So, with the new legends there's a neat way we can take a guess at some of the time frame. Although it's largely aesthetic and hard to gauge the intended historical parallels of, the not-Eiffel Tower at the center of the city could presumably have been completed in the late 1880s like the real thing. Interestingly that places it pretty concurrent to the construction of the Hokkaido Government building in the 1870s that served as the basis of the Galaxy Team HQ in the first Legends game.

But with the keywords being "urban redevelopment" the setting could only possibly be Haussman's renovation of Paris that took place from the 1850s-1920s. So given that the tower is already standing, that places Legends Z-A between 1889 and 1927.

And I doubt it would play into the setting of a Pokemon game but I think it's neat that it would mean taking place firmly in the 3rd French Republic, as that's not typically the most romanticized period of French history. (Kind of shocking given just how much Japanese pop culture loves to fixate on the Ancien Regime and Rococco architecture.) It's right at the height of the French Colonial empire and their rivalry with the British... Even if they don't address the history directly, certainly not the darker bits, I wonder if we'll see an ancestor of Rose* and some mention of Kalos and Galar's relation as a hint at the Pokemon world's equivalent of India. (Elephant, what elephant...)

Also I know a lot of the stupid "leaks" that were just running with any/every rumor they could find had been talking about Celebi, despite there being no signs of it in the direct, but it's possible that the Z-A title and the fadethru of the sort of sci-fi looking city diagram into a pencil and parchment one is indicating going back in time --backwards, from Z to A, end to start.

and just so long as I'm just picking at edges of things...

The unknown are an anagram of, "POKEMON PRESENTS"(oh and the SOEYUE one at the end is just "SEE YOU") and the ""confidential"" stamp on the documents likely reads "Gokuhi" as in gokuhi[極秘]: "Top Secret," but the rest of the text doesn't seem to match either Japanese, French, or English,

Hito to POKEMON no kyouzon o yumemite[人と ポケモンの共存を夢見て]: "Dreaming of people and Pokemon's coexistence" Toshisaikaibatsu hassou MIARE CITY[都市再開発発想ミアレシティ]: "Urban Redevelopment Concept Miare City"

The obvious exception being that redacted text is clearly the romanized MIARE from the Japanese MIARE[ミアレ] and the English CITY, which is the Japanese name for what was localized as "Lumiose."

Curiously the word "Pokemon" is very clearly missing from the passage, and also in both cases there are too few "Galarian" characters for how long the phrases are in any actual language.

and finally, given some of the existing examples of handwritten Galarian in SwSh, I'm guessing the text on the big logo is as i've transcribed into the more standard Galar font, although I'm really uncertain about that second one, and a bit iffy about the big "X"s, but the little cyclone O, the V with the underbar, and the E seem certain enough.

Also there's a logo I know I remember seeing that looks like this one but I can't remember where it is or what it's associated with.... It's the logo on the Macro Cosmos power plant. Not Rose's personal logo with the stylized rose, and not the Cosmos business logo with the big star system orbital ring Cs, but the power plant in Hammerlock where you go to fight Eternatus specifically.

It would be really neat if whatever this organization is was tied back to an ancestor of Rose and Peony and the origins of Macro Cosmos somehow.

Hi everyone! I’m Royce Harmonia, aspiring photographer and huge Bug-Type enthusiast! Me and my sister are from a small region called Laeros. Oh, and our Celebi buddy is a Laerosan Celebi, so if you’re wondering why it looks different, that’s why!

I’m fifteen, and Lottie is thirteen. If you’re wondering what a couple of kids are doing running around by themselves then, uh- well, long story short, we’re time travelers! We jump from timeline to timeline with Celebi’s powers, where we explore and document each new version of our world we discover. Don’t worry- we’re super careful not to mess anything up! We can even visit your timeline and hang out, if you’d like!

We each sign off with our own respective emotes. Lotus’ is, well, a lotus, mine is a crown, and Celebi’s is an hourglass. But we all kinda have our distinct typing styles so it’s pretty easy to distinguish who’s who! But just in case we’ll add in the tags whoever’s speaking.

Steven's face was haggard and drawn. They all were. "Blue was in Western Kalos when the Ultimate Weapon went off -- "

Cynthia narrowed her eyes, still puffy and rimmed with red. "He's not the only person who lost a partner that day. He should be here."

"--AND Giovanni has been running a tight ship in Kanto. Red could be anywhere."

"Okay," Gene's voice was hoarse. "Okay. But Lysandre did ALL of this. You can't just -- let him take over -- you can replace the United Regions for now -- "

No one would meet his eyes.

"He has resources." Leon saw Generic's mouth open and cut him off, more forcefully this time. "Yes, mate, he's got us cornered! We're falling into his trap, yeah? Well, we have regions to feed and we've got no power. I'll walk into the void and back if it'll keep Galar alive."

Murmurs of assent ran through the dimly lit meeting hall. Exhausted glance met exhausted glance and trepidation steeled into a quiet resolve among the standing champions. Generic swallowed. "Fine. You -- keep your regions alive. Take care of the people. I'll -- I'll -- find a way to stop -- Lysandre. That is -- the whole reason I exist."

He managed to march into the hall and shut the door curtly behind him before his legs gave out. Back against the wall and grateful for something solid in his life, he cried.

"You have been QUITE the pest." Lysandre peered at Generic from across the table, his interlaced fingers just barely hiding his smirk of victory. "I must say, I almost admire your determination to, what was it? Something colorful -- ah yes. 'Rend me limb from limb.'"

"Well, you know what they say about sharing your inner beauty." Generic's words dripped with sarcasm and what he hoped was malice.

The corner of Lysandre's mouth twitched. Shit. That wasn't supposed to be funny.

"Now, now. You haven't even introduced yourself yet!"

"Fuck you."

A disapproving frown. Better, but he still looked too relaxed.

"You only caught me this time because you were lucky. If I weren't restrained, you'd have been dead by now."

This time, Lysandre chuckled -- a deep, rich sound. Somehow, that was even more irritating.

