  “Dagmay
Community: Mandaya Origin: Eastern Mindanao
The Mandaya, which can be found in the provinces of Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Compostella Valley, Surigao del Sur, and Agusan del Sur, have a strong weaving tradition as seen in their coarsely textured dagmay, hand-woven using a special kind of back-strap loom, made from abaca fibres, and following intricate designs revolving around man and nature, especially the crocodile.
They use a mud dyeing technique. Used to obtain black, the technique is based on the reaction between the tannins applied to the yarn before treatment, and the iron found on the mud. The bark of the tree, which contains tannins, is pounded to a pulp and boiled together with the abaca yarn. The mud is then added to the mixture. The yarn is steeped for one to several hours for the best results.
Dagmay designs usually tell the story about the weaver and her community, as well as the spirits that live on Earth. The dagmay is usually used for women’s skirts, but it is also used as blankets or wraps for the dead.” ~Tatler Asia (https://www.tatlerasia.com/culture/arts/weaving-the-threads-of-filipino-heritage)

So what's my political position?
I have posted some anti-capitalism rants here, how the full control of capitalists is detrimental to people's mental health. Does that mean I'm a communist?
Fuck no.
First of all, communism is just like capitalism, just that the owners of the businesses are government branches. It has same negative effect to people's mental health. Second, my god, I hate NPA or CPP for recruiting innocent young Lumads. They bring terror to their sacred lands, even breeching the protected Lumad property in Compostella Valley because they feel entitled to hide in their forests.
So what the fuck am I?
Nothing. I don't even want to be an activist. No child with a right mind even wants to become an activist. Activism means there's a problem in the society, and nobody wanted to live in a country with humanitarian and cultural problems. A person becomes an activist when so much injustice has been served both by the government and the terrorists.
And I don't want to be an activist.
I just want to live my life, to cross in a safe street, to wear what I want, to openly love who I love, to meet my wholesome goals in life, to own a cafe, an automechanic shop, to work in academe, to own a cute little land property... Not being scared of randomly dying from unnecessary hate.
So what if I'm born with this skin color? So what if I'm born in this gender? So what if I'm born poor? Am I not allowed to be happy? Why do I have to protest just to let people know that my life has value?
I have no political position. I just want to live free.
Why can't people just give that to us?

One of my biggest dream since childhood is to travel around the world. Since I'm still young and I can't afford those prestigious places so I've been traveled near in Bukidnon. The first unforgettable palces that I've been encountered is when I was in compostella valley. I heard that there was a famous attraction at that time. As well as it's less expensive.since it was summertime so my Lola decide to have short vacation and also to visit our relatives together with my siblings and grandmother. Last may 18, 2015 we took a trip in Bukidnon to compostella, my Lola rent a car for our transportation we took our breakfast in quezon .we had stop over at overview nature cultural park in the place of quezon , the place was so amazing and fantastic because of it's natural beauty of the place, also luckily no entrance in overview after that we took a lot of pictures. After a minute  we decided to take a long ride again. Hour passed  we finally arrived the place of macocompostella valley  at 12pm .in the late afternoon we decided to go in the famous falls in maco namely Mainit sulfuric falls it will take at least 1hour to get full from the main road . A minimal fee of 10.00 is collected at the entrance of the hot spring .there are also cottages available for rent rooms are also available for visitors who wish to stay overnight. Also if you want to eat thier  is a small convenience store where you can  buys snack or water. But I suggest to bring own water in order to be safe. When  I saw the falls it's totally amazing and very relaxing warm shower which is believed to have natural health benefits such as improving blood circulation, relieving muscle pain , and relaxing stress and also theresalots of spots where we can seat, it also sorround by stress, those moments that I experience was so expectacullar and very worth it
. That's why I wanted to come back  again in Mainit sulfuric falls in compostella valley and I always treasure those memories forever.

