#CHRISTOPHER WEARING BUCKS CLOTHES TO SLEEP WOULD NOT LEAVE MY HEAD

Hello :)
For the five sentences things you've reblogged, I propose to you for Buddie
"Hey Buck, care to explain to me why you're naked on my couch?"
So this got away from me. Oops 😂
It's late, really late, and they should go to bed but Christopher is at a sleepover and they've both just got home from a night out at the bar with The 118andCo so before he calls it a night and lets Buck sleep on the couch like he's done countless of times before, he leaves a drunken Buck in his living room to give them both some water.
When he leaves the kitchen he nearly drops the bottles of water at the sight it front of him.
Buck is sitting on his couch, head leaned back as he stares hazily at the ceiling, and the kicker? He's stark naked. Like completely naked from head to toe. And to top it off his legs are spread wide open for Eddie to see clearly even at this angle.
Eddie quickly looks up at the ceiling, trying to calm down and remind himself that he's seen Buck naked countless of times at the firehouse before. But it's just never been at his home, in his living room. Never been so…intimate.
"Hey Buck, care to explain to me why you're naked on my couch?"
Buck chuckles and Eddie has to look down to see his expression and yep the man is drunk, drunk.
"It was hot and uncomfortable so I just had to take my clothes off so I wouldn't be hot anymore." He giggles. "You're hot too, Eds. But don't worry you're comfortable."
He winks. He fucking winks.
Eddie knows he shouldn't think anything of it since his best friend seems to be plastered – seriously how many drinks did he have? – but he's a bit tipsy himself so he blames it on that when he asks, "You think I'm hot?"
"Oh yeah, the hottest. Like it's unfair how hot you are. It should be illegal."
Eddie snorts. "You're drunk."
"Doesn't mean it isn't true." He sing-songs bouncing his legs back and forth and Eddie has to look away again.
"Am I that repulsive?" Buck asks in a low and sad voice.
Eddie immediately catches his gaze and he looks hurt. "No, why would you think that?"
"Because you can't even look at me." He pouts.
"Yeah, because you're naked."
"Because, I'm repulsive."
Eddie doesn't care anymore and crosses the distance between them so he can sit next to his best friend. "Buck, look at me."
He does as he's told.
"You are not repulsive. Where is this coming from?"
"Because you won't look at me." Buck repeats, looking like a kicked puppy.
"Yeah, because I'm trying to be respectful. You've apparently had more drinks than I have."
This seems funny to the other man. "That's your fault." He pokes Eddie's stomach.
"How's it my fault?"
"Because you're so hot and sexy in that tight jeans and Henley combo and I was," he giggles again, "thirsty."
He's just drunk, Eddie has to remind himself, he doesn't mean this.
"Buck, I always wear that."
"Which is why I'm always so thiiirrstyyy. But tonight was extra hard." He giggles once more. "Hehe, hard."
From his periphery he can see something being very hard indeed.
Eddie gulps.
"Hey, Eds?" Buck asks, breaking him from that certain freak out, his voice is low again and he look so timid and scared and all Eddie wants to do is wrap him up in a hug and guard him from all his fears.
"Yeah?"
"Do you think I'm hot?"
Eddie snorts. "What?"
"Do you think I'm hot? It's a simple question, Edmundo."
It's Eddie's turn to poke Buck's stomach at the usage of his full name.
He knows he shouldn't, but he's tipsy so he indulges. Besides, this is just like common knowledge.
"Yes, Buck, I think you're hot. You're like a Greek God."
"I am?" Buck asks in awe like this wasn't a universal truth.
"You are. Everyone knows you're hot Buck."
"Yeah, but you think I'm hot." Buck tells him, eyes pouring into him. "It's different."
"Why is it different?"
"Because it's you, Eds."
Eddie stares at him for a moment before clearing his throat. "We should get you some clothes."
Buck petulantly shakes his head and folds his arms. "I don't wanna."
Eddie laughs. "And why not?"
"They're itchy and too tight."
They definitely were tight alright, the buttons on Buck's shirt looking all night like they were going to pop out and hurt someone's eye at any second.
"How about I give you a pair of my gym shorts and that hoodie you left here?"
The thing is, Buck's left at least three hoodies here that he tends to wear when he's staying over but never actually takes back home with him.
Buck comically seems to mull this over, his pecs flexing and unflexing as he does and Eddie tries not to get lost in how good his tattoos look or the way his muscles tenses and intenses as he contemplates this or at–
And yep. Still hard.
After what feels like forever, Buck finally nods in agreement. And that's all Eddie needs before he practically throws a water bottle at Buck to drink and rushes off the couch, dashing towards his room to get the clothes.
Once the door closes he leans against it and takes several deep breaths. He can do this. He can be strong. He can handle a naked Buck calling him hot and being all adorable and –
The point is he can do this and this means nothing. Buck is just drunk. That's all.
With that determination in mind, he quickly grabs the clothes and heads back to the living room.
Buck is already half asleep, so Eddie helps him put on his clothes.
"Hey, Eds?" Buck asks once his eyes are closed as he nuzzles his nose against his pillow.
"Yeah?" Eddie answers, hovering above him, not ready to leave just yet.
"I love you."
And, oh.
Oh.
"I love you too." He whispers into the night.

When Buck takes care of Christopher and Eddie he temporarily moves in with them and quickly realizes how attached Chris has gotten to him. The first time he notices is just a few hours into his first 24 hour shift after running out of vacation days. Eddie texts him a photo of Chris wearing Buck's LAFD hoodie "because it smells like Buck and I miss him."

“Last night your feet were really cold, so I found some of your socks and put them on you." For the prompts list
a/n: ok so. at some point i'm gonna combine this with the last one i did and make it an actual fic but until then if you want context for this read my last one (don't have to). also i changed the prompt just slightly hope that's okay
Buck's head pounds before he even opens his eyes. So he doesn't risk it. He keeps his eyes squeezed shut, and lifts both hands to dig his palms into his head, trying to rub away the tension.
He's hungover.
Great.
Not as bad as the vodka, the voice in his head says. He tells it to shut up as he risks opening his eyes. Squinting at the brightness of the world around him, he realizes two things in quick succession: 1) he's not in his own room and 2) he's not on Eddie's couch. Which begs the question of where is he?
Buck pushes himself up slightly, looking around the room. A small frown draws his brows together. This is... this is Eddie's room. Which means this is Eddie's bed. Something in Buck twists.
He and Eddie are close. There's no question about that. Eddie and Chris are probably the two most important people in his life. They share a lot. Clothes? Sure. Keys to each other houses? Absolutely. There's not a lot of things that are private where Buck and Eddie are concerned. But well. Buck's never actually been in Eddie's bed.
Like. Slept in it. Done anything more than sit on top of the comforter with Eddie. He's never really been in Eddie's bed.
Even when Eddie was in the hospital, Buck always stayed on the couch. It felt... wrong, somehow, to be in Eddie's room without him there. He definitely thought sleeping in his bed was a line he should leave uncrossed.
But now, here he is. In Eddie's bed. Without Eddie. Buck doesn't know if he's relieved or disappointed. Relieved. Definitely relieved. Because if he' anything other than relieved... that would be a problem. So yeah, Buck is definitely, definitely relieved.
He absolutely doesn't wish he'd woken up with Eddie's warm body pressed against his. Nope. Not in the slightest.
Buck shakes his head and sits all the way up, wincing slightly at the pounding in his head. He swings his legs over the side of the bed and frowns. He's wearing socks. And they're not his. The rest of what he's wearing belongs to him. His own sweatpants and t-shirt, left in a drawer of Eddie's bureau that permanently belongs to Buck now. But the socks aren't his. Okay then.
He stands up and walks to the door, walking lightly in case anyone's still sleeping. A burst of Chris's laughter followed by Eddie shushing him quells any worries Buck has, though, and he makes his way towards the kitchen.
The sight that greets him makes him so soft he's slightly disgusted with himself for a moment. Chris and Eddie are at the table eating cereal and talking quietly, laughing. It's just so... domestic. Affection swells in Buck, so strong he almost can't breath. He loves these two so much it's insane.
"Buck!" Chris sees him. Buck pushes off the doorway he was leaning against and walks over to them as Eddie looks over his shoulder.
"Mornin' bud," Buck greets, ruffling Chris's hair as he walks past him, settling into the seat opposite Eddie. "How'd you sleep?"
"Good. But Dad woke me up. You got to sleep in."
"Trust me, Chris," Eddie chuckles, "Buck needed the sleep." The teasing twinkle in Eddie's eyes almost melts Buck on the spot.
"Hey you don't get to look like this without beauty sleep," Buck replies with a grin.
“Which is exactly why Buck needs lots of it.”
“Hey!” Buck protests as Christopher giggles.
“Hello!” Carla calls, the front door swinging open and closed.
“In the kitchen,” Eddie replies as Chris hollers out a greeting. Eddie grabs his and Chris’s empty bowls and takes them to the sink as Carla walks in, nodding in greeting.
“Good morning, boys.”
“Morning Carla!” Chris gives her a toothy grin and Buck, again, melts a little. He also doesn’t miss the fact that Carla didn’t even blink when she saw Buck at the table.
“Ready to go, or do you have to help Dad clean up?”
“I’m ready to go,” Chris answers quickly. Buck laughs and Eddie grins as he sits back down.
“He’s all good. I have Buck to make do the dishes anyway.”
“Oh yay,” Buck deadpans. Chris laughs again and Buck reaches over to muss his hair again. “Have a good day at school. Learn lots of stuff, yeah?”
“You sure that’s a good idea Buck? He’s already smarter than you.”
“Smarter than both of us, actually,” Buck replies. Chris grins at them. Eddie smiles and pulls Chris in to kiss his head.
“Have a good day, kiddo.”
“Can you and Buck pick me up later?”
“Of course.” Buck answers before Eddie has a chance to. “How else are we gonna get to the zoo?”
Chris cheers as Carla starts ushering him out of the house and Buck feels happier than he has in weeks.
“I swear pretty soon that kid’s gonna like you more than me,” Eddie mutters once the front door closes again.
Buck grins at him. “You say that like he doesn’t already.”
Eddie scoffs, laughing slightly. “You’re a shit, y’know that?”
“Yeah but you love it.”
“Oh do I now?”
“Well why the hell else would you put up with it?”
Eddie rolls his eyes and reaches for the cereal box, likely to put it away. Buck slaps his wrist, grabbing the box instead with a pointed look. Eddie holds his hands up in surrender.
Buck stands and grabs a bowl, pouring himself a serving and then placing the box in its cupboard. He pours milk over the fruit loops and then also puts the milk away without a second thought about how naturally he just fits into Eddie’s life.
Sitting back down, he’s about to start eating when he remembers.
“Hey Eddie?”
Eddie’s watching Buck with what can only be described as a fond expression. Buck pointedly ignores the butterflies in his stomach. “Hm?”
“Did you, uh, did you put socks on me?”
Eddie laughs out loud and Buck’s stomach flip-flops. “Yeah, once I got you in bed. You were complaining about your feet being cold and you didn’t leave any here, so I found some of my socks and put them on you.”
“Oh.” That’s all Buck can say. It’s such a small thing, really. It shouldn’t make Buck’s stomach flutter or his heart ache, but it does. Because it’s so... caring that it almost makes Buck sick. It’s not often that Buck has people care for him like that. “Thanks.”
“No problem.”
Actually, Buck thinks as he tries to squash the butterflies, it’s kinda a big problem.

Evan "Buck" Buckley Masterlist
Summary: f/Reader is Christopher's teacher & is the one who saved Christopher during that day. Buck slowly starts to fall for her.
BUCK'S POV:
I left Eddie's place around midnight, and got an Uber home. I couldn't wait to see Y/N again.
She text me her address not too long after we hung up the phone from one another. I could hardly sleep because I was so excited.
I randomly thought of what Eddie said. It made me wonder even more about Y/N, but I will not push it. We all have our own back stories to tell.
I have no idea what time I went to bed at but I did wake up around noon. I realised I had no idea where I should take Y/N for dinner tonight. All the nice places will need reservations.
I decided to call someone who owed me a favour. I called the head chef Daniel, of the The NoMad Rooftop. He always told me if I needed anything, to call him.
I had to call him a couple of times, but he finally picked up. Daniel and I talked for a few moments before I asked him.
"Daniel. I am calling in that favour. I need a reservation for tonight, for around 6:20, for two."
"Let me see what I can do. Just give me a second Buck. I have to check the book first." I heard him yell for the someone to bring him the reservation book. I can hear odd bits of the conversation.
"Hey Buck. I can get you in for 6:30 tonight. It is under the name Evan Buckley."
"Thanks Daniel, I owe you one."
"Buck, no you don't. You saved my Dad's life and I can never repay you for that, but I gotta go. See you tonight. I'll come out and say hi when I get a chance."
"See you Daniel. Thank you once again." Then I ended the call and grabbed something to eat and watched some TV.
Before I knew it, it was always 3:30. I figured I would just get ready. I know I may be early, but I figured I could go to the Fire Station and see everyone. I already have a feeling Eddie opened his big mouth and told everyone. Also Y/N doesn't live that far from the Station as well.
I had a shower and stood infront of my closet trying to pick out the perfect outfit. I can feel myself start to get nervous, but I had to pull myself together. It had had been a long time since I have gone on a date like this, and I just want Y/N to like me.
By the time I was ready, the clock said it was 4:30. I might as well head out now. So I got in my vehicle and drove to the 118 Station.
I parked and got out of my vehicle and walked into the Station. I noticed the time on the wall and it said it was 5:00, so that means everyone is having dinner.
The moment Eddie saw me, he let out a whistle. The team looked up and noticed me standing there.
"Looking good Buck. Got a date I heard tonight." Hen said to me with a big smirk on her face.
"Yeah man, you like nice. You actually own some nice clothes I see." Chim said to me.
I tried to sit down, but Eddie wanted to take a photo and send it to Christoper. So I just put my hands in my pockets and gave him my best model pose.
Tumblr media
I sat next to Bobby and we talked for until it was time for me to leave.
"I gotta get going. I have to pick Y/N up for 6. Our reservations are for 6:30, and you know how traffic can be."
The group said goodbye, and just as I was almost out of ear shot I heard Eddie yell. "REMEMBER WHAT I SAID BUCK." I just raised my hand and waved to let him know I heard him.
I put Y/N's address in the GPS and it took me a total of eight minutes to get to her place. I was just about to get out of the car to go to her apartment to get her, but she beat me to it.
Y/N was walking towards me and she looked breathtaking. Her hair and makeup were simple but her dress was just gorgeous.
Tumblr media
I got out of my vehicle as fast as I could. I met her just as she got to me.
"Y/N you look gorgeous and I mean gorgeous. No angel can compare to you right now." I said to her as I took her one hand in mine and gave her hand a kiss.
"Always a charmer I see Buck." Y/N said to me.
I walked her to the passenger side door and held it open for her. I helped her get in and I closed the door once I made sure she was in the vehicle.
I got in the drives seat and we were on our way to NoMad.
"You look very nice Buck. Blue is diffently your colour."
"Are you trying to flirt with me Y/N?" I asked with a small smile on my face as I quickly looked over at her.
"I was trying but I am telling the truth. You look so nice Buck."
I wanted to blush at her words but I didn't thank God.
We got stuck some traffic just like I said we would, which is fine but I did get nervous that we were going to be late for our reservation.
We made it to the hotel with a few moments to spare. I had Y/N wait in the car as I rushed to her side. I held my arm out to her and she put her arm through mine. I felt butterflies as she stood close to me. I handed my keys to the valet.
We walked inside the hotel and grabbed the elevator to reach the Rooftop restaurant.
"Reservation for two. Under the name Evan Buckley." I said to the hostess.
"Yes, there you are. Please follow me. Chef Daniel made sure your table had the best view of the city."
I heard Y/N let out a small gasp as she saw the view from our table. It was gorgeous.
The two of us sat down and the hostess put our menu's on the table.
"Here are your menus. Your waiter, Eric will be with you momentarily. Enjoy." Y/N and I said thank you.
"Buck, how in the world did you get a reservation for this place? You usually have to make reservations well in advance for this place."
"Well Y/N, I know the Head Chef. He owed me a favour."
Before she could say anything, our waiter Eric came and introduced himself and took our drink order.
"You know the Head Chef?"
"Yes, I called him this after and called in the favour he owed me. Even though when I met him, I insisted that he didn't need to do anything for me, I was just doing my job."
Eric placed our drinks on the table and we told him we still needed some time to look over the menu.
"What did you do Buck?" Y/N asked me as she took a sip of her drink.
"I was out getting coffee for everyone at the Station on my way to work, as it was my turn. I heard a woman scream and I watched as her husband collapsed onto the floor. I rushed over to her, instructed her to call 911 and I started to do CPR on her husband until the paramedics arrived. He was having a cardiac arrest. A few days after that, the same woman came to Fire Station and thanked me for saving her husband's life. Her son was with her when she came and her son is Daniel, the Head Chef."
Eric came over and we told him our orders and I continued my story.
"Daniel gave me his number and told me he owed me and to call him for any thing since I saved his Dad's life. I wasn't going to use the favour but I wanted to take you somewhere nice."
"Ohh Buck, I would of been happy with going to the bar or even to a food court."
I reached across the table and ran my thumb over her knuckles. "Y/N, I know we just met, but I can tell you now, that you truly deserve the world and I am not just saying that because you saved Christopher's life. There is something about you Y/N L/N."

