❛ you’re lucky you got away with only a scratch. ❜ (Thor)
Tumblr media
In the dimly lit loft above the League's hangar, Thor sat in his chair, gaze fixed on his former lover. C'allie, was perched atop his cluttered desk, her boot shoving at him playfully as her tail swished about.
With a sly smile she locked eyes with him and purred, "You're lucky you got away with only a scratch. Think those skills of yours need some polishing."
Thor leaned to the side, nipping at his nail, his face a mask of indifference as he replied, "Luck had naught to do with it, lass. Ah know what A'm doin'."
Her ears twitched with amusement as she teased him further still, "That you do, which is why it's such a pity you seem to have swapped teams." C'allie couldn't help but let out a small laugh as Thor flipped her off. How she loved getting under his skin, even after all these years. Slowly a mischievous grin took hold as she climbed down from the desk, leaning against the armrest of Thor's chair, her gaze back on his and voice lowered. "So, tell me, did you get it?", she asked.
His lips curled into a faint smirk as he shrugged casually, folding his arms behind his head and leaning back. "Aye, but Ah'll not tell ye how lass. There's secrets a man keeps close ta his chest."
She countered his unwillingness to spill with a proper pout, "Well somebody needs to get laid. You used to give me all the juicy details!" C'allie playfully rolled her eyes, trailing her nails down Thor's chest before turning and sauntering off down the stairs. "I'm off, Zale's cooking tonight! Later handsome." Thor waited until he'd heard the hangar door close. Moving then, he plopped himself down on the sofa and lit up a cigarette as he stared up into the night sky through the glass ceiling above.
Reluctant as he was to admit it, the duskwolf found it hard to feel everything was lost when he still had people like C'allie to count among friends. Thor's brows furrowed then. The hangar was so quiet. Too quiet. Where in the Seven Hells was everyone? Saiko? Grey? Doc? Red? Had he missed some job or a night out? So much for keeping a low profile. He'd give it another day before pulling the Captain card. There was work to be done after all.
@thefreelanceangel thank you again for this prompt. Had a good time with it. Hope I did C'allie justice.

“Ha ha,” C’allie said, rolling her eyes at Anna’s gesture. She ignored the viera’s huff and climbed onto the counter separating the alchemical lab from the rest of the basement. “What’re you workin’ on?”
Ears flicking rapidly to dispel her irritation, Anna drew a slow breath, pointedly did not fling something at C’allie and turned back to her diagrams. “Something to keep our errant Xaela in line.”
Scooting along the counter, C’allie leaned forward, peering at the tabletop. “...you’re making Seifer a cock ring?”
Laughter broke from Anna, despite her annoyance. “I’m considering it, actually,” she said, picking up the large, smooth ring of manasilver. Although she wouldn’t say aloud that C’allie’s fairly accurate guess impressed her, Anna did bestow a mark of favor by turning to show the ring to C’allie directly. “You’re right about the purpose in a basic manner, but this one isn’t for Seifer.”
...really not a bad idea, though...
“Oh, gonna ring the big Xaela?” C’allie felt in her vest, pulled out a bag of popcorn and sat on the counter, neatly folding her legs before shoving a handful of popcorn in her mouth. “Keepin’ him limp unless you want him?”
“No, but the possibility of doing such will likely keep him fairly pliant,” Anna said, rubbing the ring between her palms. Nodding towards the complicated band of thavnairian leather, studded with manasilver, Anna tossed the ring into the air and caught it. “I’m merely planning ahead to avoid problems in the future. Hence the collar for Seifer’s new pet.”
C’allie grinned, licking butter from her lips. “The little Au Ra? She’s hot. Think he’d mind if I borrowed her?”
Anna snorted. “Sort that out between the two of you,” she said, laying the ring back onto the table. “And quiet down. I can’t afford the aether required to do this more than once without leaving the house for a meal.”
“Need a snack? I can pop out and hunt around down the street. Shouldn’t be too hard to lure someone back here for you to ride.”
Nails tapping on the parchment, Anna considered briefly, shook her head. “Perhaps later if this doesn’t take. The sigils here are different from those I’m familiar with.” An ear swung, turning towards C’allie. “And take that popcorn out of here if you’re going to keep eating. Your crunching is loud and interfering with my concentration.”
With a laugh, C’allie popped onto her feet. One hand on Anna’s shoulder, she leaned in closely enough to lick the viera’s throat before bouncing down to the floor. “I’ll go keep an eye out for your snack, just in case you end up wanting one,” C’allie said, grinning as she skipped out the door.
Gaze focused on the sigils etched into the manasilver, Anna nodded absently. “Mmmhmm... Whatever you say.”

"I didn't find a free company membership or a Grand Company identification card in her belongings."
"She came in alive, that's better than most could expect. Did you trim off all the burnt hair?"
"More of it than I thought I'd need to, but it really was damaged badly. It looks like the thick fur on her tail saved her from any severe burns there, but that ear isn't looking particularly good."
"Once she's fully conscious, we'll ask about next of kin."
Tumblr media
"Did the Maelstrom lieutenant say if anyone else survived that explosion?"
"Several, yes. They weren't as badly injured so they went to the public clinic. Check the schedule, please. I'll need to meet the ship from Sharlayan when it arrives, they have those experimental burn ointments we've been waiting for."
"Unless she wakes up, we should be fine without you for the afternoon. I can always send word to the Arcanists' Guild to see if they have anyone available, too."
Tumblr media
"While I'm at the docks, I'll inquire about any missing persons. With that tattoo and the way her tail likely looked before the explosion, it shouldn't be too hard to identify her."
"I just want to know how she got in the hold to begin with. I used to sail, I know how heavy those doors are and how well they're locked. Maybe she's a criminal! Or a thief the Maelstrom's been trying to catch!"
"You sound far too excited by that prospect."
"...well, the last patients we had were an alchemist that dumped acid on his foot and two Maelstrom privates who got stabbed. We don't usually get anything this interesting."