Lake Leonard ,Maco, Davao de Oro
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lake Leonard is a small fresh water crater lake in Mt. Leonard (Leonard Kniaseff) an andesitic to dacitic stratovolcano complex in the Leonard Mountain Range which is located 60 kilometers north east of Davao City in the province of Davao Del Sur, Philippines. Lake Leonard is one of the hidden gem of Barangay New Leyte, Maco, Davao de Oro formerly Compostella Valley Province. my quest to explore the hidden natural wonders of Mindano led me to discover more and more fascinating destination here in Davao.  The itch for more adventures and new experiences fronted me to see more of what this place has to offer.  One day, my friend invited me visit their place Barangay New Leyte which the lake has located. So we woke up early just to reach Tagum City for us to be there before 6am for the transportation going to leyte was just scheduled and jeepneys/ buses are rarely travelling. Unfortunately, we missed the first trip so we picked up motorcycle ( habal-habal )  going to Massara instead, one of the neighboring barangay of New Leyte, passing through the town of Mawab and dropped of at Barangay Mainit where Mainit Hot spring is located and experienced the beauty, loveliness and magnificence of the place . I don't want to miss anything here because this is already the opportunity  and pleasure for me to be in this place. After two hours we proceed to the most prized destination of the town -Lake Leonard. So as we travelled along up in the verdant mountain side of Maco, together with the butt numbing bumpy ride.It didn't bore me through as I enjoyed seeing the green countryside along the way as well as sharing of laughters with my travel buddy named Loren. And that is one thing I always love about discovering new places - the journey always makes me excited. After two hours we reach Lake Leonard  safe and sound. It was the serene view of the lake that welcomed us as we got. The waters were at rest so still that the verdant foliage on the other side refelected beautifully on the mirror lake.  Tilapia fence,  fish cages  water lilies and lotus abound the waters. Lake Leonard is much loved by locals. Its is their favorite place to relax and unwind, for there were picnic goers who enjoys the serene feel of the lake.  The clear water of the lake seemed very inviting, so I tempted to jump, take a plunge and swim unto its placid part and worshipping its tranquil beauty. Afterwards, we proceed to the upper part of the lake to look for food and to look for souvenirs.  As we were  in that store,  someone speaks about a brief history about the lake,  that it was then called crocodile lake, and the lake was named Leonard in honor of Leonard Kniaseff, a mining prospector who became the first general superintendent of Samico when company opened its Massara Mining Operations in the area in 1930's. And after all, we left lake Leonard fulfilled, satisfied with all the videos, photos and the unforgettable memories in this tourist spot.  And all I can say is Lake Leonard?  I've been there.

From Cacabelos to Ambesmatas.
Tumblr media
First thing in the morning, l head for Villafranca. It's down in the valley at the foot of another mountain (on the right side if the picture).
In the past, many French pilgrims, returning from Santiago de Compostella, would settle in Spain. Their settlements were called French villages (villa franca).

Every respectable town must have a statue of a peregrino.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The village of Ambasmestas spreads along a small river with very clear and cool water.
Tumblr media
Unless they carry too much clothes, peregrinos do their laundry every day right after checking into their lodging. This way there is enough time for the clothes to dry outside. Laundry facilities vary per lodging. If there is no dryer or clothesline, I rig something with a piece of line that I carry with me. It's OK. It seems like everyone in Spain dries their clothes outside.

My today's hosts display the picture of John Paul II on their mantelpiece. The reviving of the Camino, to which JP2 contributed, helped revive the economy of the remote Camino villages and towns. Many of these settlements were originally established in the middle ages for the purpose of serving the Camino pilgrims. It was a big business. During the heydays of the Camino, just one of the towns, which I visited, was able to provide lodgings for 10,000 pilgrims per day. Of course, some accomodations were rather basic - many pilgrims slept on the straw spread on the floor. However, even then, some basic living standards were enforced. I walked through a town which used to have a standard that required all albergues to replace the straw once a year.

The Buay River

The Buay River by Paolo Dala
The Agusan River is the longest river in Mindanao. We thought it would be a good source of domestic water supply. So, we included in our on-going feasibility study on rivers... Unfortunately, we found out that the Agusan River has poor water quality. A lot of mining are being done near the river. We had to settle for one of its tributaries, the Buay River.