Buck woke up to the sunlight filtering through the window. The other side of the bed was cold, which meant Eddie had been up for a while. Christopher had stayed the night with his Abuela, so it was just the two of them in the house.
Buck made his way downstairs, where he found Eddie sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in an old LAFD academy shirt. The way the shirt was just slightly too big on him instantly told Buck that it was Buck’s shirt.
“Morning.” Buck said, pouring himself a cup of coffee and sitting down at the table beside Eddie. And yep, there was the “Buckley” in faint print above Eddie’s heart. Buck didn’t miss the way it made his heart flip still, even though they’d been together for 4 years now (and had just gotten married 6 months ago). “Sleep well?”
“Yeah, did you?”
“I did.” Buck said. “That shirt looks good on you.”
Eddie flushed a little. “Oh. Sorry about that. I just grabbed the first one in the drawer. I was trying to not wake you up.”
“Never said I didn’t like it,” Buck leaned across the table and stole a kiss. “Besides, it’s kinda hot to see you wearing my clothes. Not gonna lie.”
Eddie’s cheeks flushed a little. “Noted.”
“I just wish I could wear yours a little more, you know.” Buck said. “You know, without stretching them out.”
“Hey, I love it.” Eddie says. “Besides, most of them I’m not wearing anyway, so it’s not a big deal.” He pauses for a minute before looking at Buck. “You really don’t stretch them out so much. I like seeing you in my things. Gives me those ‘he’s mine’ feelings.”
Buck looked at Eddie. “Noted. I’m taking it you haven’t eaten yet?”
“No.” Eddie said. “Again, trying to not wake you up. The smoke alarm would have defeated that purpose.”
They both shared a laugh. “You’re getting better.” Buck said.
“Maybe I’ll master making a full course meal by the time Christopher graduates college and moves out.” Eddie said.
“I’ll always be here to eat it.” Buck said.
“What are your plans for today?” Eddie asked, changing the subject. He didn’t want to think about Christopher getting too old to need them (which in turn made him think about him and Buck getting older too).
“Didn’t really have any. What you got in mind?”
“Let’s go get Chris and take a family day to the zoo?” Eddie suggested.
“That sounds like a wonderful plan.” Buck said. “You gonna change clothes?”
“Not unless you want me to.” Eddie said. Those words hit Buck like a two by four to the chest. Eddie didn’t have a problem with everyone seeing him out in his husband’s shirt.
“I don’t.” Buck said, coming to sit in Eddie’s lap. “I think that’s really hot actually, and I’ll show you how much I like it later.”
“Or you could now?” Eddie asked. “I mean, since our son will be here tonight and we can’t do all the things we want to do to each other…”
“Ok, bedroom.” Buck didn’t need to think twice.
A little while later, they were both fully showered and on their way to get Christopher (Buck had found one of Eddie’s old academy shirts too and put it on- they almost weren’t able to make it out of house when Eddie realized that; Buck had promised Eddie a reward though if he was good during the outing).
They were at the zoo when they ran into Hen, Karen, and Denny. Karen and Hen shared knowing looks with each other after seeing the shirts, but they didn’t say anything (Hen just raised her eyebrows at Buck, who grinned like the cat that had eaten the canary). It was Christopher who came up with the zinger that made them all laugh until their sides hurt.
“My dads are a married couple who wear each other’s clothes in public.” He said, looking at Denny. “They are so gross, even if they think it’s cute.”
Buck was wheezing looking at Eddie, who looked scandalized at his son thinking he was gross. Karen and Hen were laughing so hard they were crying.
“Get used to it son.” Buck teased Christopher, ruffling his hair. “Because we are so that married gross couple. You just wait. There’s more to come.”
“Argh!” Christopher threw up his hands in fake disgust. “I can’t even with you two right now. Come on Denny.” The two boys went walking ahead of the group; the four adults broke into another round of laughter, and then Karen and Hen went with the boys, leaving Eddie and Buck by themselves for a minute.
“Eds, you know Chris is kidding, right?” Buck asked, seeing Eddie still looking like Christopher’s words were weighing on his mind.
“Yeah,” Eddie said. “But what if he isn’t? What if sharing clothes really does bother him?”
“We’ll talk with him when we get home, ok? This isn’t the place for it. If he’s not ok with it, we can stop. But that’s a family conversation. Now, let’s go catch up with them.”
“Alright.” Eddie said. He tried to put on a face that made it look like the scene that had just happened was all in his head, but he knew Buck could see right through it. Especially when Buck grabbed his hand and held on tight.
The rest of the trip passed by in a flash (not quick enough, if Eddie was being honest; he just wanted to get home and talk to his son); when they were home, the first thing Eddie did was go into the bedroom and grab one of his old army shirts and put it on. He didn’t miss the way Buck’s face fell. He really felt bad when Buck didn’t say a word and changed his own shirt as well.
“Christopher, can you come in here for a second?” Eddie asked; Christopher came into the living room to find Eddie and Buck sitting on opposite ends of the couch.
“What’s up?” Christopher asked.
“Sit down.” Christopher took the space in between Eddie and Buck; this seemed like a serious conversation.
“Did you really mean what you said today at the zoo?” Eddie asked. “Where we grossed you out by wearing each other’s clothes.”
“Dad,” Christopher groaned. “Of course I didn’t. You know I’m going through my ‘you guys are my parents and everything you do is embarrassing’ phase. Wait,” Christopher paused. “You really thought…”
“Yeah.” Eddie said.
“Dad, no. I love you and Buck so much. I love that he makes you happy and you make him happy.” Christopher said.
“See Eddie? I told you our son was just kidding.” Buck said. He turned and looked at Christopher. “Your dad here was worried we were being too much for you and that you really meant what you said.”
“Never.” Christopher said, leaning over and giving Eddie a hug. “I love you dad.”
“Love you too buddy.” Eddie said.
***
“See?” Buck said as they climbed into bed that night. “Using your words gets you the answers you need instead of just assuming the worst is happening.”
“Fine. You win this time.” Eddie said, turning in Buck’s arms so they were chest-to-chest. “But you get to deal with him during his horrible teenage tantrums.”
“Oh no you don’t,” Buck laughed. “Those are all you. Besides, I can already see him yelling at me that I’m not his real dad.” Oh shit, I didn’t mean to say that last sentence out loud.
Eddie sat up so fast he almost connected with Buck’s chin. “Don’t you dare say that.”
“Eds, it’s the truth. I’m not. No matter how much you or he say I am. I’ve seen it before- I’ve done it before. I told Maddie she wasn’t my mom so many times, even though she was the one basically raising me.” Buck said. “It’s a part of it.”
Eddie thought back to his own teen years and the fights he and his parents would have. “I know. I just… I need you here as my partner through it.”
“I will be. I’m not going anywhere.” Buck promised. “I just can’t promise I won’t panic or won’t react when it does happen.”
“We’ll get there when we do.” Eddie said. “We still got a couple years left. For now, let’s just be the embarrassing parents.”
“I can settle for that.” Buck said. “Come on back down here. I was comfortable.”
“I was too.” Eddie agreed, letting his head slide back down onto Buck’s shoulder. “I love you.”
“Love you too.”
In the morning, when Buck had waffles on the griddle, Eddie knew it was a peace offering for last night. He didn’t say a word though; he just went and got Christopher out of bed and downstairs, and that’s when he realized Buck was wearing his old Army t-shirt. The one that had always been slightly big on Eddie. It fit Buck perfectly though. And seeing his own last name splayed across Buck’s back did some things that Eddie couldn’t talk about (or do) in front of Christopher. Buck seemed to know what Eddie was thinking though, because he mouthed, “Later”.
Eddie had married the best person ever. That was his story, and he was sticking to it.

I wanna join your fight in pointing out how Shannon's behavior will have left deep scars on Christopher but it still hits too close to home. My mother didn't even leave, and she even broke down once trying to apologize to me (tho I still haven't been able to fully forgive her, I just can't trust her, I am not strong enough to bride that gap on my end) so like I can't even imagine what it's like for Christopher but dear God, I wish my father was anything like Eddie because all my father did when he was confronted was confirm that he thought everything he did was right - even though, he has more than once made fun of my self harm scars, and called me crazy, while using a spinning hand gesture by his head(I have mental disorders).
So like, yeah, Eddie has fucking learned and is there for his son, while Shannon just gave up, like Buck's parents did on him. It doesn't matter the reason, it doesn't matter that they were overwhelmed. It doesn't matter that my parents were war refugees, when a child needs their parent, especially when the whole world is built against the child's needs, and they're not there... That's a pain, a scar, that can seldom fully heal
Hello, my dear. 💕 The fact that you felt comfortable sharing your story with me lets me know I'm doing the right thing by exposing my own "horror stories". We need to know we're not alone in our fight for survival. I was raised and am still "cared for" by both of my parents, but neither one was or is anything like Eddie. My mother (as most of you know) was not confident in my ability to be independent when I was growing up, and even now will make comments about me not having the skills to help myself. Unless physical and occupational therapists told her to change her ways, or taught me something themselves (tying shoes was a big one!), she did what she believed was "best for her daughter", and that usually meant retaining control over my every move, because at least she would know I was *protected*. (I genuinely think my sister's death played a part in my mother keeping me sheltered whenever possible. It was her way of KNOWING I was safe - as long as I was always with my mom, or "letting" her make decisions, the world couldn't hurt me.) My father... he's not a bad guy. He gave me slightly more freedom when my mother wasn't around - if she was at work on a Saturday and I wanted to go to a friend's house on a whim he'd let me. And he'd even let me go for "walks" with them alone (ofc by "walks" I mean they'd push my chair down the sidewalk, lol). But, for the most part, he agreed with whatever choices she made because doing otherwise would trigger an outburst from her. I was born in a different decade than Christopher (Gavin), so how my parents handled my CP two/three decades ago is a lot different than how parents of kids with CP today deal with it. Research is more complex, new "treatments" are discovered - you can't cure CP, but the things I went through in my adolescence aren't necessarily a doctor's first choice nowadays. I didn't have sit downs with my mother or father where they explained my disability, where they told me I should never stop trying new things no matter how scary it seemed. They still don't have a grasp on what ableism is, if you want the truth, so I've never heard one of them genuinely apologize for mistreating me due to my limitations (unlike Eddie, who is quick to admit when he fucks up). All this is to say that people who want to play the "Eddie left, too!" card in defense of Shannon fail to understand the importance of him CHOOSING to stay even AFTER his wife decided it was her turn to go. He could have read that note and thought, "I'm still not ready to face Christopher's CP. I gotta get out of here." Instead, he realized his son needed him more than ever and took on three jobs just to pay the bills, and also to make sure Christopher had clothes to wear, food to eat, and a bed to sleep in. Everyone who follows me/reads my posts knows how much the "I actually like Shannon" conversation irks me. Yeah, yeah, it's a tv show, and maybe you don't have a disability so you can't relate to the pain. Or maybe you DO have a disability, but you lucked out and were born to parents who did not look at your condition as a burden. (I've heard that before.) I'm sorry, but when I look at Shannon, I see nothing redeemable in her character. Even before she passed, she told Eddie "I'm still learning how to be someone's mother." She had NO CLUE if she'd ever get her shit together. Let's not twist her words into something else just to make her more likable. She doesn't even NEED to be likable. Mothers leave their children everyday IRL, disabled or not. We don't fuck with them, do we? Why are we "defending" or "stanning" a fictional character who left her child, when really we should be grown enough to say "as sad as this may be, it's good that such a sensitive topic is being addressed"? Y'all will support domestic violence storylines (hello, Maddie stans!), internalized homophobia/homophobic families (Eddie stans hoping for that religious guilt to come through), but the mother abandoning her disabled son is where the problem lies? Hmmm. Alright. I wonder why that might be?

Prompt: ABO-verse: Omega Buck not having his safe space at his loft, starts hanging at eddies more, nesting there. Eddie buying softer blankets, etc for buck. But doesnt comment on ti, not to freak or embarrass buck,
Hi Anon! I started to write this and then writing did that thing it does where the story spirals out of control and it deviated ever so slightly from your prompt. If this doesn’t quite scratch the itch, feel free to send the prompt again and I’ll have another stab at it. Either way, I hope you enjoy!
Instinct
“I’m back!” Buck called out, purposefully dumping all his bags loudly on the floor. Sure enough, moments later, a rumpled looking Albert and Veronica emerged from the couch, looking sweaty and happy.
And reeking of sex.
Albert and Veronica were both betas, so their scents weren’t as strong but after pairing their natural scents with all the sex they’d been having, it had taken over Buck’s apartment, stifling the comforting scent he had worked for months to build and layer with each visit from friends and family, each time he nested in a different area of the house. Before Albert had started dating Veronica, the couch had smelled of the last time Buck and Christopher had cuddled and watched How To Train Your Dragon. A week later, the scent was gone and Buck couldn’t bear to sit on it.
He sighed, then turned to put away all the groceries.
“How are you, bro?” Albert asked cheerfully.
“Um... yeah, great. Uh, you?'' Buck felt so ungrounded in his own home, a restlessness that didn't let him focus on any one thing. In his periphery Albert continued to talk, Veronica throwing in a word or two but it was all white noise in Buck’s ears. He felt unhinged, ungrounded, just needed...
“Yeah, definitely.” He threw out noncommittally then dashed upstairs to his loft. It has to be somewhere around--yes! A bulky sweatshirt, the letters LAFD already beginning to fade from wear. Eddie had worn the sweatshirt last time he’d come to visit, Christopher cradled to his chest as they played video games. Buck gripped the shirt in both hands and fell onto his bed, the shirt pressed over his nose and mouth, gasping.
It didn’t matter why these scents grounded him more than anything. It didn’t, damnit! There was no use thinking about it, reading into it. Eddie was his best friend and Buck adored Chrsitopher, so of course their scents brought Buck comfort. That’s all there was to it.
Buck continued to tell himself this as he lay there, muscles melted in relaxation, mind calmed. Eddie’s alpha scent mixed with Christopher’s omega scent soaked into his pores and time ceased to exist.
“...uck? Buck!” Buck startled back to awareness at the sound of Albert calling him.
“...uh?”
Albert’s eyes tracked to the shirt Buck had been holding over his head then back to Buck and he smiled sympathetically. Buck blushed and shoved the shirt to the side with a scowl. He didn't understand Albert's look--it's just a shirt!--but he didn't like it either.
“Eddie called me. He said something about Christopher’s bedtime, you weren’t answering your phone...?” Albert’s eyes strayed again to the shirt and Buck felt his face heat.
“Right, yeah. Uh, is he still on the line?”
Albert shook his head. “He said if you were sleeping to just leave you, but--”
“No, thanks. I’m on my way.” Buck leapt out of bed and grabbed his keys, hustling down the stairs before any more of Albert’s questioning and sympathetic looks could make him feel even sillier than he already did.
It’s nothing.
Nothing.
 ***
“Is Buck gonna stay with us tonight, dad?”
Eddie looked down at his son, a smile breaking through on his face. If Christopher only knew how much I treasure him helping me keep Buck in our lives...! “I’ll ask him, mijo, okay?”
“Okay!” Christopher snuggled deeper into his blankets, the scent of a happy young omega filling the room. “I want to make pancakes with him again in the morning.”
Eddie smiled and placed one more kiss on Christopher’s forehead. “Goodnight mijo.” Then he turned out the light and stepped out, closing the door behind him.
Quietly, Eddie tip-toed to the main room. “Buck?” No response. He took a cursory glance around the room. “Buck?” Sill nothing.
That’s odd. Perhaps the omega had already gone home. The thought made Eddie’s heart sink. He’d been hoping to spend some quality time with Buck, talk and relax. Buck had been looking worn and stressed lately, his scent off and not the usual contented, happy omega that Eddie was used to.
Wait.
Going down the hallway, there was a fresh trail of Buck’s scent, reeking of stress and want. Eddie followed it. Is Buck in my room? The thought sent a thrill through him that he quickly squashed. This isn’t the time for that. And you don’t even know if that's what he wants. You’re friends. Eddie would respect that boundary with Buck or die trying.
The scent went past Eddie’s room, farther down the hall. The only rooms left were the small sunroom that led out onto a small backyard, and--
“Buck?
Eddie made out one of Buck’s socked feet, toes curled. It had been over a week since the last time Eddie had remembered to do laundry, and the room was filled with LAFD t-shirts and sweats, uniforms, pajamas, Chris’s school clothes and more. All the clothes had been crammed into the overflowing hamper, waiting patiently for Eddie to have a spare moment to start a load.
They weren’t in the hamper anymore. The hamper had been up-ended into a mound on the floor and buried in the clothes, Eddie’s most recently used LAFD sweatshirt pressed tightly to his nose, lay Buck, his eyes closed, relaxed, breathing deeply.
“Oh Buck.” Every instinct in Eddie was screaming at him to claim Buck on the spot. He’s ours, you know it! And whether he realizes it or not, so does he!
But it wouldn’t do. Eddie knew now about Buck’s background, his alpha parents who had barely taken the time to feed and clothe Buck, pausing to acknowledge his existence only long enough to yell at him when he messed up. Maddie, bless her kind heart, had taken over looking after Buck, but the particulars of the alpha-omega dynamic was largely foreign to betas.
Buck unearthed himself slightly from the pile and looked up at Eddie, face flushed and eyes glazed.
“I... I don’t know why, I just... please don’t make me leave.” Buck’s voice was husky and low, and tinged with shame. “I... with Albert and Veronica, and--and my apartment, it smells... not like mine anymore.”
And we do. Eddie finished for him in his head as Buck buried himself in Eddie’s shirt once, more, curling deeper into the pile.
“It’s okay, Buck. Shhh, you're okay, everything’s okay.” Eddie approached slowly. Poor Buck didn’t realize the consequences of not having nested for too long. He’d always had his home or his jeep. Nor did he know the implications of what he was doing, what it meant. Eddie knew, but he knew just as certainly that this wasn’t the time to talk about it. For now--
“Come on, Buck. Up you get.” Eddie reached out, one hand grasping Buck’s shoulder, and the other taking his hand.
Buck keened, high and distressed. “No, no. I want... I don’t know why, Eddie, but I felt so empty and stressed, so stressed, and now--”
“It’ll be okay, Buck. We’ll bring the shirt with us, but I don’t want you sleeping on the floor, okay? Come on, baby.” The endearment slipped out before Eddie could stop, but he had no regrets as he felt Buck breathe in deeply then grasp his hand back and sit up.
Carefully, so carefully, Eddie pulled him out of the pile of laundry, resisting his own urge to bury himself where it now smelled like Eddie-Christopher-Buck, home-home-mine--
“Eddie?”
Eddie refocused and pulled Buck toward his chest, making sure that Buck’s grip on the sweatshirt was secure as he gently moved him back down the hall, tamping the fierce wave of possessiveness that surged in him at the sight of Buck leaning against him, soaked in their mingled scent, eyes still unfocused as he breathed deeply.
“Let’s go to bed, Buck.”
“Is... Is that okay, Eddie?”
“Only if it’s okay with you, querido. Don’t worry, it’s just to sleep, so you can get a good rest. We've got a twenty-four hour shift starting tomorrow, I can’t let you go in there looking as rumpled as you’ve been the past few days, okay? But only if you’re comfortable with it.” Eddie would have to speak to Bobby tomorrow. As a fellow omega, it was far more appropriate for Bobby to explain to Buck what his instincts were telling him. What Eddie’s instincts were screaming in return. but for now, Buck needed to nest somewhere that his instincts told him was his.
Theirs.
“Okay, Eddie. I’d... I’d like that.”
Me too. That voice in Eddie’s head whispered as he pulled Buck toward the bed and settled him down, tucking him snugly in the comforter that smelled of Eddie and a bit of Chistopher.
"Eddie--" Buck's hand reached out and Eddie cupped it between his own.
"Shh, baby, I'm right behind you." Eddie kicked off his shoes and climbed in behind Buck, still clothed. He lay a hand on the back of Buck's neck and moved it up and down, stroking between his scent glands and his soft hair. “Christopher wants to make pancakes with you tomorrow before we go. That okay?”
“Mmm. L’v to cook w’ Christ’pher...” Buck mumbled and reached for Eddie, snuggling in deeper, drunk on their combined scents as he drifted off to sleep.

