home for the day #But essentially I think the new characters are really fucking grating #Especially millicent #Harper has her moments but she's not great either #Millicent has her own gimmick and it's annoying #While Harper DOESN'T have a stable characterisation and some let's say 'versions' are more grating than others #Freddie's character also went down the toilet #Spencer ranges from alright to great but it's probably only because of jerry trainor #I don't know what to make of Carly but she's not awful #That's saying a lot for me because I used to find her irritating

So I know absolutely nothing about Leverage except what I've been seeing you post lately and I have to admit you're making it look tempting to watch! Can I ask what are some of your favorite things about the show/reasons you would suggest people watch it? And is there really a poly relationship that is canon?

Okay. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. I am going to do my best not to just “asdfghkjl” at you and answer coherently.

In a nutshell, Leverage is about 5 people. 4 are criminals (Parker, Hardison, Eliot and Sophie) with different and unique skill-sets and 1 is an ex-insurance investigator (Nate) who, at one point or another in his career, has tracked down (or at least attempted to) the other 4. The whole show is essentially: man reluctantly reforms 4 criminals to use their criminal powers for good and 4 criminals move into man’s life and stubbornly refuse to leave because, goddammit, now they have morals. 

I’ve got a lot of favourite things about the show but the main ones are as follows:

1. Found family. And I’m not talking about loners who come together to fight crime and happen to co-exist to the point where they realise they happen to have found themselves a family. I mean, Nate and Sophie are the Drunk Uncle and Wine Aunt who somehow become Mom and Dad to 3 beautiful criminal children. Mom and Dad love their criminal babies and the kids love them (as well as each other, but we’ll come to that in a moment). You get amazing family moments such as: Mom and Dad packing the kids lunch before sending them out to kick corporate greed’s ass; Mom and Dad giving the kids ridiculously expensive and personal Christmas presents causing their most Grumpy Kid to go very very quiet and soft as he runs off to gleefully play with his new murder toy; the kids interrupting Mom and Dad’s big Movie Style Kiss to ask if they can please keep their new underground layer and huffing and puffing when Dad tells them no.

2. Found family: the OT3 edition. To answer your question, the OT3 is indeed canon, confirmed by the creator. Now, usually, “confirmed by the creator” infuriates me because most of the time it’s a way for a creator to be seen as “progressive” without doing anything to actually be progressive. That isn’t the case here. The OT3 are built up carefully and while it is obvious the creators didn’t originally intend for all 3 of them to become a relationship in the romantic sense, by mid-season 5 we are given a very clear picture of where Parker, Hardison and Eliot are heading in their relationship. There aren’t any kisses at the end to signal this but there are solid marriage vows in not only one but two episodes. (And by marriage vows I mean literal equivalents of marriage vows: “for better or worse” and “’til death do us part”. I’m not even exaggerating). The OT3 also doesn’t need explicit romantic narratives to convey how much they love each other. Their love is laced through the whole show, from the way they teach each other things to the way they respond to each other and work as a unit. The way they fiercely protect and admire each other. Like someone once said, if you need characters to kiss or say I love you to let the audience know they love each other, you are writing them wrong. 

Aside from that, each of the parings in the OT3 are just. Gah. They are so well done, with friendship being the solid basis for them all. The creators never expect the audience to assume anything about them or fill in the gaps. They give us their relationships on screen and reference many things off-screen to show us how these relationships continue to build in between episodes.

Hardison and Parker are a canon couple and date in the show: it’s approached slowly and they are so goddamned sweet. They are basically every fluffy slow-burn trope with a healthy dash of mutual pining in the mix. They are basically that quote “love is patient, love is kind”. (I would like to add their romance never becomes the focus of the show or overrides the importance of any other relationship they have with the other characters, especially Eliot.)

Hardison and Eliot are the Old Married Couple and from day one are already bickering and looking at each other/making comments that are found in every UST fic ever (not to mention Hardison has a very good knack for making Eliot grin like a little kid, when usually he’s basically an Angry Little Chef Man). They argue, they play, and love each other plain as day. 

Parker and Eliot are more subtle but every bit as wonderful. They have an unspoken connection and understand each other on a level no-one else can. Parker and Eliot are not good with giving themselves over to affection for different reasons (and Hardison plays a central role in helping them realise it’s okay to want it and have it- that boy has endless patience) but there is something so beautiful in the way the two of them come together on their own and develop their own special bond that works for them. Parker and Eliot are that trope where the characters don’t need to speak to understand each other perfectly. They just do. Their love language is a lot of the time non-verbal but speaks volumes. (Parker also likes to annoy the hell out of Eliot and Eliot....just.....lets...her. Because he’s soft. The softest, grumpiest boy.) 

I could go into so much depth for each pairing and their dynamics as a 3 but that's for another post.

3. Subverting stereotypes. There is the occasional hiccup in the show regarding stereotypes but ultimately, Leverage gets an A+ when it comes to writing characters and making them 3 dimensional people who are not defined by certain characteristics or events. Nate could so easily fall into the White Man Pain trope where he uses the trauma of losing his kid as a reason as to why he is entitled to act like a dick. Nate is a dick but he doesn’t use his pain to excuse it and I appreciate that. Hardison is a black man who is soft and nurturing. Easily the most empathetic and patient of the group. He’s nerdy, an actual genius, and has the biggest heart of all the characters. Nate is maybe the glue but Hardison is definitely the heart. Media’s usual aggressive, amongst other, racist stereotypes can fuck right off. Parker is canonically autistic (I am sure this was confirmed by one of the creators) and she is not defined by it. It’s not written as some kind of singular personality trait. It’s part of what makes up Parker but it’s only one facet of who she is and not once is her actions, thoughts or feelings treated like a joke. Sometimes people don’t understand why she does and says the things she does but it’s met with patience and fondness over the course of the show. Equally, it’s not met with over-caution. Parker is just Parker. No-one tries to change her. The other nice thing is Hardison, who always makes sure Parker knows she’s amazing because of who she is and not in spite of it. Finally, Sophie is in her 40s. She’s not treated like she’s past her prime. Ever. She’s sexy, smart and never is she pitted against or compared to Parker (who is younger) for anything. Sophie is amazing and there’s never even a conversation of “I may be older but I am still *insert adjective typically associated with younger women here*”. Sophie is possibly the first female character I’ve ever seen who isn’t just unapologetic about her age but has never had to apologise for her age. It’s a non-issue and that’s that. The women on the show are written so well, right down to secondary characters and it’s beyond refreshing.  

4.) It’s just fun. The show has a “monster of the week” type format. Except instead of a ghoul or a ghost, the monster is some corrupt wealthy and powerful individual or organisation. The show draws on real-life individuals to do this and therefore closely parallels real-life people and events. It addresses important political, economical, social and environmental issues while at the same time remaining fun and light-hearted. The characters constantly get the chance to play dress up and by GOD do they have fun with it. You get to watch Eliot beat up bad guys in the most delightful of ways, usually after a witty non-sequitur and with a weapon you’d never think could be a weapon. The dialogue and back and forth between the characters is everything. And finally - my favourite thing- the team can never resist striking a dramatic pose after they’ve taken down the bad guy, making sure the bad guy sees them. I mean, they COULD just walk away, satisfied they’ve taken the person down, but nope. They gotta be dramatic bitches 24/7 and pose like they are models for every single month of this year’s Criminal Calendar.  

5.) Competence Porn. So. Much. Competence Porn.  

Honestly, I could list a thousand reasons for why Leverage is amazing but to list them would to be spoiling so many amazing moments you’d get to discover for the first time on your own if you do choose to watch it. It’s the kind of show you can watch with an eagle-eye and sink your teeth into. But it’s also the kind of show if, you would prefer, put on in the background for something entertaining while you do something else. Each episode is about the job at hand but it’s made up of so many moments between the characters that show how much the creators and writers care about them. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll do whatever it is you do when something Soft and Wonderful happens that makes your heart melt. I am so beyond grateful for Leverage. It’s everything I always wanted in a show. Nearly every show I’ve watched in the past 10 years has disappointed me in some way, usually either because the writers run out of steam or characters who I love are treated poorly or given some kind of unnecessary “shock value” arc. Leverage doesn’t do that. Leverage is what it says on the bottle. Fandom isn’t something I joined because I needed canon fix-its. Fandom only enhances and celebrates an already excellent canon.

