A cult managed to access and subsequently mess around with Gothams Lazarus pit and summoned Desiree. The genie promptly broke out of whatever summoning circle she was in and started causing chaos by granting wishes.
Of course she was attracted to the Wayne manor, thinking about the tragedy that had happened to her in life. She was in luck, too! Bruce Wayne was upset. Appearently a few of his children couldn't make up to Thanksgiving dinner, one was avoiding him outright, and he made a mistake.
He told the butler, "I just wish all of my kids were here for Thanksgiving." She liked that wish and would gladly grant it.
"So you have wished it, so shall it be!"
Both the men spun around, but it was too late. Purple smoke filled the room and clouded oround them. The smoke cleared almost as quickly as it came, leaving them coughing and looking around for the mysterious woman who had seemingly vanished.
----
Danny jumped out of the chair he had suddenly found himself in. Huh. He didn't recognize this room, but it was decorated with stuff he liked and even stuff he knew was his. It was almost like he had decorated the room himself, but that wasn't possible. He was in Mr. Lancers math class taking a test just a minute ago! Where was he now?
Deciding to peek out his door, he was met with his clone Ellie and another girl who introduced herself as Helana Wayne. They were just just ask confused as he was, but at least Helena knew where they were.
The Wayne manor, her fathers home. Danny wasn't pleased to know he was in a billionaires mansion but decided to keep his opinion to himself until he could get himself and Ellie out of here. They didn't have to walk long until they got to a staircase where multiple boys were bickering and-was that a katana?
Appearently there was another teen named Terry here with someone named Matt and three boys seemed to be interrogating him. The guy looked ready to throw them down the stairs. Another guy, Aion was there too but he decided to casually walk down the stares while everyone was distracted.
Danny intervened and politely asked to be returned to school. He was kind of in the middle of a test and his parents were going to kill him if he flunked. This seemed to ease the tension in the room at the very least as thier storry seemed to match up with this Terry guys explanation.
Damian, a rude little gremlin who Danny wanted to punt into the sun within the first five minutes of meeting -something Terry whole heartedly agreed with- snidely said he would lead them to the door and Danny wanted to drag his heels out of spite.
This was how they learned the manor grounds were floating in a bubble in space. Damian growled something about how he was going to make someone pay but Danny was too busy freaking out about **space** to care
----
It eventually came out that Henena was the child of Batman and Catwoman, Danny was adopted and Dani was his clone, so after a DNA test they discovered Helena was thier full sister and the oldest of the pack.
Terry was shocked to find out he and Matt were also Bruce's bio son but was kinda wigging out about it because the implications.
Everyone here was in some form or another, a child of Bruce Wayne, many of whom were from different realities or timeliness. The real problem was that ALL of Bruce Waynes children were here. Or at least one version of them.
Oh.
And it was October 4th. They were stuck here together until Thanksgiving was over. Yay.

late hatching, a Batman Beyond and Batfam concept
I think i made myself clear as mud in my last post that the Batfam as it stands now in the comics does not mesh with the DCAU timeline.
but that doesn't mean the batfam can't come to Terry.
Special thanks to this fic (slice of life where Bruce is younger, has the fam but can't go vigilante anymore so they hire Terry to babysit) https://archiveofourown.org/works/44548396/chapters/112054687
and this series. (Balances dark and light very well, even if the Batfam grow and protect Gotham, Terry still gets the cowl) https://archiveofourown.org/series/1710604
So. Here's Cake #3!!! Ya'll enjoy and if you make something i'd be happy to see it!
TL;DR: Cassandra steals a delayed Damian from the League of Assassins, reunites him with his elderly genetic donor, and decides to stick around. Dick decides that he should probably keep a closer eye on the manor. More people come out if the dark streets of Gotham, ready to fight to keep it safe.
Batman II gains Pranking Auntie Black Bat, Worried Uncles Grayson and Drake, Mob Parents Jason and Roy, the gossipy PIs Signal and Spoiler, and Murder Child Robin. Terry gets an existential crisis, Matt gets a some emotional and physical wounds, and Mary gets some inheritance money.
AKA: Beyond limited capes AU.
From the top, chronologically:
Cassandra lost her chance to train with Batman. He refused, after the Incident with Tim Drake and the Joker. Even though she was a trained fighter, he can't risk it. He can't risk anyone. He points her in the right direction for help and keeps tabs like he does.
Cassandra is adopted by Nightwing and becomes the Batgirl of Bludhaven, eventually Black Bat on her own, focusing on saving other children forced into a life of cloak and dagger.
(Jason Todd was never written into the DCAU shows. He and Tim Drake were condensed for reasons. But let's presume he was there the whole time. They were friends on the streets. He was late trying to help Tim find out what was in the locker. He remembers Robin later trying to help him before suddenly leaving. Overlooked by Batman, thus overlooked by the Joker, the League of Assassins, and heroics in general. But he survived. Saw all of the pain and anger and just decided to run his little piece of Gotham how he likes it. No starving kids. No heroes or villains. Absolutely no Jokerz. Roy Harper comes to break it up but then goes: hey I'm sorry but the Drug Lord just got me clean off drugs so I'm gonna marry him.) They are older gay mob grandpas with their daughter Lian.
Since the Joker is dead, Duke's parents are not affected by the Venom. He still has an interest in vigilantes. He was able to track what happened to Robin. Batman scares him off, but he's still determined to help. So like comics canon, Bruce points him to learning opportunities. He ends up becoming a Private Investigator, of Signal and Spoiler fame.
Batman saves Stephanie Brown from her shot at the cape. They also work closely with Barbara Gordon. Stephanie is also an investigative journalist and busts open several mob and villain rings with the help of Duke, Jason, and silent help from Batman.
Cadmus sees all of these new Robins keep getting denied left and right. Concerned that Batman was needed, they go ahead with Project Batman Beyond.
Bruce discovers this. He creates a false paper trail. A company was illegally creating clones/children of the rich for blood transfusions and organ transplants. And the occasional "long lost heir" con. It was easy enough to add Terry and Matt to the list before exposing them.
Bruce went over to the Mcginnis household with a lawyer and an NDA. Terry and Matt don't have a legal right to the Family Fortune, but they do have a small trust fund to be given when they're 18. (small is relative when you're rich.)
Terry grows up. He gets the job at Wayne Manor. (With Mary's blessing, of course.)
Terry tracks down Dick Grayson and they have a agreement about weekly emails. He never comes to Gotham. (Batman II, fighting Nightwing: PER MY LAST EMAIL-) Dick doesn't show up at the Manor at all. Not until Terry sees him scrubbing the Joker Graffiti off of the Batcave walls.
Now everything after this is post-ROTJ movie.
