Snippets under the cut
From: To Heal a Broken Mind:
I just hold him, stroking his hair, as he slowly comes back to himself.
Finally, his eyes open. “Wha’ happened?” he slurs.
“A seizure,” I say shortly.
“Why ‘m I on the ground?”
I don’t want to distress him right now, so I simply say, “it was worse than usual.”
From: Westward Son:
I’m a damned coward. I watched my friends and family arrive and make camp from the dense branches of a weeping willow. I watched them go through their evening routine and, one by one, settle in for the night. And then I stood vigil for the rest of the night.
I waited until Baz was out of sight this morning before I returned to the wagon train. I couldn’t face both of their reactions at once.
From: Raising Dragons:
Baz is exhausted. He had his exams this last week, and tonight is the first time he’s been able to sleep in our bed in a week, after nodding off over his notes every other day. I’m not even back to work yet. I don’t go back for months, so it is most definitely my turn to take the nighttime wake ups.
I’ve got to step up. Be a dad. But I don’t know how.
From: Saving Simon Snow (New chapter tonight!):
“Y–you…you want to…do that? With me?” Merlin, I’ve thrown Baz so off his game that he’s actually stuttering.
“I…” I pause, wondering what the right thing to say here is. I think we probably should have sex, yes, because I don’t trust Baz’s family or any of the other old families not to come up with a way to legally annul this marriage. It’s definitely occurred to me that they could decide to throw me back in prison now, and Baz would survive it just fine, since the conditions of his vow were met when his father had me released the first time.
From: my COBB (it has a name, but the name is a spoiler!):
I’m back at the front gates, and beginning to draw a crowd.
Some of the newcomers are clearly guards or something, because they’re wearing the same strangely mediaeval looking uniform as the angry guy. But a lot of them are kids. Some as young as ten or eleven, I think.
Is this a school? Or an orphanage?
And I got inspired by a convo on the COTTA discord, so here's the bare beginnings of an Age of Sail AU (yes, a fucking seventh WIP) (Soon to be 8 unless I finish one of the nearly done ones first):
He’s standing across from me, frowning fiercely as I take my time thinking through the order he’s just given me.
“Show me the cargo hold, cabin boy!”
The command, uttered in the perfectly posh and self-assured accent of the SS Watford’s most obnoxious passenger, caught me by surprise. Tyrannus Basilton, or Baz, as I’ve heard his mother calling him, has ignored me for the most part, since we set sail from the port of Southampton. When he’s come across me in his explorations of the ship, he doesn’t say anything, he just stares at me like I’m something particularly foul that he’s just stepped in.
I hate him.
From my other mystery project, which I've decided to share the name of today (I don't think it's too spoilery), The Naked Next:
“Well, everything looks right as rain, here,” I say, smiling at her coolly. “In fact, if you were any more perfect, you’d be in biology textbooks.”
“I am in biology textbooks,” she says flatly. “My physiology is unique, after all.” I stare at her, wondering if she’s kidding. Her lips remain a flat line and her eyes are flinty. I fight the urge to roll my eyes.