"I believe you, of course." Lysandre leaned back in his seat comfortably and put his hands behind his head, completely at home despite the hundreds of frozen Pokemon lining the walls. "Why, if looks could kill -- but they can't, now, can they? And unfortunately, you haven't been so effective at it yourself either, have you?"

Before Generic could think of a good retort, a cheerful-looking man in that stupid Team Flare outfit trotted up to the table, handing Lysandre a file and a mug of coffee. Generic's eyes flitted towards the cup in spite of himself -- it smelled so good... How long had it been since he'd had something warm to --

He kicked himself under the table. This wasn't the time to think about being tired... or thirsty... or --

Lysandre had already noticed his lingering gaze, and his stupid smirk had returned. He began to comment on what he was reading -- "tsk, tsk, you have no records before 2013... You've certainly kept a low profile. ...ah, but you were the Hoenn champion for a few months? And here I thought we were dealing with a nobody..."

After a few more minutes, he sighed with mock pity and threw the file onto the table, its contents spilling out for Generic to see.

"Celebi's hero. Aren't you a bit late to try to stop me?"

Those words felt worse to Generic than anything else Lysandre could have said or done to him, and he had to take several deep breaths to keep the stinging in his eyes from turning into tears. There was no way he could let this monster know that he'd gotten to him.

"I do feel a certain sense of responsibility towards you." Lysandre stood leaned over the table, towering over his nemesis. "After all, we are both in pursuit of a more beautiful world, and I am a merciful leader. I'll even ignore your previous transgressions; after all, even Giovanni tried to betray me before we came to our current agreement."

His voice softened, but his stare was as intense and unwavering as ever. "Wouldn't you prefer to do something more productive? Aren't you tired? You could work here in Alola and live a normal life. As everyone else is choosing to. Right now, you're entirely alone. What do you have to lose?"

Generic looked up at the ceiling and began to whistle as obnoxiously as he could, and Lysandre sat back down and sighed. "What a pity."

In an instant, Mewtwo appeared behind Generic and teleported him away. The last thing he saw of the room was -- satisfyingly -- Lysandre's look of shock as he lost his quarry.

"Thank you." Generic patted Mewtwo's head and handed them a massive pile of coins and PokeBeans. "My Pokeflute-tune whistling has gotten better, don't you think?"

Mewtwo simply rolled their eyes and teleported away again. Generic pulled the hood of his cloak over his head and began walking towards the woods, once again alone.

You know, there is something distinctly hilarious about all the stories that have stuff for taking care of Zoroark readily available in Unova. A lot of them in wake of PLA and the Submas drama, which makes it even funnier.

Because, as someone who played (and still owns) both versions of Pokemon Black, I can say with complete confidence that those supplies are not a thing.

Having them implies that it's easy to find and catch Zorua and Zoroark. Which is completely untrue. They are as close to "secret rare" Pokemon as you can get in game.

Legends Arceus is the ONLY Pokemon game where you can catch those two in the wild. And without having to trigger a special in-game event first jus to make them appear!

Unless you have the right combination of stuff in your game from irl events at the time, you can't catch Zorua and Zoroark AT ALL in B/W.

And you have to speak with a specific Former-Plasma Grunt to get Zorua in B2/W2! They straight up can't be caught in the wild! (The only way to get Zoroark in those ones is through evolution.)

The only way to catch Zorua in B/W is to have the Mystery Gift Celebi from Heart Gold and Soul Silver transferred to your game, and bring it to a specific lobby in Castellia City to reveal that one of the kids there is actually a Zorua so you can catch them.

And to catch a Zoroark, you need to have one of the three special MG Shiny versions of Suicune, Entei, and Raiko for HG/SS in your game and bring them to Lost Lorn forest to make it appear. And that is the only time you can see one outside of N's battle team.

Admittedly, they programmed something special into the game so that you could transfer the Mystery Gift pokemon over without having the National 'Dex first, but still. That's a lot of circumstantial hoops you have to jump through before you can get either one!

So seeing people write stuff that's like "Oh! You can just get the proper food here!" Or "They have Zoroark-approved brushes/claw trimmers/claw caps here!" Or anything like that and I just start laughing.

Nah fam, they ain't gonna have those. Zorua/Zoroark are stupid rare and impossible to find. That stuff doesn't exist, and if it did it would custom-order only and have you paying through the nose for it.

Anni Bait - Johtrio Rerun

This month feels really aggressive about pre-anniversary bait, doesn’t it?  Three PokeFairs, two new general pool additions, the Gauntlet run with grid expansion for Ingo, one of the best supports.  But somehow that’s not even the big bait.  Somehow, they pulled the supreme bait.  Last year, they did this by rerunning two Master Fairs that had a lot of hype back in the day, but had kinda fallen off a bit with the Gauntlet meta.  What we’re seeing is another round of that; rerunning not two, but three Master Fairs who...well, two of them still reign as best in their particular show across the board.  Witness now the dread return...of Johtrio.

Sygna Suit Kris SS Kris has been like...one of the poster children of this blog since she arrived.  She is, without question, one of my favorite sync pairs.  That’s not necessarily an indication of quality, but listen.  She’s stupid good.

SS Kris was the first of the Rain setting supports, followed by NC Calem and SS Mina.  Both of them are not as good.  NC Calem has utility, but primarily runs into issues of getting his Buddy move to activate, and having mismatched buffing, putting special moves up into Rain instead of physical to differentiate himself.  Mina sucks, we’re not even going to talk about that.  Kris has up to three uses of Rain guaranteed, with MPR as one possibility.  Unlike Calem, she has tremendous bulk, and unlike Mina, once she hits 2/5, gauges are a non-issue over time.  Her trainer move, while under Rain, is also the SS Acerola comparison.  It’s not guaranteed like Acerola, which is unfortunate, but that’s powercreep.  But no one has the same special moves up next boosting potential that SS Kris does.  In longer matches, she packs Staggering and Team Stoic with Mini Potion All.  In Villa, her recovery of 1MP on all moves on her first sync makes her ideal, and access to Natural Remedy clears any potential hiccups completely.  In CS, she’s rapid-boosting special damage support with Rain.  Kris has every mode covered exceptionally well.  She is easily one of the best supports available.

