You know what obnoxious thing I keep seeing in fandom I wish would stop? This absolute need some people seem to have for their ship to be Representation in some way. Shipping is just imagining scenarios between two characters! You don’t need it to be a Special reason or whatever? I have a ship that is popular and people make weird vague comments about how the fandom is racist because both of them are white and there are other ship options that have poc so the white ship being big is a reflection on how racist the fandom is but the thing is…

Look I’m going to be real with y’all the fandom is for the game Detroit: Become Human and let’s just say the two major black characters are basically stereotypes written by a neocon lib boomer in a story that itself is imho…let’s call it tone deaf and corny af rather than overtly racist but yeah. Black folks on twitter regularly mock this game for good reason. It is very much a boomer white man’s idea of the civil rights movement but with robots. The robots sing actual slave hymns. The main character is essentially a light-skinned Martin Luther King Jr (dubbed Markus Luthur King by blktwt lol) and the religious allegories of him as a savior figure are very on the nose. It is bad lol. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to explore the black characters but the fandom is full of young white people singing the praises of this writing while patting themselves on the back about it which is genuinely uncomfortable to be around. Just my 2 cents but the virtue signaling and insane policing around those two characters makes it unbearable to interact with their content it is deeply sanitized and you WILL get death threats if you attempt any nuance or are critical of the (kinda racist imo) way they were written in canon.

The worst part of this is that Markus has a popular ship with a character a lot of people read or interpret as a more soft or femme gay man and you know what zoomers hate? Femme gay men. So obviously this is made to be ‘problematic’ in some way because these people can’t just admit to being femmphobic/homophobic themselves.

Sometimes it’s easier to stick with the boring white characters in the background because they aren’t being closely guarded by stupid reactionary people who are used to flashing their favorite fictional poc characters as tokens of their own goodness and virtue.

The pinnacle of this game is that moment when the black lady lectures her son about why they need to run the robot underground railroad to Canada.

I watched some playthroughs. Unsurprisingly, I liked the buddy cops with the good development, not the cringey activism plot with too many foils and not enough development of any single relationship and not the the Women Care About Babies plot.

But if I were going to do something fannish with Markus, I'd write him having a fucked up relationship with his mentor's son post game—the surrogate son who thought the guy was great and the estranged son who knew he wasn't but who has also done a bunch of shitty stuff himself.

It's especially hilarious when tryhards think the problem is not enough people shipping Markus with North as if the slashers are going to be into 1. het and 2. yet another unnecessary traumatic sex stuff backstory for a lady.

Even worse, half the whining isn't even about that Nines fanon nonsense being more popular than Markus: it's about how Markus/Connor would be better than Hank/Connor because old people are ew.

Sorry, children, a lot of people are here to thirst for Clancy Brown and because they'll turn up for any Caves of Steel ripoff. Other Connor ships were never in the running.

There was another space last night. Only found out about it this morning and apparently they mentioned a dog animatronic named Ringo. Could you do a recap on it?

OK twitter space recap again. Just for clarity, a lot of these answers are effectively verbatim, but have been chopped down for clarity and to remove some less relevant information.

-Someone asks what the hardest part of making an episode is and Martin goes 'Fucking, coming up with what's gonna happen in it.' And talks about how like, if TWF4 took three years to make, half the time was just preproduction and him figuring out what the hell was going to happen. He talks about how TWF4 was originally going to be a return to form for the series, and then one day he woke up and thought about it and was like "this is fucking shit." and that's when he decided to make it more cinematic.

-Someone asks if TWF4 will have Spanish subtitles, and Martin says no, because writing the English ones was a pain and he doesn't want to go through that again.

-Somebody asks who Martin would cast for Brian if The Walten Files was a live action series, and Kyle extends the question to 'Who would you cast for Everyone?'. They spend the next while just spitballing answers, which I've condensed here:

Kyle thinks it'd be fun to cast Jack as "Weird" Al Yankovic, and Martin thinks that's funny. He doesn't know who he would cast for Jack. Martin says Brian would be "The guy from Whiplash", who is Miles Teller.

Martin says Derek Collins would be Michael Mckean, but Kyle picks Clancy Brown.

