okay because I'm thinking about it, but veth's voice cracking when she tells caleb that when this is all over they'll have to say goodbye is sending me into crisis. like, veth brenatto, eternally at a crossroads, pulled in two directions and wishing she could split herself in two to be who everyone needs and wherever they need her at once. looking at this man, whom she had said she loves many, many times, who is the only one other than her husband to make her feel like that, wanting so so deeply to be with him (and the nein, but he's always the first of the nein, to her) and she knows, at the end of the day, that the choice is going to be her son, it is always going to be her son. but her voice still cracks, because she still wants, and maybe in another world it would be different. and he holds her and says "I love you" and she says "I will always love you" because it's true. even when she's gone, the love's not going anywhere, which is a curse and much as it's a gift, and he says "thank you, I'm sorry, thank you"

Thirteen things I noted about CR2E121 “Ice and Fire” and the Talks Machina about it :

First show of 2021 and Sam is doing great, thank you for asking !

Sam is continuing making his rounds through the cast, and has chosen violence against Liam this time, by putting a photo of him young a t-shirt. Matt, about the look of young Liam : "That man will never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down !"

The Mighty Nein, looking to destabilize Lucien off his high-pedestal : "We've seen you with food on your penis." Lucien : "That wasn't me. That was an aberration." Beau : "Same dick !"

Lucien is describing how it all started with him reading an evil book, and so the dreams started coming, and one by one, the minds of the Somnovem (who have names !) started visiting him and egging him on this journey. Beau and Caleb, completely missing the point : BOOK !!! HE SAID BOOK !! I WANT TO READ THAT BOOK

Glad to see that Sam is still being a dick in 2021, because he chose to have Veth cockblocking Yasha once more. But, in true Sam Riegel way, the poem Veth gave Yasha was incredibly sweet and genuine...

I ADORED the cross-conversations of Yasha and Jester and Beau and Fjord checking in on each other and each other's love life, and all of them going "Whaaaaaat ?!" when they revealed there was a kiss or an asking-out !

I need to watch season 2 of Narrative Telephone ! I immensely loved season 1, and add Mica Burton to that ? I'm a gonner.

The gallery music got a new re-arrangement, and it. IS. EPIC !!!

Sam, who refuses to use Halfling Luck, whispered to Matt than the halfling person in the Tomb Takers party could re-roll an ability check, and Matt thanked him for making him remember. Sam chose violence in 2021.

Lucien, the fucker, Dispelled the mansion once more. Caduceus, an asexual, dejectedly : "I was going to have a hot meal..." Yasha, a lesbian, who thought about her date with Beau : "I was going to have a- " (she stops herself) Sam : "Hot meal ?" Ashley, laughing : "Yeah !!"

Dream, the Tyrant, Death. How fucking fitting. And yet it was through roll of the dice. How fucking crazy is this game, I love it.

Hahaha Marisha saying her piece about Sam being a dick with Veth and the date (but still reassuring viewers that she finds it funny and that this kind of thing can only be done at tables where people really know each other, and if there really was a problem with it, Sam would shut that down immediately) was awesome.

Yknow what it does not surprise me that Caleb is one of the first to get outwardly snippy with Lucien. I am not surprised at all, because I feel much the same way with a lot of people in my life.

I am loving this arc so far and ngl I love Lucien. He’s a bastard person, and he’s great in that bastardy. Also I love that Liam asked for clarification about Lucien’s pronouns. That was real nice of him.

Cr ep121 spoilers

Okay Widojest shippers, let’s talk about what happened in this episode.

When Yasha and Jester were talking there was so much to unpack! Laura played this beautifully and I am begging you all to go back and watch her facial expressions when Yasha talks about passion! Jester expected more when she and Fjord kissed, not “comfortable”. She wanted that heat, that passion she read about, and Yasha reiterates that the more you love someone the more passion there is. Seriously rewatch this part like 10 times.

There were two moments that show just how different the dynamics between Fjord and Caleb’s relationship with Jester are. And these moments have been happening one after the other for the entirety of campaign two. I.e. “will you be alright?” Versus “she could punch you through a wall”

On the lava river Fjord casts his fog cloud and pulls Jester in close, protecting her from the fire elementals.

When Caleb heads over to Lucien and the Tomb Takers Jester immediately goes with. Jester seats herself in front Lucien and starts a tarot card reading. Beau makes a move to step in, to say something, but Caleb stops her. Trusting Jester to handle herself.

I don’t think these moments have gone unnoticed by Jester. She sees Fjord as the typical male hero in a romance novel; sword in hand, strong, and ruggedly handsome. He’s the guy that catches her eye, the one who saves the damsel in distress.

As for Caleb; he’s the guy who goes unnoticed, the guy that’s been there forever, been kind, sweet and always believed that Jester is her own hero. He recognizes Jester’s strength and trusts her to make her own decisions.

Think every love triangle ever where there’s a new handsome guy in town and the female protagonist immediately falls for him, but her guy best friend, who she’s known forever, has been in love with her all along. We’ve all seen these tropes and typically the friend who’s been there ends up with the main character in the end.

Jester is not a damsel in distress, in fact, she causes a fair amount of distress when she feels like it. She doesn’t need a hero in her life, she’s got the role handled. If she has any partner it should be one who respects her strength and all the things that make this “little blue tiefling” the badass that she is.

thinking of in ep121 when jester said “i imagine that if the city gave anybody dreams it might mean they were.. chosen...." and cree replied "we do not have such dreams.. the nonagon is the one who has been chosen.. we follow in his steps, his guidance..” when they were talking about lucien granting his dreams of the city to the tombtakers. also thinking of how of all of the mighty nein, caduceus is the only one who has recurring dreams of the city.. like, pretty much every night since they all first saw that vision after they killed vokodo...... im thinking of it and i am. Watching this episode is like following the Cold War.

There’s so much tension, subtle subterfuge and mind games being played by two groups who can kill each other but would rather come to a conclusion without it since they themselves have such a good chance of dying.

Starting from the top is getting cocky af, Jesus Christ lol. At first I thought we was a wise humble dude but when he thinks he knows something he’s smugger than any critical role character, even percy. I love that though sometimes it feels like Caducues is too perfect so whenever his flaws come out it humanizes him.

That entire chase with the elementals was amazing tension and Caleb and Veth’s talk was great too, though I wonder where Veth was because it either seemed like she thinks they are done or she is done. The great relationship talks between Beau and Fjord and Yasha and Jester. Seeing more and more of Lucien and the crew’s personalities. This was stuffed, like a 4.5 hour episode into 3 hours. No dead time at all and just great stuff all around.

Also I was stunned when they almost threw the orb in lava, shunted it out to nicodranas, and a bunch of other crazy things that all smoothed out enough to avoid violence.

And to end it all on the amazing tarot card pull. That’s some writer shit, but totally random. Shades of C1. The Twitch and maybe possible accent change indicating a piece of Molly fighting back? What does death mean to him again?

Honestly I kind of lost a bit of interest over the break but this episode snatched it all back up and then some.

10/10 Episode again. Things are ramping up to a confrontation I feel and I wonder how that would turn out.

Can’t wait for next ep of fantasy Cuban Missile Crisis.