As pre-anni bait, I do consider this very strong.  SS Kris is up there with SS Morty in terms of just how broadly good her utility is, and how hard she is to take down.  But I also recognize they’re running until mid-September, so wait to see what the full anniversary brings.  But man, if I were just starting this game?  I feel like anniversary has a bigger chance to be a disappointment than Kris.

Sygna Suit Lyra The only sync pair that has an argument for being better than SST Red.  Not even joking.

SS Lyra and Celebi has the most ridiculous disruptive kit ever designed.  100% flinch is really hard to stop, but moreover, this flinch being entirely a passive ability means she can queue another move before the foe re-selects an action.  Meaning she is a hard lockdown, and can pivot between skills on the fly.  Under her Terrain, attacks are free actions that also heal her.  She can even buff team crit, or a single target’s offenses.  She perfectly completes SS Morty.  She breaks virtually every single stage.  There’s not a single team that isn’t boosted by this level of support.  And this is before we factor in that she’s also hitting confuse, so if they get past flinch they can just hit themselves anyway; trap to wear them down regardless; and -2 debuff to a random stat per hit.

SS Lyra is really effective bait.  She’s incredibly strong, incredibly disruptive, and frankly just ridiculous overall.  It’s been really hard to match Lyra’s level of disruption.  But.  I also say this knowing that in spite of it, I’ve seen less use out of her than Kris.  Kris just blends so nicely into every team, while Lyra takes the place of what could be seen as more coherent options.  Lucian or Kukui’s defensive debuffs are assured and guaranteed to pump damage, while Lyra’s guaranteed flinch may stall a match, but you need to be well on top of your game to maintain that pressure, and with no consistent debuffing, it’s all she really provides.  I do recognize the power of Lyra, I really do.  But I also realize that sometimes the better thing isn’t as much fun.  I should use Lyra more...

Sygna Suit Ethan And then there’s this guy.

Yeah, Ethan’s not great.  Lugia has AoE Aeroblast with no penalty, and can supply Whirlpool AoE as well for Eusine if you’d like.  But he’s otherwise...odd.  His trainer move and ability to recharge 1MP every hit implies he’s meant to do a sort of hit and reload structure, where you use TM, then attack, then use TM again.  With +3 Special Moves Up Next on use, as well as Sure Crit, Ethan seems like he benefits here because of the +120% damage.  But.  Oddly enough?  Spamming Aeroblast is better damage.  Crit Strike and his Master passive effectively put each hit to +140%.  So two Aeroblast is 280%, TM then Aero is 260%.  It’s bizarre, but mathematics are nothing if not constant bullshit.  He is a striker with competent sync potential, thanks to built-in Brainpower, and his 3/5 grid can provide some really nice tools as well.  But Ethan...maintains the Flying curse of being really gimmicky and awkward.  Even when they’re good they’re weird.

Ethan fails to significantly stand out, in a way that presents him as effective bait.  Which is a little sad.  Lugia’s cool, they didn’t need to do this to him.  Like, Summer Liza, I feel, is a much better pair.  She’s faster setup, more consistent, and frankly, stronger.  Sure, no AoE DPS, and that’ll matter come Flying High Score.  But in every other scenario, she’s got him beat.  If she’s somehow on the Seasonal Select (she won’t be), take her over Ethan.

13. favorite antagonist team

This one is hard because I enjoy a lot of them for different reasons. Like I love that Team Rocket is just straight up the mob, they are definitely a legitimate Threat, but then like I also love Team Skull because they are TEAM SKULL.

But for a favorite...well, Team Aqua and Team Magma are tied. I enjoy the fact that they are both just so dumb??? They want to improve the world for Pokemon but they somehow never took an earth science course (even though Maxie ABSOLUTELY has) and thus don't know that expanding the land or the ocean has Serious Consequences for everyone. Like I enjoy that the ideas/goal aren't fundamentally evil, but they are so misguided that they fall to doing evil things to accomplish their goals. And they are just...so, so stupid, I love them.

BUT to avoid a tie, I'll say my fave is Team Magma, solely because, going by the ORAS redesigns, I love that these idiots wear sweaters in a volcano.

16. least favorite shiny pokemon

Honestly I have SO MANY. I love a lot of shinies but just as many are...so bad. But the reason why this one is hard isn't because of like, degree of ugliness of colors as much as it is that my least favorite shinies are the most disappointing ones. With that in mind, my least favorite shiny is Leafeon, because we could have had AUTUMN COLORED LEAFEON and instead we got Slightly Darker Leafeon.

I am gonna give a couple runner-ups. Kecleon, because Pokemon Mystery Dungeon had the Kecleon Brothers and I think the shiny should have been purple and green like the brother instead of slightly different yellow markings and blue stripe instead of red.

And my other runner-up, Dragonite, and this one IS because I dislike the colors because we go from lovely pink and gold to very questionable purple and green. And purple and green is a color combo I do enjoy together, but...not these shades.

21. favorite legendary/mythical pokemon

I am bullied, BULLIED I SAY. Now I AM going to cheat and list a legendary and mythical Pokemon because they are two separate categories.

So, legendary. This one is very hard because I love two legendary Pokemon very much, but I am going to go with Suicune. Aside from a whole lotta love for the Johto games fueling this choice, I also adore Suicune's design? The color palette is one I enjoy, I like the ribbons and the mane, I am heavily biased towards water types, and as a kid I definitely wanted to ride on it like a horse. It also plays an important role in the fourth Pokemon movie, which is one I remember very fondly.

The runner-up here, if anyone cares to know, is Articuno, the OG Kanto version. Love me an ice birb and that TAIL.

And Mythical is even harder because I have many emotions about many of them and I love so many. Manaphy especially has a place in my heart because of how desperately I wanted one and how IMPOSSIBLE it was for me until they were rereleased, I even tried the Pokemon Ranger thing and it didn't work lol.

But one of my two fave mythic Pokemon is Jirachi. I cant really explain why; is it the zero thoughts looking face? The eye on the stomach, because I love me some eyes where they don't belong? Or is it the wish-granting mechanic? Who knows, certainly not me.

