Tumblr media
Judges’ Choice
Cinderella With a Twist
An Original Design by Mandy Pursey, with Ryan Pursey (@bethesparkcosplay) “Growing up as an arm amputee, I dreamed of the day when fairy tales would include characters who looked like me too! Tumblr media
Best Re-Creation
Iron Mask 85, Avengers: Endgame
Made by Frank P. (@franklybuilt) “My late father took me to see the first Iron man in 2008 when I was about 16 years old and ever since then I’ve been hooked on the MCU and specifically Iron Man. Years went by and eventually, I felt it was time to try my hand at a Cosplay after watching Avengers Endgame and being blown away with the MK85 Armor! It was time to make my first Cosplay. Enter 3D Printing.”

Tumblr media
Jennifer Yi (@kaiweevil) Keesha's Hungry, from Star Wars “Her eyes are made from dyed round plastic and her mouth, nose, and teeth from painted sculpy. Comic-Con Masquerade Contest: Heather Robb Costume Name: Medieval Evil Queen
Costume Description: Medieval Evil Queen is my (mostly) historical design based on the Evil Queen from Snow White. This costume was a great way to explore combining a lot of mediums as well as trying some things for the first time. Not only did I design and make all of the garments, but the crown and brooch are resin printed and the embellishments on the dress are 3D printed fabric pieces. I love bringing together modern and traditional costume and prop techniques, and the juxtaposition of those with historical garments really excited me about this project!
Bio: Heather has been making with her hands since she was 8 years old. Anything her mom or other relatives put in front of her was fair game–sewing, crochet, knitting, hook rugs, coloring, painting, pottery, sculpture, and so many more. She tried so many things and enjoyed all of them immensely. As she got older and had the freedom to explore more mediums she’d never dared to try in the past, she realized how much she loved making costumes and props because it requires so many skill sets, constantly drives her to continue learning, and has helped give her the confidence to be herself. She is now co-owner of Sionnach Studios - a costume, prop, & set design and fabrication studio based in Seattle.

Comic-Con Masquerade Contest: Jonathan Hika
Costume Name: Geralt of Rivia
Costume Description: In the land of Temeria, one Witcher rises to meet the monsters the plague the lands. His swords and his armour are his only defenses. When he came to me I knew what he wanted and though it would be my first time, I set straight to work crafting, the Kaer Morhen Mastercraft Armour. Every detail made to protect, every piece hand sewn, molded or hardened for his purposes. I saw what he had and made it more. This armour can truly withstand sword or claw and is meant to be used to do a Witcher’s work. So toss a coin to your Witcher a friend of humanity.

Comic-Con Masquerade Contest: Breanne Cremean
Costume Name: Ack! the Kenku monk
Costume Description: Ack! is a part of an amnesia Dungeons and Dragons campaign and has no memory of her past. She chose her name because it’s the first sound she can remember anyone making in reference to her. These photos and video show her exploring the wilds of the midwestern U.S.A.
The costume is entirely handmade (with the exception of the mask blank which was molded by DreamVision Creations). The body is primarily faux fur and feathers, and the wing feathers, tail and feet are done in craft foam. The robe is linen and closes with a belt woven from a number of shiny ribbon bits she has found on her wanders (nesting instinct perhaps?).
Bio: Breanne is a mild-mannered working mom by day, and a giant nerd pretty much 24/7. She enjoys costume art and making lots of things in her downtime, and is always striving to learn new techniques and materials to incorporate into her work.

