Headcanon: adult Dawn has very high expectations for herself. Think "Surface Pressure" from Encanto, except she doesn't have any siblings. I think part of it is the nepotism, and it also doesn't help that she placed in 2nd at her first ever grand festival.

She's always on the go. She's either laser-focused on strategies and techniques for her upcoming contests, or she's just being whimsical and letting the moment take her where it pleases. There's no in between; both modes sustain each other. She's a natural morning person, no coffee needed. She loves being around people and Pokémon as often as possible, and her instinct is to talk a lot (preferably to someone, but sometimes herself) or to play with an object in her hands.

Wallowing isn't in her vocabulary; she will "no need to worry" herself and her friends into oblivion. Failing that, she either throws herself into new situations in the hopes that they'll distract her; or, if it's not too intimidating, she searches for a way to squash that worry on-sight. She will not go to bed until she's worry-free, and if she needs to wake someone up in the middle of the night to talk through a problem, then she absolutely will.

She often gets tunnel vision - she'll take action without anticipating the full impact, and it takes her awhile to recognize her harmful behaviors and patterns. However, once she does recognize them, her first question is a sincere and neutral "What can I do better?" (She'll still clap back at petty insults all day long, though.)

This also applies to her relationships - if a loved one is going through something, she will stop at nothing to find a solution. In fact, especially in her romantic relationships, she sometimes puts too much pressure on herself to fix others' problems, not quite understanding that others have different ways of coping, or that no one person can be *everything* for someone else.

Going back to my first point, Dawn's greatest fear is failure. And to her, failure is anything less than the very best - be it in her career, or in her ability to show up for those she cares about. I saw someone else post about how Dawn's offscreen character development into JN is about learning to enjoy contests for the experience and not for the pressure of achieving the same legacy that her mom did, and I absolutely love that! I'm not sure if *my* Dawn is there yet (even if she's gotten used to losing multiple grand festivals), but that would be an essential hurdle for her to overcome for sure!

im not excited for pokemon z because i have zero faith in gamefreak, as we all should at this point, but i do hope it is good. i do hope it’s another chance for kalos to really wow people. i remember getting Y back when it came out, and it was. Fine. the most Fine pokemon game i’ve ever played, then and now. it had the unfortunate fate of being a follow up to black/white 2 (some of the best pokemon games ever made) and being the mainline transition to 3D (something they’re still struggling with tbh.) they suffer a lot from those growing pains, a lot of x/y feels underdeveloped or bland. but i really hope this game gives the region new life because all the pieces were there.

actually in relation to ur last ask about Unova

there’s actually so many differences to the US it’s very fun to see, like obviously in terms of geography and social life it’s very similar with lots of tech and high rise buildings mixed with more country settings but still

for one Unova is actually said to be quite a closed off region hence why in BW there is only Unovan pokemon in the wild during the campaign, which is very different to the US which is quite the culture melt (granted B2W2 has other region mons but shh)

Also even when compared to some of the other pokemon regions Unova has always stood out to me as being quite noticeably religious/superstitious- they have things like a zodiac, phrases and sayings relating to their legendaries, etc

(Don’t get me wrong the US is quite religious and stuff but not really any more than most other countries so that’s one of the reasons Unova stands out so much to me idk lmao)

Considering that BW/Unova was their first step outside of Japanese-based regions (i think i recall that being one of the big selling points back then), it makes sense that it would still take a lot of artistic differences compared to later ones, which def feel closer to their real-life inspiration (though that could also do with them all being muuuuch smaller land wise but, eh). And the isolation part also makes sense what with it being like. Ways away from the regions we knew at the time. It was kinda a first step out, testing the waters~ I don’t think if we got Unova now, it would be anything like the Unova we got then.

Unova is definitely something else! I never actually thought about it, but your kinda right about the religous aspect, though I think Alola had shades of it as well now, heh. I still hold to my original belief that BW is one of the best gens, story-wise and imagination-wise! taking this step back into BW reminded me how much I liked it back then. =w=
