777 Challenge

The rules are as follows: Go to page 7 of your WIP, go to the seventh line, share seven sentences, and tag 7 more writer-bloggers to continue the Challenge 7-7-7.

Of course, it helped that Jupiter had come from here, and that she loved it so much.  There was very little he could ever dislike about something Jupiter loved.  It wasn't lost on him that literally any planet would've had the same affect on him, after his years in the Deadlands.  But even so, the sights and sounds of Earth – and the smells especially – were becoming fast favorites of Caine's.  

He pulled the truck over and stopped along the side of the road. Exiting the truck, he paused a moment to allow the worst of the sulfuric smell of the engine to drift away before he took a long breath in, mentally cataloging each scent in order to familiarize himself more with the path between Jupiter's family home and Stinger's farmhouse.

And also, if he were honest, to delay arriving at Stinger's farmhouse.

How did the story of Adam and Eve go in your AU? (maybe some other biblical stories as well?)

Gather round ye bible fanatics (wow) for I will tell you the tale of Adame and Eve….. lil-lucifer-au-version ok so:

It’s been a while since the war, Heaven has more or less recovered and Lucifer, who is now the Devil, has managed for the first time to break out of his prison and crawl back onto the surface world. Mortals (mostly humans) are almost finalised, but now God has to make some ‘test runs’. So he creates a testing debug-mode ground, called the Garden of Eden, plopped everything that he wants Earth to have (including the animals in it) and finally added in the humans: Adam and Eve. They were like lab-rats in a maze and at the very centre of the maze, was the Tree with the Fruit and everything. They were told not to eat it. 

Now, there were a whole bunch of Adams and Eves, the first 100 of them kind of looked like those prehistoric humans, and they were also immortal (ageing was still a work-in-progress). But yeah anyways, every Adam and Eve that were released into the wild would hang around, do stuff and then die and each time the test was deemed a ‘failure’ and the next Adam and Eve were sent in.

The angels had no idea why they were deemed ‘failures’ but didn’t question anything and just carried on with the tests.

Adam and Eve #616 actually had kids (Cain and Abel) and Eve #666 turned into the Lilith that we know. One of the first Adams actually somehow made it out of the Garden of Eden and a full-scale search was made for him but they never found him.

The tests went on for a long while, with failure after failure and the angels were tired as shit and the Devil kinda spied on everything and laughed to himself but even he got bored and decided to meddle with the tests a little.

So, they were up to Adam and Eve #777, and Lilith helped the Devil sneak into the garden as a snake. He went in there and became familiar with the Adam and Eve and wowed them with a few magic tricks and when they asked how could he do all that he was all “huhuhuhu come follow me and i’ll show ya” so he guided them through the Garden of Eden to the Tree (which took days by the way, the Garden of Eden was HUGE). 

Once they finally made it, they saw the fruit, each took a bite and they instantly became insane with knowledge and everything and the Devil was all “Pftttt this is gonna piss off Dad SO much, wonder what they’re gonna do-” and then the Adam and Eve went crazy and murdered each other over the fruit. 

The Devil was like “well ok then umm” and the angels noticed and they straight away went “WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED DOWN THERE SEND SOMEONE DOWN” so they came down and of course they thought that the Devil killed them so of course Mike came down, fought him and he got locked away again. 

So the angels were all like “He just had to ruin everything” but then they suddenly got a message from above basically saying the test was a success! The Garden of Eden is to be disposed of and the final thing can be started on and everybody were confused as hell but went with it.

Genesis 5

This next bit is called “From Adam to Noah,” so we’re rapidly approaching one of God’s bigger and more famous dick moves.

We sort of get a recap. God made humanity in his own image, and made them male and female (closed-minded of him) and blessed them (arguable). 

So, we can confirm in fact that Adam and Eve are old as fuck earlier, because they apparently had Seth when Adam was 130 years old. The text says he “had a son in his own likeness, in his own image, and he named him Seth.” 

Then Adam lives EIGHT FUCKING HUNDRED MORE YEARS, and has more children during that time (I guess accounting for at least a few of the other humans around), except they don’t get names here because I guess Seth is more important. Adam dies at the ripe old age of 930. 

Seth didn’t have his first son Enosh until he was 105, and then lived 807 more years and had more sons and daughters after. Seth died at 912.

Enosh follows the same pattern: has his first son Kenan at 90, has more kids over time, then lives to be 905. Slowly but surely, the descendants of Adam are dying earlier and earlier, it seems.

Kenan has his son Mahalalel at age 70 and, oh look! Kenan actually lived longer than his dad, dying at 910 years old.

Mahalel has his son Jared at 65, dies at 895 years.

And then Jared has his son Enoch at age 162, and...hang on, ENOCH? That was Cain’s son! You can’t just do that, that’s deeply confusing! Unless it’s the same Enoch, but then that’s deeply incestuous! But if it’s not the same then there’s an Enoch descended from Cain AND an Enoch descended from Seth! They really should have coordinated on the names! 

Also you can see Jared breaks the pattern, he waited til he was super old to have Enoch, and then he dies at 962, even older than Adam. The fact that Jared is such an outlier has made me question the purpose of this section, I thought it was here to demonstrate that humanity is slowly declining as they drift further and further from immortality, but apparently Jared got an extra boost of immortal juice as a kid?

Enoch shakes things up even more. He has his son Methuselah at age 65, and then “walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters.” The other entries so far haven’t mentioned them walking faithfully with God, so I guess Enoch is the first guy to sort of return to form and worship God. Like a chump because God has done nothing but be shitty to his family. He dies relatively young at 365, and “then he was no more, because God took him away.” 

That’s...ominous? Or, wait, is this suggesting that actually the longer people live, the worse it is for them? Because the longer they spend on Earth, the less time they get to spend with God -- and maybe even no time at all, because Enoch is the only one so far who is described as being taken away. Is Enoch the first guy to get into Heaven? (I don’t know how accurate my conceptions of Heaven are to the actual text, so this is kind of a baseless assumption. So far there has been nothing suggesting an afterlife.)

Methuselah has a son named...oh come the fuck on! He has a son named LAMECH. Listen, I get mythologies are big, there’s gonna be characters with the same names, but these are TWO CHAPTERS APART! Anyway, Methuselah lives to the age of 969.

NICE

Anyway, Lamech, who I am assuming is not the same Lamech descended from Cain, finally, FINALLY has a fucking son named NOAH. The translation notes that Noah is similar to the Hebrew word for “comfort,” and Lamech says “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.” Which is a nice sentiment. I like that Noah’s name is kind of a fuck-you to God.

Lamech has other kids over the next few hundred years and dies at the radically lucky age of 777. 

And then Noah doesn’t have kids until he’s already 500 slutty, slutty years old, at which point he becomes the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 

And that’s...the end of the chapter. It’s just an entire chapter leading us from Adam to Noah. Wild.