NJPW Dominion 2021
Naito, Sanada, and Bushi vs. Taichi, ZSJ, and Douki -- I really enjoyed this, as I enjoy essentially anything involving Naito and Zack. Glad to see LIJ get the win here, and stoked for a potential LIJ vs. Dangerous Tekkers tag title match. Something fresh and exciting in this tag division at long last. Winner: Naito, Sanada, and Bushi
El Desperado (c) vs. Yoh for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship -- This was a good match. Good work on Yoh’s injured leg by Desperado. Thought the leg work would have lead to a submission finish, but this was fine. Yoh looked really good here. I would like to see him get a run with that title at some point, but Desperado having his first successful defense here is fine with me. Winner: El Desperado
Kota Ibushi vs. Jeff Cobb -- Grudge match following Cobb's attack on Ibushi after Ibushi lost his title. After Cobb's talk about wanting murder-Ibushi, this match didn't feel especially heated or angry. I think I like that though. Cobb isn't on Ibushi's level, and Ibushi doesn't need to go to that place to beat him. The match was good and, thankfully, only went 15 minutes. What a relief. This is proof that a match doesn't need to be 30+ minutes long to be good and serviceable. Winner: Kota Ibushi
Shingo Takagi vs. Kazuchika Okada for the vacant IWGP World Heavyweight Championship -- LET'S GOOOOOO. Shingo works on Okada’s midsection throughout the match, targeting his endurance. Shingo gets Okada up for an Argentine backbreaker, which is followed by a single-leg gutbuster and then a second double-leg gutbuster. Shingo pummels Okada with fists, chest chops, and headbutts in the corner! Okada responds with a viscous shotgun dropkick and a barrage of elbows to Shingo’s head!! BEAUTIFUL counter of a sliding lariat attempt by Shingo into the Money Clip by Okada!!! NASTY Made in Japan from Shingo to Okada on the floor!!!! Holy shit!!!!!!! Okada barely rolls back into the ring at 19!! Shingo counters Okada’s Rainmaker attempt into a Rainmaker of his own!! Okada lands two Rainmakers, then attempts a third, which is once again countered into a Rainmaker from Shingo!!!!! Huge pumping bomber by Shingo!! Okada kicks out!! Last of the Dragon attempt by Shingo is countered into a Rainmaker attempt by Okada, but Shingo counters and avoids it!!!! Dragon suplex by Shingo!!! Sliding forearm by Shingo!!!! Shingo finally hits Last of the Dragon!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1, 2, 3!!!!!!!!! Oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!! He actually did it, I am freaking out!!!!!! This match was absolutely great. These two work so well together. I loved their NJ Cup match, and I loved this. Winner: Shingo Takagi
Shingo calls out Ibushi after the match. They face off in the ring and I am going insane!!! I cannot wait for this match!!!!!!!!
Shingo is IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and I will never get over it!!!!!!!!!

by: May Cobb Published: May 18, 2021 Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Fiction 356 Pages, AudioBook from Audible
★★★
GoodReads Synopsis:
Sophie O’Neill left behind an envy-inspiring career and the stressful, competitive life of big-city Chicago to settle down with her husband and young son in a small Texas town. It seems like the perfect life with a beautiful home in an idyllic rural community. But Sophie soon realizes that life is now too quiet, and she’s feeling bored and restless.
Then she meets Margot Banks, an alluring socialite who is part of an elite clique secretly known as the Hunting Wives. Sophie finds herself completely drawn to Margot and swept into her mysterious world of late-night target practice and dangerous partying. As Sophie’s curiosity gives way to full-blown obsession, she slips farther away from the safety of her family and deeper into this nest of vipers.
When the body of a teenage girl is discovered in the woods where the Hunting Wives meet, Sophie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation and her life spiraling out of control.
My Review:
Really should be 2.5 stars out of 5 but, okay.

Zayn Malik is gearing up to release his long-awaited fourth studio album, and he’s co-produced the upcoming LP with Grammy-winner Dave Cobb, Rolling Stone can exclusively confirm.
In working with Cobb — one of Nashville’s most accomplished and in-demand producers — Malik will explore new sonic territory and lean into pairing his unmistakable vocals with live instrumentation. The soulful singer-songwriter had spent several years writing the album at his home in rural Pennsylvania before enlisting Cobb’s help as a co-producer. There’s no release date or title yet, but the album will be Malik’s first on new label, Mercury Records.
“What got me about Zayn was his voice, you can hear love, loss, pain, triumph and humanity in it. I feel as if this record is removing the glass from his spirit directly to his fans,” Cobb says. “Zayn has really created his own universe on this record, he really has no fear and is speaking straight from his soul.”
In an interview on Call Her Daddy last year, Malik teased the upcoming album a bit, saying, “I’m doing a record I don’t think people are really gonna expect. It’s a different sound for me. And it’s got some more narrative going on, like real-life experiences and stuff. My daughter’s mentioned in there a couple of times.”
Malik’s last album, Nobody Is Listening, was released in 2021. Since then, he’s shared a couple of scattered singles, including “To Begin Again” with Ingrid Michaelson, a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Angel,” and last year’s “Love Like This.” Back in January, Malik collaborated with the up-and-coming Pakistani group Aur on a reimagining of their hit single, “Tu Hai Kahan.”
