"Living With My Parents is a Nightmare So I Gotta Get The Hell Out of Here!" the Fundraiser
Hi! I'm Cecil. 21 year old guy of some kind living in Louisiana, but hopefully not for long. I'm trying to escape my parents' household. Living here is driving me to madness, it's making my health worse, and I can't even go to the doctor about it. I'm trying to move in with my partner in crime, Cyan e8luhs, so I can finally get my life started! My parents keep me from learning how to drive, from holding down a job, and withhold food and medical care. I haven't been to a dentist since I was single digits and my teeth are kind of not doing so great! I need new glasses! I have no control over my life and I'm kept perpetually isolated and without any money. There are periods where I'm unable to leave the house for weeks at a time, because my mother- the only person even a little willing to drive me- refuses to take me anywhere! It sucks! I hate it here. So I'm moving to Michigan so I can actually live my life, and do things like Get A Job and Buy My Own Groceries and Go To The Doctor. Among many other things. If you could throw me a couple bucks or even just share that would help so much. The situation is kind of dire but I'm trying to keep my spirits up. Thanks for reading.

Hey! I saw your post on diet culture and fast food and wanted to know what you mean about "diet culture would rather us starve than admit fast food is an accessible food resource"? Could you elaborate? (sorry for the paraphrase, I'm on mobile.) Thanks!
So, I'm disabled in a number of ways. I struggle really hard with executive function, appetite, sensory issues, and pain/fatigue/brainfog that makes deciding on food, and then following the process of making that food very difficult on a good day.
I've always had food issues -- I've snuck whole mouthfuls of food I could not physically make myself eat into the bathroom to spit it out in the toilet because I'd been told I had to eat it. I've puked from the texture of food. And I've gone hungry because food that was prepared is food I could not eat, for a number of reasons.
I'm also really fucking poor. I cannot work a regular job anymore. Groceries have actively skyrocketed to the point where our household is spending less than HALF of what we should be for the number of people. The difference between buying a bunch of groceries that we may or may not eat before they expire or our tastes for them die and simply purchasing a meal from a fast food joint is literally just the cost of labor -- saving us from expending spoons on deciding, buying ingredients, preparing, cooking, and then eating that food, which I will again stress that we might not actually eat.
There's only so many times you can have Walmart brand chicken nuggets before you physically cannot choke it down again.
Diet culture has a huge focus on eating the "right" kind of foods as well as this weird "self-sufficiency" fetish for cooking that can be fine but has a bad habit of edging into ableism. If you physically cannot cook on a regular basis, for any reason, and you have a lot of fast food meals, you get judged a lot for it. It's labeled "unhealthy" and "lazy". I am often told that I just "haven't found the right recipes" or "cooking hacks". No, man, I'm just fucking disabled.
Personally, I'd label starving as more unhealthy than eating fast food, but people don't like hearing that you aren't willing to swallow whatever gruel society thinks people in poverty deserve to have.
For me, fast food is predictable, safe, filling, often less expensive, convenient, spoons-saving, and it means I will eat. I also just genuinely think a lot of fast food tastes good. Sure, it's not fresh veggies and fruits, but I'm not getting those anyway. When I buy groceries, it's the cheapest items possible which means a lot of frozen foods, packaged pastas, and cereals.
And this isn't even looking at food deserts where grocery stores are few and far between, but fast food chains are everywhere. Even my Louisiana hometown, boasting a population of 10,659 people as of 2020, has a Burger King, McDonald's, Hardee's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Popeyes, and numerous pizza delivery places. Y'know what closed down though? The Piggly Wiggly, one of the more affordable grocery stores -- my grandmother actually worked there during my childhood -- and I don't think the Winn-Dixie is even open there anymore either. So all they've got is a Walmart.
Fast food is an accessible food resource, and diet culture would rather see us starve than acknowledge that.

In many cases, climate change is further increasing the economic pressure on Indigenous communities to make quick-and-dirty deals with extractive industries. That’s because disruptive weather changes, particularly in northern regions, are making it much harder to hunt and fish (for example when the ice is almost never solid, communities in the far north become virtually trapped, unable to harvest food for months on end). All this makes it extremely hard to say no to offers of job training and resource sharing when companies like Shell come to town. Members of these communities know that the drilling will only make it harder to engage in subsistence activities—there are real concerns about the effects of oil development on the migration of whales, walruses, and caribou—and that’s without the inevitable spills. But precisely because the ecology is already so disrupted by climate change, there often seems no other option.