And then. Damian. The League of assassins has been trying to recreate Batman as well. But all of the clones consistently die around their 8th birthday. So the project was delayed by decades. They accepted a work around with the splicing tech. Damian wasn't originally related to Bruce and Talia. But they overwrote his DNA to truly make him the Heir. They were training him to take over the Batman mantle - he wasn't ready to do it yet, but then Terry as Batman II pops up. Damian is angry. Cassandra is able to sneak in and use that to smuggle him out to Gotham.
so now the Manor starts filling up with Dick, Cass, Damian, and occasionally Tim and Terry gets moved to a less hectic shift. He's bounced off of solo vigilante status and now has to contend with Cassandra and Damian following him around.
The official story is that the Cloning and corporate espionage happened and now Dick Grayson came back to Gotham to help his elderly father raise his clone and handle his affairs. He brought his security detail, Cassandra. Also they get Titus the emotional support dog for Damian.
Mary Mcginnis calls Bruce and renegotiates the terms of the NDA, since the cat's out of the bag. She sits Terry and Matt down and tells them that they're not genetically related to Warren. Terry. Does not take it well. Matt is confused and sad.
Damian hears about this and tries to kill Matt both as a "thing the League trained him to do" and "he's like me why does he get to be happy?" anger and jealousy over his life.
Batman II is seen wrangling a brightly colored child and demanding that he not stab his brother. Matt recognizes the wrangling and figures out who's under the cowl.
There are now officially two Robins. Pray you get the one without a sword.
(that's it it's just Terry adjusting from being a Single Child of Batman to being a Middle Child of the Batfam)

Chapter Eight: No Doubt About It (Terry McGinnis' POV)
I couldn’t fight my way out. My adrenaline wouldn’t let me give up, but my mind knew I was outnumbered. They managed to cage me in. I hit a few of them. I know I did, but it didn’t take long for them to overpower and beat me to a pulp. I thought it would never stop. And then it did. Once my ears stopped ringing, I heard a shout. It was deep and resounding. It was Jason. “No one moves!” Jason shouted.
“No one move,” one of the pumpkinheads mocked.
One of my eyes swelled shut, but I watched him with the other as he knocked kids unconscious left and right. It took him twenty seconds max to take them out, and then he carried me over his shoulder to his car. “You okay, Terry?” Jason asked.
“Jason?” I asked.
“I’m gonna take you to the hospital. The police are on their way, and your school’s cameras caught you running away. You’re not in any trouble,” Jason explained. His voice was softer and calmer than usual. I reached out and grabbed his wrist. “It’s okay. Focus on my voice. That’s all you need to do.”
He started rambling about a castle in a graveyard town and a king with ghosts for children. I couldn’t find any meaning in his words. It seemed like a dark fairytale. I must’ve passed out because I woke up in the hospital with my father holding my hand. “Jason never left your side,” Dad smiled. I looked to my other side, and Jason sat in a chair, fast asleep, holding a little girl.  “Who’s the kid?” I asked.
“He’s a grandfather,” Dad replied, “It’s a shock to me, too.”
Jason sniffed and sat up. “Sorry, I must’ve dozed. Terry, how’re you doing?” Jason muttered, still half-asleep.
“I’ve been better,” I replied, “Thanks for getting me… But—. Where’d you learn to fight like that?”
“It was mostly adrenaline,” Jason whispered, “Next weekend, I’d like to invite you both to dinner at my home. I insist.”
“Oh, Jason. We couldn’t possibly—.”
“It would be comforting for me. Besides, I’ve had an awful day, and it’d be nice to have my friend over for dinner,” Jason interrupted. My dad smiled.
“Well, when you put it that way… Jason, we’ll be there,” Dad replied. Jason groaned as he stood up, still holding his granddaughter.
“See you guys soon. I’ve gotta take my snuggah bug home to eat. Call me whenever,” Jason whispered. He smiled, but it seemed painful.
Jason left me with my dad, and we stared at each other. “Do you think he’s too cool to be my friend?” Dad asked. I smiled. “It makes sense that you guys would be friends. It makes you cooler because he said it first,” I answered. Dad looked at my hand. “I don’t wanna change schools.”
“I know you don’t. How do we make this work?” Dad questioned. It was the first time he ever asked me to make a big decision. I didn’t know what to tell him.
“I have to be more careful… Dad, I—. Do you think there’s something wrong with me?” I asked. He let go of my hand and pushed my bangs out of my face.
“No, Terry… Why would you—? Why would you say that?” Dad questioned. His voice was soft as he failed to hide the concern in his voice. Dad could never hide when something bothered him.
“Dad, when I—. I thought I’d be scared, but I was—. I was so—. I had a rush, even though I knew it was a fight I couldn’t win. I—. You’re looking at me with that face... Something changed between you and me… And it was before I got into trouble. What is it, Dad? What do you see that I can’t?” I asked.
“It’s the opposite, Terry. I don’t know what I see sometimes… And that terrifies me,” Dad answered. He reached for Terry and touched his forehead. “Terry, I love you. That’s all I know for sure. I would do anything for you.”
“I love you too, Dad,” I replied. I didn’t say it enough. I know I didn’t. There used to be a time when I’d say it every time I saw him. Things were better then.
Dad looked at the machine behind my head and sighed. “Your mom’s gonna lose it when she sees your face…”
“Did you tell Mom I was in the hospital?” I asked.
“I had to. Mom’s stuck in traffic, but she’s on her way here,” Dad answered. Great…
“Dad—.”
“Do you remember when you broke your arm when you were six?” Dad interrupted.
“Huh? Yeah… I remember,” I answered.
“I’ve always hated—.” Dad gagged, and I sat up in bed, wincing as I clutched my ribs. “Sorry, I don’t know what I—.” He made cards come out of his mouth, and a nurse passing by chuckled. It was my favorite trick as a kid. I smiled. Afterward, he always took out a handkerchief and wiped his mouth. That was my favorite part.
“You got me,” I smiled.
**
Mom arrived at the hospital in tears. I hated it when she cried. “Mom… Mom, I’m alright,” I reassured her. She hugged me, and I winced.
“Terry, how did this happen?” Mom questioned.
“Dregs caught me off guard at school, and they jumped me… Jason showed up—.”
“Gangs, Terry?” Mom interrupted.
“I’m not in a gang anymore, Mom. You don’t have to worry about that. I promise… This happens sometimes when people leave gangs—.”
“So, when is this gonna end?” Mom questioned. “When they—. When they kill you? Oh god, Terry.” Mom covered her mouth, and Dad stared into space. He always did that when he was overwhelmed. I don’t think it occurred to him that someone could kill me for leaving the gang. Dad was a straight-laced guy… As far as I knew.
