A little moment I didn't catch the first time I watched this film but loved when I noticed it later: Mr. Holly admiring the model bridge and being embarrassed when Mr. Cushing catches him.

a non-exhaustive list of things i forgot were in crimson peak:
bobby singer is here???
the lad from sons of anarchy is here
the lad from sons of anarchy is also an ophthalmologist and god did that make me feel like a sleeper agent being woken up (iih nation rise up)
owen from torchwood is also also here??? i swear hes in every movie i dont expect him to be in
just how many homoerotic vibes tom hiddleston shares with both bobby singer and the lad from sons of anarchy
how intense the homoerotic vibes between lucille and edith are; i didnt forget them but wow its gayer than i remember
its like so much gorier than i remembered and also the gore is 10/10 very good
how goddamn amazing fernando velázquez's score is, it really ties the whole movie together
i swear i always forget just how good doug jones and javier botet are despite having watched them in so many movies but god these dudes are so good at their jobs
i remember thinking thomas sharpe was the most charming man and im not gonna judge 15-year-old me, i was in my loki era still
there was a dog????? such a good boy????? dog??????
all the symbolism in the costuming (thank you kaz rowe for highlighting that)
the sharpes having like proto-wetherspoons crockery
how slutty tom hiddleston looks with his waistcoat open
their house looks like a sims house (affectionate)
sometimes a family can be the victorian-edwardian version of the folgers christmas advert, a naïve american girl who can see ghosts, a random dog she found, her doctor friend, and the ghosts of her husbands 3 past wives, the murdered mother of the folgers and their dead baby. dont judge them.

the first episode of Cabinet of Curiosities is apparently set in Buffalo, NY (based on the newspaper clippings about Dottie Wolmar's disappearance) and features a gold-toned Victorian candelabra. And I'm pretty sure Agatha the antiques dealer is wearing the cameo Lucille Sharpe wore, that was Del Toro's grandmother's

I finally got all the pieces of Virginia's "Meet Outfit" and did a little photoshoot! (The indoor photos were taken at the historic Hotel Ruby Marie here in Madison WI, where they very kindly allow cosplayers and other photographers to use their beautiful vintage decor as a backdrop!)
Oh, and because I'm super proud of her jewelry, some closeups and info on each:
Tumblr media
This is the pendant on her necklace; it was inspired by Victorian-era mourning jewelry, which often contained hair or other parts of the deceased loved one. If you look closely, you may notice her father's photo is actually Jim Beaver as Carter Cushing in Crimson Peak (Edith Cushing was one of my main inspirations for Virginia). I edited the photo for that "vintage" feel. The hair, which is meant to be from her father's beard, was actually taken from Captain's tail! 😅
Tumblr media
I made her ring using a blank DIY ring from Etsy and a skull charm intended for nail art
Tumblr media
Her bracelet is made from real Jet beads (I made it by taking apart a human-sized bracelet and restringing part of it). Jet was a very popular stone for mourning jewelry in the Victorian era.

