Anyways drawing Spring Unsprung Briar gave me a wild amount of creative energy so here's my pitch for a Spring Unsprung Darling costume

Some details just for fun under the cut:

•Since Lizzie is the designer of the original SU outfits, that's also the case here. Lizzie is perceptive enough of Cerise and her style to very specifically fit her needs without even knowing what those needs are (heavy hood, long hair, big jacket, all very good for keeping covered, no?). The same would happen with Darling. Lizzie might pick up on her fascination with Wonderland, the jewelry fashioned like chainmail or bracers, and decide to incorporate it into her design. I don't know if Lizzie even realizes how perceptive she is, she just has an eye for what brings out someone's real personality.

•In terms of actual design, my main inspiration was chess! I let go of the literal shape pretty fast, but I really liked the idea of her looking like a fancy chess piece as a nod to her wonderland shenanigans. Cerise, Kitty, Lizzie, and Cedar all have black and white recurring patterns with 1-3 main colors, so I tried to mimic that here. I mostly just used the color scheme from my ref sheet I did a hot minute ago

•The hair flowers and colorful makeup were non-negotiable of course. I did want to make the flowers have some kind of relevance, but in the end I just gave up and made 'em generic yellow flowers. Any flower symbolism nerds who want to throw their hat in the ring be my guest!!

•I basically just tried to orient the whole thing around asymmetry and reflection, and I think that worked really well in this case, I think it really makes her pop

•She isn't wearing her typical Charming crest, but the symbol is spread out in a couple of pieces. Heart gem at the center of the neck like normal, and the wing is made into one of those ear cuff things

•The background was just kind of a whim, but there is a reason for it. I decided a while ago that the Charming family animal is a lion, so any heraldry or heirloom or anything like that is probably gonna have that winged heart and/or lion imagery on it. If Daring is the peak of the Charmings, then Daring is a lion. Similarly, Darling is a borzoi. It's just different enough to communicate that she's the black sheep of the family, but has enough similar traits to make it clear that she's not in opposition with them. Plus I think borzois are whimsical as hell with the right lighting and I thought it would look neat

•You can see it right in the corner of one of her eyes, I was playing with maybe giving her partial heterochromia? I think I'm gonna stick with just brown eyes but I'm keeping the concept tucked away in the back of my brain for another character

so i was talking to my girlfriend about this rarepair ive had in the back of my head that i feel like the eah yuri nation should consider

when cerise is having her lesbian awakening (theres no way that girl likes men cmon now) she goes to cupid for her help. and cupid tries to help thinking she wants to find a boy but doesnt know what, but the more time she spends with cerise she realizes that she aint looking for a boy. shes looking for a girl and she doesnt even know it

cerise will be spending time with cupid a lot, meaning that she will start to love her loving personality how she puts everyone else first how trustworthy and understanding she is 5- at some point cupid finds out about cerises secret but decides not to say anything. its not her place to say, if cerise feels comfortable shell tell her. when cerise finally does tell her cupid will be like really accepting which will throw off cerise. like “wait, this isnt weird to you?” “cerise, ive known this whole time” “wha- wait why didnt you say anything why didnt you expose my secret why.. why????” “because that sort of secret doesnt belong to me, its your story to tell.” which makes cerise fall even harder

Thank you so much, that’s so sweet omg that means so much to me🥺💞💓 That’s such a hard question because I like a lot of their designs for different reasons, of course some of them I’m not a fan of but I feel like I can always find something I really admire!

I absolutely love Cerise’s design! I can’t get over her white streak of hair and the fact that she’s secretly the daughter of the big bad wolf is such a fun concept, it gives her hood multiple purposes which I love! Not only does she wear it to honor her destiny and mother, but to hide her identity. Though with all the growling she does I don’t know how she’s hidden it anyway. And don’t get me started on the patterning on her hood and stockings! And the BANGS😭💞

Lilly Bo Peep is also a favorite of mine and honestly I wish she had had a bigger part, I would’ve loved to know more about her. There are so many cool backgrounders it’s insane, the dedication is so admirable😔💓 The bangs over one eye, the multi length and multi colored hair, the pigtails, the cute little apron outfit and bonnet? Obsessed!!