As for Cobb, his credits include hit albums and critically acclaimed projects with Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Lady Gaga, Jason Isbell, Lori McKenna, and Sturgill Simpson. More recently, he’s teamed up with some classic rockers like Slash and Sammy Hagar, as well as Barry Gibb, Greta Van Fleet, Gavin DeGraw, and William Prince.

Another lovely year in this wonderful fandom. Here’s a little recap of how my year went:
My Writing:
Depth of Reason - Mature - 70k
How to Avoid a Scandal - Teen - 43k
Episode 3: The Diplomat, A Star Trek Redemption story - Teen - 13.5k
This list is much shorter than my list of fics written in 2022, but my fics last year were much shorter. Also, this word count is deceptive, because I wrote about 22k of Depth of Reason last year and about 20k of How to Avoid a Scandal last year as well. But! My writing goals this year were to finish these two WIPs and not take on any other projects until they were finished and I very nearly did that! Took on two projects (and more below), but I still finished these before the year finished, so pretty good!
Total words:
About 83k. Last year was more like 120k.
Other works:
Podfic of Petrichor - Teen - 34 minutes
Themes:
Finishing long works apparently! One was for my 2022 COBB and the other for my 2022 CORB. Even though these were started last year, they are the longest things I wrote since my first fic (49k) back in the second half of 2021.
Also, trying new things! Writing sci-if and recording a podfic felt very outside my wheelhouse at the time, but ultimately, I’m glad I went for it.
Top 10 fics I read in 2023:
Someone Wicked - Explicit - 60k by @artsyunderstudy
Three Months or 3,000 Miles - Gen - 3k by @larkral and art by @theimpossibledemon
Blood, Salt and Hummingbirds - Teen - 32k by @hushed-chorus
Restoration Ecology - The REmix (Baz’s version) - Explicit - 62k by @royalasstronaut
Good at Something - Explicit - 19k by @larkral
A Gift From the Propheseals - Mature - 6.5k by @skeedelvee with art by @letraspal
What Remains After the Storm - Mature - 86k by @hushed-chorus art by @erzbethluna
To Do, to Know, to Want - Mature - 8.5k by @facewithoutheart
Mishaps on Zoom - Explicit - 10k by @eelwinks
Swords Into Plowshares - Teen - 6.5k by @ileadacharmedlife
WIPs I’m excited to keep reading in 2024:
I Knew A Boy, I Knew A Man - Teen, by @shrekgogurt
Hiding Out In The Open - Mature, by @cutestkilla
A Little Bit Deadly- Explicit, by @emeryhall
Basil Pitch’s Diary - Teen, by @bookish-bogwitch
Other notable fandom things:
I helped to run @carryon-reverse-bang again with @angelsfalling16 as well as helped to put on a new event this year, @caught-on-tape-fest with @cutestkilla and @sillyunicorn
I met up with fandom friends while on a trip this past summer. Making personalized friendship bracelets as gifts, doing fic readings and crafts, and putting on our own Lady Ruth style tea party were some of my fave moments <3
I did a book club style reread of some of my fave fics with friends. I hope we do a few more in 2024!
It’s safe to say I engaged with this fandom everyday of 2023. I might get quiet on the main Discord server or Tumblr, but I’m certain I read, reblogged, wrote, DMd or otherwise participated in some way, shape or form throughout the entirety of the year.
Goals for 2024:
Read more fic! This fandom has such a wealth of works, my TBR list is a mile long and isn’t organized. I’d like to formally rework my AO3 bookmarks to exclusively show recs and either utilize the Marked for Later function or make a spreadsheet or something to better organize a proper TBR list so i don’t lose track of what I want to read next. Currently, having a dozen tabs open on my phone and another dozen on my iPad doesn’t really work well. If anyone has a brilliant system you’d suggest, please enlighten me!
I also want to read all of my physical canon books this year. I’ve only ever listened to the audiobooks! I’m currently reading my anniversary edition of Fangirl. (I think this is the prettiest book I’ve ever owned.) Up next, the Fangirl Manga, followed by the trilogy and Snow for Christmas.
