christianity is fucking everywhere
6/29/23
When I was a christian, one of the ever-present narratives passed around every church I attended was this idea that christians are being persecuted. The examples were numerous: family values were being eroded by liberals and gay people; atheists didn't want the ten commandments on government buildings; prayer wasn't allowed in schools anymore; teachers weren't allowed to express their faith in the classroom; people weren’t voting for pro-christian legislation; secular music was bringing demons into people's houses straight through the radio waves; profanity scribbled onto playgrounds was corrupting the minds of children... I could go on. And most of these are pretty innocuous things talked about in front of me, a child.
As I grew older, I was let in on the secrets of how sex perverts holy minds and how divorce was a sign a couple had allowed satan into their marriage and how using swear words gave demons a foothold on your mind. I learned that christians must stand tall and resilient to resist the temptations of the flesh, because the government, schools, and pretty much everyone who didn't attend the same church as us (and maybe even some people who did! *gasp*) were dripping with satanic influence.
It sounds like hyperbole when I write it out, but I'm dead serious.
It's been over ten years since my Exit. I thought when I quit christianity that my life would suddenly be filled with "secularism." I thought I'd run into people who actively weren't christian anytime I went to a bar or an event or work. I thought it would take me no time at all to find spaces to exist in that didn't involve christianity. Because, after all, christianity was being eroded, right? It was being attacked from all sides! We had donned the armor of god and were ready to do battle in the lord's name! The enemy was everywhere!
If atheists = the enemy, and then enemy was everywhere, therefore, atheists must be everywhere. Right?
And now that I had defected, I wanted to find the enemy and ask them to be friends.
But I couldn't fucking find the enemy.
Because, as it turns out, atheists aren't everywhere, but christianity is.
You can't fucking escape it. You can't avoid it. It. is. ubiquitous. Way worse than dandelions.
There are christians in the office at work. christians at mcdonalds. christians in bars, getting wasted and sexually harassing people. There are christians in your neighborhood. There are christians at the doctor's office. There are christians who hunt and christians who play sports and christians who go to college and christians who mow lawns and pave your driveway and install sump pumps.
There are even corporations who are explicitly christian. Hobby Lobby. Chick-fil-A. Forever 21. Whataburger. Not to mention all those small-town businesses who are closed on sundays, which is annoying af.
There are 2300 people in my small USA town. Guess how many churches. FOURTEEN. In like, a five-square-mile radius. And if I expand to a twenty-mile radius? Over a hundred churches. I got tired of counting, so it could be more. I tried figuring out how many are in my county, but all I got was that there were 72 towns. Multiply that by 14 churches/town? Over a thousand.
If life were a Where's Waldo book, I'd be Waldo and everyone else would be a christian.
All the churches have signs too, just in case you forgot they were a church. One near me says "jesus is risen and nothing can change that." My husband likes to say, "Pontius Pilot would beg to differ," lol. Another one says, "It's not about guilt, it's about being free." Sure. Gaslighting 101, right there.
It's not just churches who have signs either. My neighbor still has up an easter flag that reads "jesus is risen" (this flag replaced the "trump: right to bear arms" flag with two pistols on it). There are a bunch of farms around who put bible versus on signs, too. One nearby says, "He knows every hidden thought," which is super creepy. It doesn't make it less creepy knowing it's a bible verse. And tons of people have christian shit on their cars—bible verses, jesus fish, crosses. Not to mention bibles in hotel rooms (I throw those away when I find them) and christian billboards (I flip those off when I see them).
I even have christian clients and I have to edit their books! Even my therapist is a christian.
christianity is everywhere.
You can't escape it.
Every time I meet a new person who is christian, or remember that someone I know and like is still christian, I experience a surge of disappointment.
Not you too.
On my worst days, when I am triggered and anxious and full of rage at the ideology that caused me so much pain, I can't even leave the house, because doing so would require me to drive down a road named after the church located on it.
christianity is like hydra. You can run. You can chop off a head or two or three. But it always grows another.
birth is a curse, and christianity is a prison.

From Peoples Park to Echo Park
(Post- Trump era, Part 3)
March 26th 2021
By Stephen Jay Morris
©Scientific Morality
It was Easter 1971 in Berkeley, California.  I was visiting the Bay Area and I wanted to see the place where the students had fought the police. The park was small, maybe an acre; it looked like any other city park.  A couldn’t-be-overlooked wooden sculpture of a giant clenched fist assaulted my view.   Other than that, it was very nice and banal.  Some kids with backpacks were attentively listening to a guitarist.   He played a song I’d never heard of, “18” it was called.  I really liked it.  I asked who did the song and the guitarist said, Alice Cooper.  I thought it was a chick.  Boy, was I wrong!
By this time, the New Left was dying a slow death.  Much has been written about the Peoples Park riot.  Click here for more information. I wont rehash the entire history here, however, it was the strangest trip I’d ever been on.  It’s recounted in my one of my manuscripts.
In the City of Berkeley, homeless encampments are protected by city ordinance.  However, 500 miles south of there is a different story. Echo Park is an area northeast of Los Angeles where my mother grew up.  She lived two blocks up the hill from the park itself.  At the time, my grandfather co-owned a grocery store called, “Pioneer Market,” located nearby on Sunset Boulevard.  Echo Park was a white neighborhood.  How white was it?  Well, my mom’s family consisted of the only Jews on her block.  My grandfather wanted his two daughters to marry Jewish guys, so he moved his family to the Fairfax District, about 20 miles west.  Success!  They both married Jews, although my aunt eventually divorced her husband and my mom suffered with my dad for 50 years!  But, hey—stick to your own tribe! (Sarcasm 101)
Now, Echo Park has a large Latino population and LGBTQ residents.  The park itself is right next to the Hollywood Freeway.  When I used to take the express bus home from work on that freeway, I would see that man-made lake to the left.  It looked similar to that of another park, MacArthur Park, on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, only smaller.  There were boats on the lake you could rent, just like at MacArthur Park.  There are many old growth shade trees, perfect for picnics and just relaxing.  There were grills for barbecuing, and bathrooms. The bathrooms were not very nice but, they were there should you really need them.  On the park’s south side, there was a public swimming pool.  In the distance southward, you can see LA’s downtown skyline.