The paucity of good choices is perhaps best on display in Greenland, where receding glaciers and melting ice are revealing a vast potential for new mines and offshore oil exploration. The former Danish colony gained home rule in 1979, but the Inuit nation still relies on an annual infusion of more than $600 million (amounting to a full third of the economy) from Denmark. A 2008 self-governance referendum gave Greenland still more control over its own affairs, but also put it firmly on the path of drilling and mining its way to full independence. “We’re very aware that we’ll cause more climate change by drilling for oil,” a top Greenlandic official, then heading the Office of Self-Governance, said in 2008. “But should we not? Should we not when it can buy us our independence?” Currently, Greenland’s largest industry is fishing, which of course would be devastated by a major spill. And it doesn’t bode well that one of the companies selected to begin developing Greenland’s estimated fifty billion barrels of offshore oil and gas is none other than BP.
Indeed the melancholy dynamic strongly recalls BP’s “vessels of opportunity” program launched in the midst of the Deepwater Horizon disaster. For months, virtually the entire Louisiana fishing fleet was docked, unable to make a living for fear that the seafood was unsafe. That’s when BP offered to convert any fishing vessel into a cleanup boat, providing it with booms to (rather uselessly) mop up some oil. It was tremendously difficult for local shrimpers and oystermen to take work from the company that had just robbed them of their livelihood—but what choice did they have? No one else was offering to help pay the bills. This is the way the oil and gas industry holds on to power: by tossing temporary life rafts to the people it is drowning.

1938 - PAULINE JOHNSON and FELICE BOUDREAUX, sisters, were once slaves on the plantation of Dermat Martine, near Opelousas, Louisiana. As their owners were French, they are more inclined to use a Creole patois than English.
"Us was both slaves on de old plantation close to Opelousas," Pauline began. As the elder of the two sisters she carried most of the conversation, although often referring to Felice before making positive statements.
"I was 12 year old when freedom come and Felice was 'bout six. Us belonged to Massa Dermat Martine and the missy's name Mimi. They raise us both in the house and they love us so they spoil us. I never will forget that. The little white chillen was younger than me, 'bout Felice's age. They sho' had pretty li'l curly black hair.
"Us didn't have hard time. Never even knowed hard time. That old massa, he what you call a good man.
"Us daddy was Renee and he work in the field. The old massa give him a mud and log house and a plot of ground for he own. The rain sho' never get in that log house, it so tight. The furniture was homemake, but my daddy make it good and stout.
"Us daddy he work de ground he own on Sunday and sold the things to buy us shoes to put on us feet and clothes. The white folks didn't give us clothes but they let him have all the money he made in his own plot to get them.
"Us mama name Marguerite and she a field hand, too, so us chillen growed up in the white folks house mostly. 'Fore Felice get big enough to leave I stay in the big house and take care of her.
"One day us papa fall sick in the bed, just 'fore freedom, and he kep' callin' for the priest. Old massa call the priest and just 'fore us papa die the priest marry him and my mama. 'fore dat they just married by the massa's word.
"Felice and me, us have two brothers what was born and die in slavery, and one sister still livin' in Bolivar now. Us three uncles, Bruno and Pophrey and Zaphrey, they goes to the war. Them three dies too young. The Yankees stole them and make them boys fight for them.
"I never done much work but wash the dishes. They wasn't poor people and they uses good dishes. The missy real particular 'bout us shinin' them dishes nice, and the silver spoons and knives, too.
"Them white people was good Christian people and they christen us both in the old brick Catholic church in Opelousas. They done torn it down now. Missy give me pretty dress to get christen in. My godmother, she Mileen Nesaseau, but I call her 'Miran'. My godfather called 'Paran.'
"On Sunday mornin' us fix our dress and hair and go up to the missy's looking-glass to see if us pretty enough go to church. Us goes to Mass every Sunday mornin' and church holiday, and when the cullud folks sick massa send for the priest same's for the white folks.
"We wears them things on the strings round the neck for the good of the heart. They's nutmeg.
"The plantation was a big, grand place and they have lots of orange trees. The slaves pick them oranges and pack then down on the barrel with la mosse (Spanish moss) to keep them. They was plenty pecans and figs, too.
"In slavery time most everybody round Opelousas talk Creole. That make the words hard to come sometime. Us both talk that better way than English.
