기생충 2019
You know what kind of plan never fails? No plan. No plan at all. You know why? Because life cannot be planned. Look around you. Did you think these people made a plan to sleep in the sports hall with you? But here we are now, sleeping together on the floor. So, there's no need for a plan. You can't go wrong with no plans. We don't need to make a plan for anything. It doesn't matter what will happen next. Even if the country gets destroyed or sold out, nobody cares. Got it?

Obsessed
This movie is set in the 1969 during the Vietnam War that affect all the soldiers that fought in it, regardless of their nationality. Kim Jin Pyeong is married to the daughter of one of his superiors. They get along but there is not love from his part. A new couple joins the army community and he falls for Jong Ka Heun. To me, the title really describes the relationship between Kim Jin Pyeong and Jong Ka Heun. He is obsessed and this need he has ends in his demise. But more than the story of these two lovers, what interested me was the power game among the military wives, who helped their husbands climb positions in the militia through flattery and exercising their influence over other women in their small circle. Kim Jin Pyeong's wife is a woman of power within this circle. The daughter of a superior and married to a hero of the Vietnam War, Lee Sook Jin puts in her place a woman who is older than her. She befriends Jong Ka Heun because they are both the only childless women in their small group. Lee Sook Jin knows how to play the game and wants to help her husband get a promotion but he is not interested in playing the game; meanwhile, Jong Ka Heun's husband, Kyung Woo Jin, uses his beautiful wife's body to gain the attention of the older men who can give him commissions that will translate into a higher position. It was disgusting how he forced his wife to dance with an old man who touched her inappropriately and insisted she dress in a way, they both knew the other wives would disapprove of.
In the end Lee Sook Jin divorces Kim Jin Pyeong even when she is finally pregnant. She values herself enough to let go of a man that doesn't love her and move on. Kim Jin Pyrong wants to be with Jong Ka Heun but she doesn't love him enough to break free from a toxic marriage and lets him go.
As I watched this story unfold, I couldn't help thinking about A Man and a Woman. In a way both films have the same outcome; where the person most invested in the affair lost everything for a love that was not truly returned because those they had loved against society and what they knew was right, didn't give up their comfortable lives and families for that prohibited love.
It was an interesting film.