Kyle says Charles should be Adam Driver.

Martin says Felix would be Michael Douglas as he is in Falling Down, and says that he's always thinking of him whenever he goes to draw Felix.

Martin says Sophie would be Ally Sheedy as she is in The Breakfast Club, and how Allison Reynolds (Ally Sheedy's character in The Breakfast Club) was in part inspiration for Sophie's character. Secondary pick Martin gives is Mia Goth, but says they aren't the same in the face or the mannerisms, just that Mia Goth would make a good portrayal of the character because she's such a good actress.

Martin picks Shelley Duvall for Rosemary, saying again that they don't really look alike, but that she'd do a great job portraying the character. Kyle says a young Jane Kaczmarek would make a good Rosemary, too, and Martin mentions that he could also see a very young Carol Burnett, "...because she has a very smile-shaped smile."

Martin says that they aren't at all the same physically, but that Tina Parker would make a great Susan. Inspired heavily by her role in Better Call Saul.

-Martin hems and haws for a bit about who a good Jenny would be, saying that it's difficult, because she has such a particular face. On the topic, Kyle brings up how fans so often portray Jenny as "chubby", and how that's really impacted how he thinks of Jenny as a character, where he imagines the fanon version of her before even the canon one.

Martin agrees like, "This kinda influenced the way I draw her. I've been drawing concept art for Jenny recently and I noticed I've started drawing her a little chubbier. Not to the extent of the fanon, but the way I look at the character has changed a lot because of the way the fandom draws her... But I could definitely see Jenny as a chubby character, she just has that vibe." (<-Mostly paraphrased)

-Martin and Kyle say they both keep running into a funny problem where they google Charles using his full name, and wonder why all of the results just call him 'Charles Walten Files', forgetting that his full name is not public information yet.

-Martin says that if there was anything he would change about The Walten Files, he'd make Bon less adjacent to Bonnie from Five Nights at Freddy's. He says he wishes he'd made Bon a dog named Ringo, and that the name "Ringo" has a specific lore reason behind it (Unrelated to. The Beatles.)

-Martin talks about how when he first named Bon's Burgers, he thought he was being really clever, because in French "Bon" means "Good", so it was like calling it "Good Burgers".

-Someone asks what Martin would rename Bon's Burgers to if Bon's name had been different, and he says he'd call it "Wonderland".

-Martin gives a story about him actually seriously injuring himself opening a can of Palmitos, slicing his palm open and needing to get stitches, but how the main thing he was worried about was it keeping him from releasing TWF4 on time, and how he was really scared of the fan reaction of like, 'he always fucking does this, he always delays the episode', before he talked to some friends and calmed down about it. This all happened like less than a week ago. He tells everyone not to worry to much about it, that he's still in some pain, but he's fine.

-Someone asks about the "Bontest", the contest where people could submit their original characters to appear briefly in TWF4, and Martin says that he plans to work on it last, as a reward for himself.

-Someone asks if a Welcome to Bon's Burgers remake could ever happen, Martin answers: "No. I would have wanted to, but I'm really trying to stay, like, legally distinct from Five Nights at Freddys. So no more Welcome to Bon's Burgers, ever."

-Martin asks Kyle, "Is Charles mean? or nice?" and Kyle says he thinks Charles has like. Fun Uncle energy. That he's the sort of person you'd maybe think was mean, but that he's ultimately pretty silly and laid-back. He calls him the type of person to doodle in the margins of his work.

-Someone asks if Boozoo is a magician or a ringmaster, and Martin says that he is both. When he's not on stage, he falls into the ringmaster persona, but when he's performing he's doing magic tricks and the like. He switches between both.

-"Boozoo has a mechanism where he can take off his hat, and there's a very tiny plush rabbit in his hat"

-"Will we ever get to know how Jenny and Sophie met and/or became a couple?" "Yes. We will see it in the series, I have the whole thing planned out. Yippie!"

-Martin talks about how when making WTBB, he went through a phase where he really hated Banny, and took her out of the game. Then he was like, fuck, I need a new girl character, and that's why he created Sha.