"Durin' the war, it were a sight. Every mornin' Capt. Jenerette Bank and he men go a hoss-back drillin' in the pasture and then have drill on foot. A white lady take all us chillen to the drill ground every mornin'. Us take the lunch food in the basket and stay till they done drill out.
"I can sing for you the song they used to sing:
"O, de Yankee come to put de nigger free,
Says I, says I, pas bonne;
In eighteen-sixty-three,
De Yankee get out they gun and say,
Hurrah! Let's put on the ball.
"When war over none the slaves wants leave the plantation. My mama and us chillen stays on till old massa and missy dies, and then goes live on the old Repridim place for a time.
"Both us get marry in that Catholic church in Opelousas. As for me, it most too long ago to talk about. His name Alfred Johnson and he dead 12 years. Our youngest boy, John, go to the World War. Two my nephews die in that war and one nephew can't walk now from that war.
"Felice marry Joseph Boudreaux and when he die she come here to stay with me. There's more hard time now than in the old day for us, but I hope things get better.

Heyyyyyy I saw you were taking requests :)
Can we please have some NY and Louisiana hc’s?
Hii! Yes of course :D
New York:
-He likes to paint and read. His favorite things to paint are sunsets/sunrises, architecture (CA's Golden Gate, FL's Disney World, his own buildings, etc), and plants. His favorite types of books to read are psychological thriller, fantasy, and coming of age classics (occasionally romance as well, though he'd never admit it)
-He and California have little arguments where they talk about how similar they are to each other. "I have the Brooklyn Bridge!" "Well I have the Golden Gate!" "I have the New York Times, you copycat!" "No you're the copycat, I have the Los Angeles Times!" They're not really arguments though since these conversations usually end in laughter.
-Speaking of the NYT, he likes to journal. Whenever he can't resort to violence to let out emotions, he writes his feelings out on the nearest piece of paper he can find. Sometimes he burns them, other times he keeps them in a special drawer to read for later. He also likes to write little moments that occur in his life that he finds interesting; like eating good food, making a snowman, discovering a new song he knows he'll hyperfixate on for months, etc. He also likes to write books, though most of the time they're just little picture books you could read to kids because that's all he has time for
-I've mentioned this before, but New York plays board games with California. He wins against Cal in Monopoly but loses against him in Uno. New York also plays games (board games and party games) against his northeastern besties and he's very competitive when doing so.
-He's a fashion icon. The other states ask him for fashion advice and he delivers since fashion is a passion for him 💅 He's been told he could be a model, but he never actively pursued a modeling career bc of his statehouse responsibilities
-I feel like he'd be a huge fan of Taylor Swift, especially 1989 TV. Evermore's another one of her albums that he vibes with since a song called coney island's on it and bc it's a calming album for him :)
-He's friendly to Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. All three states are kind and don't annoy him, and New York appreciates that. They also all play in the snow at times. He also has a soft spot for Indiana, Wyoming, and Alaska.
-This one's a popular one, but my baby over here has insomnia. The only way he can get a true night's rest is if somebody's there to cuddle him ane calm his mind down, like *coughs* California. This fic by @alaskashigh is a great example of this if you want to read one :)
-Him and Illinois get along well. They buy each other coats for the winter and argue a lot about pizza and sports teams. Through this, New York managed to get along with Indiana and Minnesota, and now all three of them like to grocery shop together lol
-When that whole fiasco of the skies turning orange occured in the Northeast, the first person New York turned to was California, and rightfully so. California helped patch New York up and gave him advice on how to deal with stuff like that. New York told the rest of the NE what Cal told him so that they also know what to do.
-He shows he cares through gifts and actions. He doesn't say "I love you" very often, but he'd hurt anyone who hurts his loved ones, give you his coat when you're cold, make you some food, or plants specific flowers when he finds out what flowers you like. New Jersey usually helps New York with the planting part, and that's one of the rare times those 2 get along.
Louisiana:
-Louisiana hangs out in the woods with Florida and Texas just to get away from the Statehouse and to gossip.
-One of his favorite songs ever is House of the Rising Sun, and he never misses an opportunity to sing it. You can hear him sing it while he cooks, cleans, or when he does really anything. The states aren't annoyed about it though because his voice is captivating.
-He's a very comforting person. The states go to him whenever they need somebody to talk to because Loui can do it all: he can listen, cook, and make jokes.. whatever you need to feel better.