Writeblr Introduction📚
Tumblr media
Hey, hi, howdy! The name's Josephine, but feel free to call me Jojo (pronouns are she/her), your local monster enthusiast and DILF Collector!
My art and writing updates I post a lot on my social media accounts, which are as follows:
Instagram: jojo.writing.art
Twitter: JojoPenguin_Art
TikTok: jojo.penguin.writes
Discord: Jojo the Rad Penguin#3942
Tumblr: my DMs and ask box are always open!💛
I am ALWAYS down for chatting with and meeting other writers, and engaging with others’ content!! The primary genres I work with are:
- Horror (in varying genres, but primarily Gothic) - Paranormal - Monster Romance (I'm aroace as hell, so expect all my romances to be pretty 'clean' - AKA no erotica to be found here!) - Historical Fiction - Light Fantasy
If any of these genres interest you, feel free to keep on reading about my WIPs below the cut! Now about my general writing style...
Most of the stories I write are inspired by two things: fairytales and horror. A majority of my WIPs are either directly inspired or loosely based on some fairytale, folklore, or myth, and most are part of some genre of horror, whether it be Gothic, psychological, folk, survival, or supernatural. Also a lot of my writing influence comes from authors like Angela Carter, Sarah Waters, Caitlin Starling, Shirley Jackson, and Robin McKinley.
A list of my WIPs are below the cut!
Tumblr media
Ghosts Plague These Halls || Novel || Gothic Romance + Historical (1890s) + Paranormal + Gothic Horror + Fairytale Retelling (Beauty and the Beast + Eros and Psyche) || 3rd Draft Edits + My Main WIP
Comp: Crimson Peak + The Bloody Chamber + La Belle et la Bete/Panna a Netvor
Whitechapel, London 1894.  Sophie Wickes and her family struggle to survive, melancholy eats away at her father more and more with each passing day, and her passion for cultivating flowers procures no income. She must swallow her pride and set aside her hatred for England’s aristocracy when she’s offered a chance of employment by the reclusive Lord Edgar Cushing to tend the gardens of his Rosenthorne Hall. However, the estate, its gardens, and their master is nothing what Sophie expected. The house? Rotting, dilapidated, hideous. The gardens? The husk of something alive, whimsical, and beautiful. The master? Faceless, nothing more than a voice from the shadows. Despite her fear and anger, Sophie becomes enthralled by the garden’s potential for mystic, untainted beauty, and she develops a close friendship with Lord Cushing, even though he is nothing but a mere whisper of darkness that pleads for her to never seek him out. However, whatever enchantment the gardens and Lord Cushing’s voice bring her shatters as she begins to receive nightly visitations from a crooked-jawed phantom and butterflies who’s wings whisper of a bloody past and the truth behind the faceless lord's gentlemanly masquerade.

Temperance and Mr. Wyrm || Novella || Body Horror + (Monster) Romance + Drama + Magical Realism + Historical (1980s) + Fairytale Retelling (King Lindworm) || 2nd Draft edits
Comp: The Fly... but make it snakes.
In a loose (and bloody) retelling of the King Lindworm folktale set against the backdrop of 1980s Milwaukee, two people try to navigate their unorthodox romance while an arcane, snake-like infection afflicts, and starts to change, one of them. Temperance Cavell, a six-foot tall woman living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, lives a quiet, unexciting, and demure existence running a convenience store with her mother. But despite her mother's overbearing nature, the nonstop caring of her ailing grandmother, and her near-nonexistent social life, she cannot complain. This life is quiet, she’s (somewhat) in control, and nothing is unexpected… That is until Jack Turner, the motorcycle-riding kleptomaniac with a heart of gold, bursts into her store one Saturday afternoon, and between them a romance reluctantly blooms. But such love is swiftly threatened to shatter when Jack’s body begins to betray him, contorting him into something that is completely, and utterly, non-human.
Tumblr media
The Bones We Haunt || Novella || Gothic Horror + Historical Fiction + Period Drama + Romance || 1st Draft + A.K.A the WIP inspired byJojo simping for Ciarán Hinds
Comp: Jane Eyre + Bluebeard's Bride + The Death of Jane Lawrence + Mexican Gothic
November, 1899. While on holiday in Cambridge and attending museum lectures with her mother, Jane Sterling seeks to make this her chance to officially pursue her love of paleontology. While her family encourages the pursuit of passions and challenging rigid social norms, the institutes in place hinder her passion, making her resort to dressing brightly and speaking loudly for attention. Jane's chance comes to reveal itself in the form of the wealthy and reclusive Sir Terence Hayes, who’s come in search for her father, the esteemed paleobotonist Dr. Samson Sterling, to appraise fossils found in his garden. Her mother eagerly volunteers Jane to go in Dr. Sterling’s place as he remains ill in America, and Terence brings her to his isolated family's estate in the vast, deep, muddy marshes of Wolf’s Run. And the land is shrouded in urban legends. There are whispers of 'The Wolf's Run Beast,' the 'Monster of the Marshes,' that haunts the land under the cover of night, and as Terence leaves Jane to her work he is hell-bent that she's to return to Cambridge before nightfall. However, freak storms rage, causing the marshes' waters to rise and wash out the roads in flash floods before Jane has a chance to return, leaving her stranded at Wolf’s Run - and at the mercy of all that lurks there. As night looms, the staff hastily depart, an eerie silence falls, Terence forbids her from even coming near the cellar, and, most importantly, he warns her against leaving her room before dawn. All is merely a strange act to Jane, brushing it off as the eccentricities of an Englishman, until something comes scratching at her door, hungering for her blood. What started as a mere chance at becoming known swiftly becomes a tumultuous game of blood, teeth, survival, love, and salvation - and Jane must prepare to sharpen teeth of her own if she's to survive the horrors of the Wolf's Run marshes.

