Did anyone else know about the fucking Spider-Blot from the legacy version of Shipwrecked 64? Or was I supposed to just learn about this myself?
Edit: Yes, as the tag says, there was in fact a unique chase theme for Spider-Blot and they even have a functioning jumpscare for it along with an early chase map called "Lab". Chances are this was Blot/Rex's earliest Starling design. There is also the Blot easter egg which I like to call "Worm Blot" in Legacy. It is currently under the final game's map out of bounds, along with other old Legacy models.

@layclaireweek day 5 - au
is azran!claire au a thing? i'm thinking something vaguely along the lines of atlantis: the lost empire. claire isn't a princess though, she's the mechanic in charge of building aurora. that seems more fitting to me

Open Arms
Word Count: 1.8k
Themes: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, A bit steamy at the end, fluff if you squint
Summary: (SPOILER FOR HOGWARTS LEGACY ENDING) Seb and you apologized after he lashed out on you working with goblins.
Author's Note: I wanted to say thank you for the love I’ve gotten from my first story. I had this one in mind for a while, so I went on a writing storm. Hope you like it!
Tumblr media
You have never seen Sebastian Sallow this angry before. His thick eyebrows knitted, blazing eyes burning through your skull. "A friendly goblin? You know goblins cursed my sister to shut her up." Sebastian spat.
It was hard to breath and think straight when the tension between the two students were unbearably thick. "Sebastian, not all goblins-"
"Have you forgotten the mine we just went through? Feldcroft?" Obviously not, there were still dirt and spider web tangled all over your robes.
"No, Seb. I haven't. You're not listening to me!" You basically pleading at this point.
"Why would I listen to someone so ignorant?" He muttered.
"Take a breath for a moment. You don't know what you're saying!"
"Oh, I know precisely what I'm saying. Unbelievable." With that sentence, Sebastian stomped away from the Undercroft.
You didn't consider yourself soft, yet you felt the tears welling up in your eyes, cheeks burning up in anger. Thank Merlin that Sebastian has left the room as you screamed your frustation out. You didn't care even if Sebastian heard you. The way he scolded you made it seemed like you were daft, which in reality was far from that. You had the weight of the world on your shoulder, with Ranrok and Rookwood chasing after you — it's not like you've asked for this either. You would rather enjoy your youth studying normal magic like normal wizards. The keepers didn't help with providing concrete answers anyways, you had to go through tenous puzzles just to uncover pieces of information about your newfound ability to see ancient magic.
On top of that, you had grown fond of your peers in Hogwarts. You have the brilliant Natty, caring Poppy, cheeky Ominis, and smart Amit. But none of them came close to Sebastian Sallow. If anybody asked, you would deny that it was love at first sight. But you couldn't forget the way he showed you 'a proper Hogwarts welcome' in the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. The fact that he covered you from detention also gave butterflies in your stomach. You took the Cruciatus Curse in the Slytherin's tomb, convincing yourself that you did it because you were in debt. In truth, you hated seeing the boy hurt. You wholeheartedly understand his desperation. Sebastian was clinging to the last member of his family. That was why you couldn't stop him from learning the Dark Arts. You thought you'd do the same in his position.
You sniffled, wiping your face using your sleeves.
Tumblr media
It was hard enough to be in the same room with Sebastian, but what ticked you off more was that he pretended that everything was okay with other people. He helped Samantha with her potions, grabbed a book for Poppy, and even sneaked a Fwooper Feather for Garreth. You dismissed the twinge of jealousy that you felt. After all, you didn't even know if Sebastian still considered you as friends. Friends don't ignore each other for a week straight.
You quickly collected your stack of books and rushed to the library. Sitting down at one of the study table on the second floor, you burried your head in the Charms homework that you were assigned to. No use in mooning over the ungrateful Sebastian Sallow.
A red glow appeared in the corner of the page. You turned your head to the side to see Ominis, pointing his wand in your direction. "Thought we'd revise together." He smiled.
"O-oh, sure! please join me." You got up and pulled a chair for the blonde boy, guiding him to a spot in front of you.
Often times you'd wonder why Ominis and Sebastian were best of friends. Sebastian was brash, while Ominis always exuded a calming energy. Despite being a part of House Gaunt, Ominis was a gentle soul. You thought he would hate you after Sebastian showed you the Undercroft, but he quickly resolved it and considered you as a friend.
You were scribbling an essay about the usage of Silencing charm before Ominis cleared his throat, catching your attention. "Are you cross with Sebastian?"
You sighed, dipping your quill in the ink. "I think he is the one who is cross with me."
"I can sense that," he let out a light chuckle, "can't hide his emotions, that boy."
"Who cares anyways... He's better off without me." You kept writing down meaningless words before frustration took over as you slammed your quill. "Ominis, I had to do it. I was thrown into this world without any proper knowledge. I had to take any help that I can get. And I wanted to help Seb, I truly do!"
Ominis nodded, setting his palm on top of yours. "Look, I am thankful that you wanted to help Sebastian. He's my closest friend and the closest thing I have to a family," he paused, "Sebastian... is very vocal about his thoughts. I often remind him to properly think before speaking."
The Slytherin boy's face turned sour, he lowered his tone, "... and I told you about the consequences of using Dark Arts. It will corrupt you." He squeezed your hand, "He doesn't hate you. I can promise you that. The path that he is currently taking is corrupting him."
You nodded, flashing a weak smile. "Thank you, Ominis."
"You're welcome. Now, where were we?"
Tumblr media
Threading through the hall back to your dormitory at night, you saw a shadow heading underneath the stairs. Soon after, you heard a faint click. Must be the undercroft, you'd wager. You debated for a while, yet you found yourself walking towards the clock. Raising your wand, the clock turned and opened the door towards the hidden room. You slowly walked downstairs, peeping through the gate.
There he was, Sebastian Sallow. Hair tussled, robes discarded on the empty barrel. He was wearing his shirt, the green Slytherin tie loosely tied around his neck. Sebastian rolled his sleeves as he gripped his wand and pointed it toward the battle dummy. “Incendio! Confringo! Bombarda!” shouted the boy. Fire and sparks flew everywhere, burning the wooden doll. He went for a while, releasing the pent-up anger he felt inside. Sebastian kept on going until his voice was coarse, out of breath. He backed against the nearest wall, slumping his body down.
“Sebastian?” you called up. His immediately perked up, seeing you shuffled closer to him. His breath hitched, looking away as he twirled his wand between his fingers.
The silence was awkward. You decided to break the ice, “I-“ “I wanted-“ he said at the same time. “Look, I-“ The two said in unison again. Sebastian cracked a chuckle as you giggled, feeling relieved that things are looking up.
“Let me start then,” he sighed, “I apologize for my behaviour before. You were right. I was being rude to you.” Sebastian patted the spot next to him. You obliged as you sat down. “You have been very helpful since the first time I’ve asked you to see Anne. You cheered me up when I was feeling distraught, you explored dodgy caves, and battled enemies for me,” he smiled softly, “Again, I am sorry. Not having you by my side is a torture for me.”
Warmth crept up your cheeks, thanking the universe that the Undercroft was dark enough so Sebastian couldn’t see how red your face was. “Sebastian…”
“Anne’s condition worsen by the day,” he held his wand, a faint glow flickered at the end, “I lost both of my parents. I knew from the start that my uncle didn’t like me. He called me, my father’s son, like it was a bad thing. I can’t imagine losing Anne too… I won’t have anyone else-“
Before he could finish his story, you wrapped your arms around his body, pulling him close to you. You could feel his body stiffen at first. It didn’t take long until Sebastian snaked his arms around your waist, his head resting on your chest. You rested your head on top of his, coarse strands of brunette hair tickling your chin. The smell of pines, ash, and smoke filled your nose. Sebastian closed his eyes, savouring the moment. He couldn’t remember when was the last time somebody held him so tender, so gentle. The boy started to sniffle, soft whimpers and cried escaped his lips. You didn’t care about the damp spot on your shirt, all you wanted was to assure that Sebastian that he had you, and he would always have you. You stroked his head as he held you tighter than ever.
As you heard his cries died down, reduced into small hiccups and sighs, you softly whispered, “Sebastian, I’m sorry too. I should have told you about my plans. I was scared of telling others about my secrets. I felt like I had to carry this burden myself even though you always offered to help me,” you trailed, “I hated seeing you sad. I wanted to help.”
Sebastian nodded before pulling back. Both students giggled as they saw how puffy their faces were. You cupped Sebastian’s face, wiping away his tears. “Are we okay?” you asked. He flashed a gentle smile as he rested his forehead against yours, “of course we are. Thank you.”
Everything was a blur as you felt warmth against your lips. Sebastian had closed the gap between the two of you, gently grasping your hands. Your mind went blank -- It was your first kiss. You pulled back, his half-lidded eyes searching for yours. You leaned in again, your arms found their way back around his neck. He tilted his head to the side, deepening the kiss. Giggles escaped your lips as you bumped your nose against his. Well, your knowledge of courting was as limited as the romance books stashed in the corner of the library. Deep down, you were comforted seeing how clumsy Sebastian was too.
Sebastian slowly lifted your body, your legs now straddling his waist. His calloused hands ghosted over your legs, slipping underneath your skirt. You gasped, head spinning as you felt his hands eased their way under the curvature of your bottom, fingers slipping under your undergarment. He took this chance to swipe his tongue inside, exploring your mouth. The kiss was messy, but there was an endearing charm to it.
It was too much – your hand frantically roamed around his body before finding their rest on his hair, pulling it gently. Sebastian groaned into the kiss, which sent shivers down your spine. Your waist instinctively grinded against his, finding friction to ease the growing desire bubbling in your body. You whined as he pulled back, producing a string of saliva between the two. Sebastian’s face was flushed, eyes looking at you hungrily. He dived in again, lips trailing from your forehead, nose, lips, and down to your neck. He softly nibbed your skin, earning a mewl from you. “You’re mine.” He grunted, admiring the small red hickey now adoring the side of your neck.
Before you could continue, you both heard the bells tolling. Sebastian snorted and rested his head on your shoulder. You laughed, hugging him close. “We better get going.” You felt Sebastian pulled your sleeve as you stood up.
“Promise me,” Sebastian muttered, “promise me you will always be there for me.”
“I promise.”

