Rook Hunt french list of endearment nicknames
As the french I am maybe that would interest some people about your dear "Le chasseur de l'amour" vocabulary!! I will not ....translate those nicknames (I mean you can still ask me of course) as there are not equivalent one sometimes!! I would say just feel and vibe if some catch your mind~ I tried to classify them by their meaning You don't have to be in a romantic relationship for using those one (blame the french behavior as we are said to be flirty around the world....)
(gn)= gender neutral
(m)= male
(f)= female
Obviously you don't have to follow any gender orientation, it's just that french vocabulary have different names for gender (beside the world itself being male or female..)! Some words are gender specified but can also be used as gender neutral on some occasions!!
Let's go:
ma biche (f)/ bichette (f)/ mon biquet (m)/ mon bichon(m)
[ma poule (f/gn)/ mon poulet (m)]/ poulette (f)/ mon poussin (gn)/ poussinou (gn)
mon chat (gn TW: don't use the female word for cat (chatte) as it turns out to be vulgar here, just to let you know)/ mon chaton (gn)/ mon minet (m)
doudouce (gn/f)/ doudou (gn/m)/ dididou (gn)/ ma douce (f/gn)/ [ma dulcinée (f)/ mon dulciné (m)]
mon amour (gn)/ mon coeur (gn)/ mon petit coeur de beurre (gn)/ mamour gn)/ ma moitié (gn)
mon canard (gn/m)/ mon canari (gn)/ ma caille (gn/f)/ mon caneton (gn)
mon lapin (gn)/ lapinou (gn)/ 'pinou (gn)
chouchou (gn)/ mon chou (gn/m)/ choupette (f/gn)/ choupinette (f)
ma puce (gn/f)/ pupuce (f/gn)
mon sucre d'orge (gn), mon biscuit (gn), ma tagada (gn), mon nounours (gn)/ mon bonbon (gn)/ ma craquotte (gn)/ ma sucrette (f/gn)/ mon macaron (gn)
mon bijou (gn/f)/ ma perle (gn/f)/ mon trésor (gn)/ mon rayon de soleil (gn)/ lumière de ma vie (gn)
ma vie (gn..... this one...omg this one is used by the youngster here.... it makes them feel so deep....so adult ha ha)
[mon joli (m)/ ma jolie (f)]/ ma beauté (f/gn)
mon bouchon (gn)/ mon roudoudou (gn/m)/ mon bisounours (gn)
loulou (gn/m)
[mon chéri (m)/ ma chérie (f)]
ma muse (f/gn)/ [ma princesse (f)/ mon prince (m)]/ [mon bien-aimé (m)/ ma bien-aimée (f)]
ma colombe (f/n)/ ma tourterelle (f/gn)/ ma gazelle (f)
ma pomme d'amour (gn) SPECIAL POMEFIORE ONE for this one ha ha or reinette (f)
bébé (gn)/ bibou (gn)/ mon ange (gn)
[ma brune (f)/ mon brun (m)]/ beauté fatale (gn/f)/ nenette (f)
poupoune (f)/ poupo(u)nette (f)
chipie (f)/ ma loute (f/gn)/ [pitchou (m/gn)/ pichounette (f)]
pépette (f)/ poupette (f)/ pipou (m)
bout de chou (-> bout d'chou) (gn)/ mon trogon d'amour (m/gn)
mon étoile (gn)/ ma grenouille (gn)/ mon soleil (gn)/ ma crevette (gn: Literally shrimp)/ mon arc-en-ciel (gn)
And so many more... just ask me if you want some explanation on some! Or even more ha ha
Also for more cuteness and love you can add before:
mon petit (for male vocabulary french word not gender (yes...it's weird or hard for non french speaker))
ma petite (for female vocabulary word not gender)
Or ptit or 'tit (the cutest way to show your love and friendship with someone or when you're speaking to children)
exemple:
Mon 'tit chat
Petit bout de chou
Ma petite chipie -> verryyyy similar somehow to little trickster...well close enough for female gender oriented! It would be "fripon" for male gender oriented.
And you? In your native language?
I actually love to use "darling" with people I love around me!!

Never recovering from Minky as a nickname, does Lestat ever use it in anyone else's hearing and does the whole court have to not react if he does? Also what other nicknames does he use and has Louis ranked them best to worst?
Re: this post
Oh yeah absolutely he does. And loudly enough to make sure everyone hears it because he's a dog marking his territory and also a doofus in love. He doesn't care if it's a council meeting, a court hearing, or an inner circle movie night, that's his nasty little baby.
Still, it's extra fun to call him minky or Loulou in court when everyone else is restricted to Monsieur de Pointe du Lac or MAYBE Louis (if you're Armand, Daniel, or Gabs, not Marius or David though). And yes, a straight face is mandatory. No one is allowed to laugh at the prince consort except his husband (maybe Daniel).
He has plenty of other silly little pet names ranging from stupid to sweet including lapinou (bunny), jolie (pretty one), mon colombe (my dove), chaton (kitten), mon lys (my lily), chouchou (pet), or anything else he can think of on the spot.
Of course the basics are in there too, more than his real name. Mon cher, chéri, mon amour, etc. Those are less evocative though.
Louis has mixed feelings about being called any nicknames in front of other people (though he does enjoy laying his claim through Lestat’s obvious affection). The dumber ones make him roll his eyes even if he's a tiny bit flattered, but he does have a soft spot for the more romantic, personal ones that are a genuine expression of love, especially in private when it's not a performance.