-He enjoys learning about old folk tales, urban legends, and superstitions in the US and around the world. The states often catch him watching paranormal true crime documentaries with a grin on his face, and the only state that's not unsettled by this is Florida.
-Speaking of Florida, he and Florida go on dates by doing the most dangerous stuff. Skydiving without parachutes, doing hit and runs, armed robbery in important government buildings just to make Gov mad, whatever crazy things these goons can think of. But on other times where they're feeling relaxed, their dates are just them cuddling or eating. They enjoy both bc they have each other :)
-(TW: suicide, death) If he was a normal person, he'd be dead a long time ago. He's been stabbed, shot at, beat up, hanged, basically killed, but since he's a personification he just sustained the injuries and went on about his day. When he found out he was a personification, he killed himself just to see what'd happen. Would he clearly see the paranormal stuff he likes so much? Would he see an afterlife? Imagine his surprise when nothing happened to him.
-He can read, but he just doesn't want to. He just likes to read his Mama's recipes and children's books. When New York makes a new children's book, Loui usually asks him if he can read it, and New York lets him.
-He was a nice kid in high school. Respectful to his Mama, probably indulged in some sports, escaped to the woods once in a while, and had a decent group of friends that were just as wild as him. He's the type of guy to not make any enemies, and he was one of those rare ones who were good looking in high school (I wish that were me lmao)
-He and Texas are buddies and cook together a lot. When Louisiana needs help with anything, especially natural disasters, Texas is the first one to make sure he's okay and vice versa. When Florida's off doing... something that definitely is a threat to his life and/or someone else's (aka being himself), Loui and Texas go to parties together. Loui gets drunk and usually almost blacks out whereas Texas only takes a couple drinks to make sure he and Loui get back home safe. They got each other's backs, basically.
-He and South Dakota get along most of the time, and the only time they don't is when SD talks about Pierre and pronounces it "peer". Loui doesn't take it too seriously, but they like to jokingly argue about it.
-He has a big heart and it's obvious. He likes to show love through his words and his actions. Like New York, he wouldn't hesitate to throw a punch to someone who has hurt you, but he also would stop whatever he's doing to make sure you feel loved and taken care of. He's almost burned the statehouse down once because he was comforting his buddy Arkansas, but California was around to stop this potential fire. He also likes to say he cares about you, you can occasionally hear him say je t'aime mon amour/mon ami(e) & tu es magnifique. (I love you, my love/my friend & you are beautiful).
That's all I have for now, thank you for the ask :D

UGH HAD THOUGHT ABOUT HEAVY AND THE SOUTHERN READER
heavy definitely has a harder time w accents than the other non native english speakers on the team and tbh maybe he even thought the texas, oklahoma, louisiana area was a different country it basically is anyways but heavy is like amazed at the differences in culture just from a different area of the US and then he wants to learn about different people and begins w southern reader and is like flabbergasted at the history of the south bc god i’m just saying texas history class was terrible and maybe reader is like hmm history class isn’t working v good time for hands on learning and takes heavy to a rodeo idk if y’all have those in whatever southern part y’all r from but its a giant carnival that lasts a whole month w livestock shows, livestock shows where the kids basically fight to the death and for their lives, local shops, and food competitions and all that stuff the whole time reader takes him out there maybe even gets heavy a cowboy hat w a texas buckle on it and silly boots w spurs and texas anon has a stroke the end hhhhhhi foegort sorry
-texas is moldy sorry guys :(
RHIS IS SO CUTE RAAAA also please don’t die-
Heavy with a southern reader
98% of the time he does not understand a WORD that comes out of your mouth, yet he still looks like he’s intently listening to whatever you have to say.
He finds you funny- like all the other mercs, just silly little babies with silly little accents!
especially hearing how thick your accent gets when you’re angry, at that point he just scoops you up and carries you away from the problem to help you calm down.
He learns a lot from you, he’s always either amazed or slightly horrified at southern history (mostly horrified, to be fair).
But you show him all the cool, fun stuff like state fairs, different types of food, and last but not least- rodeos!
Never in his life did he anticipate loving rodeos as much as he does now, not only because it’s his favorite way to bond with you + seeing how your eyes light up just improves his whole YEAR.
He feels even more special when you buy him a cowboy hat, and he decides to surprise you by dressing up in an entire cowboy outfit! and by god, does he wear it well.
