The sundowner belongs to Africa like the Big Five. What is important? First, the sun goes down quickly and that regularly causes a rush. Therefore, the right timing is important. Find the perfect spot first. The classic safari drink is gin and tonic. Today it is part of almost every sundowner. By the way, a nice excuse for a regular drink is that the quinine in the tonic is used to prevent malaria. If you like it in proper style, table with tablecloth, glasses, drinks and snacks.

Rumbo al decathlon de los Juegos Panamericanos

El próximo 30 de octubre, en el marco del comienzo de las pruebas de pista y campo del programa atlético de los Juegos Panamericanos en Santiago de Chile, también se iniciará el decathlon. Y allí estará, como una de las grandes figuras internacionales, Lindon Victor, reciente medallista de bronce en el Mundial de Budapest, donde logró su marca personal de 8.756 puntos. Lindon Victor proviene de Grenada, un país del cual también surgieron destacados velocistas, principalmente el campeón olímpico y mundial de 400 en la década pasada –y aún vigente- Kirani James. El decathlon en Santiago también recibirá a los mejores exponentes sudamericanos de esta temporada, en la siempre difícil misión de alcanzar el podio. En este 2023, además de su actuación en Budapest, Lindon Victor fue reciente 3° del Decastar de Talence con 7.980 (lo había ganado el año pasado) y 7° en otra de las grandes citas del decathlon, el Hypo Meeting de Götzis, Austria, con 8.293. Entre sus antecedentes más importantes cuenta con el título de la NCAA en Estados Unidos (2017), cuando alcanzó los 8.390 puntos, el 7° puesto olímpico en Tokio y dos medallas de oro en los Juegos de la Commonwealth: Gold Coast 2018 con 8.303 y Birmingham 2022 con 8.233. Ahora, en su tercera participación en los Panamericanos (fue 7° en 2015 y subcampeón en 2019) irá en busca del oro que le falta. La lista de atletas sudamericanos para este decathlon en Santiago cuenta con el brasileño Felipe Vinicius dos Santos, cuyo registro de 8.364 puntos a fines del 2020 en el Trofeo de su país lo colocó como el segundo mejor de la historia de la región, detrás del recordman Carlos Eduardo Bezerra Chinin. Pero en 2023, Felipe quedó en 7.534 puntos, logrados en la Copa Nacional donde escoltó al ascendente José Fernando Ferreira Santana. Procedente del estado de Pernambuco, pero ahora radicado y entrenando en Sao Paulo, José Fernando –apodado “Balotelli” por el ex futbolista- encabeza la lista sudamericana del 2023 con sus 8.058, conseguidos al proclamarse campeón de nuestra región en Sao Paulo. También había pasado la barrera de los 8.00 en Naxos, Grecia (8.007), fue 14” en el Mundial con 7.935 y ganó el Trofeo Brasil con 7.944, además de la citada Copa Nacional. Los Panamericanos en Santiago constituyen la séptima participación del año para “Balotelli”, una curiosa intensidad en el ambiente del decathlon. Santiago Ford, en representación de Chile, fue subcampeón sudamericano en Sao Paulo con 7.845 puntos. Oriundo de Cuba, país para el que también participó en las competencias juveniles, lleva tres años radicado en el anfitrión de estos Panamericanos, y recibió la ciudadanía chilena y la habilitación de W.A. para representarlo. Otro de los que asiste a los Juegos es el venezolano Gerson Izaguirre, bronce en el Sudamericano de Sao Paulo con su mejor registro de la temporada (7.691). Su marca personal es 7.827, conseguida el año pasado, cuando obtuvo el título iberoamericano en La Nuncía. Y la participación sudamericana incluye al ecuatoriano Andy Preciado –residente en Puerto Rico- quien se proclamara campeón sudamericano en Guayaquil 2021 con 8.004 puntos, siendo así el primero de su país en superar los “8000”. En este 2023 fue cuarto del Sudamericano de Sao Paulo con 7.679. Tal es el caso del canadiense Damian Warner quien, además, se constituyó en el único que ha ganado dos veces el oro panamericano: fue campeón en Toronto 2015 con 8.659 puntos –record vigente de los Juegos- y retuvo en Lima 2019 con 8.513. Un verdadero superdotado, Waner fue campeón olímpico en Tokio 2021 con 9.018 récord olímpico, además de bronce en Rio 2016. En los Mundiales fue dos veces subcampeón y dos veces medalla de bronce. El atleta con más participaciones fue el cubano Leonel Suárez, campeón en Guadalajara 2011, quien ya había estado en Rio 2007 (4°), abandonó en Toronto y fue 5° en Lima. Suárez fue subcampeón mundial en Berlin 2009 y bronce en Daegu 2011, además de lograr el bronce olímpico en 2008 y 2012. Además de Warner, Suárez y Lindon Victor estas son las grandes figuras mundiales que estuvieron en el deca panamericano: Rafer Johnson (USA). Campeón panamericano en México 1955, al año siguiente fue subcampeón olímpico en Melbourne y alcanzó el oro olímpico en Roma 1960. Bill Toomey (USA). Logró el título panamericano en Winnipeg 1967, antesala de su conquista olímpica de México 1968. Brnce Jenner (USA). Otro de los más grandes decatletas de la historia, fue campeón panamericano en México 1975 y un año más tarde se proclamó campeón olímpico en Montreal con el entonces récord mundial de 8.618. Chris Huffins (USA). Campeón panamericano en Winnipeg 1999, fue bronce olímpico en Sidney 2000 con 8.595 puntos. Maurice Smith (Jamaica). Campeón panamericano en Rio 2007 con 8.278 y subcampeón cuatro años después en Guadalajara con 8.214, fue subcampeón mundial en Osaka 2007 con su mejor registro: 8.644. Pierce LePage (Canadá). Viene de proclamarse campeón mundial en Budapest, tras su medalla de plata en Eugene 2022. Estuvoi en los Panamericanos de Lima 2019 consiguiendo la medalla de bronce. Erle (Alnus glutinosa)

Heilwirkungen: desinfizierend, zusammenziehend, fiebersenkend, schleimhautpflegend.

Die Erle wächst in Auenwäldern, oft an unzugänglichen, nebligen Orten, im Wasser stehend. Sie gehört zu den Birkengewächsen; es gibt mehrere Arten, die sich zwar im Aussehen, nicht aber in der Anwendung unterscheiden.

Dass sich so unheimliche Sagen und Geschichten um sie ranken, liegt sicherlich an ihrem Wuchsort und ihrer Erscheinung. Sie liebt Feuchtigkeit & hat kein Problem mit stehenden Gewässern. Venedig steht größtenteils immer noch auf jahrhundertealtem Erlenholz.