“Mom, that’s not gonna happen. Okay? Look at me… No one’s gonna kill me. And I’m not running away,” I replied. Mom couldn’t stop crying, and I wished it would stop.
“Terry, I don’t know—. I can’t—. I can’t calm down,” Mom wept. I squeezed her hand and smiled.
“I’m not going anywhere, Mom,” I replied.
“Jason was there? How did—?”
“I called him,” Dad interrupted. I was surprised to hear his voice. “And he—. He didn’t have a scratch on him.” Dad sounded far away. “Even with his adrenaline pumping—.”
“Yeah, he used to be a cage fighter,” I replied.
“A cage fighter turned mentor?” Mom questioned as she wiped her tears away.
Dad chuckled. “Gotham never changes… Does it?” Dad asked. Mom chewed her lip. “We shouldn’t be surprised.”
I grinned as I shut my eyes. “Jason’s so schway… You should’ve seen it,” I replied. My parents quieted, and I felt my mom’s hand sift through my hair. I knew it was her hand from how cautious she was. I missed seeing my mom. Maybe she missed me too. I hoped she did.
Despite my exhaustion, I couldn’t sleep. I lay still, trying to relax, but my mind kept playing over everything that had happened. Something about Jason made me feel normal. I used to think adults didn’t understand kids, but Jason was different. I believed he knew everything there was to know about me. He knew me —no doubt about it. Jason and I were the same. Or at least he remembered what it was like when he was like me.

This post has me thinking things. So if Terry parent’s actually were assassinated when he was a kid, that would make him about nine in this verse. To match when Bruce was when his parents were killed. Given the age gap between Terry and Matt, if he exists yet he would be a literal actual baby.
So Damian takes custody. And as the successful mayor of Lazarus Island, the retirement community for former child soldiers, he is more than capable of handling the grieving angry mess that is Terry. But Matt? Damian is out of depth. What does one do with a baby?
Enter Jason. A Jason who has been missing since the events of Task Force Z (because screw Gotham, that boy needs a vacation), somehow hearing about his new two youngest brothers (through Talia probably), breaks into Damian’s apartment to see him panicking and proceeds to give a lecture and demonstration on how to properly care for an infant. Damian is baffled, “WTF Jason, where did you come from? Why do you know how to do this? Is there a baby Red Hood somewhere we need to talk about?”

I just UPDATED a fic that I haven't even looked at since 2017 !
-Omega Verse, Future fic, fan kids-
Tim/Kon in Batman Beyond
Powers Technologies is making waves with both Wayne Industries and L-Corp. Tim and Kon's eldest son has been wearing the Cape for almost a year now and wants to take on bigger cases. Jason finds something interesting but he doesn't wanna be the one to tell the rest of the Bat Fam about it, so he makes it Tim's problem.

Family Trees of the Multiverse: Bat Family
The last of my Multiverse Family Trees!
And due to the family's size, it got split into three trees, for clearer visualization. The Wayne/Kane family for one, all the Robins and their parents, siblings and children got their own, and due to Dick's messy multiverse-life, and the fact that the majority of his kids are Babs' kids, Dick and Babs share a third tree.
As always, color-coded. However, due to just how big this family mess is, I'm not listing all the colors. Just the three key colors:
Black represents current Prime Earth continuity, red indicates a character or relation is from the New Earth continuity and orange stands for the Pre-Crisis continuity (-> if it says [New Earth] beneath the character in red but the frame is black, that means the character was first introduced during the New Earth continuity and continues existing; if the frame-color matches the label, then the character is exclusive to that era/Earth).
Some notes for additional clarification since things are MessyTM:
Terry and Matt McGinnis are technically biologically Bruce's children, since Amanda Waller altered their father's DNA into Bruce's. I don't know how to visualize that in a family tree and since they are his adopted children in later comic continuity, they go into the adopted children section.
Usually, when parents have various names throughout incarnation, I just indicate that by color, but in Jason Todd's case, Joe and Trina as the Flying Todds are very different people from small-time criminal Willis and his wife Sheila, so Jason gets two sets of parents on the tree.
Barbara Gordon's backstory is a mess; she was first conceived as the biological child of Jim and Thelma in Pre-Crisis continuity, then became the biological child of Jim's brother Roger and Thelma, who got adopted by Jim and Barbara Eileen and to whom Sarah Essen was a stepmother, however in Gotham Noir, Sarah Essen is her biological mother. Also, Babs has three different middle names - Lee in the Gotham TV continuity, Kathleen in the Killing Joke movie, and as of the Prime Earth continuity, she got the middle name Joan (before that, she was just Barbara Gordon).

Round 3, Match 1: Bruce Wayne vs. Pascal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Submitted kids:
Bruce Wayne: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian and Athanasia al Ghul, Cassandra Cain, Jarro, Stephanie Brown, Barbara Gordon, Terry and Matthew McGinnis, Helena Wayne, Harper and Cullen Row, Duke Thomas (Arguments promised)
Pascal: Village children
Propaganda under the cut!
Bruce Wayne:
1. “Man can't deal with empty nest syndrome and cannot look past an orphan child without adopting them. He takes in Dick when Dick is 12 (he eventually does adopt Dick after Dick is already an adult), after being one of many people to witness Dick's parents die. After Dick went off to do his own thing he met Jason who was living on the streets after his Mom died. After Jason died, Tim shoved his way into Bruce's life saying that Bruce needed a partner in crime solving after Jason's death (Tim still had parents who were alive at this point, they did eventually die and was taken in by Bruce). Cassandra's circumstances I'm not fully clear on but she was raised by her bio dad to be a living weapon and she ran away (from my understanding at least) and Bruce took her in. Duke was taken in after his parents were hospitalized due to a Joker attack and were/are unlikely to recover. Bruce also mentors other children heroes including Barbara Gordon and Stephanie Brown, both are close to his kids and are sometimes seen as under his wing as well, but neither see him as a parent.”
Link to the rest here!
Pascal:
“not putting all of his lore here be of the pg-13 rule but he's this robot who is the sweetest guy imaginable, he is pretty smart cares a lot for his kids (again, cant get TOO into that but he is v/ protective of them) and also is a pacifist who rlly just peace between the androids & machines even tho thats pretty fucking difficult (he even is an ally to the android resistance and trades w/ them frequently!)
from his unit data (because im Bad at describing things lol):
‘A pacifist machine lifeform that despises conflict and strives endlessly for peace with humanity.
This unit possesses incredible intelligence, as well as a deep interest in the history of both humans and machines.’”

Ever see those posts about women having massive babies because their husbands are huge like Hawaiin/secretly Shaquille o neal?. No? Am I the only one who gets all the baby content despite being child free???