Comp: The Silence of the Lambs + Se7en + Gargoyles
Selene Radcliffe is a young freshly-graduated detective, having spent long hours and many sleepless nights researching, studying, and looking through cold case files in an effort to prove herself as skilled of a private investigator as her late father, the renowned and well-respected Det. Arthur Radcliffe. However, she is a woman in a predominately male profession, a woman without a voice–literally and figuratively–and she wants to make a name for herself without relying on whatever legacy her father left behind. When the presence of a serial killer who the media has named “The Big Bad Wolf” on account of the strange, animalistic nature of his murders that occur on the nights of a full moon begin to plague the streets of Milwaukee, Selene sees this as her opportunity to prove herself and her skills to her peers, and she tasks herself and her partner Det. Apollo Esposito to hunt him down.  But it swiftly becomes apparent that the man they are hunting is no man, and may instead be a dreaded creature of folklore–one that is now keen on hunting them down in a blood-red game of cat and mouse…
Tumblr media
The Faeries and the Lark || Novel || Dark/Gothic High Fantasy + Sapphic + Adventure + Fairytale/Folklore Retelling (East of the Sun, West of the Moon + Sleeping Beauty + Scandinavian Folklore) || Development + On-Hiatus
Loosely based on the fairytales Sleeping Beauty and East of the Sun, West of the Moon, as well as Scandinavian folklore, The Faeries and The Lark follows three faeries–spirits of nature–raising a human child they’ve named Lark, the princess of a sun-worshipping kingdom wiped out by a subterranean society of trolls. The faeries devote their lives to protecting Lark from the worlds of man by raising her to believe she’s one of the fae, and to keep her deep in the forest so that she can remain hidden from the trolls that restlessly hunt for the princess that escaped their massacre. But everything the three faeries worked hard for is put to the test when Lark encounters a human named Sigrid, the toughened, sword-wielding chancellor’s daughter from a neighboring moon-worshipping kingdom that’s threatened to be swallowed by the fairies’ forest, and every aspect of her life as she’d known them threaten to crumble around her.

How old was edith as an adult in the movie
That one actually can be answered for certain! In the Art of Darkness, the Crimson Peak art book, there is a slip of paper with a short biography for Edith. There is also ones for other characters in the book as well. Guillermo del Toro was kind enough to tweet all the long versions later on his Twitter account as well. But yes, as to your question since Edith is canonically born Oct 9th, 1877 and the movie takes place in 1901 for when she is an adult, she would be likely 24. My guess is she would be 24 at least by the end of the movie as it is snowing. Though it can snow in some places in Oct, my guess is it is past Oct when the end of the movie takes place.