Sie wächst gern allein und wird groß mit ihrer schrundigen Rinde & ihren knorrigen Ästen, die an lange Hexenarme erinnern. Ihre Wurzeln reichen tief in die Erde, sie steht fest & verbessert den Boden, indem sie Nährstoffe aus der Tiefe nach oben holt. Ihre Blätter werden gut mit Stickstoff versorgt, was sich an der schwarzgrauen Verfärbung im Herbst zeigt. Mit ihrem Laub & ihrer Krone, die viel Licht durchlässt, lockt sie zahlreiche Kräuter, Pflanzen & Tiere an, sodass sie von Leben umgeben ist. Wird sie verletzt & dringt ihr Saft an die Luft, verfärbt er sich rot, was ihren weiblichen & etwas unheimlichen Charakter noch unterstreicht.

In den alten Geschichten verkörpert die Erle die Kraft des Urweiblichen, die durchaus nicht nur schöpferisch, sondern auch zerstörerisch wirken kann. Als ihr Gegenstück galt die Esche, die vornehmlich für das männliche Prinzip stand. Unsere Vorfahren entzündeten Feuer in einem Erlengefäß, das sie mit einem Stößel aus Eschenholz so lange bearbeiteten, bis Funken sprühten.

Überliefert ist die mittelalterliche Sage Wolfdietrich, die um 1221 aufgeschrieben wurde, vermutlich aber viel älter ist. Hier erscheint eine schrundige, wilde Waldfrau, die »Erlenfrau«, auch raue Ilse genannt, bedroht Wolfdietrich & zwingt ihn, sie zu »minnen«, also zu lieben. Dreimal muss sie ihn teils übel traktieren, bis er schließlich nachgibt, sich seinem Schicksal fügt

und ihr folgt. Das Handeln wird belohnt, denn sie verwandelt sich in eine Traumfrau, die Sigeminne, die ihren wahren Kern nun enthüllt. Wir kennen den »Erlkönig« von Goethe, bei dem vermutlich ein Übersetzungsfehler vorliegt: Sein Erlkönig beruht auf dem dänischen Ellerkonge, was auf Deutsch Elfenkönig heißt.

Dennoch: Der sagenhafte und unheimliche Zug der Erlen passt gut in diese Ballade. Hauptsächlich verwendete man die Erlen zum Färben & Gerben.

Das Holz konnte nur für Brückenpfeiler verwendet werden. Es ist gut haltbar, solange es im Wasser steht, trocken ist es den Holzwürmern eine begehrte Nahrung. Holzkohle stellte man auch aus dem Holz her. Die klebrigen Triebe hängte man früher in den Häusern als Fliegenfänger auf, das verlieh ihr auch den lat. Namen »glutinosa« (klebrig).

Die zusammenziehende und desinfizierende Wirkung der Rinde & der Blätter dient der Nutzung als Gurgelmittel bei Erkrankungen der Mundschleimhaut: Dafür 2 TL getrocknete Blätter & Rinde 5 Minuten in einer Tasse Wasser kochen. Dieselbe Mischung kann man auch als Umschlag auf eitrige Wunden oder Ausschläge geben. Hildegard von Bingen empfahl, Pflaster aus Erlenblättern auf Geschwüre zu legen.

In der Erlenrinde findet sich fiebersenkendes Chinin. Knospen & junge Blätter ergänzen einen Smoothie wunderbar, aus den jungen Blättern lässt sich mit Öl, Knoblauch, gehackten Nüssen, Zitronensaft & Salz ein köstliches, tiefdunkles Pesto zubereiten.

In der Gemmotherapie steht ihre heilende Kraft für die Schleimhäute im Vordergrund. Das Mittel wirkt nicht nur auf die Atmungsorgane, sondern auch auf den Verdauungstrakt, die Harnwege & den Genitaltrakt. Auf den arteriellen Teil des Blutkreislaufs übt es eine stärkende Heilkraft aus, es schützt die Gefäßwände und verbessert die Blutversorgung im Gehirn. Somit ist die Erle auch ein gutes Altersmittel & hilft auf der seelischen Ebene, den Überblick zu bewahren.

Die Erle ist die blutende Heilerin, die bemüht ist, die Schwere zu nehmen & Frische & Leichtigkeit ins Leben zu bringen.

In der Oberpfalz blickt man mit Hilfe der Erlenblätter in die Zukunft: Güte und Umfang der Krauternte werden anhand des Zustandes und der Vitalität junger Erlenblätter bestimmt, ein grundsätzlich schlechtes Jahr kündigen schwach belaubte Erlenstauden an. Genau anders herum in Mecklenburg „Ellernholz voll Knöpfe bringt volle Töpfe“. Im Voigtland wird die beste Saatzeit bestimmt: „Wenn die Erlen spitzen wie die Mauseohren, säe Gerste; wenn ihre Triebe sind wie die Sauohren, ist es zu spät“. Sinkt in Finnland ein ins Wasser geworfenes

Erlenreis auf den Grund, ist Gerste zu säen. Je nach Ausschlag der weiblichen Blütenstände ist in Estland Gerste zu säen, Roggen dagegen mit den männlichen Kätzchen.

Chinovník

Příběh toniku je dobrodružnou výpravou do jihoamerických And, kde lze hledat původ chinovníku, ale také do Indie a Indonésie, kde se začal pěstovat o něco později. Jeho kůra je zdrojem chininu, klíčové ingredience pro léčivé tonikum a následně i osvěžující nápoj, za nějž vděčíme nadšeným botanikům, chemikům, badatelům, lékárníkům a dalším zvídavým a podnikavým osobnostem. Touha překonávat a posouvat hranice možného ostatně nechybí ani současným výrobcům.

Těžko bychom dnes popíjeli tonik, nebýt objevení chinovníku a léčebných účinků jeho kůry. Tento strom střední velikosti patří do čeledi mořenovitých a přirozeně roste v nadmořské výšce 1000–2500 m podél východních svahů jihoamerických And, v úzkém pásmu táhnoucím se od severu k jihu přes státy Kolumbie, Ekvádor, Peru, Bolívie a Chile. Jeho kůra obsahuje mnoho léčivých alkaloidů, z nichž nejdůležitější je chinin, který byl a je účinným prostředkem proti malárii, parazitárnímu onemocnění, jež bývá považováno za jednoho z největších zabijáků v historii lidstva. Léčebné účinky chininové kůry objevili domorodí obyvatelé a naplno jich využili po příchodu španělských dobyvatelů, kteří s sebou přivezli otroky ze západní Afriky, z nichž někteří byli nositeli těžších forem malárie a dalších onemocnění. Vůbec první záznam o použití chinovníku a jeho kůry k léčbě horečnatých stavů pochází z roku 1633 z pera kronikáře a kněze Antonia de la Calanchy, jenž působil v Peru. Popisuje v něm strom nazývaný fever tree, jehož kůra skořicové barvy rozemletá na prášek a smíchaná s vodou léčí horečku a terciánu (tj. malarickou horečku vracející se každý třetí den). Na základě nedávno zveřejněné studie se však zdá, že léčivých vlastností chinovníků využívali už o nějakých šest desítek let dříve obyvatelé vysoko položeného ekvádorského regionu Loja.