Firefly's true identity "theory"
But like there is so many signs pointing towards it I don't think it's a theory.
There's 1 singular picture that is a leak : so no story leaks - but spoilers for Penacony's 2.0 story and if you want to keep yourself as blind and go with what you want to keep the suspense i would advise you do not read this theory : it could ruin the upcoming reveal and make it less impactful for some.
Tumblr media
1- Firefly is working with someone
A person that can make themselves invisible through memories, as if bending reality to keep their identity secret. We only of one person that can do something like this : SilverWolf, a Stellaron Hunter. But upon first arriving in Penacony's dreamscape, we see SilverWolf... But who is she with? Sam.
Tumblr media
Also it is very in character for the Stellaron Hunters to work in the shadows ; they rarely play a major role in the stories we've seen so far. Even when they were the ones to initiate the story of The Xianzhou Luofu they weren't the main antagonist, they were in the background.
So them being in the shadows doing their thing? Yeah.
Also both Firefly and her companion are interested in the Watchmaker's "Legacy", which is most likely a Stellaron (see Bonus) so that mysterious companion being a Stellaron Hunter is highly likely.
Tumblr media
2- Firefly mentions a "Mecha"
There isn't a lot of humanoid robots in Honkai Star Rail, let alone in Penacony, the "Silver Armor" also basically confirms that this is Sam they're talking about. Now why would Firefly of all people talk about Sam ?
She has no reason to know him and talk about him ; unless he was chasing her but Sam doesn't chase people. He is stated to be the most ruthless Stellaron Hunter : ''If you entered the room and turned on the lights Kafka and Blade would be waiting for you on the couch, Sam? He wouldn't even let you turn the lights on''
So if he was pursuing Firefly. She would have been dead the millisecond their eyes meet.
While talking about Sam's violence I'd like to point out that : He didn't acknowledge Trailblazer (only mentioning the Galaxy Hunter and Memokeeper) and allowed us to leave. Yes, the one who would kill in a fraction of a second, would have spared the Trailblazer. Maybe it's because of Elio's plan for the Trailblazer (we were given life by the Stellaron Hunters so it would be weird for them to kill us right after) or it could be because Firefly's consciousness (still unclear if Sam and Firefly are two identities for 1 person or 2 separate entities) stopping Sam due to her affection for Trailblazer.
Tumblr media
3- The achievement
I have nothing to say except that it's weird that the achievement we get for fighting Sam is named "Old Friends, New Friends" why would it be named that? Sam isn't a friend to the Trailblazer, at this point in time he is an enemy.
Tumblr media
4- Sam's design
First let's talk about his "wings"
Those aren't designed as random shapes, but specifically to look like fireflies wings.
Images as well as this "fact" are taken from TheRealPetraeus on Twitter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Sam's color scheme/palette is very close to Firefly's : mainly light gray/Silver with teal and brown accents and even the orange "scarf" Firefly has could represent Sam's fire
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5- Clockie
Clockie can only be seen by childish/pure hearted people, but guess who can't see him? Firefly, despite her seemingly fitting the criteria perfectly.
-------
Bonus : Watchmaker's "Legacy"
It isn't said what this legacy is, but the presence of the Stellaron Hunters is a massive hint at the fact that a Stellaron is present in Penacony ; this and the fact that Penacony is encountering a crisis with the Dreamscape. And Firefly is after this "Legacy" ; which is both a hint at the true nature of the Watchmaker's "Legacy" and Firefly's true identity as a Stellaron Hunter.

2.2k words // part 1
warnings: mentions of death, violence, blood/gore language, one instance of y/n, not edited
❥ taglist: @breadbowser @lillunna @fanboyluvr @wroetoslut @gojosbucket
in the last 12 hours, you and ethan had grown very close, despite the more than unusal circumstances; or maybe because of them. both having been thrown into such a crazy situation, with a masked killer on the loose, it made it a little better that you weren’t going through it alone. everyone in the group had someone - tara and sam had eachother, same with chad and mindy. ethan and you were by far the most outcasted from the group, so in a weird way it brought you together.
sam and tara had been attacked by a killer in a ghostface mask at a bodega on the way to the police station last night, confirming that the murder that had happened a few hours before was in fact no coincidence. woodsboro had followed sam and tara and their friends to new york, and by association, you, ethan and everyone else were potential targets as well as potential suspects.
it was now daytime, sam and tara having spent all night at the police station. everyone except danny, sam’s neighbour friend, were sat outside the college campus, listening to mindy go over the rules of a franchise; which is what she determined you were all in at this point. sitting on the bench next to ethan with your legs across his lap, as mindy stood in front of the group.
“listen up nerds. as terrifying as this situation is, i’m actually glad i get the chance i get to redeem myself for not calling the killers last time. now, it seems like the killer is out to make a sequel to the requel,” mindy began.
“um- what’s a requel?” anika asked, raising her hand.
“sweetie, you’re beautiful. let’s hold all questions till the end,” mindy said.
“stab 1 took place in woodsboro…. stab 2 took place in…college,” sam recalled.
“i don’t like this,” ethan shook his head.
“do we think the killer is following the movies?” tara asked.
“it’s possible, and it would make sense if this was a regular sequel. but nobody just makes sequels anymore, we’re in a franchise! and there are certain rules to surviving a franchise!” mindy explained.
“i had a feeling,” sam sighed.
“everything has to be bigger than last time. forget about the legacy characters; canon fodder at this point. only brought back to be killed of in a cheap bit for nostalgia bit. it’s all about doing something different to keep people coming back: longer chase scenes, higher body count. if the killers last time were whiney, snowflake film nerds with letterboxd accounts instead of personalities, you can expect it to be the opposite this time. new city, suspicious new characters added to the friend group to round out the suspect list. and that’s not even the worst part,” mindy went on.
“oh this is where she tells us the worst part,” chad chimes in.
“the thing about franchises is that they’re ongoing episodic storylines… which means that main characters are expendable now too. meaning any of us could bite it at any time… especially sam and tara.”
“wait- am i in the friend group?” ethan asked, and mindy nodded.
“yeah i feel like i don’t really qualify,” you added. “i didn’t even know you guys 2 days ago.”
“this is true. it would seem you just have terrible timing. plus- you are from woodsboro, so that probably counts for something,” chad said, and unfortunately you realized he was probably right.
“but-i’m not like… one of the targets?” ethan asked, to which mindy nodded again and responded with a simple ‘mhm’.
“am i gonna die a virgin?” ethan asked, perhaps not realizing he said it out loud.
“that was a weird overshare.” mindy said, making a face.
“and by the looks of it i don’t think that’s gonna be a problem,” chad teased, gesturing to you and ethan. a blush formed on ethan’s face and you gave chad the finger, although you weren’t really that offended. he returned the gesture with a smile, and you knew he had just been teasing.
“first up; ethan, the shy and dorky guy who no one suspects because he’s so shy and dorky-“ mindy continued her speech.
“watch it,” you threatened, giving her a nasty look.
“why am i on the suspect list? because i’m randomly chads roomate?” ethan asked.
“roomate lotteries can be juked- you could’ve fixed it to get next to us!” she said, turning her attention to you. “and you- clearly you have some unresolved anger issues, and you suspiciously found your way into our friend group the night the killings started. not to mention the fact that you look like you know how to murder someone and get away with it.”
“for the record - i was not exactly trying to join your friend group; no offence.”
“so how did you end up with us last night?” tara asked genuinely.
“we were together at the frat party when you all left,” ethan explained. “we have econ together.”
“together.. at the party?” chad asked suggestively, wiggling his eyebrows, and tara slapped his arm. “sorry.”
“i’m in your film studies class too,” you said to mindy, ignoring chads question.
“interesting. so you also have a connection to the first victim.”
“mindy- i know you’re having your patented monologue moment, but i was at the same party as you when the murder happened. and i was in the apartment with you when sam and tara were attacked- we all were.”
“there’s always more than one killer- which brings us back to ….quinn - the slutty roomate; a horror movie classic.”
“sex positive, and… thank you?” she said, a confused look on her face.
“how exactly did you come to live with sam and tara?”
“i answered their ad online-“
“okay, say no more; you’ve already implicated yourself enough,” mindy interrupted.
“it was an anonymous ad mindy, plus her dad is a cop-“
“and that makes it more likely that she’s the killer becasue having a cop dad is a great cover- do you not remember how these movies work tara?” she yelled. “and finally; anika,” she said gesturing to her girlfriend, who blew a kiss at her, which mindy returned. “never trust the love interest.” her eyes narrowed, and anikas smile dropped.
“okay.. so we have our rules. and we have our suspects.”
“uhh what about you guys?” ethan suggested, referring to the four survivors from last years attacks.
“i think it’s safe to rule out the four of us who went through this last year,” mindy smiled.
“agreed.” chad said, pointing at her.
“well what if it is one of you. i mean what if the trauma from the last killing spree got to be too much and one… or more of you snapped.” quinn suggested.
“or- what if all of the killings made you thirsty for more? i mean to be honest some of the theories online about sam…” ethan started.
“don’t you fucking dare.” tara snapped, and he raised his eyebrows, but didn’t continue his sentence.
“ok let’s just face facts. if we’re all suspects, you’re all suspects.” anika said.
everyone silently agreed, eyeing eachother nervously as you
///
everyone was back at sam and tara’s apartment, except for ethan, who had said he was going to econ. with everything going on you decided not to go, as well you thought better to stay with the group than split up. you had tried to convince ethan to stay as well, but he said his dad would kill him if he didn’t go - he was super uptight about grades and stuff.
sitting on the couch with anika as chad, mindy, tara and sam were in the kitchen, you started to wish you had gone with ethan. what if something happened to him?
“shit,” you muttered under your breath, and anika looked over at you.
“hey… if you’re worried about ethan, i’m sure he’s fine. he’s with a bunch of people in class right?” she smiled. you were thankful for the reassurance, and to her surprise you smiled back.
“you’re right… thank you.”
“you seem cool. i wish we met under better circumstances,” she admitted, and you were a little surprised; she was one on the only people in ethan’s friend group who had been nice to you.
“yeah, me too.”
“so.. you and ethan?” she asked playfully, and you shrugged, looking at your phone awkwardly, secretly hoping he would text to say he was alive or something.
“i don’t know. we made out at the party and then… all this happened.” you said. it had been a crazy 24 hours to say the least. you wondered what you would be doing right now if you hadn’t talked to ethan at the party. “he’s cute though. it’s nice to have a … friend through all this i guess.” you weren’t sure why you were being so open with her, but you couldn’t help but feel a little better after talking about how you were feeling.
“well, i think after all this is over we could be friends. isn’t stuff like this supposed to bring people together?” she said, and you felt your phone buzz in your lap. “is that him?”
“yeah; he’s just checking in,” you answered, before typing a reply to ethan to let him know you were all okay. you typed out “i miss you” but decided against sending it, instead erasing the message and dropping your phone back on your lap. it soon buzzed again, and you picked it up, expecting it to be ethan again.
banging sounds could be heard from quinn’s bedroom, and you assumed it was her and her guest going at it again, until you heard the four voices in the dining room hush and someone mutter a quiet “oh my god.”
looking at your phone, you opened a text from an unknown number to be met with a photo of someone in a ghostface costume holding a bloody quinn, just on the other side of the door. everyone gathered next to you and anika in the living room, and you all stood in silence staring at the door to quinn’s room.
“run,” mindy spoke, and the door swung open, quinn’s body landing on you and anika, knocking you both to the floor. ghostface followed close behind and slashed at mindys arm, as chad and tara ran out of the apartment, leaving you, mindy, anika and sam. pushing quinn’s bloodied body off of the two of you, terror flashed in your eyes as the killer dove towards you, and you sent him backwards with a boot to the chest. he went after anika next, his hands wrapping around her throat and lifting her off the ground, and she squirmed around before he pinned her to the wall and drove his knife into her stomach. she screamed in pain as the killer twisted the knife and dragged it upwards, blood pouring from the wound before you picked up a dining room chair and slammed it over his back. the killer dropped anika to the ground, and you and mindy grabbed her and followed sam into quinn’s room, managing to slam the door just in time. the killer banged against it repeatedly and you turned the lock, leaning against the door as you breathed heavily.
“mindy- bathroom door,“ sam whispered, and mindy hurried to lock door on the other side of the room to the adjacent bathroom, where you heard her exclaim, you assumed at the sight of quinn’s lovers body, considering he was nowhere to be seen. sam followed walked over to the window, and you heard her slide it open as you held your hands against anikas stomach, trying to stop the bleeding.
sam and mindy screamed, the killer having come around to the other side of the door through the bathroom, throwing his body against it and trying to break open the lock. you and anika ran over, and tried to help mindy hold the door closed. after slashing at you with the knife, creating a deep gash in your shoulder blade, the four of you managed to push him out, barricading the door with a dresser. it wouldn’t hold him off for long, and he continued to kick at the door as danny, sams boyfriend next door slid a ladder over the expanse between the two windows for you all to crawl across.
“she’s loosing a lot of blood,” mindy said, referring to anika.
“say something more positive!” she cried in response, as sam started climbing out the window. sam made it across, calling for mindy to come next. you and her were using your weight to hold the dresser in place, trying to keep the killer out of the room with all of your strength.
“someone has to hold the door. y/n you go, i’ll get anika next.” she suggested instead, and you knew mindy just wanted to stay behind to protect her girlfriend. somehow even with everything that was currently happening, your mind flashed to ethan; and you were thankful that he wasn’t here, and that he was somewhere safe. “come on!”
you shrieked as the killer managed to get the door slightly open, and reach his arm through, the silver knife in his hand catching your cheekbone and leaving a long cut behind. mindy still leaning all of her weight against the dresser nodded at you to go, and you made your way to the window, grabbing hold of the ladder. sam and danny were holding it steady on the other side, and all you could think was
do not look down
do not look down
do not look down-
you crawled across the cold ladder over the alleyway below; which was surely a 30 foot drop if not further. you made it across and danny pulled you into the apartment, as sam called for anika to come next. her and mindy went back and forth on who should go across first, and anika promised to be right behind mindy. pressing a tearful kiss to her shaking girlfriends lips, mindy started her crawl across the ladder as you all held the ladder steady from the other side.
you watched as the dresser continued to shake from the killer kicking the door to get in, and anika cried that she couldn’t do it as she approached the window, her trembling hands gripping the ladder with blood covered fingers. she was bleeding badly from her stomach, but with reassurance from mindy and sam, she got onto the ladder and slowly started moving across it. she was about a third of the way across, and the four of you in danny’s apartment watched with wide eyes as the killer broke into the room with no one’s weight holding the dresser.
“what?” anika asked, noticing that all of you had gone silent.
“anika you need to move right now!” mindy and sam yelled, urging her to continue across the ladder. she looked back as the killer stabbed the knife into the windowsill, and grabbed hold of the ladder. anika screamed and held on for dear life as he began to shake the ladder up and down, and then from side to side; attempting to throw her off of it.
the four of you tried desperately to hold it steady, mindy in hysterics. begging the terrified to hurry across the ladder. she managed to move slightly forward and was almost close enough to reach sams outstretched hand, as she called for her to take it. the ladder shook hard as she tried to grab hold of sams hand, and the killer twisted it to side, causing anika to fall screaming to the ground below, her head slamming into the open dumpster below. mindy balled next to you, and you all stared across the alleyway at the killer, as he picked up the knife and walked out of view.