More fandom meet ups! Already planning for June…
I don’t have any writing plans currently, so we shall see if/what I decide to create. I have a few ideas rolling around in my head, but nothing I’ve felt urged to put down in words. I’m sure I’ll write something, I just don’t know what it’ll be yet.

long story short
Author: @iknowfuck-allaboutvampires
Artist: @cutestkilla
Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence
Tags: SnowBaz, Songfic, Angst, Angst with a Happy Ending, Based on a Taylor Swift Song, The Mage (Simon Snow) is an Asshole, Tyrannus Basilton "Baz" Pitch Needs a Hug, Simon Snow Needs a Hug, Alcohol Abuse/Alcoholism, Minor Character Death, Coming of Age, Healing, Alternate Universe - No Visitings
Summary: Simon Snow had a very normal final year at Watford. Now he's working for the Mage, killing everything his sword is pointed at. There's no time to think about what he actually wants. Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch is just doing what his family wants. It's exhausting. So he's spending every weekend attached by the lips to a different boy in a different club. That is, when he's not attached by the lips to a bottle. Long story short, it was a bad time.

Thank you to @hushed-chorus, @prettygoododds, @confused-bi-queer, @ivelovedhimthroughworse, @j-nipper-95, @you-remind-me-of-the-babe, @fatalfangirl, @artsyunderstudy, @palimpsessed, @rimeswithpurple, , @nightimedreamersghost, @dragoneggos, @annabellelux and @ileadacharmedlife for the tags over the last week and a half. I'm working my way slowly and steadily through your posts (and having a lot of fun with it!), but I wanted to post tonight, so I'm switching gears here.
Yay! Summer vacation has begun! To celebrate, here's my first WIP Wednesday in a while.
Segments below the cut
From my COBB (it's so soon, y'all!)
Shepard
We’ve reached the foot of an actual mediaeval looking tower. I stare up at it in awe for several seconds before realising that Simon hasn’t waited for me. I scurry to catch up. He’s mounting the first of what looks to be an endless spiralling staircase. I look around, but there’s no sign of an elevator. No ADA compliance in magedom, I guess.
Even as I’m thinking that, on one landing, a boy in a wheelchair emerges from one of the many doors. I know it’s rude, but I can’t help but stare when he mutters a few words, waves his wand, and the stairs immediately smooth out to a gentle ramp.
I guess they don’t need ADA compliance in the World of Mages.
From my (still unnamed) Age of Sail AU
Simon and the cook spend their days cataloguing what’s left to us and writing out plans and routes on the deck boards with graphite sticks. They seem to think that if we’re lucky, the winds will push us into a shipping lane and another ship will just appear to rescue us.
I think they’re living in a fantasy world. I think we’re stuck here until the ship’s wounds prove too much for it and it falls apart. Or until the next storm tears us apart. Or until we run out of food or water and starve to death.
Ha! Running out of water when we’re surrounded by leagues of the stuff. It’s what my tutor would call ‘the height of irony.’
Fuck, I never thought I’d miss that pinched old man. But I think if Professor Gerint showed up right now, I might hug him. If he showed up with a boat, at least.
I try not to spend too much time thinking about how my parents just…left. How they didn’t wait for me to come back from under the deck. How my father didn’t leap up out of the lifeboat, desperate to find me.
How, in the end, my stepmother and the babe she carries were far more important than me.
From Snow Fox, my COTTA
It’s almost anticlimactic how easy it is to free the American officers on their march to Georgia.
My men and I waited until the British column was passing through a dense part of the wood. Then the men I’d placed at strategic points on either side of (and behind) the line of British troops, fired their guns in the air on my signal (a high whistled ‘fee-bee’, the call of the chickadee). After the column froze, the Brits groping for their guns and looking frantically in ever direction, I rode out to face the commander at the front of the train.
“Drop your weapons,” I said, mildly. “You’re surrounded.” At those words, my tiny band of men had switched positions by several feet each, and fired again from a new location. The British soldiers were practically cowering now, because each time I spoke, the guns fired again, from a new spot. It sounded like a thousand American soldiers were holding their tiny force in a giant fist, and all I’d need to do is to give a signal, and that fist would crush them.