He of course got some assistance from dell when it came to the actual coordination of the outfit but he sure does look handsome!

Agere Dead Sea Siblings headcanons
Their brains do age regression as a coping and defense mechanism from trauma
Technically all flips but only Percy calls themself a caregiver since Nico and Hazel only take care of him when he's a Little while he does it in general for anybody who needs it due to him being an adult while they're only kids
Hazel's ages are 2-3,Nico's are 3-5 and Percy's are 7-8 with the occasional 2
As a cg,Percy does babytalk sometimes, carries them around, gives them extra kisses and takes them on safe adventures like gardening and playing hide and seek. He's learned how to spot when they're tiny when they try to hide it and eventually it gets to the point where they stop trying because of all his reassurances and how safe she makes them feel so now instead they make a b-line for him when it happens
Percy was actually able to repress his regression out of sheer spite and anger when it started(Poseidon genes)but after his self-eestem improved he told Sally about it and she did research so they could find out what was up with him and by then she'd adopted Nico so they knew he's one too and same goes for Hazel when him and Percy ressurected her at Persephone's request so she'd be a part of the Second Great Prophecy
They're all animal regressors too-Nico's a baby bat,Hazel's a pony/fillie and Percy's a kitty
Little!Nico and Hazel call Percy 'Papa/Mama' as opposed to their usual sibling terms for her since while she's normally already a parental figure to them, their age amps it up big time and they call Little!Percy 'Princess'
And Little!Percy calls them 'Coco' and 'Azie' while Cg!Percy calls them his 'Little Rockstars' and 'Precious'(as in pearls)
Nico likes halloween costumes,card games,chewy tender food,being thrown around and storybased songs,Hazel likes tutus,Monster High,black louisiana food sweet or heavy kinds,playfighting,hyperpop and Percy likes coloring,tickles,bubble baths,fairy tales,themed food(Cookie Monster especially)and Lo-Fi Chiptunes
Nico's a pretty quiet kid and takes naps a lot but still energetic,Hazel's even more of a little shit and gets even girlier and Percy's a handful but not in a bad way
Sally saved up to buy them an easy bake oven, toy phones that match their tastes(A box of fries for Nico,a ghost with a bow for Hazel and a pink cat for Percy)and even made them pacis with the diy skills Percy taught her
The cat themed communication cards Nico and Hazel made Percy as a thank you for all he's done for them come into use her for both Percy themself and them borrowing them since she's cool with it
Hazel plays witch often and Percy's more than happy to be her familiar wether he's big or tiny
Nico likes feeling independent so his siblings don't overdue it so he dosen't cry or throw tantrums. However,he's also extra sensitive to his chronic pain in this state so he also understands he needs help with certain things
Hazel's hair is often filled with colorful butterfly hairclips by Percy's doing at her request,Nico's hair gets put into protective styles for safety by Sally or one of his siblings and Percy perfers having his styles changed throught his regressions
Their favorite shows are Max and Ruby,Kiya and the Kimoja Heroes,Bluey,Blues Clues,Dragon Tales,Adventure Time and Spidey and his Amazing Friends with Percy having a huge (platonic obvs) thing for Gwen Stacy thanks to it and the Spiderverse movies so she has secondhand merch of her and made her Atsv suit for herself so she could wear it
And she also made a Miles Morales one for Nico since they're literally Siblings!Ghost Flower and a Peni Parker one for Hazel based off the Across concept art since Hazel has a huge crush on Peni
Nico also loves Tiny Titans and Hazel is the number one Koriand'r fan and Percy models his drawing style after the DC Superhero Girls 2019 one
Percy started collecting stim gifs for them and they did the same for him but with Sonic the Hedgehog memes and cute fanart
Nico also calls Percy and Hazel 'Squish/Squishy' as nicknames since they're both fat/plus-sized and have expressed that it makes them feel insecure
They have matching Aquapets and Percy's even more into legos in tiny mode than he is normally
They have a big children's makeup kit they all share because it has sections with different kinds and that's why Sally bought it for them(i.e One's goth makeup, another's pink and purple and yellow and the last one's ocean themed along with all of them having glitter options)
Percy's obssessed with Rainbow Dash all the time but copies her speech as a Little and can't play his scary games like Undertale and Deltarune in that state so he plays Nickjr games instead
Hazel's a no impulse control kid but knows what she's doing, perfers figurines over plushies because she likes the texture better and same goes for sneakers over slippers and adores clowns!!