alright everybody. its finally time for my ace attorney investigations 2 retrospective/excuse to talk about the von karma-edgeworth family soap opera for a few thousand words. ive never been good at intro paragraphs so we're just gonna get right into it. this is gonna get long probably so be warned - i was originally going to put it under a cut but unfortunately doing that breaks the image format for some reason so uhhhh we're both just gonna have to live with it 😔 obviously this post is going to have major unmarked spoilers so if you havent played this game for some reason yet you should definitely get on that. anyways. without further ado:
investigations 2 is kind of ultimately about who edgeworth was and who edgeworth is and who edgeworth wants to be, explored via the lens of the nature of parent-child relationships and how parents' legacies impact the decisions their children make and the people they become.
at the end of aa1 (+rfta), edgeworth is confronted with the harsh reality that his mentor/adopted father & the man who taught him everything he knows about prosecuting is 1) a terrible person and 2) did actually have a habit of using forged evidence to keep his 40 year streak going. after being accused of corruption for having used fake evidence himself (unknowingly, but still), edgeworth goes on his whole journey of "what does being a prosecutor even mean, anyways" by means of worlds most melodramatic fake suicide. the answer he ends up arriving at is that defense lawyers and prosecutors, when they have relatively upstanding morals and are given the tools to actually do their jobs, serve as vehicles for the truth, and cannot reliably fulfill this duty without each other. however, the question has always kind of lingered - "well, what about being a defense attorney like gregory?"
phoenix routinely brings up the class trial as like the most formative memory of his own childhood - that experience is inherently tied to who phoenix is as a person - but that trial literally only exists because edgeworth was imitating his father in being a defense attorney. the main character of the main series' inspiration for becoming a defense attorney is intrinsically tied to "back when edgeworth was "good", before manfred "corrupted" him". its because edgeworth becomes a corrupt prosecutor that phoenix chases after him into law school - this apparent complete and entire betrayal of phoenix's whole understanding of him as a person.
so then, now that edgeworth is "good" again, why doesnt he quit the whole prosecutor thing and go back to his childhood dream of becoming like his father?
this question is kind of just left up in the air until investigations 2. with the prosecutor investigation committee being completely corrupted, they make it abundantly clear they dont appreciate edgeworth sticking out of line in an attempt to do his literal job, and try to control him by threatening to take away his badge. furthermore, shields, gregory's old companion, shows back up and works with edgeworth to find the the truth of a handful of incidents that would've otherwise been covered up by the p.i.c. - including gregory's last case, in which he proved that manfred, who prosecuted that same case, did indeed forge evidence.
after relinquishing his badge in a protest against what is clearly an injustice, manfred's old habits being dredged back up, and the extended hand of the man in charge of his father's old law firm, edgeworth is getting pulled in a number of different directions - will he capitulate, give up on prosecuting entirely, run away from his past, and become a defender of the people and an attorney like his father? or will he reject manfred's terrible methods while working to rectify his mentor/adopted father's wrongdoings, face his past head-on, and seek the truth as a prosecutor, regardless of his mentor's legacy and reputation?
both of the paths offered to edgeworth hinge on who he used to be - a boy who wanted nothing more than to be like his father, a phenomenal defense attorney who stood up for those who had nobody to stand up for them, and a young adult who saw the injustice in the world and wanted to punish it in the best way he could think of - becoming like his adopted father who never failed to put a (seemingly) guilty person behind bars.
investigations 2 gives us..... a whole slew of parent-child relationships. like what can only be described as truly an impressive amount: gregory & miles & manfred, master & katherine, sebastian & debeste, gustavia & simon, dover & knightley, blaise & sebastian, courtney & john, lang's dad & lang, and more tangentially manfred & franziska and byrne & kay. for our purposes, though, we're going to focus on the most immediately relevant ones to edgeworth's development specifically - sebastian & blaise and gustavia & simon.
for starters, i think it would probably be best to get the von karma-edgeworth family soap opera soapboxing out of the way.
edgeworth's arc in this game primarily revolves around what he wants to do with his life - he talks a whole lot about his "path", but doesnt really know what that means outside of seeking the truth at all costs. the people around him like to slot him into either "defense attorney" or "prosecutor" for a variety of reasons, but more often than not it ends up boiling down to his fathers in at least some capacity.
franziska is personally betrayed and frankly disgusted by edgeworth giving up his badge (which makes plenty of sense, particularly after their conversation at the end of aa2 and which i have talked about here), and a notable portion of that does have to do with her & manfred's relationship to edgeworth. manfred's influence was a huge factor in miles' decision to become a prosecutor, and they both know it. of course, the more pressing issue for her is the fact that miles is abandoning her again - but the point remains that had it not been for manfred, the likelihood of miles becoming a prosecutor would be, frankly, much lower.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
shields, on the other hand, spends a whole lot of the game projecting gregory onto miles. he wants edgeworth to follow in his fathers footsteps and play the role of the returning prodigal son, because he misses gregory and sees a lot of his influence and mannerisms in miles. actually, something i kind of found particularly interesting is that at one point, shields remarks that edgeworth's trademark glare was the same as that of gregory's. theres a whole lot of remarks made on that glare, actually, particularly in combination with edgeworths furrowed brow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but... shields himself is the one who says this
Tumblr media
about - would you guess it - a certain manfred von karma. its no secret that miles has picked up a whole number of manfred's mannerisms and attitudes, even as he's unlearning some of the more harmful ones, but what i found particularly fascinating is that shields saw something that miles picked up from manfred and saw gregory in it instead. while part of it certainly could be that miles did pick part of it up from gregory (which is something that has a basis in the sprites - something i may actually get into a little bit later), its also very possible that this is shields projecting what he wants to see onto miles as opposed to what's actually there. its even more interesting though, because when they first meet, shields actually mistakes edgeworth for manfred because of that glare
Tumblr media Tumblr media
shields is so caught up in wanting gregory back from the dead that he occasionally blinds himself from acknowledging that miles is an entirely different person.
and, of course, throughout both this game and the previous investigations game, there's more than a few moments in which edgeworth personally accused of using falsified evidence to convict people - specifically harkening back to our good friend manfred von karma, posterchild of world's most corrupt prosecutors and edgeworth's adopted father/mentor. shields even expresses immense distrust of miles at first simply on this fact, acknowledging that miles was indeed like a son to manfred (..... for whatever that's worth)
Tumblr media
actually. while we're here on this point i want to speak briefly about sprite similarities
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this game does a whole lot of calling attention to the influence manfred & gregory have had on miles - obviously theres the furrowed brow & piercing gaze and terrible people skills that miles got from manfred, but he also has gregory's affinity for tea and dorky camera face. the sprites also do a great job in visually establishing his inherited mannerisms though - while manfred's influence has done a lot, gregory's habits still peek through the cracks.
ive talked about this a little bit on another post, but i feel like it warrants repeating here anyways. the sprite animations in ace attorney are great for a lot of reasons, but one of the most interesting ones is how they're frequently used to imply connections between characters and the influence of certain relationships.
we know that miles definitely did not get his bowing from manfred, but with gregory's sprites in this game it becomes abundantly clear where they originated from (of course, with the over-the-top melodrama of the von karmas added on top). similarly with miles' hand bounding sprite, its a pointed finger (giving it an accusatory tint, definitely coming from manfred), while gregory's is an open hand (much more inviting), but the bounce nonetheless remains. the sprite similarities between miles & manfred are a bit more straightforward, but something i find tremendously interesting is how the mannerisms miles picked up from his father have the von karma influence absorbed into them - it really is a brilliant visual indicator of the impact both his fathers have had on his character.
i've talked about this general topic semi-extensively on this blog simply because i am truly a bit obsessed with the von karma-edgeworth family soap opera, but i feel like it warrants repeating here anyways since it comes up in this came so often. miles' relationship with gregory is... honestly not really explored terribly much? like shields will reference him a lot and both him and the game itself absolutely loves comparing the two, but as far as edgeworth's personal feelings on gregory go... we. honestly don't get much, either directly or indirectly. which makes sense, obviously - edgeworth was like 9 when he died - but its still interesting. we obviously know that gregory loved edgeworth a lot (see: him thinking about miles periodically throughout the investigation . which is. for the record. absolutely adorable)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but miles doesn't get much of anything at all in terms of internal or external dialogue about gregory. his relationship with manfred, however, is... a lot more messy, but also explored a fair bit through implications.
mr von karma gets brought up a lot in both investigations 1 & 2, and miles' reaction is largely the same - he'll comment on objective facts (usually ones that were brought up in the first by the people around him) whether its manfred's skill in prosecuting or his tendency towards forgery, but blatantly refuses to ever give any sort of subjective opinion on him (franziska is, for the record, the exact same way). theyll dance around the topic, sure, but never genuinely engage with it - as much can be seen if you make edgeworth present his badge to amano in investigations 1.
while franziska's feelings on her father are a lot more obscured, miles' are a little more openly messy - after all, he still keeps his prosecutors badge in his pocket all these years after manfred told him prosecutors who wore their badges are tacky. he still wears the jabot, an integral and iconic bit of manfreds attire (and another thing that made shields briefly think he was manfred). he still has no problem connecting with and helping manfred's old friends (amano, for example). and, mostly damning of all, he still keeps his old prosecutors outfit - the outfit manfred gave him based off of his own suit - plastered to his office wall. its clear that he doesnt approve of manfred's methods of prosecution and recognizes that he was definitely corrupt, but even with all the murder and framing and so on and so forth... manfred was still his dad. even if its not logical for miles to still hold on to that filial love, you cant really argue your emotions into changing into something rational.
with the repeated importance being placed on the influence of gregory and manfred on miles' life, their relationship to him, and other people's expectations for miles based on their legacies established, i think we can probably try to get into sebastian now. gonna be copy-pasting most of my sebastian vs miles & franziska mini-essay here because i dont want to retype it.
sebastian is actually a kind of interesting foil for franziska and miles - its pretty clear that franziska didnt become a prosecutor specifically for manfreds approval (see: miles’ comment on her always having been a prosecutor) and likewise with edgeworth (see: his statement on his motivation for becoming a prosecutor having been to chase down criminals after what happened to gregory), but throughout the flashback case in investigations 1 it is so obvious that both of them desperately crave manfred’s approval even to the point of competing over it.
while this competition follows the usual format of franziska insisting on something and miles passively going along with it as opposed to actively engaging, he spends the entire case literally trying to be a mini-manfred (its very sad and also kind of cute), and its made pretty clear that at the very least he would not be the prosecutor he is without manfred’s influence. furthermore, at the end of aa2, franziska also comments on the pressures and expectations being placed on her by virtue of being manfred’s daughter - she felt that she was obligated to become a genius prosecutor simply because of her birth. while the wording indicated to me outside pressure rather than manfred specifically, the point remains that manfred, while not the sole driving reason, did have a significant impact on their career choice.
sebastian, however, specifically says he became a prosecutor for the purpose of getting his dad's approval. blaise routinely speaks ill of sebastian, calling him stupid and an idiot and embarrassing and so on and so forth, but its incredibly clear that sebastian is genuinely desperate for any sort of positive affirmation from his father. he unknowingly cheated his way through law school, graduating at the top of his class purely through blaise's connections, and is genuinely distraught when he finds out that everything he built his adult life on was a lie. the game spends a fair amount of time showing you how wildly terrible sebastian is at being a prosecutor, only to reveal that the reason he's like this is, like, 80% his dad's fault.
unlike sebastian, however, franziska and miles are both quite competent at their jobs and manfred, unlike blaise, actually has confidence in their ability to perform to his expectations (see: him bullying badd into letting them try to solve the case in the investigations 1 flashback case). sebastian & blaise are like a worse and caricatured version of the von karma family soap - basically, they're what would happen if miles & franziska 1) were absolutely dependent on manfreds approval and 2) weren't terribly good at prosecuting, and if manfred was 1) prone to coddling and 2) actively verbally abusive.
theres also the added parallel of “oops! my dad actually really sucks as a person” and the ensuing Complicated Feelings On Dad after this. franziska expresses an egregious amount of disdain for sebastian before we really get into the blaise debacle because she doesnt respect him as a person at all, but is honestly surprisingly sympathetic when it turns out his dad is a criminal. futhermore, she willingly relinquishes her place at the prosecutor's bench for him when its clear he's ready to stand up to blaise, even if hes crying and sobbing the whole way through. its this shared experience and his subsequent growing of a spine that earns her respect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
edgeworth, for his part, also doesnt seem to respect sebastian much at all before the kidnapping incident. however, upon trying to prod him into telling what happened, edgeworth recognizes a part of his old self in sebastian, as well as sebastians willingness to grow up and move past his desperation for his father's approval.
more than just being a funhouse mirror version of the von karmas, blaise and sebastians relationship highlights the dangers of blindly chasing after your parents, critical thinking long forgotten, which has a twofold meaning in regards to miles. obviously, theres the pretty straightforward parallel to his blatant idolization of manfred as a young prosecutor - while the situation wasnt necessarily the same, it still possesses those echoes of a desperate need for acknowledgement/approval, to the point of following their fathers' examples even in the worst ways. @/pkducklett left some really great tags on one of my posts which hits the nail on the head:
Tumblr media
but it also begs the question: is blindly chasing after his childhood dream of being like gregory really what miles wants to do with his life? a point we'll loop back around to in a bit, but important to keep in mind for edgeworth's overall arc.
so onto simon & gustavia! simon's relationship with his murderous father gustavia also serves as a foil to miles and one of his dads like sebastian & blaise - however, instead of our notoriously trigger happy friend manfred von karma, it's actually.... gregory! which is, for the record, tremendously fun. simon & miles both became orphans at a young age - which is a notable part of the reason edgeworth agrees to take his case in the jail episode, even. the camaraderie between two people who have shared in the same traumatizing experience and so on and so forth - but instead of being taken from his son like gregory was, gustavia purposely abandons simon once he's deemed him worthless.
post-orphaning, both miles & sebastian are taken under the wing of men of questionable character - miles is adopted by manfred von karma, gregory's rival, murderer, and the anti-thesis of everything he stood for, and sebastian becomes the apprentice to dogen, a ruthless assassin. interestingly enough, though, this parallel diverges in the end - manfred throws miles under the bus and backs up over him like three separate times, metaphorically speaking, while dogen actively puts his life on the line to save sebastian.
miles & simon both experienced the injustice of the law system - miles in the absolute failure of the courts to find his father's true murderer, and simon in his personal experience in its utter corruption. their reactions to this injustice leads them both to commit further injustices - miles in uncritically adopting manfred's ideals and teachings, and in this process definitely sending innocent people to jail at some point or another, and simon in his attempt at semi-vigilante justice via manipulating all the people who ruined his life into either ending or ruining each others', regardless of anybody innocent who got caught in the crossfire.
of course, the narrative purpose of making simon a foil to miles is the final confrontation on three main points - 1) what does miles fight for? why is he a prosecutor? 2) how do you deal with the absolutely rotten law system in japanifornia? 3) are we simply doomed to become our parents, or can we become more than just their continued legacies? which naturally leads us to the final question posed in the thesis - the heart of the game - who does miles want to be?
shields spends a lot of time trying to convince miles to pick up gregory's mantle and join him back at the law offices, but the problem is that miles simply isn't the starry-eyed child who would do anything to be like his father anymore (growing up under the roof of one of the greatest prosecutors of one's time will do that to you). he's no longer the sebastian to blaise for either of his fathers - he cannot simply throw everything he's learned and experienced away in an attempt to imitate gregory, but also has soundly rejected many of manfred's most staunchly held ideals. while not all of them remain, a major part of the reasons he became a prosecutor still hold - even as he's abandoned his badge.
simon was what edgeworth could have become under slightly different circumstances, and he says as much himself. he recognizes that the law isn't perfect and more often than not is wildly abused by everybody in power to subject everybody else to their whims - and that, no matter how hard a defense attorney tries.... if the courts are inherently stacked against them, a corrupt prosecutor will inevitably win. at the end of aa2, edgeworth returns from his wildly melodramatic sabbatical with the answer that the prosecution and the defense need to work hand in hand to reveal the truth - which is, obviously, a correct statement - but there's more to it than that.
there's more than just the defendant at stake in trial - the protection of the victims (whether recognized as the victim by the law or not) are why the laws exist in the first place - this is the reason that edgeworth arrives at for his reason for being a prosecutor. its simon who reminds him of why he started down this path in the first place - the visceral pain edgeworth felt at his father's death and the desire for justice to be done for gregory and himself mirroring simon's feelings after being abandoned by his father and his flight after being the witness to a crime wildly corrupt people in power committed. to be what phoenix was for him in turnabout goodbyes - to be a beacon of hope and justice for the wronged - that is miles' duty.
edgeworth speaks a lot about following "his path" to truth, wherever that might lead, but at the beginning of the game doesnt seem to have a clear idea of what he actually wants to do. he stalls out on shields' many wink wink nudge nudge offers to join the defense attorney firm and be like his dad and continues acting like a prosecutor (indicting people, investigating, the likes) even while being stripped of his authority as one (by his own choice!).
ultimately it all boils back down to these three questions miles asks sebastian in the logic chess game post kidnapping - "what are you going to do now? will you walk the same path as your father? will you continue to be a prosecutor?"
much, much earlier in the game, shields says to edgeworth, "to fight crime as a prosecutor, or to save people as a defense attorney. i want you to think carefully about how you want to live your life from now on." - which, taken with the context of the game as an essay on parents and inheritance and manfred & gregory's influence on miles, is... pretty much the game in a nutshell, actually.
miles spends the entire time playing both defense attorney and prosecutor, indicting certain people and defending others throughout. this is arguably most notable in the flashback/flashforward case where all the members of the original is-7 investigation are there, except for manfred and gregory, who are both being stood in for by - would you guess it - our very own miles edgeworth. he is their legacy, their successor, and their inheritor. in the end, he takes the skills they taught him and the values they imbued him with and the lessons he learned from them to forge his own path - it really is just his final answer to shields' question in the finale of the game: "i want to save people as a prosecutor."