An impression we'd carefully planned out ahead of time, given that I’ve less than fifty men, and the British force has more than two hundred.
The British leader looked at my gun pointed at his head, and listened to the gunfire and screams behind him, and surrendered without a shot fired.
From: To Heal a Broken Mind
Simon looks up and smiles tiredly at me when I approach. “Any luck?” he asks.
I purse my lips. “Maybe…you’ve got a lesion in your left temporal. It may not mean anything, but it reminds me of something… I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I’m going to review my medical journal back copies tonight.
Simon nods slowly. He doesn’t look particularly encouraged, but it’s not like there’s anything concrete yet. In silence, but hand in hand (what’s the point of hiding now?), we depart the hospital
From Westward Son:
“You putting your oar in?” I tease.
He shrugs and smiles. “Not really. I’m no use when it comes to survival skills, you know that. But…there may be folk who are. That’s what I was going to suggest.”
I’m puzzled. “You were going to suggest that we look for advice outside the train?” I look around at the sheer emptiness around us. Most trains that we’d gotten used to seeing gave up and stayed back at Fort Boise, or even at earlier stops. I’ve not seen anyone but us for days.
“Not people you can see,” he says, with emphasis.
“People we can’t see, but could help us,” I scowl. “Do you get a thrill from being mysterious, Shepard Love?”
He laughs. “No. But there are people…well, not precisely people, but beings, at least, in this area.”
My breath catches. He means the fair folk. “Shepard, that’s too risky,” I say, my voice shrill enough to attract Simon’s eye from where he’s standing several feet away, brushing Agatha’s coat.
From Saving Simon Snow:
Simon pulls back so abruptly that I’m dizzy. “Baz,” he says urgently, “do you still hate me?”
It takes me several seconds to recover my wits enough to understand the question. I’m still fighting the urge to pull his gifted mouth and tongue back to my neck when I realise what he’s asked me.
My mouth opens and closes uselessly for a moment before I sigh.
“Simon,” I croak, and then pause to clear my throat. “Simon, I never hated you.”
He goes still. “Never?” He stares at me.
I shake my head. “Never. I pretended to hate you. It was what my family expected of me. What I expected of myself. But I never could quite manage it.”
He scowls a little. “You gave a damned good impression of it.”
And a tiny tease from Raising Dragons (it's done, y'all! Fristi and I are making some final decisions, but it should post in the next few days!)
“Don’t laugh at me, you arsehole,” I whine.
“But when will I ever laugh then?” he mocks me. He loves that line. And I love him, so I let him get away with it, every time.
Tagging, for Sunday (or not, no pressure!):

NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam 9/4/2021
Momo Watanabe and Saya Kamitani vs. Maika and Lady C -- Good tag match. I am impressed by Watanabe, Kamitani, and Maika. I'd love to see more of them. Winners: Watanabe and Kamitani
Hiromu Takahashi and Bushi vs. Robbie Eagles and Tiger Mask -- This was a fine, short match. Hiromu uses Eagles' Ron Miller Special finisher on Tiger Mask. Love it. Eagles taps out Bushi with that same move, while Tiger Mask holds Hiromu back. Winners: Robbie Eagles and Tiger Mask
Yoh vs. Sho -- I am actually pretty excited for this. Let's go. Yoh jumps Sho before the bell. This is aggressive and personal. They throw one another into the guard rails outside. Sho wraps Yoh's arm around the ringpost and then around the guard rail. Dragon Screw smoothly into Stargazer by Yoh. Sho escapes and goes right back to Yoh's arm, yanking it over his shoulder and nailing it with a kick. Big lariats by Sho. Sho goes for Shock Arrow, but Yoh reverses back into Stargazer. Dragon suplex into the corner by Yoh on Sho!! Sho pummels Yoh with elbows and stomps to the head! But Yoh responds with a series of big elbows of his own, taking Sho down. Big lariat and dragon suplex by Yoh for a near fall!! Yoh goes for Direct Drive, but Sho shoves him into the ref! Big spear from Sho!!! Sho grabs a chair while the ref is down and swings for Yoh, but Yoh ducks it and lands a superkick. Yoh now has the chair in his hands and threatens to strike Sho with it, but throws it aside and lands another superkick instead. Low blow by Sho!!! Sho grabs the chair again and hits Yoh over the head. Sho covers Yoh, but pulls him up by the arm before the ref can count three and puts him in a triangle choke. Yoh passes out and the ref calls for the bell. This match was really well executed, highlighting the differences in Sho and Yoh, and how Sho has the killer instinct that Yoh lacks. Winner: Sho
Evil, Togo, and Yujiro come out after the match and present Sho with a Bullet Club t-shirt, which Sho puts on. I am rolling my eyes so hard.