Cesta chinovníku do Evropy / Chinovník a jeho kůra se do historie zapsaly pod celou řadou jmen, jako třeba fever tree, quina, calisaya, peruánská kůra, ale taky jezuitská kůra. A byli to právě jezuitští misionáři, kteří od původních obyvatel And získali potřebné vědomosti a ještě před rokem 1640 vypravili první zásilky s kůrou do Evropy. Nejprve zamířily do Španělska, poté do Říma, Londýna a Francie. Stávalo se však, že během dlouhé cesty, kterou musely lodě mezi jihoamerickými a evropskými přístavy urazit, byla kůra chinovníku zaměněna za kůru z jiného léčivého stromu, což vyústilo v počáteční nedůvěru v její léčebné účinky a trvalo nějaký čas, než byly všeobecně uznány. O nárůst její obliby se zasloužili primárně angličtí a italští lékaři a lékárníci.

V následujících letech se kůra chinovníku stala jednou z nejcennějších komodit dopravovaných do Evropy z Jižní Ameriky. Její dodávky kontrolovali zejména Španělé, v roce 1751 španělská koruna dokonce na její dovoz vyhlásila monopol. Když počátkem 19. století většina států Jižní Ameriky prosadila nezávislost na Španělsku, následovala opatření na kontrolu sklizně a dovozu kůry chinovníku, což mezi evropskými mocnostmi vyvolalo vážné obavy o její kvalitu, množství a cenu.

Mezitím se v roce 1820 dvěma francouzským chemikům podařilo izolovat dva ze čtyř hlavních alkaloidů obsažených v kůře chinovníku – pojmenovali je cinchonin (cinchonine) a chinin (quinine). Tím se otevřela cesta k analýze různých druhů chinovníku (aktuálně je jich uznáno čtyřiadvacet) a k výběru toho, který obsahuje nejvíce chininu. S přesunem pozornosti evropských vlád na nová teritoria v Africe a Asii, kde se hojně vyskytovaly pro evropské kolonisty smrtelné tropické nemoci, se totiž poptávka po chinovníku navýšila a na pořad dne se dostala myšlenka jeho výsadby v nově osídlených koloniích. Britové kolonizující Indii a Nizozemci obývající Indonésii učinili několik pokusů o transport chinovníku či jeho semen na tato území.

Klíčovou roli ve snaze o dovoz stromů či semen chinovníku sehrály londýnské Královské botanické zahrady. První pokusy se zaměřily na Peru, nedopadly však dobře. Stromy buď nepřežily náročný transport, nebo byl dovezen druh s nízkým obsahem chininu. O poznání úspěšnější byly výpravy do Ekvádoru a Bolívie. V roce 1860 Britové z Ekvádoru dovezli druh chinovníku, jenž obsahoval vyšší množství chininu, a také semena, která později vysadili v Indii.

Zdaleka nejúspěšnější byl ale britský badatel Charles Ledger, jenž v roce 1865 z Bolívie dovezl značné množství semen chinovníku s velmi vysokým obsahem chininu. Původně je chtěl prodat Královským botanickým zahradám, ty ale měly své z výpravy do Ekvádoru, a tak je získali Nizozemci, kteří je vysázeli ve svých koloniích v Indonésii (zejména na Jávě), kde se jim výjimečně dařilo. Část semen Ledger prodal soukromým plantážníkům v Indii, tamější prostředí se však pro daný druh chinovníku ukázalo jako ne úplně vhodné. Do roku 1883 nicméně kůra chinovníku z plantáží v jižní a jihovýchodní Asii postupně na trhu dominovala, přičemž Jáva zajišťovala úctyhodných 95 % všech světových dodávek chininu. Kromě malárie se s ním léčily například ještě úplavice, neštovice, bolesti zubů či krku a horečky obecně.

První formy léčivých tonik / Kůra chinovníku do Evropy obvykle dorazila v sušené podobě a v menších kusech, které bylo třeba před použitím podrtit či namlít. V raných fázích bylo běžnou praxí ji míchat s ostatními bylinkami, například skořicí, hřebíčkem, anýzem, ale i s melasou, medem či sladkým sirupem, aby se alespoň trochu zakryla její výrazná hořkost. Další možností se ukázalo být léčivé tonikum. Kůra chinovníku a chinin jako takový se často spolu s dalšími složkami podávaly v alkoholové směsi, nejčastěji na silnější vinné bázi nebo smíchané s brandy či rumem, neboť některé alkaloidy v kůře obsažené nebylo možné rozpustit ve vodě.

Na trhu se postupně objevilo množství vinných tonik s obsahem chininu jako třeba chininová vína s přídavkem sevillských pomerančů či nevábně znějící vinné tonikum s přídavkem hovězího, železa a chininu, jež se obvykle podávalo mezi jídly v množství o velikosti jedné polévkové lžíce. Vinná tonika byla současně často kritizována jako prostředek vedoucí k možnému alkoholismu. Nicméně vždy existovala určitá hranice mezi nápoji ve formě zdraví prospěšných tonik a těch, jež se popíjely pro potěšení. Pár značek vycházejících z původních léčivých nápojů existuje dodnes, patří k nim například Buckfast Tonic Wine vyráběný v anglickém hrabství Devon od roku 1897.

Léčit může i voda s bublinkami / V průběhu 18. a 19. století řada vědců experimentovala s minerálními vodami s cílem odhalit a popsat jejich léčivé vlastnosti. Souběžně s tím probíhaly experimenty s plyny a spojení obojího dalo vzniknout novému nápoji – sodové vodě. Už v roce 1755 skotský fyzik Joseph Black jako první identifikoval oxid uhličitý a pojmenoval ho fixed air. O deset let později britský vědec William Brownrigg zjistil, že právě fixed air dokáže minerálním vodám propůjčit zdraví prospěšné vlastnosti. Oběma se následně inspiroval britský chemik Joseph Priestley, jenž je všeobecně považován za vynálezce sodové vody.

Priestley, jehož plynné prvky doslova fascinovaly, v letech 1766–1768 experimentoval s oxidem uhličitým, který objevil stoupat z kvasných kádí v nedalekém pivovaru. K hladině kvasné kádě umístil přes noc šálek s vodou a následující den si všiml, že je voda tímto plynem znatelně a příjemně nasycená. Doma pokračoval v dalším výzkumu za pomoci pivní sklenice a hliněné mycí kádě. Metodu, jak nasytit vodu oxidem uhličitým, a zařízení k tomu určené poté popsal v brožuře vydané v roce 1772.

V následujících letech došlo k několika konstrukčním vylepšením a vývoji efektivnější metody výroby, jež mimo jiné umožnila vyrábět také repliky minerálních vod z lázeňských pramenů, jež pak byly k mání na lékařský předpis. Na trhu se objevily výrobníky sodové vody a sodové fontány různých modelů a velikostí, jež se od poloviny 19. století staly populárním vybavením lékáren v USA a Evropě. K dispozici byly ale i lahvované produkty určené k přímé spotřebě. Vůbec první láhev, jež vydržela tlak sycené vody, měla vejcovitý tvar. V roce 1809 ji ve spolupráci s dublinskou firmou A&R Thwaites & Co. navrhl William Hamilton.