Were moisturizers hard to come by in the 1880s? I am wondering why Mr. Cushing (although I love how wonderful he is as a father) was so judgey about Thomas's soft hands. Like he's rich (esp. compared to the broke-ass baron), and calluses don't last forever, he can definitely afford lotion and he is shown to enjoy self-care. Also, I highly doubt he is doing the hard labor of his company in his mature age. That scene makes me be like "WTF do you have against moisturizers?!" Am I missing some context in this?
Not remotely. Nor yet in 1901, the "present day" of the movie. Even many poor people could get their hands on a basic Animal Fat + Possibly Some Sort of Scent concoction, and the likes of Carter Cushing could afford to patronize shops on the cutting edge of Victwardian moisturizing technology. Plus, as you say, he's been wealthy for at least 24 years, and therefore presumably not doing manual labor.
So what's going on here?
My guess: the Doylist reason is that they didn't think that hard about the logic of a single throwaway line. The Watsonian reason could be simple vanity. He wears fine clothing because he's somewhat vain, but perhaps paradoxically refuses to use hand cream for the same reason.
Carter resides in that awkward space of the Gilded Age self-made industrialist (with the difference that, unlike many of his peers, he actually is self-made). He is rich, he wants to enjoy the benefits of being rich, but he also has a tremendous amount of identity tied up in his humble beginnings. He wants to be seen as simultaneously the salt of the earth and a man of means. Hence, maybe, an up-to-the minute suit in the finest fabric and hands studiously ignored.
...or he could have been talking about scars, arthritis, bones broken and reset in slightly off ways, etc. Permanent alterations due to manual labor. That raises the question, though, of why Thomas' hands aren't at all "rough." Clockwork and machinery aren't exactly forgiving in that respect- springs snap back and cut you, sharp or heavy tools slip, turning cogs pinch fingers. It's a miracle that his burn in the movie was the first such, if that was indeed the implication.
Then again, I suppose Carter doesn't have a borderline-genius Home Chemist(TM) tirelessly caring for him. I'm sure Edith is concerned with his welbeing, but I don't see her spending much time on nursing or in the stillroom beyond learning the basic household first aid expected of a woman back then.
I bet Lucille's hands are rough.

Peter Cushing’s Twelve Days of Christmas
[From: Past Forgetting]
I got an idea of what to write from a chance remark of his in a recently received letter, in which [Peter Gray] had written ‘Thank you for your two telecoms (’and a partridge in a pear tree!...)’ Those bracketed words end each verse of that seasonal song ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’, which irritates me intensely with its constant repetitions. So I set about doing my own version, and as Peter enjoyed it (’It’s good enough for Punch’, he chortled), I reproduce it here, in the hope that you may also be diverted by this taradiddle.
ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS
My own true love,
What a delightfully unique present you sent to me- a partridge in a pear tree. I’ve planted it in the greenhouse, and the dear little game bird seems so happy and at home in its branches. Thank you, thank you so very much for such a sweet thought. With all my love- ME
ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS
My own true love, Well! Well! A second gift has arrived! Two adorable turtle doves plus another pear tree with a partridge in it! You really are too generous, my sweet, but I do appreciate your thoughts. I’ve put the doves in a cote in the greenhouse, and Percy (as I’ve christened the first partridge) seems very contented to have a playmate.
With all my love- ME
ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS
My own true love,
I wonder if there’s some mistake? Today I received yet another pear tree with a partridge in it, two more turtle doves, and three French hens! I’ve built a coop for them, and put it in the greenhouse amongst all the other livestock, and planted the two extra pear trees. But perhaps you meant these prezzies for someone else, and put my address through force of habit? Do let me know, dear, if this is the case: things are getting a little overcrowded, and Percy has turned nasty over the new arrivals. With all my love- ME
ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS
Luv- Aren’t you overdoing it a bit, or have you won the pools?!!!? Carter Paterson has just delivered four singing blackbirds, two more turtle doves, three more French hens and another pear tree with- would you believe it- a partridge in it! In haste- affc. yrs- ME P.S. I’m having to extend the greenhouse.
ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS
Look, this is getting to be too much of a good thing. It’s costing me a small fortune in bird seed and glass for the greenhouse. Today I not only received five ore of everything which came yesterday, but five gold rings to boot, which I’ve had to pawn to help pay for above. And I’m getting sick of the sight of partridges in pear trees. If you must keep sending me things, please don’t keep repeating them. Yours- ME
ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS
What are you trying to do to me, you old bat? Mother’s up to her waist in bird droppings, and is threatening to leave home, when there arrives, by special delivery, one pear tree, one partridge, two turtle doves, three French hens, four singing blackbirds, five gold rings (those I was glad to get) and a cartload of six oversexed geese laying eggs all over the place. ME
ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS
YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR THIS TIME. I’ve had to get planning permission to build a farmyard and dig a pond to accommodate the seven swimming swans which arrived today, along with the other pests. I’ve been kept awake by all those damn doves cooing at each other all night, the neighbours are beginning to complain about the noise, and I’m driven balmy by colly birds twittering all day, French hens clucking, partridges fighting, and the thud of dropping eggs. Stop it, d’you hear? - STOP IT. I’m losing patience, as well as all my friends. ME
ON THE EIGHTH, NINTH, TENTH, ELEVENTH AND TWELFTH DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
Tweedle, Dum and Dee Solicitors, Carey Street, LONDON, E.C.
Dear Madam, Before our client left the country for an indefinite period (desnation unknown) he instructed us to get in touch with you regarding the following items, as to what you’d like done with them. (He did make a suggestion, but in the interest of common decency, we have decided not to pass it on.)
12 Partridges (extremely aggressive) in a like number of Pear Trees 22 Turtle Doves 30 French Hens 36 Blackbirds (singing) 40 Gold Rings (pawn tickets) 42 Laying Geese 42 Swimming Swans 40 Milkmaids 36 Drummers 30 Pipers 22 Dancing Ladies 12 Leaping Lords
A total of 364 gifts, plus innumerable goose eggs.
We would appreciate the favour of an early reply, owing to the fact that there are now cows available to keep the maids occupied, and hostilities have broken out between the drummers, the pipers and the leaping lords, all seeking the attentions of the aforementioned maidens and ladies.
The behaviour of the fauna is equally disgusting.
We regret to inform you that our client went beserk when offered roast partridge stuffed with pears for dinner, and that the goose eggs have addled.
We are, Madam, your obedient servants. HY AM DUM (Signed for and on behalf of Tweedle, Dum and Dee)