Is the 90′s anime really the best or that’s just subjective??

So a few weeks back I saw this post saying the 90′s anime is the best which is their opinion. But it got me thinking about somethings and I just wanted to write my own post just to counterargue each point they said with my opinion. So this combination of things I have said before with some new things. 

This is long as fuck... 

1. The Pacing -I'm sorry but in my opinion the 90's anime pacing is not good on the terms on plot to filler ratio. Which majority of the season is fillers to the point they have to cram in plot before the season finale. To the point it’s so much filler that it really no build up and by time you get to the pay off it’s flat because you spent so much time on monster of the day to even get to the plot.

Also they are so many Filler Gudies out saying which epsidoe is filler and which epsisode is plot.

1.Sailor Moon Classic  46 episodes -31 plot 15 filler

2.Sailor Moon R 43 Episodes - (43 Episodes – With Doom Tree Arc not as Filler :36 plot 7 filler ,With Doom Tree Arc considered as filler: 23 Plot and 20 filler )

3.Sailor Moon S 39 Episodes - 29 plot 10 filler

4.Sailor Moon SuperS 38 episodes -23 plot 15 filler

5.Sailor Moon StarS 34 episodes 25 plot  9 Filler

So in total that’s 200 Episodes =144 Plot 56 Filler (but you Count Doom tree arc as filler it’s 131 plot 69 filler )

Grated it was being animated and made the same time the manga was being written( which they also had deadlines as well) but instead becoming something could work hand and hand with the manga and give certain plotlines time to breathe that Naoko couldn't do since she was press for time, they created filler that didn't help move the plot along and the plot just stops. You can have development for your character but also keep the plot moving. Yes we made have learned something about that character but sometimes it's mention once and never mention again . ( Example in Season 4 when we found out can work on cars which is something that was never mentioned in the first three seasons and then never mentioned again). Once it was episodes dealing with the plot they crammed like a couple acts of plot into one episode.

Example

Season 1

Episode 34 is Act 6 -7 and the end of 8 and the beginning of 9

Episode 33 is the end of Act 7 and the Beginning of Act 8

Episode 35 is Act 9

Episode 36 is Act 11

Episodes 33 -36 is essentially acts 6-9  and 11 cram into four episodes.

Episode 44 is Act 10

I had to throw that with Episode 44  in how we don’t even get full Moon Kingdom backstory on how it actually fell until before the final battle.

It’s even more weirder is this 

Act 11 Reunion - Endymion  12/6/1992

Episode 36 Usagi’s Confusion: Is Tuxedo Mask Evil? 12/12/1992

Endymion Act drops on Dec 6th and the next week we got our first episode of Mamo being Evil Endymion..

But we totally skip Act 10 until the last episode before the two episode season finale like I mentioned…

I have to specially talk about Episode 34.

Putting Usagi finding out Mamo is Mask ( End of Act 6), Mamo find out Usagi is Moon ( Act 4), Mamo telling Usagi about his past ( Act 7), Mamo taking a stab for Usagi ( end of 8) and finding out Usagi is the Moon Princess ( beginning of 9) in Episode 34,

Episode 125 is Acts 34-38,

The last 6 episodes of Supers (161-166) being still the first half of Dream arc ( Acts 39-43)

Yes the manga is fast as hell since Naoko was being rushed in which Crystal/Eternal also suffers this because it's going one to one ratio with the manga. PGSM in my opinion have the best pacing because the filler and plot works hand and hand with each other. The plot doesn't go into a stand still if it's a episode that wants to explore a certain character more. The plot is still moving along with getting character development of a character.

Manga pacing being too fast to let things breathe meanwhile the 90′s anime has so many episodes worth of filler that they have to cram like so much plot in one episode.

People can say all they want when it comes to character development but when it comes to plot pacing in the 90′s anime….

The Manga is more Plot Driven which is nothing wrong with that. In which sometimes the Character Development becomes interconnected with the plot. Like if you forget this plot point you may lose some character development ( case in point the Golden Crystal being apart of Mamo’s character development) In which sometimes Yes with so much shit going on with the plot the characters do get lost in the shuffle.

Also that’s the reason the side stories are important becasue you do get that Character development and the girls have time to be silly in those stores. which should have been adapted into crystal to help with the development)

So I see it like this

The Manga- Fast paced but consistent More Plot Driven

90’s anime- Slow paced but not consistent More Character Driven

PGSM - Nice Pace Consistent A Balance of Plot and Character

Also the 90's anime becomes very repetitive to the point that you can make a list of things that will probably happen in a episodes that will probably happen in every episode unless mid season episode where some major plot is about to dropped which a sub-villain is about to be killed or redeemed or the last 5-8 episodes that make up the season finale.

Do a recap of what todays episode is going to be with usually Usagi or Luna doing the voiceover. 

The first season episodes start with Usagi introducing herself to the audience  (”Hi My name is Usagi Tuskino ”) 

Sub-villain talks the big bad about mission to find the person with the special item of that season ( rainbow crystal, energy ,pure crystal, dream mirror, star seed) The big bad tells the sub-villain not to fail the mission and in which they say they will not. They leave and may say something the Sailor Moon and Senshi keep messing up their plans. If it’s a group a sub-villains ,the other sub-villains who haven’t had a mission yet may come out and taunt the sub-villain who is currently handling the missions and tell them they could do better. The sub-villain sets Naru I mean the victims to be it’s target. The sub-villain goes out in normal clothes to look for their target. Girls are either in school, at the crown or shrine or planning do an activity, study or discussing senshi business to talk about the new enemy. Usagi is either eating, reading manga or not listening, Rei say some mean shit to Usagi, Usagi cries and call Rei mean ,Ami talks about they need to study, Mina is fangirling and scheming about a idol, Makoto says something about that guy being her senpai or about food or plants. Luna tells usagi she needs to be a better leader or do better with her study habits. Usagi and Chibiusa get into it dealing with Mamoru. *insert which Senshi is being focus on which count as “character development”* Bonus points if the victims of day interacts with that senshi and has a particular skill set of dream they want to pursue and the senshi talks to them about it. ( like want to write a book, become a artist, designer, fix a car etc.) Sub-villain disguise themselves in the activity of day( school fair, cherry blossom festival, concert, dance, park) and meets Naru I mean the victim of the day for the first time. *15 mins later* Sub-villain finds Naru I mean their victim again and attack which they pass out after the sub-villain takes what they needed ( insert Energy, Rainbow Crystal of the Seven Great Youma, Pure Heart Crystal, Dream Mirror, Star Seed) A senshi hear the scream and transforms. They do their speech’s to the sub-villain The sub-villiain laugh at them and call their youma out. Usually the sub-villain dips right here or wait until their youma is defeated to dip. Their Youma start attacking the senshi. Usagi ,Chibiusa or Usagi and Chibiusa runs with her or their heads cut off. The other senshi throw their attacks which is not effective.... Somehow Usagi about to get attack by the youma and a rose appears on screen. Mamoru comes out of nowhere ( when some episodes he is not even in them to that point)  saves Usagi ,Chibiusa and the senshi, throws a rose and say a speech. One may throw another attack to weaken the youma.

* Depending of what Senshi is being featured they maybe the one to throw the attack to show their new power and that they believe themselves for a few mins. 

* Bonus points it Mina and Makoto have to share a power up episode together because Ami and Rei already got their single episode focusing on them and because they are running out of episodes before the finale Mina/Makoto have to share. 