Bez sody není sodovka sodovkou / Sycené vody vyráběné do roku 1767 se lišily od sodových vod, které známe dnes. Chyběl jim totiž hydrogenuhličitan sodný neboli jedlá soda, tedy přesně to, co dělá sodovku sodovkou. Jako jeden z prvních v 70. letech 18. století do svých vod začal bikarbonát sodný přidávat lékárník z Manchesteru Thomas Henry, jenž se tak významně zasloužil o rozvoj a oblíbenost sodové vody. Vyráběl mimo jiné i napodobeniny léčivých minerálních vod z různých lázní, zejména z Pyrmontu.

Výraz sodová voda si v roce 1799 nechala patentovat společnost A&R Thwaites & Co. a do běžného užívání se dostal v následujících letech zejména díky společnosti Schweppes. Jacob Schweppe pocházel z Německa, jako mladý se ale přestěhoval do švýcarské Ženevy, kde inspirován prací Josepha Priestleyho začal v roce 1780 vyvíjet zařízení na výrobu sycených minerálních vod. Vyrobenou vodu poskytoval zdarma lékařům, kteří ji nabízeli nejchudším pacientům. V roce 1783 přešel od pouhého experimentování ke komerční výrobě a o sedm let později se spojil s Nicolasem Paulem a jeho otcem Jacquesem, kteří vyvinuli podobné zařízení jako on, a ještě s Henrym Gossem, jenž rovněž experimentoval s výrobou minerálních vod. Společně se pak na vylepšeném výrobním zařízení pustili do výroby široké škály napodobenin léčivých minerálních vod pocházejících z prominentních lázeňských oblastí.

Byznysu se dařilo, a tak firma expandovala za hranice – v roce 1792 otevřela továrnu v Londýně. A právě tam Schweppe zůstal, když se kvůli neshodám s obchodními partnery rozhodl znovu osamostatnit. Dál vylepšoval výrobní proces, vybudoval další závody (a to i ve Skotsku a USA) a rozšířil své portfolio, do nějž například v roce 1835 přibyla citronáda. Po zásluze je tak Schweppe považován za muže, jenž se významně zasadil o vznik a rozvoj komerčně vyráběných sycených nealkoholických nápojů.

Když se chinin potká se sodou / Zdraví prospěšné účinky sodové vody byly doporučovány lékaři a lékárníky napříč celou Anglií. Do roku 1820 se stala poměrně populární její kombinace s vínem, jež byla vnímána spíš jako příjemné osvěžení než léčivý nápoj. Mezi lety 1830 a 1860 se začaly lahvovat sycené minerální vody smíchané s ovocnými sirupy a sirupem z kořene smilaxu lékařského. Prodávaly se už jako hotový produkt, což předznamenalo rozvoj ochucených sycených nealkoholických nápojů. Ve stejné době se stal chinin oblíbenou přísadou do sirupů a sodových vod určených pro ty, kdo nechtěli konzumovat alkohol, a tím pádem ani chinin ve formě léčivých vinných tonik.

Nejstarší objevený záznam vztahující se ke kombinaci chininu a sodové vody byl nalezen v britských novinách Bristol Mercury z června 1835. Jde o reklamu na chininovou sodovou vodu vyráběnou firmou Hughes & Co. O poznání podstatnějším datem je pak 28. březen 1858, kdy si v Londýně žijící Erasmus Bond nechal patentovat svoji Pitt’s Aerated Tonic Water. Jeho produkt byl testován a schválen lékaři a na trh uveden jako léčivý prostředek pro oslabený žaludek, na zažívací potíže, ale také pro jedince s depresemi či vyšším mentálním vypětím. Je tedy zřejmé, že to byly další léčivé vlastnosti chininu, a ne jeho antimalarické využití, co vedlo ke vzniku prvního toniku. Kolem roku 1870 ho začala vyrábět i společnost Schweppes, a to pod názvem Indian Tonic Water, jenž měl odkazovat na hojnou konzumaci tohoto nápoje v Indii.

Na trh začal být tonik v širší míře uváděn v 60. letech 19. století a jeho prodej se rychle rozšířil do zahraničí, zejména do Indie, Číny nebo na Nový Zéland. O jeho popularitě v Indii svědčí četné dobové reklamy, ale i zmínka z roku 1867 o prodeji zařízení na výrobu sodovky a toniku plukům britské armády, jež v té době v indických koloniích operovaly. Je tedy více než zřejmé, že tonik byl v té době sice stále konzumován pro léčivý efekt, ale taky jako osvěžující prostředek v oblastech s horkým klimatem nebo jako bezpečná alternativa k čisté vodě.

Vnímání toniku jako osvěžujícího nápoje se postupně posilovalo, což jej nakonec v roce 2019 ochránilo od přejmenování. Evropské komisi se kromě tvrzení o prospěšných účincích nealkoholického syceného nápoje nelíbilo ani užívání výrazu tonik, jenž podobně jako třeba tonikum určitý léčebný efekt evokuje. Britská asociace nealkoholických nápojů však argumentovala dlouhou tradicí používání slova tonik jako obecného výrazu pro nealkoholický nápoj obsahující chinin, a tak Evropská komise nakonec používání výrazu tonik povolila s tím, že je přiřazen specifické kategorii nealkoholických nápojů, které si nenárokují pozitivní zdravotní účinky a ani tak nejsou běžnými konzumenty vnímány.

Výroba téměř bez pravidel / Pro výrobu toniku obecně vzato neplatí téměř žádná pravidla, a tak mají výrobci poměrně volné pole působnosti. Dokonce ani chinin v něm být nemusí, což je často případ levných supermarketových produktů, v nichž je nahrazen umělými hořkými aromaty. Většina kvalitních značek však chinin obsahuje. Výrobci ho získávají od dodavatelů či přímo od plantážníků, kteří jej extrahují převážně z kůry chinovníku, v zanedbatelné míře také z jeho větví a kořenů.

Největším pěstitelem chinovníku je stále indonéský ostrov Jáva, následován Kongem a Peru. K extrakci chininu se nejčastěji používá kombinace chinovníku červeného a chinovníku kalisajového. Kůra se sklízí ručně, od stromu se odděluje škrábáním a loupáním. Na jejím místě se následně vytvoří nová, což umožňuje celý proces opakovat po dobu několika let. Kůra se následně suší na slunci zhruba sedm dnů, pak dalších sedm až deset v otevřeném skladu a na závěr se dva dny dosušuje za tepla, aby se její vlhkost snížila na minimum. Následně se rozdrtí na hnědý prášek, ze kterého se pomocí uhličitanu vápenatého a dalších komponentů získá bílý prášek, tedy chinin.

Množství chininu v toniku je limitováno, jelikož jde o alkaloid, který může i v nepatrně vyšším množství způsobit zdravotní komplikace, případně smrt. Povolené množství se v jednotlivých zemích liší. Zatímco v Evropě je to 100 mg chininu na litr nápoje, v USA jen 83 mg. Běžně vyráběné toniky obsahují mezi 20 a 60 mg chininu na litr nápoje, zdaleka nejvíce ho má značka East Imperial, a to právě 83 mg/l. Pokud obsah chininu přesahuje 55 mg /l, může být označen jako Indian Tonic Water nebo Quinine Tonic Water.