Of course I have to put Duchess here, are y’all really shocked? I do have a few complaints about her outfit but I’m obsessed with her hair and hairpin. The pearls? The feathers? Love. I wish they hadn’t done a weird pattern on her skirt but that was definitely popular at the time of its creation, weird patterns were kind of everywhere. I love her pointe shoe heel things, they’re so cute and props to her for being that devoted LOL

There are so many other characters who have little parts of them I love, and some of them have beautiful special episode outfits which have my heart! I almost said Darling but I kind of hate her weird pink gem decor on her chest. I know it’s a throw back to what knights typically wore but I think it could’ve been illustrated better! She’s definitely a runner up tho💞

Do you have any headcanons about the Hood-Badwolf family?

this will get long so

the physical affection between Red and Badwolf is limited even in private and/or in front of their own daughters, as they are incredibly paranoid about getting caught, and they only truly relax when they're alone in their bedroom with the door locked and the curtains drawn (but then they cuddle. like. a lot.) but there's always a part of them that feels like they're doing something wrong

idk what canon says about this, but Ramona and Cerise are definitely (fraternal) twins, and Ramona's technically a few hours older, but legally Cerise is several days older because Badwolf waited to register "his" daughter to avoid suspicion

they selected which kid was going to who based off resemblance, which as newborns basically meant eye color (Ramona has golden brown similar to her father, and Cerise has blue like her mother, albeit with a golden ring around the pupil)

the parent who didn't get custody of a specific child was the one to choose that child's name

Granny (Red's grandmother) was the only person "in the know" and helped deliver her great-grandkids, but has since passed away

Red's mother (future Granny) started the rumor that the Huntsman was Cerise's father (because of how secretive her daughter was being, she assumed that the actual truth involved an irresponsible Charming)

the burgundy in Ramona's hair is dyed as to distract from its similarity to Cerise's

a headcanon of mine is that all animal shifters have animal ears in their human form (like Bunny), and so both sisters have a wolf form

until Raven rebelled, the sisters were resigned to their destiny and Ramona always felt incredibly guilty for her part in the story, but she never showed it, instead pushing Red and Cerise away

in contrast, Cerise's relationship with her father was always a close one, and they'd go running together in wolf form in the most deserted parts of the Dark Forest

Ramona acted out a lot during her first semester at Ever After High due to the pressure of Legacy Day even if hers was a year away, and was sent to Fairytale Reform School for the rest of her first year

although Ramona was more free to be herself, she actually felt suffocated by her wolf identity and was envious of her sister for having that part of her as a secret and not something others judged her for

Ramona is pan, Cerise is demi, and Red and Badwolf are bi4bi

Ramona gets irrationally angry at the rebels at first because she feels like her years of struggling with accepting her destiny were meaningless, and that her distance from her mother and sister was her fault for being gullible

after legacy is abolished they definitely "come out" to the public as a family

canon's design is boring, I think Badwolf dresses like an alternative slut(affectionate) especially when Red's going to see him (ripped jeans, sheer shirts, crop tops, v-necks, fishnets, lots of jewelry, so many piercings) in spite of the people who judge him for it (as a buff dude with a "manly" destiny people expect him to be more rugged and wild), but he does despise skirts and make up for sensory reasons

they all have severe ADHD

Badwolf secretly finds his job as a General Villainy teacher very amusing, as he gets to witness a lot of teenage dramatics and amateur sabotage (he definitely gossips about it with his wife)

Red's main income is actually from a remote high tech job, but she still runs a bakery because she enjoys it

the Mad Hatter is a family friend and visits a lot (this is your reminder that canonically Red and Badwolf were married in Wonderland by either the White Rabbit or the Mad Hatter, I don't remember which, but they were both definitely at the wedding, and the couple lived there for a period of time before feeling the need to return to their Setting)

FEA character mini-analyses: black eagles as rebels

Today I feel like explaining why I cast characters the way I did in FEA (my ongoing 3H/EAH crossover fic)! If all goes well this'll be a four-part series--one each for the three houses and one last post for the house lords + Rhea. (I'm sorry Ashen Wolves fans... I'll talk about Yuri in the last post, but I don't think there's much I can say for the rest of his house.)