Mamoru or one of the senshi say “ Now Sailor Moon!” Usagi uses whatever rod she have that season with the attack sequence. The youma screams, ( may say refresh) turns to dust and dies. The sub-villain getting defeated again, say something to the Senshi ( Like” This is not the last time you see me Sailor Senshi!” and dips if they haven’t before. The Naru I mean the victim of the day gets whatever the subvillain wanted back and starts to wake up. They either see Sailor Moon or the Senshi or see whatever senshi they was interacting with in that episode. Either their senshi or civilian form. The Usagi and the girls are back in their regular wear. The senshi who is focus for that episode learns something that will forget next episode or will be never mention again. Rei says another mean thing to Usagi and everyone laughs.

End of episode.

In which an episode filler in the 90s was like watching an educational show you watch on PBS with a “lesson” you learn each episode.

Like today’s episode you are going to learn about following your dreams.

Today’s lesson you are going to learn that bullying is not nice and it can hurt people..

Today’s lesson you are going to learn about following your heart to love.

Today’s lesson you are going to learn about teamwork and the power of friendship.

Today’s lesson you are going to learn to be considerate of other people feelings, learning to admit you are wrong and apologized.

Today’s lesson you learn about heartbreak and how you friends tell you that the boy you love have his reasons to break up with you and you should still trust him………

Which the next week they forget about that lesson and continue with the same shit they did before that lesson.. Until that lesson is taught again in the next season.

Which makes DiCs inclusion of “Sailor Says” at the end even more iconic since it was on during the wave of Barney… Cause they really did make it educational.

The 90′s anime is more “Character” driven but totally forgets the plot until the last min. The plot gets lost for the the characters but sometimes like I said you need the plot to help farther along the characters.

Like there is nothing wrong with filler if it is used right. Filler can be a wonderful tool to expand certain things like a character or a certain plot more even more.

Like it’s nothing wrong with learning about your characters more if it is used right.

PGSM like I said before did this right and I’m going to use episodes 32- 36 because I think it’s a great example of how PGSM worked.( spoilers) 

In 32 you have Mamo coming back which they get together which is pretty huge in the story.

Then you have episodes 33-34 which are kind of filler episodes dealing with Ami and Rei. It’s gives you a moment to breathe ( but not to long) and have major feels about these girls dealing with their parents and making their bond stronger. 

Then episode 35 is where the action starts raves back up with Mio and her shit ,Zoi and Mina teams up and that Usa/Mamo plus Mina vs. Jade/Kun fight at the end. 

Then when you get to episode 36 all hell breaks loose gangster style. I totally forgot that it was also the episode they Mina told Rei about her illness. 

So 32 you are up the hill then 33-34 you are down for a brief min then you are going back up the hill on 35 and you back on the peak of the hill in 36.

If anyone haven’t watched PGSM please do! It does a lot that the Manga didn’t have a time to do and the 90′s anime failed to do. 

That’s why I’m hard on the 90′s anime. The 90′s anime could been an prefect tool to expand certain things that Naoko couldn’t get to if they worked hand and hand like I said earlier.

Example

She didn’t get a chance to fully talk more about the Moon Kingdom like she did in act 10 so the 90′s anime could spend like two or three episodes talking about the Moon Kingdoms more.

A great example of a balance between Plot and Character is PGSM.

Plot and Character was both present in PGSM which makes it arguably the best version of SM to me.

They work in tandem with each other which is important.

A episode may have been a filler/Character driven episode but you still get some plot.

The plot just don’t stop because you want to focus on this character more in which the 90′s anime did that a lot.

It keep going.

You can structure filler in many ways:

If it’s structure really well it can enhance the story not dragging it down which to me some of the filler in the 90’s anime did.

I’m going to take season one as my example.

8 episodes between 1st and 2nd senshi awakens ( Usagi and Ami)

1 episode between 2nd and 3rd senshi  awakens ( Ami and Rei)

14 episodes between 3rd and 4th senshi awakens ( Rei and Makoto) 

8 episodes between 4th and 5th senshi “awakens” ( since Mina was technically the first one  to awaken)

12 episodes of them being a short of a full team but that’s when all hell is finally breaking loose.

The gap between Rei and Mako is to big to me.

Mina gets shafted big time.

I feel like it should have been at least five episodes between each senshi. That way you still have them developing individuality but then you have more time with them being a full team. That’s why I’m glad in the manga the gap is smaller because once you get the girls together they can develop as a team and individuality.

2. The art being darker and edgier-This is up for debate but compare to the manga..

yeah not going to spend to much time on this one cause it's to each own.

But Crystal do have some very pretty shots when they are on it.

3.Charcter Development - How many times have I talked about this?

Character Development is not just learning about that character and what makes that character tick  but does that character grow and learn certain things about themselves.

To me it’s like

This Character Started at one point in the beginning of the show.

Is that person at the same point or the experiences that had during the course of the show changed them and they are at a different point?

If a character is at that same point and doing the same things they did at the start of the show that’s not character development.

I use this definition to defined what Character Development is

Character development describes both how characters grow and change over the course of the novel and the approaches to how the author makes this happen. In other words, the term describes both the conscious effort of the writer and the effect that effort has on the novel or story.

So to me Character Development and Character Growth works hand and hand.

Some people see it as two different things like this

Character development is the process of revealing information about a character to the audience through the story. It’s not “development” in terms of change over time, but rather “development” in terms of defining who that character is.

Character growth refers to the characters within a story changing over time as a result of the experiences they have. When their values, interests, allegiances, or personalities shift from one part of a story to the next, particularly when information that we would have taken for granted as part of character development is changed right before the audience’s eyes, that’s an instance of

But I see it as

Character Development is your foundation aka your concrete slab. You need that in order to built your house

Character Growth is your frame. You built that up after you get your foundation.

You need both in order to build a house.

I can know person dream and fave colors all day but that don’t mean anything if they don’t grow towards that goal.

That it’s one episode where they learn a lesson and then the next it was forgotten.

What do they do when they face adversity? Do they learn from that experience and grow into a better person?

Can you really put that towards the 90′s anime?

Because yes you know about these characters but does the characters grow?

Yeah Sure We learned that Rei wants to be an idol, can sing and write songs, wants to get married ,can ski, when she was a child she had firebird necklace, and  cares about others even tho she doesn’t show it but still say some mean shit to Usagi and becomes the hothead bitch.

Yeah We learned that Ami can write songs, play chess, fix cars, wants to be a doctor and is a genius but still didn’t fully break out her shy shell and becomes just the smart one.

Sure We learned about Mako loves to cook, sew, grow plants, and is a hopeless romantic w but she till thinks every dude that pass by looks like her ex-boyfriend and just becomes the muscle of the group.

We learned that Mina wants to be an idol, play volleyball, and starts off being the vet of the group with the most experience and the most on her shoulders but she still is an opportunist and is a groupie of the group.

We learned that Usagi is a crybaby, likes to eat, cook, read manga and draw manga ,wears her heart on her sleeve, but she still never grow out of her jealousy, insecurities, childness and the fact she never grew into the role of Sailor Moon.

Also you can’t have your character slide backwards and be actually worse than they were when they started.

Beginning of the Series

Rei- A aloof girl who people thinks is crazy because she got physic powers but just lonely. Is mean towards Usagi and a little boy crazy. ( helpful)

Ami- Being so in tuned with her studies that shes’ not in tuned with the world but feels lonely and wants friends. ( helpful)

Mako- Love baking, other girly things while being so strong and almost tomboy like that people are afraid of her. (Thinking that one dude she come across looks like her old boyfriend.) ( helpful)

Mina- A good leader and friend but also a opportunist cause she wants to become famous even tho she already is.( helpful)

Usagi- Lazy, crybaby,clumsy, and have low esteem but with a good heart and protect the world by never giving up and destroying villains. Goes from doesn’t want to fight but wants to fight in order to protect her family, friends and the world. ( learning how to pull her weight)

End of the Series

Rei- A total bitch towards Usagi that sometimes have her moments where she try to be a good friend where the plots permits it, boy crazy and a opportunist. ( Useless)

Ami- Being so in tuned with her studies  while acting like she while saying some very cruel remarks towards Usagi about her studies habits and thinking she’s not pure when Seiya comes over to her house. . ( Useless)

Mako- Thinking every dude she come across looks like her old boyfriend. ( Useless)

Mina-  A groupie who will do anything to become famous. Even make sure the tabloids have her hooking up with all 3 starlights. dumb blonde #2 ( Useless)

Usagi- Lazy, crybaby, jealous, clumsy, childish,obsessive over her boyfriend and have low esteem who thinks she still not good enough for her boyfriend , future daughter, or friends.. Goes from wanting to fight to giving villains magical redos which they don’t deserve cause they try to destroy the world and her. ( Only person in a group project who does the work)

You got to have growth.

