SUBLIME CINEMA #623 - THE NEW WORLD
I love The New World and the mix of a formal style and a more experimental, looser style that marks the later films of Terrence Malick. People are divided about this one. I’m an admirer.
It is profoundly observant and works as an epic meditation on love and nature. I could sit and watch this all day long and always get lost in it, and then get so much out of it back.
Emmanuel Lubezki really came to prominence with this one.

Okay my Discord friend and I (The Batman fans) were talking about The Lighthouse and I said Robert Pattinson looks slightly like Ned Flanders in that movie.
Anyway here is my fan cast for the Live Action Simpsons Movie starring the cast of The Batman:

Film after film: The Batman (dir. Matt Reeves, 2012)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This film is super dark, which is why the stills look unimpressive, but it is a great watch. Reeves proposes a still-big but somehow pared down version of the well-known story, with most performances notably quieter than their predecessors. The broadest one is Dano's, but the actor's face appears for the first time really far into the film - he adds some comic-book extra-looney tone, when it's firmly settled in its grimey, droney, and somber style. Pattinson and Kravitz are great protagonists, who don't relay on annoying winks (as Hathaway did) or on laughable heavy-metal growl (horrible, horrible Bale). They play straight and focused to the point that their psychological motivation is clear without it being constantly alluded to. I'm looking forward to more parts, featuring Keoghan and Ferrell (my favorite pals of Inisherin), and I hope that the tone will remain similar: there's always a threat of screamy over-the-topness with the Batman villains, which, in previous years, only Pfeiffer and De Vito skillfully eluded.

The Banshees of Isherin is the kind of movie that just affirms the power of good filmaking. It's so consistent in approach and faultless in its humor. it's ability to raise the stakes into slick folk comedy into a dramatic, existential battle of masculinity and intent is something spectacular