NIMONA DEMON SLAYER AU HEADCANON TIME
Fic by our amazing @long-distance-muse
The hc are based on our convo with her and @mvjerbs
I'm just putting whatever HC I can think of,
For those who doesn't watch Demon slayer, this might contain spoilers from canon
- Nimona may have the role of Tanjiro but she's also got the personality Inosuke,
- When they were young, Bal founded Nimona when she was just a little girl that's been all alone, so he and Valerin took her in
- She used to have long dull red hair as a kid, but as a teen her hair got reddish pink from eating almost half of the sakura mochi, and that she doesn't want her hair to be a bothersome
- Since Nimona and Bal are one of the eldest children in the orphanage, they take turns on who's selling charcole and who's helping Valerin with the children
- Even as a Demon, Bal can still talk from the Bamboo muzzle but it's almost clear to understand like how people speak with their mouths covered from a hand, only Nimona , Meredith, Ambro and few others can understand him.
- For Ambrosius, he's willing to follow the family footsteps in becoming the next demon slayer in a long line of Hashiras
- Ambrosius being so unwilling to continue his great great Grandma’s legacy, but seeing Bal and finding something worth protecting
- Since in this au, Gloreth is his great great grandma and the strongest demon slayer/lightning hashira ever to existed
- Ambro is such a big simp on Bal, the moment he first look at him, that he stared drafting his wedding vows, poetry, Haikus, and songs about how beautiful and sweet Bal is
- Nimona wasn't so please to know that he's simping on her dad, especialy if he makes Bal nervous and runs from him that she'll chase Ambro down with her bare hands
- Ambrosius offering nimona that he would carry the box that Ballister sleeps in that Nimona gets pissed THEN chases him around with her katana
- One night, Nimona tries to sleep then suddenly she hears the box open, followed by ambrosius "annoying" voice going "Bal!" Then she wakes up and tries to choke him
- A silly scenario from @mvjerbs Ambrosius's crow tells him about his mission and unfortunately it's in the opposite direction to where nimona was assigned. He tries talking to his crow and at some point begging the crow to assign him with nimona. His crow did not relent and he walks away from nimona sulking.
- If you're wondering on what Bal's Ability would be is that he can turn apart of himself like stone or maybe metal just strengthening his body
- Since Bal lost his arm the moment before he got turned he had to kickbox and headbutt
- Ballister had to hold her in her sleep to stop her from jumping ambrosius, because her hatred for ambrosius was so bad it made her do sleep walking. And it always ends up with ambrosius getting choked in his sleep, one of them has to wake nimona up before she could successfully kill ambrosius
- Eversince the night that Bal got turned, Nimona became super protective and clingy. Like whenever Bal's out of the box, she'd always holds on to him, big or small
- Like any Parent or Elder sibling, Bal often worries for Nimona, but he fully supported her in becoming a demon slayer just to restore his humanity
- During night time, when Bal's awake, he makes sure Nimona's fed, bathe, takes her medication, and well rested. He still wants to look out for her moee than ever now that she's a demon slayer
- Bal would often scold Nimona by pulling their ear if she does anything rude, reckless or stupid
- Ambro adores Bal being smol and tiny that he always cuddled him as much as he could, even if he has to deal with Nimona's wrath. Infact everyone else adores Smol Bal
- You may think Bal's hair would smell awful through the growth but actually, he washes his hair everynight. Ambro just desperatly wanting to smell his wavy locks
- Anyone who dares to hurt or insult Bal, Nimona would either beat the shit out of them, like the scene when Bal got insulted for being ugly, She'd beat the shit out of them like there's no tomorrow
- Throught the arcs Bal's hair had grown longer, so Bal's shoulder length from the District arc, elbow length at the Swordsmith arc.
- Nimona always ties his hair not because he's one armed but she enjoys to do so, braiding, halfbun, and or ponytail, she'd even put flowers and pins on it, this will make Ambrosius crazy for Bal.
- If anyone's nice to him or anyone Bal cares about he'll pat your head as affection, if it's Nimona, she'll chop anyone's head off for you.
- Based on the Manga, the perverted tailor gave Bal a uniform that shows his tiddies, and ass, that it made Ambro nosebleed and Nimona burst into flames just to give Bal a decent one
- Since the death of Val and the orphans, she became so overprotective and quite clingy to Bal that if she can't find him in 10 minutes she bawls like a lost girl who can't fond her daddy, until she spots Bal and rans into him.
- From @long-distance-muse The night Ambro met Bal, he secretly starting writing love poems, haikus, songs and drafted wedding vows to
- At night when Ambro sleeps, he always dreams of him and Bal getting married and frolic through the flowers just like Zenitzu and Nezuko in the Train arc.
- For those who wants to know how Ambro got his a hair colored, the ideas from @mvjerbs during the becoming, Ambro must attend the ritual in order to began his demon slayer career, then he stands on the rock, he thought he'll get his hair dyed but his mom explained that it's not dyed just changed. Cause the lightning will change his hair color, once the lightning strucks him. Once his hair was blonde the family cheered and tend to carry Ambro to continue the celebration.
- I had this super cute senario, when Ambro was cuddling Bal in his smol body, he had to look around to check if Nimona's around and once the coast is clear, he gently kisses Bal's forehead and continues to do so until Nimona burst into the room pulling out her Katanna and chases Ambro down.
- Nimona had to make sure Ambro isn't in the same hot spring with Bal.
- Ambrosous would chase Bal, calling him "BALLISTER CHAAAAAAANN!!" Over and over with glee😙😚🤤🥰☺☺😙😚🥰🤤.