You got to change your character.

You can not have your character stay in a box for a whole series and in this case 200 episodes.

Also with the 90’s anime, I notice that a lot of the girls backstory that was actually in the Manga that actually does constitutes as character development for them is actually not in the 90’s anime.

They never talked about Rei estrangement with her father which is the reason why she lives with her grandfather since her mom died that was talked about in Casablanca Memory. Also the fact that she is also good in archery.

They never talked about Mako losing her parents in a plane cash which the reason why she doesn’t like the sound of planes taking off which was talked about in The Melancholy of Makoto. Also the fact that she does taking care of plants that was bought up in Infinity arc.

Yes they do talk about Ami parents divorce but the only becasue they adapt Ami first love which is the only short story they adapted. But they didn’t fully talk about the extent that divorce does to her cause she barely sees her dad since she live with her mom.

Mina has a whole 16 act two volume manga about her in which they freaking changed her backstory even dealing with her Sailor V days and how she really don’t get along with her mom as well. In which the 90's anime completely changed her backstory dealing with her Sailor V days. Granted the Sailor V Manga wasn't finish until after Sailor Moon Manga but this could have been change to have Naoko on broad and give some ideas that was was working on for the manga and put them into the anime.

Also the fact in the 90's anime the only girl we knew their birthday was Usagi which had a two part episode meanwhile in the manga we knew all the girls birthdays and they were mentioned.

Rei's was celebrated twice Usagi and Chibiusa was celebrated and Mako/Mina was celebrated as well in the manga.

Rei's was the only one mentioned in Crystal/Eternal since they haven't done the short stories.

That is also apart of character development which the 90's anime didn't include at all.

Also with Usagi the manga and Crystal does states that she will enter the manga club when she in high school and also she does make a bento box for Mamo when he is sick in Infinity arc. It's a subtle way to show that she draws and can cook.

The 90’s anime just let Usagi stayed that way but never grow. You have 200 episodes and the characters is still the same? Also have the same ideology which still had her friends being killed left and right. Her friends still died even if she didn’t want to fight and didn’t want them to die. They still died. She didn’t want to fight in episode 1 and she still didn’t want to fight in episode 200.

Different variations but pretty much the same thing.

I understand wanting to avoid conflict but sometimes you can’t avoid it and do what you can to save the people you love and the planet..

Especially if it’s for the greater good.

The 90's anime had enough time ( which each season being 30 to 40 episodes) to  really explore subjects like Usa’s insecurity, jealousy, PTSD, her fears about being alone, her fears about losing her friends and family, her fear of losing Mamoru, her not truly want the mantle of being Sailor Moon and just want to be a normal girl etc. Which she realized and understand these things about herself and the series goes start to mature from these experiences into a better person.

That didn’t happen until the last season but barely .

Like It would be perfectly ok to watch a 200 episode series that each season built on from each season in the terms of Usagi dealing with those things I listed above and by the end of the series she completely matures as a person. Not almost the same shit almost every singe episode and season.

The op may say the only thing Manga/Crystal was good at was being Sailor Moon( which is not true) meanwhile in the 90's anime she never grew into being Sailor Moon...

Usagi Tsukino in every version of Sailor Moon starts out not knowing what she’s doing when she becomes SM which is ok and it’s relatable to the max.

A 14 year old girl finds a cat with a crescent mark who magically talks, gives her magical broach, tell her that she’s a solider, must fight this enemy and look for this princess?

Totally understandable for her to be like “I don’t know what I’m doing! I need help. I just want to go the fuck home!” in which Mamoru and then as the other Senshi awakens come to help her and tell her what she needs to do. The problem is having her like that for almost 200 episodes.

She never grow into the mantle of being Sailor Moon.

It’s a difference being like that for like the first two seasons and making progress to know what you doing to which the end of the Series you know exactly what you are knowing than to be told for the majority of 200 episodes what to do and then somehow  knowing what to do in the season finale episodes.

Which some people are perfect ok with that but get upset that Manga/Crystal Usagi knows what the she’s doing by the end of 2nd season which the next 3 seasons is just adding on. To the point last season she exceeds everyone and the the only one who can save the whole damn Universe.

They are more skilled than her and help her grow into her role.

As the Manga, Crystal/Eternal, and PGSM progresses, she’s becomes to really grow into the mantle of Sailor Moon and knowing what she needs to do. In Infinity arc, it’s just a profound but bittersweet moment for a 15 year old girl who is happy with her friends and boyfriend to be like “ Welp I know my happiness is not going to last long because something is always coming but this what I have to endure because it’s my mission. I have to protect this planet and the people who lives in it. I will take whatever happiness I can get and face whatever comes my way even if I suffer for it. This what my life is so I accept it”

Manga/Crystal Usagi wants to be a Normal girl but not ONCE wants to give up the mantle of being Sailor Moon. She understands that in order to protect the people she loves and the planet that she loves, this is her responsibly but she still want to do Normal things as much as she can.

She accepts that she will never have the normal teenage life that other teenagers will but she will make damn sure she will take whatever happiness she can get and hold on to it. Also the fact she have her fellow senshi who also will never have

I mean this girl knew she was a princess in her past life and a Queen with a Kingdom, Marries her current boyfriend who was past lover in her past life  with a Kid in her future.

Her life will never be normal but she accepts it but it doesn’t mean she’s not going to have a grip some kind of normalcy to it. Which she does to the best to her ability but she’s doesn’t slack off with her responsibly being a senshi cause she knows the whole world depends on her and friends to defend it.

She accepts she is Sailor Moon which is character development.

She raises to the challenge ,matures and becomes the powerful and sought after Senshi there is..

90′s Usagi never made it that far cause she as still struggling to be a normal teenager.

She still stuck on trying to be normal, never learn to balance it out and actually fully accepts the mantle.

The last half of first season was her keep saying over and over again that she wants to be normal.

She gets her wish after defeating Beryl which everyone losing their memoires.

Luna had to give her memoires back in which the mantle of Sailor Moon was thrusted back on her. She cries at the end , says goodbye to normal life and that’s forgotten..

But it just weird because her wish took their choice to being a senshi or not away from them but now you want them back because you don’t want to be the only one. Yes the wish may have brought everyone back to life but it literary took everyone choice away from them. Like she could have been a normal teenager meanwhile the others could have still have their memories ( if they wanted) and watch after her.

Hell Mamo didn’t get a choice because he loses his Memories again. Which also weird again how Usagi wanted be normal girl , not carry the memories  and responsibilities but trying to pull Mamo memoires out of him. Mamo’s own self conscious buck against the Usagi’s wish with Moonlight Knight . MK was pretty much Mamoru self conscious that still wanted to protect Sailor Moon with all his memories intact. That should tell you something.

Almost like passing the buck to them cause you still don’t want to be Sailor Moon. Now this would be ok if only the fact if the other seasons she finally grows into taking the mantle of Sailor Moon and accepts the responsibly but even in the next three seasons it still feels like she don’t want to be Sailor Moon.

She does say this in episode 51 when she loses her transformation.

Usagi: My transformation is gone

Luna: Usagi you came back as a solider but still

Usagi: I know, I still wish I could be a regular girl in junior high.

Luna: You won't be able to use Moon Tiara action or your transformation.