Also I am calling this one a TIE because I ADORE Celebi. Teeny bug with the power of time, what will it do. Yes I know Celebi is Psychic/Grass but it is bug in my heart. I love the design and the colors, grass Pokemon being another weakness, but once again I also have built emotions based on other Pokemon media. The fourth Pokemon movie is Celebi-centric and amazing, ESPECIALLY THE HEARTBREAK OF THAT SCENE, but in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, she was also a very important character.

kai the typhlosion:

-he/him pronouns, leader of the team (don’t wanna say it was a very stupid name i was pretty young so uh gonna have to make up a new one eventually)

-looks a lot like a normal typhlosion but has a star-like mark on his right thigh (may or may not be inspired by that one promo manga) + wears the scarf bandana thingy like an actual scarf. tying bows are for nerds.

-tries to be all big and tough but is insecure af. after the whole “you caused the end of the world!” incident he’s very wary around strangers but he’s trying to get better. wants to build the biggest rescue team possible. likes to skip rocks in wiscash’s pond

shiro the totodile:

ok so dumb story i used to be a fan of voltron legendary defender and don’t know what to name the partner pokemon so i went with the first name that came to mind and it was shiro. i regret it every day.

-icy blue colored. it was a rare mutation or something. doesn’t want to evolve bc he thinks he looks cooler that way. wears his scarf thing fairly normally but chews on it a lot so it’s falling apart.

-of course has that undying partner loyalty. often times trusted with leading longer dungeon exploration. short but doesn’t want to admit it. ankle biter. might be slightly unhinged. rides on kai’s back when tired (his legs can only take him so far).

taren the luxray:

-he/they, leader of team hunters (another stupid team name i made when i first played since again pretty young, but i like to think that was their name due to mainly focusing on taking down outlaws)

-incredibly spiky even by luxray standards. kept that weird tuft of hair shinx/luxio have but it’s also pretty spiky. wears the scarf thing around his left front leg. he’s actually right handed.

-just fucking done. really tired all the time. sorta has this stereotypical war veteran vibe. seriously the protag in explorers has seen some shit and taren is no different. pretty cold but loves his partner to death.

-partners with edward

edward the leafeon:

-any pronouns but mainly uses they/them and she/her (but for simplicity’s sake i’m using they/them here)

-overgrown poofy bangs that cover their eyes. wears the scarf around the base of their tail.

-got obsessed with recording how the landscape around treasure town changes over time after the events of the main story. loves collecting rocks. tries to bring some down to earth positivity that taren doesn’t have. they both bicker often like they’re an old married couple.

axel the fraxure:

-he/him, leader of the armory. axel is not his real name. after learning he turned into an axew he made that up. his real name was avery.

-standardish appearance. i’m pretty sure pokemon can’t be shiny in pmd (not counting celebi from explorers) but he is!! right tusk is damaged. originally the tip just snapped off when falling right out of the goddamn sky but being curb stomped to near death by kyurem made him lose half of it. scarf is wrapped around the now broken tusk.

-was one of those people who thought the world sucked. had been a drifter in the human world, having cut off ties with his family. his partner hideki was the first friend he ever had. likes to battle and tries to live up to being the hero he’s made out to be, but has had one too many existential nightmares as of late especially after first returning to his old life.

Chapter: Touch down in Hoenn

Mini Chapter::::

Hoping off the airplane Emmet gathers his things Sprit on his head once more enjoying being carried around even though she can float , not like he minds anyways .

A quick fleeing figure makes him slow his pace as he watches the trouble maker that was on the plane get stopped by police and escorted off to a private room making him snicker and continue on through the gates and to the cab area, yawning .

Soon the car comes to a stop and Emmet hands the driver their cash and hopes out grabbing his things and heading to the hotel, once inside his room Sprit curiously floats around and Emmet releases his pokémon to get settled.

When he undressed and starts to enter the shower his last thoughts from before echo in his mind as his grip on the door tightens

Pokémon Fic: Oblivious

Summary: In which Ash is oblivious and doesn’t immediately understand why telling Goh he’s met Mewtwo and Mew before would make him angry.

The recent Mewtwo episode had me revisiting the one-hour sequel to Mewtwo Strikes Back, and in the English Dub Ash says something interesting towards the end; “This time we’ll both remember.” Which sort of implies that he once more remembers the events of Mewtwo Strikes Back, so I decided to play around with that.

When the sun had set, and the adrenaline from encountering Mewtwo had finally faded, Ash and Goh were getting ready for bed. “This was an amazing day,” said Goh happily.

“It sure was,” agreed Ash, climbing into his bunk. “It was great to see Mewtwo again, huh buddy?”

Goh froze, his pajama shirt hanging from his fingertips. “Wait. You’ve met Mewtwo before?”

“Oh--yeah. A long time ago.” Ash rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.

“Where? When? How?” demanded Goh. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Ash blinked. “It didn’t really come up, I guess. I met him for the first time in Kanto and then again in Johto.”

Goh’s mouth moved but no sound came out. After a minute of wide-eyed gaping, Goh cried in a strangled voice, “You met him twice?! You have to tell me everything!”

Ash laughed as Goh practically catapulted himself into his bunk. “Sure!”

For the better part of an hour, Ash told Goh all about the events that led him, Brock and Misty to New Island. Goh’s eyes were bright and eager as Ash regaled him with his tale, but the light promptly faded with shock when Ash mentioned that Mew had saved his life.

Ash didn’t notice the deep hurt that developed, too engrossed in his recollections.

“Then Mewtwo took the cloned Pokémon somewhere where they could be safe and where he could protect them,” finished Ash. “It’s been so long since I’ve last seen him. He really seems happy. I’m so glad.”

“So you met Mew as well,” said Goh tightly.

“Yeah.” Ash ran his hand down Pikachu’s back, oblivious to the growing storm brewing inside of Goh. “I haven’t seen Mew in forever.”

“You met Mew, you fought with it, you befriended it, and you didn’t tell me.”

“It just never came up,” said Ash, furrowing his brow.

“Never came up?” cried Goh. “I’m always talking about catching Mew! Not once did you ever tell me you met it too!”

“I didn’t think it was important,” said Ash defensively.

