I shunned Netflix too for cancelling Inside Job so at least I’m consistent about it.

Paramount+ is also on VERY thin ice here because I LOVE Star Trek: Lower Decks and I’m glad it’s still going.

BUT! Their ongoing erasure of and blatant disregard for Star Trek: Prodigy is DEEPLY troubling stuff.

Hence why I said they’re on VERY thin ice!

Why are YouTube apologies always so bad?

Because if somebody had poor enough character to get themselves into a cancellable situation when they WEREN'T under the emotional stress of a public shaming, they certainly don't have the character to handle it gracefully when they ARE under that stress.

I remember reading a blogger who specialises in talking about infidelity explaining that if somebody has poor enough character to cheat, then they certainly don't have the character to deal with the mess they created in an emotionally intelligent way, and expecting them to do anything other than keep making it worse is like expecting a goldfish to knit you a sweater.

It's hard to realise this, because in these situations, we had judged the person as being a decent human being in general, so seeing them acting in such a dishonest, destructive and self-interested way just makes no sense. But the truth is, acting generously and gracefully in a messy situation would be difficult even for a decent human being, and the person has already demonstrated, before the apology attempt, that they aren't that.

We need to be more comfortable deciding who people are by their actions over time, rather than dismissing patterns of behaviour because of who we already think they are (or want them to be).