Percy earns the nickname 'Wonder Woman' because of the greek demigoddess and expert at being good with kids combo
Sally made the Familia Jackson Beach Shack 100% child-safe because of them

Intricate, invisible webs, just like this one, link some of the world’s largest food companies and most popular brands to jobs performed by U.S. prisoners nationwide, according to a sweeping two-year AP investigation into prison labor that tied hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of agricultural products to goods sold on the open market.
They are among America’s most vulnerable laborers. If they refuse to work, some can jeopardize their chances of parole or face punishment like being sent to solitary confinement. They also are often excluded from protections guaranteed to almost all other full-time workers, even when they are seriously injured or killed on the job.
The goods these prisoners produce wind up in the supply chains of a dizzying array of products found in most American kitchens, from Frosted Flakes cereal and Ball Park hot dogs to Gold Medal flour, Coca-Cola and Riceland rice. They are on the shelves of virtually every supermarket in the country, including Kroger, Target, Aldi and Whole Foods. And some goods are exported, including to countries that have had products blocked from entering the U.S. for using forced or prison labor.
Many of the companies buying directly from prisons are violating their own policies against the use of such labor. But it’s completely legal, dating back largely to the need for labor to help rebuild the South’s shattered economy after the Civil War. Enshrined in the Constitution by the 13th Amendment, slavery and involuntary servitude are banned – except as punishment for a crime.
That clause is currently being challenged on the federal level, and efforts to remove similar language from state constitutions are expected to reach the ballot in about a dozen states this year.
Some prisoners work on the same plantation soil where slaves harvested cotton, tobacco and sugarcane more than 150 years ago, with some present-day images looking eerily similar to the past. In Louisiana, which has one of the country’s highest incarceration rates, men working on the “farm line” still stoop over crops stretching far into the distance. {read}

A hidden path to America’s dinner tables begins here, at an unlikely source – a former Southern slave plantation that is now the country’s largest maximum-security prison.
Unmarked trucks packed with prison-raised cattle roll out of the Louisiana State Penitentiary, where men are sentenced to hard labor and forced to work, for pennies an hour or sometimes nothing at all. After rumbling down a country road to an auction house, the cows are bought by a local rancher and then followed by The Associated Press another 600 miles to a Texas slaughterhouse that feeds into the supply chains of giants like McDonald’s, Walmart and Cargill.

While most critics don’t believe all jobs should be eliminated, they say incarcerated people should be paid fairly, treated humanely and that all work should be voluntary. Some note that even when people get specialized training, like firefighting, their criminal records can make it almost impossible to get hired on the outside.
“They are largely uncompensated, they are being forced to work, and it’s unsafe. They also aren’t learning skills that will help them when they are released,” said law professor Andrea Armstrong, an expert on prison labor at Loyola University New Orleans. “It raises the question of why we are still forcing people to work in the fields.”

Seeing You Again
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
||Dean Winchester/Benny Lafitte|| ||Diners|| ||Fluff|| ||Creole Benny|| Insecure Dean||
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dean watches from the Impala as Benny bustles around his diner, taking orders, chatting up customers, just being his overall sparkling self.
He doesn’t even know why he came here. It had been weeks since he’d talked to Benny, the guy probably didn’t even wanna talk to him, much less actually see him in person. But as of late things had been difficult and tense between him and Sam, and with Cas being in the wind, ignoring his prayers, Dean had really started to feel that same dreaded feeling of aching loneliness.
So, purely on impulse, Dean had taken the Impala and driven all the way to the bayous of Carencro, Louisiana , in the hopes that maybe, maybe….
Dean takes a deep breath, steadies himself, and steps out of the comforts of his car, making his way towards the front door of Lafitte’s Cajun And Creole. He remembers smiling slightly to himself when he learned of Benny’s success as a business owner, if the locals ravings were anything to go by. He remembers long nights in Purgatory when Benny would wistfully talk about wanting to become a diner owner ever since he had been young, saving up enough money so he could eventually buy his own place. His dimpled smile, the way his eyes would light up, Dean could’ve listened to Benny talk about his dreams for eternity.
Dean briefly pauses at the front door before pushing through, setting off the tinkering bell overhead. He hears the distinctive sound of Benny’s voice, warm and smooth accented with his heritage in New Orleans, say “Be right with ya!” and decides to sit at the front counter where a line of stools are arranged. He catches brief glimpses of Benny moving about in the kitchens, stirring pots, frying up foods, etc. He definitely looked good, no longer gaunt and worn down by the world like he had been all those months ago .