Part 1
He brought your lips back up to his and muttered into between kisses that you were both wearing too many clothes and that if you were going to cum it was going to be with his cock buried deep inside of you and when he commanded you to.
Matthew dipped his long, slender fingers under the thin material of your shirt and removed it from your body in between kisses. The moment that he did that you started to unbutton his top, pushing it off of his toned shoulders, revealing the smooth chest that you could run your fingers over endlessly.
You ran your fingernails across his bare chest, just strong enough to taint the skin red before it returned to its normal color. Matthew hissed at the sensation and involuntary bucked his hips up against your still clothed pussy.
His grabbed your wrists and pinned them up against your head as he flipped the two of you over.
“You are going to keep your hands above your head for Daddy while he removes the rest of your clothes, Princess.” He spoke lewdly you nodded your head yes, afraid of what would actually come out of your mouth if you talked. He lowered himself down to your thighs gripping the hips of your leggings and pulling them down along with your underwear.
Now that you were completely naked in front of him he could see how wet you were. You could feel your wetness pour out of you and trickling down the trailer couch.
Matthew gathered your wetness on his fingers, “Is this all for me Princess?” a smirk forever present on his lips.
“Yes, Daddy all for you. Please I need to feel you daddy, please fuck me.” Matthew raised the two fingers up to your mouth making you lick them clean, you were so distracted in tasting yourself that you were shocked by the sensation of him ramming himself into you.
A string of curses left both of your mouths. “Fuck me, Matthew.” Was the only thing you were able to mutter out in between moans, connecting your lips with his he began to thrust in and out of you at a violent pace, both of you dying for a release.
“My cock belongs to you princess, no other pussy could make me feel this good, you hear me?” Matthew growled in your ear as he quickened his pace ridding you of your jealous thoughts. You knew Matthew loved you and he was showing you how much you belonged to him and nothing was going to change that.
“Yes Matthew, you make me feel so good baby, I love you.”
He grips your hips tightly, making sure to leave bruises marking his territory, you arch your back pushing Matthew deeper inside of you. You moan loudly as he hits your g-spot. You let out a strangled moan knowing your close to cumming. His thrust become sloppy and out of sync “I’m gonna cum baby” you nod slightly “me too”. A couple more thrust and we both come undone against each other.
Matthew releases his grip on your hips as he pulls out, before cuddling up beside you and kissing you passionately and full of love.
“I love you so much Y/N and if you ever feel jealous I want you to tell me instead of running away okay.” Matthew told you as you locked eyes with each other, you loved how one minute he was dominating you and the next he was back to the caring guy that you had fallen in love with.
“Yes, baby. I promise.” You said as you pecked him on the lips, sleepiness coming over the both of you.
“You know studies have shown that people who are really in love tend to get jealous over small and stupid things. Another study in particular showed no difference in amounts of jealousy between men and women. Although women get a bad reputation for being jealous, turns out men are just as bad.” You stated wanting him to know that the situation could’ve been reversed, with him being the jealous one instead of you.
“Yes, I know baby I hate when guys ogle you when we are together. Now try to get some sleep enough with the facts Dr. Reid.” You both giggled at his comment.
You wrap your legs around his waist and pull him closer “I love you” you say softly “I love you too” he replies kissing your forehead. You close your eyes and drift of to sleep knowing that Matthew and I are madly in love and nothing will ever change that.

I'll be holding on to you
Buddie
"I should have seen it, it was all so obvious Buck, so clear in front of me. It's you, it's always been you."
read on ao3
Tumblr media
The second time Eddie opens his eyes, it only takes a few seconds for him to understand where he is. The sunlight coming in through the windows is much clearer than usual, but even so, it is impossible not to notice that he is in his room lying on the bed while staring at the ceiling. The small movement at his side makes Eddie turn around and he catches his breath when he sees who's there with him.
Because it's Buck, a Buck who obviously isn't wearing any clothes on top, leaving all the skin on his chest exposed, lying on his side with his face very close to Eddie. Buck, sleeping peacefully and so beautiful framed by the yellow and orange nuances of the sunlight.
Eddie lies on his side approaching, careful not to wake Buck, until his body is practically glued to Buck's. How many minutes is he there? Just watching Buck sleep?
"You are staring." Buck's husky voice awakens Eddie from his thoughts.
"I'm gazing."
"It's creepy."
"It's romantic."
Eddie sighs when he hears Buck chuckle before opening his eyes, those beautiful blue eyes. Buck gets even closer, sinking his body against Eddie's who welcomes him by wrapping his arms around Buck's waist.
"Good Morning!"
Buck says almost in a whisper and Eddie can't even answer before receiving a soft, gentle kiss on the lips. The touch of Buck's fingers caressing his face makes Eddie tremble. The taste of Buck's lips is like coming home. It's perfect.
"You need to wake up Eddie."
"What? Buck, I'm already awake." Eddie responds smiling without understanding and wraps his arms tighter around Buck's waist.
"No Eddie, you need to wake up."
"Buck ... I don't understand."
"Christopher needs you." Buck has a sad look now and Eddie feels his heart sink with the sadness that Buck is feeling. "I need you. Please, Eddie."
"No! I don't understand, Buck, I'm here! I'm awake."
"Please, Eddie. Come home. We need you ... please."
Eddie despairs when he feels Buck's body being pulled away from him and as much as he tries, Eddie can't move, can't reach Buck. Eddie screams his name, asks, begs him to return ... and then the darkness embraces him again.
The third time Eddie opens his eyes, it's for a white room with low lighting and an intense smell of sanitizer, it doesn't take much more than a few seconds to know that he was in a hospital.
Because he had been hurt. Shot in the shoulder. Again. Excellent.
"Edmundo ?! Oh, sweetheart, you're awake!"
The soft, low voice comes into his ears, and immediately a face appears in front of Eddie's eyes. Ana. His girlfriend. Except that she is not the one he wants. He wants Buck and the warmth that warmed Eddie when he held him in his arms. He wants the light, sleepy smile early in the morning. He wants the kiss ... Buck's loving, perfect kiss.
"Buck !? Christopher!"
"They're outside. He's with Christopher ... I thought ... I thought it should be me here when you wake up."
"Buck ?!"
Eddie says again, his head still a little confused and unable to process everything she is saying, he just knows he wants Buck. Buck is the one who should be here, Buck is the one who should be the first person Eddie would see when he woke up, Buck and Christopher. They are the two most important people in Eddie's life, the two people he loved the most. God, everything was as clear as day now. Always there, exposed in his face so obvious that it is even comical. And suddenly he is no longer confused. His mind has never been clearer before.
"Edmundo, I don't understand ... why ..."
"I'm sorry, Ana. I never meant to hurt you. I swear to you that I really believed that the two of us were right for each other."
"You can't be serious right now. You can't tell me that you really ..."
"We're done, Ana. We should never have even started. I was blind to what was in front of me, and for that, I am so sorry."
"No! You are just confused. It must be the medications and ..."
"Ana, please don't! Don't do this to yourself. It's over. We're over."
"You will regret it. Edmundo. You will realize the mistake you are making and you will regret it."
"I would never regret choosing him, Ana."
Tumblr media
Buck hates the hospital waiting room, all right, truth be told, he's always been on the other side of the door. Always the patient. But Buck definitely hates the hospital's waiting room. He had woken up practically with the sun, after almost reading an entire book to Christopher, the child finally managed to fall asleep and Buck refused to leave his side, so at some point he too fell asleep, sitting against the headboard. Chris was still scared and had clung to Buck, refusing to leave his lap even for an instant. So here was Buck, sitting on a chair in the waiting room, with Christopher in his lap hiding his face on Buck's chest while Carla read a book to try to distract him. He wanted to get in Eddie's room, he wanted to see Eddie. He wanted to take Chris to see his father. But Ana insisted that it should be her and Christopher to be there, and when Christopher refused to go with her, and clung more tightly to Buck. Well, the woman just twisted her angry face and walked away, heading towards Eddie's room without giving the slightest chance of anyone saying anything. That had been over an hour ago, and she hadn't left yet. This means that Eddie has not yet woken up, because Buck knows that Christopher would be the first person Eddie would ask to see, so Ana would leave for Christopher to enter. He would just have to wait.
And that was the problem, right?
Buck didn't want to wait.
"What do you think about going to eat something? Aren't you hungry, my love? I'm sure we can find something very tasty in the cafeteria."
Carla's voice awakens Buck from his thoughts and he twists his neck a little so he can look into Chris's eyes, who instead of answering just sought Buck's look.
"That's a great idea, isn't it Superman, you hardly ate your breakfast and I know you must be hungry."
"But ... Daddy ..."
"I will stay here. If he wakes up, I promise I will call you."
"Promise?"
"I promise, buddy."
Carla and Christopher have barely disappeared down the hall when Buck notices Ana coming towards her, her quick steps and red eyes make it clear that she is crying. He stands up worried, but she just looks at him furiously.
"I hope you are happy now."
Then she leaves, saying nothing more and leaving Buck more confused than ever. But whatever her problem was, Buck couldn't care less. He practically runs to the room where Eddie is, and when he walks through the door and sees him there, with his eyes open looking back at Buck, it's such an intense emotion that Buck can't help himself, he bites his lower lip hard and his vision blurs through tears.
"Hey."
"Hey? You almost die on me and everything you say is hey?" Buck lets out a choked laugh and walks over to sit on the edge of the bed.
"You know it wasn't my fault, right?"
"Do you mean different from the time you cut the line?"
"Oh come on Buck, don't do that."
Eddie smiles as he sees Buck roll his eyes, everything looks so much better now, so much simpler now. With Buck here. But it was always like that, wasn't it? Better, easier, brighter. Everything was always better with Buck around, damn it, Eddie had been stupid and blind. There, so close to him all this time.
"You scared me, Eddie," Buck murmurs in a broken voice. "I thought..."
"I know, I'm sorry." With a sigh he reaches for Buck's hand and intertwines their fingers, it feels good, a feeling of warmth that takes over his whole body. "But it's okay now. And I'm happy that you're here."
"Of course I'm here. I was outside waiting for Ana to leave, which by the way, she looked angry when she passed me."
"We're over."
"Oh ... I ... I'm sorry, Eddie. I can't believe she did this to you."
"She didn't. I did."
"I don't understand, I thought I liked her."
"I did, just not enough. She just wasn't the one. My heart didn't belong to her, it belongs to someone else." Eddie smiles, taking Buck's hand to his chest, right where his heart is so Buck can feel his heartbeat at his fingertips.
"Eddie ?!" Buck can't even breathe, his gaze going from Eddie's eyes to their hands.
"I should have seen it, it was all so obvious Buck, so clear in front of me. It's you, it's always been you."
"What are you saying?" Buck mumbles in a choked voice
"That I love you, I'm completely in love with you. And that I'm terrified that you don't feel the same, but I need to tell you. I need you to know that I dreamed of you, dreamed that you were on my side asking me to come back, that I was lost and confused, and that it was your voice that made me find my way back, to you and Christopher. Home, Buck, you and Chris are my home and I love you, I love you so much, and..."
"I love you too."
Buck says the words in a broken and sobbing voice and Eddie can no longer hold himself, he grabs Buck's neck and pulls him towards his lips. He tastes millions of times better than in the dream. Buck tastes like sunlight, strawberries, happiness, and all the good things in the universe. It's wonderful, perfect, and addictive and Eddie could spend all eternity kissing Buck. Eddie sighs loving the sensation of their tongues engaging in a slow and calm dance, exploring the territory, recognizing every little corner of their mouths without any hurry, because they know they will have all the time in the world.
Tumblr media
The next few days at the hospital are terrible, Eddie hates every second and can't wait to go home. Christopher stayed with him on the first day, but due to the pandemic, Eddie convinced his son to stay safe at home, promising that they would talk at least twice through face time. Carla is a huge help and stays with Christopher while Buck is working or at the hospital keeping company with Eddie. But at night, Buck goes home to be with Christopher, and the three talks on his cell phone before the boy goes to sleep. The entire 118 family visits, taking turns to make sure Eddie always has someone by his side. It's good, the feeling of having so many people beside him. Eddie always knew that 118 was a big, close-knit family, but at times like this, he realizes how close everyone is.
A week later, he finally goes home. Buck picks him up at the hospital and when Eddie walks through the front door of his house he is met by all his friends, Pepa and Abuela. Balloons and a banner are hanging in his living room. He has a cake with the words: 'No more shoulders left to shoot' that makes Eddie laugh and Hen smile saying that the cake is red velvet.
"It bleeds when you cut it."
He doesn't really understand why it makes Buck laugh, it seems like a joke between the two of them, but Eddie doesn't care at the moment. His whole family is here, he can finally hug his son. They spend hours talking, eating, and laughing while the kids play around the house and then disappear to play video games in Christopher's room. That feeling of having found his place in the world is good, since Eddie decided to come to Los Angeles, his parents have done nothing but question Eddie and make him question himself. But here, surrounded by people he trusts and loves, he has never been more sure about his choice.
The conversation with Christopher is more than overdue, while he was in the hospital, Eddie knew that the boy wouldn't question Ana's absence, but now with Eddie at home, he knows that Christopher would find it strange that the woman disappeared, so after everyone's gone, leaving only him, Christopher and Buck at home. Eddie expects Buck to help his son get ready for bed and goes to the bedroom so they can talk. The conversation is, at the very least strange, Christopher accepts the break-up with Ana well and seems even relieved that his father is no longer dating her and Eddie feels like punching himself for really thinking that Ana was the best for his son. When he says he's dating Buck, Christopher's reaction changes and Eddie can feel his boyfriend freeze beside him. For a few seconds, Christopher looks at them both with narrowed eyes and a confused expression.
"Does that mean Buck is going to spend more time with us?"
"Well, yes, kiddo. He's going to be spending a lot of time with us now."
"Is he going to live here too?"
"No, Chris, I'm not going to live here with you, buddy."
"Maybe in the future, Chris," Eddie responds over Buck, looking quickly at his boyfriend who still looks frozen and doesn't even blink.
"You should move in with us, Buck. Everything's better when you're here. We can eat pancakes every morning."
Christopher says as if it is the most obvious and simple thing in the world, and when Eddie sighs more relieved asking if his son is okay with him and Buck being together, Christopher just laughs and throws himself on Buck's lap hugging him, then he reaches out for Eddie to join the hug.
"I knew Dad. Carla said people who love each other are connected by invisible strings, remember? I knew that one day you and Buck would be able to see the strings connecting you two."
After that everything is so ... simple. So simple that it sometimes scares Eddie.
He didn't know that a relationship could be like that, with Shannon he knew only two settings. Either they were fighting, or they were in bed having sex. With Ana, it was easy. There was no spark, and she always had to initiate any touch.
But with Buck, he knows a type of relationship that he doesn't even know existed. Nothing changes between them, but at the same time, everything seems to change. They still eat pizza and play video games with Christopher, or watch some animated movie that Chris chooses. Buck helps him with school activities and they talk about the books that Chris is reading for the School. They go to the park for Christopher to walk with his skate at times that they know it won't be crowded, Buck pushes the boy through the park practically alone since Eddie can't use his shoulder, but Eddie goes back recording every minute loving Christopher's and Buck's laugh
They still spend hours sitting on the couch talking about everything and anything, but now Eddie lies in Buck's arms sighing every time his boyfriend kisses his temple. Sometimes they simply laid there, not talking at all, just enjoying each other's company. Now when Christopher goes to Hen's house for a sleepover with Denny, the two of them just cook some homemade meal - well, Buck is going to cook and Eddie is just going to watch him because the last thing they need is an accident - so they will set the table in a romantic mood. Eddie will even light some candles and put on some soft music to play, it's the perfect romantic night for them. Sometimes they go out, it is rare that they choose to go out, it is safer to stay at home and they even prefer it. But when they go out, it is never for expensive and extravagant restaurants. No, because with Buck, Eddie doesn't have to pretend. Then they go to the Mexican food restaurant a few blocks from Buck's apartment, or the food truck for them to eat the best hot dog in LA, next to the park where they take Chris to skate. Sometimes they go to an Italian Cantina across town and have fun eating pasta and garlic bread and drinking grape juice since Eddie is still on medication for his shoulder. Now, when Buck spends the night, instead of sleeping on the couch, he sleeps in bed with Eddie and that makes it so much more wonderful. Eddie loved it, when in the morning, when everything was silent and the sun started to pass through the curtain and filled the room with a foggy golden-yellow glow, Eddie opened his eyes and smiled when he saw Buck, his blond hair with messy curls contrasting with the white pillow, admiring the sunlight reflected on it, setting it on fire. He heard Buck's steady rhythm of breathing and counted the almost invisible freckles he had on his shoulders, ran his finger almost without touching the mark above his eye, and fell in love with him again and again. Buck could feel he was being admired and then obviously he would eventually wake up with a beautiful smile as he would bite his lower lip, turn to Eddie and arch his back, stretching and saying good morning. They would kiss slowly for a few minutes, then take a shower together enjoying the hot spray of water, later Buck would make breakfast while Eddie woke Chris. The three of them would have breakfast together and Eddie couldn't imagine a more perfect life.
Almost two months pass when they decide to tell their friends that they are together, it is a barbecue at Athena and Bobby's house and the two arrive with their hands intertwined. Athena is the one who opens the door and she smiles in a way that says thousands of words and when they go down the stairs everyone looks at them for a few seconds
"Well, it was about damn time."
Hen's voice echoes and everyone starts laughing and congratulating them for being together. Chimney wrings his face and complains that they only told them about their dating today.
"Last week, guys, if you've told us last week I would have made some good money, thank you very much."
Eddie and Buck don't quite understand, but they don't care, they just sit on a bench in the garden and Eddie settles against his boyfriend's chest and Buck puts his arm over Eddie's shoulder, and then they embark on a conversation with Bobby that is next to them on the grid. The day is sunny, the children's laughter can be heard all over the house, everyone is having fun and Eddie can't help admiring his boyfriend when Maddie leaves Jee-Yun in his arms.
Days later when he tells Carla at his house, she looks at him with a wise smile.
"I'm glad you finally followed your heart, Eddie."
After his friends, it's time to finally tell his family. Abuela and Pepa are the first and they surprise Eddie. They just smile and show no surprise at the newness. Abuela just holds him by the face with both hands and kisses him on the forehead.
"Tardaste a ver lo que estabas frente a ti, Edito"
His parents manage to surprise him even more. Eddie expected the look of disapproval, he expected a palestra, where his parents would say all the ways Eddie was ruining his life and dragging Christopher with him. But instead, his mother smiles and asks to know more about the relationship, and Eddie tells them everything, he talks about how Buck is good for him and for Christopher, how he cares for them, how Christopher loves to have Buck in his life. His parents listen to everything and then say that they are happy for him and that they hope that the next time they talk on face time, they expect Buck to be with him so that they officially meet him as his boyfriend. When the call is over, Eddie can't help sobbing feeling that huge weight on his heart is gone, he is just grateful to be home alone.
The months drag on slowly after that, the physical therapy sessions are intense and Eddie hates every second of them. He is tired and in pain almost all the time. But Buck is always there, when he is not on a shift he goes to physical therapy with Eddie and participates in each exercise, helping and encouraging Eddie to remain strong and confident. When they go home, Buck always drags him into a nice, long hot shower, they lie down on the bed, and Buck massages Eddie's aching shoulder and back until he is so relaxed and dismounted that he simply passes out on the bed embarked in deep sleep that renews all his energies. It takes a long time, much longer than Eddie thought it would take, and definitely more than he would like it to take. But finally, he has a clean bill of health and can go back to the fire station. He is greeted with a party just like months ago at his house, they celebrate Eddie's return to work for a few minutes until the siren rings causing everyone to run to the truck. Eddie exhales when he feels the fire truck roam the streets of Los Angeles, enjoying the feeling of being back where he belonged. When Buck interlaces their fingers and looks at Eddie with a huge smile, happy to have his partner back, Eddie smiles even more.
Yes, he really was where he belongs.

