All Rise Season One Ep. One Thoughts
Spoilers Ahead
Tumblr media
This is my first court-based show besides the first few seasons of Bull, which I will talk about here as well. I did decide to watch the show for two main reasons. 1. it was a new show on Max that I hadn't seen before and it was a case of the week style show that I love and 2. it has the actress of Catherine Willows from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in it. I will definitely give my thoughts on CSI here, as I love the show. But for All Rise, episode one was a great first episode of a court-based drama as it is not typically what one expects for a procedural show to focus solely on the court. The characters all have great chemistry with each other, and those that seem to have tension clearly do, and it doesn't seem forced as much as compared to the tension between Jess LeCroix and Kenny Crosby from FBI: Most Wanted Season One early episodes. Judge Carmichael has just been appointed to Judge, and this episode goes over her first court case no longer as an attorney but now as a Judge. The case presented before is fun as it looks at both police corruption and witnesses protecting families as they feel they have no other choice. The other case being presented by the Judge's friend Mark, the DA, is super fun. The defendant does a great job defending himself until Mark convinces him to shave the beard, which gets the conviction. While it was an underhanded trick by the DA to get a guilty verdict and not a great representation of a DA. It goes against the typical procedural trope of the defense being dirty players in the courtroom, so it was fun to see it subverted to the DA. I think the show from this episode has great potential, and I am interested in where it goes from here. All of the characters were great, and none of them felt over the top or immediately dislikable, which is good.

All Rise: Season 3 Review
I’m so... vastly... disappointed in this season, to be quite frank.
I adored the first two seasons, the show quickly shot up to be my favorite currently ongoing TV show back then.
And even during those two seasons, I spent them in a state of tense suspense about Lola and Mark; I’ve seen what heteronormativity does to a perfectly fine TV show where the man and the woman were perfect as friends (looking at New Amsterdam in particular here). I feared they may kiss/cheat or that the show would just kill off Lola’s husband, give them a bit of a mourning phase and then make Mark/Lola a ship (again, looking at New Amsterdam here).
So that didn’t happen in season 3 either but damn they somehow managed to something worse?
Not only that they recast Robin with an actor who has... zero... chemistry with Lola, just at all, no, they newly introduce the “college sweetheart” and we spend the majority of the season watching Lola pine for this new character, have sex dreams (and, what’s infinitely worse, marriage and kids dreams) about him and then we end the season with her kissing that guy?
Which, the hypocrisy of that is driving me up the wall on its own if we consider the slut shaming that she did with Mark, when Mark got kissed against his will? She kept calling his lips slutty, she literally slut-shamed him for a non-consensual kiss that he shut down after. I always hated that, because she was supposed to be Mark’s best friend and her behavior around that was incredibly gross, made worse by the fact that she did not slut-shame her other best friend, aka the woman who did the kissing, the woman working with Mark’s girlfriend at the time, knowing full-well that Mark was in a relationship. But her? No, not her, Lola only slut-shamed Mark.
And now she’s the one kissing other guys. Sure, he was the one initiating the kiss, but so damn slow she could have backed out. And after all that pining.
I hate this. I hate nothing more than cheating plot-lines and now you are ruining this character that I love and this show that I love and it’s pissing me off beyond the moon.
And on top of that? The way  the queer rep on the show got treated this season was just nasty.
I always loved Lisa’s character and was so happy when she finally got a girlfriend. And then this season sees her written off the show, which also obviously writes her girlfriend off the show, losing not one but two queer characters. Sure, Lisa had some special guest star moments, but it’s just not the same and Georgia didn’t come back at all.
The season 2 finale saw Sam and Ness kiss each other and I got excited about them doubling the wlw representation, and with two major characters this time around too!
And season 3 saw Sam written off entirely; Lisa at least had the guest appearances but Sam’s just... gone. And with her that entire plotline. Queerness does not come up around Nessa at all... if Nessa is even in it, because she was barely in this season too.
