It's fascinating to me to encounter people on the internet who choose explicitly not to say what their pronouns are.
To be clear, I respect your decision and applaud the firmness of your stance. I think that overall there should be less personal information on the internet and restricting pronouns is simply another step on the way to taking back internet privacy. The thing is, I have spent enough time, effort, money, and grief on the project that is myself that I am having difficulty grokking the desire not to have one's gender be known at all. I am totally disarmed by the attitude, and I attribute this entirely to my own experience growing up on the internet. I can no longer abide resigning myself to the perceived genericized maleness of the average internet user. I deliberately make my pronouns available I go on the internet, and I correct people in conversation when appropriate.
This is because, in my past experience (middle 2000s ongoing), if one did not have clear gender they got the masculine pronouns. Assigned Male By Forum Users wasn't just the default, it was the practice, the de facto, the un-inspected habit of the english speaking internet user. There Are No Girls On The Internet was then and to a degree still is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Even though it was obviously never the case, and that women have always been on the internet, sometimes it is easier to just go along with the flow to avoid the inevitable misogyny.
Keep it up, you funky little internet person. I like your horse comix! They are good.
Haha, I totally get it! When you work so hard on yourself, you want to make sure people see it right. I'm all for pronouns being readily available and stuff.
That being said, I like keeping em a secret for a couple reasons! They'll come out eventually, obviously, I'm a film student with a job and eventually someone from online is gonna meet me in-person and I'll be happy to let them know then and when I (IDEALLY) have a career that'll be public knowledge. I've got a perfectly good gender I'm very happy and comfortable with. For now, tho, since I've seen it a million times with artists online that i really love, I've found out that people tend to weaponize your gender/pronouns a lot. No matter what they are, too! I think I just get less weird comments and mail by just keepin' that shit a secret. Folks don't gotta know cuz it aint really that important. I like being able to speak online and not having one trillion internet strangers who think they know me because of some words in my bio cross-examine me every time I talk.
Also, it's fun! I've had people think I'm a cis girl, a trans guy, a trans girl, a cis guy, a nonbinary no-gender something or other, a neopronoun user, genderfluid...basically everything under the sun! And I think it's fun to see how people perceive me since I don't think you get that option a lot. It's honestly really fun to know that my online presence doesn't have any...like, gender coding to it, if that makes any sense? Because I've seen NO consistency in the guesses and I find that incredibly entertaining. Even some people who've known me for years passively online still use the incorrect pronouns cuz I've never clarified and I think that's just silly and fun. I'm glad to know that I'm very much not explicitly in any sort of "box" with the way I present myself, because I think gender is kinda silly in the first place.
So, uh, yeah! That's mostly my reasoning for not clarifying anywhere, hehe. :3c

Hello randy of tgcg and cgtg fame I would like to express how integral your comix have been for me. Whenever you drop a new one, I draft a literary exegesis on the layers at play within your blooming onion of an oeuvre. I'm straight up preaching sermons to the choir like it's Sister Act (1992). From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for being my Sunday morning paper and enlightening me on the natural wonders of the yaoi world. P.S. If you see an ask that is nearly identical to this one save for a few amendments at the end it's because I screwed up and prematurely hit Ask or my system glitched on me or Murphy's Law played came back with a vengeance on my end. If this ask is the only ask of its kind, please feel free to disregard this postscript.
help i had 2 read this like 10 times to be able to correctly fathom your vocabulary. "literary exegesis on the layers at play within your blooming onion of an oeuvre" took me the fuck out (in a gud way hahaha). metal phrasing. also extremely high praise 4 wat im doing? wow...
holy shit though thank u. i kinda enter a flow state when im drafting my dialogues out but i go through & think about the meaning behind it & then i spend like 2 weeks tweaking it at random til im happy. i have so many to fix up...