HEY BB!!! hope you are well! a buddie fic request: exdie hearing buck scream out to him and talking about it with buck after, and maybe a feeling confessions??? 💖💖💖 love u
<3 this ended up being a little long, but i hope you like it!!!!! i love you too sooooooo much
“Eddie! No, Eddie!”
The scream of raw panic and terror was visceral even from where Eddie was trapped, almost over forty feet beneath collapsed dirt and mud. It was all Eddie heard before everything continued to fall and collapse in on itself, leaving nothing but a deafening silence and the sound of Buck’s despair ringing in his ears.
He thinks he might have been knocked out—for how long, he doesn’t know—but when he comes too, he swears he can still hear Buck screaming for him. He groaned as he came too, his head throbbing painfully even underneath the helmet he was wearing. Eddie’s hand weakly flopped against his shoulder, grimacing when he didn’t feel the radio against his hand. With great reluctance he opened his eyes, blinking a couple of times before his hazy vision cleared and he spotted the radio sitting just within arms reach in front of him.
Eddie reached out, fingers brushing against the antenna and slowly pulling it toward him. He coughed a little, his shaky hands raising the radio up to his mouth. “This is Diaz,” he rasped, his words slurring a little as he tried to get his mouth to work. “Can anybody… hear me?”
The radio remained silent aside from a brief crackle. Terror clutched at his heart and he forced himself to sit up, leaning heavily against the edge of the dirt wall next to him. “This is Eddie,” he said into the radio, struggling to keep his head up. “I’m still…” his head dropped forward a bit, exhaustion and ache in every ounce of his body. “I’m still alive.”
“I’m still alive down here!” he screamed into the radio, desperation, and panic starting to overtake the sluggish calm he’d been feeling. He pounded his fist against the dirt, praying, hoping, that someone could hear him. “I’m still alive down here!”
“Anyone?” he whispered brokenly into the radio.

The first time Eddie laid eyes on Buck when he woke up in the hospital, his best friend was asleep.
He was laying passed out on the couch against the wall of the room with Christopher nestled tightly on his chest. One arm was curled protectively over Christopher’s back while the other hung limply off the edge of the couch. He was in a fresh pair of clothes—Eddie’s clothes, which made him swallow hard and try not to think too hard about it—but his face was still grimy with dirt and mud, lines of tension visible even while he slept.
“He was very worried about you, nieto.” his Abuela drew his attention back to her. She was gazing at Buck and Christopher with a mix of worry and fondness on her face. “He refused to leave, so after I brought Christopher here I went back home and got him a change of your clothes.”
“I’m sorry I worried you.” Eddie murmured, reaching out and holding his Abuela’s hand tightly. “Thank you for taking care of them.”
“Of course. He is family.” Abuela said simply, squeezing his hand and leaning forward to gently kiss his forehead. “Sleep, mijo, I will watch over you and them.”
Hearing Abuela call Buck family warmed Eddie’s chest like no heated blankets or warm IVs could ever compete with. He knew Abuela had been quickly enraptured by Buck’s charm—they all had—and it comforted him to know if anything happened to him, Buck would be well taken care of.
The next time he woke up, Buck was holding his hand. His friend was staring blankly at the wall across from him, exhaustion weighing heavy on his face and a haunted look in his eyes. It wasn’t until Eddie gently squeezed his hand that Buck seemed to break out of whatever trance he was in. He quickly looked down at Eddie and the relief that flooded his face knocked the breath out of Eddie’s lungs.
“Oh, thank God,” Buck breathed, squeezing his hand tightly. “How’re you feeling, Eds?”
Eddie hummed tiredly. “Okay, I think. Head kind of hurts. Little cold, still.”
“The doctor said you had a Grade 1 concussion,” Buck said, chewing on his bottom lip absently. He always did that when he was worried about something. “Mild hypothermia, so they wanted to keep you for 24 hours to make sure there weren’t any complications.”
“Hayden?” he asked, hoping Chimney and the boy he’d rescued had gotten to safety before the collapse.
“He’s fine,” Buck assured him with a tired smile. “Thanks to you. They managed to get out right before—” he cut himself off, swallowing hard and looking away.
"I heard you,” Eddie admitted, running his thumb along the inside of Buck’s wrist. It soothed his nerves to feel the steady pulse thrumming with life beneath his finger. “When the well collapsed, before I was knocked out.”
Buck inhaled shakily, looking absolutely wrecked. “I-I thought I lost you.” Fresh tears dripped down his face as he shook his head. “When the lightning struck, I turned my back on you for one second to keep Bobby safe and—”
Eddie reached up with his other hand to gently brush the tears off his cheeks, silent support, and encouragement to keep going. It breaks his heart to hear Buck talk like this, talk about what happened above ground, but it was obvious this was something he needed to tell him.
“Every time I try to help someone I keep losing you two,” Buck said brokenly, his blue eyes full of pain and guilt.
“Buck, what do you mean?” Eddie asked. His mouth twisted into a confused frown at Buck’s words.
Buck hesitated, not looking at Eddie when he quietly started talking again. “During the—the tsunami, I turned my back on Christopher for one second to help someone and he was just gone. And the same thing happened again.” When he finally looked up at Eddie, his heart broke at the pain shining in those eyes. “Why does this keep happening? Why do I keep losing you two? Is this the universe’s sick way of telling me I need to stay away from you?”
“No,” Eddie told him firmly, grasping the back of Buck’s neck and pulling him closer until their foreheads touched. “Absolutely not. Sometimes bad things just happen to good people. It’s no one's fault, Buck.”
“I know why you did it,” Buck said, eyes closing as he spoke. “I’m not mad—I mean, I probably would’ve done the exact same thing. I was just scared, of losing you, of Christopher losing you.”
“I’ll always come back to family, Buck,” Eddie promised, brushing his thumb over Buck’s cheekbone and smiling softly when those baby blues finally met his gaze. “I’m not planning on going anywhere for a long time.”
When their mouths slotted together in the gentlest of kisses, it wasn’t a surprise to either of them. It was natural—just like everything had been with Buck, and Eddie knows he’s loved this man for a long time. The kiss said everything their hearts were feeling but their mouths wouldn’t say, a quiet promise, an affirmation—not a declaration—of the love they held for each other.
When they broke the kiss, Eddie let himself be held in Buck’s arms, relishing in the warmth it brought to his cold and battered body. Buck’s hand gently carded through his hair and as Eddie’s eyes fluttered shut, he felt a small smile grow on his lips. He’s dealt with a lot of complicated things in his life but this?
Nothing was complicated about their love.

Nobody asked for this but I wrote it anyway🤷🏼‍♀
Girls Need Love Too
Tumblr media
This is my original writing, you do not have permission to copy it, changing the boy or slightly changing the details is still plagiarism. If I find out you copied my writing I will not hesitate to publicly shame you and report your sorry ass✌🏼😗
It was the early hours of Sunday morning, you roll over to realize Chris isn't beside you and his side of the bed is cold, you glance at your phone on the night stand beside the bed its 3:00Am. You start to wonder if Chris had even come to bed at all.
You begrudgingly yank the covers off your body, swinging your legs off the side of the bed, as your feet delicately touch the floor you wince at the coldness. You quickly scurry to the sitting room where you knew Chris would be slouched on the couch playing fortnight.
You stand against the wall with your arms crossed trying to keep yourself warm as the apartment got freezing at night and you were only wearing one of Christopher's t-shirts, you watched as he focused on the game, trying not to die, you loved the way his fingers would gracefully graze over the buttons on the controller and how you longed to have his fingers play with your body the same way, or how he swiped his tongue out over his bottom lip as he was concentrating, It made you think of all the sinful things chris could do with his tongue, the thought alone made you shiver, you loved the sound of his raspy voice speaking to Erick through his headset.
The floorboards creaked under the shuffling of your feet, Chris' head turned in your direction, "did I wake you up princesa", you gently smile at him as you pad over to straddle his lap, cuddling your face into the crook of his neck you meekly reply " no, I just couldn't sleep without you" and you place a gentle peck on his neck. Chris smiles to himself, while placing a soft kiss on your forehead, you let out a little sigh of happiness, glad to be back in his arms.
Christopher continued playing for another while, but the problem was, was that while he was playing you were watching him and secretly getting turned on.
Finally you took it upon yourself to start carefully placing sweet little pecks on his neck, which Chris found cute at first but it quickly became very hard for him to concentrate when you started sucking and biting on his sweet spot, he quickly turned and gave you a look that said why are you doing that. You slowly leaned up to his ear and whispered "because I would like some of your attention please", Chris looked at you, as he muted his mic he softly asked you " what kind of attention do you want nena", you grabbed on to his shoulders as you shifted your bare, wet pussy over his clothed cock, the only thing standing between you and his cock, being the thin material of his boxers, Chris' eyes quickly went wide as your gaze sunk to your thighs delicately placed around his waist, as a blush creeped it's way up your cheeks.
Chris unmuted his mic and quickly said to Erick " listen man, I have to take care of something really quick, but I'll be back in a while" Chris gave Erick no time to answer and straight away turned the game off.
Chris gently places his hands on the side of your face and pulls you closer to kiss you, as you pull away for breath your foreheads pressed against each other, your noses softly brushing against one anothers, he whispers " I'm all yours Hermosa, all you ever have to do is just ask". You start making out, loving the feeling of Chris' tounge exploring every inch of your mouth, you start grinding your hips down on him, he let's out a low growl in your mouth.
You stand up to kneel down between his legs, you spread his legs nice and wide, you gently run your nails along his thighs, he let's out a little whimper " nena por favor", you obediently nod your head as you drag his boxers off his body, he sighs of relief as the crisp air in the apartment hits his cock.
You lovingly gaze up at him through your eyelashes as you lick your quivering lips in anticipation, Chris let's out a deep throaty moan at the sight of you. You take a good look at him, appreciating every inch of his body, his handsome face, his tattoo's, his muscle's, his abs, his juicy thighs that looked good enough to ride and lastly his big, thick cock that was begging for your attention, you firmly grabbed ahold of the base of his cock with your dainty little hand and gently squeezing him a little bit as your tounge swirls around his leaking pink tip, you slowly lick from the base of his cock up to the tip, stopping to suck on his tip, watching as his head slowly tips back with his mouth wide open. You proceed to take his whole cock in your mouth, your nose gently brushing off his abdomen, as you continue to bob up and down on his cock, deep throating him, you palm his balls making sure that they get just as much attention as his cock, you look up at Chris to see him desperately grabbing at the couch beneath him, while he breathlessly calls your name out, you realize Chris is about to come when he starts rapidly trusting his hips into your mouth, you gag and moan around his cock, your spit all over his cock, drool leaking out the sides of your mouth, dripping down your neck pooling in between your breasts, as he fucks you pretty little mouth with his throbbing cock relentlessly, his cock begging to release in your mouth. Chris finally shoots his load into your mouth, you swallow every drop and continue to bob your head to milk Chris' high.
When he's finished he weakly says "nena stand up for me", you quickly stand on your feet, Chris sits up leaning forward to pull you to stand between his legs, his face being directly in front of your aching pussy the only thing blocking his view being the T-shirt you were wearing belonging to him. He gently placed his hands on your thighs, rubbing his thumbs in circles, he leaned in and started to place sweet soft kisses on your thighs, he took hold of your right leg and placed your foot on his left thigh, he licked, sucked and bit his way up the inside of your thigh, leaving a trail of little red marks behind him, you let out little whines and moans in anticipation, you could feel him smirking on the inside of your thigh, he stopped just before he got to your pussy.
He slowly lifted his T-shirt up over your stomach and placed gentle kisses up your hips to your stomach, you looked at him " papi por favor, I need you", Chris looked at you, your arousal dripping down the inside of your left thigh, Pooling at your foot and tears pricking at the corners of your eyes, he had no idea you had been this turned on. "Take off my T-shirt hermosa" he softly whispered, you proceeded to do as your told, when you took his T-shirt off you placed your foot back up on his thigh for him "good girl, baby" he rasply replied, he gripped your thigh pulling it up over his shoulder for better access.
He placed an open mouth kiss on your clit, your body quivered with the sensation it sent through your body, as you let out a blissful moan, he glanced up at you through his thick lashes "aye dios mio nena, your not going to last very long, are you?", you shook your head " no papi", you both knew there was no way you were gonna last long, you were far to sensitive and he had barely even touched you, Chris just seemed to have that effect on your body.
His tounge delved inside your aching pussy, lapping up all your juices, letting out grunts of satisfaction as he sucked and tugged on your aching clit, like he was starving and your wet cunt was a full course meal, he started pumping two of his fingers inside your tight hole, the feeling of his rough fingers and the contrast of the cool metal rings adorning his fingers had you coming in no time, you rapidly bucked your hips as Chris rode your high out.
When you had finished, you sat down, straddling his lap again, you started to aggressively make out with him again, both of you tasting your self's off each others tounge, you both moaned into each others mouth loving every second of this moment, as the two of you continued to make out, your hand reached down to pump Chris' cock that was still semi hard, he gently pulled away from you "whatcha doin" he asked with a lazy smile etched across his plump, kissable lips, you leaned forward and whispered as your lips softly brushed against his ear " papi may I ride your cock, por favor Bebé", Chris couldn't believe his ears, you were being so straight forward, normally you were his shy little baby, but he was loving you telling him exactly what you want.
He nodded with a shit eating grin on his face "si hermosa, all you have to do is ask and papi will give you what you want nena". You leaned forward place a sweet but firm kiss on his lips, it didnt take long for Chris to respond. Chris helped you stick his cock inside your pussy, oh how you both loved the way your pussy stretched around his cock to accommodate to his size, you wished you could keep his cock inside you all the time, it felt amazing to have him snug inside you throbbing.
You gazed into his eyes, seeing them overflowing with the pure love and adoration he had just reserved for you, before grabbing hold of his shoulders for support, he gripped your waist ready to keep you balanced, you started to move up and down his cock, the two of you in other bliss, the sounds of your skin slapping bouncing off the walls along with both your moans. Chris angled his hips to start thrusting up into you when he felt your movements getting sloppy and his thumb traveled down to your swollen pink clit to rub desperate circles to bring you closer to your second orgasm, while he sucked on your nipple like his life depended on it, your body started to shake "fuck papi I'm gonna cum" his spare hand traveled up between your breasts and gently squeezed your throat as he whispered in your ear " cum nena, make a mess on papi's cock like the dirty little girl you are princesa" and with that you were cumming on his cock, your pussy clenching around Chris' cock, it wasn't long after Chris came inside you filling you up to the brim with his warm sticky cum, both of you out of breath, your sweaty foreheads resting against one another, gazing into each others eyes. Chris broke the silence first "nena that was amazing", you shyly smiled at him "gracias papi for giving me some of your attention", he smirked at you "as I said nena if you want papi's attention, all you ever have to do is ask bebé".
You lazily placed your head back in the crook of his neck and placed your hand resting on his chest, while he turned fortnight back on, Chris placed a kiss on your forehead as your eyes gently fluttered closed while you listened to Chris talk to Erick through his headset again.