French terms of endearment
I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I read a really interesting post about diminutives in Polish today, so I thought I’d finally sit down and write this!
So for all your fic-writing (and RL romancing) needs, here is a round-up of French diminutives!
A couple caveats:
1) This is France-French; other Francophone parts of the world use different terms--with some overlap, probably, but idk how much;
2) This is based on my own experience as a native French speaker who’s lived in France most of my life, and on some research, but obviously is not a Definitive Exhaustive list!
3) These would I think be used mostly in established couples. Generally speaking, French people don’t tend to over-use terms like these (they were described in one article I read as a “tue l’amour” (love killer, turn-off), with which I personally agree, and you definitely wouldn’t call someone you just started dating any of these. Excessive use of those will quickly be perceived as childish, sappy, or in some cases--when used by men--queer-coded in a very specific way (over-use of “ma/mon chéri(e) for example is part of the stereotype of older, more feminine gay men, à la Nathan Lane in “The Birdcage.”)
Anyway, here we go!
The classics (neutral, classy, pretty much unisex; can’t really go wrong with those):
Mon coeur - my heart (apparently the #1 most-used term here in France)
Mon amour - my love
Mon ange - my angel
(Mon) Trésor - (my) treasure
(Mon) Chéri/(ma) Chérie - my darling (literally: my beloved)
These last two ones will work either with or without the possessive: you might say “Tu dors, chéri?” or “Tu dors, mon chéri?” (are you sleeping, honey?) but you wouldn’t say “Tu dors, coeur/amour/ange?”
Also, except for “mon amour,” these will work for couples ofc, but could also be used by a parent talking to their child, for example.
I could also include “mon beau” (M) and “ma belle/ma beauté” (F) (my beautiful one) but they seem to me to be in a slightly different category of “things you say to flatter someone in the moment” vs “names you would consistently call your partner.” That might be just me though.
The cutesy animal/vegetable names (generally gendered, may sound ridiculous depending on period/location/register/type of relationship between the people):
Gender-neutral:
(Mon) canard - my duck
(Mon) lapin - my bunny
Mon chat/(mon) chaton - my cat/my kitten
(Mon) poussin - my chick
Mon chou - my cabbage
For women:
Ma puce - my flea
Ma biche(tte) - my doe
Ma caille - my quail
(Ma) poule(tte)/(ma) cocotte - my hen, my little hen
(Ma) biquette - my (cute) goat
Ma colombe - my dove
Ma gazelle - my gazelle
For men:
Mon minet - my (male) cat
(Mon) bichon - my bichon frisé (frankly I wouldn’t use it myself, but hey.)
Mon loup - my wolf
You can add “petit(e)” in front of those to make them cuter -- “mon petit loup,” “ma petite puce” (my little wolf, my little flea) -- but then depending on context, you run the risk of making them sound like they’re meant for small children. This is also what the “diminutive” -(e)tte suffix achieves at the end of words like “poulette” : my little hen.
”Mon petit, ma petite” also work to make almost any word into a cute one: “ma petite loutre, mon petit gorille,” (my little otter, my little gorilla) or whatever; it will also make already cute words into even cuter ones: “mon petit coeur, mon petit trésor.” Beware though, all those sound more like a mother consoling a child than two adults having a normal conversation or trying to be romantic.
For men, you would typically add “grand” or “gros” instead -- “mon gros minet,” (my fat tabby) “mon grand loup” (my big wolf) -- because women get to be infantilized and called little, but men need their ego flattered, toxic masculinity blah blah blah.
For extra EXTRA lovey-dovey-ness you might even add “d’amour” at the end: “mon petit lapin d’amour” = my little love bunny, “mon gros ourson d’amour” = my big love bear. You can use the formula to make a funny in-jokey term of endearment out of almost any noun if you try hard enough: I wouldn’t bat an eye at someone calling their partner “mon petit cachet d’aspirine d’amour,” (my little love aspirin tablet) or “ma petite crevette d’amour” (my little love shrimp) or whatever; I’d just assume that’s Their Thing for some reason.
The random and/or weird stuff (often gendered, often based on private jokes; they sometimes just sound like a bunch of random repeated syllables--and sometimes they are. Mostly you won’t hear this said with a straight face unless it’s a private joke that’s gone on for so long that it seems normal to them now--definitely will make outsiders roll their eyes if overheard.)
Mon chouchou/mon choupinou (M) /ma choupinette (F) (riffs on “petit chou”)
(Mon) doudou (from the Antilles dialect: my pretty young woman), mon gros doudou/mon roudoudou
(Ma) pupuce (riff on “puce”)
(Mon) loulou (M)/(ma) louloutte/(ma) lolotte (F) (who knows, prob a riff on “loup” originally)
(Mon) (gros) nounours (M - my big teddy bear)
Ma poupée (F - my doll)
Ma douce (F - my sweet)
Please don’t use this one I beg you (I mean obvs do what you want but ugh):
(Mon) bébé
Finally, remember that the possessive (mon, ma) gets chosen according to the gender of the noun it refers to: LE loup = MON loup, LA biche = MA biche. There are more feminine terms used to talk about women & more masculine terms for men, but grammatically it’s not about the gender of the person you’re talking about (French is horribly, rigidly gendered and it’s really hard to talk to/about non-binary/agender people but that’s a conversation for another time.)
I hope you found this informative! If you have questions or need someone to French-pick your fic, you know where to find me :p

Arsene refers to close loved ones with French terms of endearment. Akira is always referred to as 'mon petit' or 'mon chouchou' if he's feeling cute. Captain Kidd is a typical 'mon cœur' [my heart] or 'mon trésor' [my treasure]. Ryuji is 'mon loup' [my wolf] or 'mon loulou' if he's feeling cute again.
Jhfjkdjdjh that's so fucking cute oh my god.