---Comic-Con Masquerade Contest---
Frankly Built
---Costume Name---
Iron Man Mark 85
---Costume Description---
I would like to present to you my 3D Printed Iron Man Cosplay from Avengers Endgame. This is a highly detailed recreation of Tony Stark’s Final Iron Man armor. My late father took me to see the first Iron man in 2008 when i was about 16 years old and ever since then i’ve been hooked on the MCU and specifically Iron Man. I always dreamed of having my own armor. I mean what kid wouldn’t? But it was always this impractical goal and i had no idea how to use EVA foam or Papercraft. Years went by and eventually i felt it was time to try my hand at a Cosplay after watching Avengers Endgame and being blown away with the MK85 Armor! It was time to make my first Cosplay. Enter 3D Printing.
Tumblr media
The entire Armor was 3D Printed using 2 Creality CR-10S Printers. It’s printed completely out of PLA+ Plastic filament and took about 14 rolls to complete!
Tumblr media
Once all of the pieces were printed, now came the real hard part! Fitting everything to by body! Scaling 3D Printed (or really any Cosplay armor) can be a real nightmare with proportions, fitment, movement, wearing everything and even taking it off!
Tumblr media
So now everything was fitted (or so i thought) i moved onto the next stage that has a very bad image in the 3D Printing realm; Sanding!
Tumblr media
But now came the real challenge! How do i PAINT a bunch of PLASTIC, Too look like METAL that was only ever a CGI model in a movie in sub-par lighting conditions? So i went to work testing colors.
Tumblr media
And if i’m being honest? I think i did a pretty good job! The red still wasn’t quite dark enough but this was easily adjusted depending on the lighting of said images.
Tumblr media
It was starting to come to life! I’ve been told this image looks like an action figure a child ripped the legs off of; which is a compliment I think!
Tumblr media
But what about the electronics? What good is an Iron Man Cosplay without the bells and whistles? My next goal was to have all of the typical features of an Iron Man Costume; Motorized Opening Faceplate, Wrist Activated Palm Repulsors, Body panel LED lights and even a “Snap” Sensitive Infinity Gauntlet!
Tumblr media
The suit was fitted, the paint was dry, the electronics were done, and i have no words to describe how amazing this first “suit up” felt after months of hard work.
Tumblr media
This was it. The moment I had been prepping for. Months of work. Sleepless nights. Long days of frustration. But it was finally here. The finished product.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you so much for viewing!
---Bio---
Tumblr media
Hey everyone! I’m Frank! I’m 29 and can’t get enough of Prop making and this wonderful world of Cosplay! I’ve been living abroad with the US Air Force for about 8 years now with my wife and 2 puppers. I was initially stationed and living in Okinawa Japan for 4 years and now my career has taken me to the United Kingdom! Traveling the world with my family has been such an amazing opportunity! The Military is filled with way more nerds than people think and being around many like minded people (and of course the wealth that is the internet) has continuously fueled my passion for all things “Nerd”. From Dragon Ball Z to Gundam. Marvel to DC. Metroid Prime to Call of Duty I’ve embraced it all and love talking about it! Aside from my new found love of Props, Cosplay, and Printing; I’ve began my own Youtube Channel dedicated to documenting and sharing everything i’ve learned! From 3D Printing Tutorials, To Cosplay guides, Products reviews and even giveaways! I’m trying my best to give back to the same community that has helped me achieve so much in so little time! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me along the way and helped me reach goals i never imagined possible! I’m very excited to see what the future brings!
-Frank

Comic-Con Masquerade Contest:
Hey, this is Jessie H.-T. on durincrafts
Costume Name: My Costume is Kíli the Dwarf
Costume Description: It's all handmade (except the basic boots under the hand made gaiters and the trousers which are dyed jeans) from real leather and linen and I spent almost 6 years making it because I wanted to do it as detailed as possible. And I'm still working further on it.
Bio: I'm a Tolkien fan since I was 12 and read the books every year since then. I love crafting all my life and the moment I watched the first movie of the Hobbit trilogy in 2012 I felt that I wanted to recreate Kíli's gear. My job in real life is a boring office job, no need to bother anyone with it. ;-)