Berkeley is a small university town.  When the college administration threatened to tear down Peoples Park to build college dorms, word got around and, within hours, protests emerged.  The protests soon became riots.  That was when conservatives ran the universities.   Today, conservatives still own the university, but liberals run it.  Finally after a few years, the college left the property alone.
Los Angeles is a huge city, now run by Democrats.  It used to be run by Republicans, until they got voted out of office because of mass corruption.  Back in the 40s and 50s, Los Angeles had a massive transportation system known as the “Red Car.” You could ride an electric train car all the way from Pasadena to Venice Beach on that system.   Then, the Republican city council acquiesced to the oil companies and auto manufacturers and destroyed the “Red Car.”
Now to the “homeless problem.” Because of Southern California’s mild climate, it is easier to be homeless in LA than, say, in Chicago. Most of the homeless are mentally ill, alcoholic, and/or drug addicted.  Enter the COVID 19 pandemic, followed by the economic depression and, like an avalanche, it quickly caused average citizens to lose their jobs and businesses.   Subsequently, their homes were foreclosed upon and/or they were evicted from their apartments when they could no longer make their mortgage and rent payments.  These average, working class citizens became homeless.
There are hundreds of homeless camps in LA, many of them under freeway overpasses.  There are homeless camps on Venice Beach and in public parks.  One park, Poinsettia Park, was where I used to hang out when I was a preteen.  East of that park, you could see the United Artists Studio movie sets stored behind their studio walls.  That park is now a homeless camp.  It looks like a Boy Scouts Jamboree.
Echo Park became a homeless camp.  The city council representative for the area decided he wanted to clear out the park of encampments because of the many complaints he’d received.  Since LA  is a left-of-center government, they didn’t want to be seen as Fascists preparing to evict poor people into the streets, so, they found a loophole.  “We’ll tell the public that we will be clearing out the park to do needed repairs.   Having people there while the work was ongoing, would present a safety hazard.”  Thus, under false pretenses, the City evicted the homeless from the park and fenced it off for construction purposes.
Millennial protesters showed up to protect the modern day itinerants from the heartless state.   Homeless residents joined them. They practiced non-violent resistance by standing, their arms locked together, in front of a line of an LAP.D riot squad.  They marched and chanted, but they were outnumbered.  The homeless became nomadic.
A Lumpen proletariat like me knows that, when the Middle Class becomes unemployed and homeless, they are not worried about the “Red menace.” Do you really think that if they utilize the Protestant work ethic, they will, by free enterprise magic, ascend from poverty like superhero's?   And, if they pray to Jesus, they will be saved?  Fuck, no!  What they will find out when they unite and become a revolutionary army is, that they will rise above property rights by targeting their true oppressors, the Ruling Class!
History, once again, is repeating itself.  We now have another Eisenhower mixed with Truman in the White House.  President Biden will be remembered, by history, as the savior of the USA.
It is a two party game.  I am so sick of it!  Republican bad cop and Democrat good cop.  The pendulum will swing from left to right again and again until America has a left wing revolution.  What is happening in Echo Park is happening globally.

Hacktivism - Activism & Protest
Tumblr media
Traditional human rights concepts seem to capture the essence of the internet activity and when allied with the conventional political movements which when violates human rights and disrespects a certain jurisdiction the activity which is of an utmost unconventional way arises on the internet is how Hacktivism is born (Sorell, 2015).
Being a technologist or a geek in other words, I want to illuminate a side of this particular topic which is often kept under the shadows and not popularized on the mainstream media. To shine upon some of the spectrums of hacktivism a basic understanding of who “hacktivist” are needs to be addressed.  Hacktivist could be a group of people or an individual whose main goal is to bring issues to light and cause social change in a peaceful manner over the internet without causing any physical harm to a human.
Tumblr media
One might ponder and relate Hacktivism as an act of illegal activity conducted over the internet, which I believe is debatable. Yes, many of the properties of such an act relies on the internet and achieving anonymity when protesting on the platform utilized by 4.39 billion people (Kemp, 2019).
Tumblr media
Anonymous the infamous hacktivist group launched their “Operation Tunisia” in 2010 which involved recruiting hackers to help take down eight government websites using DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service Atacks) attacks in support of the Arab spring movements in 2010 (Trend Micro, 2015).
It is important to note that these groups of people in the act of Hacktivism, hack servers, networks and systems not to gain any monetary terms rather to send a message. In this era some may classify them as virtual vigilantes or some cowards for keeping an anonymous profile. A more detailed analysis of Hacktivism will be discussed below as seen in Figure 1.
Tumblr media
Figure 1: Hacktivism and the future of political participation (Source: )
 There are four boundaries to Hacktivism according to Samuel (2011), the first one being the online vs offline distinction. A physical presence does not qualify as hacktivism as it does not depend on the internet in anyway. The second one being Hacktivism vs Hacking, if hacking is not carried out in the motives of relations with activism it is not classified as hacktivism. Standard online activism such as signing online petitions, form a boundary for what can be considered hacktivism, but it must include a hacking component which can be classified into two categories, conventional activism such as mentioned above or violent activism. It is vital to differentiate cyberhacking/cyberterrorism from hacktivism as ones motives are solely to hack systems to cause harm such as loss of life or severe economic damage to a country and the other wants to send out a message and issue a statement.