24 Days of La Fayette: December 6th - Major Carter Page
The American born Carter Page (1758 to April 9, 1825) was La Fayette aide-de-camp from June of 1781 until November of the same year. Six eventful months in total. But his war service started long before his stint as La Fayette’s aide-de-camp. Page was commissioned a Captain of the 3rd Virginia Regiment, a Regiment of Dragoons, under the direct command of Colonel George Baylor, on April 10, 1778 – the Marquis de La Fayette in his position as Major-General was the commander of the whole division. On April 11, 1778, George Washington wrote to Colonel Stephen Moylan:
Capt. Jones and Lieut. Page have not been in Camp to my knowledge.
“From George Washington to Colonel Stephen Moylan, 11 April 1778,” Founders Online, National Archives, [Original source: The Papers of George Washington, Revolutionary War Series, vol. 14, 1 March 1778 – 30 April 1778, ed. Washington still referred to Page by his former rank. While the muster rolls of Valley Forge noted his commission in April 1778, they did not note the date of his arrival at camp. Page came from a prominent Virginian family, and it is therefore no too surprising, that he was made a Captain by the age of 19/20. Further promotions were scarcer, though by the end of the war he had been promoted to the rank of Major. On May 18, 1781, La Fayette wrote in a letter to Nathanael Greene:
There are also Some few Volunteer Gentlemen Under Captain Page. They are Very clever But Volonteers. We Had Some Militia Horse. Their time Was out and they Went Home this Morning. Happy I Have Been that we Have Got Some Accoutrements furnished to them By the public.