Disney’s Mulan 1998 Re-Creation
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Comic-Con Masquerade Contest: Michelle Joy Princess Hedmond
Costume Name: Mulan
Costume Description: Recreation of Disney’s Mulan 1998
“The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.” ~The Emperor, Mulan
Makeup, Hair, Accessories, & Costume by Me. My whole costume was made without using any patterns. I usually eye it & wing it every time. My earrings are made out of hot glue & gold loose pigments. All the flowers, trims, & appliques, I hand sewed onto my costume. Total of 5 pieces to put together. The top has 2 snaps to close it in front. The Obi has three big snaps in the back. The belt is tied in a bow. The red skirt and gold train are both one skirt with a zipper on the left side. The lavender sash is one long piece with dollar tree flowers that I sprinkled all over! If you look at the sleeves, I also sprinkled flowers on them too. As if flowers from a tree fell onto me.
Bio: I’m passionate about Cosplay because it’s all of my talents in one! Sewing, Art, Design, Makeup, Hair, the whole shebang.  I’ve always wanted to revamp my Mulan costume. The very first time I made my Mulan costume, back in 2015, it took me 2 days to complete because I was just so excited! With every year that passes by, I upgrade a piece here and there. It always evolves. At least a piece or new fabric is added or changed the next time I wear this cosplay. I worked super fast within 3 days to bring my vision for a new design to reality. She’s my ultimate favorite Disney Character! I’ve looked up to her my whole life. This cosplay is so special to me.

Entry for @masquerade-at-home!
UPDATE JULY 25, 2020: Thanks to everyone for sharing! My entry won Most Humorous! 💛💙💖
Costume Name: Sally, from The Nightmare Before Christmas (Recreation)
Comic-Con Masquerade Contestant: Liz Gotauco Costume Description: I built the wig and dress from scratch, using second-hand materials to contribute to Sally’s “Ragdoll” persona. I used scraps from tablecloths, pajamas and clothes, upholstery samples, and even the yarn was sourced second hand. I dyed some scraps to achieve the right colors, aiming for the palette used in the movie rather than the merchandising. I used puffy paint to create the spiral pattern of the bodice. I hand-stitched the black yarn details.  I purchased two pairs of tights but modified one to wear as a top. I did my own makeup using a mix of theater makeup and fashion makeup. Bio: I’m a librarian, singer, and cosplayer from Rhode Island. I work with teens in a lovely public library where we get to host comics and fandom events. I sing in cover bands and local cabarets, currently fronting a pop/dance band. And I’ve enjoyed cons such as RI Comic Con, Leaky Con Boston, and NYCC. During RI’s shelter-in-place, I made unconventional Disney cosplays using only the supplies I had in my apartment. You can see those and more of my work on Instagram and Facebook. My cat’s name is Louis. Outdoor photos are by Jade Gotauco, 2018.  All other photos and videos are by me, 2020. Music is “Circus of Fear” by Open Wave (courtesy of the PowerDirector app). Sugarplum Princess Barbie - for ComicCon @ Home
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Comic-Con Masquerade Contest: Maddie Caffarel
Costume Name: Sugarplum Princess Barbie
Description: I began this piece in early May, then after finishing the basic bodice and skirt construction, I ran out of steam and it ended up sitting on my dress form. The announcement of the Comic Con at Home Masquerade finally provided the motivation to finish it, and in four and a half days I bedazzled the thirty-ish flowers that were hand-sewn to the bodice, drafted and hemmed the satin hip pieces that got another forty bejeweled flowers sewn on before getting added to the skirt and the waistband finished, straps and arm pieces made, and the inner button and elastic fastenings made.
The Bodice is fully lined and boned, with an extra layer of canvas reinforcing the center panel to support the embellishments, which also include the ribbon sewn down to imitate the design on the doll’s bodice. The same narrow ribbon is also sewn onto the tulle ruffle along the bodice front, with a wider strip running down the center, like on the arm pieces. I tried to keep as close to the original doll’s design, but changed the shape of the bodice to allow for more freedom of movement, with a shorter hem that meets the satin panels on the skirt, extending the line down to the floral trim. The bodice and skirt are separate pieces, with an inner fastening system of elastic loops that hook over buttons sewn to the lining of the bodice, so I have a full range of motion while not worrying about the waistband shifting around or the skirt slipping down.
The skirt has somewhere around fifteen yards of tulle and organza in total, with the iridescent organza sandwiched between the glittery light pink and a darker pink tulle, both for added volume and sparkle and to protect the delicate, sheer organza. I also hand-rolled and sewed the hem on the organza, to keep it from fraying and to hang better, since the material doesn’t scorch into a smooth edge when I tried to burn the fibers, like you do with synthetic fabrics. Hemming that alone took most of a day, but it’s worth it for the smooth drape the hem gives the fabric. All the pink gems, both on the tiara I bought and the dress, I dyed with sharpie ink in order to get a matching shade and to make sure I had enough for the dress and still have clear ones in the same size for contrast. My necklace is a pendant I found and put on a new chain (the original the doll had, now lost like her crown, was a heart, but I couldn’t find one that matched in time).
Overall, it’s taken countless hours, hundreds of rhinestones glued down, nearly three spools of ribbon, and left my room covered in glitter. I’ve made or customized nearly everything I’m wearing, down to the pair of dance trunks I made from the plum lining fabric to go under my sheer skirt. It even has a couple pieced leftover from my own dance days, since I’m wearing the pointe shoes I broke in back then and a hairbow we had made for when I was in a local production of The Nutcracker, and has somehow survived since then. The doll I have now is not my original, but I remember having one as a kid, and it’s been amazing to finally make the outfit I’ve loved for so long (even if there are still a few minor additions I want to make to it!)
Bio: I’m a cosplayer and costumer from San Diego who’s been active in the local communities for the past five years now, except for the one I took (mostly) off to earn my MA while studying in England. I’m sure I had some other plans for how this year would go since getting my diploma in January, but since that’s not happening I’ve been spending my time working on my costume portfolio and sharing memes.