Goh tried to swallow back his hurt and it was bitter in his throat. “What about the second time?” he asked softly. “You said you met Mewtwo twice, even though it doesn’t seem like he remembers you.”

It was a childish attempt at a jab but Ash merely grinned. “That’s just Mewtwo being Mewtwo. I can’t tell you about the second time I met him. I promised him I’d never tell anyone. Sorry.”

Goh’s fingers clenched at Ash’s blanket.

He’s friends with a Legendary Pokémon. They have secrets.

The jealousy clawed at his stomach. “We’re keeping secrets from each other now, huh?”

“I’m sorry, Goh, but I can’t,” said Ash firmly.

“What else aren’t you telling me?” demanded Goh. “Do you want to catch Mew for yourself too?”

“Of course not,” said Ash in bafflement. “Goh, what’s wrong? Why are you upset?”

“It doesn’t matter,” snapped Goh. His eyes went hot with tears and he hastily turned his head. He promptly swung himself out of Ash’s bunk and charged out of the room.

“Wait!” called Ash. “Goh!”

He tried going after the boy but when he entered the hall Goh was gone. Pikachu crawled onto Ash’s shoulder and let out an exasperated sigh. “Pikapi.”

“What?” exclaimed Ash. “What did I do?”

“Let’s try and find him first. Maybe you’ll figure it out as we search.”

Utterly confused, concerned, and a bit annoyed, Ash trudged through the complex, seeking out his friend. He ventured out into Cerise Park, squinting through the darkness.

“Goh?” he called softly. “Goh? Are you out here?”

“What’s going on?”

Ash jumped when Gengar appeared in front of him. “Hey, Gengar. Have you seen Goh?”

“No. Why?”

“Ash made him mad,” replied Pikachu.

Lucario, Farfetch’d and Dragonite came up behind Gengar, rubbing the sleep from their eyes. “What did he do now?” asked Farfetch’d.

“I didn’t do anything,” protested Ash. “I just told Goh about the first time I met Mewtwo and Mew back in the Kanto region.”

His Pokémon stared at him silently, disbelief on their features. “And you can’t understand why that might have made Goh angry?” asked Lucario with a frown.

Ash opened his mouth, but faltered as he thought about it. “I guess...I guess I can see why he’s upset,” said Ash with a wince. “He’s so excited to just to meet Mew again. I had a whole adventure with it.”

“Which you didn’t tell him before now,” said Pikachu pointedly.

“Which I didn’t tell him before now,” echoed Ash. “Aw, man. I didn’t mean to keep it from him. I’ve just done so many things that it doesn’t really occur to me that other people might want to hear them.”

Gengar swivelled his head between his friends. “I’m sorry. Is no one going to react to the fact Ash has met Mewtwo and Mew?”

Dragonite smiled. “Does that surprise you?”

“No,” muttered Gengar. “How many other Legendaries and Mythicals have you met?”

Ash screwed up his face in thought. “Gee, a whole bunch. Lugia, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys--and so many others. Should I tell Goh about them, too?”

“Yes,” said Farfetch’d seriously. “And you should do it all at once.”

“No he shouldn’t,” chided Lucario. “Goh’s head will explode. Take it slow.”

“You are one special kid,” said Gengar with a fond shake of its head.

“I’m not special,” Ash mumbled. “I better go find him. Thanks, guys. Good night.”

He gave them each a hug before running back into the main building. He gave a startled shout as he nearly smacked into Goh. “Hey, there you are!”

“I’m sorry!” blurted Goh, his face red with embarrassment. “I shouldn’t have acted the way I did. I’m really glad you got to have that experience. I don’t mind that you have some secrets.”

“Are you sure?” asked Ash cautiously. “You were pretty upset.”

Goh crossed his arms over his chest. “It’s stupid,” he said quietly. “But I’m kinda jealous.”

“Jealous?”

“Yeah. Everywhere we go, you make friends with people and Pokémon alike. You hear Lugia’s voice, you talk so fluently with your Pokémon, and Mewtwo considers you his friend. He trusts you to keep his secrets.” Goh gave a soft laugh. “And in true Ash fashion, you don’t think it’s anything out of the ordinary.”

“It’s not,” said Ash in bemusement. “Having friends isn’t out of the ordinary.”

Goh’s lips quirked. “You’re a special Trainer, Ash.”

“I’m really not,” said Ash firmly. “I think every Trainer is special in their own way. You’re going to meet Mew again, Goh. And you’re going to have your own adventures with Legendary Pokémon and they’ll want to be your friend, too.”

“You really think so?” asked Goh hopefully.

“I know so,” said Ash confidently.

“Thanks. Again, I’m sorry--”

“It’s fine,” said Ash, waving away his apology. “I’m sorry too. I should have known you’d want to hear about my own experience with Mew. I didn’t mean to keep it from you.”

They started down the hall towards their room. Lightly bumping his shoulder against Ash’s, Goh joked, “Any other stories you want to share about meeting rare Pokémon?”

Ash brightened. “Oh yeah, lots! I met Lugia once before too, along with Zapdos and Moltres and--”

There was a thump as Goh collided with the floor in a dead faint. As Ash frantically tried to revive him, Pikachu shook his head. “You were supposed to take it slow!”

Okay, but on the topic of odd story lines for Mahidevran...what did you make of her spending when head of the harem? I could get it to a certain extent because, of course, after being so overlooked she'd want to shower both her and her son in what was once theirs, but it was also a trait that had just been shown before and seemed super confusing as a result.

I think it made both narrative and thematic sense for the state Mahidevran was in and for the character arc she had to undergo.

It's kinda ironic, because if this were two and a half years ago, I would've ranted for the exact same thing - this arc had interesting stuff that either never had the chance to come up before, either came earlier just in very small doses, like Mahidevran's spending, Gülfem all of the sudden standing on her feet and starting to demand the respect she deserves and Hürrem being a harder version of her over the top self in S03 and placing in action such luxuriously well thought out, even contradictory (in terms of Valide) schemes that she never had before and didn't ever again since then; it looks as if these things were created or upped to eleven, specifically for this portion of the series, where they could just fill their purpose and never come back again. I had a problem with this, because what came out of it seemed to only be the hardening of characters just for the sake of convenience and the plot taking a far more bizarre and ruthless turn than everything the show had ever put out by this point, just for an arc, no less.