K dalším přísadám toniku patří přírodní konzervanty jako kyselina citronová nebo kyselina jablečná. Levnější a méně kvalitní produkty obvykle obsahují konzervanty chemické. Nedílnou součástí toniku je také cukr, většinou rovněž přírodní – hlavně fruktóza, ale také třtinový cukr. V USA se používá také kukuřičný sirup s vysokým podílem fruktózy. Z umělých sladidel se využívá zejména sacharin nebo sukralóza. Tonik může obsahovat také přírodní či umělá aromata nebo esenciální oleje, vždy v závislosti na daném produktu a jeho příchuti. Těch je na trhu široká škála, od grepové přes okurkovou až po bezový květ nebo třeba rebarboru.

Vůbec nejdůležitější složkou toniku je pak pitná voda. Výrobci ji před použitím většinou čistí pomocí UV světla účinného proti škodlivým mikroorganismům. Pak ji obvykle velmi studenou smíchají se všemi ostatními ingrediencemi v nerezové kádi, čímž dojde k dokonalému spojení jednotlivých komponentů. Následně se přečerpá do další kádě, do níž se napumpuje oxid uhličitý, který vyvolá masivní tlak v celé tekuté směsi. Nasycený tonik se poté plní do láhví nebo plechovek.

Tonik ve spojení s alkoholem / Jeden z prvních záznamů upozorňujících na tonik jako koktejlovou ingredienci pochází z roku 1863. Vztahuje se k Hongkongu, kde jej kombinovali se zázvorovou brandy. Kompletní receptura však není známa. Tonik si dobře rozumí s rumem, vodkou i whisky („chinin whiskey“ ostatně už v roce 1895 propagovala jedna americká reklama jako lék na nachlazení), zdaleka nejpopulárnější je ale samozřejmě jeho kombinace s ginem.

Kdy a kde došlo poprvé k tomuto snoubení, je předmětem četných sporů. K zažitým mýtům patří ten, který tvrdí, že za vznikem G&T stojí britští vojenští důstojníci působící v Indii, kteří od roku 1825 pobírali denní dávky chininu jakožto prostředku proti malárii. Míchali ho s vodou a cukrem a později přidali i gin, aby překryli jeho výrazně hořkou chuť. Ačkoliv chinin i sycená voda byly v Indii v té době k mání, je spíše nepravděpodobné, že právě takto oblíbený drink vznikl a žádné pádné důkazy pro to neexistují. Chinin byl sice v Indii jako lék proti malárii používán, avšak jako preventivní prostředek konzumovaný na denní bázi byl britské armádě představen až po roce 1850. Jeho denní doporučené množství se pohybovalo mezi 65 a 130 mg rozmíchanými v sherry nebo jiném alkoholickém nápoji. Historické záznamy naznačují, že ho britští vojáci konzumovali v kombinaci v podstatě s jakýmkoliv destilátem, který byl k dispozici. Nejčastěji šlo o brandy, whisky, rum, grog nebo lokální produkty – třeba arak.

K raným zmínkám o kombinaci ginu s tonikem patří ta v The Oriental Sporting Magazine z roku 1868. Další záznamy pocházejí z let 1870–1893 a je z nich jasně patrné, že výraz gin-tonic byl v té době v Indii dobře známý a spojovaný především s Angličany, vojskem, koňskými závody nebo pólem. Popíjen a vychutnáván byl spíš už jako příjemný osvěžující drink ideální v tropických podmínkách, nikoliv jako léčivý nápoj.

Vyhlídky jsou nadějné / Ginová revoluce v USA počátkem třetího tisíciletí a řemeslná výroba ginu v Británii, kterou nastartovalo mimo jiné otevření londýnské palírny Sipsmith v roce 2009, měly bezpochyby signifikantní vliv na expanzi a rozvoj toniku jako kategorie. Jedním z pionýrů prémiových toniků byla britská společnost Fever-Tree, jež v roce 2005 uvedla na trh jako svůj první produkt Indian Tonic Water. Postupně přibývaly další značky jako Fentimans, Double Dutch, Franklin & Sons nebo třeba Thomas Henry.

V roce 2012 rozvířila tonikové vody značka East Imperial, která se rozhodla přivést zpět k životu původní toniky s minimálním obsahem cukru, které dávají o to více vyniknout aroma a chuti zvoleného ginu. Toniky s redukovaným množstvím cukru jsou ostatně trendem posledních let, který zároveň reflektuje stále se zvyšující zájem o zdravý životní styl. Současně se ovšem utěšeně rozvíjí kategorie ochucených toniků, a před konzumenty se tak neustále otevírají nové dimenze chutí.

Prodeje toniků jsou na vzestupu a budoucnost s sebou zcela jistě přinese další výzvy. Něco nového chystá kupříkladu Kevin-Law Smith, jeden ze zakladatelů a teď už bývalý člen týmu East Imperial. Ještě letos má v plánu uvést na asijský trh novou řadu tzv. wellness nápojů a současně sérii „better for you“ toniků a sodových vod, jež by měly být něčím dosud nevídaným. Vyrábět se budou v Thajsku výhradně z lokálních asijských ingrediencí a kromě revitalizačních a antioxidačních účinků prý nabídnou výborný doprovod prémiovým destilátům.

This took a lot longer than I wanted to but I hope you all understand I really want to take my time writing not rush into it. Here is part 2 and I'm working on part 3. Thank you the support and patience, amd please enjoy.

The front door swung open too the large apartment as Yadama Hizashi came calling out.

"Aaaaaaaaizaaaaaaawaaaaaa~! Wakie, wakie~!" He walks into too the room, his huge beaming smiling spreed acroos. "C'mon, Aizawa, raise 'n' shine~. It's a beautiful mornin'. The sun shinin' and the bird are chinin' some sick beats, yo." She walk into living, where Shota and Olivia standing there the arms around each other.

"... God, Yadama, why do have to be so loud?" asked Kayama Nemuri, coming right behind him, and looks into the living room and saw Shota and Olivia, standing there.

Shota face was bright red and looked beyond annoyed and embarrassed, while Olivia smiles, and gave an awkward small wave.

"U-Um... M-Morning, Hizashi and Nermuri..."

"Ooooh~." said Nermuri, crossing her arms, and grinning at them. "Are you two misbehaving~?"

"N-NO!!" Snapped Shota, hugging Olivia closely. "... ... I-I ... I… A-Anyway what the hell are you doing here?!”

“Well, Romeo.”Hizashi began. “you weren’t returning my texts. I thought you pulled an all nighter again wanted to check on you.” He then grins, and lowers his sunglasses and winked. “But I can you and Juliet were having a moment~.”

Olivia faces goes reddish and smiles bashfully and Shota didn't say a word, just lets go of her and walks to the bedroom.

“Sweetheart…? Where are going?” asked Olivia.

“Going to get dress.” said Shota, closing the door behind him.

Hizashi began laughing a bit. “You 2 have been together for years and he still gets super shy.”