Toru Yano vs. Chase Owens No DQ I Quit Match -- Lmao at Chris Charlton saying that the crowd isn't clapping for Yano because they are "stunned into silence by what they are seeing." That's a funny way to say "bored as hell by what they are seeing." I did pop for Owens' package piledriver on Yano on the two tables, which did not break! And the finish rocked. Yano threatens to stab Owens in the eye with scissors, forcing Owens to quit!! Loooool I am going nuts. Winner: Toru Yano
Kazuchika Okada vs. Jeff Cobb -- Hyped for this!! Okada stands on Cobb's back on the outside and mocks Cobb's Aloha Maker pose. Cobb with a huge overhead belly-to-belly suplex on Okada, throwing him across the ring!! Cobb picks Okada up over his shoulder and rams his back into alternating corners of the ring repeatedly! Okada goes for an elbow to Cobb in the corner, but Cobb catches him out of mid-air and then powerbombs him with one arm!!! Great strength from Okada, lifting Cobb up for a neckbreaker over the knee! Three DDTs in a row from Okada!! Flying cross body from Okada to Cobb over the guard rail, but Cobb catches him and lifts him into vertical suplex position and drives him down on the floor!!!! Cobb throws Okada into the ropes, looking for Tour of the Islands, but Okada grabs the ropes to stop it and sends Cobb over the top to the outside. Okada goes for a plancha, Cobb catches him and goes for another vertical suplex, but Okada reverses into a DDT on the floor!! Three dropkicks, a tombstone, and the Money Clip from Okada! Big blow to Okada's back, followed by a reverse piledriver of sorts by Cobb! Okada reverses another Tour of the Islands attempt into a drop kick! Cobb hits a tombstone and uses the Rainmaker wrist clutch to attempt to wind Okada up into Tour of the Islands, but Okada reverses again!! Okada hits a tombstone! Okada escapes another Tour attempt! Cobb backs Okada into the corner. Okada is sitting on the top rope, when Cobb climbs the ropes and lands a headbutt!! Tour of the Islands finally from the top rope!! Tour of the Islands again in the ring!! 1, 2, 3!! Boooooo!!!!!!! This was a great match. These two work super well together. Loved the story of Cobb trying over and over again to hit Tour of the Islands, and Okada having an answer every time, until Cobb catches Okada off guard with the headbutt to give him an opening for an unexpected Tour from the top rope. Good stuff. Winner: Jeff Cobb
Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) vs. Kota Ibushi for the IWGP United States Championship -- So good to see Ibushi back. Ibushi is in tears as he enters the ring. Here we go! Good start on the mat. Early work on Ibushi's legs by Tanahashi. Quick strikes and kicks, standing moonsault, golden triangle moonsault by Ibushi!! And Ibushi points to Shingo on commentary! Hype!! Ibushi gets Tanahashi down on the mat, hammering forearms to the back of Tanahashi's head and shoving the ref away! Tanahashi goes for High Fly Flow, but Ibushi gets the knees up, grabs the wrists, and hits Kamigoye!! But he can't follow it with a pin. Boma Ye by Ibushi!! Kamigoye attempt, but Tanahashi stands up! Jumping knee by Ibushi instead! Another Kamigoye attempt, but Tanahashi keeps his arms crossed to block it. Slingblade by Tanahashi and Ibushi kicks out at one!! Two High Fly Flows land and Tanahashi gets the three count for the win. This was a really great match and super short for a NJPW main event (18 minutes), which is incredibly refreshing. Ibushi looked amazing. I understand Tanahashi retaining here, but I don't like Ibushi losing in his first match back, especially if he is going to be wrestling Shingo for the World Heavyweight Championship soon. Winner: Hiroshi Tanahashi

“Someone who engaged in that kind of bullying about a process that is fundamental to our system and to our self-government shouldn’t be anywhere near the Oval Office.” — Bill Barr, Trump's 2nd attorney general
“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people — does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us.” — James Mattis, Trump's 1st secretary of defense