genuinely thank you for taking the time out 2 wax literal poetic on my bisexual tumblr art. rlly means so much to me, this ask made me grin huge🧡

I’ve been following your art for a long time and I was just wondering what do you use as inspiration for your stuff, and do you have tips for people who kind of want a cartoony stretchy and very expressive art style (sorry if this is too much to ask I just love your stuff! Also what do you use to draw your stuff)
Thank you!!! Nice to see long-time followers :3
When I was first learning how to draw cartoons I bought the book Cartoon Animation by Preston Blair. It's a really good source that covers all the basics + some animation. When I started animating as a high school freshman I copied his walk cycles before trying anything on my own
This is a very old mini guide I made for a friend on how I push poses so the art's a little outdated but the idea is the same... I think line of action is neat lol I try to make the character follow the line as much as possible with the only thing that might break the silhouette being appendages like tails etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My personal rule for expressions is that it just has to look like an exaggerated version of a real expression a human could actually do. To me it's not as appealing when artists add wrinkles in random places with no forethought, faces stretch around the eyes and mouth and chin and that's where I usually place wrinkles
I take inspiration from a lot of shtuffs these are just the ones I can think of right now:
-Fleischer cartoons. Favorite 30s studio besides Van Beuren
-obviously 90s cartoons, for Smokey my main inspiration is Twisted Tales of Felix The Cat and Pat Ventura's shorts for Oh Yeah! Cartoons. Animation wise I try to do something similar to season 2 of Space Goofs and Cats Don't Dance
-90s 2d point and clicks. Two big favorites are Toonstruck and UFOs
-anything by Ralph Bakshi. Fully aware it's bad lol but Cool World is one of my favorite movies ever
-underground comix but specifically 80s/90s newave stuff
-music!!! I like psychobilly and ska and it helps me draw. Massive Frank Zappa fan too
I think it's good to vary what you take inspiration from. When I started drawing cartoons I didn't let my myself improve because I only took inspiration from 30s and 90s cartoons and was so bent on perfectly replicating it that I didn't develop my own style. I see a lot of cartoonists blend together because they're only influenced by ren and stimpy and looney tunes that they don't have their own voice or bring anything new to the table
I recently just switched to my relatively new ipad so I'm using Procreate and then Procreate Dreams and Toonsquid for animation. Since 2020 I had been using Firealpaca and pencil2d because they were both free. I used a screenless Gaomon tablet I got for 30-40 dollars. I do all my sketches on paper and then airdrop them to myself since my hand doesn't move as naturally when sketching on a screen

Definitely curious about the genderflip Sandman fic 👀
SAME. as in, this is only a concept on the back burner of my brain because i haven't really worked out a satisfying answer to the central q of the thing which is: what does a gender flip DO to these characters?
because here's the thing. i think 99.9% of the time a genderswap au is unnecessary and boring. (not to mention essentialist as hell.) boys have pussies, girls have dicks, people of all genders are intersex, etc. some of us notgirls and failguys just want to vicariously experience our fave getting his clit sucked or her prostate massaged. i personally hate fics that go "but what if these [cis] dudes were [cis] GIRLS" and then proceed to strip the characters of everything that makes them compelling, that makes THEM, because at that point you might as well just flesh out your OCs and maybe interrogate your internalized misogyny and transphobia while you're at it.
anyways.
in the case of sandman, i am (transparently, obviously) curious about what happens if the Corinthian is not designed to be (read as) a man. in the comix, he very much embodies the fears and risks associated with gayness in the 90s (the AIDS epidemic, the dual violence of the closet and/or being outed, the culture around cruising, intersections of race and class with queerness in U.S. urban areas, etc). in the show that's subtly shifted to be a broader umbrella of queerness as well as a very 21st century anxiety around surveillance/public vs private that also taps into a cultural fascination with serial killers. in both cases, him reading as white, middle-aged U.S. man is a CRUCIAL part of what he signifies. he looks like (and takes advantage of being) someone with a lot of social privilege, across multiple categories. no one is going to question why he's in a fancy hotel, a conference room, a seedy bar, a suburb. OBVIOUSLY that changes if any one of these categories changes. i'm thinking about how and also what that means.
(the dreaming spinoff comix tried to do a Thing with a female Corinthian: while Coco spends a year as a real boy, a trans woman named Echo takes his place in the Dreaming. the spinoff handles Echo...really poorly. [i wrote a whole paragraph here trying to distill her arc but it's tangential to this post so suffice to say: it was Bad.] Echo is posed as this "femme fatale" type because i guess if the Corinthian is a woman, she'd also have to be sexy and alluring to the (heterosexist) male gaze. imho this was a cop-out, but then again...what about that spinoff wasn't.)
on some level i'm not sure the Corinthian could ever be anything besides the Corinthian, if that makes sense. as in, if you change anything about him, maybe then he ceases to be the Corinthian and becomes something else entirely. Dream can take different forms (and Overture has a femme!Dream) because stories can take different forms across cultures and times and species. but the Corinthian is intrinsically tied up in humanity and its biomythic nature. and what we think of as Human, as Sylvia Wynter reminds us, is very much tied up in narratives around identity including race, gender, and class.