Tumblr media
In 2016 the hacktivist group anonymous reported to have declared war against president trumps campaign and according to Klein (2016), 78% of the targets belonged to one of the following categories: government agencies, corporations or media empires a trilogy of corrupted establishments according to the group and to support Trump in the election is to create an autocrat leadership in the country. Trumps promises of deportation force or building a wall it upsets millions and millions and billions (in trumps voice) of people residing in the states and the group believed to bring this issue to light, for the horrors of what citizens will face of having to be deported.

English version:
Open Letter to Matt/#博明,the Deputy National Security Advisor of the USA
Tumblr media
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywjqF3s1NhA&feature=youtu.be
Tumblr media
https://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2017/09/07/billionaire-guo-wengui-asks-u-s-asylum-accusing-top-chinese-officials-corruption/

1. 今天博明演讲的联线参与者有一位林夏如/Shirley Lin,她来自台湾,目测她的参与,还不止今天的视频联线;
Tumblr media
https://wemp.app/posts/05191445-2199-440c-a8f5-adaebac7f22e?utm_source=latest-posts
Who is Behind Wuhan Coronavirus Outbreak?!
Tumblr media
https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/steve-bannon-declares-war-on-china/
Tumblr media
2019年8月10日,郭文贵视频宣讲“以共灭共/Use the CCP to eliminate it”计划;
2019年8月11 日 ,一个美国猫脸账号(与郭文贵团队多人以及班农/Steve Bannon身边人互动频繁)发推暗示“切尔诺贝利式掩藏真相”;
2019年8月12 日 ,明显与郭文贵有密切联系的山顶洞人发推称“喷洒传染性远超非典的新型瘟疫病毒”;
2019年11月30 日 ,郭文贵神秘地说“有大事发生”;
2019年12月1 日 ,郭文贵说“过去两天发生什么事你不知道不等于没发生......全球自动灭共”;而就是这一天,据目前已知的信息,武汉出现第一个新冠病例;
COVID19: Neither the CCP nor the WhiteHouse dare to say “Hold All Bloody Hands Accountable”…
.......
Tumblr media

•IEW, should or shouldn't be delicate at all?• Hi, I'm Mentari. I'm an alumni of 16/17 KL-YES Program to the USA. I was hosted in Belleville, Illinois. Through this writing, I want to happily share my personal-experience-based stories regarding to the most awaited moment of all exchange students all over the world. Exactly. International Education Week. Happy International Education Week for all exchange students! *cheers* First of all, today was a year ago the kick-off night of IEW was held, November 13, 2017 in one of our mate's host family's house in Shiloh, Illinois. My IEW was started with the International Cuisine Night. In my cluster we consisted of fourteen exchange students who came from various countries (Indonesia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Moldova, India, and Armenia), and we were all organized by one very cool Placement Organization named World Link Inc. Why do I say so? First, I'm not paid to say that, because that's legit true. Second, because World Link has successfully helped me trace out my development(s) during the program. For me, especially Cyndi (my local coordinator) and Kristin--a huge and hard shoutout to them two--who have worked the best out of them to take care of all of us until the very last day of our presence in the US. Anyway, that International Cuisine Night, though, was taken in so much energy and synergy to introduce each of our countries through cuisines. The hostess (Cyndi & Nickie) also cordially invited each of our host families to celebrate and try our international cuisines for free. Yes, F R E E. Don't you wonder what I cooked in that time? Inhale. Exhale. Ayam Kecap or Chicken Shimmered in a Sweet Indonesian Soy Sauce. Seriously. This idea started off of my thought about what mom's food I missed the most in that time. Something sweet, but not too sweet. Something spicy, but not too spicy. Then popped up in my head, that, Ayam Kecap. A week before that night, I seriously surfed on the internet to figure out the closest recipe like my mom usually has back home. Boom! I found it! You can access the recipe here for the sake of your reference in case you have no idea at all: https://www.google.co.id/amp/s/anotherdish.com/2013/08/25/chicken-simmered-in-a-sweet-indonesian-soy-sauce-ayam-kecap/amp/ I brainstormed hard and I finally left to go to one Asian market in St. Louis, Missouri, named Jay's Market which was 20 minutes drive from my home, to buy some ingredients and stuffs. I got pretty much some things, such as Indonesian soybean sauce (Kecap Manis ABC) and shallots (bawang merah). In that time I did realize, I could be happy over simple things like this. Kick-off night: checked. Next stop was my school to present Indonesia through some speeches in presentations. Honestly though I only did three presentations during the IEW, which didn't reach my satisfaction point yet. But it was okay. I did my first presentation in my Public Speaking class, the second one in History class, and the third one in the library which was open for anyone at school to see. Everytime I initiated to do the presentation, I always wore Indonesian typical apparel, such as, or such as simple as, batik blazer, batik skirt, and kebaya. I spent relatively 25 minutes each presentation to talk and discuss about Indonesia with the audiences, also did I hold a little Q&A game with them after the presentation and one who could answer my question(s) right would get a piece of Indonesian money (Rp2,000,-). You know what, most of them got mad because of the money I gave them away, like, the typical question for them was,"OMG, are you sure you give me your money? Do you still have money after this? I just want to make sure you're good after all," which was followed with tender hugs afterward. I assume they said that because they thought Indonesia money got a lot of 0s and Rp2,000,- equaled to several hundreds US dollars, which was not true *lol*. Rp2,000,- is not even equivalent to $1. I explained all to them and they thanked me for such beautiful and remarkable gift from Indonesia. I spent the last day of IEW in a huge celebration of it in my school library which also invited other exchange students from other schools to collaborate created an International Day of The Week at school. I wore kebaya in that day, and my other friends also wore their beautiful traditional clothes. The school managed some stuffs so the exchange students could also display their nation-related stuffs during the event. I displayed my ID card (KTP), school ID card (kartu pelajar), Indonesian coins (receh), and some of Indonesian utensils (Pilot, Standard, pensil 2B, etc) in one medium size display window (etalase)--of course because I don't want anyone steal any of my 'traditional' belongings. Please no. Literally, prior to the IEW, I had cooked pretty much some meal for my host family at home and for a couple times brought the meals to school for lunch. Do you know what it was? Indomie. I mean, what else can typically depict Indonesia in a very quick and simple way? Indomie. Did I but the Indomie though? Nope, I didn't buy it, but my host dad did. He surprised me in my sixth week there by putting a box full Indomie he bought from Amazon in front of my room door. Yea, it was cute. And I miss him now. I'm about to cry. No. Anyway, let's summarize all these into dos and don'ts during the IEW for you whom are planning to manage the schedule, or still collecting up all the guts to conduct the presentations through some speeches in front of the mass. Let's start from the don'ts--so you have some pictures of bad things that'd happen if you do these. 