The 5 times Eddie doesn't know Buck speaks spanish +1 he finds out. Be gentle,, I used google translate lmao
1.
"Ni siquiera ves lo que me haces, ¿verdad?"
Buck's eyes are startled up from his phone, lifting to meet Eddie's where he was sitting next to him on the couch, hand rubbing soothing circles into his bad leg. Buck tilts his head, confused, and that's where Eddie makes a fatal mistake.
He laughs softly, "You'll ruin your eyes, staring at that thing so intensely."
Buck, still confused, opens his mouth to ask, but the bell rings and Eddie is gently placing his leg down to rush off to the trucks. He has no choice but to follow.
Sitting across from his best friend, Buck tries to think back on every interaction they've had since they met and- holy shit. Eddie doesn't know I speak spanish.
The call was relatively easy, but the shift had been long nonetheless and when they get back to the fire house, Buck's too distracted to remember to ask Eddie about what he said, before he's off to the showers. And why he lied about what it meant, he thinks. He narrows his eyes down at his boots, it's not like it was anything bad. Why lie?
And Buck gets close, so close to threading a very important needle when Eddie clangs his locker shut. "We'll see you for movie night tomorrow?" he asks, almost to the door already. Buck, mind elsewhere, nods distractedly at him. And he's gone, running off to pick up Christopher on time.
2.
Buck tells Maddie. Because of fucking course he doesn't think about the consequences of his actions. She grins at him, and immediately he knows he's made a mistake. "Oh? What do you do to him, Buck?"
He groans and tries to shove his hand in her face. "Stop, it's not like that." She gives him a flat look. He sighs. "Its not that I don't want it to be, you know that, I just don't want to mess it up with my feelings."
"Really though? What if he feels the same?"
"What if he doesn't?" Buck looks down at his plate, pushing his food around with his fork. "I can't risk losing him and Christopher on a what if."
Maddie frowns at him, but doesn't push much harder. "Well, you're going to tell him you speak spanish then?"
Buck shrugs, "I mean, yeah. I just don't get why he'd hide something so simple."
Maddie looks at him, thoroughly unimpressed, but before she has the chance to tell him that he's the smartest idiot she's ever met, his eyes catch the time on his phone. "Oh shit," he grabs his jacket and keys, fumbling around the table to kiss her cheek. "I love you, I'm gonna be late to movie night!"
"Bye, I love-" The door slams and she hears his quick steps fade down the hall. With a small smile, she pulls out her phone. Chimney's gonna love this.
--
Buck makes it barely on time, maybe speeding a bit through the less busy roads, but no one can prove it. He arrives two minutes before 7, bustling through the door without knocking.
He manages to close the door behind him before he catches an armful of Christopher. "You're here!" he shouts.
Buck grins down at him, lifting him for a squeeze and a twirl. "And I wasn't even late!"
Eddie walks out of the kitchen, smiling, "Just barely. Are your tires smoking?"
Buck sticks his tongue out in response.
Eddie's eye roll is instant, "¿Cómo estoy enamorado de un hombre tan inmaduro?"
Buck fumbles, almost dropping Christopher. He plays it off by setting the kid down, and asking "What'd you pick for a movie?"
Christopher, oblivious to Buck's small heart attack, happily takes his hand and leads him to the living room, rambling about how The Little Mermaid never gets old.
"Hey, how about you help me get the popcorn and drinks, buddy?" Christopher obliges, moving for the kitchen and releasing Buck. Eddie watches him until he's out of earshot, then turns to Buck. "Was that your leg? Is it bothering you any?"
Buck shakes his head, face turning red. "No it's just-" you literally just told me you love me, I think I'm allowed to freak the fuck out!
"It's okay, you go sit down and we'll be out in a sec."
Then Buck is left staring after his best friend, some weird feelings clenching in his chest.
3.
"HE SAID WHAT?!"
Buck slaps a hand over his sister's mouth. "Shut the fuck up! He'll hear you!"
Both pause and lean to look into the living room of Buck's apartment where Eddie and Chimney are aggressively mashing buttons on controllers. Chimeny looks over and smirks. Eddie glances over with a soft smile aimed at them. Buck waves.
He turns back to Maddie, still smiling, but frowns when he sees her face. "Stop it."
"I didn't say anything." She's grinning though, and Buck has been on the receiving end of that grin too many times to be so naive.
"Leave it."
Maddie looks like she's going to burst, so he takes her arm and pulls her over to his front door. "Oh was it so cute when you told him? Was he embarrassed?"
Buck mumbled something under his breath.
"What was that?"
He shot a quick glance back towards the couch, letting him have a moment of mourning for his poor game before turning back. "I didn't tell him."
Maddie's eyes went wide, her mouth opening to presumably start shouting at him, but cuts herself off with a garbled noise. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, trying to compose herself. Buck braces himself. "So you're going to stand there and tell me that he told you, to your face, that he loves you-"
"More implied I think."
She slaps his arm and he winces. "Boy if we were alone, I swear to god!" she whisper-shouts. "Are you trying to ruin your friendship?"
"That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid!"
"How is this avoiding anything but your feelings?"
"Because he doesn't know I understand what he's saying!" Maddie gives him her best were-you-not-just-paying-attention-to-the-whole-ass-conversation-we-just-had look. It's very good. She's had a lot of practice. Buck pinches the bridge of his nose and tries to explain himself better. "He isn't comfortable enough to tell me when he thinks I'll know what he's saying. And it's different, he has a kid to think about. And I respect whatever choice he makes."
Maddie puts her hands on his shoulders. "You need to tell him. The fallout will be much worse if you let it continue." She smiles reassuringly at him, then walks back to their drinks on the counter.
--
It's after Maddie and Chimney have gone home for the night that Buck and Eddie have a few more drinks and chat. Eddie's talking about the sleepover Chris is at tonight while Buck zones in and out. How does one even begin to explain the thought process that lead him to keeping this secret? Oh god, he thinks, this is gonna be one of those little white lies that snowballs until I have to take it to my grave-
Fingers snap in front of his face, his eyes managing to focus on the smile on Eddie's face as he looks at him. "You okay?"
This is it. This is when you tell him you speak spanish. Buck opens his mouth, "Um actually," he pauses. Eddie looks at him, expectantly. "Uh, yeah, just tired." Damnit.
"We can turn in for the night," he suggests.
Buck nods, "Wanna spend the night? I've got clothes you could use?" NO. Absolutely not. Because you will share a bed and he will be wearing your clothes and you are a serial cuddler. So NO.
Eddie's smile grows, "I'm more concerned about how you hog the blankets."
Buck gasps in mock offense, shoving at him playfully. "I do not!"
Eddie just laughs.
Fuck. I'm so screwed. He just doesn't realize how screwed until they're laying in his bed, Eddie sprawled out on his stomach and Buck on his back, every muscle coiled tight. It's quiet for a while, long enough that Buck thinks he might have drifted off, but he shifts and his voice comes muffled from the pillows. "I can actually hear you thinking. Please sleep."
Buck rolls his eyes. Jokes on you, I'm not thinking, I'm panicking.
Eddie moves again and now he's looking at Buck. "Is it your leg?"
His heart twists in his chest and he shakes his head. "It's nothing. Probably you rolling around so much."
Eddie's quiet, so Buck turns his head to look. "Podría acostumbrarme a esta vista."
Buck's eyes widen. Then he sees a moment of small panic where Eddie thinks 'what if-?' But it's gone as soon as it arrives. "Just enjoying the blankets while I still can."
He huffs, but it's lighter between them and Buck starts to drift off.
4.
When they wake up, Buck finds he has taken another victim. Eddie had rolled onto his back sometime while they were asleep, and had Buck tucked in close, wrapped around him. Buck doesn't immediately panic because it feels too right. But when he wakes up more, he knows he should move before Eddie wakes up.
Buck tries to be subtle, slowly pulling his limbs back to himself, trying not to wake Eddie in the process. Except when he looks up, Eddie is watching him with a small smile. Buck's heart roundhouse kicks his ribcage and he let's out a startled "Oh."
Eddie just laughs, "Eres tan hermoso."
Buck's mouth falls open, but he doesn't say anything as Eddie extricates himself from Buck's grasp and starts for the stairs. "I'll make breakfast."
Once he's out of sight, Buck throws himself back on the mattress, slapping a hand over his eyes. "Fuck me."
--
He doesn't want to tell Maddie. Partly because she'll lose her shit, but mostly because he knows she's right. He's waited too long already, if Eddie finds out- When. When Eddie finds out. I can't keep this up forever.- he's probably going to be mad.
Buck ends up telling her. Obviously. She has the same reaction he thought she would. "He called you beautiful and said he wants to fall asleep to you?!"
Buck winces and holds the phone away from his ear for a moment. "Uh, basically I guess that was the gist of it."
"THE GIST?!" Buck grimaces, brings one hand up to scrub his face. "And you still didn't tell him?!"
Buck sighs, because he knows, okay? He really does, but he's scared too. "Mads I-"
Her voice is softer. "Buck, I know you're nervous. But you've said it before, you're basically family. Anyone could look at the two of you and Christopher and see how in love you are, see how much you'd do anything for them."
"Yeah but not Eddie." Bucks spins in his chair, he's tired and doesn't know what he's going to do. "If everyone can see how much I love him too, why can't he? Why doesn't he tell me all this? Why does he only say it when he thinks I don't understand?" Maddie sighs, but Buck continues. "I have to assume there's more here than I can see. If he doesn't want me to know, then I don't."
Maddie's quiet for a minute, just the sound of her breathing comes over the phone. Her voice is gentle when she says, "What happens when he finds out?"
Buck kinda just wants to cry. "I don't know, Mads. I don't know."
5.
Buck and Christopher are playing with legos in the living room. Well, Buck is playing, Christopher is actually building something. He's talking about his day at school and that he's excited for the weekend because he gets to see the rest of his family. Buck's listening attentively, asking questions where it matters and nodding along, until he hears a snippet of what Eddie is saying.
The other man is pacing back and forth behind the couch, on the phone with his family in El Paso. They're talking about the barbeque this weekend, presumably what Chris meant when he talked about being excited to see his family. But I'm not supposed to know that.
He's tense when he stops at the farther end of the couch, talking quickly into the phone. "-él debería poder venir, prácticamente está criando a Christopher conmigo." A pause. "No es justo. ¿Has hablado con Abuela?" He's quiet for a few minutes, then, "Christopher ama él. Lo amo él. Él viene, lo quiero allí, y eso es todo."
Eddie hangs up the phone. With his back still to the boys, he lifts his hand to rub his face with a sigh. When he turns around, he meets Buck's gaze. Okay? he mouths. Eddie nods back, and finally smiles. "I'll go grab some snacks, then we can watch some tv?" Buck grins and Christopher celebrates.
It isn't until after they put Christopher to bed and are sitting together on the couch that Eddie tells him about the barbeque.
"I want you to come. I mean," he scratches the back of his neck. "If you want to come, I would like you to."
"Is that what the phone call was about?"
Eddie gives him a long look and Buck thinks, this is when he realizes. But he doesn't, just sighs and says, "Yeah. Some of my cousins are... well, I'll just say difficult. My parents thought it would be best if it was just Christopher and I, but I told them that we want you to go."
Buck is, well, he's- I'm fucked. I love them. Eddie mistakes his silence. "No pressure though," he laughs.
Buck smiles and nods. "Yes. Yeah, I would love to go."
Eddie's smile lights up his face. "Good, cool, that sounds- uh good."
Buck just smiles back.
+1
What Eddie failed to mention when he told Buck about his cousins was that when he said 'difficult' he really meant 'homophobic'. And just as Maddie predicted, it was getting harder to hide that he knew Spanish. Curse her and her intelligence. Luckily, most of the family were happy to see Eddie and Christopher. And, if Buck was feeling less than modest, most of them loved him.
It started out great: playing with the kids until they all tired him out, eating around a huge table filled with family, chatting around. Buck was finding out many blackmail-worthy stories of Eddie when he was a teenager. With each new piece of information, he had to restrain himself from calling the team and telling them everything.
Buck was also finding out that almost everyone in the family thought they were together. Discreetly of course, they let most of it slip in Spanish, so they probably figured he didn't know they were talking about him. Unfortunately for Eddie, he talked about them all the time, and now Buck knew.
After the initial wave of guilt subsided, Buck made a plan. He went to the kitchen to grab Eddie and him another drink. I'm going to tell Eddie when we get back home. Buck was too busy thinking about how to break it to him, when two of the 'difficult' cousins walked into the kitchen behind him. He didn't notice at first, not until they started shit talking in Spanish.
"Es como él no respeta a esta familia." Buck doesn't turn. He's not supposed to understand what they're saying. Calm down. Leave it alone.
"¡Lo sé! ¿No entienden lo asqueroso que es ver eso?" Wow, that was incredibly offensive. He pushes around a few cans, looking for the drinks they had earlier.
"¡Y ahora Christopher está expuesto a eso!" Buck's hand tightens on a glass. Breathe. Don't say anything you'll regret later. It's not your place.
"No me sorprendería que juguete chico de Eddie corrompa al pobre niño."
Buck stands abruptly, smacking his head off the top of the fridge in his haste. His knuckles are white and he has to force himself to turn and smile. "Found it," he tries to make his voice light. With forced casualty, he walks past them to the counter for the bottle opener.
"Es una pena, él podría haber resultado genial." They continued, or more accurately, tried to continue.
Buck spun on them in an instant. "I know it's not my place to say anything to you, but the two of you are cruel and I genuinely don't know how you come from such a kind and supportive family." The women stood there stunned. "What goes on between me and Eddie is none of your business. And Christopher is growing up to be a kind and caring person. If he turns out to be even half the man Eddie is, he'd still be three times better than you." Buck sucked in a breath and crossed his arms over his chest.
"I think it's time you leave." The voice came from behind Buck. He felt his blood run cold when he heard it. He'd know that voice anywhere.
Buck turned to see Eddie standing in the doorway, arms also crossed, expression hard. He watched his cousins walk past him, embarrassment clear in the way they couldn't meet his eyes. He watched until they made it all they way down the hall and back out to the yard.
As soon as Eddie turned back to him, Buck asked, "How much of that did you hear?"
Eddie didn't uncross his arms, expression now cautious and confused. "You know Spanish."
It wasn't a question. Buck nodded anyway. "I know I said things I probably shouldn't have, but when they started talking about Chris I- I don't even know. I just got so mad because you and him are the best people in the world and-"
"What you said is not the problem," Eddie interrupted. Fuck. He was hoping he wouldn't notice. "Why didn't you tell me?" His expression cracked into one of hurt. Buck's heart twisted. "The things I've said- oh my god, Buck, have you known the whole time?!"
A nod.
Eddie ran a hand through his hair, he looked terrified. "Was this a joke to you? See how much I'd say so you could laugh about it later?" Buck tried to intervene, but Eddie seemed to realize more. "Oh my god, I told you I love you. I told my family and- oh my god you were sitting right there!" He slapped his hands to his face. "Everything my family has said, I can't-"
Buck jumped forward, grabbing Eddie's hands in his. "No, no! It wasn't a joke to me! I'd never- I wouldn't- I could never have made this a joke."
Eddie shook his head, but didn't pull his hands away. "Then why?"
Buck ran a hand through his hair, bringing it down to rub his face before grabbing Eddie's hands again. "You have to understand, I tried to tell you. I thought you knew and then the thing you said on the couch made me realize you didn't. Then I told Maddie and she kept telling me to tell you but-" he let out a sigh. "It was just scary, okay? I didn't want to lose what we had, I didn't want to lost Christopher."
"Buck," Eddie's voice was softer. "I literally told you that I love you. How would you making a move ruin anything?"
Buck tried his best unimpressed look. "You only said those things when you thought I didn't understand. I just thought, maybe you needed time. That you'd tell me when you were ready."
"Oh my god. You're an idiot. I'm an idiot. How do we ever get anything done being so stupid?"
Buck laughed quietly. "That's not nice to say when we just had this really emotional moment."
Eddie just rolled his eyes before pulling Buck for a kiss. When he pulled back, he was grinning. "We can't tell the team about this. We'll never know peace."
Buck let his head fall on Eddie's shoulder. "I told Maddie. They definitely already know."