However, upon analyzing and rewatching, I came to appreciate everything this arc did, honestly, writing-wise it's such a delight. I feel this is the batch of episodes where the show took most risks in terms of the status quo, did interesting decisions, to say the least, and while doing so, it served the purpose of both lending a conflict for the season finale to fit its dramatic twisty soap opera needs, and presenting coherence for the theme and character development of the season - every plot thread that was built up finally paid off and Mahidevran ruling the harem, together with Gülfem, was shown as the last straw of the traditions Hürrem had to break or in this case, fight with, throughout the season, a chance was presented for her to get rid of all her enemies with their own failings and clear her way of the disadvantagous traditions for one last time. (as presented by her last encounter with Valide, which thematically and conveniently forgot everything that happened between them post-E55 and rather focused on being the last straw for Valide, symbolically burning the bridges between Hürrem and the rules Valide was a collective character for, forever.)

Mahidevran spending and wasting so much money on all these material and esthetic expenses makes sense, precisely because of the narrative purpose of Mahidevran ruling the harem - it was supposed to be the peak of that long and then ever going S02B arc of her reveling in power, the power that her status as a mother of the grown Mustafa, gives her. When she got exactly what she wanted, even the smallest, inevitable (because of the weird laws in-show, of course) grasp, the very thing she craved ever since she went back from Edirne and the very thing she capitalized on in episode 55 and then claimed as a mistake three episodes later, she took it for granted, as an obvious, easy win. She began to truly act as the Valide of the Palace, but not with the responsibility of it, rather with the wrong power that comes from it. She thought she was unstoppable, that she could do whatever she wanted and noone would stop her, because she rules over them now and if someone tries, so what, she has Ibrahim to count on! And Mahidevran wanted to demonstrate this (temporary) superiority aesthetic-wise, as well, putting herself (and Mustafa) in center stage, buying him so many kaftans for the sanjack; making the whole harem and castle in her image, for she bought golden plates and wanted to build her own hammam (as far as I recall?); perhaps wanting to be noticed for the changes she had made, because it is her time now and she could freely drown in her own desire for revenge and apply her own prejudices, regardless. (with her bying many dresses for the concubines in the harem that weren't in any way associated with Hürrem.)

[And while this is more of a theory of mine than it is an interpretation, I think that all the fancy dresses and crowns she put on during this period, were also quite a part of this spending and as such, even though it wasn't shown as explicitly before, it represents even more the very critical peak of her own descent into the ego-inflated abyss. She has always cared about her appearance, with the many scenes of her looking herself in the mirror and putting jewelry on, claiming to Mustafa that Topkapı is encrusted in diamonds in E01 etc. and these episodes upped it to eleven and put it to its logical extreme, Mahidevran is now above them all, so she might as well show it with all the dresses and crowns. (we even have Hürrem mocking her for it once in a scene in the hammam during the Isabella arc, then in E62 for why she cares so much when she sleeps alone in her bed and that one, despite of the outdated implication since she no longer loves SS, really hits home how pettily low Mahidevran has sunk.) ]

We should also keep in mind that her entire S02B arc was a series of failures. And the ruling of the harem, as the last stop, should show her fail terribly and hard, and the writers picked the spending to do the job. On one hand, I get why it seems odd to you, as well because E55 made her fall much bigger and scarier, there she was absolutely terrifying, with all the things she could and would do, they mattered much more. And the whole ruling the harem fiasco and the spending only look like a contrast, as a result, because.. she's spending the country's money, yes, but she's spending it due to her wounded pride and out of sheer pettiness, to toot her own horn, to make it clear to everyone out there, but especially to Hürrem, that she's won and they've lost. It all looks like more as a an outward addition of what E55 presented us, more of an downgrade than an upgrade. Instead of making her do something even more dangerous on a massive scale, we have her ego dominate everything on such a trivial way where she can't do as much damage. But on the other hand, the spending is a result of all of Mahidevran's character flaws empowering themselves in this arc, that render her to do stupid or unnecessary ruthless things and carelessly spend all this money, that she let herself be deceived by Iskender Celebi and Hürrem take the advantage.

It was, in a way, very psychological, to fulfill all of her missing needs and probably let her feel worth something. And it truly was presented as her biggest failing that, even if it wasn't as serious and crucial as E55 and it certainly was unexpected and bizarre, since it escalated very quickly, it was a logical last step and in general, I'm satisfied.

I can’t sleep so I’m just thinkin’ about my range of Pokémon romantic F/Os. This series has meant so much to me for so long, and I know F/Os from that source make up a decent portion of my list. I’d feel more embarrassed about it if I didn’t make it abundantly clear that Pokémon is one of the most pervasive influences in my life from an exceedingly young age.

I just. I dunno. I find my collection of Pokémon series F/Os so interesting.

I’m just gonna ramble a bit.

I’m going to talk in Generational order, because my 1am brain couldn’t decipher a more cohesive timeline if it tried.

Giovanni is a funny one. As a kid, his character in the show intimidated me a little. But I really loved Team Rocket on some level. They were my first Pokémon villain organization, and with the Gen III games having Aqua and Magma, I decided pretty early that Team Rocket was my team. I had a stint in Magma since when I was young, I thought I’d specialize in Fire types, but eh it didn’t stick. No team really stuck nearly as much until Team Skull! So I had a lot of time for my intimidation from Giovanni to evolve into a fearful respect, to a mild devotion… by the time I played Let’s Go! and Ultra Moon, I was more than a little excited to see him in game. As in, I would quietly cheer when he appeared on my screen, in some weird giddy manner. It was only a matter of time before I realized I was crushing hard.

Steven Stone (he has a full name so more often than not I use it when referring to him) probably didn’t make the biggest impact on me in the original Gen III games? Hoenn was my favorite region for a while (in part due to pre- “Hoenn confirmed” hype), but he didn’t have a huge role in Ruby/Sapphire. Maybe I noticed him first in Emerald? I wish I could remember my real first inkling of crush on him, because I just remember when I played Omega Ruby… I was already obsessed with him. He showed up for the first time in game and I squealed. I spent the whole game seeking him out and already making romantic passes at him in my around-19-year-old head.