1. Put information you don't specifically know or understand about Indonesia into your slides. It's such a big NO. Let's take one case as an example. You put in your slide, for example, that Indonesia got the 2nd big economy in the world, and then you don't further explain about it which left the audiences be empty about your information. Anyway though, it's somewhat unnecessary because people can basically google it by themselves and spot it right there. 2. Attach irrelevant pictures. Isn't it funny when you read about the traditional foods but then appear one picture of an Indonesian president in one same slide? It's silly. Please don't do that. 3. Miscalculate your presenting duration. I'm always cautious enough in determining the right amount of time for me to present the presentation in each class I targeted. Traditionally, when an exchange student has booked one special day to the teacher in one class to present about his/her country, class must not undergo casual teaching activity. So, don't disappoint your teacher because you say to him/her that you'll present for 15 minutes but in fact you go for another 15 minutes, because just in case she/he might plan some activities later after your thing. 4. Stuff up your slides with general information. Please, you come abroad to make Indonesian known in special way. Don't give information they should've known just by one simple click away on Google. Be specific and detail and original. 5. Skip the subjects. Tell me you aren't going to, or planning to do this, are you? Please don't let them left still wondering about some subjects that are attached in your slides but you get rid to present it just because you don't memorize the speech or information or explanation about it. Phew. Let's straight go to the dos stuffs. 1. Be knowledgable about your country! You are going to present about Indonesia, so you should learn more and more about it first before you speak about it. Am I right or am I right? Preferably don't use text or note while you're presenting, but this is actually up to you. 2. Pictures and videos can furnish your presentation for sure! Beautiful and original pictures or videos can also help you promote Indonesia to them. Your everyday pictures with your family, friends, teachers back home can be definitely attached into your slides to amaze the audiences (but please, not your selfies). You can also download some of the videos from Wonderful Indonesia on YouTube to be played. For example this one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TT8J3wUX_YY. Ideally you don't need to attact a life-long 101 hours video, you just need like 2-4 minutes long videos therefore it also doesn't corrupt your presenting time. 3. Make agenda for when and where you'll go to present (and manage the right time with the teachers if you're planning to present at classes)! I used to have a small agenda note to create a timeline of when and where and what I'll present later, and how many audiences I expected to come to watch. Just don't ruin your vibe just because you don't manage your agenda correctly. Ugh, what a disaster. 4. Input the general points, assess, through speaking, the specific matters. You may input some general points only to outline your explanation, but please be specific when you speak or talk about it. Because through your explanation, they start getting to know how Indonesia is. 5. Be in right order. You aren't going to go from foods session to the geography part of Indonesia, are you? 6. BE CONFIDENT AND CLEAR. Your voice, posture, body languages, stage manners, and all. Please manage as best you can as possible. They'll see Indonesia through you, and they'll understand Indonesia through your eyes. So please be you and original. Wow. What a list. I hope you guys feel a little bit helped and can take some good points from what I've written here. And I wish you a very successful and lit IEW. Break a leg!

Former PM Najib denies wrongdoing as Malaysia deepens 1MDB probe | News
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Former prime minister Najib Razak – at the moment dealing with 38 corruption prices in an ongoing investigation into troubled state fund 1MDB that spans no less than six international locations – admitted issues “went fallacious” however insisted he wasn’t concerned in any wrongdoing.
“There are issues that went fallacious in 1MDB,” Najib admitted in an interview with Al Jazeera’s 101 East that was broadcast on Saturday.
However he insisted though he was prime minister and had final oversight of the fund he was not conscious of the switch of a whole bunch of hundreds of thousands of by means of offshore financial institution accounts world wide, and had executed nothing fallacious.
“My conscience is obvious,” he mentioned. “I’d not obtain a single cent from sources linked with 1MDB as a result of if it is 1MDB I’d know straight away it will not be the precise factor to do.”
Najib has appeared in court docket 4 instances since his get together misplaced energy in Could’s normal election amid simmering public anger over 1MDB. It was the primary change in authorities because the nation gained its independence from Britain in 1957.
Malaysia’s opposition pulls off surprising election win
This week, he appeared in court docket together with his former treasury chief to face six counts of prison breach of belief involving the misuse of 6.6 billion ringgit ($1.6bn) in authorities funds.
“It is one thing he has repeatedly mentioned even when he was in energy,” mentioned Keith Leong, head of analysis at KRA Group in Kuala Lumpur.
“[It] will probably be his important defence. There’s such feeling towards him. One would not know what else he might say. As a result of this factor was so opaque, so mysterious.”
‘Banking secrets and techniques’
The previous prime minister – who twice threatened to stroll out of the interview – insisted the $681m present in his private checking account was a present from a Saudi prince, and he couldn’t hint the supply of any of the cash as a result of he “didn’t have entry to banking secrets and techniques”.
Investigators say that cash, which was deposited into the account simply earlier than the 2013 election, was given to politicians and lined procuring sprees and bank card payments.