ANYWAY I feel like no one talks about the potential of any bio kid of Bruce being massive. Like yeah Bruce is normal sized and so is Damian/Helena/Terry but like what if they weren't? Thomas Wayne was a big dude and he wasn't even a fighter!
Can you imagine Martha carting around 4 month old Bruce who is somehow the size of a 3 year old and she just narrows her eyes at Thomas like this is your fault and Thomas just shrugs because Wayne men are just Like That™
Fast forward to Talia who sees Damian's projected growth and size and is like 'you want me to carry what???? Where?????' and like immediately sets up for him to be a test tube baby cuz ain't no way.
Diana (in that weird timeline where Bruce and Diana have a kid) thinks nothing of it and just has the baby. Both her and Bruce are warriors so naturally their child would be sturdy.
Selina bitches at Bruce every chance she gets because the fuck you mean her toddler is 4 but Helena looks like she in the senior year of high school and the star quarterback???
Terry McGinnis' mom immediately know that something is off because her husband isn't built like that and she has seen baby pictures of him and he wasn't this absolute unit at the age of 42 weeks.
Not that any of them are like fat, just dense and grows fast. Cute babies but tf u mean they are not a year yet and look like a full sized toddler???

So au idea Jason doesn't get adopted by Bruce Wayne but he does get adopted by A Batman....a tomorrow knight.....
So my idea is that somehow Terry mcginnis finds himself in the past of Gotham ( yes I'm going by Dcau continuity so it after after batman the animated series but before the new batman adventures is the time I'm thinking of this time misplaced.) So anyway Terry somehow find himself in crime Ally were he stumbled upon a young Jason Todd is trouble ( can't think if he's getting beat up or chase. You decide of the conflict) Terry being the hero that he is, no matter what time he's in, saves the little punk.
" you ok little guy?" Terry asked after the rescue. Young Jason is obviously ( and reasonably) scared out of his mind. Sure he has heard of the batman on the streets, even seen some photos of him in the newspapers. But batman looked like he was a demon from hell. Young Jason mind was quick change when the not batman gaved him his first real meal is week when he notices Jason stomach growled. ( How did Terry get the food might you ask ? Cause he's batman duh.)
With miraculously avoiding the young batman of the time, Terry does find a way back to his time, But a little someone tags along " come back with a souvenir, I see." The elderly Bruce Wayne says. This confused Terry so he says " what souvenir?" Then the elder Batman point his cane to Terrys leg so were young Jason Todd is hanging off of.
( it a good thing to mention that this is a little after return of the joker so old Timmy todd is here.) everyone is obviously freaking out. A literal child from 40 ish in the past is in their present. Tim recognized Jason Todd as they grew up together in crime Ally and the fact both their dad's worked for two face back in the day. Tim remembers Jason disappearing two weeks after Jasons dad got arrested and a year before he became Robin.
This is bad that means that Jason was ment to be here and if they send him back it could cause a time paradox. The question was now was what to do with the little punk. Tim thinks that Jason should go with him given their history. He's pretty sure that his wife wouldn't mind having an other kid around the house. Barbara even volunteers giving that her and Sam never had kids of their own. But Jason has already got attached to Terry and with won't let go of him, no matter how the other have try. He has already has chosen him emotional support batman. So Terry makes a decision....
Later Dana gets a call from Terry to meet up her at some place. When Dana gets there Terry says " I should of told you this a while ago but I'm batman." And before Dana has time to process this Terry then says " and I've recently become an teen father." Then he pulls out Jason from nowhere. " This is Jason my adoption son." ( "Dana meet our adopted son Jason." Terry probably.) Dana then also adopted Jason seeing that the little guy is so cute. It was also weird when Terry went home to explain to his mom and brother that they were now a grandma and uncle. ( Even when the child was around Matt's age.) max was also surprised with she Heard the story
Bruce legally has custody of Jason, until Terry turn 18 in a couple of months. Bruce is now Jason grandpa in this au and with tim and Barbara are his aunt's and uncles. ( I haven't decided if Jason becomes Terry Robin or not. It's your decision really. But hay at least the joker is already dead if he does)
-----------------------------
*bonus*
Tim: I always thought that Terry brother was going be his first robin. Not I owe dick 50 creds.
Barbara: you make a bet with your brother. Wait dick has never met Terry how does he know that he has a brother.
Tim: he's Nightwing duh
Barbara: of course he is ( facepalm)
Bruce:( is dialing someone)
Barbara: and who are you calling ?
Bruce : Wally West cause now I owe him 100 creds cause me and him make a bet if Terry was ever getting a Robin.
Barbara: ugh ( facepalm again.)

 Richard grayson-12- hero- Robin
 Barbara gordon -11- hero- Batgirl
-The gender bend Damien is caused by my Pinterest.
the mantle Robin is called shadow in this AU
I do know Terry and Matt are mcginnis's but in this one they are just called wayne
The ages that I have applied are just the base ages that I used for my math
If anyone wants to write my AU I give you my permission.
I do know if I'm doing reverse Matt should be older but by the time I realized by mistake I was too far in so just ignore that.-
My reverse Robins AU story
Terry and Matt were originally created due to a super soldier program. That the government used Batman's DNA for. Bruce found them and they were the original children taken in.  Matt is the original one to create the title of shadow. He shares it with Terry.
Anastasia was created the normal way through Talia and Bruce, Alexandria was a biological experiment to be a backup heir. Alex and Matt call each other twins due to being born two weeks apart. Anastasia had already gone on League missions so she had a harder time conforming to the rules but she is very close with Terry while Alex had not gone on any League missions but did have the training.  Anastasia goes by the name Viper which was her League name then it turned into her hero name but she later went back to being an assassin after she killed Joker for Stephanie and got into a fight with her father. Alex shares the name shadow with Matt after Terry takes the name batwing.
Selena got into a lot of trouble and needed to give Helena to Bruce. Bruce only has sole custody for about a year and a half before they do split custody once everything is settled. Helena takes the name Stray to honor her mother. Helena is originally a hero with the rest of her siblings But becomes a thief like her mother after she separates from the family when Stephanie dies due to grief. she does come back.
Carrie is a child vigilante inspired by shadow. She is not adopted until she is 16  when her guardian dies in a car accident. She ends up being quite close with Terry, Helena and Anastasia.