S10 Loser's Bracket Round 1
friendship in solitude
cw: bullying, suicide implication, spoilers
ever since he was a child, K has been shunned. everyone at school saw his ideas as dangerous, and him as weird. A is in the same boat. their way of dressing was thought to be weird since childhood, too. at home, K had his mother and the kid next door, and A had their family. but at school, both were alone. until junior high school.
one time, in junior high, A went up to the rooftop for "no reason", and found K. the two became friends, and when they were at school, they would meet on the rooftop. they kept each other alive. while they were alone for the most part, they had each other. everyone else thought of them as freaks, but they thought of each other as friends.
however, K was a year older, and so eventually, he graduated from junior high without A. that year was awful for both of them. A would go to the rooftop, and remember… their only friend had already graduated. K wasn't better off, as nobody in his new school would be friends with him, either. they were both back were they started: friendless. shunned. alone.
the year had passed, and a new one began. A had now graduated from junior high. K moved schools. it just so happened that they were now in the same high school. they'd changed quite a bit in that year, but now, they had each other once again. they had other friends, as well, but what's important is that, while they were still seen as weirdos by some, they had reunited with the one who had once been their sole comfort at school.
ppl plzr
cw: manipulation, toxic relationships
A and B are friends and have been for a while. B is hopelessly devoted to A and A only cares about his own dreams and ambitions to become a public speaker. A ruins B's life by taking advantage of his loyalty and leaves B with nothing. responding with almost complete apathy at his grief.
they eventually drift apart but after A is in a dire situation and needs help he contacts B and quickly bursts into B's stable life and turns it on it's head to chase his dreams from years ago. B at first protests, but he does not really have a backbone when it comes to A and eventually the fire he has for a right to live his life mellows out as he decided to just go along with what A wants. A eventually flies too close to the sun, but B is the only one affected as a laves him behind and he presumably dies. A is “heartbroken”, but it's only a facade as he quickly continues with his plans as if nothing happened since B was only a tool for him and he had gotten everything he could from him.
but B didn't die, he escaped by the skin of his teeth and is now left feeling betrayed as he is alone for days. he decides after all of this he is cutting all contact with A, but right as it's about to happen he gets an enlightenment and decides all the bad A has done to him was a necessary evil, which is just a subconscious coping strategy as he really has nothing else as A has taken everything from him, including his pride. nevertheless he is invigorated to continue.
we find, though, that A has died while B was gone. and B is left to pick up the pieces. all of A's responsibilities has been put onto him and he is now in charge of A's legacy. and everything in his life, once more comes crashing down on him. all because of his devotion to A

