Invite Me to the Wedding
Anon - you asked for something Captain Carter/Angie. I hope you enjoy this!
"Look, grandma, you need to put yourself out there. It's been what? Eighty years since you last saw action?"
Peggy wrinkled her nose in distaste and took another bite of her sandwich.
Natasha smirked. "Hit a little too close to home?"
Peggy finished her ham and cheese and slowly drank the last few sips of her water.
Natasha laughed. "What about Nate Matthews in R&D? You've talked to him a few times."
Peggy shook her head. "He's pleasant, but not my type."
Natasha leaned closer. "What about Couls-"
Peggy held up a finger and glared. "His hero worship aside, Phil Coulson is like a younger brother to me, and the mere thought of entertaining him in that capacity is horrifying." Peggy's glare faltered when their waitress, Angie, stopped and set a slice of pie in front of each of them.
Peggy looked up in confusion. "We didn't order any pie."
Angie smiled. "They're on the house."
"Oh, that's awfully kind of you," Peggy said.
"I know you like the apple pie here," Angie continued. She looked toward Natasha. “Your pal here has a bigger sweet tooth than anyone I’ve ever met. How come I’ve never seen you around?”
Peggy seemed at a loss for words, and Natasha was intrigued.
"If you ladies need anything else, let me know," Angie said, and Natasha could swear she heard the disappointment in her voice.
"Yes, of course," Peggy murmured. "Thank you, ah, Angie."
"My pleasure, Captain Carter." She glanced at Natasha before shifting her attention back to Peggy. "See you for lunch tomorrow?" she asked.
Peggy's ears turned red, but she nodded.
"Can't wait," Angie smiled, delight evident in her eyes. She laid the check on the table and hurried away toward another customer.
Natasha grinned. So, that's how it was.
As Peggy watched Angie leave, Natasha leaned over and poked her in the arm.
"Wow," she teased.
"Don't be crass."
Natasha laughed. "You're ancient, Cap, but you're not dead."
"What's that supposed to mean," Peggy huffed.
"Please. She likes you."
Peggy frowned. "Don't be daft. She's just being friendly."
Natasha laughed. "Right, and I was just Tony’s assistant."
"How he manages to be more insufferable than Howard is still a mystery."
"Regardless," Natasha said, "It's obvious that you like her. How often do you come here, anyway?"
Peggy blushed.
"Twice a week?"
"It doesn't matter.”
"Four times a week?"
"I like the food here," Peggy protested.
"Cap, are you here every day?" Natasha teased.
Peggy shot her a dirty look. "I am not here every day."
"You take the Sabbath off?"
Peggy rolled her eyes and picked up the check. "May we go?"
"Only if you promise to ask her out."
"What?"
"Ask her out. That’s allowed now, you know,"
"No."
Natasha grinned. "If you don't, I will."
Peggy glared at her. "You'll do no such thing."
"Watch me."
Natasha lifted a finger to get Angie's attention and motioned for her to come over.
"Stop it," Peggy hissed.
"Last chance," Natasha grinned as Angie arrived at the table.
"Did you need something else?"
Natasha smirked. "My friend wants to ask you a question."
Peggy looked like she wanted to murder Natasha, but her anger deflated when Angie trained her gaze on her.
"Yes?"
Peggy looked at Angie with uncertainty, and Angie looked equally uncomfortable in return.
Natasha sighed. Peggy was acting like a teenager. She might be a war hero, but if she didn't find her footing, this Cap would crash and burn before ever leaving the runway. She opened her mouth to put them out of their misery, but Peggy spoke first, apparently having found her resolve.
"Might I borrow your pen?"
"My pen?" Angie asked, confused.
Peggy nodded.
"Um, sure," Angie said. She reached into her pocket and produced a cheap click pen.
"Thank you," Peggy said. She smiled at Angie and then looked expectantly at Natasha. "Your half is fourteen dollars."
Natasha reached into her wallet and handed Peggy twenty.
Peggy took it, scribbled something across their check, and then placed Natasha's money and another twenty atop it. She handed the pen back to Angie and smiled.
"Thank you, Angie. We don't need any change."
Angie appeared confused, but she took the pen and picked up the money and check. As she read Peggy's message, she began to smile, and when she looked up, her cheeks were pink.
"I would love to," she told Peggy.
"Excellent," Peggy murmured.
Angie smiled shyly. "And I can text you at this number?"