So in a sense the Sliver Crystal knows in her heart that she fully don’t want to be Sailor Moon even tho she want to save her friends. ( which makes sense why 90′s Usagi is really not as Strong with the Silver Crystal compare to her other versions. Also the fact the writers FORGOT about it as the series went.)

It’s like she got the transformation broach from Queen Serenity because her strong sense to save her friends but it still wasn’t a moment for her to be like “ Ok I want to have a normal life but I am Sailor Moon. I have to some way make both work.”

So you don’t really fix the problem of her not wanting to be Sailor Moon at all. It still was not growth for her to realize that even tho she wants to be a normal teenager girl she can’t fully have that wish but that doesn’t mean she can’t find a way to have some sense of normalcy.

Nope They just gave her a new compact and call it a day.

Like I said earlier this would be ok if other seasons she finally fully embrace it because it would been Character Development and Growth. Even in StarS it still felt like she was bucking against it.

Like 200 hundred episodes and still not accepting the mantle of Sailor Moon?

I’m going to say this one thing tho ,Yes I do feel like the wish was selfish BUT due to the fact that you can tell she had PTSD it’s understandable. That’s all I’m going to say on that.

It’s kind of ironic how the op say that only thing Crystal/Manga Usagi was good at being Sailor Moon but at the same token the 90's anime put a lot of stock in her being SM as a way for when romantic rivals found out she's Sailor Moon, they back off trying to shoot their shot with Mamoru then her just being Usagi Tsukino.

This happens twice in Sailor Moon SuperS.

Both Saori and FishEye backed up on trying to shoot their shot with Mamo once they realized Usagi is Sailor Moon.

Both of them was like “ Oh I see the reason why he with her because she’s Sailor Moon.”

To me this is worse than the fandom thinking the only reasons why he with her is because they are past lovers in SliMil.

They think he’s only with her cause he knows she’s Sailor Moon and nothing else.

The 90's anime is putting more merit and stock in her being Sailor Moon aka the superhero than her being Usagi aka normal teenage girl who does have hobbies like the op mentioned.

It’s almost like Usagi doesn’t have any value being the normal teenager who does act WAY childish at times but then she does has value when they find out she’s the senshi of justice.

They was all thinking that “How could he possibly see anything in this childish girl and she’s no where in my league ” to be like “ Damn She’s out of my league. I can’t touch her. No Wonder he’s with her”

But it’s not based on the merits of being Usagi Tsukino but Sailor Moon.

Her just being Usagi Tsukino has no weight to them at all and the writers.

To me that’s a huge problem and is an imbalance of power that is very present in the 90's anime. …

Her position as being Sailor Moon has more power than her being just Usagi Tsukino in the Magical Side (Fisheye) and the Civilian/Society side.( Saori)

Let’s put it like this

In the manga and crystal yes, Naoko does make it apparent that the inner senshi are the background singers who do get a solo song from time to time while Usagi is the main star. But they are still present and is there for battle.

It’s like Destiny Child where you knew Beyonce was the star but Kelly and Michelle was there, had their chance in the spotlight, helped in the writing process and the voices to prove it. They were a group that had each other backs.  ( PGSM does fix this big time!)

In the 90′s anime it makes makes you think the inner senshi has multiple solos but as the seasons goes around you realized that Usagi is doing all the solos, the back up tracks, wrote, and produced the songs, the promos for the album and the senshi just there to the point they just get photoshoped in for a photo shoot for the cover.

Aka the Pussy Cat Dolls where Nicole was singing solo and back up tracks and the other ones was just there..

4. Villain Redemption

With one Villain who get like 20 plus episodes, with another only get one or two and then all of a sudden get a redemption in a matter of five seconds which have no weight to it and never been seen again to help out Usagi and the senshi? Who really don’t get any character development because the redemption happen so fast that really doesn’t give them time to actually think what they was doing was wrong? Or doesn’t even explain what their dreams are which would be considered character development? or get a sob story after almost killing everyone TWICE without ever thinking about the consequences of their actions and get a redo? That every major villain besides Beryl and the Doom phantom gets a damn redo??

The 90′s anime writers made redemption (not redemption arcs) into a novelty. It made it something that was given freely and not earned since they didn’t put in the work for that character to get it. It becomes a easy fix to a problem instead of just killing that villain. It become like Oprah giving free cars but to certain people.

“You get redeemed! You get redeemed! Naw! You don’t get one. You get redeemed!”

But just lacked the substance to make it feel real.

Because who doesn’t love good redemption arc?

You know when a villain realizes what they and their bosses is doing is wrong and is slowly but surely changing their ways and by the end of it helping the hero out.

Who doesn’t love that when it’s done right?

You get to know the character backstory, what make their character tick, get to see them look at their own actions, to feel remorseful about them and make decisions from themselves.( aka what they sort of did with Fisheye and the amazon trio but it happen like in two episodes which their last episodes. Even then it was still more of a selfish reason aka to stay human then actually realized what they done was wrong. Also even then FishEye pretty much did all the leg work meanwhile the other two really did nothing. )

You get to see them grow as character just like you see the hero does.

I'm going to say this loud and clear.

This is not a double standard at all and it all comes from knowing backstory.

With the Shitennou thanks to the manga and crystal we know that they were Enydion guardians who where brainwashed by Metallia and Beryl.

We know that they were good in the beginning and not evil..

Thanks to Crystal they were trying to break the brainwashing but Beryl brainwashed them more in which Senshi in act 12 finally broke it.. ( not talking about the rest of 12 becasue that episode is still a clusterfuck but I digress)

So we know they were doing things of their free will.

That's a difference between the Ayahashi sisters and the Shittennou

Also the same thing applies to the Amazoness Quartet as it does with the Shittennou because in the manga and Eternal/Crystal they was good in the begging anyway. They supposed to be awaken and become Chibiusa gradians but Nehellenia found them woke them up and use them for her bidding. ( In the 90's anime she found them in the jungle and pretty much did the same thing and at the end they redeemed themselves by helping Chibiusa out.)

So in a sense you really can't call Shittennou and Amazon Quartet a redemption but them thanks the Senshi returning to what they originally supposed to be which is good but evil got ahold of them to make them evil.

It's a difference of that with them being brainwashed than being kind of swayed by darkness and realized what evil they was doing for the villain was wrong.

Their agency to realized what is right and wrong was taken away from them.

The Ayakashi sisters are originally ruthless terrorist who kill people not misguided young ladies in which Koan was in love with a dude who didn't give two shits about them ( in which she almost blew herself up with the bomb he gave her) in which the Senshi help them out and then they open up a make up shop which they were never heard from again.

In the words of blackmanta who really put this in perceptive.

"Koan MURDERED A MAN on SCREEN. An innocent person was *Murdered* and you want to do what? Reward that?

In the original Manga, she murdered a Little Girl.

But, you know, Gotta make her sympathetic like the 90′s anime because we can’t have villains being unapologetically Villains.

Not everyone deserves to be fleshed out

Not everyone *needs* to be fleshed out just because *you* like a rendition of their character. Especially not two-bit minor minions in the grand scheme of things.

I don’t hear anyone crying for the Witches 5 to get character development.

I don’t hear anyone going on about how terrible Crystal is for not giving the Witches 5 development."

But I’m not going to begrudge Crystal for killing them off instead, because it doesn’t have an obligation to stick to the original anime."

In the manga we are presented with the A sisters being ruthless and who enjoys cause devastation in which some villain like to do.

Blow up shit and cause hell.

Not every villain have to be this trouble soul who needs to figure out their error of their ways and become a better person for the greater good. 

A villain can be just be a villain  doing villain things and try to fuck up shit for our heroes. 

You can have simple villain and you can have complex villain

We are not presented with the idea of them being swayed by Doom Phantom and realizing what they was doing in which the 90's anime did but but it happen so quickly that doesn't have any meat to feel full. Just something put together at the last min.

We are presented that they very much know what they are doing and enjoy doing it for the hell of it which is also not nothing wrong with that at all. 