Tim and Stephanie are friends with Matt  and Alex. They go to Gotham Academy together. They are introduced to vigilante life due to a kidnapping accident involving the four. Stephanie still takes the name spoiler and Tim ends up using  the mantle shadow when Alex is injured. Stephanie ends up being the one that dies and Tim was tortured to be Joker junior not even a week after she was killed. due to the torture Tim is wheelchair-bound. Stephanie's death causes a major Rift in the family which leads to Terry, Helena and Anastasia not talking to Bruce. Matt still talks to Bruce but he ends up moving to bludhaven at 17 while Alex stays at the Manor to take care of Cass while Bruce is grieving.Due to Alex being the only one at the Manor She ends up being close to Tim(which I specifically wrote in to be ironic)The League of Assassins do resurrect Stephanie though there is no big reveal due to the fact that Anastasia is working with her mother when Stephanie is Resurrected though she was not in on the resurrection. Stephanie comes back to be red hood and feels detached from the family due to Bruce Kicking Anastasia out for the Joker's death. Tim ends up taking the name Oracle to help Anastasia due to their not being as many vigilantes in Gotham then there was before Stephanie died due to the big fight.
Cassandra has her usual backstory but she's brought into the family before Stephanie is killed. Cassandra ends up taking the name Secret due to her secretly following Batman and the rest of the vigilantes on patrol before she was adopted into the family.
Bruce ends up fostering Duke after failing to save his parents from a joker attack and takes him in due to guilt. Duke is the first one to be taken in after Stephanie's death so there are a lot of funny interactions with him having no idea how the family was before and meeting the older siblings. Duke later finds out about Bruce being Batman and the rest of the vigilantes being his children then takes on the name Signal.
Jason is taken in the same way as before hitting Bruce with the tire iron and everything. Jason ends up being shadow and also being the only Shadow to work Solo due to their usually being two Shadows. Jason is the one that ends up bringing Bruce back from being Lost in Time.
Richard is taken in the same way as well. Richard ends up taking the name Robin to honor his parents instead of the name shadow.Richard is taken in for about half a year before Batman has lost in time.Richard feels very cursed with losing parental figures back to back but he does end up getting very close to Alexandria before Batman comes back.
Barbara becomes friends with Richard at school and later goes out as Batgirl.

MAWS Beyond Theory
-As much as I want to see Batman introduced into MAWS, nobody’s saying it has to be Bruce under the cowl.
-What if there’s a brief time-travel shenanginans-esque episode where a hero from the future arrives?
-The hero: Terry McGinnis, the Batman of 2099!
-But why?
-The trio panic. They’ve heard rumors of how heartless Batman is so they assume the worst. Was he from an apocalyptic future where Clark turned evil? Was he here to off him before that future comes to be? Was this like the General hunting him down all over again?!?!
-But no.
-He’s here to help.
-Bonus: when Terry isn’t in the cowl on a mission, he’s a sassy little shit that revels in messing with all of them, have it be with future slang or offhandedly mentioning crazy events (look, the guy's arch-nemesis is a glow-in-the-dark skeleton & you wanna talk abt creatures in the sewer? He had to save his gf from a rat guy; he has lots of tea).
-The most heartwarming thing? He genuinely tells Clark that he looks up to him not bcz of the cape, but bcz of who he is under it. He sees Clark’s heart instead of Superman’s strength & makes sure he knows that.
-The mission (re: plot) is over & Terry leaves. Jimmy doesn’t stop using ‘schway’ for weeks.
-Fast-forward, Clark meets Terry’s predecessor & wow, he makes Terry look like a sunshine child in comparison.
.
.
.
-Double bonus: Terry returns to his time, in a Batcave where Bruce....and his other kids are. Showing us that in the future, Bruce retired but the family stayed together.

Terry Mcginnis x Fem!Reader ︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
The crisp October air was filled with the scent of fallen leaves and the distant laughter of children planning their trick-or-treat routes. You had always loved Halloween, the one time of year when everyone could be someone else, if only for a night. This year, you had a special surprise for your significant other, Terry McGinnis.
You slipped into your Batgirl costume, the fabric hugging your form like a second skin. The cowl was the final piece, and as you looked at yourself in the mirror, a thrill ran through you. Terry, with his love for all things Batman, would never see it coming.
Meanwhile, Terry was in his room, struggling with a decision. Halloween was complicated for him, given his nightly escapades as Batman. He chuckled at the irony of it all—here he was, trying to choose a costume when he already had the most authentic one at home.
A knock on the door pulled him from his thoughts. “Terry, are you ready yet?” his brother’s voice called out, muffled by the wood between them.
“Just a minute, Matt!” Terry replied, finally settling on a simple Robin costume. It wasn’t the real deal, but it was close enough.
When you arrived at Terry’s doorstep, Matt greeted you first, his eyes wide with excitement. “Wow, you look just like Batgirl, Y/N!” he exclaimed, twirling in his mini Batman costume.  Matt, the mini Batman of the house, was running around, his cape fluttering behind him as he practiced his best superhero poses.
You laughed, ruffling his hair. “And you make a perfect Batman, Matt. Is your brother ready?”
Matt nodded eagerly, and as Terry stepped out, you couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of him in the Robin costume. “I thought I’d keep it in the family,” he said with a grin, taking in your Batgirl outfit.
You teased Terry about his choice of costume. “I never took you for a sidekick,” you said, a playful glint in your eye.
Terry just smiled, a secret dancing behind his eyes. “You’d be surprised,” he murmured, his voice barely audible over the sound of child laughter. Terry’s arm slipping around your waist.
“Happy Halloween, Y/N,” he whispered, and you leaned into him, feeling the contours of his costume against your own.
“Happy Halloween, Terry,” you replied, unaware of the true depth behind his mask, the real hero that stood beside you.
“Alright, team,” you announced, “let’s get these pumpkins carved. Batgirl and her sidekicks can’t have a dull doorstep on Halloween!”
Matt was the first to dive into the task, his small hands scooping out pumpkin guts with a look of fierce concentration. “I’m gonna make the scariest face ever!” he declared, his eyes alight with the excitement that only a child on Halloween could possess.
Terry leaned over to whisper in your ear, “I bet he’s going to give us a run for our money.”
You smiled, taking up your own carving tools. “We’ll just have to step up our game then, won’t we?”
As the three of you worked on your pumpkins, the front porch became a canvas of creativity and laughter. Terry was meticulous in his carving, creating a bat symbol that looked almost professional. You went for a more traditional approach, crafting a grinning jack-o’-lantern that seemed to reflect the joy of the evening.
Matt looked between the two of you, his eyes wide. “You guys are so good at this!” he exclaimed, his own pumpkin taking shape under his determined hands.
“You’re not so bad yourself, little man,” Terry said, ruffling his brother’s hair. “That’s going to be one spooky pumpkin.”
Once the carving was done, you all stepped back to admire your handiwork. The pumpkins were lined up on the steps, their candles casting a warm glow against the darkening sky.
Terry wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close. “Not bad for a night’s work,” he said, pride evident in his voice.
Matt bounced on the balls of his feet, eager to show off your creations to the neighborhood. “Can we go trick-or-treating now?” he asked, his voice tinged with impatience.