Peggy looked embarrassed. "It might be easier if you called. I'm still getting the hang of texting."
"Sounds good." Angie winked
"I look forward to it.”
Angie beamed. "Me too." She glanced at a booth a few rows over and bit her lip. "I have to go, but I'll call," she promised as she scurried away.
Natasha grinned at Peggy as she gathered her things.
"Stop staring."
"I'm not."
"You are," Peggy growled. "I can feel it."
Natasha shrugged. "You know, Stark told me paranoia is a side effect of the thawing process."
Peggy rolled her eyes. "Oh, do shut up."
Natasha laughed and grabbed her pack as she made her way to the door. "I only have one request, Cap."
Peggy narrowed her eyes. "I'm afraid to ask, but I will."
Natasha stepped through and allowed Peggy to exit first.
"Send me a wedding invite, okay?"
The horrified look on Peggy's face was well worth the punch in the arm. Natasha continued laughing as Peggy stalked down 42nd Street and made a note to remind her of this moment the day Peggy married that waitress. She wouldn’t be surprised.

Fic Writer Interview
Tagged by @veliseraptor right when I turned work notifications off for 2 hours which feels auspicious
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
148 😅
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
1,201,484! For a couple years there, I was kind of cranking but now I basically haven't written fic for two years so uh. chilling at 1.2 million
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
This is always mildly upsetting to me because my favorites are rarely the winners lol
a bow for the bad decisions (3536)
willow branches and flowers (2785)
upon this altar (2745)
heart + bone (2090)
whipstitch (2024)
...well at least I like 2 of these lol
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! I used to respond to every comment and then got overwhelmed and fell completely behind and THEN decided to clean house and answer all of the remaining ones...and the next day posted heart + bone and now have uh... 688 AO3 emails sitting in my inbox :') I periodically try to go in and answer at least a handful but honestly it's gotten very sporadic
5. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Off hesperus! I don't think I write a lot of true angst or tragedies tbh. But that one was meant to be 100% genuine, no happy endings angst. And admittedly it's not AS bad as it could have been but. it is probably as bad as I am likely to write (unfortunately (?), I left my "kill all your fave characters, make everyone suffer, burn it down!!!" writing vibes back in middle school mostly).
6. What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
I have so much fluff how am I supposed to pick. ...most of my tgcf fics? heart + bone and sunlight, sunlight, sunlight are pretty absurdly fluffy by the end.
7. Do you write crossovers?
Not really. Back in the olden days (high school/college), I did more—see: whisper something holy, the OG loki fic... I think there were some others?—but it's pretty rare now.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
ehhh not really hate, just some folks who got lost and wound up mad in the comments that *checks notes* local complexity lover let characters be complex. I just turned off anonymous comments for a while and it was fine
9. Do you write smut?
Sometimes! I tend to write (& draw) smut when I'm stuck in a rut (pun sadly not intended), stressed, and struggling to make things which is. something to know about myself. but also means that it often serves as sort of an on ramp to making art that I care about more and so it's often left unfinished.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so? I have no idea how I'd know but honestly, I think my writing is enough directed toward my interests/wants that it's not a prime candidate for stealing lol
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes!! it's so cool!! and if she leads was translated into mandarin which!! is bonkers to me that's so much work
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I don't think I've ever actually done it. Isaac (@/lemeute) and I have co-developed a few ideas before but I think they went the way of the raccoon poll and sort of died in discord (though the yanqing AU did contribute to me drawing art!)
13. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Ah I really struggle with this. Really high up there, and probably chief in staying power, is Altair/Malik(/& Maria) and then in terms of ones that have sort of rewritten my brain chemistry it's like Stucky, Cartinelli, Cap2 Crew, Ranwan, Hualian, Destiel...uh I'm definitely missing some there but that's a sampler!
14. What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
;A; oh god. I mean. a short list:
wulian au
yunmeng jiang everyone dies
bodyswap (mdzs)
light dancer (atla)
I have many more wips but they're in more varying stages of either "I don't actually care that much if I finish these" (all unfinished MCU fics) or "I will actually finish this" (sixteen stitches).