at the same time my id absolutely wants a butch lesbian Corinthian who uses he/him pronouns. mostly because lesbian and wlw sex STILL gets dismissed or sanitized or erased or pathologized, even though queer women remain subject to state, police, and domestic violence at higher rates than their straight and/or cis counterparts. (also yes i'm counting my trans hermanas y primas, t*rfs can fuck right off.) but also because i'm a fagdyke with religious trauma who relates very hard to god's failed masterpiece.

SDCC 2023 Recap (Abridged)
Hello!
This is a funky thing, but welcome to an abridged blog?! This won't usually be the case, but if you want to know more about my time at SDCC, including a couple lightly funny stories and a LOT more pictures, the full thing is up on my Patreon.
What do you do during SDCC?
Doing things around the show is very hard!
I was up by 6 and out of the house before 8 most every day of the show and--while we took it pretty easy with our after con events--besides the shorter Preview Night, they were 12+ hour days! Also complicated by having a friend staying with us, which was lovely, but complicated because we were not on the same schedule!
But what does someone like me do during SDCC? Why would I have 12+ hour days?!
I am at a point, where thankfully, my conventions where I'm working on IDW's behalf are often self-directed. As you can see in a few of these photos, I had the Sonic the Hedgehog: Racing into the 900th Adventure panel that I moderated for IDW on Sunday morning, but most of my other time was spent taking meetings I had set up ahead of time and impromptu meetings that naturally occurred over the course of the show.
Ahead of time, I had set up around 6 meetings a day, with a lighter Wednesday and Sunday. And that's about what I was hitting every day. A few times, due to the natural course of events, things got cancelled at the last minute or folks got trapped in the wrong place and couldn't get to where we were supposed to talk before I had to run to my next commitment, but almost inevitably, those times were then spent talking to other folks.
While I probably can't talk too much about the content of any of these meetings or who all I was talking to, as an editor, I mostly met with creative talent and a couple of licensing partners. To break things down a little bit further, there are a few broad categories most of my editorial meetings fall into: Project-Specific - I want to work with person X on thing Y and this is a chance to meet face-to-face about it; Introductory - Person X and I are aware of each other's work, but haven't previously had a chance to really talk, so this is a chance to get to know each other and for them to share samples; Relationship Management - I, or someone else at IDW, have worked with person X before and would like to again, but maybe don't have a specific project in mind, so this is a chance to catch-up and explore what our options could be, as well as just make sure they know they're on the company's mind.
And while many of my meetings were very enjoyable because there are a lot of excellent folks working in comics who wanted to make the time, I also got just a little bit of time for my own fun stuff!
Highlights included the Junji Ito exhibit, where I got to see original art pages from the course of like a 40 year career, attending the Best and Worst Manga Panel (which got cut short due to a false fire alarm!) and the Magma Comix panel right afterward, and getting to try the food and enjoy the atmosphere of the Sonic Speed Cafe! And Becca got to meet and get a little sketch from Matt Groening in the booth they were working at!
What I enjoyed this week: Blank Check (Podcast), Craig of the Creek (Cartoon), Honkai Star Rail (Video game) Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Links (Video game), My Adventures with Superman (Cartoon), the beach, The Broken Room by Peter Clines (Book), Crime Scene Kitchen (TV show), Dumbing of Age (Webcomic), SDCC which kept me from most new things!
New Releases this week (7/19/2023): I didn't have any new releases this week! Hope you picked up something else cool!
New Releases next week (7/26/2023): Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors Summer Smash (Editor)
Final Order Cut-Off today! (7/24/2023 - AKA Preorder Deadline) Godzilla Rivals: Vs. SpaceGodzilla (Supervising Editor) IDW Endless Summer: Sonic the Hedgehog (Supervising Editor) Sonic the Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island TPB (Editor) Sonic the Hedgehog's 900th Adventure Special (Editor)
Announcements:
I'm tired! But no big disruptions in the foreseeable future! I'll only plug that I do have a webstore and the Patreon now, as well as things like Becca's Patreon, webstore, and Twitch which I mention because we also got the fun news that our rent's going up! I'm also gonna see if I have anything else I can throw up on my Kofi so you can get some rewards besides just tipping me!