She'd not gone out, leaving behind all familial responsibilities and loving ties, in years now. And while C'allie absolutely intended to return to her home, to her spouses and children, to those who were undoubtedly becoming anxious at her absence...
...part of her relished this brief regression to her years of self-reliant adventuring, when she'd answered only to her master and even then pitted herself against him in a thousand small ways.
Fully aware that numerous lectures were awaiting her when she stepped through the door of the house in Shirogane, C'allie only hoped that she'd be able to return to them with Roronji's head safely separated from his shoulders.
Sooner rather than later.

Some vacations go better than others, but she can always count on Thrav to take care of her. As the first of her spouses to ever see her physically injured, he's always the one she goes to when she can't carry herself any further.
Tumblr media
It's rare that she needs him to finish the fight off for her, but Thrav always does.
Tumblr media
And she can rest, knowing he'll finish what she started.

"Seeing you like this is a rare treat."
Sweat soaked his hairline, a few streaks cutting through the soot on his face. Tiny black specks marred the leather apron, showing where sparks were flung up from his tapping hammer, and the acrid smells of the Goldsmiths' Guild rose even above the sweat-soaked cotton and leather he wore.
The dull edge of the barrel dug into the back of her thighs, adding another layer of ache on top of everything else she felt. Aetherical healing did quite a bit, but she'd not lingered long enough for them to finish up everything.
He reached up and cupped her face, leather glove hot against her skin, and carefully tipped her jaw up. "Look at me."
Tumblr media
C'allie did.
"What happened? And why did you come here? To me?"
"Roronji."
His face hardened immediately. The fingertips against the side of her face tensed, pressing to her flesh, before he caught himself. "Was he going after you specifically?"
"Lyngnagl."
"...did you reach out to Mags?"
She rubbed her bare arms. Ul'dah wasn't known for a particularly cold climate, but the inner city didn't feel the desert sun in the same way. During the day, it became mildly warm. At night, it bordered on frigid if it wasn't on the ground level. Around them, the air felt too cold.
"She's dead," C'allie muttered.
"When?"
"A year back."
His thumb carefully moved over her cheekbone, pushing jagged locks of hair away from her skin. "Roronji?"
"Likely. Kadiar said a mining accident." C'allie's tail carefully moved, curling over her scraped knee. "He doesn't know anything."
"She didn't tell him?"
"No."
"You didn't tell them?"
Faces flicked through her mind. C'allie felt her left ear try to move when she winced, lopping against her hair. "No."
"Anything?"
"No. How could I?" She paused. "They know ... most of everything else. As much as is safe for them to know." She licked her dry lips. "They don't know about you."
He didn't say anything to that. How could he? The last time they'd come face to face, he'd shot her through the abdomen and she'd broken a blade off in his back. Mags and Lyngnagl'd both been alive, and in love. Roronji'd argued half the night about what they should do, only for that argument to spiral into what'd sent them all (bleeding) in separate directions. Who'd want to tell a family about that?
"Lyngnagl dead. Mags dead." He exhaled at last. "That explains why you came to me." C'allie's gaze shifted. His hand on her face exerted gentle pressure. "Look at me."
Tumblr media
"If you'd taken this to Kugane," Osric Yar said calmly, "I likely would've helped Roronji hunt you down." His thumb ran lightly across her cheekbone before moving to her hanging ear. "Come. I'll tell the guild master I have a family emergency and we'll start piecing things together. Hm?"

Her ear rang.
No matter how she pressed it or massaged it, despite the pain manipulating it caused, her ear rang.
When she took her hand away, the ear hung limp against her hair. She'd felt the cartilage delicately, found the crack, pushed it and locked her jaw against the urge to scream.
Now she just sat with her head resting against her hand, feeling rainwater soak through the heavy coat she'd stolen.
Tumblr media
Wet stone leeched the heat from the thin slippers she'd found beneath the clinic bed, numbed her bare ass despite the fold of wet black wool she sat on.
She'd tried to move her tail, to flick it as usual, and stopped that foolishness immediately. A cracked vertebrae bound to be the most likely culprit and she knew immobility and time would mend that. Enough bandages covered her; she could use one to bind her tail.
The fur would grow back, most likely.
All of the scrapes, the slowly darkening bruises, the burn covering half of her back... They would heal. Had, in fact, to a large degree. She didn't know the clinic that she'd woken up in, but they clearly had an aetherical healer on call.
And she had a kami or something looking out for her.
C'allie knew.
She shouldn't have survived that explosion.
Tumblr media
Perhaps the most frustrating thing to her was how this particular situation hamstrung her. Not just physically. The injuries hurt, but surely the damage wasn't permanent.
Her left hand shifted, touched her limp hanging ear, and then returned to running through her chaotic hair.
She couldn't go home. She couldn't even tell her partners or her family about this.
Not if it was Roronji.
And from what she remembered seeing... The whole reason she'd snuck onto that ship in the first place...
"...fuck."

ok but does the Kyho actually surf because I think a surfer clan is VERY fun!!
...well, now they do...
Tumblr media
Not all of them do it well, however.
Tumblr media
C'kyho's really just there to encourage his children. (And laugh his ass off when they eat sand.)
Tumblr media
Neither C'allie nor C'ilo have surfed before, and so they had a few milliseconds before hitting the water to realize "good at many things" doesn't mean good at everything.
Tumblr media
C'ivvi, on the other hand, took to it like a duck, not a desert catte.
Tumblr media
Her twin sister C'elli opted to just sunbathe and watch with their father, but she found her siblings failure to balance on a stable board hilarious.