And that's other thing

Everyone goes on and on about the A sisters redemption which happens in like three episodes ( Episodes 70 to 72 which one for each sister but two had to share which was episode 72 which was Calaveras and Petz( someone always have to share.. ) but don't saying anything about the with the Witches Five who literary killed each other and fighting over the attention of Tomoe in the 90's anime meanwhile in Manga/Crystal where created to be vessels be the prefect alien/human hybrid which they just competing to a Magus.

No one calls for their redemption at all.

But everyone calls for the redemption of the A sisters and Amazon Trio..

Moving on

The villains in the manga if they wasn’t the big bad acted like the monster of the day.

Naoko didn’t have time to make all those villains question their moral judgement. She barely had time for her own heroes to question their moral judgement.

They were in one act in which either Usagi or the senshi (inner or outer) kills them and we on to the big bad. Get rid of them and on to the bigger fish which they need their energy for.

I didn’t mind the manga or crystal them having one episode because all them got one episode which was equal. 

In the 90s anime, those villains become the sub villains meanwhile they had their own villains which became the monster of day. While yes it was cool that the sub villains did get more time and “fleshed out “ but it wasn’t equal at all.

If you really look at each season for each sub villain group it be only like 2 to 3 of the group that gets the most screen time and episodes. 

This is pretty much episodes where they are the main focus and not episodes if they were in. Since from villains have some overlap where they interact with the main subvillain that is focus before they become the focus.

Then you have the monster of day besides a handful few really didn’t have character since they was there for one episode to cause hell and then Usagi kills them.

In which yes some of them ( A sisters, Amazon Trio and Quartet, and even Nehprite) did question their moral judgment but it was still half assed cause it happened of a course of one episode or two episodes.

You didn’t have like a good couple consecutive episodes where the villain started to realized what they was doing was wrong. It probably be like two episodes at most where they realized it and the next episode they are getting redeemed. Yeah they make you feel for the character but it’s not enough time to me to make it feel like an arc. A journey that character goes though along with the hero. It almost feel like insta-love. You know how two people just met in a story and five seconds later they are saying I love you even tho they barely know each other name and fave color? That’s how a redemption is the 90′s anime feel. It’s a insta-redemption but not an arc. It happens quick as hell and it’s given freely but not earned. You don’t feel like the character is remorseful for what they have done and want to correct it. It just feel all of sudden cause the writers just though about it.

There’s one redemption that I want to focus on to prove my point.

Nehellenia

This is most serious cases are insta-redemption to me.I know some people would say it’s not really a redemption but the fact she got a do-over it’s a redemption to me and going to treat it as such. She got a second chance which to me she didn’t deserve it.

Just look what she did in SuperS and Stars.

Tries to take over earth twice. First by her circus and then by the mirrors as her revenge.

Tries to kill Chibiusa twice. The first time throwing her unconscious body off her floating circus into the Tokyo skyline. ( Like seriously for that offense alone she didn’t deserve to get one) The second time by trying to wipe her out of existence by putting a spell on Mamo via mirror.

Tries to kill the senshi multiple times.

Tries to kill Usagi multiple times and freaking struggle her. cause her eyes shows some sympathy for her.

Tries to kill Mamoru first by making the earth sick which made him sick since he connected to it and then by turning him into a puppet via mirror.

She does all this shit in a matter of two arcs and what she gets instead of getting killed?

A freaking do over. A chance to turn back into a kid and do things differently from her kingdom…

Yes she told a sob story about being alone but it didn’t warrant a “redemption” to me. I didn’t feel that she realized what she did was wrong and was sorry for doing it. It honestly more of Usagi feeling pity for her and instead of killing her give her a do-over. It didn’t feel real at all since we didn’t even get a chance to know her or see her question her actions. She was always blood thirsty so her getting a second chance wasn’t wanted. I just feel like the writers wrote themselves into a hole and this how they got themselves out.

What make these insta-redemption frustrating in the 90′s anime is the fact is they had plenty of episodes where they could have made them into redemption arcs compared to the manga where Naoko was like “ Fuck It! I don’t have time to redeem a villain cause I barely got time give my core characters development” The manga is very black and white when it comes to villains compared to the 90′s anime where they can be black and white or morally grey at best.( Cough Sapphire Cough) They had time to make a good redemption arc on a particular character by they didn’t do it. So we are stuck with these insta-redemption that don’t make a lick of sense cause the person didn’t earn them. .

I have to talk about the OP line real quick.

" In Crystal, the heroines will kill a person without a second thought which I am shocked that no one brings up how repetitive and contradictory that is. The pretty warrior of love and justice should by all means protect the Earth, but doing so by killing off the bad guy all time is not love or justice."

I'm sorry but it not contradictory to being a warrior of Love and Justice when a person comes to your damn planet with ill intentions to try to take over the planet and trying to hurt the people you love and trying to protect.

You can't all sit by a camp fire and sing kumbaya and all your problems will be solved.

You do what you have to do in order to protect what and who matters.

It is not contradictory because Usagi does what she have to do to protect the planet and people that she loves from outside threats who want to cause harm.

Especially the fact the A sisters in the Manga and Crystal who was pretty much kidnapping her friends one by one and causing hell for her.

Which they were also killing people without a second thought.

5.Knowing Mamoru better.

Mamoru is just literary his backstory and nothing else in the 90’s anime which they honestly kept him complacent.

He never really had any episodes they was really focusing on him and learning about him thought his lens like we got the girls.

The closest was got to that is during the Rainbow Crystal arc, Break Up arc, R Movie and after that nothing.

He becomes a solid character in S and SuperS which supports Usagi, Chibisusa and the girls but doesn’t grow.  Just become the human tug of war rope between Usagi and Chibusa Like he was really good in SuperS but the fact that he really didn’t get his character development and the Golden Crystal..

Yes the things we did learn from him like him being college student, owning his own apartment, car, and motorcycle and not like vegetables or shots but not in his perceptive per se. Like we didn't found out he was a college student or even his name until episode 15 which Motoki introduced him as one of friends from college.

In which they had to age him up  instead of just having him as a high schooler which he supposed to be. 

It was always someone else telling us this information about him and not him tell this information about himself.

The only information he really told about himself was dealing with his parents and him not liking shots which he told Ami.

It is bad enough in the 90's anime that we don't even know when his birthday was which like I said before would be considered as character development as well.

In which in the Manga we do found out thanks to Usagi 

Since the 90′s anime really diminished his role in the final battles a lot 

Classic/Dark Kingdom

90’s Anime- Get’s Kidnapped, Brainwashed, tried to kill Usagi in which Usagi cleans him but gets killed by Beryl while saving Usagi. Dies in her arms. Doesn’t help in the final battle.

Manga/Crystal- Gets Kidnap and Brainwashed to thinking he’s Endymion (per se) but after it was the reveal the the shitennou stones saved him form Usagi stab,he was right behind her giving her his strength and support as she defeat Metallia. He also told how how to defeat Metallia thanks to the shitnnou. Happens in Crystal too.

Black Moon

90’s Anime- Actively participates in the battle along Sensh to give his energy to Usa and Chibs. (In R movie but he was Kidnapped after Fiore tried to stab Usagi and took the blow for her but was there and chance into Endymion when she was trying to slow the asteroid down.. ) ( Only battle he was in)

Manga/Crystal- Falls into the Death Phantom’s lair along with the Senshi.She wakes ups in his arms after they were separated from the senshi. Tells Usagi that she needs to believe in herself and he give his strength to help her defeat Dead Phantom along with Chibiusa which he is by her side in Battle.

This was added in Crystal but when they were attacking Doom Phantom he was right behind her giving his strength to her.  