Okay, someone tell me if I sound stupid or if I'm wrong anywhere, but I think I have an idea surrounding the crossover game.
***Spoilers for the entire Professor Layton series****
Okay, a bit of context/setup: The crossover, as I've heard it, happens between Pandora's/Diabolical Box and Unwound Future. Meaning: Miracle Mask, Azran Legacy, and Diabolical Box have all happened by the time Professor Layton meets up with Phoenix Wright. Hear me out:
Randall "died," came back, then wrecked hell for Monte Dor and Layton, nearly killing Luke. Leon was kidnapped when Layton was young, the next time Layton talks to Leon, Leon's manipulating him by threatening his adopted parents. Layton was adopted away from Descole when he young, the next time they saw each other, Descole's chasing him and throwing debris at him on a massive machine.
See a pattern? He's had several important people get snatched out of his life, only for them to come back and try to hurt him. Now, think about this: Besides Emmy and Sycamore, who were betraying him the whole time they were with him, what adult friends has Layton had to accompany him on his adventures?
...Exactly. Now, I'm sure Layton has adult friends outside of his adventures. Dr Schrader, Luke's parents, Dean Delmona, his colleagues and students at Gressenheller. But how many of those people have gone on crazy adventures with him, probably not many. Where does that change? Phoenix Wright.
And what happens in the third case of the crossover? Layton believes Phoenix is about to die, he goes running to save him, and then Layton "dies." Okay, look, hear me out: Layton didn't know that Phoenix was okay. As far as he was concerned, Phoenix was dead.
And then you know what Phoenix did? He looked after Luke and Espella. Gave Luke compliments, was empathic towards him even as he testified against Maya, lifted Luke's spirits when he turned them down the wrong path and landed them in the wrong place. Volunteered to go in the fire cage so Luke and Espella wouldn't have to, though Luke ended up doing it in the end. He did his best to solve Layton's "murder". Ended up solving the case that they needed to solve in order to solve Labyrinthia.
And you know what he did after he came back to Layton? He helped out the best he could, was genuinely happy to see him okay. AND GET THIS.
GET. THIS.
Even when Layton took the opposite side of the court to Phoenix, and hadn't had time to explain why, Phoenix still didn't treat him like crap. Even when he probably felt like Layton was betraying him, Maya, and Espella he still cooperated. They both still worked together.
I think that, even before the Bezellla trial when they went against each other, Layton was still, though he wasn't showing it, nervous that Phoenix was going to turn on him. And when he didn't in the first place, but especially after he didn't in the Bezella trial, Layton very relieved, and also very thankful towards Phoenix for not only not trying to murder him, but also for still valuing and respecting him.
Case and point: I think Phoenix holds a very special place in Layton's heart, for those reasons.
Do this all sound off the mark? Be real with a brother here.

I was going to make a case for a mdzs!tma au but then it came to me, tgcf!tma
Spoilers for both series under the cut. Major spoilers. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Xie Lian who is Jun Wu's version of Jonah Magnus's Jon. Someone puppeteered to be touched by ever major fear.
Xie Lian's The Buried? See Guoshi Fangxin being buried
Xie Lian's The Corruption? Human-Face disease
Xie Lian's The Dark? Not seeing the sun for a century would do it.
Xie Lian's The Desolation? When his temples and statues were destroyed, his legacy torn and burned.
Xie Lian's The End? He has truly been surrounded by so, so much death.
Xie Lian's The Eye? His very public fall from grace.
Xie Lian's The Flesh? Also Human Face disease! And all the other body horror he's seen in general.
Xie Lian's The Hunt? Bai Wuxiang chasing him down and swooping in when he's most vulnerable. Also just. His own monster of the week hunting.
Xie Lian's The Lonely? Remember when he said a malovent spirit tried to drive him mad and Xie Lian welcomed it because it was some company? Yeah.
Xie Lian's The Slaughter? "It hurts."
Xie Lian's The Spiral? The amount of times he has been made to doubt his own mind. (Re: When Xie Lian considered that Bai Wuxiang could be his own soul).
Xie Lian's The Stranger? Bai Wuxiang.
Xie Lian's The Vast? He's always made to feel insignificant.
Xie Lian's The Web? Once again, Bai fucking Wuxiang and Jun Wu.
Honorable mention to The Extinction being the human face disease (notably when XL was ready to unleash it)
I know that the fears back then were probably not as concrete as when tma is set but i just thought it was interesting! I could totally see a modern au of this too at the good old Magnus Institute. If Jonah Magnus takes over the body of a Chinese man is that him being lowkey racist?
Also when Jon went all paranoid in s2 and drove everyone away- XL after his first banishment. I can see it so clearly I swear.
Also, Hua Cheng was touched by the fears too;; right? Completely unintentionally. (Buried: Mount Tonglu, Corruption: Butterflies maybe? could also just he HFD again, Dark: He's probably spent years hidden in temples without a candle so he doesn't get caught, Desolation: 33 gods, End: He's died like;;; thrice? good enough, Eye: probably being bullied for his eye and wanting people to stop looking at him so he can disappear or how he could only watch as people drove a blade into xl's chest, Flesh: He tore his eye out and put in a sword for heaven's sake and just;;; ghost city vendors, Hunt: He's got that Prey turned Predator smugness, Lonely: Must I explain this., Slaughter: Tonglu probably but he's seen a lot more than that, Spiral: Def has been on the verge of going insane multiple times and doubting his memories, Stranger: ghosts shenanigans prolly, Vast: Falling at the parade, Web: he created his own trap for the 33 gods).
So this royally fucks up plans and boom love wins.

What was the yangchen scene that infuriated you so much?
I'm glad you asked!
(I say as if I didn't leave that last one as bait.)
But I'm warning you, the explanation is going to be underwhelming for my level of rage. I'm just so sick of this kind of thing. Spoilers below the cut for both Dawn and Legacy.
In Dawn, the weapon Yangchen had been chasing the whole book turns out to be a trio of Combustion Benders working for the villain. This is treated as something completely unheard of, and no one is even capable of speculating how it might be possible.
In Legacy, Yangchen follows up on this and eventually tracks down the training site for the Combustion Benders. It turns out that the villain hadn't just been trying to churn out Combusters, she was training and researching several different possibilities. Yangchen doens't learn the full extent of what was going on there, but she does encounter the following:
The Combustion Benders
A girl whose bare-handed blows can incapacitate limbs and disable Bending
A chamber with a shackling chair and the remains of a circular metal track that would allow something to travel around the chair; elsewhere in the book, the villain speaks a code phrase and brings a reluctant subordinate completely under her control, compelled to follow her every command
Just- would it have been too much to have one slushing thing that wasn't taken from Aang's adventures? I'm almost surprised there weren't a pair of hook swords at the site or something about lightning-bending or lightning-redirection! By the time Avatar fiction is finished and the franchise is finally dead, do you think there will be one single thing in all of AtLA that won't have its history revealed in a story about a previous Avatar? Just like how everything Korra experiences needs to be explained in a story about the maturing gAang, everything in AtLA needs to be tossed out as chum for fans who can't be trusted to just enjoy a good story.
Combustion Bending can't have just been something that happened over there, it had to be part of Avatar History (TM). Chi-blocking can't just be a rare skill, it had to have been developed by a think tank run by an Avatar's arch nemesis. And Koh forbid Long Feng or the Dai Li actually invented some aspect of their brainwashing themselves- no, it turns out they lifted everything, right down to using a light on a circular track, from a textbook that was written four to five hundred years before they were born.
It's just so, so tiring. It's one thing when the garbage has to toss out this kind of fan-service in order to distract from its terrible character writing, but why does even the good stuff like the Yangchen novels have to devolve into this lack of creativity? It adds nothing to the story and took me straight out of what should have been a harrowing scene.
But Loopy, you say, what harm does it do? Lots of people like to have their fans serviced in this way, so maybe this is just a You thing, and it doesn't necessarily hurt the stories it's in just because Gene Yang was terrible at it.
Well, 'you,' I'd say that it actually does do harm, even in the hands of a good storyteller like F.C. Yee. See, one of best parts of this franchise is the sense of history it evokes. In most fantasy, thousands of years can whizz by with no change in culture, geography, language, technology, or education. But in Avatar, things change. The Fire Nation wins wars by developing new weapons. The Water Tribes go up and down in health and power depending the conditions of the world. A whole new nation is developed as a result of colonization, which itself spurs rapid development of technology. When we jump back to the beginning of time, the very world itself is made to look like a moving historical painting. And, as we increasingly explore the franchise, we find that each Avatar comes of age mostly by dealing with the problems left behind by their predecessors.
And every time something from AtLA or LoK is shoved into contrived circumstances in another era so we can have a pointless fan service moment, we chip away at that unique aspect of this franchise. We make each era more like all the others, so that no matter what Avatar you're dealing with or what era of history you're in, there will always be a Chi Blocker (TM). It takes something we all fell in love with due to its uniqueness and turns it into a formula. Instead of a scene that works by itself, we have a round of Spot The Reference.
And it happens in so much fiction these days. People used to make disparaging jokes about how every character in Star Wars, even the stupid nameless walk-on roles, has their own book. But at least it was their own book, and not the story of how it turns out Anakin Skywalker was best friends with this random alien decades before they randomly walked across his son Luke's path. We measure a storyteller's suitability to contribute to a franchise based on how much of a fan they are, not because being a fan might lend them insight into what made that franchise great in the first place, but because they can pack their stories full of continuity so that it turns out the entire history of an entire world turns on 20 people spread across a single family tree by the time subsequent generations are done marrying each other.
I'm just so sick of it. And being ambushed by it in 'Legacy of Yangchen' just made me groan, especially since I was enjoying the story so much.
Please, let's have a little self-respect as fans, okay?
...
I warned you this was going to be underwhelming.