“Heh. Yeah. Honestly I think it’s adorable.” said Olivia, looking at him. “Anyway I’m happy to see you both.”

"And we’re happy too see you! Now C’mere!” said Hizashi, pulling her into a tight hug. "Welcome home~. How was your missions?"

"Pretty good, long though." she said, hugging him back.

"I saw you on the news a few days ago." said Nemuri. "They did a big story on you and Hawks."

Olivia looks at her, a bit shocked. "Wait, really?"

"Well, yeah, Liv. You 2 stop a lot people from that hijack train. And there was few videos of you going around helping people, and you and Endeavor took down that one villain who going around playground area a few days ago. said Nemuri. “You’ve all over the place. People can’t stop talking about you. Haven’t you been paying attention?”

Olivia shook her head, and said: "Not really. I have been running for the past month really haven’t been keeping up with news about me. “

Nemuri gives a sly smile. "I have good news for you, Liv. You are very popular.”

Olivia stood there eyes widen. "W-What...?! H-How!?"

"Jeez, you are haven't been keeping with what's been going at all." said Hizashi. "You're a single hit, yo! You’re off the charts! All the students at UA have been can’t stop talk about you. Even some old videos of you fighting alongside All Might are going viral.”

Olivia stood there looking at him, she felt her anxiety going into a bit of an overdrive. She had notices that she was getting a lot more well over the past few weeks, but she didn't realizes.

"O-Oh, w-wow. Um... Okay."

“Hm? What’s up?” asked Hizashi.

“I-I am … This is all a bit too much.” said Olivia.

“Well, Sweetie, being in the spotlight dose come with being a pro hero.” said Nemuri.

Olivia blinks and began feel a bit more nervous. Just then Shota come walking the bed room wearing his hero outfit. "Honey,"

She jumps and looks over at him. "It's 8:37. You should head to out now."

"U-Um... I-I... Do I have too?" Olivia asked.

Shota just looks at her, with a raised eye. "Yes." The he noticed the anxious expression her face.

"What the matter?"

"Um... W-Well, I-I'm kind of just... Um..." Olivia began.

"She's a bit scared that might be recognizes by the students do to her new fame." said Hizashi.

Olivia head snaps at him, and glared him. "Why!?"

"Because it's true." said Nemuri.

Shota then looks at her, then at Olivia who sighs. "Y-Yeah... I-It's true. I-I just realized that I’m very well known and I’m kinda popular and it weirds me, and I don’t want people to recognize me and—!”

"Liv, Liv." said Shota reaching out and placing his hands on her shoulders. "It's okay. I get it." Then he looks at Nemuri. "Midnight, could take Liv too Nezu's office?"

"You don't have ask, Aizawa." said Nemuri, with smile.

Olivia sighs with relief. "You are the best, Nemuri.

"Heheh~. I know." she said, with a smile.

Shota then looks Olivia. "I would escort myself, but I have class today."

"I know. But… I'll see later."

Shota smiles at her. "Yeah." He leans into too give her a goodbye kiss. As soon as he did that Nemuri whistles and Hizashi said loudly:

"That atta boy, Eraserhead! You Stallion you!! WOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHOOOOOO~!!!!"

The two ladies started laughing as Shota slowly looks over Hizashi, his eyes glowing head and his hair began rising slightly.

"Well, I should get going." Olivia leans up and gives Shota another kiss. "Try not to kill Mic while I'm gone, okay, Stallion~?" And she turns too walk away, Hizashi held his hand, and Olivia giving a high.

She and Nemuri walks away both snickering.

Shota stood blinking and shook his head. "W-We should get ready for work."

"Let's get going Romeohead."

"... ... Shut up."

The spring air was chilly has Olivia and Nemuri began making their too the school chatting.

"How were things while I was away?" asked Olivia.

"Calm. Nothing really happen. Thankfully." said Nemuri, sighing. "We don't need another incident like had the training facility."

"Yeah." Olivia agreed. "How are the 1-A kids doing? Are they okay?"

"Yep. They're driving your hubby crazy as usual~."

"Hahaha. That's good."

The two walk kept walking down the pathway they could see the sunlight reflecting off the glass windows of U.A high, that towering over the trees.

As they walked on Olivia began telling Nemuri what happen with Endeavor how the two got into a got into huge verbal fight, and how Olivia used her powers to throw ice cold water at the number 2 hero and stormed out.

Nemrui just looks at her, as Olivia groans and said: "And I packed all my belongings and just walk out his agency... And that is about it."

"Wow! What a jerk." said Nemuri.

"I know, and I know I could have handle better, Nemuri, what he said really got to me."

"What did he say to you?" asked Nemuri.

"About how he I was dealing pretty bad headache this morning, Evderand made a comment about how pathetic I am for a tiny ‘medical condition’ The said said something about All Might wasting his time with ‘sad excuse for a hero’ and He just was just being a total ass.” Olivia lets out a sigh. “And, well... I-I looked at the water jug and throw at him, and too make a long story short I told he'll never be better than All Might. Called an narcissistic asshole and, um, I lifted."

"... Have you told Aizawa what Endeavorer said too you?"

"No way. I didn't tell Shota that part. I don't want my husband to get into a fight with jerk. Plus I did held it.

"... I could kick his ass for you, Liv." said Nemuri.

"Haha. Thanks, but like I said: I held it."

The two woman began giggling and reach the school, as they walked into the entrance, a lot students were already walking to the building, some of them were standing outside chatting with some fellow classmates and friend.

As the two ladies were by some the students notice Nemuri walking by and some greeted her, and waved.

She smiles sweetly waves began and winks.

"Hi, Miss. Midnight!"

"G-Good morning, Midnight!"

"Hi, Miss Midnight!"

"Good morning, everyone, hope you all have a wonderful day." said Nemuri, smiling fondly at the students, then looks Olivia. "C'mon, Principal Nezu should be in his office.”

As they did a few the students, saw Olivia walking next to Nemuri.

"I wonder who she is?" a young girl ask.

"I-I think I seen her on tv before." said a boy, trying remember where from. "Shoot! I know her from some where!"

"Maybe she a reported or something?" asked another boy.

"I don't think so. I think I may have seen on T.V."

"Oh! Oh, maybe she's model!" said a another girl, eyes beaming at Olivia.

As some of the students began take more noticed, Olivia kept closer to Nemuri, and kept her head down.

"You good?" asked Nemuri.

"Yeah, I'm okay." said Olivia. "I've been getting recognized a lot more these days. I don't mind meeting fans, but... I-I just find it so overwhelming to be in the spotlight, you know? I have no idea you handle it, Nemuri."

"Well, Sweetie, it's all about being confidence, beauty and grace." She with proud smile. "Which I think you have master perfectly."

Olivia blushed a bit, and smiled a little. "I-I... I mean... You think so?"

"Of course, Liv." Nemuri looking at her a beaming smile. "For the past few weeks the Fearless Valkyrie is one the trending heroes right now. For the past few weeks everyone has been talking about you."

"... ... R-Really?"