15. What are your writing strengths?
uhhhhhhhhhh i hate this question bc my brain is immediately like "here is a laundry list of everything ur bad at and ALSO ur wrong. abt the things ur good at." bc well. mental wellness. ANYWAY i think I'm like ?? pretty good at creating intensity in writing??? I've talked about it before as viscerality and it is that but also like emotional intensity. and I do think I can craft a pretty turn of phrase here and there
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
well. plot, for one thing. having one? executing one? keeping it consistent without giant holes for everything to fall apart through? nahh. Similarly, continuity overall is! not a strength. Do you know how many notes there are in TCP asking myself to just sketch out a blueprint of the palace where 90% of the first book takes place. can u imagine
there are. more. but i will pause there
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I think it's something that needs to be done with intent and like. care. like, okay. actually I feel extremely subjective about this. Like on the one hand, I think there are times when I think using another language provides important connotative information that is lost when translating to English* (e.g., Wei Wuxian calling Lan Wangji er-gege or Jiang Yanli shijie which don't have very direct counterparts in English, but also if I were to write about my teacher calling me "chica" rather than "girl"). On the other hand, I think it's very important to be cautious (particularly as a white anglophone) about...like. Seasoning Ur Dialogue with Spicy Bits of Other Languages (I am struck by flashbacks of fanon Lance from VLD. bls.). ON THE THIRD HAND, depending on the POV of the work, writing dialogue in a different language can serve different functions in the text (e.g., if the reader knows what it means but the character doesn't, we can have some nice dramatic irony! when it's done well; if the character knows what it means but the reader doesn't, it can build suspense; if both know what it means, it can give insights into different character dynamics/backgrounds/etc.), but again, it should be done with care and intent.
uh i don't know that this actually answered the question or anything. i have feelings???? and minimally coherent thoughts?
*I am being so brave rn in trying not to go down a rabbithole about translation and meaning ;A;
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Marvel :')
19. What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
hh hold on i need to go holler at lise and huaqing possibilities
anYWAY yanqing, xianle quartet (variably romantic), erha*, huaqing*, the king's affection**
*technically i've written once for these but like. not fr fr
**I still haven't finished this bc I am inexplicably stressed abt my blorbos suffering but STILL
20. What's your favorite fic you've written?
oh gosh I feel like a broken record bc my fave fics have pretty much been the same for a long time but yeah, of swords and wings is still pretty much my fave largely because, even as it has aged (and I have become more critical of the actual writing), it was so finely tailored to my specific preferences, headcanons, and wants that it still remains quite loved
tagging anyone who wants to do this! (sorry, laziness wins)

What are five fics you enjoyed reading this year?
I apologize for taking a few days to answer this, anon - I was frozen in indecision because I have enjoyed reading SO MANY amazing fics this year. In the end, I realized that, although there is no way I could possibly pick my favourite five, that's not actually what you asked!
So, here, in no particular order, is a random selection of five of the many, many fics I've l enjoyed reading this year:
Dance a Tarantella by Beshter (Clint Barton/Laura Barton, but the focus is on their familial relationship with Natasha in the early days after she defected). Also a part of Beshter's fabulous Timeless series (in which Peggy is brought forward in time by Scott Lang to a couple of years before Steve is unfrozen, and the MCU unspools somewhat differently from there).
"Time and Space", aka Chapters 10-12 of My Heart Don't Wish to Roam by @buckywiththegoodhair86 (Steggy) - a Dr. Who AU, part of a very long story that consists of a collection of excellent Steggy AUs.
The Stars Are Cold and Distant (but also Soft and Aching) by Tamoline (PeggyNat) - set in the What If universe with Captain Carter in the future. Note: if you are a Steggy fan who would not enjoy reading a story in which there is a possibility that Peggy might not end up with Steve, this one is probably not for you! But Peggy and Steve's love and affection for each other is not dismissed either.
To Be Where You Are by @roboticonography (Steggy) - I am always very excited when Robot posts a new story, and I have a special fondness for his wartime Steggy - possibly because the very first Steggy fic I remember reading was "The Simple Secret", also by Robot. Anyway, I did indeed love "To Be Where You Are", in which Steve is sent to extract Peggy from a spy mission from which she's late in returning.
A Somebody I'm Longin' to See by @eliza49-7190 (Cartinelli) - an excellent Peggy/Angie fic that does not shy away from the depth of Peggy's grief for Steve or diminish how much she loved him, is realistic about some of the differences Peggy and Angie would have to work through, and also goes into interesting detail about Peggy's work at the SSR after the Agent Carter series is over.