He seemed to have filled out more, especially around the stomach and arms, which Dean could admit was greatly attractive. His tight curly hair was now styled in a short fade, salt and pepper beard slightly more grown out, pink stripped shirt unbuttoned at the top to expose rich brown skin dusted with a healthy amount of dark hair. He knew it was probably slightly wrong to be checking him out when he hadn’t exactly been there for him, but his neglected libido definitely knew what it wanted. Too bad he wouldn’t get to have it, though.
Dean feels his heart rate pick up as Benny finally makes his way to the front, eyes trained on a notepad in his hand. “Sorry about the hold up doll, what can I get ya today?” He still hasn’t noticed it’s Dean. So, clearing his throat in an attempts to rid it of the golf ball suddenly lodged within, he speaks up, voice hoarse. “Hey Benny.”
Benny finally looks up, cornflower blue eyes narrowing slightly in confusion before widening and then softening in recognition. “Dean?” He sets down his notepad, lips turned up slightly in a smile. Like he was happy to see him. “That really you shug?”
Dean gives his own small smile, grateful he hasn’t been kicked to the curb. “Yeah. Yeah it’s me.” Benny full on smiles at that point, sharp canines gleaming, small scars on the bottom of his lips stretching. And then he actually goes around the counter to where Dean is sitting and pulls him in, thick arms wrapping around his shoulders, enveloping him in the smells of spices and herbs. Dean is grateful not too many people are in right now, because then he buries his face in the crook of Benny’s neck, let’s himself fully melt into the touch.
Benny then pulls away slightly, large hands caressing his shoulders. “L’amour de Dieu, it’s so good to see you Dean! How’ve ya been?” Dean shrugs. “Alright. You know how it is. Hunting and stuff.” If Dean sounded as lame as he felt Benny definitely picked up on it. “World knocking ya down, huh?”
Dean pauses, words threatening to spill over like a tidal wave. Benny shouldn’t be concerned about him, and guilt once again crushed his heart with an iron fist.
But before he can stop himself, “Benny, I just wanted to say how sorry I was about, well, everything. I should’ve been there for you more, I should’ve-” But before he could continue his ramblings Benny paused him with a light finger against his lips. “Dean, sugar pie, don’t worry about it.” At Dean’s protesting look he continues. “I understand why you left. It’s okay. You have family, a business to attend to. I’ll admit I struggled in the beginning , but I ain’t anymore. I got my own place, my dream job, I ain’t starving neither.”
Benny cups Dean’s face with a hand, warm and soft. “I’m okay now Dean. M’thriving. I’m happy. Don’t put more guilt on yourself than you already do. I personally won’t allow it.” Dean feels his face grow warm as Benny leans in, places a light kiss on his forehead, and then pulls away, still smiling brightly. “Now, imma get you something proper to eat, cause I have a feeling you haven’t got any fuel in you for a day or two. And then you and me are gonna talk some more.”
And with that Benny goes back to the kitchen, gathering up utensils and mugs, and for the first time in a while he feels at ease. Even if it was only for a while, he allowed himself to feel at peace.

my I Need Money post (AKA, please consider helping me survive my abusive homelife)
Tumblr media
Hi! I’m Cecil. I’m a 20 year old transgender artist from Louisiana, and I can make YOU art!
Art is my sole source of income, and I’m in a bit of a pickle. I am an adult now, and I gotta do adult things. like pay off debt. My sibling is 17. We are both victims of abuse and child neglect at the hands of our alcoholic parents. It’s not so great, but I’d like it to get better.
I’m disabled from medical neglect, and have no way to get my driver’s license. I am unable to get a job, as I live too far from anywhere that would hire me, with no way to get there. This is all I got, man! I got two hands and a warrior’s spirit!
My sibling is my pride and joy and I want to see them flourish and thrive because they’re awesome. They struggle with untreated bipolar disorder and a slew of medical problems, and I want to get them treated for it. I also need to take my two cats to the vet. I have debt I have to pay off, and I have to buy myself food to combat my increasingly declining weight. My clothes don’t fit very well anymore. :(
Art and design is my life-long passion, and I’d like to do it for the rest of my life, but I can’t if I can’t get on my feet. If you’d like to view more of my work, you can check some out here, or view some of my more professional work on my commission website here.