“I think he’s unfit for office. … He puts himself before country. His actions are all about him and not about the country. And then, of course, I believe he has integrity and character issues as well.” — Mark Esper, Trump's 2nd secretary of defense
“We don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator. We take an oath to the Constitution and we take an oath to the idea that is America – and we’re willing to die to protect it.” — retired Gen. Mark Milley, Trump's chairman of the joint chiefs
“(Trump’s) understanding of global events, his understanding of global history, his understanding of US history was really limited. It’s really hard to have a conversation with someone who doesn’t even understand the concept for why we’re talking about this.” — Rex Tillerson, Trump's secretary of state
“He used to be good on foreign policy and now he has started to walk it back and get weak in the knees when it comes to Ukraine. A terrible thing happened on January 6, and he called it a beautiful day.” — Nikki Haley, Trump's 1st ambassador to the United Nations
“Someone who I would argue now is just out for himself.” — Chris Christie, Trump's presidential transition vice-chairman
“We saw the absence of leadership, really anti-leadership, and what that can do to our country.” — HR McMaster, Trump's 2nd national security adviser
“I believe (foreign leaders) think he is a laughing fool.” — John Bolton, Trump's 3rd national security adviser
“A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law. There is nothing more that can be said. God help us.” — John Kelly, Trump's 2nd chief of staff
“I quit because I think he failed at being the president when we needed him to be that.” — Mick Mulvaney, Trump's acting chief of staff and US special envoy to Ireland, resigned after January 6th, 2021
“He is the domestic terrorist of the 21st century.” — Anthony Scaramucci, one of Trump's former communications directors
“I am terrified of him running in 2024.” — Stephanie Grisham, another former communications director
“When I saw what was happening on January 6 and didn’t see the president step in and do what he could have done to turn it back or slow it down or really address the situation, it was just obvious to me that I couldn’t continue.” — Betsy DeVos, Trump's secretary of education, resigned after January 6th, 2021
“At a particular point the events were such that it was impossible for me to continue, given my personal values and my philosophy." — Elaine Chao, Trump's secretary of Transportation, resigned after January 6th, 2021

“The President undermined American democracy baselessly for months. As a result, he’s culpable for this siege, and an utter disgrace.” — Tom Bossert, Trump's 1st homeland security adviser
“Donald’s an idiot.” — Michael Cohen, Trump's former personal lawyer and fixer
“Trump relentlessly puts forth claims that are not true.” — Ty Cobb, Trump's White House lawyer
“We can stand by the policies, but at this point we cannot stand by the man.” — Alyssa Farah Griffin, one of Trump's directors of strategic communications, now a CNN political commentator
“Donald Trump, who would attack civil rights icons and professional athletes, who would go after grieving black widows, who would say there were good people on both sides, who endorsed an accused child molester; Donald Trump, and his decisions and his behavior, was harming the country. I could no longer be a part of this madness.” — Omarosa Manigault Newman, a top aide in charge of Trump's outreach to African Americans
“I thought that he did do a lot of good during his four years. I think that his actions on January 6 and the lead-up to it, the way that he’s acted in the aftermath, and his continuation of pushing this lie that the election is stolen has made him wholly unfit to hold office every again.” — Sarah Matthews, one of Trump's deputy press secretaries, resigned after January 6th, 2021
“I think that Donald Trump is the most grave threat we will face to our democracy in our lifetime, and potentially in American history.” — Cassidy Hutchinson, Trump's final chief of staff’s aide