1MDB is below investigation in no less than six international locations together with Singapore, Switzerland and the USA.
The US Division of Justice has mentioned greater than $four.5bn was stolen by high-level Malaysian officers and their associates.
Najib insisted he did not intentionally shut down the Malaysian investigation by abruptly changing the nation’s attorney-general in 2015, and firing ministers who questioned what was happening on the fund.
“I reject that absolutely as a result of I’m on file,” he advised 101 East. “I am on file to say that anybody who has executed one thing fallacious might be held accountable. Nobody is above the legislation.”

1MDB was established as a sovereign fund in 2009 with the assistance of a now-infamous financier generally often known as Jho Low.
Najib mentioned he noticed Low’s position within the fund as “creating worth”.
Malaysia has ‘nearly excellent case’ towards ex-PM Najib Razak
Investigators allege big sums of cash had been siphoned out of the fund by means of an online of offshore financial institution accounts serving to party-loving Low stay a lifetime of luxurious with a non-public jet, a $260m ocean-going yacht, and luxurious houses in New York Metropolis and Los Angeles.
They are saying 1MDB cash additionally helped fund the Leonardo di Caprio film Wolf of Wall Avenue, which was produced by Najib’s stepson and banned in Malaysia.
In June, Malaysian police seized bundles of money, designer purses, and jewelry in raids on a sequence of Najib’s properties across the capital.
It took three days, six cash-counting machines, and 22 officers from the central financial institution so as to add up the cash discovered on the premises, Amar Singh, head of the industrial crime division, advised reporters on the time.
The money totalled $28.9m in 26 completely different currencies, together with the Malaysian ringgit.

Lies of Omission
Tumblr media
it’s a lot of responsibility, granted
New York Times, “Norway Is No. 1 in Happiness. The U.S., Sadly, Is No. 14.” Note that the Times is careful to say that they are “sad” about these results. That’s how they show that they are objective.
I.
This nonsense concerns the 2017 World Happiness Report, written by a bunch of PhD golems doing part-time for the United Nations. Let’s go straight to the conclusion.
“The country is mired in a roiling social crisis that is getting worse,” [Dr. Jeffrey Sachs] wrote in [the concluding] chapter dedicated to America’s flagging happiness. “Yet the dominant political discourse is all about raising the rate of economic growth.”
To fix that social fraying, Dr. Sachs argues policy makers should work toward campaign finance reform, reducing income and wealth inequality, improving social relations between native-born and immigrant populations, overcoming the national culture of fear induced by the Sept. 11 attacks, and improving the educational system.
Right away, you should be skeptical. The survey (Gallup World Poll) from which this report draws its conclusions did not ask about September 11. It did not ask about campaign finance reform. It did not ask about the educational system. For comparison across nations, the report used one question to measure happiness:
“Please imagine a ladder, with steps numbered from 0 at the bottom to 10 at the top. The top of the ladder represents the best possible life for you and the bottom of the ladder represents the worst possible life for you. On which step of the ladder would you say you personally feel you stand at this time?”
And then tried to explain this score via “happiness predictors”: GDP, life expectancy,
“If you were in trouble, do you have relatives or friends you can count on to help you whenever you need them, or not?” (Yes/No; “Social support”)
“Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with your freedom to choose what you do with your life?” (Yes/No; “Freedom”)
“Have you donated money to a charity in the past month?” (Yes/No; “Generosity”)
“Is corruption widespread throughout the government or not?” and “Is corruption widespread within businesses or not?” (Yes/No; “Corruption”)
That’s it. One might suggest that yes/no questions of this sort are subject to some degree of cultural interpretation. One might argue that using a single question to measure “freedom” or “social support” would earn an F minus in frat boy hangover Sociology 101. One might muse that some of these terms are broad enough to encompass several dozen overlapping variables, giving them little if any explanatory power. One might claim that the “happiness” question does not measure day to day happiness at all, but rather a peculiar sort of satisfaction / imagination (my life may be quite pleasant, but since I can imagine life as a “crunked out” Soundcloud rapper, 6/10).
Even if the methodology was pristine, however—and there probably is some signal beneath the tinnitus—Dr. Sachs’ conclusions are inexcusable. His ideas may be correct, they may be disastrous, but nothing in the data even remotely supports them. Indeed, he almost directly contradicts the prior chapters, which argue for the primacy of social factors over economic ones. Chapter five:
...Eliminating poverty in the USA reduces misery by 1.7% points, unemployment by 0.3% and physical illness by 0.5% out of the total 5.6% in misery. Taken together, those three factors barely make as much difference as mental illness on its own.
Dr. Sachs admits this:
America’s crisis is, in short, a social crisis, not an economic crisis.
Then follows with:
The first priority should be campaign finance reform, especially to undo the terrible damage caused by the Citizens United decision. The second should be a set of policies aiming at reducing income and wealth inequality. This would include an expanded social safety net, wealth taxes, and greater public financing of...
The disconnect is so sharp that I have to wonder if Dr. Sachs got sick of writing and decided to plagiarize Wikipedia. I sympathize. I’m just not sure if you should be doing that sort of thing when you work for the United Nations.
II.
Despite all this, the World Happiness Report is not political propaganda. Like most bureaucratic documents, it is self-propaganda. Opening paragraph:
The first World Happiness Report was published in April, 2012, in support of the UN High Level Meeting on happiness and well-being. Since then we have come a long way. Happiness is increasingly considered the proper measure of social progress and the goal of public policy...
The authors of the report want to persuade you that happiness (as they measure it) is the correct measure of social progress. Two of the lead authors have published books about Happiness Science, the third is Dr. Sachs. The political conclusion is clickbait, a spoonful of stevia to help the methodology go down. That’s why the chapter on China ends with:
If the objective of policy is to improve people’s well-being, then [Subjective Wellbeing] is a more meaningful measure than GDP, as China’s experience attests.