S/Infinity

90′s anime- Gives his energy to keep Chibiusa alive once her pure heart was stolen to awaken Mistress 9. ( aka life support)  (not in the final battle)

Manga/Crystal - Gives his energy to keep but after Chibiusa get her pure heart back thanks to Saturn which awakes, he goes into the battle along with Chiubsa to help out Usagi and the senshi. ( Still uses La Bomber)

SuperS/Dream

90’s Anime- Becomes very sick due the fact the Earth and Elsyion(which is protect by the earth)  is being attack thanks the Dead Moon circus.(not in the final battle)

Manga/Crystal/Eternal- Becomes very sick due to his connection with the Earth and Elysion  but Usa get sick with him as well ..It is reveal that he’s the holder of the Golden Crystal which is the equivalent of the Sliver Crystal in which they have to break the seal . He release the power of the Golden Crystal to help Usagi and the Senshi in Eternal Forms to defeat Zirconia and Nehellenia.  Turns into King Endymion along with Usag turning into NQS to cleanse Earth and Elysion.

Stars

90’s Anime- A floating star seed after Galaxia kills him on the airplane when he was leaving for America.

Manga/Crystal/Eternal- Galaxia kills him and take his star seed first at the airport which Usa sees but blocks it out. Galaxia reanimate his corpse to taunt Usa with.

In the manga he has an active role in the final battle AFTER  he either kidnapped or out of commission for a while with the only one he’s not in is Stars Arc because he and the girls are died. Meanwhile in the 90′s anime he’s only active in R Season as a whole. Which R movie is the only one he’s playing an active role after his kidnapping.

Meanwhile in the 90’s anime he just becomes an liability instead of an asset that he was in the manga.

In which you never have him question his purpose of him wanting to do more for Usagi but just have him in this box.

It was like he was ok being a dude in distress. Like it he doesn’t have this sense of wanting to do more and want to be more helpful to her. He just ok where he is at which to be is not realistic.

Like he was just ok throwing roses, saying speeches, having a cane to fight for a second, and then get hurt, almost killed or kidnapped.

While she was getting stronger he just stayed the same and he was fine with that.

Meanwhile Naoko making him question is he bring Usagi down, does he have the power to protect her in which he had a talk with the Shintenou about that. Like he always felt like he wasn’t good enough to protect even tho she always tell him that he gives her strength and she knows that she can depend on him.

Chibiusa was getting stronger he start to feel like he wasn’t needed. Since he always struggled with that since Black Moon arc. Actually since Dark Kingdom when he said he couldn’t protect her. I mean he said in Infinity that he felt like he was giving Chibiusa away on her wedding day. He felt like she has grown so much as a senshi and young girl that she didn’t need his protection anymore. He had to resistant himself from going to comfort her aka hug her when Hotaru died. He knew she had a job to do which help Usagi and he told her to do it.

Mamoru in the manga and crystal was an actual character who have doubts and fears in which the character helped him grow out of it and start to grow into himself and power along with Uasgi and not on objectified eye candy that the 90′s anime male writers made him as the series went. Who you only learn things about from other people and not directly from him but a bunch of times.

In which you found what his Dream was which was t0 protect the Earth along with Usagi in which they become equals.  

So I really don’t have a conclusion to this because it was so long. Lol 

Just wanted to give my thoughts.

Your relationship with your husband, Jensen was something. 

You two have known each other since you were kids. He was pretty much your best friend. You two played together when you were kids and knew that you two would be close forever.  

When you were 9 years old, you declared each other as boyfriends without really knowing what that meant because you both were two innocent children. 

But as it turns out, you both were still boyfriends now that you weren't the innocent child you used to be. 

As years passed, you both loved each other more than you did before. Hugs that you both gave each other when you were children turned into a pretty heated make out session that was behind closed doors. 

When Jensen first told you how he wanted to become an actor, you supported him like you always did. 

"I will never abandon you." Was what you had told him that night. 

If only you knew everything that would happen with him becoming a world famous actor. 

Hollywood wasn't the most acceptable place for LGBTQ people, so you both kept your relationship a secret, but there comes a price to pay when hiding something sometimes. 

With each passing year, Jensen almost always became unavailable to you. You barely spent any time with him anymore. 

Hell, you two only spent a minimum of two months together last year. 

You were very frustrated, especially with that woman being Jensen's beard. 

Now, you didn't have anything against her. You actually liked her, but she took a lot of time that you and Jensen were supposed to be spending together by pretending they were in a relationship. 

And honestly, sometimes you felt that you weren't Jensen's true love.

Jensen would be back today from a trip and you were really excited. It has been so long since you've seen him. You couldn't wait to throw yourself in his huge arms along with having a night where you could talk about everything and nothing. Just like old times. 

And as hours passed, Jensen still hasn't come home yet. 

You've been sending him messages, but they were just left on delivered. He hasn't opened any of them and you were starting to get worried. 

Was his flight delayed? Or did something come up? Was there an  accident?

You paced back and forth, your mind consumed with worry.

When 3 AM came, the front door to the house opened and Jensen entered. You stood up from your spot on the couch, feeling fully awake and ran over to him. As you got closer to him, you immediately knew what he was doing. 

Jensen stunk of alcohol and you noticed a purple mark on his neck. 

What happened to you?" You asked, feigning Innocence. 

"N- Nothing. I was at Jared's place and he had a party." He spoke, voice slightly slurred and you could tell that he was drunk. 

"You know, a phone call or text message wouldn't kill you." You said and he snorted, walking straight to y'all room, completely ignoring you. 

Jensen threw himself on the bed, falling asleep immediately before you could talk to him. 

You sighed and went to sleep in the guest room. The smell of alcohol was essentially too much and you couldn't sleep next to him.

The next morning you prepared  breakfast for you and your husband. 

Although you were still a little hurt because of last night, you knew that it was because Jensen was drunk. So, you decided to make breakfast for him and actually talk to him. 

When breakfast was ready, you went to wake him up as you grabbed some medicine for his hangover. 

But, looks like he wouldn't need it after all, seeing how he wasn't in the room. 

You searched every part of the house but there was no sign of him at all. You took out your phone to call him when a message popped up on his phone. 

“D and I are going to breakfast and then will be spending time in the mountains.  I'll be back next week.” ~Jensen. 

As you read over that message, you let out a humorless laugh. 

You barely spend any time with your husband and when he finally comes home, he decides to spend time with her. You cook nice and he's not here to even eat it. 

And apparently he gave her a nickname, too. 

You loved Jensen from the bottom of your heart, but you couldn't take this anymore. You couldn't take being the only one putting in any effort into this relationship, or if it could even be called that. You couldn't take being the one to text him first only to not receive a response. Couldn't stand being the person who waited for him to come home, only to never really come home. 

You've had enough.

Jensen had texted you that he was coming home in an hour. 

Your bags were packed with all of your clothes and stuff, and placed into your suitcase. 

"This is for your own good, Y/N." You told yourself once again. 

You glanced around your house one more time. So many memories have been here. Happy memories of you and him. They seem like distant memories now. 

The door to the house opened and for the first time, you didn't meet him at the door like you'd usually do. 

Jensen was surprised by this, having expected it. He walked over to you. 

You didn't have the courage to end like this. Maybe he'll wake up and see what he has been putting you through. 

"Hey, I'm gonna go to sleep. In a few hours I'm going to Vancouver." 

You looked at him and managed to mask the hurt and anger that made it's way onto your face. Looks like he still hasn't realized. 

You shook your head, "No your not. We're going to talk right now." 

"Look Y/N I'm tired and-" 

"You always seem to be tired when you're with me, right?" You interrupted him, standing up and looking at him in the eyes, "Always tired and can never have time with me. Can never stay with me." 

Jensen looked at you confused, "What, Y/N? What are you talking about?" 

"I'm talking about our relationship being one huge joke, Jensen." You stated. 

"What do you mean by that?" He asked, not understanding what you are trying to say. 

"You're never at home, Jensen! I always have to be the one to try and make our relationship work and you seem to be looking for an excuse to get away from me. Hell, last year we barely spent two months together!" You snapped. 

Jensen laughed sarcastically before looking at you angrily, "Well, I'm sorry that I have to work. I forgot how selfish you could be. I need time to myself. It's not easy working my ass off to give this life. This rich life." He growled. 