And then we end the season with a literal knife to the gut for Ness, their one remaining queer character (not that it’s been acted upon beyond that one kiss in season 2), leaving her potentially to die and be written off the show too.
Which, chances are quite high, considering that this finale left us with three majorly injured characters (all... characters of color, if I might add that). And it looks like Luke is going to pull through, so there’s about a 50/50 chance for Ness if they need the drama of her death or if they let her live.
I just... I’m just disappointed all around?
They went in their queer rep from 4 to... zero, basically, with nothing queer happening on-screen at all (i.e. dates, kisses, meeting someone, heck, just talking about their sexuality/partners).
And they chose to make their leading lady cheat on her husband, after spending a season of straining her relationship with said husband - which was, might I add, actually a really truly beautiful relationship in seasons 1 and 2.
This is genuinely the worse turn I’ve seen any show that’s been picked up after a cancellation take.

I haven't been really up to date with the things that aespa has been doing, but I got on a little bit of a binge these last two days and Girls slaps SO HARD. I loved that Karina described it as being influenced by TVXQ, because that was really the first reference that popped into my head. I love how much of a connection their sound and looks have to 1st gen, the futuristic looks, and you can see that they are inspired a lot by BOA, SES, TVXQ. That was such a fun time in kpop, i love it
yes!!!!!! thank u for also seeing the vision!!!!!!! love love love girls i have another ask where i'm gonna talk about it more bc its so fun and i love how throwback-y it is to first gen, like it was a continuation of the visual themes set by dreams come true! one of my fave cbs of last year for sure

My thoughts on All Rise S1 Ep 5 Spoilers Ahead
Tumblr media
This episode is wedding day where multiple couples go to get married. This is Judge Carmichael's first wedding day. The couple needs to be married as the wife is in labor which does annoy me as the pregnancy trope is overdone in procedurals but instead of being a stress tactic it is for a marriage scene. Lola decides to go see what court costs are and then gets ambushed by an angry citizen. The woman is angry about her husband being thrown in jail and now her son is up on charges. The Church is shown is a good light pretty heavy handedly in the episode.
Emily is dealing with a case involving the Catholic Church and stealing. The defendant is a nun but does have dyed hair which is feared to be a detractor for her in front of the jury. Emily has an issue with her engagement ring being asked to give back to but got stuck on her finger. It is also discovered that Emily had a rosary as a child from baptism thus also connecting her to the Catholic Church. The defendant is covering up for another nun who is guilty but because of her faith she is unwilling to throw Sister Miranda under the bus. Emily is dealing with her religious guilt over her divorce and breaking her promise in front of god. We get to see more of Emily and Lola's friendship as they discuss Emily's guilt.
Mark is dealing with a dine and dasher who leaves men with large bills. The court case is between Mark and his rival and framed as a love interest Amy Quinn. The defendant Margo is flirting with the Judge and the Judge responds to the flirting with flirting back. It is a preliminary hearing so it is for the State to make their case.
This was a difficult episode as you understand where Sister Phoebe is coming in regards to defending Sister Miranda and her faith is common in individuals. Mark got crushed in court by Quinn as a result of his witnesses being asked argumentative questions.

The Best News of Last Week
⚡ - Goodbye Fossil Fuels, Hello Renewables: The Energizing News You Need
1. Fungi discovered that can eat plastic in just 140 days
Tumblr media
Australian scientists have successfully used backyard mould to break down one of the world's most stubborn plastics — a discovery they hope could ease the burden of the global recycling crisis within years.
It took 90 days for the fungi to degrade 27 per cent of the plastic tested, and about 140 days to completely break it down, after the samples were exposed to ultraviolet rays or heat. We really see a solution within five years, according to environmental scientist Paul Harvey, an expert on global plastic pollution.
2. Topeka Zoo welcomes new African Lion as female sprouts mane
Tumblr media
The Topeka Zoo has welcomed a new African Lion to its pride, a male, as one of its females started to sprout a mane following the 2021 passing of the pride’s last male.
The Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center announced on Thursday, April 13, that Tatu, a 4-year-old African Lion, has arrived in the Capital City. He comes to Topeka from the Denver Zoo and his arrival marks a time of growth for the zoo.
3. This barber opens his shop on his day off for children with special needs – and all of their haircuts are free
Tumblr media
On his day off, Vernon Jackson still goes to work, opening up his Cincinnati barber shop, Noble Barber and Beauty, for VIP clients: children with special needs.
It's something he's done since 2021. "I was hearing so many horror stories that parents were going through with other barber shops and just the barbers or stylists having no patience with their child," Jackson told CBS News. "So I figured I would compromise by coming in on my day off so there were there would be no other barbers or stylists in the shop and I could give them the full attention that they need."
4. Renewables break energy records signalling ‘end of the fossil age’
Tumblr media
Experts are calling time on the fossil age as new analysis shows wind and solar power produced a record amount of the world’s electricity last year.
The renewables generated 12 per cent of global electricity in 2022, up from 10 per cent the previous year, according to the report from clean energy think tank Ember. Last year, solar was the fastest-growing source of electricity for the 18th year in a row, rising by 24 per cent from 2021.
5. New nuclear medicine therapy cures human non-hodgkin lymphoma in preclinical model
Tumblr media
A new nuclear medicine therapy can cure human non-Hodgkin lymphoma in an animal model A single dose of the radioimmunotherapy, was found to quickly eliminate tumour cells and extend the life of mice injected with cancerous cells for more than 221 days (the trial endpoint), compared to fewer than 60 days for other treatments and just 19 days in untreated control mice.
To explain it in simple terms because this is so freaking cool: There is a radioactive atom attached to a drug. The target cell eats the drug and the energy coming off of the radioactive atom kills the target cell
6. Colorado passes first US right to repair legislation for farmers
Tumblr media
Colorado farmers will be able to legally fix their own equipment next year, with manufacturers including Deere & Co obliged to provide them with manuals for diagnostic software and other aids, under a measure passed by legislators in the first U.S. state to approve such a law.
Equipment makers have generally required customers to use their authorized dealers for repairs to machines such as combines and tractors.

App Dummy
Tumblr media
*PING!*
Pulling the phone from his pocket, Mark smirked as he scrolled through his recent notifications. After months of tweaking and reconfiguring, the official CrissBaby Diaper App appeared fully operational. What better way to provide ease of control over CrissBaby’s entire product library than by allowing them to sync with mobile devices? No more fiddling around with a half-dozen remotes. Soon, control of all CrissBaby vibrators, robotic nursery aids, auto-locking fetish gear, and more would be paired with the convenience of a smartphone.
However, perhaps the feature that Mark was more proud of was the update he was allowed to make to every line of CrissBaby-branded diapers. Each and every nappy, from the thinnest of CrissBaby Pull-ups to the bulky might of the Super Absorber XXX, would soon house an array of microsensors capable of detecting all forms of diaper usage. Those pesky Littles won’t be able to hide those accidents anymore.
And which of those aforementioned pesky Littles would get to test out Mark’s latest and greatest innovation? Why, it would be none other than his darling baby girl and dutiful product tester, Shelby “Rocky” Rockwell. All it took was swapping out her usual CrissBaby padding for one with the microsensors embedded and voila! Now, he could keep track of how much of a good girl Rocky was being anytime, anywhere!
“Uh, Mark? Everything good?” said Rocky, catching a glimpse of Mark’s gleefully sadistic expression. It was a look she was all too familiar with. He was up to something, spiking both her anxiety and arousal simultaneously. Not wanting to masturbate to quell her rising lust for a second time today, she pushed on her bladder to stem her stimulation.
*PING!*
Mark’s phone once again, this time catching Rocky’s attention. “What do you keep giggling at on your phone?” she said, raising an eyebrow at how intently he was staring at his phone screen.