Here we go! Breakfast Tea's (vaguely) coherent Survivor Thoughts!
Spoliers under the cut. You have been warned.
Cal - HOW MUCH TRAUMA CAN YOU PUT ONE PERSON THROUGH?!?!?! My heart aches for him. When the game tells you to use his dark side powers in the third act, I absolutely refused, hoping the game would auto-continue because I refused to engage. NOPE! NO CHOICE. And okay, yeah, it was A LOT of fun but ow ow ow ow ow. He needs SO MUCH TIME to heal. The end of the game hit so hard because it feels so heavy and uncertain. We don't leave off with Cal feeling hopeful for the future. He admits he's scared, oh, and by the way, STILL TAPPED INTO THE DARK SIDE. Throughout the whole story, he just goes and goes and takes blow after blow, and then it ends with him hearing Cere. Watch me write fanfic set after the game in which I send Cal off on his own because REASONS. Ahem, anyway!
CANON JEDI CANNOT COOK AND ALSO DRINK TEA, THANK YOU.
BD-1 - BD remains the best droid. The BEST. He is always there for Cal, and he's so happy to see Cordova. And when he hugs Cal after Cere dies? *sobbing* Also, it did NOT escape my notice that the option to EMBRACE THE DARK SIDE comes up after Bode punts BD across the chamber. I LOVE THIS LITTLE DROID SO MUCH.
Echoes - I love how the echoes work in this game. The entire quest starts out partially because Cal finds an echo. Some echoes are visualised, and you can re-experience them, which is nice to see in canon. Cal also walks through Dagan's memory which intrigued me. Basically, they remain completely integral to both Cal and the wider narrative.
Also, as a game, it is just a lot of fun to play. There are puzzles that make you feel clever for solving them. Combat was fun and exciting, I loved all the lightsaber forms, and I have learned that I am over-reliant on Slow in JFO. Honestly, it's all still buzzing in my head. I need to replay it at a much slower pace now that I can relax about spoilers.
The Mantis Crew - While I knew they would've all gone their separate ways, it was still a lot to take in. It makes sense to me (Greez isn't cut out for this, Merrin wants to see the galaxy, and Cere's longing to reclaim the Jedi's legacy), and I'm glad everyone got together eventually, but I missed their vibe... At least we got flashbacks!
Cere - Absolutely devastated at her loss. She was Cal's mentor and therefore basically doomed by Star Wars law (she's the Obi-Wan), but it absolutely destroyed me. And it destroyed Cal, too. Cal, who was hanging by a thread for so much of this. Losing her, and the way he lost her, was too much for him. I wanted to see more of her SO MUCH, but I understand why we didn't. Ooof, I'm not getting over that anytime soon. I got my wish to play as her (and yes, she's WAY stronger than Cal), but... but...
Bode - I had a strong feeling he would betray Cal, but I had no idea WHY. It was a really nice touch and worked really well. His motivations make perfect sense, and they aren't some galaxy-bending quest to rule over others - he's just a father desperate to protect his daughter. I *love* how this series tells personal stories in the midst of such *literal* spectacle. Cal chasing after him, everything that's happening because Bode's a traitor... ow, ow, ow, ow, ow. And then the end, when Cal kills him to save himself and Merrin? GoodBYE. Oh, and now I'm walking around finishing up missions and there are NEW ECHOES EVERYWHERE that come from Bode.
Cordova - WHAT?!?!?! I screamed, I cried, first when he turned up, and then again when he died. Agony. I am in AGONY. I can barely think about the game right now without breaking down. Also loved the reference to Qui-Gon Jinn, although I also think that makes Cordova a lot younger than I've been headcanoning? Oh well!
Merrin - She remains so much fun. Her and Cal's relationship wasn't what I wanted, but it was handled well enough. The whole fight with the two of them against the giant drill was AMAZING. I absolutely loved the visualisation of her warping power. Oh, and when they take shelter from the sandstorm, and she holds his hand while he's having a nightmare? Perfect. While I would've preferred the two of them remaining friends, them being together doesn't bother me too much.
Greez - he is just so worried for Cal. HE MADE UP A ROOM FOR CAL IN HIS CANTINA AND MAKES HIM TAKE A NAP AND THEN WAKES HIM UP LIKE OLD TIMES YES I AM ALREADY COOKING UP A FANFIC FOR THIS I CAN'T HELP IT. I love how he's always checking in with Cal, making sure he's okay, telling him VERY firmly it is not his fault when Cere dies. Oh no, here I go again, can't stop crying...
Koboh - I love that town and building it up. I'm nowhere near finished yet, and in no rush to do so.
Finale - it took me a while to really sit and take that ending in. In recent years, we've become so used to second parts of trilogies not really having dark and uncertain endings that it really hit me how bleak it initially feels. We are leaving Cal still mourning, still struggling with his own darkness, still hurting... and that works. It works because he isn't finished growing and learning. He's a survivor, but he's a long, long way from thriving. The ending fits. It hurts. Everything hurts. But that story got the only ending that fit how dark it is.
Hey. Hey, Sequel Trilogy. THIS IS HOW YOU TELL A COHESIVE STORY ACROSS MULTIPLE PARTS.
HATE VADER'S REDEMPTION EVEN MORE THAN I ALREADY DID, THANK YOU.

Forewarning, y'all: 2023 has been a crap year for me so far and I was really looking forward to the new Rogue and Gambit series for some smiles and nostalgia...and instead I'm just—
(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
Spoilers under the cut.
*cracks knuckles* Gonna pick this apart like a Chesapeake blue.
Tumblr media
Ahh, good ol' fashioned Remy humor. This I can get behind, even if he appears to be uncharacteriscally drunk and fighting a bunch of ninjas in what seems to be a back street in the CBD.
Tumblr media
Oh, silly me. That's the Thieves Guild. Wait wait, hold on a minute here...
Tumblr media
The last time we saw these bozos was when Gambit laid down a monster ass kicking and reminded them all why he is their King. What the...how the...
Tumblr media
I'm so sorry for your loss of credibility, Remy. Also, Rogue's bitchyness already has me cringing at how the Gambit-only fans are gonna use this to stoke the flames of their anti Romy rhetoric. Sigh. Didn't even get one panel of spunkiness or smartass comments out of her first. Please don't hate on our girl, y'all. I swear she's way cooler than this in the right hands.
Tumblr media
Are you kidding me right now? Remy Lebeau, infamous French Quarter local who has decades worth of Mardi Gras drinking under his belt, is a lightweight? Has anyone at Marvel ever actually BEEN to New Orleans?!
Tumblr media
I'm gonna go with 'no'. For one thing, Cajun French is very different from French French. IE: 'Mon' is masculine. I learned that in 10th grade French class. Might as well call your wife Bruh, my dude.
Tumblr media
I would think the KING OF THE THIEVES GUILD would be well known enough to warrant a decent table and not be kicked out. And since when has Rogue cared what her teammates think of her?
This is a minor gripe, but why not reference a real restaurant? Is it lazy writing or Disney mandated genericness to avoid a libel lawsuit? They used Tujague's when the Professor recruited Gambit to help him find Rogue back in X-Men Legacy #224. Antione's, Brennan's, Muriels, Court of Two Sisters: Any one of them would bring a bit of realism. FFS, use Saints & Sinners if only to give us a laugh (that's a Channing Tatum joke right thar).
Speaking of realism, I guess it's cool to wear your not-at-all obvious and flashy uniforms all the time now, including during a public date. You know... 'cuz us dumbass readers can't tell who is who without visual cues. From the 90's.
Tumblr media
Blind jokes. Cute.
Yes, trust your mothers implicitly, Rogue, with zero questions asked. It's not like either of them has stabbed you, shot you and tried to drive off your husband multiple times, or written sketchy diaries that led you and a bunch of teammates on a world-wide wild goose chase or anything.
Tumblr media
I really lost interest once the narrative switched to Manifold. Don't know who he is, don't care.
Tumblr media
Oh noes, not the powers! How will our merry mutants ever defend themselves?! How convenient of those baddies!
Ugh. At least the art is more tolerable than those doll face expressions in Mr & Mrs X. I miss Kelly Thompson.
You know what I blame for this incredibly generic, thoughtless characterization? X-Men the Animated Series.
Rogue's been an angry whiner and Gambit's been a third-person-talkin' joke ever since that show came out (feel free to argue with me on this point). Younger writers who grew up watching it and NOT reading the comics have no clue how nuanced these characters actually are. That's not to say that older writers are any better (don't even get me started on Claremont's romantic-interest-fridging, 'state the obvious in every single panel', "I refuse to read anything I didn't write and therefore disregard established canon" bullshit Gambit series).
I hate to say I'll buy the rest of this series, but money is the only language the Mouse®️ understands and I want my favs to stay front and center.
This rant definitely isn't what I had in mind during the penultimate Romy time of the year ಠ_ಠ
Thank the Gods for fan-fiction, and thank you @roguegambitweek for giving us a whole week of wonderful alternatives to this crud.