Carter Page was at this point in time not yet one of La Fayette’s aide-de-camps and I actually knew of only one letter that La Fayette wrote Page while the latter served in the described capacity. The letter was written on July 5, 1781 and the Marquis instructs the Captain that the British allegedly plan to infect the population of the Williamsburg area with smallpox. La Fayette instructs Page to come up with ideas to thwart this design.
Carter Page was born to Jane Byrd (Page) and John Williamson Page. He was brother to f Mann Page III, William Byrd Page, Jane Byrd Page, Judith Carter (Page) Nelson, Mary Page, Maria Molly Page, Matthew Page, Robert Page, Lucy Page and Thomas Page.
He married twice during his life. Firstly Mary Cary (Page) shortly after the War of Independence on April 4, 1783. The couple were the parents of eight children, namely John Cary Page, Henry Page, Carter Page, Lavinia Randolph Page, Carter Page, Mann Page, William Page and Mary Isham Page. Four of their children, Carter Page, Lavinia Randolph Page, Carter Page and William Page died young, none older than three years old. Their youngest daughter Mary Isham Page also died young. She was killed at the age of 17 in the Richmond Theatre fire in Virginia, on December 26, 1811.
Carter married a second time; 1799, about two years after the death of his first wife, he married Lucy Nelson (Page). With Lucy, Carter had an additional seven children, namely Thomas Nelson Page, William Nelson Page, Lucy Jane (Page) Cushing, Nelson Page, Robert Burwell Page, Thomas Page and Mary Maria (Page) Dame. This time, thankfully all of the children except young Thomas Nelson Page survived infancy and early childhood.
Carter’s children married and had families of their own. Their descendants were still proud to cite Carter Page’s Revolutionary War service and two of his descendants were featured in different books, including elaborate ancestry charts.
First is the Reverend George W. Dame, the husband to Carters youngest daughter Mary Maria:

Secondly we have a veteran of the American Civil War, Richard Canning Moore Page, MD.

A Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in the town of New Canaan, Connecticut, has sold for $6 million—25 percent below its asking price—to an undisclosed buyer. Called Tirranna, the 7,000-square-foot estate, built in 1955, is one of the famed architect’s largest residential projects, and one of his last.
Most recently selling for $4.8 million in 2018, Tirranna is among the higher-priced Frank Lloyd Wright properties on record, as well as one of the most expensive properties sold in New Canaan in the last year. It is one of a handful of Wright properties to enter the market recently, which also includes the Mrs. Clinton Walker House in California, his only oceanfront home.

Tirranna was listed by Coldwell Banker Global Luxury’s Albert Safdie and Marsha Charles, who closed on the property January 22. “It was a rare honor to represent Tirranna,” they said, “a true gem of mid-century architectural history that will continue to provide a Zen-like experience blending nature and comfort to its latest inhabitants.”
Though small in size, the idyllic town of New Canaan became a hotbed of architectural experimentation in the 20th century. It’s estimated that, between 1948 and 1973, upwards of 100 Modernist homes were built in the area by architectural greats who included Marcel Breuer (creator of the Whitney Museum of American Art on the Upper East Side), John M. Johansen, and Eliot Noyes. They were part of the Harvard Five, a group of architects who settled in New Canaan in the 1940s after graduating from the university’s design department. Philip Johnson’s famed Glass House, too, calls New Canaan home. Like Wright, they all emphasized simplicity, functionality, and honesty of materials.
Tirranna gets its name from an Australian Aboriginal word meaning “running waters,” referring to a nearby stream and recalling the architect’s most iconic residential project, Fallingwater in Pennsylvania. The classic Usonian abode features seven bedrooms, eight and a half bathrooms, and a wine cellar converted from a bomb shelter. Tirranna’s interior features Philippine mahogany paneling, Cherokee-red Colorundum concrete flooring, and a clerestory for an abundance of natural light. The architect also provided large windows that look out onto nature. In 1958, an observatory was added above the master bedroom.

The land immediately surrounding the home was transformed into gardens by horticulturist Frank Okamura and landscape architect Charles Middeleer. Okamura is credited with reviving the bonsai tradition in America through his decades-long work at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and his book The Art of Bonsai. A greenhouse, circular pool, tennis court, barn, playhouse, and a one-room guesthouse can also be found on the grounds.
Wright himself briefly stayed in the home while overseeing the construction of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum some 40 miles away in Manhattan. With its semicircular style, Tirranna mirrors the spiral concrete ramp that makes the Guggenheim one of the most recognizable pieces of architecture in the city. The greenhouse of Tirranna was even built using scalloped-glass windows left over from the Guggenheim project.