And chapter 6, on work:
Generally, the analyses reported in this chapter provide additional empirical evidence for the merit of policies that focus on both the quantity and the quality of employment to support worldwide wellbeing.
So if you’re wondering why this report needs to be repeated every year, so the same people can say the same things and the New York Times can host,
“The libertarian argument that economic freedom should be championed above all other values decisively fails the happiness test: There is no evidence that economic freedom per se is a major direct contributor of human well-being above and beyond what it might contribute towards per-capita income and employment,” Dr. Sachs wrote.
the answer is, it doesn’t, it gets printed, admired, and tossed in a recycling bin. At best, the report exists to be pointed at, like a highlight of a college application brochure: “We’re not just looking at GDP—we’re looking at happiness.” At worst, it exists because the guy who’s always giving unsolicited back rubs said it should. Good luck cutting the program that investigates well-being.
The big acronyms (WHO, UN, OECD) command a Pope-like respect that your local school board does not. This is because you forget that organizations are made up of people. The elementary particle of corruption is the human being.
“Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.”
“In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.” (Michael Crichton)
III.
One more punchline. Here’s the table that appears in the Times.
Tumblr media
Here’s an excerpt from the same table within the actual report:
Tumblr media
I had no idea what being 14th looked like; turns out, not too bad. America’s score of 6.993 appears nowhere in the Times article (or rest of the report). We’re 93% as happy as Norway; we’re better than Germany (16), UK (19), France (31), Spain (34), Italy (48), and Japan (51). How’s your socialized medicine now, suckers? (jk, jk.)
In summary: a specious dataset gives rise to a redundant report with radically disconnected conclusions, the worst of which are picked up by a major media outlet, which excludes any part of the dataset that would compromise the message of societal ruin.
And yet not one point is demonstrably false. There are lies of omission, true. Leaps of logic. There may even have been an intent to deceive. But it’s not like it’s “fake news” or anything. That’s for the other team.

On the Season 1 finale of The Mandalorian, our reluctant hero and newest Star Wars icon took enough of a tumble to necessitate removing his helmet and giving us a look at his bloody, battered visage. Here’s why Pedro Pascal, the actor under the helmet, looks so familiar.

McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof involvements and attempts at supplanting the democratic systems and networks with totalitarian regimes, by McCalla, Christine Ann
From: McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof
To: Interpol and all variations thereof
Re: McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof involvements and attempts at supplanting the democratic systems and networks with totalitarian regimes
Date: January 31, 2018
On January 30, 2018, McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations were jeered OPENLY AND BY UNKNOWN PERSONS via amplifiers that she was stole a published authors credit, she was a thief, and that she was a prostitute. Additionally, other parties had joined in the melee including one party who had visited her shelter the night before in a party distributing items to the residents including cans of coke as well as makeups. Subsequent to the jeering of the stolen credit, one of the party, a male, joined in and continued to refer to McCalla as a prostitute. McCalla had only seen this person the night of the distribution. Additionally, numerous law enforcement agents began making allegations they have paid substantial sums to murder McCalla as they had been told McCalla had committed infringements and this made it easier to dispose of her as she is now corrupt. The infringement in question was committed by Christopher Brandmeir, doctoral professor of DBA 7000 DBA 7000 Doctoral Student Orientation at Columbia Southern University (CSU), the university at which McCalla is now completing her 8th day regarding Week 1’s assignment, a reflection paper. The infringement in question was the following reference presented by CSU’s syllabus for Week 1’s coursework, AL KHATIB, A. S. (2014). TIME MANAGEMENT AND ITS RELATION TO STUDENTS' STRESS, GENDER AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AMONG SAMPLE OF STUDENTS AT AL AIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, UAE. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF BUSINESS AND SOCIAL RESEARCH, 4(5), 47–58. RETRIEVED FROM HTTPS://THEJOURNALOFBUSINESS.ORG/INDEX.PHP/SITE/ARTICLE/VIEW/498. Brandmeir corrected the reference to KHATIB, A. S. (2014). TIME MANAGEMENT AND ITS RELATION TO STUDENTS' STRESS, GENDER AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AMONG SAMPLE OF STUDENTS AT AL AIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, UAE. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF BUSINESS AND SOCIAL RESEARCH, 4(5), 47-58. DOI: HTTP://DX.DOI.ORG/10.18533/IJBSR.V4I5.498. As a result, the middle east congregated including Syria, Israel, and other nations supporting the now disenfranchised Khatib who now has significant and substantial anticompetition and antitrust issues against him, in that a recognized and published author AL KHATIB, A. S. (2014), is now devoid of credit. Should opportunities and competition require that AL KHATIB, A. S. (2014) present proof of publishing intellectual products, Christopher Brandmeir, Doctor of Business Administration of Columbia Southern University has and facilitated TIME MANAGEMENT AND ITS RELATION TO STUDENTS' STRESS, GENDER AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AMONG SAMPLE OF STUDENTS AT AL AIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, UAE. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF BUSINESS AND SOCIAL RESEARCH, 4(5), 47-58. DOI: HTTP://DX.DOI.ORG/10.18533/IJBSR.V4I5.498 as belonging to KHATIB, A. S. (2014). McCalla received communication including in the form of faculty feedback from Brandmeir her work was remedial, and her initial of 60.5% eventually changed to 0% with directions to rewrite her paper due February 12, 2018 with McCalla misinterpreting her communications from Integrity Specialist as being 0% penalty. McCalla intends to comply regardless. Furthermore, McCalla has filed numerous communications with Interpol and all variations thereof in this regard, including allegations of payments for rigged grading, allegations of illegal and nonenglish speaking immigrants grading her paper, and now McCalla is asserting that numerous students within the class allegedly paid for input as to how the papers were graded. This crime was subsequently escalated to allegations that McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations put democracy out of the United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof, wherein she put the President out of office and put democracy out of the USA. This allegation also includes multiple nations including Venezuela, Israel, Arabia and other nations in which the USA was to become a totalitarian regime to the benefit of Arabs and other denizenry. The use of Brandmeir and CSU as a tool of use was a compensated event and extends to corporate including crimes of vice and other violent criminalities. These crimes violate statutes, 8 U.S. Code § 1442 - Alien enemies, 8 USCS § 1155  § 1155.  