What are your thoughts on TotK so far?
[spoiler alert obviously don't keep reading if you don't want this]
-Gloom hands are the absolute best I love them so much never stop being horrible
-Gleeoks are nice. good to see them again. like the new look.
-Admittedly not completely wild about the fuse system but Kohga attacks you with a car and it's fun to watch people build all the looney tunes contraptions people make
-Can't believe they finally dropped Zelda's fursona only to make it a dimension of torment for her. I love the light dragon but can't Zelda have a dragon break rather than a dragon breakdown.
-In seriousness with the fake Zelda running around it could be an interesting twist if everyone believes the light dragon is hostile because it keeps randomly dive-bombing people while a Zelda who is lucid but unable to communicate is trying to chase people away from her impostor.
-Related to a prior point I like to think the Koroks kind of enjoy being yeeted. they're prankster forest spirits. this has to be at least a little bit fun.
-I'm not keen on Kilton in the first place and I don't think we needed Kilton 2: Worse Kilton. I don't like how every NPC in TLOZ that doesn't look completely conventionally attractive is increasingly signaled as either an evil overlord or a funny idiot you shouldn't respect or take seriously. I do not want to watch these clowns dance for me as a reminder to not take any sort of interest in monsters seriously. This is a vibes based thing and is not limited to the designs. I feel like you could keep those designs as-is and salvage the vibes but I'm not quite sure how.
-Narratively, Tears of the Kingdom feels suffused with a specific kind of old man sadness that he is No Longer Hip With The Kids (and this is not gender-specific but the predominant gender of the mouthpieces it is given ingame must be noted) without making any concessions to what The Kids actually care about so Rauru is here because they heard you didn't like Rhoam so now there's a super cool hip with-it dad who never yells at Zelda but also just like Rhoam his actions amount to failing her at a critical moment, leaving her alone to suffer, and then coming back as a ghost to implicitly give Link Daddy's Blessing to marry Zelda.
I want to like Rauru way more than I do because the Zonai's designs are fantastic, but I feel like the depiction of these "Sky Gods" and their role in history ends up patronizing the hell out of both the Zonai and everybody else, but especially the non-hyrulean vassal states where the Zonai are made out to be needless fairy godmothers when they have all the hallmarks of a dying people 10,000 years ago, we can only imagine Rauru's legacy was whitewashed to hell and back considering how central Hyrule positions its non-Hylian allies, But Then Also the Zonai are so beautiful and smart they created everything with their inherent superiority and if the gerudo, zora, gorons, or rito have any meaningful cultural legacy no they didn't the Zonai did this for/with them.
Also can we please not physically put the arm of the king with its power to command things and space on Link's body. This feels like a twofer desecrating Rauru even further by disembodying him down to only the useful part of him and also literally making Link just a bodily platform for the King's Authority. no we're not gonna empower YOUR hand we're gonna hack it off while you're unresponsive to make room for the real kingly authority. We've been doing this since Wind Waker and the quiet part feels like it's getting louder.
-I love Gloom I love the Depths. on the one hand yes they could afford to be a little more Actual Cave Like but as it is it kind of sends the vibe of like, a prior surface that sunk downward into the earth. The idea of moving up as well as down, this sort of heaven-and-hell motifs, are kinda great.
-As afraid as I was of this version of Ganondorf being made out to be a puppet/pawn/disciple of Demise I was actually very, very pleased to see the man just straight up eat Demise's lunch in every conceivable way. Even his demon king form which feels the closest to aping Demise replaces the primal pyroclast vibes with that saturated blood color. Demise feels like a primal titan- Ganondorf feels like a Persephone stained with the fruits of the underworld. I love his designs I love his vibes I love what they did with him. This is SUCH a good return to 'letting Ganondorf be a person rather than a screaming rage cloud'.
Literally the only thing I don't like is I think his tiny dinky oni horns are silly and he didn't need them. that's it.
-I mentioned Kohga but I'm so glad Kohga just decided that since he fell down a hole he Lives There Now.
-the like likes are excellent. If you are sensing a pattern here it's that I'm very fond of the creature design. You begin to see why I'm frustrated with Kilton and Kilton 2: Worse Kilton. Just let me hang out with the horriblins. have you seen them.
-Ok I don't really like that they had a "here, idiot, this is how you make a functional weapon" angle to giving Conspicuously Weapon Shaped horns on all the main monsters so you can just harvest them to make spears or hammers or such. This is part of the part of Fuse I'm not keen on.
-did we really need zonai device gachapons. they were not being at all subtle about how toyetic this new mechanic was, to the point of it feeling kinda immersion breaking. how seriously are we supposed to take this. Zelda is over there doing the anime fisheye stare. This is the last surviving legacy of a dead people. We are capable of recreating the Guardian Massacre from BOTW onto random blins now. But whee. Car go brrrr.
-TLOZ Please Stop Adding Gimmick Robot Characters That Obviously Have Feelings But Are Also Slavishly Bound To A Purpose Long After It's Useful To Anyone And Were Made That Way By Heroic Guys We Are Supposed To Root For And This Isn't Framed As A Problem, and other songs by Fall Out Boy,
-Yona is a good character and I like her, Sidon is allowed to be bisexual
-this isn't unique to TOTK or originating there but I have a little petty rage in my heart that goron rock food is just... comedy cartoon meat but made of rocks. I hate it. expose us to an entirely alien concept of cuisine. Make me yearn to eat bismuth knowing my human limitations would fail me. I was thinking about this the entire Marbled Rock Roast plot.
WHAT IS THERE TO ROAST
IT'S ROCKS
HEAT CANNOT ALTER THE PROPERTIES OF ROCKS WITHOUT EITHER MELTING THEM OR TURNING THEM INTO A WHOLE DIFFERENT ROCK
-I think Evermeans are good and we should live in fear of resource-useful setpieces more often. there should be hostile jar mimics next. Wind Waker had enemies popping out of jars but also you could get the drop on them by breaking the jar like normal, and that fails the mimic test of "am I now afraid to perform Ordinary Actions in places I'm not sure are safe"

Ch 87 is out on Webtoon Fast Pass and uh. Words.
(I need a spoiler warning banner gif or something. Anyway, spoilers galore)
As usual I have nothing that makes coherent sense or contains proper punctuation.
All I got is blubbering over how humble these two leads are and how much they doubt themselves in their pain and how much good they still do in spite of it and how many more chapters to go (even beyond That One Chapter I lost sleep over) before they fully realise how well they suit each other-
....okay before Perry realises how well they suit each other.
Also, I am dying to know her stepmother's deal. Clearly Count Zahardt wasn't perfect, but saying shit like "only the faint-hearted follow illusions"* is RICH coming from her when she attempted to achieve her goals (whatever those are) by poisoning her husband (an extremely untenable - thus illusory - method). In fact, all of Perry's childhood memories of her so far have been laced with some sort of strange edge, as if this woman has resented Perry from the beginning. I know money is a huge motive but is that the only driving force behind such hatred?
So what was it really? Jealousy over the previous Countess Zahardt? Resentment against Perry's father for his (according to her) overzealous charity and her greed for more? All of the above?
Perry sure got the brunt of it, considering this one single memory brings up doubts like:
1. If the countdom grew poorer because my father just kept helping others, then that means I could be the cause of the Lapileons' downfall too since they have been helping me constantly
2. Aren't I then also neglecting those around me, like my own countdom and my uncle? Also doesn't that mean just being here instantly brings more trouble to a place that already contends with so many other problems? Even Gloria doesn't live in the manor so as not to overburden their staff and supply run
3. Was my poor father such a fool as my stepmother said? Was the man I loved best in the world really so unworthy?
4. I'm also a fool to 'chase an illusion', to think that I could ever be capable enough to continue my parents' work and legacy when I can barely do anything on my own.
In Perry's mind, it doesn't matter how quickly she learned to help with the Lapileons' household paperwork, how much she's done to bring Celphi out from his shell and how well she manages herself in noble social circles, how she gave Saoirse reason to believe in others again, how she proved to Gloria that she was quick and justified at pointing out flaws in the staffing system of the family, how she essentially rescued Islette and probably countless others from Gen - how she constantly gives Theo reasons to live, rather than just exist.
All of that pales in comparison to watching Theo succeed at seemingly Everything, while she... doesn't. That perfectionist viewpoint that she arguably received from her stepmother makes her so vulnerable to this self doubt.
But now he's actually, and very rationally, putting things into perspective, not just to make her feel better but because it's all true. It's not his talent and discipline alone that sustains the Lapileon estate. He too has received much help, and crucially, while his grandfather was a complete monster, his grandmother, uncle and siblings weren't. Comparatively, Perry only has one trustworthy uncle and no such influence/power/wealth as the Lapileons. Implicitly, to have come this far on her own speaks volumes of her strength and courage (not that she would even notice it herself)
In any case, now not only is Theo capable and successful, he's proven himself humble (humble!), and clearly grateful for her by actually vocalising it.
I love this conversation so much because Theo is gentle without being patronising, and reasonable enough that Perry can't help but see the logic. He also seems to have learned from his previous fit of anger that this woman needs coaxing. She has trust issues as numerous as his own, so he can't brute force his way into her confidence.
But they are so similar, it's wonderful to see him immediately on the same page, immediately recognising her doubts because he's probably had similar thoughts growing up. He was made grand duke after his older brother died and sister incapacitated by grief. He too must live up to a legacy left behind by people he respects and loves. There are huge shoes to fill for him too.

You did this to yourself Pereshati LMAO