Pic of the Week:
This R2-D2 looks like a trash can, but I think it's actually maybe an electrical thing? Whatever it is, it was on the street during SDCC and seems like it might be that way year-round and I thought it was funny!

Gravity Falls 10th Anniversary List O’ Favorite Things:
Tumblr media
OK, Let’s GO! @gf10yearslaterzine, thanks for the questions/prompts!
1. Favorite Character:
At first, it was:
Tumblr media
^Because of that moment^
I started watching shortly after NWHS aired (with no knowledge of the emotions train that would hit when I got to that episode) because I’d seen a few people talking about how funny, cute, and smart Gravity Falls was and instantly liked the girl who made a light-up sweater. Instead of marathoning it, I saved it to watch an episode every so often as a fun pick-me-up for after watching more dramatic/sad/emotional things and eventually caught up right around when ATOTS aired.
Then this happened:
Tumblr media
And Ford became my favorite and the show became a hyperfixation. This nerd who survived thirty years of what drove Fiddleford to erase his memory from a few seconds of exposure and who wrote things like Trust No One, who shoots first and asks questions later, and who is so full of trauma just... Played happily along with Giggle Time Bouncy Boots. He was still so passionate for the things he loved, still ready to be silly, just wanted to have a friend because he’d felt alone for so long, and was still trying to do good for the world despite everything. He had his flaws and misconceptions but ultimately, this nerd was doing the best he could with what he had.
Also, I’ve written about this before but it meant a lot, personally, to see his character type allowed to be one of the heroes where most media would villainize someone like him.
Answers for the rest of the questions (and a plaidypus drawing) are under the cut (because it’s easier for my brain to process answering them together and I don’t want to take up a ton of dash space):
2. Favorite Journal Page:
Oof. A Tough one. There are so many hilarious or cute or just well put-together pages. But, I’m going to go with the last two-page spread because it’s so nice to see them all happy like this:
Tumblr media
Honorable mention to this one too just because I love the artwork for it:
Tumblr media
Oh! and a third mention to the MY MUSE WAS A MONSTER page for the sheer rawness of it.
3. Favorite Monster/Creature:
Tumblr media
The plaidypus! So much cute...
4. Favorite Location:
Tumblr media
The deep/enchanted forest areas. They’re so pretty.
5. Favorite Episode:
To tie in with the favorite character prompt:
Tumblr media
We get to see the family work together, Weird Al is there, Grenda gets to weaponize an armchair, and we get to see who Ford is now, not from the past, not from the journal, and not fresh out of the nightmare realm. Bonus points for Stan apologizing to Dipper for making fun of him. I feel like that was a huge character growth moment for him and more reason to love his character too.
6. Funniest Joke:
Oh man. I’m not sure what to pick here. There’s the classic ones that became memes, of course, but there are also things like Dipper’s internet history and Mabel and the leaf blower.
Hmm. I’m going to go with basically the entire premise of this:
Tumblr media
Getting bored while falling in the bottomless pit.
It’s personally hilarious because on a trip in 2010, a few friends and I saw a well on the top of a mountain and wondered how deep that would have to be if there wasn’t a spring or something. That led to the idea of “at what point do you stop screaming and get hungry or bored or need to sleep when falling into a bottomless pit.” So this episode was basically our thoughts on it.
7. Favorite Game/Book/Merch:
Oof another tough one because, while Journal 3 is probably my favorite, I want to give a shout out to:
Tumblr media
I love that it gave us more stories. We got more Pacifica development, creepy faceless Mabel, a post-Weirdmageddon Stan and Ford adventure with bonus Mabel in the multiverse, a smol Stans adventure, and *gestures to all of Comix Up. I mean, how could you not love some Dipper and Pacifica bonding, Stan finding out that Ford is an interdimensional criminal, Baby Stan and Ford bonding, and almost the entire cast hilariously stuck in anime schoolgirl uniforms and thrown into various other comic book personas.
8. Favorite Song:
Definitely:
Tumblr media
Because that whole karaoke thing was adorable. And this actually leads into...
9. Favorite Quote:
“Karaoke is not about sounding good, it's about sounding terrible, TOGETHER.”
The sentiment is applicable to so many things. It’s not about being good or perfect, it’s about throwing expectations and self-consciousness out the window to have honest fun with the people you love.