Hello! I'm Scar, 27, bi woman seeking RP partners. I like to write with heavy exposition and internal character contextualize, and as canon-adjacent as possible (with the only AU I might possibly seek being femslash). Multi-paragraph, the longer the better! Looking for 21+ plus writers, okay with smut is a definite bonus, and I'm okay with writing any characters in the plots I'm seeking! I'm SUPER open to plotting, requesting rewrites of my responses if needed for your character interaction, or even straight up starting from scratch/exploring other plots and pairings if we get bored but gel with each other's writing style. :)
Primary ships I'm currently seeking:
- Lokius (ideally to start early in the TVA days with so much yearning)
- Spones (TOS or AOS)
- McSpirk (likely with a shared character, TOS or AOS)
- Cartinelli
I can work over email or I recently got into discord c:

So, I decided to post the beginnings of my reforming Dottie au for those interested.
Summary:
A stage without players is a thing of great tragedy. It’s like a song with no tune, or a wordsmith with no words. Cold, desolate and tinged with the most unshakeable hint of melancholy. Many would say there is nothing worse than the anticipation of times long lost still hanging heavy in the air as though waiting for the audience that will never come.
They would be wrong.

Picking up the Pieces
“I’m telling ya’, Gloria, all that soulmate stuff is nonsense.”
“And I’m telling you, Angie, it’s real.”
“Oh yeah?” Angie stared at her coworker skeptically. “If that’s the case, then why don’t I have someone’s name scrawled across my wrist or something?”
Carol sighed and tossed a dishrag at Angie. “We’ve gone over this, silly. Not everyone gets a name. Some people can only see in black and white until they meet their one true love. A few people can even feel the other person’s pain. That’s how some nurses have met their soulmates.”
Angie rolled her eyes. “You know anyone specific, Gloria, or is this stuff you’ve read in Cosmo?
“Honest to God, Ang! Carol said her cousin’s best friend’s sister saw color when she met her fella.”
Angie laughed. “Well, I’ve never seen in black and white, and I’ve got enough scars and bruises from derby to have met a soulmate by now.” She held up her arms and nodded at the little knicks and lines that dotted her forearms.
Gloria shrugged and looked at the faint name that looped around her wrist. “All I know is this name appeared when I was fourteen.” She sighed. “And now I’m twenty-four.”
Angie stopped laughing and reached for Gloria’s wrist. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I shouldn’t make fun of it. I know how important it is to you.” She read the name on her friend’s wrist and smiled. “And who knows? Maybe Andrew Stevens will come for a latte one of these days.”
“Maybe,” Gloria agreed wistfully.
“But until he does, you’re still going to the club for Friday night frenzies with me, right?”
Gloria grinned. “Of course I am!”
“Thank God,” Angie laughed. “Carol keeps sending drinks to women on my behalf, and I’m running out of polite ways to tell them that it wasn’t really me.”
“The trials of Angie Martinelli,” Gloria exclaimed dramatically. “If only we all had problems like you.”
“You laugh,” Angie grumbled, “But it’s tough. Why can’t I meet a nice girl that I can bring home to my family? Someone who has her life together.”
Gloria nudged Angie. “And beautiful?”
“That’d be a nice bonus,” Angie agreed.
Gloria looked over the counter. “Maybe someone like your favorite English customer?”
Angie sighed. “Don’t I wish?”
“You could ask her out, you know.”
Angie shook her head. “No! She’s way out of my league.”
Gloria glared at her. “She is not out of your league.”
Angie stared back incredulously. “Have you seen her?” She waved a hand in the woman’s direction. “Have you heard her talk?”
“I have,” Gloria smirked. “Her accent is adorable.”
“Adorable,” Angie scoffed. “It’s sinful.”
Gloria raised an eyebrow. “Oh, is it?”
“Stop!” Angie swatted her with a cleaning rag.
“I’m not the one who has a crush on the English woman with a sinful accent.”
Angie turned away and huffed. “I am never telling you anything again.”
“She comes in three times a week, always sits in your area, and makes a point to ask you how your day is going. Ask her out already.”
“She’s friendly,” Angie explained.
“She doesn’t talk to anyone else,” Gloria argued.
“So, she’s selectively friendly,” Angie said. “That doesn’t mean she’s interested in me.”
Gloria folded her arms and glared at Angie. “Do you even know her name?”
Angie blushed. “She always pays with cash.”
“Angie! She’s been coming in here for a month.”