"Yeah. Everyone is still talking about how you and All Might. He’s been going on and how you 2 walked together a lot.”

“Oh, boy,” Olivia places a head over face. “I hope he doesn’t tell the embarrassment ones.” “Hmm. Maybe I should All Might myself.~” said Nemuri thoughtfully.

“Hell no!” snapped Olivia.

Nemuri began to giggling. “Relax. Anyway, you should be honored. Everyone thinks you’re amazing. Aizawa even been talking about how amazing you~.”

Olivia looks at her. "Oh, he did?" asked Olivia. "What did he say?"

“He says he’s very proud of you.” Nemuri beams. “He’s been showing a video of you helping some little kids get their ball from a tree and you playing with after. So cute~.”

Olivia’s face goes a bit and smiles to herself.

Nemuri just grins. "Anyway we should hurry along.”

The two ladies finally walked into the mine hall of the school, where some other fellow teachers were talking and greeting the students.

Snipe was standing, and saw the two ladies were walking by him he took off hat, and nodded to the both of them.

And both Nemuri and Olivia smiled and nodded back and walked past Ishiyama Ken was alway stood by and greeting the students, and then gave a small too small, and again the ladies smiled and waved back.

As they walk down the hallway, Olivia felt more calm as they walked into the sea of the students who haven't noticed her at all.

"Wow. So far no one hasn't found who I am yet. Thank goodness, just blend in and don't draw attention yourself."

As the two ladies kept on walking they were approaching small group of students who were stopped and were admiring the hero among heroes, the symbol of pease himself, All Might, he stood tall. Towering over them, with big beaming smile on his face.

"Good morning, young future heroes!" He greeted with proud. "I hope all you learn a lot today."

"Good morning, All Might!" shouted a few kids.

"All Might rocks!!" said few more.

"You're the best!!!"

All Might lets a heart laugh, looks around the large hallway, there he spotted Nemuri

"Well, well, good morning Miss. Midnight!"

Then he spots another very familiar woman next to her. "And I see the Fearless Valkyrie is here today as well!"

When he said that Olivia's eyes widen and stops dead.

"Oh, no. Nnononono!!!"

A handful of students, stopped looked at All Might has he began walking over to Olivia who was looking down at the floor.

"Good morning, Valkyrie, how are you on this wonderful morning?"

Olivia slowly looks at him, and gives a very sweet smile. "Great. JUST great."

She was looking at him, All Might could hear her face in his mind.

"Toshinori, what the hell?"

"I-I---! What!?" All Might looking a bit taken a back.

Olivia gives an annoyed expression, and places hand over face. "I didn't want to anyway to know I was going to be at UA today! Gaaaaaaaah, why did you have to open your big mouth!?"

All Might just looks at her, and frown a bit."I-I didn't know. Crap. I'm so sorry, Olivia!"

Before Olivia could do anything, and large handful of students gathered around her and All Might.

"Oh, my god! You are her!" said a young lady, with beaming smiling on her face. "You so different with your hero costume"

"I-I... Yeah, I guess." Olivia said, with a sheepish smile.

"Valkyrie, you were so cool helping Hawks saving all those people from that hijack train.” said a boy.

More children gather around Olivia all talking a t once. She smiles sweetly at all then. But she was starting get anxious.

“You’re a amazing!!” said another boy.

"You're so brave and cool." said another student, from the far back the small crowd.

"O-Oh. Oh, thank you, I-I... I was doing what any hero would to be honest." said Olivia.

The students were all talking at once. Olivia was getting more and more overwhelmed then Nemuri stood in front of her.

"Now, now. All of you behave yourselves. Valkyrie has very important meeting and all of you need to head to your classes."

Some the kids groan, and began making too the respectful homeroom classes, as they were walking by someone them the kids called to Olivia.

"You rule, Fearless Valkyrie! You and All Might are the greatest!"

"T-Thank you..." Olivia said, with smile.

"You're so pretty and badass!!" said a girl, and few friends shouted and cheered Olivia's hero name.

She just smiles and waves awkwardly, and once they most the children were go Olivia leans against the and took a deep breaths. Toshinori walks over and asked:

“Are you alright?”

“Y-Yeah…” she said.

Nemuri rubs the back of her head. “So much going in unnoticed." She looks at Olivia. "Sorry, Olivia."

"I-It's okay. I-I think someone would noticed me anyway." she said.

"I-I should be the one who apologize here." said All Might, the frowns at Olivia. “Sorry, Valkyrie."

"I-It's fine, big guy. Don't worry about it." said Olivia. "Anyway, Nemuri, can take me to Principal Nezu's office?"

She nods. Olivia looks at all and gently pats him back, before fellowing Nemuri down the hallway.

After a walking down the 3 long ways and up 2 flights of stairs they finally reached the Nezu's office.

"Thanks, Nemuri." said Olivia.

"No problem. Still sorry about being noticed."

"Jeez, relax. Again no biggy. I'll see you later."

Nemuri nods and walks past her.

Olivia stood front of the door, then began knocking softly. Then a soft voice from the other side called.

"Come in."

Olivia reached for the knob and walked into the office.

"Hello, sir."

As she walked into the office. It was a large square space there was in the middle of the room was 2 large couches and small coffee table in the meddle. And in the back of the room was large wooden oak desk, sat a small white... badger bear mouse creature, looking from his paper.

"Ah, Mrs. Aizawa," He puts his pen down, and hops down from his chair. "You finally made it."

"Yes. I do apologize for running a bit late." said Olivia, walking over to the one the couches, and sitting down.

"That is quite alright." said Nezu, was he walking over, to the other couch began pulling himself up to it. "Would care from tea?"

"Yes, please."

Nezu picked the small pot and began poring into a small mug.

"I have been hearing about your great deeps over the last month while you gone helping another agencies tracking small gang members, and doing random acts of kindness and helping those who are in need. No matter how big and small."

"I have been doing what any hero or really anyone would do, sir." said Olivia, picking her mug of tea, and taking small.

"Indeed." said Nezu, taking a few sips himself. "However, you need learn work those you disagree with the most, my dear Valkyrie."

Olivia lowed her mug and looked at him. "... I-I... I guess you heard about what happen Endeavor’s agency?"

"Yes," said Nezu, taking another sip, and lowering his mug as well. "I do understand that Endeavor is rather difficult to work with and being his company wasn’t ideal for, Valkyrie, but you both are heroes, and there times where we cannot fight each other while injustice and villainy still about."

Olivia sat there, and lets out small sigh. "I-I'm... Not going to lie. I am not proud on how I did handle that." She place the mug onto the table. "Endeavor was yelling at some young lady because his tea was not hot enough. He... was yelling and insulting her. I stepped to try to defused the things, then he started with and … well, I snapped.”

"I see." said Nezu. "Again, I do commend you on standing up for that poor young lady. However how you did handle yourself wasn’t best."

"... I know." said Olivia. "But assure you, Nezu, I will be a lot more calm on handle myself. But... I have be honest with you I'm no the only hero who can't stand that guy."

"I understand." said Nezu, with smile. "Here, have cookies." He then pushes small plate of animal cookies to Olivia.