“Oh, nothing important,” replied Mark, snickering softly as a new “WET” alert popped up along the bottom of his screen. Rocky would surely be upsetti spaghetti once she found out the truth but for now, this new invention would be his kinky, little secret.

Eugenics is still the rule of the fucking day.
"People 65-plus and people who are immunocompromised should strongly consider masking during flu, RSV, COVID season while in indoor public spaces," said Dr. Céline Gounder, a CBS News medical contributor and editor-at-large for public health at KFF Health News. "And for everyone else — it all depends on what their risk tolerance is."
"Depends on what their risk tolerance is." Are you fucking kidding me?
CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook says he likes to use the "weather report analogy" for the general public. "What's the weather out today? If it's raining, you will probably want to bring an umbrella. If you are in an area where there is an uptick in airborne respiratory infections like COVID, flu or RSV, you may want to take extra precautions, such as wearing a high-quality mask in indoor public spaces," he said.
People should be masking up before there's a fucking "uptick." That's how you prevent a fucking "uptick". Especially considering testing isn't the metric the people in power are going by any more, but hospitalizations, which are always going to be lagging indicators. By the time the "uptick" is registered these diseases are going to have been present and active for days or even weeks.
After COVID hospitalizations climbed nearly 22% this week, the CDC is predicting further increases over the coming month as new variants spread. This replaces previous projections from the agency that admissions would "remain stable or have an uncertain trend."
Oh, cool, so things are already bad and the are predicting that things are going to get worse, but the decision is being made to not do a fucking thing about it.
In a 2021 "60 Minutes" interview, virologist Paul Duprex explained the current (and future) emergence of new variants — a concept applicable to the current situation. "Is there anything we can do to stop the virus from mutating so much?" LaPook asked Duprex at the time. "We can certainly stop it making as many mutations by stopping it infecting as many people - if we block its transmission, if we wear a mask, if we get vaccinated, if we do social distancing," Duprex said.
None of which will be happening because "Covid Is Over" and doing any of the necessary things to prevent it are voluntary at best.
After news broke about the BA.2.86 variant earlier this month, the CDC said the agency's advice on protecting yourself from COVID-19 — which includes wearing a high-quality mask among other recommendations listed on its website — "remains the same."
Oh alright let's see what the CDC recommends
In addition to basic health and hygiene practices, like handwashing, CDC recommends some prevention actions at all COVID-19 hospital admission levels, which include:
Ugh. At least its recommendations implicitly admit that covid is airborne.
Still, some experts fear it could be hard to convince Americans to don masks again even if COVID cases continue to rise. Dr. Danielle Ompad, an epidemiologist at the NYU School of Global Public Health, said "It's a bit like putting the genie back in the bottle." Still, she has personally started wearing a mask again recently in crowded places, where the risk of exposure is greater.
Huh, I wonder why it would be hard to convince people to mask up again. Who's responsible for letting the genie out of the fucking bottle? Maybe they should be taken to task for this fucking decision?
"If I were with people who aren't public health-trained, I would wear a mask, particularly in crowded situations, because I really don't have time for COVID. Mask mandates are challenging because they make people really bent out of shape out of proportion to the ask."
What people are getting "really bent out of shape" by mask mandates? Just "people" huh? No specific people at all? Okay then.
"Who wants to get sick while on vacation?" she says. "If you're going to be in a crowded public place — the subway, an airplane, a crowded theater — those are the kind of places I would at least consider wearing a mask."
Hey maybe these fucking super-spreader places shouldn't be open especially with multiple variants spreading across the country with no mask mandates in place.
Though increased cases and hospitalizations are prompting precautions, Gounder says she doesn't see another lockdown in our future. "That ship has sailed. Has sailed for years now," she said.
"That ship" just sailed itself, huh? Another development with no cause and no active participant? Just up and sailed on its own, did it? And there's no one to sail it back? Man, that's crazy.