Chapter XIII: you’re as safe as a mountain
Tumblr media
Summary of series: Katie moves from Peachtree, Georgia, to L.A. with her son, Alex, to start fresh after the death of her husband. When she meets Evan Buckley, a young firefighter, she falls fast but will her son be so quick to accept Evan into his life?
Summary of chapter: Katie finally wakes up; Evan feels tremendous guilt over the kidnapping and Alex can’t wait to go home
  Warning: some much needed fluff
Author’s Note: This is gonna be a shorter chapter that’s full of fluff after all those intense chapters. I’m super excited that 9-1-1 is finally back and that we get to see a bit more of Buck’s back story and Uncle Buck. I did think I’d have these last three chapters posted by Monday but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen -- but I should have them all up by the following Monday. I hope you all enjoy this short little fluff! Stay golden, loves! <3
P.S.: The title comes from the song Dynamite by Sigrid which I was listening to for a long time even before I started writing this so, whether or not it fits with the chapter, I kept it as the title because it was stuck in my head.

Evan’s P.O.V
You waited and waited for Katie to wake up; falling asleep as you sat by her side and jerking awake in fear that you might miss when she finally woke up.
“Buck...” your sisters voice whispered to you, “Buck, wake up”
“WHAT?” you shouted quickly before quieting down, “what happened? Did she wake up?”
“No,” Maddie continued, “but you should go home. Take a shower, get a change of clothes. We’ll call you if and when she wakes up”
“I wanna be here when she wakes up” you argued
“Evan,” she sat down beside you, putting her hand on your arm, “you need to rest. She’s here, she’s safe, so is Alex”
“Alex!” you suddenly remembered the little boy, “where is he?”
  “Evan...”
  “What?”
  “Go home”
  “Maddie, I’m not going anywhere”
“The doctors are only saying that we have to be patient. There’s nothing more we can do”
  “I can’t leave. Not again...”
  “What do you mean again?”
  “It’s my fault that they--”
“It is not your fault” she interrupted
“It is!” you countered, “if I hadn’t gotten mad at her, we wouldn’t have gotten into a fight. She never would’ve gone home alone and she never would have been taken. If I had moved faster maybe they wouldn’t have been gone so long...”
“And if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas” Leny said from the doorway
“Leny,” you said, finally standing up, “have you heard anything?”
“No,” she smiled, rubbing your arm before she sat down next to her daughter, “but your sister is right. You should go home. Get some rest, she’ll be okay.”
  “I can’t--”
“Yes,” she interrupted, “you can.” It was useless to argue with her, so you eventually just gave in; hugging her goodbye as Maddie directed you to her car
“Where is Alex?” you asked Leny before you left the room
“With Eddie and Christopher. In the Children’s Ward.” The idea that there was a complete section of the hospital dedicated for Children made your heart break but you managed to find your way there
“Hey kiddo,” you greeted when you saw Alex laughing with Christopher, “how you feelin’?”
“BUCK!” he exclaimed, urging a smile to appear on your face, “when can we go home?”
“We’re still waiting for your mom to w- to feel better” you corrected yourself, not sure how much Alex knew at this point
“I hope we go home soon,” he laughed, “I miss my own bed.” You stayed for a while, laughing with the boys, before you decided it was time you went home to shower -- you were starting to revolt people which was never a good sign. As you took off your jacket, you felt something in one of the pockets so you checked it out only to find Katie’s engagement ring that the doctor had given to you to hold. You found yourself holding your head in your hands as you stared at the small circles in your hand; hopping in the shower for no more than 5 minutes before heading back to the hospital.
“She awake yet?” you said as you got back to the room, finding Alex in the hospital bed with Katie
“Not yet,” Leny replied, “the doctors thought it might be a good idea if Alex came to talk to her. He’s telling her about all the dinosaurs he’s been playing with and how Christopher came to visit him. It’s very sweet.”
“Can I.. go sit beside her?” you asked hesitantly, worrying that she might say no
“Of course” she smiled before planting a small kiss on your cheek. You sat down slowly, listening to Alex’s wild stories about the Children’s Ward and the doctors there, and how Christopher said he was the king of the hospital because he’d been in so many. Leny was right, it was very sweet, but when you looked at Katie -- the feeling faded and you were met with a sense of dread yet again. You took her left hand in yours, kissing the back of it before gently placing her engagement ring and wedding band on her finger. You had heard Eddie, Hen and Chimney talking to Leny about what Katie said in the ambulance and it didn’t take much to put together that she was seeing the ghost of her dead husband; which could only mean that she wasn’t fully over him yet and you didn’t want to rush her into a relationship if she wasn’t ready. Alex and Leny left the room once more so you could be alone with Katie, even if Maddie was insistent that you go home for the night
“I want you to know I’m sorry...” you whispered to Katie as she lay there, breathing tubes helping her chest rise and fall, “I’m sorry for pushing myself into your life when you weren’t ready, when Alex wasn’t ready. I’m sorry I couldn’t stop this from happening to you two, I will never stop apologizing for this. I wish I could’ve been there to help you, I--” A sudden rush of tears fell from your eyes as you squeezed her hand; you weren’t sure you’d ever be able to forgive yourself for letting this happen, even if she could.
xx
Katie’s P.O.V
You woke up slowly, not knowing how long you had been out, and noticed Evan beside the bed before feeling his head resting on your arm and looking around the room. You were incredibly thirsty but you didn’t want to wake Evan while he looked so peaceful, which is why you were grateful to see the doctor
“Hey there sleepy head,” the doctor joked, “we’re going to take the tube out of you now. I need you to breathe when we tell you to, okay?” You nodded in agreement as they prepared to yank the tube from your throat and you gasped as the thick piece of plastic cleared your mouth, “that’s a good girl!” The doctor cooed and you begged for a glass of water, laughing roughly when you noticed Evan still hadn’t woken up, “he must have really needed the sleep.” You tried to speak but nothing came out so you nodded enthusiastically, taking a sip of water slowly to coat your throat before dropping your head back on the pillow. It wasn’t long until Alex was hopping in your bed and telling you stories about one thing or another; it brought a smile to your face just to know that everything that happened hadn’t completely dampened his spirits.
“How are you doing sweetheart?” your mom asked
“I’m fine,” you smiled before turning your head to look at Evan once more, “how long has he been here?”
“He hasn’t left your side since you were admitted” she replied with a small laugh
“He never left once?” you asked
“Nope,” she said, “even after everyone begged him to go home to get some sleep. He just wanted to be here when you woke up.” You rested your hand on his arm, feeling the calmness of his breathing and smiling at the feeling of peace that you got from everyone in the room, your breath hitching in your throat only once when you saw your wedding rings on your finger. When Evan finally opened his eyes, he stayed sitting down but scooched his chair close to you
  “Hey” he whispered
“Hey,” you whispered back, placing your hand on his cheek, stroking his scruff, “you’re fuzzy.” He laughed at your response, taking your hand to kiss the back of it
“Yeah..” he smiled, “I guess I haven’t really been taking care of myself since you...”
  “I like it” you smiled
“I think I’m gonna get rid of it” he laughed
“Okay,” you smirked, catching a glimpse of your hand and taking off your rings, “here...”
  “What?”
“Take these,” you replied, handing them to him and watching his face contort into confusion, “it’s not fair to you that I can’t seem to get rid of these. I know you know I loved my husband but my wearing these... it’s just not fair to you”
“It’s okay. I understand...” he admitted and you furrowed your brow
“Evan...” you said gently, “I don’t want to wear them anymore. I don’t need to.”
“Katie, you don’t have to say this. I don’t want you to rush into something”
“I’m not rushing into anything,” you countered, “and trust me, if there were ever a time for me to rush into something, it would be this. It would be you. I’ve realized how important it is to just live and there’s no one I would rather share everything with than you. Scruff or no scruff.” You laughed before noticing his eyes well with tears
  “I love you” he said
“I love you, too” you smiled, letting Evan slowly lean into you to press a kiss to your lips, careful not to do too much. Shortly after that, Alex came back into your room and jumped on your bed
“Mommy can we watch The Great British Bake Off?” he asked and you laughed, nodding your head before he tucked himself under your arm and you outstretched your arm to Evan
“Well?” you smiled, turning your body, “are you joining us?” His smile grew widely across his face before he practically jumped into the bed and fit his body tightly to yours. You curled your left arm up to lay your hand on Evan’s shoulder as your right arm wrapped behind Alex, the three of you watching The Great British Bake Off before you eventually drifted off to sleep. You had never felt as loved or as safe as you did in that moment and you couldn’t imagine a better way to wake up in a hospital.