"Oh, no thank you. I had breakfast not that long ago."

"Well, good, then have full stomach while we disgust the importance of team in hero." Then Nezu began to speaking as Olivia sat there blinking.

"Oh, dear, he's going be at this for a bit." Then gives an amuse smile, and pick up her tea. "Well, good thing I ate breakfast before I came here."

After sometime Nezu and Olivia were going the a few things, well, mostly Nezu going over how important teamwork was and other things.

Nezu did ask Olivia about anything about League Of Villains.

"No, I haven't heard anything about them." she said, taking last sip of tea. "I did check back with that Nomu guy back the police station awhile back... And..."

Nezu looked at her, saw her face had darker and looked clearly disturb about.

"What is it, Valkyrie?"

Olivia cliched her fist and swallowed. "I was about to go the police station where Nomu was being held. It hadn't say anything or speak at since it was arrested."

(A Week ago)

Olivia was standing in front the window looking into a large dark gray room, with one light dimly lit. She was saw small metal table where there sat the Nomu that sitting there in both it's hands and feet cuff.

It was sitting there looking at the wall.

"So... They still won't talk at all?" asked Olivia, looking the chief police.

"That's right, woof." said Tsuragamae Kenji. "We've been holding them in temporary confinement for the past few months, and we tried everything to get them to talk, but they refused" Then he looks at Olivia. "If you read their mind and try to get anything on the League Of Villains, how they got into the U.S.J."

"Alright. I'll see what I can get." Olivia said.

Tsuragamae nods at her, and he looks at 3 other polices officers and the 5 slowly walked into the room.

As they walked in The Nomu didn't look up, and even move it's eyes at to notice them. Olivia just stares at them. This was really the first time she had taken a good look at it.

It was a lot larger than she thought, it's sink was black and muscular, it was wearing tight straight jacket. It's beak like mouth was grinning at her, showing it's razor like teeth, and it's brains was exposed, and it's two eyes looking right at her.

As soon as she saw those eyes, Olivia felt a overwhelming since dread in the pit of her chest.

It was looking into the dead eyes of a fish, which made her feel more dread. She Shook her head a bit and cleared her throat.

"I'm Valkyrie. I'm here on behalf the police chief Kenji to help with the on investigation with the League Of Villains." the Nomu.

It did not respond, just looks at her.

She took a few steps. "If you're not going speak then I'm going have read your mind. This is your last chance too come clean and tell us what you know."

Again the Nomu didn't say anything just stared lifelessly at everyone. Taking a few steps closer, Olivia raised her right hand place her on the Nomu's upper arm.

"Minder Reader..." She said, the eyes began to get cloudy.

Chief Kenji and the other 3 officers stood closely watching, after a few moments Olivia didn't say a word then her body started to shaking, and pulls hand away, and takes a few steps, and places both her hands on her head.

"Ahhhhhhhhggggg....!!! I-It hurts… Aggghhhhhh!!!” She takes few steps back, and falls her to her knees.

"V-Valkyrie!" said Chief Kenji, he rushed over to her. “What happened!?

“I-I don’t—-! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHGGHHHH!!!”

It was something a thousand bills were ringing in her head all at once, her vision was getting blurry as she saw bits blood dripping onto the floor and her vision getting blurred and dark.

“SOMEONE CALL A DOCTOR! NOW CALLED!! Order Chief Kenji, as he and one the other cops were helping Olivia.

(The Present)

"... I before I knew it I woke up in the hospital wing of the prison…” said Olivia.

Nezu sat there looking at her, and places his mug of tea on the table. "What was that you saw?"

"Nothing." said Olivia. “There was literally nothing."

There was long pause and Nezu just looked at her. "That is very strange indeed."

He watched for a moment and saw that her face had was pale and she looked very disturbed about the whole situation.

“Are you alright, Valkyrie?” asked Nezu.

“N-No. I-I haven’t been able to shake off the feeling I when I was trying to read the Nomu’s mind…” She pauses, she could her chest tighten as she spoke again. “I could feel anything. No thoughts, no emotions. No since of being at all.”

She placed a hand over head.

“It was like I was standing in a dark small room. With no way out. I-I could feel for a moment, but… I felt cold and trap… Like being in locked in a small room with no way out.”

“Have you told anyone else about this?" asked Nezu.

"I basically told the chief that I could anything info about the League a villains.” Olivia said: I but you’re the only I told about what I have experience. I-I… told Shota on what happen yet. I-I just want to move on from it.”

"I understand. And I do appreciate you telling me about this." Nezu then hops off the couch began walking over to her. "But I think you should tell Aizawa, too.”

Olivia did nod. “I-I will, Sir.”

"Lovely." the little principal. "I do thank you for taking the time too see me on such short notice."

"Of course, principal." said Olivia, giving him a gentle smile. She stood up from the couch and was about to walk away, when Nezu raised his paw.

"Before you leave, Valkyrie, could do small favor?"

"Hm?" Olivia stops and looks at him. He was walking over to desk, and hopped onto the chair. "I have some paper that I'm a bit behind on, and I was wondering if you would be so kind has to take this folder too class 1-A?"

"Sure." Olivia then walks over, and takes the green paper folder, then remember. "Oh, wait... Is this the class that Shota is teaching this year?"

"Why yes it is. Why do you ask?" said Nezu.

"Well, by now the word has gone around that I'm here, and I don't want walk into my husbands classroom and cause a huge fuss." said Olivia.

"Hahahahah. Don't be silly, you still haven't meet his class, have you, Valkyrie?"

"N-No, not really. I just---."

"Then this the perfect opportunity~."

Nezu beams at her, and picks up his pen, and began doing some paper. "Would love to keep chatting, but I have a lot of work that I need to get done."

Olivia was about object, but sighs. "...Okay." She shrugged, takes the folder and began making her out the door, she said a her goodbye as she walked out the door.

"Class A-1..." She looks at the green folder, and smiles. "Finally get meet Shota's class."

She turns her heels and began down the hallway, and stops.

"... I just realize I have no idea why Class A-1 is..."

After a while and getting some directions from Hizashi through text, Olivia stood in front the door of Class A-1, she was about to walk in when she stops.

"I can't just walk in like that, Shota get annoyed at me for disturbing his class, or his nap. I should just knock." As was about to raise her hand when someone called out.

"HOLY CRAP!! SHE IS HERE!!"

"SEE!? I TOLD YOU!!!"

i've just realised — maybe adhd is the reason why bitter things taste fine to me until somebody adds sugar, then they become horrible mouth-twisting involuntarily-shudders-of-disgust experiences

like, whose idea it was to add sugar to tonic / 7up / sprite? it'd be fine on its own, just like tea / coffee is good unless there's sugar put in it

i like making bitter chocolate, but the shop version of it is terrible, for the same reason as the shop tonics are all ugh. chinine would be so good if it weren't mixed with sugar...

why it could be on adhd? well, my nerve system filters out the repetitive / monotonous tastes. if something is just bitter, its bitternes probably won't register much.

add sugar though, and it enhances the bitternes thousandfold