If you would like to financially support me, consider commissioning or donating! Even just sharing helps!

On a serious note, things at home are not great. This is where I talk about what is going on in detail. Details of abuse and neglect beyond this point. Not required reading, but necessary for context. Photos included.
It’s not that I’m just poor, my parents both work full-time jobs, and they manage to pay the bills. I have food and a roof over my head, but I own nothing but debt, and can’t financially support myself. My parents have been neglecting my sibling for years, and neglected me the same. They do nothing to help us.
My sibling is showing signs of health deterioration, likely malnutrition, and they don’t seem to be concerned about it at all. My health is getting worse, too, because my parents have ignored me when I have stated I am getting worse. I haven’t been to the dentist ever since I was a child. I live with disabling chronic pain and intense fatigue, and I don’t even have a diagnosis, since no one will take me to the doctor.
My sibling likely not going to graduate because my parents have not supported them at all with their mental health, education, or support them just in general. They live in total isolation alongside me. My parents are also the reason why I can’t get a job- they won’t teach me how to drive, and won’t provide transportation. I am physically trapped in my own house, and the only people who can drive refuse to take us anywhere. They also will not help clean the house, and they won’t help fix our dryer or washer, which are both broken. They won’t take our pets to the vet. They won’t spare any expenses for things that need to be done. They spend most of their money on alcohol. In my state, we are currently experiencing what one would call abuse and child neglect. This is one of the only times I have ever written, in detail, what my home life is like.
Tumblr media
Our washer and dryer, both broken. We don’t have any flooring in that room. The other is part of our living room floor. I am the only person who cleans the house in any capacity, and when I do it never, ever stays clean. The dirt is from my dad alone. I need to cover doctor’s visits, medication, food for my sibling, and vet costs for my pets. I would also maybe like to have a little treat every once in a while. I can’t physically drive, but if I am able to get the money for it, I can force my parents to take care of things. Due to the, er, abuse, I am also isolated from the world at large and have no support system. All things described on my sibling have been happening to me for years, but I’m technically an adult now, so there’s little anyone can do for me. Things aren’t so great, but I think they can get better through blood sweat and tears. Which is why I have to step up and try to do all these things myself! A difficult task, but I want to make art into something I could do as a job. Please lord have mercy, I want to wash my clothes. I can even save up for a car, and teach myself how to drive, so I can finally reach independence. Without financial support, I can’t achieve that at all. I am very stressed about everything. I’m very isolated as a result of not being allowed to go anywhere. I don’t have anyone I can confidently trust with my home-life situation. I have no resources either, as I live in an area with very little support for adult victims of parental abuse. I’ve never made a plea like this before. I just want to be able to live and thrive and survive on my own, and I just can’t do it at this rate. If I can go to the doctor, I can get healthier, and undo all the years of medical neglect and actually hold a full-time job making coffee like I’d like. I’m afraid both me and my sibling will never get anywhere in life, and I don’t want that for them. I don’t want that for me. I want to finally start living. Thank you for reading, and getting to the end.

Yesterday, SGT McCoy met a man by the name of Dan Williams, age:57, sitting in front of Wendy’s in Horn Lake. He was down on his luck and was hungry. SGT McCoy walked him inside and offered to buy the man lunch. The Wendy’s Management would not let the deputy pay, because they covered Mr. Williams’ meal instead!
SGT McCoy sat down and ate lunch with Mr. Williams. He found out that Mr. Williams had no money or phone and has been catching rides from Ohio in an attempt to get down to Monroe, Louisiana to be with family.
SGT McCoy could tell that Mr. Williams had a good heart and wanted to help him, so he got with Deputies Brea, Garrett, and Andrews. They all pulled money out of their own pockets and pitched in to buy Mr. Williams an $89.00 Greyhound bus ticket to get home, along with an additional $60.00 for some food and necessities. SGT McCoy later said that Mr. Williams broke down and cried as he was dropping him off at the bus station in Memphis, TN. Mr. Williams looked over to SGT McCoy and told him, “Out of all of the people that reached out to help me in my time of need, it was the cops. Thank you!!”
This is not a one time incident….These random acts of kindness happen everyday across this county and our nation with law enforcement officers reaching out to help those in need, but most of these good deeds go unnoticed because that’s our job and that’s what we do. We are proud to protect and serve you!