I am counting Grovyle for this, but it bears repeating that my S/I for the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games is a Pokémon too. Those Mystery Dungeon games enamored me as a teen! I got to BE! A POKEMON!! So I probably got Explorers of Time/Darkness for DS not long after it released in 2008. I was so excited to have Gen IV Pokémon to be and battle and recruit, ugh, this game meant so much to me. I will always remember being part of Wigglytuff’s Guild super fondly. And like, as I am super susceptible to mental role play, putting myself in my characters shoes (or lil toe beans I guess) has always been second nature for me. So a dashing Grovyle just jumped into my silly life and was the most honorable and misunderstood character and I am not even joking when I say I fell for him in my first playthrough. And I’ve played through it a lot. I was always jealous of Celebi. I hate every Dusknoir I see to this day. *chefs kiss* Good game.

Gen V is “oops all F/Os” Gen, where to even start..

Just kidding, N is the obvious choice to start for me. He was love at first sight. He just, ugh, he cares about Pokémon SO MUCH. I literally don’t know how to even expand on this. He literally rode the Ferris Wheel with the player character in the game, and I WASNT supposed to interpret that as a date? Wack. It was a date. I love him so damn much. Next question

Elesa comes next because I’ve always thought she was stunning. I mean, duh I guess, she’s canonically a model. Also, Electric types are in my top 3, behind Fairy and somewhat tied with Fire, so she was a woman after my own heart. Her Emolga kinda wrecked my team and I respect that. Also, she loves puns. So again. Woman after my own heart. The only reason she’s still listed as Crush and not as Dating is because she intimidates me. She’s out of my league and I worry she’d only see me as a friend. Well, not “only”, her and Skyla are bffs and that also looks fun. I just. Can’t imagine her romantically being interested in me sometimes. Heh.

Grimsley was a crush that came on yeeeaaaars after his Gen, and it hit me like a freight train. I swear, he made very little impression on me in B/W, because I was young and I was just excited to possibly see N again as champion. I was a little shit, okay. I also never played B2/W2 all the way through, which is a huge stain on my Pokémon record. Anyways. When he showed up in Sun/Moon, I gasped. I was like, that’s a familiar face. Why is he hot now? (The answer is we was always hot, and I just had a few years to grow between games). But like, I kind of tamped it back down? I think I legit tried to tell myself around Sun/Moon era that I can’t keep finding Pokémon characters hot, because I was drooling over another one in Moon. Anywho. Grimsley kept popping up as fanart on my Tumblr dash for a while and by the time I pulled him in Pokémon Masters, I slipped into love. Whoops.

Professor Sycamore, probably not my proudest moment of fandom. He was another one I liked from the very introduction. I made fun of him in equal measure, but I affectionately referred to him as “Professor Hotdad” for an embarrassingly long amount of time. He’s not even the oldest of my Pokémon F/Os. One of my other Pokémon F/Os is canonically a father. But nope. Sycamore was Hotdad. That all said, he did make me smile like a crush-stricken schoolgirl when he talked in game so it wasn’t all just memey objectification. I do love him dearly.

Gen VII! Alola! Guzma! Oh man, like I’d stated earlier, Team Skull really nestled it’s way close to my heart the way no team had since Team Rocket. It wasn’t all because of Guzma, I really did like the group of ragtag misfits banding together and creating a family. Guzma was icing on the cake. Oh boy, he made my heart do funny little flips even when he was threatening me in game. I loved his design, I loved his character, the way he talked, I just. Ugh, I was down bad for ya boy in Moon and Ultra Moon. He’s actually the inspiration behind my main blog url: its-ya-boi-remington. The “Y’all are stupid!” line and face lives in my head rent free at all times. Guzma protection squad.

Leon was, believe it or not, my actual first Gen VIII crush. I saw that fashion disaster and felt a warm comfort from him. It didn’t help that I mentally read every character in Galar with some UK/British Isles accent, that sweetened the deal. I was actually gushing to a couple then-friends about Leon while we all played Sword/Shield together and they kind of mocked me about it. They chided me that Leon “doesn’t bat for my team” and said either of them would have a better chance with him if he were real. So I was a little downtrodden about Leon after that for quite a while. It wasn’t until a couple months ago when suddenly it hit me that A- He’s literally fictional and my version of him can like me regardless of what “team he bats for” and B- I’m nonbinary? So rules get thrown out the window, anyone who likes me is both a miracle and some kind of gay whatever way you spin it. So I let myself warm back up to him, though I’m still a little skittish from before.

Piers, I guess, as awful as it sounds, was initially a crush rebound. Like, don’t get me wrong, I’d have been attracted either way. He’s a musician, a SINGER no less, and has that emo/punk vibe. But he’s also gentle and kind. Swoon. But it helped that I had my crush-feelers out full-force for a cutie in game to obsess over since I was still butthurt about my “friends” killing my crush on Leon. Obsess I did, and continue to do. I could probably snap this man over my knee like firewood he’s so lanky, idk why I put that in here but it’s staying. Piers is the one I most imagine jamming out with on a regular basis, and it makes performing for no one a bit more fun 🥰

I’m finally getting tired, I feel like I’ve been typing this for an hour. I probably have been. Ah geez now I gotta tag all these F/Os lmao. Thanks for letting me ramble.

It’s both very nostalgic for me (my sister used lot let me do missions on her copy of time) while also a game that stands up really well, story wise, as I didn’t really know the story before I actually played it last year. 3. Fave partner character? Cinders!!! My Darkness partner!!! I love explores partner, they’re so sweet and they have a great arc!!

4. What did you name your characters?

Ok so in rt my hero is Emmy (bc people irl call me Em & she’s my most self insert character) and partner is Iggy, which I think was short for incenderary device????? Or ignition or something??? I was struggling for names and she’s a torchic so I looked up fire words I think.