Comic Con Masquerade Contest: Natalie Lucia
Costume Name: Padme Amidala Skywalker
Costume Description:  The costume consists of a velvet cloak made of 7 yards of velvet and lined with an additional 7 yards of satin. The cloak was hand painted over several days with alternating colors of teal, blue, silver and white. After painting, 2,000 sequins were attached by hand to the entire cloak. The collar was made with a velvet base and has 1,700 sequins hand sewed to it and then fitted to the cloak. The collar has 6 sequined streamers that were also hand sewn and attached to fall to the floor. The under dress is made of chiffon and was hand dyed to simulate the water and then smocked down to the bodice. Matching gems were also added to the neckline.
The flats have over 800 sequins hand sewn to netting and then attached to the base flat and show the Naboo symbol in white. The jappor snippet is a 3D print that was then hand painted and strung on a delicate silver chain and the wig was styled with flowers, ribbons and leaves that I curled and hand painted and then attached. The entire costume took over 79 hours to complete and was entirely made by me.
Bio: Natalie is an avid costumer who enjoys learning new skills with each piece she creates. She enjoys recreating looks from fandoms such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Game of Thrones, The Mummy, Lord of the Rings, The Handmaid’s Tale & Labyrinth. In addition to costume creation, she is a musician who teaches music to students of all ages.

Arturia Pendragon ⚔️👑
Comic-con Masquerade Contest: Daniela Lo Presti - Krylù Cosplay
Tumblr media
Costume Description: Limited Edition Figure from Fate stay Night
I created this costume in order to bring to life this character in a realistic way. To replicate the skirt embroidery I deconstructed and pieced back together different types of lace and I used several layers of cloth so that, when twirling, the gown would open up like a flower. Indeed, in Fate Zero, Arturia is describes as being the flower of the battlefields.
Since I wanted to give brightness to my costume, I used small golden studs to garnish the blue part of the dress and of the jacket. I deliberately didn’t use rhinestone embellishments because it would have looked too “girly” but Saber is still a king. The funniest part was shaping the armor: I used foam rubber that I shaped with a lighter, well a lot of lighters actually!
Bio: Hi, I'm an italian Cosplayer and Cosmaker since 2010, Italian representative eurocosplay challange 2012 and Italian representative eurocosplay gathering 2015.
I went on stage in SDCC Masquerade 2018