The 126 fire station
The shift is coming to an end and no one is complaining about it. It’s been a long day. They haven’t lost anyone but they barely had any time to catch their breath in between calls and one look at his team is enough for Owen to know they are all taking a nap as soon as the truck parks at the station. He is right, as usual. His son is the only one who’s not heading to the bunk room. He had a big smile on his face all day long.
“What makes you so happy son?” Owen finally asks, wanting to know the reason his exhausted son is looking at his phone, smiling, instead of catching up some well-deserved rest.
“Carlos keeps sending me those pictures” TK replies with a huge grin on his face. “It’s his day off, and his mom insisted on taking the kids shopping.”
“Rookie mistake” Owen says. He tried once and his ‘quick shopping trip’ lasted for hours.
“They’ve been in the same store for three hours and Isabella has pretty much tried every piece of clothing she could find” the Strand boy adds while showing his dad all the photos Carlos had sent. The first three are very cute and show Bella wearing the beautiful clothes her grandmother picked out for her. Carlos’ mom is behind her with a bright and hopeful smile on her face. TK keeps scrolling to show his dad the rest of the outfits, dozens and dozens of pictures. From the reflection in the mirror, both men can see Mrs. Reyes’ hopes to leave the store slowly disappearing from her face. The last one is the one that melts TK’s heart the most. It’s a picture of his favorite little monster wearing a yellow hoodie and Carlos added the caption ‘She said she wanted to look like her daddy’.
“If they keep going like that, they will still be at the store tonight.”
“Not a chance” TK assures. “Her big brother won’t miss a dinner at the Diaz's for anything in the world.”
“My little man is not the only one excited about tonight. I can’t wait to see the Buckaroos” says Owen, he looks around them, the firehouse is quiet. His team is sleeping, Michelle is on a call. Something is obviously missing.
“Yeah, it’s weird here without big Buck” TK admits. Buck and him quickly became friends and not seeing him at work every day is weird, but he knows the blonde will be back at work in no time. He knows the whole team looks forward to seeing the youngest Diaz at the station again. Eddie of all people wants him by side, but he will not admit it in front of the others. His husband has a good reason to stay away from his job a little longer.
“We still have one hour left before the end of shift” the captain says. “You should try to rest a bit. I’m sure Buttercup is already warming up your bed.”
One hour of sleep won’t be enough to get properly rested from the long day they had, so TK decides to help his father filling the reports from all the calls they had. He sits on the couch on the corner of the captain’s office and Buttercup comes to sit next to him. They are halfway done with the paperwork when the shift is officially over. The members of the crew come quickly to let their captain know they are heading home.
“Go, son, I’ll finish this alone,” Owen says. “I’ll see y’all tonight, guys”.
“See you” Eddie replies as he’s practically running, eager to come home to his family.
“Are you sure dad?” TK never liked paperwork, but he knows they can get it done faster together.
“Sure. I’m sure Bella is going to want to wear one of her new outfits tonight and she might need some help choosing from everything her grandmother bought her”, the kid’s grandfather says. He knows it’s probably true because no one ever spends more money than him spoiling his three grandkids.
“Okay then, see you soon.”
The Strand-Reyes’ house
TK drives back to his place. He doesn’t have a lot of time before they have to leave for the Diaz’s but he will make the most of the time he has with his family. He walks into the living room and kisses his husband before telling him and Matias about his day. The oldest is still too young to understand everything about his dads jobs but he knows they are both heroes who save people. Owen would love to see him being a third-generation firefighter but he will never influence his grandkids. Luis is playing on Carlos’ lap, stretching his arms towards TK for him to hug him. Owen was wrong about something, Isabella only got two new pieces of clothes. A dress, bought by Carlos’ mother, and the hoodie Carlos bought her. TK knows that she decided to wear this one because she’s holding his in her tiny hands.
“Oh, you want me to wear mine too, huh?” he asks his 3-year-old daughter. TK grabs his hoodie and carefully puts Luis on the couch next to his dad. “I’m gonna take a quick shower and we’ll be ready to go.”
Carlos does not reply. He watched over his baby boy while helping Matias finish the drawing he made as a gift for tonight’s hosts. Owen once told his grandkids to never show to someone’s house empty-handed, and even though the Captain was thinking about the nice bottle of wine he always brings when he’s invited somewhere, he’s glad to see that the boy learned that gesture from him. Matias makes sure to draw something lovely every time, and now the whole team has an original Matias Strand-Reyes drawing on their fridge.
The Diaz’s house
Buck just hang up the phone with Carla. They still facetime from time to time. It’s not the same as having her around, but the Diaz family will always have a soft spot for her. She helped them in so many ways, they won’t ever know how to repay her for everything.
Eddie and the rest of the 126 will be here soon. So Buck sets his phone on the kitchen counter, enjoying the view of his entire family on the screen before opening the recipe he was given last week. He still thinks about Carla and a conversation they had a few years ago.
Buck had come home after a quiet shift. His apartment barely felt like home. He used to love it so much but ended up finding it empty and cold. He was so happy during his shift, smiling while working under the burning LA sun. Somehow, his joy disappeared when he crossed the threshold. He was missing something. He didn’t want to stay at his place, so he texted Maddie but she had plans with Chimney. He texted Carla and she just replied with ‘just get your ass here Buckaroo’. Her husband was working late and she cooked extra food so she didn’t mind having Buck for dinner at her place.
As soon as he arrived, she asked him why he wasn’t with Eddie. The second Eddie’s name left her mouth, she couldn’t place another word. Buck started by explaining the firefighter was having a family dinner with his parents and his Abuela. It was one of those rare times his parents were in town and Buck didn’t want to bother them by coming along, even though Eddie invited him. After explaining that, he never stopped talking. He told Carla about the amazing idea Eddie had at work to save a girl, and then he kept on talking about his best friend. Carla could barely speak. She didn’t mind, she loved that boy. He had a kind heart and she knew it the second he knocked on Abby’s door to help her find her mom. It was getting late and they both knew it because Buck commented on the fact that Eddie and Chris’ dinner was probably done since Eddie had sent him a picture of Chris falling asleep in front of the movie. Helena and Ramon didn’t seem to be there and Buck assumed they went back to sleep at their hotel. Carla looked at him with a huge smile.
“What?” Buck genuinely asked her, not realizing what she was smiling about.
“You’ve been talking about Eddie for two hours Buckaroo.”
“No. I’m-I’m not” he babbled. “I’m just making conversation.”
“It’s okay. I know you love him.”
“Of course I love him. I love all my team” he said, trying to control his voice that started to crack.
“That’s not what I mean. You are in love with him, Buck.”
“I-I’m not. We are best friends. He’s my best friend.” he repeated, more to convince himself to convince her.
He hugged her goodbye, and spent the next hours in his empty apartment, looking around. He saw Eddie’s key on his key ring, the dishes from the dinner they had together the night before were still in the sink, and the shopping list on his fridge had Eddie’s handwriting on it because he knew Buck always forgot important stuff while shopping, so his best friend adds them on the list to be sure he gets everything he needs. Eddie and his son’s presence is everywhere, from Chris’ drawing next to the shopping list on the fridge, to his bedside table where the framed pictures from the first time they went to see Santa together next to the one of him and Maddie. But none of them were in the room, and that was the reason why his place felt the cold. For the first time in a while, he did not spend his free time with the Diaz boys.
Carla was right. He needed Eddie like he needed air. He loved Eddie. This realization scared him. He could not love him. His friend would freak out and leave him if he knew Buck loved him. But Buck was the one freaking out and he couldn’t stop himself from picturing every possible scenario in his head. He was about to grab his jacket to go out when he realized he didn’t even take it off after coming back from Carla’s. He took his key and jumped in his jeep.
Buck can barely hear Eddie coming behind him. The blonde is slightly bending on the kitchen counter, cutting vegetables. It’s one of the rare moments where he looks smaller than Eddie. Taking advantage of Buck’s position, the older man rests his head in between Buck’s neck and his shoulder, lacing both his hands around his husband’s waist and watches him preparing their dinner. Eddie’s muscles are tense from work, and the nap in the bunk room didn’t do any good to his body, but feeling the man he loves in his arms is exactly what he needs to feel better. Buck smells like home; the scent of the dinner he’s cooking, the perfume of the kids shampoo from when he gave a bath to Andrea before and the gentle musk of the aftershave they both use.
It’s their time to host the 126 monthly dinner and Buck wants it to be perfect because he knows these nights are as important for their kids as it is for them. Andrea is always enjoying being around the rest of the kids, and she loves when they are hosting it because she gets to play house and entertain her crowd. Both men know she will be in the kitchen with them in no time, she always is. Eddie notices his husband looks distracted.
“What’s going on in that pretty head of yours?” he said, while both his hands are still around him. His fingers are slowly touching Buck to bring him back from the thoughts he seems to be lost in.
His head is still playing back the memories of the day that changed his life forever.
In front of the Diaz’s door, Buck froze. He turned his back to the door and started walking back to his car. It was late, it was stupid. He should go home. But he moved towards the door again. It was dark and cold outside, and Buck was pacing, not knowing what to do. His heart wanted to go towards Eddie while his head told him to go back home and forget everything Carla told him. But his feet didn’t know who to listen to. He knocked gently on the door before he had time to think about what his mouth was supposed to say.
Eddie looked at him, and smiled before letting him in. He was not really surprised to see Buck at his door. There was always beer in the fridge and his favorite snacks somewhere in case his friend showed up.
“I don’t want to lose you,” Buck whispered. Eddie was close enough to hear it, but he didn’t understand it. Where was this coming from? None of them were injured during their shift, Eddie had no intention of moving out, things were fine and Buck was not making any sense.
“You won’t lose me Buck. I’m fine, and I’m not going anywhere”.
“But I might lose you,” Buck said, a little louder but he looked more scarred that Eddie had ever seen him. “You might never want to see me again.”
“That won’t happen. Not to us.” Eddie promised him, he meant it. He was never gonna let anything come in between them. “Talk to me, man.”
“I can’t. I can’t do this” Buck was turning his back on him, putting his hand on the door handle to run home and forget this. Eddie placed his hand on Buck’s to stop him from opening the door.
“I can’t risk losing what we have” the blonde said, his back still turned away from his friend.
“Okay, now you are scaring me” Eddie confessed, while he gently forced Buck to turn his face to him. He was not letting him go. “What’s going on in that head of yours?”
“It’s not my head that’s the problem.”
“What’s your problem?” as soon as the words left his mouth, they echoed with their argument during his first day, but his tone is gentle. Just like this day, Eddie’s eyes won’t leave Buck.
“You’re my problem” Buck replied, and Eddie’s mind is definitely went back to the gym where they had that heated talk. This time Buck’s voice is not angry. He’s almost whispering and his gaze left Eddie’s eyes to look at the hand, nicely rested on his shoulder, his thumb gently pressed on Buck’s neck, slowly coming up to be on his face, and that’s exactly the problem. His heart is racing against his chest and he feels like if the other man comes any closer his heart will beat so hard he will jump out of his chest and crumble on the floor.
“Did I do something wrong?”
“There is nothing wrong with you, Eddie. You’re perfect, you’re too perfect. I l-” he tried to stop himself but it was too late. The words were half unspoken and he had to finish what he started. Carla’s voice was playing on repeat in his head and Eddie was still looking at him. He didn’t know for how long he was silent. The sound of his heart sounded even louder suddenly as Eddie’s left hand mirrored his right one on the other side of Buck’s cheeks. Using his gentle hold on his face to force Buck to look at him, Eddie broke the unbearable silence.
“There’s nothing you can say that could make me love you less” Eddie said. Buck’s lips were finally moving to say something before he fully registered what the other just said.
“Wh-What?” Buck rambled.
“You heard me Buck” Eddie said softly. But if it meant the face in between his hands can finally stop shaking, he was willing to say it as many times as he needed to. “I’m in love with you, you fool. And I’m seriously hoping that that’s what you were trying to say or I will be the fool”.
Buck nodded, still shaking. He didn’t know what else to do, but Eddie was cupping his head his tender hands, and the shaking stopped when Eddie’s lips met his.
They definitely had to thank Carla for that and she was pretty proud to include this in her toast at their wedding reception years later.
Smiling, Buck fully comes back to reality. Eddie’s body against his is anchoring him to the present. Sometimes it’s still feels like a dream, all of it seems too good to be true. But it is real, as real as Eddie’s breath against the back of his neck.
“I just- I just love you Eddie.” the man declares like it’s the first time. Eddie does not need to hear him say it to know how much his husband loves him. But he will never get tired of hearing those three words.
“And I love you too” he replies while placing a kiss down Buck’s neck. No matter how many times he says these words, he will always feel like the man in front of him is constantly surprised to hear that he is loved. He could repeat them for the rest of their lives if it means to be greeted by the most genuine smile in return. “But this house is soon going to be full of hungry kids” he reminded him before they both lost themselves in the moment “and we don’t want to hear TK bragging about Carlos’ cooking skills.”
“You wanna turn this diner into a cooking competition, Diaz?” Buck teases.
“You know you’ve been a Diaz too for the past five years, right?” Eddie asks and there’s suddenly a wide grin on Buck’s face.
“I know, I just love the sound of that.” Buck sighs when he feels Eddie’s hands leaving his body, but his pout turns into another big smile when he feels his fingers taking the knife out of his hand to help him with the cooking.
Eddie cuts the vegetables left on the kitchen counter when Buck happily starts the rest of the recipe. Andrea appears in between them but has no interest in helping with the dinner. She’s only interested when her dad is making desserts, so she can give a hand and fill her stomach at the same time. By the time Eddie arrived, the cake is already on the oven, so Andrea just hangs with her dads while they do the rest of the boring work. She’s five but she’s already teasing her older dad on his lack of cooking skill.
“Dada” she said while clinging to Buck’s leg, “Don’t let daddy cook. I’m hungry.”
Buck can’t hold his laugh in, and Eddie would be lying if he said he didn’t find it cute. He took her by the hand and guided her towards the cupboard.
“What if you helped me set the table while Dada makes us something we can actually enjoy?” Eddie asked her with a big smile.
Andrea is not complaining, setting the table is something she really enjoys, it’s something usually the grownups do in their house and she feels like a big girl when she is doing it. Eddie gives her the plastic plates for the kids’ table, and she happily walks towards the table where she’s about to have a great time with her friends. She puts the green plate next to hers because she knows it’s Matias’ favorite color. Bella is going to be in front of her, next to Tucker Ryder. And for the rest of the kids, the smaller ones, they will be on their parents’ lap, at the grownup table. Aside from Bella, the other kids never complained about sitting at another table, they all love to have their secret conversations without their parents being here.
“Can I help?” Chris asks. His voice is joyful. He loves those dinners too. Especially since, unlike his sister, he gets to be at the adult table. The 14-years-old has known the 126 for a long time, they are his family.
Before Eddie can think of something he could ask his son to do, the door rang.
“Well, you can welcome our guests, buddy,” he says before jogging to the kitchen to see if the dinner is ready.
“Buck, don’t let dad near the food” Chris jokes before opening the door.
In a few minutes the first guests will arrive and the pressure from the day will vanish, and be replaced with love, laughter and happiness. No matter how tired everyone is after a shift like this one, knowing they are together in this will always make things better.

Prompt: Eddie and Buck hook up one night and Buck  is thrilled and happy. But then he wakes up the next morning and Eddie is gone. For the next few days He’s not answering Buck’s calls or texts and Buck convinced himself that Eddie regrets what happened. Eddie wants to talk to Buck but he is so overwhelmed by his feelings that he doesn’t want to talk until his head is clear. But when he does see Buck again, he’s shocked that buck thinks he regrets their hookup and has to console an upset buck
note: i accidentally deleted this prompt while trying to edit so that’s why it’s not in it’s usual ASK format, my b.
Christopher’s at a sleepover at his friend Paul’s house for the night so Buck invites Eddie over for pizza, some beers, and of course, for a rematch. “Look, I went easy on you last time because Christopher was here and I didn’t want you to get slammed in front of your own kid like that.” he teases.
Eddie grins. “Oh is that so?” he tips his beer back, downing a swig.
Maybe it’s the beer–though between the two of them they’ve barely gone through a six pack–but one minute they’re ribbing each other in the kitchen, and the next Buck’s sitting on the counter and Eddie’s in between his legs, with an arm at either side of him and they’re making out like horny teenagers.
They don’t stop to talk or even take a breath, hurriedly ripping each other’s clothes off as they clumsily make their way upstairs to Buck’s bedroom. Eddie practically tosses Buck onto the mattress and then he’s on top of him, marking a trail down his neck and fuck, Buck can’t remember the last time he felt this desperate. He groans, thrusting his hips into Eddie’s, wanting more. He’s so dizzy with lust he almost can’t believe this is actually happening…
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buck wakes up the next morning to discover that the side of his bed is cold and empty. He shimmies on a pair of boxer shorts and makes his way downstairs. “Eddie?” he calls out, but silence is his only answer. Eddie’s clothes, which had lain strewn across the kitchen and his bedroom floor are gone, and so is the man himself.
“Shit.” This is what he’d been afraid of. This is why he hadn’t made a move before last night. Buck shakes his head to rid himself of those thoughts. There are other reasons Eddie could have for leaving without saying anything; other reasons besides regret, that is.
Buck calls him but gets sent straight to voicemail after a couple of rings. Sighing, he chooses to text him instead. He’s not sure what to say, except a simple: Hey?
He’s not working today, and neither is Eddie, if he remembers the schedule right--it’s Saturday and their next shift together isn’t until Monday.
Buck really hopes Eddie responds or even calls him back before then, because he doesn’t think he can stand to wait until then to talk.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buck texts him again on Sunday: Everything ok?
And still nothing on Eddie’s end. It’s frustrating and the idea that he might’ve just ruined his relationship with his best friend is driving him up a goddamn wall.
Maddie invites him out to lunch but he declines, lying that he’s busy today. He knows that if he were to see her he wouldn’t be able to help himself and he’d end up spill all of his insecurities and anxieties over what happened. And the way it’s looking, it’s likely that Eddie regrets having slept with him and would prefer to keep it a secret.
That thought stings and Buck spends most of his lazy Sunday curled up in bed listening to very cheesy sad love songs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning rolls around and Buck thinks about calling out sick. Partly because he doesn’t know how to face Eddie after what happened over the weekend---he couldn’t stand it if his fears were to be confirmed. And in part because he spent the night before tossing and turning and never did actually get any sleep beyond a couple of very restless hours.
He wakes up with a headache pounding behind his right eye and by the time he parks his car in the lot at work he’s starting to reconsider his decision not to call out of work. He’s absolutely miserable.
“G’morning Buck, how was your weeke---woah, hey, you alright?” Bobby stops him on his way into the station, concern knitting his brows together.
Buck sighs. “I’m ok, just tired. My upstairs neighbors were partying all night so I didn’t really get a lot of sleep.” he lies. He can’t tell his Captain the truth. Though sometimes Buck has a sneaking suspicion that Bobby has already caught onto the stupidly longing looks Buck can’t stop giving Eddie...
Bobby pats him on the shoulder and squeezes lightly. “C’mon, it’s still early, take a nap in the bunks.”
Of course that’s the exact moment in which the alarm decides to sound.
Bobby gives him a sympathetic look but Buck shakes it off. He’s got a job to do.
He and Eddie end up riding on different rigs to the emergency call and even when they’re on the scene Eddie, who’s usually standing by his side, stays as far away as possible, lingering on the sidelines, waiting for orders.
The Captain sends Chim and Hen to search the first five floors of a building for anyone who hasn’t left the offices during the fire drill, and sends Buck and Eddie to check floors six through ten.
Eddie and Buck take the stairs up in silence, the only sound being their heavy footsteps as they climb in full gear.
They start at the top and make their way down, clearing the floors as they go. It’s only when they reach the sixth floor that either man speaks to the other.
“Hey, listen, about Friday...” Eddie starts, pausing to get his thoughts together.
Buck gulps, stopping dead in his tracks. He turns around, nervousness making his stomach queasy.
“I know I left kind of suddenly, the next morning.” Eddie sighs, looking away.
Buck’s palms are clammy and his headache is not letting up and he really shouldn’t have skipped breakfast this morning. He’s starting to feel faint, especially after climbing ten flights, wearing roughly an extra forty to fifty pounds of firefighting gear to top it off. He’s glad this isn’t a real emergency, and just a drill.
“Buck?” Eddie notices the way his best friend is swaying on his feet and closes the distance between them quickly, grabbing his shoulders to help keep him fully upright. “What’s wrong? Is it the blood thinners?” He read in a medical journal, after Buck was started on the Warfarin by his doctor, that a possible side effect might include the occasional dizzy spell.
Buck shakes his head blearily, his hands coming up to grasp Eddie’s, to steady himself. “Sorry, I think I need to sit down.” he breathes out.
Eddie helps him take off all of the gear and then he wheels an office desk chair under Buck’s butt. “I’m gonna’ call Cap.”
“No!” Buck half shouts. He stands up too fast and nearly makes himself sick. Not that he has anything in his stomach to throw up.
“Woah, it’s ok, sit, sit, I won’t call Bobby, just sit for me, yeah?” Eddie gently pushes him back into the seat. “You’re pale, did you take your meds this morning?”
Buck nods. “It’s not that.” he looks away, “I just, I had trouble sleeping last night...and the night before that, and I was too nervous to eat this morning so I skipped breakfast and that combined with no sleep for the past two days plus,” he gestures vaguely towards the stairwell. “It’s nothing, I just need to eat something and I’ll be fine. If Bobby hears about this he’ll freak.”
Eddie searches in one of his various pockets and comes up with a granola bar---blueberry, Buck’s favorite--- “Here, eat this. I’m gonna get you a cup of water.” He fills a plastic cup with water from the office cooler and hands it to Buck after he’s eaten at least half the bar.
“Thanks.” Buck actually feels a lot better. He could still use a good eight hours of sleep, if he’s being honest with himself.
Eddie chews on his lip. “Buck, I’m sorry.”
Buck looks up. “What?”
“It’s because of me, right? That you couldn’t sleep, and that you couldn’t eat this morning? I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have left without saying anything like that. I just needed some time to gather my thoughts, but I realize now that wasn’t fair to you.” Eddie grimaces.
Buck shakes his head. “No, it’s fine, Eddie, you had every right to leave, I totally get if what happened that day between us, if you regret that, and if you never wanna’ speak of it again, I respect that, I won’t say anything, we can pretend it never happened.” Buck finally looks up, fear and anxiety brewing in those baby blues. “But I can’t not be friends, Eddie; if I fucked everything up by acting on these feelings I’m so sorry and I promise I’ll keep them under wraps. You’re my best friend, I---” he stops himself, clenching at the armrests in despair. “Can we please please pretend Friday night never happened. I’ll never bring it up again and we can go back to normal, I swear.” it breaks his entire heart to say the words, but if it’s between nothing and hiding his true feelings, he’ll take the latter.
Eddie takes a big deep breath and kneels down in front of Buck, so that he’s staring up at him, his big brown eyes shining. “Is that really how you feel? About us? About what happened on Friday? Be honest with me, I promise I won’t be mad.”
Buck tries to say ‘Yes, that’s how I feel. It’s gonna’ be weird, please let’s stay friends’ but he can’t lie. Not when he’s looking into those eyes. Not when Eddie’s hand is on his knee, not when the man carries around an assortment of his favorite granola bars in his work clothes....
“Fuck, Eddie,” his voice cracks. “I’m so in love with you it’s stupid. I’m sorry.” his breath hitches, and maybe it’s the days of waiting by his phone anxiously, the lack of sleep, who knows, but actual tears spring up in his eyes and Buck is embarrassed to find himself shedding tears. As if this wasn’t humiliating enough.
He’s waiting for Eddie’s rejection. Bracing himself for the “I’m sorry I don’t feel the same”.
“I’m sorry.” he starts.
And there it is. Fuck. Why does he always have to wear his stupid heart on his stupid sleeve? Fuck.
“I left because I was overwhelmed by my own feelings and I needed time and space to sort through everything. I’m sorry I didn’t communicate better. I just kinda’ ghosted you like an asshole.” Eddie reaches up and takes Buck’s face into his hands. “I have been in love with you for longer than I’d cared to admit. Friday night was amazing and I’m just sorry it took me so long to finally act on my feelings. Buck, I love you so much it drives me crazy just thinking about it. When I woke up Saturday morning and you were there, sleeping beside me? God, I was so happy I didn’t know what to do with myself. I haven’t been that happy in so long I honestly didn’t know what the hell to do with myself. That scared the crap out of me so I ran. I’m sorry.”
Buck doesn’t hesitate, throwing himself from the chair and into Eddie’s arms, colliding into him with an oomph!
Eddie holds Buck tight, arms wrapping around his waist to pull him in closer. “I love you.” he says again, pulling back only slightly, and only so they can lock lips. This kiss is different than their first, which was hot and unthinking and desperate. This kiss is soft and tender and so so warm and Buck groans into it, melts into Eddie’s embrace.
“Not to ruin the mood, boys, but uh, your comms are still on, so whenever you two are done um, clearing that last floor, please report back to the rig.” Captain Nash’s extremely amused voice rings out on their comms, startling the men into bumping foreheads. They can hear Hen and Chim giggling like school kids in the background.
Eddie clears his throat. “Copy that Cap.”
Immediately they turn off their comms and both break out into uproarious laughter.
“Well shit.” It was no wonder they’d been left undisturbed up until now, when they’d clearly taken much too long to check the measly five floors they’d been assigned...