10. A Special Memory or Moment About Gravity Falls:
Meeting so many incredible people through the fandom; People I’m friends offline with now and who I still chat with about life. It’s been one of the best experiences of my life getting to talk to so many awesome people, see your creative content, and to create my own (This show made me start drawing again and I’ve gotten hundreds of thousands of words in writing practice thanks to writing fics! Plus cosplaying and getting to meet other cosplayers! So much fun!). Thank you to everyone who helped make this show possible!

86. Gravity Falls: Lost Legends, by Alex Hirsch
Tumblr media
Owned: Yes Page count: Unknown/not numbered My summary: Pacifica and Dipper must battle a monster to save Mabel’s face. Soos breaks the fourth wall, and reality begins to crumble. Mabel tears a hole in reality and discovers the Mabel-verse. And young Stanley and Stanford fight some bullies. Welcome back to Gravity Falls. My rating: 4/5 My commentary:
Ah, Gravity Falls. All in all, it was a fucking great show, and I share the opinion with so many people that, while I would love more Gravity Falls stuff, another series or more episodes with Dipper and Mabel would kind of ruin the tight structure of the story as-is. So these comics are a great medium between the two! Actually written by Alex Hirsch, they take place at various points in the lives of the Pines twins, and work as mini midquels, showing little moments from their stay in Gravity Falls. Also the narrator is Shmebulock, who can apparently speak English once every thousand years and uses that time to act as our narrator. Because of course he does.
Since there’s only four stories, I’m gonna talk about all of them in turn! Face It is the first one, featuring Dipper being gifted all three journals by Ford and immediately losing Mabel’s face when he tries to contact a weird creature to begrudgingly help Pacifica out. The pair of them journey to help Mabel, and in turn end up growing and liking each other a bit more. It’s cute! It’s a nice waypoint to the Dipper and Pacifica relationship that would arise at the end of the series, and there’s some great gags in there. I particularly liked the cutaways to Faceless Mabel being super creepy back home while Dipper and Pacifica are trying to get her face back. Classic Gravity Falls, honestly.
The second is Comix Up, where Grunkle Stan hides Soos’ comic collection in a creepy old chest of Ford’s and accidentally ends up living in comics - yellow narration boxes show up, then the whole gang has to go into comics to rescue him. The artstyle constantly changes, with loads of references to classic newspaper comics, manga, horror comics, and superhero comics. I love it when stories play with their mediums like this, and comics are one of the mediums that have the scope to drastically, obviously change so quickly like this. The manga section in particular was really funny, especially with how cliché and questionable it is. It’s just a silly fun episode, kind of like the video game episodes from the show.
Then there’s my absolute favourite,Don’t Dimension It. It’s Rick and Morty, Mabel style! Mabel ends up lost in the multiverse and ends up in a dimension that’s populated by lost Mabels. There are so many cute things in here, like how a lot of the Mabels have names that rhyme with ‘Mabel’ - table Mabel, Explainbel, g’Daybel. It’s really neat, seeing Mabel interact with all of the other Mabels is adorable. It shows how much our Mabel has grown, really, showing her with a depth and maturity past the goofy kid who loves cats and sweaters, but the goofy kid is still there. It’s a nice little character exploration, and very much welcome. One thousand Mabels, forever!
The final story is a flashback - Pines Bros Mystery, a Hardy Boy style adventure with young Stan and Ford dealing with their own issues while trying to find a necklace that has been stolen from their father. We don’t get to see so much of Stan and Ford’s early dynamics in the show, so it’s really cool to see them interact a bit more here. There’s so much love between them, even while Stan resents Ford for his brains and having the approval of their parents, and Ford doesn’t approve of Stan’s rougher ways and methods. But they are real cute and end up working so well together, it’s a heartwarming end to the collection as a whole.
Next up, the story of a young woman fighting for freedom in the Caribbean.

Metalocalypse #29: “Dethcarraldo” | June 2, 2008 - 12:00AM | S02E09
Tonight’s episode is one of the more “straight-forward” episodes of Metalocalypse. A “Deathklok go and do a thing” episode. Like an installment of a comic in Heavy Metal or something. I don’t know, this show always reminds me of Underground Comix.
Dethklok watch a documentary about the Amazon. At a point in the documentary, they play the tribespeople Dethklok, in order to expose them to it for the first time. Take notice! This comes back later!