"Oh, well I'm sorry that wanting to spend time with my husband is selfish. And do you really think I care about being rich? I loved you since you had to ask money to buy candy. I never cared about money. I always wanted you and you clearly can't see how unhappy I've been." 

The eyes that once looked at you with love now looked at you with hatred.

Jensen didn't answer for a second, thinking as he looked down at the ground before snorting and looking at you, "If you are so unhappy then why don't you just leave." 

You looked at him with sadness in your eyes. 

That was it. 

Jensen no longer cared about your relationship and he didn't even fight for you. Or even try to make things better between you both. He just gave up. 

Just like that. 

And you felt your heart break. 

"If this is what you want. I'll leave." You stated, trying your best not to cry in front of him. 

You left the room and went to get your bag and from the bedroom, you heard the sound of Jensen's car engine taking off down the road. 

You sighed as you looked around this room looking one last time. 

'Do it for your own good Y/N.' You thought as you walked out of the house.

Seven months have passed since your break up with Jensen and you hadn't been doing well. 

Jensen was someone who was always there for you since you were a kid. Not talking to him was a completely strange and new sensation to you. 

You couldn't help but think about him. 

When you saw something funny or when you had a nightmare you would always call Jensen. 

Sometimes, you'd have your phone in your hand with his contact information, ready to call him. 

'Would he answer me?' You asked yourself. 

You shook your head, "He doesn't care about you. Move on." You muttered. 

Both of your lives went on without one another. 

"You will survive Y/N." You told yourself, "You got this man."

You were sitting in the cafe that was across the street from your job. The place was pretty empty and you sat there in a booth with a cup of coffee, enjoying the peaceful silence.  

The place was in complete silence, except for a small TV near your table which was playing something. 

You weren't paying attention to it until you heard the name Jensen Ackles coming on the TV. 

 "The actor, Jensen ackles who is best known for his role as Dean Winchester on the TV show supernatural, posted a video saying that he and Danneel Harris have been in a fake relationship for years." 

Your eyes widened, staring at the TV as you sipped on your coffee.

"Well, there is no reason for him to keep her as his beard anymore. He must have found someone he really loves now." You sighed in exasperation. 

"The actor also stated that this fake relationship has cost him a lot,  especially the relationship with the love of his life." The anchor said but you didn't care.

You arrived at your old house after a long and exhausting day of work. 

After your parents died, you refused to sell your old house. Jensen always said  that it didn't make sense since you lived with him. Nowadays, you are grateful for not selling it. 

You threw yourself on the couch and fell asleep quickly.

You were woken up later by a knock on the door. 

"Who the fuck could be at the door this late at night?" You pondered, getting up off the couch and walking over to the door. 

You opened the door, not fully awake and your eyes only half open, "What?" 

"Can I talk to you, Y/N?" The sound of Jensen's voice made your eyes open, feeling fully awake at the moment. 

Jensen stood in front of the door, holding a bouquet of your favorite flowers. 

You stared at him before slamming the door in his face.

"Y/N, please open the door!" Jensen pleaded and you didn't respond, "I'll climb into your window, or break your door down and you know I can." He threatened and you sighed, opening the door for him. 

Jensen was wearing Dean Winchester's classic smile as he held the flowers out to you. 

"A beautiful thing for a beautiful thing."  You looked at the flowers before looking at him again as you gave him a look that said, 'Just get on with it already.'

"Teenage you would have loved the fact that I gave you flowers." Jensen said as you took the flowers out of his hand. He walked over to sit on the couch. 

"Teenage me believed you cared about me." You spoke up, and placed the flowers on the counter and walked over to him. You stood with your arms crossed as you waited for him to speak. 

Jensen opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. 

If you don't tell me what you came here to tell me, I'll call the cops." You said seriously. 

"I'm sorry." Jensen spoke quickly and you waited for him to continue. 

An awkward silence took over for a few seconds before Jensen coughed. 

"If that's all you have to say, then you can get out of here." You exclaimed, turning away from him. 

"Y/N I'm an idiot, okay?"

You nodded, "Yeah, you are." 

"And I regret what happened that day. I should have asked you to say instead of telling you to leave." 

"You should've but didn't. Close the door on the way out, will ya?" 

"Y/N I-"

"Look Jensen, I don't know what game you are playing, or if your just desperate for sex. Or if the person you were staying with dumped you, but I will not continue to give my all to someone that isn't given back. You can leave." 

"I'm not dating anyone Y/N, and I'm not here for sex." Jensen sighed, "I'm a complete idiot. I was so used to you being there that I was never aware of how much I needed you. "Jensen looked down at the ground as he spoke. 

"Ever since you've been gone, I missed you like crazy and all I wanted was to hear the sound of your voice. I missed having you by my side." 

"When we were together, you never slept at home and didn't even bother to call me, so stop bullshitting me." You shouted, feeling fed up with this crap. 

"And I deeply regret everything that has happened. I was frustrated because I never had time for you anymore and I pushed you away. Not the smartest decision, I know and when you brought it up, I took my anger out on you, though I was angry with myself. When our relationship ended, I thought it was for the best, but i can't live without you!" He explained, tears falling from his eyes. 

He crouched down next to your feet, wrapping his arms around your leg and hugged it tightly. 

"I love you so much, Y/N. I'm such an idiot and you deserve better than me, but I love you so much. I've loved you ever since we were kids, and I promise that if you take me back, I'll drop everything for you. I'll quit acting, won't go to anymore conventions, all of it! I just want my man back." 

Your pants were really wet now because of the tears from Jensen. You knew now that he regretted his decision.

And deep down you knew that Jensen was the one for you. 

You ran your fingers through Jensen's hair which made him look up at you, sniffling a little. 

"You have another chance, but you better not fuck it up again." With that sentence, Jensen stood up and started planting kisses all over your face, "And you don't have to give up your career for me, Jen. You just need to make sure that we spend time with each other, okay?" 

He nodded, shedding a few happy tears. But they weren't sad tears. They were tears of Joy.

~ 6 months later ~

"Hey Karen, can you please give these files to Jenny?" You asked, holding the files out to her as she took them and  nodded her head, "Thanks!" 

Y/N L/N!" Your co-worker, Lily called out, walking into your office as Karen walked out, giving you a hug, "Or should I call you Y/N Ackles now? Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!!" 

You looked at her confused and a little frightened. How did she find out? 

Seeing how confused you look, she showed you her phone and it was pictures that Jensen posted on his instagram. 

It was pictures of you and him. He posted 5 pictures of you guys together. 

The first phone was you and him as babies, playing in the sandbox together which was taken by your mother.

The second one was of you and him in high school. He had a wide smile on his face as he hugged. 

The third one was of you and him cooking together and smiling happily at the camera. 

The fourth one was of you and Jensen the day you got married. 

And the last one was of you lying on his chest. 

The caption said: Today, I would like to show the world my handsome husband and the love of my life, Y/N Ackles! I have known him since we were kids and always had a crush on him. He is the most amazing and lovable person in the world and he's very out of my league. Unfortunately, I fucked up our relationship many times, but he gave me another chance even though I didn't deserve it. I love you Y/N Ackles!! Thanks for always being with me! 

(Btw, I know he's hot, but he's mine!) 

You were shocked to see that he told the world about your relationship and tears started streaming down your face.

"Are you okay, Y/N?" Lily asked, as you gave her back her phone. You didn't answer her question. Instead, you ran to the men's room and took out your phone, calling Jensen.

He picked up the phone after 4 rings.

"Hey Y/N!"

"Jensen, what was that all about?" You questioned.

"Did you not like it?" He asked, worried that you didn't like what he had done.

"I loved it. I loved it alot and I love you, but are you sure you were ready to come out right now? You know how Hollywood is."

"Fuck Hollywood! If they don't want me anymore for loving another man then I don't care. I have you and that's more than enough for me."

You smiled at the words spoken from Jensen and the two of you talked for a little while longer like two teenagers.

Your relationship with Jensen was strange and difficult at times, but you wouldn't trade him for anyone else.