“I call her English,” Angie confessed as she took a fresh pie from the kitchen window and set it down on the counter. “It slipped out one day. She didn’t seem to mind, so it stuck.”
Gloria narrowed her eyes. “I swear to God, if you don’t get her name today, I will take matters into my own hands.”
Angie gasped. “You will not!”
“Try me,” Gloria pressed.
Angie picked up a knife and began to slice the pie. “Okay, I’ll ask her what her name is before she leaves today. Happy?”
Gloria nodded. “Before she leaves. Promise?”
“Promise,” Angie said. She went to make another slice but dropped the knife when a glass shattered across the room.
“Ow!”
Gloria looked at her in concern. “Did you cut yourself?”
“I don’t think so, but…,” Angie looked at her left hand in confusion as a small wound appeared along her palm and a faint trickle of blood welled along the edges. “I don’t understand,” she said.
“Um, Angie,” Gloria murmured.
Angie looked up to see Gloria pointing across the room to a booth. A booth where her favorite English customer was currently kneeling, picking up the pieces of a shattered coffee cup as a line of bright red blood bloomed across her palm.
Angie swayed and felt Gloria’s hands settle on her waist.
“Easy there, Ang.”
“This isn’t possible,” Angie whispered.
“Looks like it is,” Gloria said. She nodded toward the English woman. “You want me to go over there?”
Angie shook her head. “No. I promised you that I’d get her name.”
Gloria shook her head. “That was before…” she waved a hand between Angie and the woman.
Angie grinned weakly. “Well, no time like the present, I guess.” She wrapped a towel around her palm and reached for a clean towel.
“Good luck!” Gloria smiled.
Angie felt like weights were tied to her ankles as she walked across the room and knelt beside the woman she only knew as English.
“I am so sorry,” the woman told her. “I knocked it off the table when I reached for my phone. I can pay to replace it.”
Angie smiled. “It’s okay. Happens all the time.” She reached for the woman’s injured hand. “Here, let me wrap that for you until you can get somewhere to clean it up.”
English smiled in relief and allowed Angie to take her hand. “That’s awfully kind of you.”
“Not at all,” Angie said.
The woman looked at the towel wrapped around Angie’s hand. “Oh no! Did you injure your hand, too?”
Angie took a deep breath. “Not exactly.”
English looked at her quizzically and then down to Angie’s left hand. When she looked back at Angie, her eyes held understanding.
Angie let out the breath she’d been holding. “You know I’m Angie, but I only know you as English. But I figure maybe I should know your name given that….” She looked down at their mutually wrapped hands. “Look, I don’t even know if I believe in all this soulmate stuff-”
She stopped talking when English placed her uninjured hand over Angie’s hand.
“I’m Peggy Carter,” the English woman said.
“Angie Martinelli.”
Peggy smiled. “It’s nice to meet you, Angie.”
Angie laughed. “You, too, Peggy.”
Peggy looked at their hands. “I think we should tend to these cuts, but perhaps later this evening, we could get something to eat and discuss this?”
Angie smiled. “I would love to.”
Peggy looked delighted. “Wonderful.”
Angie looked at the shattered cup on the floor beneath them and grinned. Gloria would be insufferable now. But, as she looked back at Peggy and saw how the Englishwoman was looking at her, she decided it was worth it. After all, she might have just found her soulmate.

I've been reading a lot of FirstPrince fic and for some reason it's got me all nostalgic about writing fic again and making me want to post the 60k actor AU stucky & cartinelli fic I wrote a couple years ago but never posted. It would take a lot of editing, but would that be something people would want? *taps mic* is this fandom still on?

Hi,
I decided to post links to two stories which have connections to the story I just finished, 'A Somebody I'm Longin' to See.'
This is partly so I can post the banners, which show up bigger in a post than on my tumblr blog pages, where I first uploaded them - no idea how to change the coding on blog pages to make the banners wider (that's wa-ay beyond my tumblr know-how!)
Here's a link to 'A Safe Community for Modern Female Professionals,' a Cartinelli fic set during Season 1 of 'Agent Carter' - 'A Somebody I'm Longin' to See,' is the sequel to this story.
Available of AO3 here
Part 1 of Modern Female Professionals series
(I've also previously posted a link to my story 'An Unexpected Detour on the Way to Saving the World.' 'A Sombody I'm Longin' to See' can be read as a kind AU prequel to 'An Unexpected Detour,' if you want to view it this way.)