Revocation of approval of petitions; effective date, 8 USCS § 1202  § 1202.  Application for visas, 8 USCS § 1751  § 1751.  Study of the feasibility of a North American National Security Program, 8 USCS § 1772  § 1772.  International cooperation, 8 USCS § 1778  § 1778.  Vulnerability and threat assessment, 15 U.S. Code § 1 - Trusts, etc., in restraint of trade illegal; penalty, 15 USCS § 2, § 2.  Monopolization; penalty, 15 USCS § 6a, § 6a.  Conduct involving trade or commerce with foreign nations, 15 USCS § 15, § 15.  Suits by persons injured, 15 USCS § 1536  § 1536.  Fraudulent use of Made in America labels prohibited, 17 U.S. Code § 1201 - Circumvention of copyright protection systems, 17 USCS § 201  § 201.  Ownership of copyright, 17 USCS § 202  § 202.  Ownership of copyright as distinct from ownership of material object, 17 USCS § 204  § 204.  Execution of transfers of copyright ownership, 17 USCS § 1201  § 1201.  Circumvention of copyright protection systems,  17 USCS § 1301  § 1301.  Designs protected, 17 USCS § 1309  § 1309.  Infringement protected designs, 18 U.S. Code § 521 - Criminal street gangs, 18 USCS § 201  § 201.  Bribery of public officials and witnesses , 18 USCS § 229  § 229.  Prohibited activities, 18 USCS § 1545  § 1545.  Safe conduct violation, 18 USCS § 1962 prohibited activities, 18 USCS § 2101  § 2101.  Riots, 19 CFR 205.6 - Investigations under section 301(e)(3) of the Trade Act of 1974, U.S. Constitution 19th Amendment as well as the the US Constitution as a whole, 20 U.S. Code § 3401 - Congressional findings, 28 USCS § 1407  § 1407.  Multidistrict litigation,  28 USCS § 1602  § 1602.  Findings and declaration of purpose,  28 USCS § 1654  § 1654.  Appearance personally or by counsel, 29 CFR 18.87    § 18.87 Standards of conduct, 32 CFR 935.69 - Qualifications and admission to practice, 34 U.S. Code § 50101 - Application for assistance, 34 USCS prec § 10101  Preceding § 10101, 42 USCS § 1981, § 1981.  Equal rights under the law, 42 USCS § 2000a-5  § 2000a-5.  Civil actions by the Attorney General,  42 USCS § 11360  § 11360.  Definitions, 42 USCS § 11381  § 11381.  Purposes, 50 U.S. Code War and Defense, 50 USCS § 23  § 23.  Jurisdiction of United States courts and judges, Act of state doctrine, Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions, Geneva Conventions, 50 U.S. Code Chapter 4 - ESPIONAGE, Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents in Civil or Commercial Matters, de facto officer doctrine, economic duress, Fruit of the Poisonous Tree doctrine, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Letter of marque and reprisal, Parens patriae, Respondeat superior, Rules for Judicial-Conduct and Judicial-Disability Proceedings, The Constitution of the United States of America, Title of Nobility Clause / emoluments clause, United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, USCS Const. Furthermore, there are now allegations of McCalla being a moocher and wanting to live for nothing although it was alleged the US government whom McCalla has sued and re-sued for the infringement of her education Master of Business Administration, Master of Science, Financial Management and Information Systems, Bachelor of Science, Accounting, and Associate’s degree, Business Administration. Also infringed upon are McCalla’s vocational training Certified Business Management Expert, Certified Associate Human Resource, Certified Business Development Expert, Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Wow, What A Great Event, and High Speed Project Management. Furthermore, McCalla’s resume` has modified and sold to numerous persons in need of skills development and devoid of experience to complete an application. The government including Department of Education, Department of Defense and Meridian and associates (whom it is alleged Brandmeir is associated with), Department of Commerce, Department of Justice including DEA and CIA, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Health, Department of Energy, the US Congress, Various State senates, US Senate, and other member of the US Cabinet, their associates and affiliates, have accused McCalla of selling her extensive credentials for public / government assistance including food stamps, section 8 housing and a job. Also included were demands by the Cabinet for mass prostitution to obtain jobs for them and their international affiliations including CDC where McCalla was expect to “fuck if she ever wanted anything or to get a job”. There were also allegations of which McCalla sued for Department of Defense’s allegations of “intimidation of the United States of America”. It is also alleged that McCalla must prostitute with the US Cabinet including President Obama for documents validating her claim to the title of Barony. McCalla was intimidated by the Department of Education and its associates and affiliates including Northcentral University in which her stipends used to keep away her substantial impoverishment given her equal accolades and accomplishments seemed best kept for the use of domestic servitude / domestic servants often referred to as walking about in their platform shoes, pointing to them saying this is my MBA and this my CPA. Furthermore, alleged people have appeared in wedding dresses using the name McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations for job interviews, job prospects, sales prospects, international venues including embassies, secure vaults including allegations of Interpol and banks. Now the new jeers are in regards to the sacrifice made by the US denizenry as trade to acquire the US Presidency. It is also alleged that the sale of the democracy was for money as well as rescue and refuge by a new president. There has also been substantial torture to McCalla including the use of her vocal tones to announce / as gospel porn where her voice is used in the throes of ecstacy, where lights and other weapons of mass destruction are turned on her as spectacle and weapons testing. There were also direct altercations with arabs in Pennsylvania where she threatened with gang warfare, to be toxed, gassed, stabbed, put to sleep and murdered as she was homeless and slept in bus stops, metro stations, homeless day programs, and parks. There were altercations where it appeared persons standing with / in portals, threatened to bomb McCalla. McCalla said “tic, tic, tic” and there were extremely loud roars and serpentine creatures resembling anacondas appeared destroying the community the person was in. There were also the allegations of