I got up well before dawn for this. Carried 11kg of bodies, lenses, tripods, etc. up some very dew-wet trails on Te Ahumairangi. To a spot I'd scouted a couple of days previously. All so as to be set up for that fleeting chance the light would cooperate.
It did not. Dawn broke on maybe the second cloudless day in all my years in Wellington (only mild hyperbole). And then, what morning golden hour (about 11 minutes, really) we got? Revealed that the bucolic little village of Wades Town, which I expected to be lit up like a romantic painting of Tuscany? Yeah. Actually completely on the wrong side of the hill for that. And therefore completely in shadow.
I watched for a while, and then actually burst out laughing. Some Aussie Magpies and an early jogger on the trail were prolly a little alarmed. But, regardless of the mislaid photo-op? I had a great time, and it was entirely beautiful. And this pic always makes me smile remembering all of that. I can't think of a better outcome for a photograph.

Nine Years Ago—Confluence of Celebrity Locomotives!
At the end of May 2014, fellow photographer Pat Yough and I took Amtrak to Salisbury, North Carolina to partake in the epic gathering of celebrity locomotives described as ‘Streamliners at Spencer.’
This was an extremely well organized and enjoyable event.
Many of our fellow photographers were on site.
Over the coming days, I exposed numerous photos of beautiful locomotives.
Our first full…

She gets her own special post and picture
I was sitting on the edge of a canal today, when I saw her walk up and start to flap her wing and pick at it ... after a few minutes, it was clear that her right wing (as you can see) was broken / damaged.
She flapped it, but it would not twist back under as we normally would see... and so she picked at it a bunch of times, tried to move it, shift it, etc.
I watched her for ten minutes ... there were tons of people sitting on the grass, relaxing and such ...
I wondered if I should / could do anything for her ... I took a short video and also a couple of photos of her...
As I was looking to see if Amsterdam had any kind of animal services, some ignorant person walked through the area, without even paying attention to where they were going and scared her off into the water ... and she swam away fast and furious ...
I hope things work out well for her...😢