Now without further ado, let us begin!

Hubert as Faybelle Thorn: let's raise a cheer for everyone's favorite dark fairy!! (please don't this is cursed enough. haha get it? cursed, because he's--) As we all know the most important thing about Hubert von Vestra is his impeccable sense of style, and Faybelle's aesthetic is the only one that comes close. The only major difference between these two characters is that Faybelle is spiteful, while Hubert is simply ruthless. And I think it's enough to make him a Rebel, as the Dark Fairy's actions are nothing but petty. With his father's role being stolen by the Evil Queen, I thought this would add an interesting dimension to his loyalty to Edelgard (whereas Faybelle hates Raven for it). Also, Faybelle's pet is canonically a pomeranian puppy named Spindle, and I wanted to give Hubie a pomeranian puppy named Spindle.

Ferdinand as C.A. Cupid: I needed something to replace nobility as the virtue around which he centers his life, so naturally I decided on the most entertaining alternative--love. In this AU, destiny-bound "true love" serves as a good enough parallel to the corruption of Fódlan nobility. So while he may have some disagreements with Edelgard, he can't argue with her understanding of destiny. Giving him big ol' wings makes him even more annoying to her, which is exactly what I want. ... Okay, yes, I did make him Cupid just because it was the only way I could include "Ferdinand von Aegir Cupid" in this AU.

Bernadetta as Cerise Hood: yes, it does hurt me that Bernadetta's color palette clashes horribly with the RRH aesthetic, but what can a girl do they're the perfect match! Of course Bernie would be shy and reclusive if her father was the freaking Big Bad Wolf. And who wouldn't be anxious having to hide a secret like that in the woods, constantly surrounded by the vicious Wolf people? Of course I couldn't make her as extremely nervous as she was in 3H, but uh. I don't think anyone minds. (We are kicking Count Varley out of the picture by the way please forget he ever existed.)

Petra as Cedar Wood: the only princess besides Edelgard in 3H may be a mere commoner in this retelling, but real queens need no crowns. Cedar's desire to understand humans is the closest in-universe to Petra's desire to understand Fódlan (even if they're for different reasons). Furthermore, I find Petra's honesty works well with Cedar's curse--they're both so endearing for it.

Dorothea as Meeshell Mermaid: we shall forever mourn the lost potential of Meeshell, but Dorothea is a whole other story. Voice of an angel, check. Renowned beauty, check. Most importantly, her longing to be truly seen and loved, check. Let's not forget the Little Mermaid was treated as little more than a pretty plaything in the prince's court, never truly seen by the man she loved. Canon Dorothea fears exactly that. Her being a Rebel is just too perfect.

Linhardt as Briar Beauty: I don't think I need to explain myself here? But... the tricky part about him is that Linhardt would never in a million years be unsatisfied with his destiny. I had to lure him to the dark side with lots of enticing research opportunities on the true nature of destiny-bound curses and succession laws, because of what happened with his mom's story (Evil Queen stealing Dark Fairy's role and all). Anyway, I love imagining him with green crownglasses and the fact that his personality is the polar opposite of Briar's will never not be hilarious.

Caspar as... the son of the White Queen??: yeah so the White Queen doesn't have a kid in EAH; I just couldn't think of anything more suiting for Caspar, both in personality and appearance (a bonus, in my book!). Now technically most of the Wonderlandians are Golden Deer, but like... who cares. Also, it's adorable to picture Caspar having normal conversations with his mom, who is the princesses' advisor, and they're quite literally just shouting at each other. Even if they're on opposite sides of the destiny conflict, I feel like they'd have the sweetest relationship.

And that, my folksies, is that.

Confession: before starting this fic, the Black Eagles were my least favorite house. I didn't understand them at all, but now I am so glad I do. They got that Rebel heart, lads.