Each member of Dethklok wind up taking an interest in the Amazon for different reasons. Pickles wants to try yopo, a hallucinogen that’s only found in the Amazon rainforest. Toki and Skwisgaar want to harvest Amazonian wood to make new guitars. Murderface reads about a parasite that swims up into your urethra, and guess what eventually happens to him? Nathan reads a brutal account of his ancestors trip down the Amazon, and wants to experience the brutality firsthand.
Meanwhile, the General gets some military personnel to accompany him to shadow Dethklok. They wind up getting shot down by Dethklok for no real reason. They also shoot a huge swath of rainforest up to make a landing spot. This is maybe the most memorable part of the episode, it goes on forever and is accompanied by quick cuts down to the forest, showing various precious Amazonian species just getting obliterated by bullets.
Also memorable: the scene where Murderface pisses into the river from Dethklok’s boat. The aforementioned parasite is seen swimming all the way up his tall, tall urine stream just to get inside his dick. I’ve developed a bit of a phobia about going into natural bodies of water, and this scene is helping me sustain my being scared.
The episode doesn’t have too much of a payoff. They parody Fitzcaraldo. Hey, that’s a Werner Herzog film. Hey, Werner Herzog is on this show sometimes! Not yet, I mean, later. He’ll be on this show later.
Good ep.
MAIL BAG
I’ll be honest, I stopped watching Venture during season 3 because it became too reliant on lore for my tastes and had WAY too much Sgt. Hatred, a one joke character whose joke I never found funny. So I look forward to seeing your take on it
Yeah, the show definitely turns a corner with season three. HD and the change in aspect ratio really did make the show more beautiful, and I feel like they felt the need to get really cinematic. Season four was funnier. Everything after "Operation P.R.O.M." feels a little bit like the show is spinning it's wheels, even if it's still very impressive and funny. I'll probably be binging seasons 5-7 before the movie, because I barely remember any of it, if I'm being honest.

Hey Lord X simp, guess who this is and if you guess right, I'll let ya answer me a question :) also how did you get into .exe again?
Y’ALL KNOW I WAS A DAMN LORD X SIMP 😭
Long or short story that back in July when I was in discord chatting with friends and sadly knowing what happened to the Vs Sonic.Exe mod when it got canned, my friend Brian decided to show me a Exe character name Hog (and scorched) and I was like “Awww he’s cute!!” Right until I founded out I really and I mean REALLY LIKED Hog only as a favorite Exe character by fact that I called him “The Babi” for his nickname and became a biggest comfort character that Brian was NOT expecting.
After when I was really liking hog, I decided to start doing research of the other exes I didn’t know when Brian was also showing me it and along with Erica (Bonus with Hero Comix) when I was making so many post and making new videos about Hog at the time.
I learned more about Lord X (because in the first time I saw him last year made me confused and didn’t know much about the Sonic PC Port game), Fatal Error, Curse, Starved Eggman, Needlemouse, and many more exes that I didn’t know that they were supposed to be in the mod right until in August when all of a sudden that’s when the PAIN COMES IN.
SIMPING FOR EXES.
Starting with damn Lord X when I was betting I won’t simp for one but HERE I AM NOW.
Sure I was hoping it won’t get more crazy but… my weird taste of men especially my type of men is now exes just gotten nuts with Fatal Error, Xenophanes, and MANY MORE THAT ITS GONNA TAKE A WHILE FOR ME TO TYPE-
(And hell this was few months ago when this happen 😭)
But overall me now today when I’m still stuck in the Exe phase and fandom for almost 5 months is just CRAZY.
Hell i wasn’t expecting the fans of hog and the community itself is so nice to me in YT and Tiktok when I was making videos and post about it but yeah,,
That’s how I got into .Exe shit! :’)
And yes I still like Hog as my most favorite Exe and still simping hard for Lord X so yeah *SOBS*
Sorry for the long wait for me to answer this but I hope this is okay! 💙

Last part of my comix adventures: t-words
Yes, this girl got t-worded today 😌
On our way back home (we took the train) I rested my head on my best friend's shoulder, the one who t-worded me before my oral exam for those who read the post about it, then she started giving me back scritches (she knows that I love those), but because of the narrow space in the train she couldn't twist her arm much... so she lightly scratched my sides and ribs all. the. time.