-"Who has been your favorite character to develop personality-wise and role-wise?" "Felix Kranken. I fucking love but I fucking hate Felix kranken... I feel like the viewer keeps indirectly giving Felix chances, like, to make things right. And you will see how he uses those chances."

-Someone asks for a Felix Fact, and Kyle jokes that he smells bad. Martin says he disagrees, and that he thinks Felix smells like car air freshener.

-Actual Felix Fact: He loves Louis Wain's paintings, and has many in his office. Martin says he really connects with the story around them, and that he also feels a deep connection to cats.

-"How many takes did the phone call in BunnyFarm take to get right? Was the wavering in Jack's voice before he got angry intentional?" "It took three takes and yeah, yes it was. I did one take that was like, screaming angry, and another one was very whispery, and then i got the version that was used." They talk for a bit and then Martin goes "I think Jack here like, works best when he's not like, exaggerated, but you can tell that he's on the verge of just-- punching you fucking skull, but he doesn't like, explode. And it's this tension of like, when will we see this character like, genuinely lose his mind, yknow?"

-Someone asks if Bon could ever learn to like or be nice to Banny, and Martin says that if the showstoppers had any kind of linear story then he would probably grow to be nicer to her eventually, but because they're in like an episodic thing where everything resets, he's just gonna hate her forever

-Linda Lore: This isn't necessarily canon, but Martin kinda imagines that she'd move out of hurricane after only a couple of weeks because it's such a ghost town, so she moves to Nashville end ends up starting a family there and having two children.

-My question! I asked Kyle and Martin what musicians/bands they listen to. Kyle lists Gorillaz, Tally Hall, and Tenacious D. Martin lists MF Doom, Tyler, the Creator, and Canserbero.

-Martin mentions an incident with Bon's Burgers where a guy showed up and stood on a table demanding to eat pizza, and stayed there for 20 hours demanding to eat pizza.

-Martin imagines a funny scenario where Charles' car breaks down on the way to work and Jack gives him a ride. Charles asks to listen to some music, and Jack starts playing "obscure 30s music", and Charles is like, "what the fuck?", while Jack is bobbing his head like he's listening to heavy metal.

-Someone asks if there's any Autistic characters in The Walten Files, and Kyle brings up his personal headcanon that both Sophie and Jenny have autism, but that Jenny has it comorbid with ADHD. Martin mentions that it's actually canon that Charles has ADHD, and how it was one of the first things he decided on for his character.

-Kyle specifically asks if there's any Walten Files characters Martin can imagine being Autistic, and Martin gives a long answer I've written out as follows:

"Okay, so, this is really complicated, but the episode 5 draft is finished, and I sent it to Eva, and- this episode has a bigger focus on Sophie, episode 5, and I think a lot of things- Eva- I talked a lot about it with Eva, and she mentioned how Sophie, was like, had many many traits that imply that she is autistic.

And, while I said yes, that the intention was to like, sorta allude to it? I would never confirm it because I wouldn't be able to represent it properly. I would never be able to fully represent it, because it's not an experience I've gone through. But there's a lot of like, unintentional double meaning with Autism, with like, what's going on in her head and how like, she behaves, in a way?

But I feel like, from what Eva told me, from her experience as an Autistic person, she told me it was a really good representation, for like, the character. Even if it wasn't intentional, because she's never represented as like, mentally unstable, or not fit to, like-not competent... But you can still see some of her personal struggles in her behavior."

-They talk for a while about how Kyle likes to think that Boozoo is gay, but he's not especially a fan of the relatively popular ship between him and Bon. Martin says that a better Boozoo ship idea could maybe be Pete the Hippo, provided that the recasted his VA.

-On the same topic, Martin agrees that Boozoo and Bon would be a bad ship idea, because he doesn't like the idea of Bon being with anybody who he treats poorly, and how this is the reason why he really tries to be nice to Sha, even if he isn't especially good at it. Martin mentions that the thing that really makes Bon like Sha is that she's the one person who can really tell him off, and for a while he was a little scared of her.

-Martin talks about a funny showstoppers story he's thought of, where Banny gets a crush on a girl from school and Boozoo and Sha help her work up the courage to ask her out, but the girl is just so unapologetically mean to Banny and totally breaks her heart, and so all the showstoppers come to defend Banny, and they go and beat up this teenager on her behalf.