A little add on to this

Short summary, I believe that if you want to diversify Ever After High, instead of changing characters races you need new characters based on new stories from all around the world. EAH has a chance to truly celebrate culture.

But… what if I had no choice but to change characters ethnicity because Corporate (Mattel) believes minorities are nothing but sheep that when they see keys dangled in front of them they clap like performance seals (that’s my opinion on the matter, and that’s the last I have to say about it)

So what would I do.

Well, if you remember correctly, in my idea of a EAH reboot was also a soft reboot, a continuation in an alternate timeline.

Long story short. Duchess, scared out of her mind about her destiny, uses a strange book/Power that resets the 4 years of Ever After High over and over again. It is just unknown how many times she reset everything.

This idea was basically to allow us to not ignore anything that came before the resets but also allow us to revisit plot lines and even expand more if needed.

So what does that mean for the characters? Well in short, the resets aren’t perfect. At first it was little things like eye color or hair color, but after a little bit of time more things started to change and evolve like one’s appearance.

This continues the meta take of EAH going to into the modern era of adaptations.

For a story element, this leads into more existential dread.

Let’s use Cerise for a moment. Let’s say in this version, Cerise is Pakistani (I have seen fanart of a Pakistani Red Riding hood that I liked)

In this hypothetical Cerise comes across a full body mirror, but in it is not a reflection that she knows. But then it dawned on her. This is her reflection. She is seeing herself from a past life. The original her.

Becoming entranced, she finds herself entranced by her own self. As she touches finger tips to the surface it dawns on her. She is different now. But how so?

At first glance it seems like it was just skin dee. But the question begins to fester. “What else is different?” What else is different from the Cerise now and the Cerise then? How much has she changed in this timeline?

Then that terrible question is brought up as she is brought to her knees. After so many changes, at what point does Cerise stop being Cerise? And if she isn’t Cerise, then who is she?

She cries for she doesn’t know the answer.

Get the urge to make Vash Stampede's jacket as a serious actual jacket because I'm a slut for correctly used cosplay fabrics when I see it bUT also putting a whole lotta money into it for no reason + use is kinda stupid i guess

It has this really interesting color, red obviously but leaning on cerise? It'd be hard to find the perfect match. With a large hood that likely need some sort of stiffening to make sure you get that obvious collar even when open. I'm not entirely sure what fabric I would think it is but I'm leaning on softshell. The teal insides are ✨

Also, fabric patches, I would probably honestly go for leather anyway, would look fancier. That plate on the hood is interesting, it seems to be metal. The actual hardest part would be that zipper though, it's huge. You might have to create an ornamental one since it's not really realistic.

I'm an idiot so I would probably want that arm shield thing too. Maybe not the piece that stands up, looks like it might get uncomfortable, the other parts I wonder if you couldn't reimagine as maybe pleather/fabric pieces, that way it wouldn't be hindering function.... You could switch over the red fabric to a greyish teal halfways down the bicep and hide the seam with a pleather piece on top. The parts that light up probably have to be exchanged for paint though. Unless you make a hidden pocket/zipper under the pleather, putting a battery driven LED light there, but I don't think that would be comfy to walk around in for actual use. For cosplay it'd look cool though.

Hey, I just noticed. Between Dappling (Apple & Darling from Ever After High) and WhiteRose (Ruby & Weiss from RWBY) there is a similar color palette.

True... If there was at least some romantic moment between Cerise (She is the daughter of Little Red Riding Hood, Ruby has a reference to her) and Apple (The daughter of Snow White, Weiss is also her reference) there would be at least some romantic moment, then maybe they would have a lot in common with the WhiteRose.

And so, the slightest similarity between Apple&Darling and Ruby&Weiss. I just compared them a little, Such a dilemma turned out.

By the way, here are the screenshots. Where one girl looks at another girl with a clearly non-heterosexual look. :)

The eah world doesn't perfectly mirror our world, and the Ukraine might be small but snow white's kingdom is MASSIVE so even geologically they don't match up in my mind. It's blurry to the real world.