I was biting my lip and shaking my legs to distract myself, then my other friend's phone rang so loudly that it echoed through the whole wagon; I took the chance to burst out laughing and when my friend asked me why I was laughing I answer that it was because of how loud the phone was
So this time my best friend didn't know she was t-wording me, and I managed to keep it as a secret 🤫
Aaand that's it for my comix adventurers, I hope you enjoyed this miniseries I made about my day... I thought it was nice to share ^_^
Stay hydrated and take care, un forte abbraccio!! 💚🤍❤️ (a big hug!!)

“Rose and the Corinthian are both people who need care, in different but complimentary ways, and i think that's part of what fascinates me about pairing them.”
I would say this ask is more of a “Thoughts on Corirose” one, based on your excellent quote/response here from LA Guard Dog part 1 👀
i do not remember saying this, which is funny to me because looking back at my comment replies on that fic, i was clearly burned out from final year of grad school. i'm way more loquacious now that my brain isn't running on fumes and spite. but i DO remember how much i appreciated each comment; those ao3 notifications in my inbox were little sparks of delight amid rejection emails and, later, a wave of onboarding paperwork.
anyways i stand by past me's words. i feel like fandom downplays how much Rose has lost: she's a young adult from a broken home, her mom died and left her with limited material resources to start her own life, she met Unity and then almost immediately lost her, she got her brother back but only after he's been through hell, and now she's his only living guardian. she's never really had a childhood. so it makes sense, to me, that deep down she'd really want to be cared for. she had to be The Responsible One with Lyta, with Jed, with the Endless. when is someone going to watch out for her? and yeah, the implication at the end of s1 is that she has this whole found family who are invested in her, but caring about someone is different from caring for them. also accepting care from people you feel have already given you a lot can be difficult when you're used to being self-sufficient and circumstances have taught you that the only person you can really trust to stick around is yourself. i skip ahead to post-comix in LA guard dog, but even with some distance from the events of the Doll's House arc, she's still a mid-20s woman in a parental role for a traumatized preteen. that's a lot for someone who isn't also a daughter of the Endless and the only remaining adult of her human bloodline.
enter the Corinthian. he's useful for Rose in a few ways: he can't die, he can shoulder some of the responsibilities involved with raising a kid (at very least the stuff that takes minimal skill but maximum brain space, like school schedules and chores and packing lunch). also he's an utter hedonist, which is great for getting Rose acclimated to the idea of having things she likes rather than just what she needs. look, he wanted a fancy coffee so he got her this fancy floral pastry. extrapolating from the comix (including the dreaming run, but i'm cherry picking there), he's very much a person who shows feeling through action, even when that's at direct contradiction with his words. and that's great for Rose, who i imagine has had a lot of people say nice things to her and then utterly fail to show up for her in the ways that matter.
i'm talking about him like he's a tool, which admittedly is how Dream still conceptualizes him to some degree in this au. but he's aware this time around that's not what the Corinthian needs, hence giving him to Rose. i don't know that Rose can think of the Corinthian as an object, based on her experiences and who she is as a person. Rose imagines possibilities that Morpheus could not. so her idea of care for a Nightmare looks different, too, and the crux of the LA guard fic pt. 2 is the question "is that enough?" idk! but i think it matters to the Corinthian. there's a moment in the dreaming comix, during Coco's Year As A Real Boy, where he muses that his bf Sila has become more than a distraction to him--i think someone seeing the Corinthian as a person, beyond his function as a mirror (aka what he can do for/to them), is the realization of a story he's been telling himself for a long time. about him and the Dreaming, about him and Dream.
tl;dr: Coco and Rose are both people who have been positioned as non-subjects in their respective worlds and that means they're both weirdly able to affirm each other's subjectivity.

hey do you still draw on paper and clean up digitally? I've just got back into tumblr and the new comix are so smooth! I love the variation in line weight and im glad your style hasnt become too much of a caricature of itself, though it would be fine if it did ofc. A&K helped me grow up, feels like coming home. Much love to you xxxx
Hey!
A couple of people have asked me this, so let's take a peek!
I've been doing the comics digitally for a while now because it's easier to change things if I mess up a drawing (which I do every time, ofc) and also I just find it easier to keep track of digital work than keeping all my sketchbooks together.
But recently I've done a few in pen like when I first started AnK because there's something kind of freeing about working in a medium limitations. Like, you can only care so much about tiny details when you can't zoom in or erase every errant line, and I like that.

Of course, sometimes it's good to fix mistakes haha
