CPU recognizes Service Awardees
Dr. Teodoro C. Robles thanked the awardees for their loyalty to Central Philippine University.
A virtual program to honor the Service Awardees of Central Philippine University was premiered on Facebook and Youtube last January 6, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
It was started by a praise and worship songs led by Rev. Roger Quimpo and followed by a devotional by Rev. Cris Amorsolo Sian, Senior Pastor of the University Church. Rev. Sian challenged the awardees, and everyone in the university to work for the glory of the Lord thru CPU.
CPU President Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, in his message, thanked the awardees for their loyalty to CPU, and for giving the best years of their lives in serving the constituents of CPU.

CPU Golden Lions Taekwondo coach gets a nod from PTA.
At 18 years old, Navales got her blackbelt and began competing in Krorugi (sparring) in her entire college years.
The Philippine Taekwondo Association appointed CPU Golden Lions Taekwondo coach Florame Navales as Chairperson – R6B Regional Pomsae Council of the Philippine Taekwondo association for a term of 2 years.
According to Navales, her taekwondo career started during the 2005 and 2007 Palarong Pambansa representing Region 10. At 18 years of age, she got her blackbelt and began competing in Krorugi (sparring) in her entire college years. She shifted into Poomsae when she started coaching.
Navales, a graduate of Bachelor in Arts Major in Political science and Public Administration from Central Philippine University last 2014, represented the Golden Lions in ILOPRISAA, National PRISAA, and UNIGAMES. The following year, she joined Coach Alan Diasnes as a coach of the CPU Golden Lions.
Navales loves the art of Poomsae, and joined in Poomsae seminars under the National Poomsae Coaches of Philippine Taekwondo and also the Regional Poomsae. From 2016 to 2018 she was a member of the Philippine National Poomsae Team-Training Pool. As a member of the Philippine National Team, she represented the country in World Taekwondo Hanmadang in Korea in 2016 and won the silver medal in creative freestyle team Poomsae. It was her first-ever international medal. She later trained players that became Philippine National Team members and represented the country namely, Alfie Diasnes, Cindy Joy Diasnes, and Sophia Marie Tungala.
While coaching, she continues to compete in the Senior Division. She competed twice in the United States in 2017 and 2018, in Korea in July 2019.
Navales is an awardee of the Most Outstanding Woman TOWIL by the Iloilo City Government in 2018. She was also awarded as Best Coach in Thailand last October 2019.
“It’s both an honor and a responsibility to continue my service to our association, to CPU, my Alma Mater, and to the youth of today. My desire is to let them experience the gift and advantages of being in sports. At this stage of my life, I am happy that I am able to do the thing that I love,” said Navales.

CPU Golden Lions Sepak Takraw Team wins in “Kahidlaw sa Takraw” tourney
The CPU Golden Lions won the championship in the Sepak Takraw Best Regu Open Tournament dubbed as “Kahidlaw sa Takraw.” The tournament was held at Block 22 Housing Mandurriao, Iloilo City with 22 participating teams from Iloilo and Negros Occidental.
The CPU Golden Lions Team was able to defeat Team Dueñas with a score of 2-1 in the set. The 3rd place went to Barotac Nuevo and Dingle Brotherhood while the 4th place is the team from Victorias.
The Most Valuable Player of the tournament was John Hiros Jalandoni of CPU, while Steven Togle of CPU) got the Best Tekong award. RV Gangoso of Team Dueñas got the Best Spiker award while Paul Germae Oñate of CPU was the Best Setter of the tournament.
According to Pastor Keith Dune Gallos, the organizer of the event, there were 22 teams distributed into 4 brackets for a round robin match. In the 3 days of tournament, 50 games were played in the qualifying matches, 4 games in the quarterfinals, 2 games in the Semis, 1 game for 3rd place, and 1 game for the championship. They have done it with only 6 referees plus 2 part time referees, 2 line judges plus 2 part time line judges, 2 first aiders from Red Cross, 1 part time physiotherapist, 1 tournament manager, and most of all 1 God.
Pastor Gallos declared that there is “Nothing is impossible with God.” He brings back all the glory and honor to God for the successful tournament.

CPU Republic together with the CPU Golden Lions Esports Organization organized the CPUR E-Tramurals 2022 powered by AcadArena in light of CPUR Virtual Week. The Qualifiers – Semi-Finals were conducted on April 9 and April 10, while the Championships & Battle for Third will be held live on CPU Golden Lions Esports Facebook Page on April 19 and April 20.
Battles for the games include League of Legends Wild Rift, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Pokémon Unite. Several colleges registered a group of student players with their chosen group name to partake in the Esports, such as the “Lawmalaban” of College of Law and “The Magnates” of the College of Business and Accountancy. There are a total of 13 teams for the League of Legends: Wild Rift, 14 teams for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, 12 teams for Call of Duty: Mobile, and 10 teams for Pokémon Unite.
Day 1 and Day 2 results for each game were divided into game brackets to determine the following teams of opposition for the live games scheduled on April 19 and April 20. Teams will compete for different prizes such as 790wc and 380wc respectively for 1st and 2nd placers on the League of Legends: Wild Rift, 448 Diamonds and 223 Diamonds for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, 350 Garena Shells and 200 Garena Shells for Call of Duty: Mobile, and 350 GCash and 200 GCash for Pokémon Unite.
Esports in CPU was founded by the CPU Golden Lions Esports Organization in the midst of the pandemic when online gaming gained more traction. It was first comprised of a few gaming enthusiasts; however, the organization was able to grow from 20 members to 150 members in the span of nearly three years. CPU Golden Lions Esports hopes to spread their passion for gaming and give back opportunities through community outreaches.
