the name "colossal squid" is so funny to me because it's like "ok, so there's this really big squid, so we'll call it a giant squid. easy. wait, what's this? there's another, even bigger squid? uh..."

Land Cephalopod #6 - the Colossal Squid. This squid species from the Antarctic is believed to be the largest in terms of mass. Hooks on it’s tentacles make it a fearsome foe to the sperm whale.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
I spy a giant eye-- the eye of a giant squid! The giant squid, and its relative the colossal squid, have the largest eyes of any animal. Their eyes measure over 25 cm (10 in) in diameter, and are perfect for seeing in the low light of the deep ocean.

Everyone goes wild for giant squids, i feel like there isn't enough hype for colossal squids.
For one they're bigger, colossal even.

Sometimes I’m having a great day and then I remember that there are millions of kraken sized hyperintelligent cephalopods in the ocean that are constantly evading observation and doing god knows what.

Mermay Day 30: Kraken
I'm never sure how to treat the tails of sailors and sea captains. They were the first to assert of Merms existence, that of the monsters lurking below, driving sea folk to madness. As we learned more of them, gave them names, documented them, their stories faded. But one still persists, out on the open ocean. They call it the Colossus. A beast of awe inspiring size and destructive power. I'm unsure of how a Merm of that size exists. However, I'm hesitant to doubt their stories. If my expedition to the dark abyss of the ocean taught me anything... it's that there be monsters, in the salty blue. He might be out there. And I can't tell if the thought excites or terrifies me.