OPAPP, DSWD turn over 300 housing units to DavNor IP communities
#PHnews: OPAPP, DSWD turn over 300 housing units to DavNor IP communities
KAPALONG, Davao del Norte -- Three hundred housing units and a multipurpose tribal center were turned over to residents of indigenous peoples communities in Barangay Gupitan here through the national government’s PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PAMANA) program.
With a total cost of PHP53 million, the PAMANA-funded infrastructure projects were built through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Modified Shelter Assistance Program and will benefit the people of Sitio Kapatagan and Sitio Kimataan in this municipality known for its thriving agriculture sector.
“Ang mga proyektong ating ibinahagi ngayon ay naglalayong mabigyan ng disenteng tahanan ang ating mga kapatid na lumad dito sa Kapalong. (The project we have turned over now aim to provide decent housing to our lumad brothers and sisters in Kapalong),” Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Director Andres S. Aguinaldo Jr. said, as he underscored the impact of the housing project on beneficiary communities during the turnover ceremony on February 4.
“Alam po natin ang kahalagahan ng tahanan sa isang pamilyang Pilipino. Ang pagkakaroon ng sariling tahanan ay hindi lamang nagbibigay ng seguridad ngunit, higit sa lahat, ay dignidad sa lahat ng nagmamay-ari nito (We know how valuable a house is to a Filipino family. Having a house you can call your own will not only give a greater sense of security, but more importantly, dignity to those who own them),” Aguinaldo said.
Together with local officials, Aguinaldo also witnessed the groundbreaking of the second phase of the shelter program worth more than PHP17 million.
PAMANA is among the national government’s multiagency convergence programs that provide much-needed development assistance to remote, conflict-affected communities throughout the country.
OPAPP is tasked to oversee all PAMANA projects with other line agencies as implementing partners. All of these projects are designed to ensure that no one is left behind in the development process, and everyone enjoys the benefits of economic growth.
According to Aguinaldo, the PAMANA program is highly effective because “it primarily seeks to reduce poverty, address the vulnerability of residents in conflict-affected areas, and strengthen their capacity to address challenges confronting them.”

Addressing roots of armed conflict
“The PAMANA program is in line with the national government’s whole-of-nation approach under Executive Order 70 which aims to create greater synergy in the delivery of services among national government agencies and local government units in underdeveloped, conflict-ridden communities,” he explained.
Through this approach, he said, the government seeks to address the root causes of the decades-long armed rebellion in the country such as poverty and the lack of access to basic services.
“Alam po natin na ang ating mga kapatid na lumad ang mga pangunahing biktima kapag nagkakaroon ng armadong kaguluhan dito sa Mindanao. At ang mas masakit pa rito, sila ang ginagamit na instrumento ng rebeldeng group upang labanan ang kanilang kapwa lumad(We know that the lumads are among the main victims whenever there is an outbreak of armed conflict in Mindanao. What is more disheartening is that they are being used by the rebel groups as instruments to fight their fellow lumad),” Aguinaldo noted.
This is the reason, he said, why the Duterte administration is carrying out initiatives which aim “to give the Filipino people a better and more comfortable life.”
He added that through the PAMANA program, “people will have the capacity to uplift their lives, and consequently, follow the path of peace.”
“As they say, when people have the capacity to put food on the table and provide for the needs of their families, there is no reason for them to participate in armed struggle. And when people enjoy the dividends of progress, they, in turn, are encouraged to help others improve their well-being,” Aguinaldo said.
“As development planners say, peace and development should not be carried out separately but should be undertaken simultaneously. This is the lesson the PAMANA program would like to impart not only with its project beneficiaries but to all Filipinos,” he added.
Empowering communities
In 2019, PAMANA projects worth PHP387 million were implemented through the DSWD’s Community-Driven Development Program for Indigenous Peoples (IP-CDD); the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) for the provision of educational assistance programs for IP communities; and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation for the awarding of health insurance coverage to lumad beneficiaries.
To provide greater assistance to more remote, underdeveloped communities across the country, particularly in conflict-ridden and vulnerable areas, OPAPP proposed to Congress a PHP3.8-billion PAMANA budget for the fiscal year 2020.
Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito G. Galvez Jr. is hopeful that the proposed PAMANA budget will be approved by the legislative body, as this will help bring sustainable development and long-lasting peace to the target communities.
“Projects such as farm-to-market roads, water supply systems, livelihood programs, and environmental protection initiatives are designed to be impact-driven, and will hugely contribute to boosting socio-economic development in the countryside, especially in last-mile communities,” Galvez said.
To date, the PAMANA program has benefitted communities in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol-Quezon-Mindoro, Negros and Panay area, Davao-Compostella Valley-Caraga zones, Central Mindanao, and ZamBaSulTa (Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi). (PR)