-Someone asks for a "Susan Fun Fact" but typos it as "Susan Gun Fact". Martin says that Susan would think that the American attitude towards guns and gun control is one of the things most wrong with the United States. Kyle says it'd be funny if she was the type to believe that, but then own a gun anyway.

-Martin says that he really loves Susan's voice, and thinks it's so perfect for her character.

I had an interesting convo this night. I think I'll be collecting such comments so no one says that fatherson fans can be good.

Honestly, I would be glad if such people just unfollowed the tag.

Hank and Connor are partners and co-workers and have relationships as friends. And THAT is canon, and yes, friends can become lovers. It's in the game. And majority who? People with daddy issues or biased assholes? There are so many really silly ships and problematic ships in the fandom yet people chose to hate on most comfort and sweet characters? It is getting old.

And again that stupid argument they have, the only one.

If someone's problem is a visual age gap then it is just biases, not the ship is bad. Hank doesn't see Connor this way, he himself calls Connor his partner and Connor calls Hank his friend. And people should finally learn that calling someone son means nothing special. Son is often used by older people to refer to younger people. It doesn't mean you see the other person as a son. Didn't those antis see a cop at Rose's house calls Adam a son? It doesn't make the cop Adam's dad. Literally: SPOKEN a friendly way of addressing a boy or a man who is younger than you. Nothing more. They were never a father and a son.

Yeah, people may see them however they like, but insulting those who see them as lovers? While shipping the ships that weren't even there at the same time? And no. Hank is NOT old, Hank is 53 and Connor is an android and maybe for antis it is a surprise, but there are a lot of couples with the age gap, and it is normal. Or they are saying that older people cannot be loved, fall in love or have sex? Well, they can. It only says that the antis like this one are ageists with really odd daddy issues.

And I have the whole game to back, considering how much chemistry Hank and Connor have. Everything what I keep hearing from antis is still "son" which doesn't even prove anything😂 There is nothing wrong If two adults love each other. Even if there are age gaps.

Sorry to break you, but I do not care, considering that Clancy Brown, who was Hank said Hank didn't consider Connor a son. And yeah, I believe the game, not the actors who just try to be nice to their audience. The game says they are friends or kill each other, so I have all rights to say they are f*cking😂

So what are these kids trying to prove? The game says they are friends and co-workers, and people who see them as lovers HAVE the right to see them as lovers.

And if I was shipped with such a sexy old man as Hank, I would be only happy😂. And once again, there ARE A LOT OF COUPLES with a huge age gap and it IS NORMAL if both are consensual adults. And no. HankCon is NOT wrong. HankCon particularly doesn’t hurt anyone. It’s not wrong. If anything, it is all kinds of right and love and it bridges the gap between humans and androids in the DBH universe.

As well as Hank never saw him as a son. Oh, and I post on tik tok and if there are biased people, I just tell them to mind their own buisiness or get some help😂

And honestly? Personally, I think it's time for those who ship Hank and Connor as lovers to stop being nice. It's time to just tell these people to go fuck themselves. It's time to just make more content with Hank and Connor fucking (each time the antis say they are father and son especially), with Hank and Connor living happily as husbands, with Hank and Connor being crazy about each other. And the more the better.

Each opinion is valid? No. This fandom proves that all the opinions are valid if it is not HankCon.

Too much hypocrisy, too many double standards. People threaten other people because Hank and Connor love each other? Seriously? While there are more absurd problems in the world? I believed and will continue to believe that every time this happens, hankcon shippers need to ignore this, but openly shout to the whole world that HankCon is worthy of living, worthy of existing, that the world needs such couples, that this is the best pairing in the world and if the majority thinks othervise? Well, they can go fuck themselves. Maybe it's time to stop being quiet? Maybe it's time to stop tolerating such an attitude towards a really worthy ship? Maybe it's time to start screaming about how beautiful and amazing it is?

Being a fan of Hank and Connor is kinda funny/weird to me when I happen to also not like the game they come from.