You laughed, nodding. “Yes, we can go now. But first, let’s get a picture of the Bat-family with their pumpkins.”
The three of you huddled together, the camera capturing the moment perfectly—a snapshot of Halloween happiness.
As the night progressed, you, Terry, and Matt wandered the neighborhood, collecting candy and compliments on your costumes. The air was filled with the sounds of Halloween—shrieks, laughter, and the rustling of leaves.
It was a night of masks and merriment, of heroes in costume and the simple joy of being together. And though you didn’t know Terry’s secret—that he was the real Batman—it didn’t matter. Because tonight, he was just Terry, your Robin, and that was more than enough.

My Silly Application Piece for Screen Rant
Why Only Terry McGinnis Should Succeed Bruce Wayne as the Next Batman
The cowl has been passed throughout the Bat Family with reverence, and possibly, with too much frequency for something which has been identified by the Lasso of Truth as a singular person’s true identity. Bruce Wayne, as Superman says in Superman/Batman #76, is the disguise. The true identity is the one that formed in the dark, and much of Bruce Wayne died in Crime Alley with his parents. However, one of the many Paul Dini creations to make it from cartoon to comic, Terry McGinnis, is the most appropriate successor to the title Batman, for several reasons.
Tumblr media
The Gotham that Terry lives in is different from, but similar to, the Gotham which Bruce aged protecting. A technological arms race with Batman and his team has led to street gangs armed with hovercrafts, drones, and explosives. Criminals have taken up the themes and adapted the costumes of classic Gotham villains. Wayne Enterprises has been merged with Powers Industries to form Wayne-Powers, and its leader, Derek Powers, murders Terry’s father to hide the development of a mutagenic nerve gas. Early in his career, Terry creates his own first nemesis, exposing Powers to the toxic chemicals that will turn him into the villain Blight. In the same manner as his mentor, Terry creates a slowly escalating chain reaction among the Gotham underworld.
Terry’s personality is also the most similar to Bruce’s. Of all Bruce’s proteges, Terry’s brooding is the most familiar. Dick is unique in his ability to heal emotionally from trauma, Jason in his inability to do so. Damian is, in a way, loved and raised by both of his parents, as is the Helena Wayne who is the daughter of Bruce and Selena (in Tom King’s Batman/Catwoman.) Each of these Batmen wear the cowl in situations where they are mourning Bruce Wayne, their surrogate father. When Bruce is off-world or when he is dead, a Robin picks up the mantle. But Terry is trained not as Robin, but as Batman, by Batman. Terry is a direct answer to the Gotham he serves, and has solid reason to avenge himself upon the city. The loss of his father to a brutal crime, the creation of his own nemesis, his refusal to fully join the Justice League, and his perpetual exhaustion from living two lives leads Terry to be a mirror of Bruce in his misery.
Thanks to Amanda Waller, another Terry is an appropriate successor to Bruce’s city is because he is Bruce’s biological offspring. Waller, fearing a world without a Batman, found a psychological match to Thomas and Martha Wayne in Mary and Warren McGinnis, and used nanotech and a sample of Batman’s blood to replace Warren’s DNA in his reproductive cells with Bruce’s. Terry, and his brother Matt, therefore, are biologically Bruce’s. Waller’s original intent was to have Andrea Beaumont - the Phantasm - murder Mary and Warren in front of Terry as a child, to spur him into a crusade against crime.
Phantasm backed out at the last minute out of respect for Bruce, and Waller agreed, canceling the project; but her actions unintentionally spurred on the McGinnis’s divorce when Warren found out his sons weren’t his and suspected an affair. Terry coming to grips with his origin in Project Batman Beyond further aligns him with the struggle of the original Batman.
Finally, out of all of Batman’s potential heirs, only Terry has the luxury of never having worked alongside Bruce as Robin. Terry and all his rogues are a clean slate, a new chaos, and unlike any of the others,, Terry has never been a sidekick. In Batman Beyond, Bruce the role fulfills is Oracle’s; manning the computers from the cave and feeding intel into the comms.
For Terry, Bruce isn’t Batman; the batsuit isn’t Bruce’s skin, his identity, and taking on the name Batman isn’t the burden of wearing your father’s shoes for Terry in the way it would be for any of the former Robins. Terry has the ability and distance to become his own Batman, and not a temporary replacement for the real thing.

Chapter Four: No Man's Land (Terry McGinnis' POV)
I sat across from Jason, working on my history paper, struggling to write the page on how that applied to Gotham today. Jason sat behind his computer, transferring files using the scanner. “You look like you’re stuck on something. What’s up?” Jason asked without looking up.
“You were a kid during No Man’s Land, right?” I asked.
“I was in a coma, so I wouldn’t be much help there,” Jason answered. “I have a brother who was alive during that time… When’s the paper due?”
“Rough draft’s due Thursday,” I replied.
Jason checked his watch and pressed three buttons on his office phone. “Hello?” a man’s voice answered.
“Bernie? Bern, tell Tim to come to the phone. One of my kids has a few questions for a homework assignment. Let him know he doesn’t have to speak to me if he doesn’t feel like it. This is for the kid,” Jason stated. He pushed his hair back, shutting his eyes as he breathed through his nose.
“I’ll get him… Wait a second, okay?” the man whispered.
“Who’s Bernie?” I asked.
“He’s my brother-in-law… He’s a good guy. Phenomenal cook. My kids love him-. Loved… They loved him,” Jason mumbled.
“Jason, what’s this about?” a stern voice questioned.
Jason looked at me. “I’ve got a student here who needs to interview a person from Gotham who was alive during No Man’s Land,” Jason explained, “I was in a coma, but I figured you might remember something about that time.”
“I do… How’re you doing? Kenny came home from school last week and asked about you,” Tim whispered.
“Did he get my gift?” Jason questioned.
“He did. I think he’d rather see his uncle… And despite our problems, I see no need in you avoiding Ken. He adores you-.”
“You’re on speaker, and I-. You know why I stay away… Tell him I love him, and I’m proud of him,” Jason interrupted, “No more small talk, okay? The kid’s paper is due on Thursday… And I’m sure it’ll take time for him to take notes today.”
Tim cleared his throat. “Okay… Fine. Hi, I’m Tim, Jason’s younger brother,” Tim introduced himself.
“I’m Terry. I guess you could say I’m a client of Jason’s… Are you busy?” I asked.
“Not particularly busy… Jason called the right person. I was in Gotham when it started, and my dad pulled me out to keep me safe,” Tim explained.
“Let me see your history book for a second,” Jason whispered. I passed him my tablet, and he read the pages to himself. “This is Tim. He’s right here.” Jason showed me a billboard of one of the missing kids in Gotham.
“That’s your brother?” Terry asked.
“Jason, don’t tell him that-.”