Skies on Fire
Author: Lopithecus Pairing: Evan “Buck” Buckley/Eddie Diaz Rating: General Audiences Word Count: 2905 Alternate: AO3 Summary: "'Okay, Mister ‘I don’t like the 4th of July.’ What’s your opinion on fireworks?' Chim asks.
Eddie shrugs and scrunches up his nose in that way Buck finds adorable. 'They’re loud.'"
It's the 4th of July and Eddie hates fireworks. Warnings:
PTSD
Mild Hurt/Comfort
Eddie Diaz has PTSD
Author's Note: I can’t believe no one has written a 4th of July Buddie fic (that I could find using the search function at least. If there is one, please send me a link because I would love to read it.) So, obviously I had to write one myself. Enjoy!
Buck loves the 4th of July. He loves the excitement that it instills in everyone, he loves the celebration of it, the food that is served during the cookouts, and most importantly, Buck loves the fireworks that are set off at night. Overall, the day is usually filled with good spirits and lots and lots of food.
The first year Buck was in L.A. for the 4th of July, Bobby had hosted it at the firehouse, cooking for the entire team. The second year, Athena had hosted it at her house, inviting Buck, Hen, Chimney, Maddie, and Eddie over for the cookout in which, again, Bobby was cooking. Eddie, however, had declined the invite, claiming he was going to spend it with his own family but when Buck asked Christopher about it later, Christopher had informed him that Eddie had not gone with him to his Abuela’s and that Pepa had brought Christopher there. When he then questioned Eddie about it, the man had completely avoided answering. Buck filed it away as an Eddie Diaz mystery he’ll probably never get an answer to and moved on. This year, they all are scheduled to work.
Buck struts into the station, clothes bag slung over his shoulder. It’s going to be a long 24-hour shift but Buck isn’t going to let that ruin his mood. Bobby had promised to cook for everyone again and he’s honestly looking forward to it. Plus, if they’re lucky, they’ll be out on a call, outside, when the fireworks start. Of course, Buck doesn’t want a life-threatening call to happen just so he can watch the fireworks, but if there’s a scared cat stuck up in a tree then he’ll take it.
He walks into the locker room where Hen, Chimney, and Eddie are already halfway through changing. Buck tries to not watch Eddie as the other man gets dressed, approaching his own locker to get into his uniform. “Who’s ready for the 4th of July rush?” Buck asks enthusiastically, giving a quick glance towards Eddie who is currently shirtless.
Eddie gives him a wary, curious look. “What do you mean?”
“People are dumb on the 4th of July,” Hen answers for Buck as Buck forces himself to look away from Eddie and opens his locker to start changing. “There’s always more calls than on a usual day because people like to set off fireworks that they got illegally or play with firecrackers that end up blowing up in their hand or in their face or in their pants.”
Eddie’s head tilts at that last statement, blinking in confusion. “Their pants?”
Hen shakes her head. “You don’t want to know.”
Buck chuckles, shucking off his pants and pulling on his uniform bottoms. “I love the 4th of July.”
“More like you love Cap’s cooking,” Chimney states from behind him, shutting his locker a little too loudly.
“I do,” Buck agrees, pulling his shirt off and turning to Chimney. “But I also love everything else to do with the 4th of July.”
“Here we go,” Hen mumbles.
Buck turns to her, smile in place. “Come on Hen, you have to agree that fireworks are awesome.”
Hen gives him a small smile. “Okay, the 4th of July isn’t that bad but I just hate how stupid people get during it.”
“Well, I’m with Buck,” Chimney says. “I love the 4th of July. It’s one of the few days you actually have a valid excuse to get absolutely drunk off your ass.”
Buck turns to Eddie. “Eddie?”
Eddie looks up from where he was studying his button up to his uniform. “Hmm?”
Buck smiles at him. “Do you like the 4th of July?”
“I hate it.”
All of them look at Eddie with surprise. Buck’s eyes go wide in shock. “What! No, Eddie, no one can hate the 4th of July!”
“I’m pretty sure other countries hate it, Buck,” Hen comments.
“Okay, if you’re an American, you can’t hate it,” he amends. “You’re, like, obligated to like it.”
Eddie watches Buck as he slides on his button up. “Sorry, Buck, but I just don’t like the 4th of July.”
“But why?” he asks but Eddie just shrugs. “Okay, what about fireworks? Everyone loves fireworks. Hen?”
Hen finishes tying her boots and stands. “They’re pretty, I guess.”
“Come on, Hen!” Buck pouts at her. “I love fireworks! They’re amazing, you know! With all the colors and how big they can get.”
“They do have a certain appeal to them,” Chim mentions with a small laugh before turning towards Eddie who is staring absently into his locker. “Okay, Mister ‘I don’t like the 4th of July,’ what’s your opinion on fireworks?” Chim asks.
Eddie shrugs and scrunches up his nose in that way Buck finds adorable. “They’re loud.” He quickly looks at all of them before turning back to his locker to dig around in it.
Buck’s heart drops as realization starts setting in while Hen huffs a laugh, heading towards the door. “Yeah, and they scare animals all over.” She leaves the room, Chimney following her with an amused smile, both apparently oblivious to what Eddie is implying.
Buck watches them go, frown now set in place on his face. Turning back to Eddie, he watches silently as the man continues to dig through his locker, looking slightly panicked. Buck thins his lips, deep in thought, before reaching into his own locker and picking up a small packet of earplugs. He walks over to Eddie and holds them out. “Here.”
Eddie looks down at them, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. His eyes lift to Buck. “How’d you know?”
Buck shrugs. “Good guess.” Eddie gives him a thankful smile and takes the earplugs, fiddling with the package.
Eddie gestures towards his locker, not meeting Buck’s eyes. “I thought I had brought some but I guess I forgot. Why do you have some?”
Buck smiles at him reassuringly. “I wear them when I try to get some sleep here. I can still hear the bell if it goes off but not everything else.” Eddie nods at his explanation and Buck wishes he could make this easier on Eddie. He’s obviously feeling a little embarrassed. “What did you do last year?” Buck tries, hoping he won’t be shot down this time.
Eddie sighs heavily and shuts his locker, shoving the earplugs into his pocket for later. “I closed all the windows in the house, turned on the TV full volume, and blasted music in my ears.”
“Did it work?” Eddie just shrugs. “Are you going to be okay? I’m sure Bobby wouldn’t care if you went home.”
Eddie shakes his head, walking past Buck. “I can’t let this dictate my life, Buck. You guys need me today so I’m going to be here.”
“But Eddie-”
“No, Buck,” Eddie stops him. “I’ll be fine.” He walks away then, clearly ending the conversation there.
*~~~*
As Hen had predicted, it’s a busy day. Since eight in the morning to eight at night, there have been fifteen calls. From fires to car accidents to people having firecrackers blow up in their faces, everything that is going to happen seems to be happening. They are just getting back from their last call of a child stuck up in a tree that the nine-year-old decided to climb up, when they get another call of a possible drowning in a pool.
Buck has noticed how on edge Eddie has been all day; quiet, more so than usual, and hyperaware of his surroundings. He can’t seem to relax and as Buck sits next to him on the firetruck, he can feel just how stiff Eddie is holding himself. He wishes he knew how else to calm his best friend down but knows that anything he says won’t help in the slightest.
Buck nudges Eddie’s shoulders, getting his attention. “Hey, you might want to put the earplugs in now. The fireworks are going to be starting soon.”
Eddie nods and reaches into his pocket. He frowns, removes his hand, and reaches into his pocket on the other side. This hand also comes out empty. “They must have fallen out at some point.”
Buck is frowning now as well, full of concern. “You going to be okay?”
Eddie nods curtly. “Yeah, I’ll be fine.”
Buck can feel Bobby’s eyes on them from the front, the older man glancing over his shoulder. Neither he nor Eddie acknowledges Bobby’s look. Buck figures Bobby has probably figured out the problem already anyway.
It doesn’t take them much longer to arrive on the scene. Hen and Chimney pull the ambulance around, parking it in a way that will make transporting the injured party into the vehicle easier. They all rush over to the scene, following the wife of the man who almost drowned.
They get to work right away, Chimney doing chest compressions as Hen and Eddie work on hooking him up to fluids and air. The husband comes back quite quickly to everyone’s relief and coughs up water. Moving him onto a backboard and then to a gurney, they all make their way over to the ambulance, loading the man in and letting the wife follow. She says her thanks and Chimney shuts the back doors, Hen driving away with the sirens blaring. Overall, it’s a smooth mission and nothing goes wrong.
That is, until the first firework booms in the air, bright and loud.
Eddie flinches so violently, that he knocks into Buck, and, Buck not having expected that, they both go tumbling down to the ground. Buck lands on his bottom, catching himself with his hands and causing pain to shoot up into his arms from his wrists. Bobby is crouching in front of them, asking them if he’s okay and another firework soars in the night sky and explodes in a beautiful hue of blue.
Buck ignores Bobby’s questioning and turns to Eddie who is also sitting on the ground except that his legs are drawn up close to him and his head is dipped between his knees with his hands covering his ears. He’s stiffened up even more than he has been all day and Buck can see tremors running through his body. Buck scrambles up, reaches out to touch Eddie, but then stops short. He quickly pulls his hand back.
“Eddie?” he begins gently. “Eddie, it’s Buck. Can you hear me?”
Eddie doesn’t give Buck an answer, doesn’t even look up at him, but Buck can hear Eddie’s heavy breathing and quiet sobs. Bobby places a hand on Buck’s shoulder, getting his attention. “I need to get back. You got this?” Buck nods. “When he’s back, bring him home. You two can end your shift early.”
“Are you sure?” Buck asks.
Bobby nods towards Eddie. “Take care of him.” He then gets up and leaves, giving Eddie one last concerned look. Buck knows that if Bobby could, he would stay too, but he can’t. Not on one of their busiest days.
Buck watches Bobby leave before turning his attention back to Eddie. “Eddie? Can I touch you?” Still, he gets no answer. “I’m going to touch your knee, okay?”
More fireworks are shooting up in the sky, getting closer to the grand finale. He knows they aren’t helping the situation at all. Another loud and bright firework makes Eddie flinch again and his entire body shudders as a whimper escapes from his mouth.
Buck slowly stretches his arm out, gently placing a hand on Eddie’s knee. Eddie doesn’t react to it, doesn’t look up at Buck but also doesn’t jerk away from the touch so Buck figures it must be fine to do so. He continues to talk to Eddie, keeping his voice low and calm. “Eds, you’re out on a call. You’re in someone’s backyard, near the pool. What you are hearing are fireworks. They are not bombs, you’re no longer in Afganistan, you’re safe.”
The finale to the fireworks starts up and Eddie curls into himself more, pulling away from Buck’s hand. Buck doesn’t try to touch him again, waits the finale out, and then tries again when everything settles.
“Eddie, it’s still Buck. Can you hear me?” A small nod. “Okay, listen to my voice. Again, you are not in Afganistan anymore. You’re in L.A. and those were fireworks, not bombs. You’re safe. I’m here. You’re not in danger.” Eddie lifts his head some but doesn’t look at Buck. His eyes are far away, not really focusing on anything. “Can I touch you again?” Another small nod. Buck crawls a little closer, places a hand on Eddie’s shoulder.
“Can you feel the ground?” Eddie nods. “Can you feel my hand?” Again, a nod. “Okay, what do you see? What do you see around you, where you’re safe?”
It takes Eddie a few tries and Buck repeating the question again before he can answer him. “You.”
“What else?”
Eddie swallows and lifts a shaky hand to wipe the tears away. He’s still not very focused, blinking rapidly. “You.”
“Okay,” Buck says, moving on. “What can you hear. Can you hear me?”
“Yes.”
“What else can you hear? What else can you hear in this backyard where you’re safe? Where you’re safe with me? You’re safe.”
Eddie’s eyes flutter shut and his face scrunches in agony. “Open your eyes,” Buck tells him and he does. “Can I hug you?” Eddie nods and Buck maneuvers himself so he’s sitting down at an angle to Eddie, wrapping his arms lightly around the smaller man. He wants to be sure Eddie can still see him but also ground him more in the present by giving him more physical touch. “Now what can you hear besides my voice?”
Eddie is still shaking but his muscles relax. Still he doesn’t answer Buck, staring off into the distance. “Eddie?” Eddie snaps back.
“The pool. I can hear the…” a long pause as Eddie blinks. “The pool.”
“Okay, good. Can you hear the water in the pool?”
“Yeah.”
“Can you still hear me?”
“Yeah.”
“What can you smell?” Buck asks, moving onto the next sense. “What do you smell around you, here and now?” He carefully rubs a hand up and down Eddie’s bicep, gauging Eddie’s reaction. He doesn’t reject the movement so Buck continues doing it.
“I can smell…” Again, Eddie quiets, staring at the ground. His body is relaxing though so Buck decides that what he is doing must be working at least a little.
“Eddie, what do you smell?” he asks again.
Eddie blinks, doesn’t answer, and Buck asks for the third time. “I smell your cologne or… or deodorant.” He sinks into Buck, blinking slowly. “I smell… I can smell the pool. Freshly cut grass.”
“Good, now I want you to describe to me, if you could choose any place, where would you want to be at this very moment?” Buck chuckles. “It doesn’t even have to be attainable.”
Eddie licks his lips, rubs a hand slowly over his knee, and looks like he might dissociate again but then he starts talking, voice slow and slightly slurred. “At home with Christopher and you.”
“Yeah?” Buck smiles. “What would we be doing?”
Eddie does dissociate again, staying quiet for several minutes before Buck can get him back and ask the question once more. “Watching a movie.”
“What movie?”
“I don’t know.”
“Describe to me the scene you’re thinking.”
Eddie’s hand rubs over the ground and he lifts his hand to look at his palm. He stares at it for a few seconds before placing it down on the ground again. Buck repeats what he said. “Christopher would be sitting on the floor in a heap of blankets. You and I would be on the couch, sitting close.”
“Like this?”
Eddie nods. “Yeah. One of us would be holding the other and…” he trails off.
Buck runs a hand through Eddie’s hair, deciding to end it there. “Can you stand?”
Eddie swallows and nods. They both stand up, Eddie swaying in his spot. Buck can tell he’s not entirely back with him, the other man looking around his surroundings as if confused as to where he is. Buck orders an Uber and when it arrives, he carefully guides Eddie inside it.
They arrive at Eddie’s place and Buck immediately transports Eddie to his bed, helping him to undress and lie down in it. “You’re home now, Eddie. Do you know where you are?”
“Home,” he answers. “I’m home.” He’s coming back now, getting more alert. Still, he looks exhausted with his eyes droopy and slow movements. “Thank you for helping me, Buck.”
Buck sits down on the edge of the bed and runs a hand through Eddie’s hair. “I’ve got your back, Eddie.” He shrugs. “And next year, we’ll be more prepared. No more losing the earplugs.”
Eddie chuckles at that, eyes sparkling with amusement. “Deal.”
They stare at each other for a long time before Buck finally asks, “Do you want to talk about it?”
Eddie shakes his head. “No.” Buck nods, accepting that answer. “But I would like it if you stayed.”
“Yeah, of course, I’ll stay.”
“No, I mean in the bed.”
“With you?” Buck asks.
“I feel safer with you.” Eddie is avoiding eye contact but the statement makes Buck smile nonetheless.
“I’ll stay, then.”
Eddie smiles, small and soft, eyes closing slowly. “Thank you.”
Buck leans down and presses a kiss to Eddie’s temple. “Always.”

A/N: And there you have it. Though I do think fireworks are pretty I also think they are obnoxious and loud, and, since they are literally bombs going off in the air, I can’t imagine Eddie not having some kind of reaction to them.
Thank you to this website that helped me write what Buck should do for Eddie during his flashback.
Thank you for reading!