I love the dynamic of a jaded human detective slowly coming to accept and love his enthusiastic robot son. I'll read countless fics, reblog and save multiple fan art, revisit old fan comics (some of which are still ongoing), rewatch interviews of Clancy Brown and Bryan DeChart talk about their characters, revisit DBH playthroughs and compilations of just Hank and Connor, etc.

But I will never play DBH. Nor do I enjoy the actual game/rest of the story unless it's those specific moments with Hank and Connor. And that's what is so weird to me. Every fandom experience I've had before has been me diving completely into a piece of media, fully invested in the world and the other characters. Most of the time I'll become invested in the behind the scenes aspects in regards to the creators/artists/writers/etc. I'll take time out of my day to watch countless interviews and even visit the fandom wiki multiple times just to see if there's something new I've missed. But with DBH, I just stay at surface level. And that's ... odd.

And absolutely no hate to the people that do like DBH or the other characters for that matter. I personally just haven't had an experience with any other piece of media where I've felt this way before.

Specifically, the level of adoration I have for just two characters and literally nothing else about the world they live in or the other characters they come across. To me, that's weird.

Update: Decided to go back and clarify some things. I genuinely mean no harm to those who like DBH and I have no intention of bringing up old discussions of the game. I was honestly just trying to express my personal feelings in regard to my fandom experiences and why I found it interesting/strange that my relationship with DBH is so different.

Do you base your Mettaton only on canon or do you have any favorite headcanons borrowed from fandom. Like, do you have any voices (voiceactors etc) that you think are perfect for him?

I'm not just asking about MTT, but about other UT/DR characters as well!

I mostly (try to) base him on canon, although I have so many headcanons about him now that he's basically my own character haha. Mostly stuff taken from my dreams or own ideas tho, I don't really tend to borrow unless it fits my very specific vision that I developed for him. But I do have a few headcanons that I borrowed from others. Like the plug tail. Or that he tastes make-up, nailpolish and hair products to test their quality. Or that his eyes flash red when he's angry. Or that he's aro and pansexual, although idk if I borrowed that.. I think it's actually my own. I just didn't really think about it until I saw other people bring it up as well. Hm. Or that he can feel ALL of his mechanics cause he like. literally became his body. Or that he's ticklish. Those two may or may not correlate. Or cooling fans. Sort of like the ones computers have. As in, instead of blushing his fans start to whirr to try and cool him down. I've seen it in some fanfictions and since it appeared in one of my dreams too it's basically canon to me.

As for the voice.. In Mettaton's case, I got a rather complex, VERY specific headcanon voice for him (mostly based on what he sounds like in my dreams) and I haven't heard anyone sound close enough to it. As for the other UT characters, I conducted a research (stole other people's headcanons basically xD), and made a list of voice(actor)s for them, behold:

2022 Fanfiction Reading Challenge

September Stats

Hello everybody! How was your September?! Where I live we have a very very short autumn - so we’re enjoying our brief moment of golden trees and crisp air. Finally got our fence up and our grass is gorgeous. It’s almost too cold for hammocks, but we’re doing our best.

Thank you for being wonderful friends during my NY trip. I got SO many messages and suggestions about where to go and what to eat. I love you all for that. It was a short but amazing trip. I read a lot on the plane - and walked a LOT once we got there (47km in 3 days) - my feet were SO swollen. I saw all the things. So many bridges! It was so fun and I can’t wait until I can get back there. I have several friends in Jersey and I waved at you guys from afar. <3 <3 <3

Fandom-wise, I’m still working on my Hard (79/87) and Extreme(59/65) challenges at the @fanfic-reading-challenge - I need to read a bunch of “Fandom Event” fics. Which events should I read? What is your favourite fandom event?

Also - as per usual, here are a few recs for the month. If you have any favourite stories (that you loved reading or even that you wrote - in any fandom), please let me know. I’d love to know what you’ve been reading and I never complain about new stories to read.

Why you should read it: FAKE DATING! And NOBODY DIES!