“Yeah, the search for him was like a nationwide incident-.”
“Okay, Terry, you had questions about that specific time, right?” Tim asked.
Jason gestured for me to answer him. “Tim doesn’t bite. He’s harmless,” Jason joked. I grinned.
“Tim, how old were you at the time?” I questioned.
“I was fifteen,” Tim answered.
Jason typed something into his personal phone. “Can you describe life in Gotham before, during, and after?” Terry asked.
Tim described Gotham as a crime-ridden city with a system of order kept neat by vigilante justice and police work before No Man’s Land (NML). During NML, the only system was that of criminal persuasion. The government abandoned the people, who were forced to fend for themselves against the different factions of super-powered and gimmicky criminals in their respective areas. Tim snuck into Gotham after it’d been shut off and got stuck there. When he returned home to Gotham after everything opened up, Tim’s dad enrolled him in boarding school. “A lot of us didn’t adjust well to being back in Gotham, and tons of kids, including myself, didn’t finish high school,” Tim replied.
“What did you do?” I asked.
Jason stood up, leaving me in his office alone. “Family business… But Gotham saw the problem in the school system and made it easier for kids to go to school and get their GEDs, go to college, and do whatever they had to to get on their feet,” Tim replied.
“Thanks for the help,” I smiled, “I-. Is Jason by himself a lot?”
“Jason, isolates… It’s what he does. He’s-.”
“Dad, is that JT?” a voice in the background questioned.
“I’m talking to one of his protégés,” Tim answered.
“Tell the kid to tell JT that ice cream’s on the house,” the voice replied.
“Okay, Kenny… I will. Now, make sure your father doesn’t cause a three-alarm fire making pizza again,” Tim warned him.
“Can do… Pop! You don’t need to put gasoline in a wood burner!” the voice yelled.
“That’s my son… Um, how old are you?” Tim asked.
“Fourteen,” I answered.
“He wouldn’t have called me had it not been for you… Jason must really like you. I haven’t heard from him in years. So, it was nice to hear his voice today. He almost sounded happy,” Tim whispered. His voice was soft. “I’ve gotta go. It’s dinnertime, but I want you to know it was a pleasure speaking to you, and I hope you get an ‘A’ on your history paper.”
“Thanks, Tim… And I’ll pass along your son’s message. Bye,” I replied.
“Bye, Terry.”
Jason returned with pizza and a large to-go container of fries. “Your dad texted me. He’ll be home late, so you’re having dinner with me. I hope you don’t mind pizza, breadsticks, and french fries. I didn’t plan on eating dinner tonight,” Jason stated without thinking. “Did I-? I meant-. I planned on having a drink, a piece of cake, and going to bed. Did Tim give you all the info you needed for your paper?” He seemed frazzled.
I nodded. “Someone wanted me to give you a message. I think it was your nephew,” I mumbled. Jason shook his head.
“No… It’s okay. Don’t tell me,” Jason whispered. I wrung my hands. “I’m not upset with either of you. It makes things easier when I don’t hear from the kids. That includes Ken… He’s my favorite, so that makes it even harder.”
“Oh… I almost forgot to say I watched your cage match against Michael ‘The Meat Grinder’ Gallucci. I had to watch it like ten times. How’d you do that so fast?” I asked. I had to change the subject. And well… He owed me a story.
Jason ate a fistful of fries and pushed the to-go plate my way. “Mm… That was my first match, but it wasn’t where the move originated. My oldest son was the first one to do the Thunderclap. He was eight, and we were play-fighting on the living room floor when he put his hands together, swung back, slapped me on one side of my face, swung, and hit me on the other cheek. I was so stunned-. I think he was too. He didn’t mean to hit me. I think he forgot it was only a game,” Jason replied. I don’t think he was convinced. He knit his brows together, a pained expression painted by the wrinkles in his brow and the tightness of his lips. I wondered what bubbled beneath the surface of his mind. Jason was interesting. Sad… But interesting. “You gave me a look.”
“I-. Jason, can I be honest with you?” I questioned.
“I’d like that,” Jason replied, “Don’t pull punches. I can take it.”
“He hit you, but he didn’t forget you were playing… He got carried away, didn’t he? He had a history of getting carried away-.”
“He did, but he was my little boy, and I loved him. Something in him was just-. Terry, there are things you’ll never understand in life until you experience them for yourself. I hope you never have to experience that, though,” Jason interrupted, “But you’re right. I covered over the truth. That was a great observation. I don’t mind being caught in a lie, so you can call me out as much as you like. No hard feelings.”
The truth. So, I felt compelled to give him the same heartfelt honesty. “Your son was lucky… I-. My dad loves me, but sometimes I can tell he doesn’t understand me. Sometimes I feel like a stranger to him,” I mumbled, “Maybe there’s something wrong with me.”
“I don’t think so… I don’t think parents and children are meant to understand each other… I think we’re meant to love each other despite the mystery. It’s easier to understand a complete stranger than to comprehend how a human you brought into existence, whose little face you washed and watched grow-. You wonder why they’re so different,” Jason whispered. His voice was soft and broken. It made me miss my dad. “Warren loves you more than most dads ever love their sons. I don’t know… It might be a psychological thing. Most dads hate their sons, but he adores you.”
“That’s nice to hear,” I replied.
“It’s the truth,” Jason stated. We both reached for a slice of pizza at the same time. “You remind me of myself, Terry… When I was young, I could’ve been anyone or anything. Don’t become one thing, Terry. You owe yourself more than that… Because once you trap yourself in one thing, it’s all you ever get. There’s no escaping it.”
“Did you get trapped in one thing?” I asked.
“Yeah, and I’ve spent my whole life trying to escape the ramifications of one misstep I made when I was fifteen,” Jason replied. And that stuck with me.

Do you know of any other good cartoons, especially if they don't end on a cliffhanger?
Is it my birthday already?
ReBoot (s1-3)
Tumblr media
You've already all heard my pitch for this, but TLDR it's set inside a computer, the heroes defend the integrity of their home system by battling viruses, playing games and defeating The User, a godlike being outside their comprehension (aka us). Evolves from episodic pop-culture referential humor into an incredibly immersive and fraught character drama unpacking the nature of heroism, family, growing up and losing who you used to be vs growing up and not losing yourself, and what it means to become a monster to defeat a monster. A series technically canceled that ends on the mother of all cliffhangers, but the season that was canceled was the bonus season they weren't expecting to get anyway, and also it sucks. Watch the first three seasons instead, they form a cohesive overarching narrative and end incredibly satisfyingly.
