im sort of thinking about how Max was introduced and how she seemed like a love interest plot for lucas and dustin, and ultimately of course she and lucas do wind up together but the interesting thing is. dustin approaches her like she is a love interest! like she is there to pick a boy and date him and that is the point of her. whereas lucas likes her too but he’s like “listen you need to understand all of the crap we are dealing with if you are going to become part of our weird extended little friend family.” he brings her into the plot and the whole time she is bringing her own plot with her and she is a love interest who is always at all times more than a love interest and now she’s arguably more of a main character than either of the boys who started out vying for her attention.