The Fourth Estate by catie56 (24/24 - Fitzwilliam Darcy/Lizzie)

Summary: There are people who believe that romantic connections are the province of fate and destiny, the result of an alignment of constellations and conditions that bring two people together. Others tend to discuss falling in love as the product of rational decisions that acknowledge attraction and compatibility. Some people, however, seem to think these two seemingly-opposite perspectives are really just two sides of the same coin. Sometimes, after all, destiny just requires that two people make a single choice. A modern/AU Pride & Prejudice.

Why you should read it: SUPER funny - and the characterizations are spot on - despite it being a modern AU where Darcy is famous and the paparazzi accidentally catches him standing next to Lizzie and think they’re together. A real delight.

The Elusive Elenor Clancy & The Story by @darknessaroundus (Bughead)

Summary: 1. Betty's lived in Willowdale for over a decade. She has a life there, a routine filled with writing, cooking, the twins, and secretly supplementing the income of the Andrews-Brown Organic farm.If only her family didn't want that steady life to change. 2. Five times Jughead was asked about his leg, and one time he told the truth.

Why you should read it: I really really love C’s writing - and this is a really fun series. I really love Betty’s growth and Jughead is adorable. It was a seriosuly delightful reread. Do yourself a favour and indulge tonight!

Brainy! Hi! So, the villainous romance of the century starts now? This early? Damn, my memory is truly shit.

The CD-Rom cracked me up. Also made me feel old.

Also Lex continues to have balls of steel. Alien space ship and a silent invitation for one person? You bet he's gonna jump right on that, the maniac.

Lex, making high ranking military officers float during your hearing is not the greatest idea you've ever had. You're Tony Stark-ing it, aren't you?

"Have you been to Krypton?" "I *AM* Krypton."

Clark has a really cute room. Also, someone produce flat screen TV with that design, it looks fun.

Well look at that, Clark is having a real Conversation with Lex

Holy shit, Brainiac design is insane. I love it.

The Fortress of Solitude! This episode, I absolutely loved. The imagery of Clark experiencing the other worlds and their fate was absolutely stellar; him standing there on lone pedestal of rock, literally and figuratively separated from the people. Damn, it was beautiful. Brainiac downloading stuff - and himself - Into Lex's systems once again reached into body horror territory, dropping the illusion of human-shape and it was amazing. Superman and Lex more or less worked together (-ish?) for the very first time (neat!) and I do like the portrayal of Lex as a villain who can stop and actually listen and acknowledge the warning and then share some of his own cards, just to be safe. Which was a great idea. Also a proof how out of his depth Lex currently is; without Superman he was sitting ducks and there's a long way before he becomes the man who talk circles around aliens and rob them blind of their technology. (Also why the hell Lex is the Fandom Bicycle here? We've got ex Lex/Lois, we had the very obvious enemy ship Lex/Supes jut a moment ago and now the villainous romance of the century appears for the first time. not that I'm not enjoying it, Lex is my magnificent bastard of a meow meow)

Anyhow yeah, I'm loving it. Nice foreshadowing, great visuals, Clancy Brown sounds amazing

Jon Sims: The dumbest Archivist i have ever listened to, but i love him

Martin: The Archivists voice of reason in most cases

Michael: what happens when that one really stubborn door in your house becomes sentient, but not in a good way.

Gerard Keay: I love this man because he was so bad at being goth the first thing he's ever described as was "some wanna be tough guy with a poor dye job."

Hades:

Hermes: He's fast and bubbly, but also knows a little too much about everything

Charon: He's tall dark and ominous. But he's always looking out for Zag, and Hermes

Achilles: Honestly the way his storybis told in this game is heartwrenching and that's so much of why i love him. He could be bitter and angry over it but instead he's just quietly resigned to it willing to wait it out.

Patroclus: Biceps... and his voice. He shares Achilles circumstance and is a lot more despondent about it

Dionysus: Thighs. For. Days. His voice is also very nice.

Ares: his voice, the voice acting this game is amazing, but his in particular scratches an itch.

Detroit Becom Human:

Hank: I relate to him on a personal level, but also Clancy Brown is just a beautiful man.

Connor: He's ruthless, i know the fandom tends to smolbeanify him, but what i love the most is that he gives exactly 0 shits at any given time.

Daniel: He was desperate and didnr want to ve replaced, and i can also kinda relate to that.