Batman Beyond
Tumblr media
50 years after Batman: The Animated Series, hooligan with a heart of gold Terry McGinnis becomes the new Batman, quippier, capeless and a bit more irresponsible than the old one, guided by an old and reluctantly retired Bruce Wayne. Basically "what if Batman were Spider-Man", but somehow really good. Like most DC cartoons from that era, ends with a loose "and the adventure continues" vibe. Highly episodic, a couple two-parters sprinkled in there for flavor. Also has a few follow-up comic series, some of which are even good! As a corollary, the other DC cartoons in this zone are also good - Justice League, Batman: The Animated Series, etc.
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Tumblr media
The best version of The Avengers. A team of colorful superheroes slowly assemble over the course of the first half of the first season, fighting a very large rogue's gallery and occasionally each other. Contains the best version of Thor ever written and an astoundingly good portrayal of Captain America, but the entire core cast are well-written and have solid interpersonal dynamics - half the fun of each episode is just seeing what unique friendships every random subset of The Avengers have with each other. Having recently rewatched some of it I can say I actually think the first season is the best it gets, and the second season struggles in places - a few episodes become full-on idiot plots to facilitate certain plotlines (Hulk vs Red Hulk being the worst offender) but the second season has a nice conclusive finale and a few bright spots of characterization. Captain America's writing is rock-solid all the way through, which it needs to be to make the Secret Invasion plotline work. The first season is incredibly good.
Transformers: Prime
Tumblr media
Robots in disguise etc etc, a crack team of autobots live in hiding on Earth fighting decepticons and occasionally ferrying their three human friends to school. Good team dynamics, a fantastic portrayal of Optimus Prime as a rock-solid paragon hero, a team dad and a millennia-old warrior of incredible skill who is very, very tired. Great versions of Megatron and Starscream, lots of other fun secondary characters. Three seasons, portrays a very slow war very well - ground is gained and lost from episode to episode, big battles feature every single asset the heroes have managed to scrape together in previous arcs, etc. Also portrays how fucking terrifying it would be to be a squishy human child underfoot during a giant robot fight. Dwayne The Rock Johnson is in the first five minutes of the show until he gets killed for being too expensive. The 3D animation takes a little getting used to, and I say that as someone who genuinely likes how ReBoot looks.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Tumblr media
preaching to the choir with this one here on tumblr.hell, but this show slaps. A reboot of the 80s cartoon, but the kind of reboot that's basically the story someone would make up when playing with the original's officially licensed action figures. Loyal horde soldier Adora learns to her shock that she's actually on the bad guy side (and also can transform into a magical warrior with a fancy sword) and immediately defects to team good guy, which is seen as the ultimate betrayal by her best friend/repressed childhood crush Catra, who doubles down on the bad-guy thing super hard for four seasons. Characters written with a surprising amount of emotional depth who often react to things more realistically than one might expect - frustration, lingering anger, calling people out for mistreating them, etc. Shouldn't be a high bar, and yet so many shows just use characters as emotionless props incapable of advocating for themselves ever.
Castlevania
Tumblr media
Dracula's wife is killed by the church and he sets out to exterminate all of humanity in retribution. He's opposed by three heroes of varying levels of heroism - his half-vampire son Alucard, the speaker magician Sypha, and Trevor Belmont, last son of the family of monster-hunters who dedicated their entire existence to fighting Dracula. Animation is absolutely gorgeous but very not kid-friendly. Ends on a completely satisfying and happy note, which is shocking considering the tone of the show leading up to it.
Hilda
Tumblr media
A very, very cozy and adorable urban fantasy slice-of-life story about Hilda, a little girl from the wilderness who moves to the big city with her mother after their house is accidentally crushed by a giant. Features a lot of scandinavian folklore. Got two seasons and a movie that wraps everything up pretty solidly. Absolutely incredible aesthetic with occasional moments of abject horror, just how I like it.
Dishonorable mentions, aka shows I watched but can't 100% recommend because of Grievances I Will Enumerate:
Centaurworld
Tumblr media
A warhorse from a war-torn world falls through a portal and gets isekai'd into a brightly-colored magical bubblegum dimension where everyone is a boggle-eyed magical centaur. First season has incredible musical numbers, like broadway level stuff, and it's got some appealing nightmare fuel, but the problem I keep running into is the silly elements are so over-the-top that they undercut the serious parts in a big way. Also, the appeal of a cohesive found family narrative is pretty seriously undercut when the entire found family is composed of joke characters that don't experience plausible emotional investment in their circumstances and don't act like people. The thing is, this isn't a mistake, this is very deliberate on the part of the show and it's doing what it's doing incredibly intentionally - I just don't think I like it.
Dota: Dragon's Blood
Tumblr media
A dragon-slaying warrior gets whammied with a dragon curse that sometimes turns him into a monster, and also about a million other things happen. Not finished yet, so I can't guarantee it won't end on a cliffhanger. Based on a game series I'm unfamiliar with, and unfortunately, unlike Arcane (which I would whole-heartedly recommend, it just currently left off on a cliffhanger) it doesn't really seem to know how to stand on its own without the game lore. It jumps around a lot between a huge number of characters, and a lot of the time it's not clear why we're watching what we're watching. I do like the parts of it I've seen! I just haven't been able to stick with it because it feels so scattered.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Tumblr media
An anime based in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, which is in turn basically just Shadowrun with none of the interesting fantasy elements. A gritty and unpleasant universe where everyone is a jerk, everyone is very narratively disposable and only bad things happen. Seems to have nothing an audience is supposed to get invested in - it gives us a colorful squad of found-family types but covers the entire friend-making in a dialogue-free montage and then kills all of them in like two episodes, it gives us a romance but undercuts it with a timeskip covering the actual getting-together part, it seems to have a theme about how believing you're special is bad but it also demonstrates at several points that the hero actually is kinda special, it has an extremely solid anticapitalist theme but because it's a cyberpunk dystopia nightmare there's nothing any of the main characters can actually do about any of it, etc. I watched it all in one go and the whole thing slid out of my head right after. Also this is a niche complaint but the use of futuristic cyberpunk slang nonstop in the dialogue might really grate on you. The animation is very nice, though.
Tales of Arcadia (Trollhunters, 3 Below, Wizards)
Tumblr media
Urban fantasy series made in large part by Guillermo Del Toro, featuring a whole bunch of characters doing assorted fun things - some chosen by magical artifacts, some alien royalty on the run from a civil war, one the apparently-immortal apprentice of Merlin, etc. I whole-heartedly recommend all three of these shows! I do not recommend the grand finale movie, which feels like it was written by someone who read the script notes for the previous shows and nothing else. Ends with a timeline reset that completely undoes the entire timeline of the series. Because it ends with a retcon, the movie feels comfortable killing characters pointlessly and letting our heroes act totally out of character whenever convenient. A bafflingly terrible ending for a series I otherwise really, really liked.