My Explorers hero is Luca and my partner is Cinders. however! In the game, Luca is actually named Em bc again, that’s my name, and I hadn’t realised how attached I’d get to this character haha. After a bit I realised I wanted her to be a seperate character, so the name came from a Pokemon rp oc who I never really did anything with haha. As for cinders, he’s a chimchar so again I just looked up fire terms

Cue and Dee are my gates team, and honestly idk where these came from?? I think??? It was because ‘cue’ kind of sounds like axew and Dee sounds like it could rhyme with snivy kind of??? Also maybe bc of deceit from sanders sides? Idk

My super team is Syvia and Sticks. For syvia, I went to fantasy named generator, liked the name Sylvia, and misspelt it and didn’t realise until I’d beat the game. For sticks, I kind of liked the idea of them having a more nicknamey name, and they’re a turtwig sooo.... also it’s a cute name lmao

5. What’s a Pokemon you wish you could play as? CHEWTLE!!!! I think a chewtle hero would be very fun this i why I want a gen 8 game. Of the Pokemon already in a md game though I want Snover bc I fucking love Snover.

6. How do you interpret gengar and Gardevoirs post game relationship? 😳I haven’t actually played much of rts postgame so I haven’t encountered gengars backstory I’m a fake fan I know

7. How do you interpret the future trios relationship? Hmm I think they could definitely get together? More interesting to me is thinking that Dusknoir used to travel with grovyle hero and Celebi before they realised what fixing the future would do, so the post game future trio dynamic is awkward bc it’s like “wellll we were friends but you tried to kill me but then you didn’t so???? Are we friends again??” Haha

8. If you’re an artist how do you draw grovyle and Dusknoir?

As a human apparently I only draw grovyle as a cool anime man looking to the side

As a Pokemon I like to make fun of him for being short

I tend to draw Dusknoir pretty menecingly/looking a bit like a Wild West man which I think is a wild take but whatever

9. Who do you ship? I’m a big fan of chatot/Wigglytuff, obviously. It’s my favourite haha no moment will ever beat “my invaluable partner”. I also ship team charm as a polycule, and I guess also future trio? Idk. Ram paradise and Minchino is pretty obvious. Emolga and Dunsparce I lowkey ship. Idk if I ship emolga and virision bc a. Idk how old they’re meant to be??? And I feel like virision is older but idk. B. I think verision can be aroace as a treat for me :] my gates team are the only ones I’d really consider shipping I think, and I don’t think I have any super ships haha

10. Opinion on nuzleaf’s character? Did you find the twist surprising? Ok so I spoilt quite a lot of supers story for myself before I played it so I knew about Nuzleaf going in so, no I wasn’t surprised really. I think Nuzleaf is funny to make fun of, and he’s definitely a character that it’s funny to be like “that stupid bitch” but like attaching a 💖 to the statement you know? I don’t love??? Him? He wasn’t the most interesting Pmd character ever to me and I feel like the possession thing was a bit of a cop out- if they’d stick with him legit being manipulated but acting of his own free will I would have liked that. Idk he’s pretty fun i think

Lets start off with the best gecko to ever be.

- Staraptor is the obvious one since he already ‘has’ one that sticks around, Acting as his main means of air transport.

- Butterfree, this is due to gecko’s love of status affects! (Stun, sleep, etc), There’s practically no better pokemon for this task then a butterfree. They aren’t strong in the physical means but given the opportunity to stun is all they need.

- Jolteon for the fact that Gecko is fact, Gecko likes to be able to get away quickly from things, So it only makes sense he has an equally fast companion in the form of Jolteon. Able to give support in terrain where staraptor is unable.

- Mantine, This is because of Grovyle being a ranger, He’s bound to need ocean support. Something to cross the seas with and it’s been shown multiple times that rangers commonly enlist the help of mantine due to their high speeds and generally calm temperaments.

- Arcanine, I have little explanation for this one, It’s a giant puppy dog. Grovyle needs to have a giant fire puppy okay, This is fact.

- And finally Zekrom or Karma!, always ready to step in and help protect her dad, it’s only right she’s a official/unofficial member of the team.

To move onto Kharon. I can’t see him being an active participant in battles but i see him less reserved about keeping or owning pokemon then Grovyle is, Even if only as a just in case, I can even see Bede and clover both urging Kharon to do so. As it gives the guy something to do, Even if he’s eh about the whole thing.

- Chandelure, They go from acting as a light source to eventually being a strong, Useful pokemon for Kharon to keep around.

- Umbreon, A powerful dark type and a defense wall, It’s only right kharon would own a pokemon like this. With glowing rings to illuminate to dark spaces and a quiet disposition, this pokemon won’t actively bother him.

- Sableye, Specifically in some cases even mega sableye, To keep with the mega evolution that seems to hold true in the family. I could see kharon keeping at least one of the sableye and harnessing the power of mega evolution along with it.

- Absol, This pokemon surprisingly isn’t kept for battling, No. They are a trained therapy pokemon, Knowing a list of commands of helpful household commands (For days kharon has episodes), A bred moveset for pain relief (Days kharon normally forces himself to get up). They also have the added addition of being able to alert kharon of disasters (Mainly caused by grovyle) before hand so he’s not dragged into something stupid.

- And Grovyle, Clover specifically, Considering these two seeming co-dependence on one another in ways not seen with other people. It’s only natural she’d trust kharon to keep her pokeball to as her ‘trainer’, Just as how grovyle has karma)

And now celebi!! the best fae, Due to celebi being probably the only one not truly ‘human’ out of the pair and being able to switch between forms, I like to imagine she doesn’t have a team. But she DOES have a bunch of pokemon who are willing to assist her at any interval due to her fae blood and general calming nature.

And finally, For karma because she’s literally a perfect goblin, She seems the most likely to have a team of pokemon despite being one herself because of bede’s influence. She considers the pokemon in her team more companions then pets and has attracted mainly electric types due to her own typing.

- The only two with notable mention is first Zebstrika, Becoming Karma’s main mode of transportation if she’s not going to fly, Because if you can’t see karma in human form throwing herself over this electric horses back and riding them at high speeds then i don’t know what to say-

- the other one is Elektross, they were her ‘starter’, Given to her by bede as but a tiny little Tynamo who quickly gained strength under Karma’s care. Seen now as the formidable and powerful pokemon they are.