Northcentral University and their personnel including Boche, Hamernick, and others who paid for McCalla’s homeless through the use of promiscuity through orgies as well as accused her of giving them AIDS/HIV and of McCalla having syphilis. There were also allegations of these personnel threatening to pay to put McCalla out of the shelters in which she resided as well as put people to harass McCalla including an alleged reknown suicide bomber who ended speaking publicly and in front of unknown number of persons to kill McCalla, who was sleeping at Rockville metro station at the time being homeless. McCalla was also alleged “bombed by a bomber while being at Montgomery College” who sat at a workstation next her. McCalla acknowledges observing some sort of colored smoke / fume and McCalla said, this is the bomb. I must cough on it, and she coughed. It changed shaped to some round wire-like device that was white and remained on McCalla’s workstation. The alleged bomber left with this object on her rolling briefcase, clipped on pen-like. McCalla left unharmed. There was also the entice grant of $2000 for which McCalla has not qualified due to her late entrance for which McCalla eventual placing some lien or forced garnishment to the IRS to collect resulting in her stipends being raised from approximately $132 to $281, and alleged threats to reduce to $11 as McCalla is impoverished and without the stipends she must be forced to prostitute. There was also the allegations and constant references to McCalla’s abortion paid for 23 year ago by her enrollment specialist Adam who would have been alleged 7 years old at the time. It is also alleged that McCalla’s patent list was released internationally resulting in an encounter in which a Pennsylvania officer told McCalla, homeless and spending time at the metro for warmth, get outta here, get outta here. McCalla fled Pennsylvania immediately via Greyhound to Cleveland, where she fell asleep in a mall and was told by security to officer to leave. It is alleged at the time this was because McCalla is a white supremacist, she believed in white people, and wanted people everywhere. McCalla was shown some imagery she believes to be weaponry technology, a man arriving with a car opening his arms to her. McCalla became inflamed and thought if ever such a person should approach her, she would beat him. This was never her reality. It was later alleged that this action paid for by US alien enemies and illegal immigrants. Furthermore allegations by the East and African nations of prostitution and paying for her education. There are also new allegations of McCalla’s education consisting of honorary degrees. Now it seems McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof is being blamed and held responsible for the failures of aspiration of the US presidency given she has filed for writ through Interpol in which criminals, illegal, the illiterate, the uneducation, and uncredentialed cannot ascend the presidency or other public office. McCalla has also filed for writ in which treason to the United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof is punishable by death and separation by writ to United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof and her accomplishments, in some case including government assistance and benefits. Furthermore, McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof has filed the writ of mandamus, for investments in the middle east to prevent violence, erosion of the economy, violation of economic sanctity and national security, the establishment of embargos and bans to middle eastern nations, filed numerous writs of intellectual property portfolio including establishing United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof governance infrastructure including the establishment of treasuries and treasuries mechanisms including the certificate of divestiture, receiverships to the United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof, Syria, Kuwait, and Egypt, prevention of the change of curricula within the United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof and her academic systems including the age of entry for primary education, for prevention of sale of the United States of America in her democracy and all variations as a whole or fractions thereof through statute 48 USCS § 1489  § 1489.  Loss of title of United States to lands in territories through adverse possession or prescription forbidden, and for deployment of artificial intelligence as a law enforcement measure within the United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof, Europe, Middle East, and Africa by priority level. There seems to be a general lack of appreciation for the legitimately acquired education of McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof, her talents and skills, her ability to retain ownership of her name as a brand and intellectual property portfolio  which she can now explain with Brandmeir’s email dated SATURDAY, JANUARY 27, 2018, 2:23:23 PM CST, THE WORK IS NOT WHOLLY COPYRIGHTED WHEN YOU SUBMIT IT TO THE PROFESSOR FOR GRADING AND REVIEW. The problem is I am doctoral student with a total of 15 credit hours previously in a program where 54-57 hours were required for conferral, Northcentral. I ejected from the university due to demand Hamernick’s demand to enroll with private funds alleged approved by Department of Education with FAFSA approved student loan availability of approximately $42,000. This ejected resulted in filings to Interpol of proof of ejection, proof of university’s uncorporation including denial of completion of credit (Statistics I) resulting in copyrighting by student. Based on the comments made by Kouassi, current professor, James Ready, Brandmeir, and Julianne Klein, I possess substantial deficiencies and have no chance of making it through the program. The most I can do is complete semester 2. Her prediction may be right if Brandmeir has not managed to murder with his deposition of the democracy of the United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof and his gifts of / deprivation of intellectual credit of middle eastern published authors. Remains to be seen, set eternally, transferable and attached, et al.
  USCS Const. Art. II, § 4  Sec. 4.  Removal from office was the statute used to remove former President Trump from office filed through https://www.interpol.int/Forms/Contact_INTERPOL previously without any further personal intervention by McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof, set eternally, transferable and attached, et al.
As a result of the deposition of the democracy of the United States of America in her democracy and all variations thereof, facts must be made public. Those creating these implications are illegal immigrants and alien enemies, engaging in hostile alien enterprises including infringement, murder, impersonations, fraudulent and force incarcerations including those of a physical and mental hygiene nature, slavery, slave trading, and human trafficking. Furthermore, had their public service record been stellar and engaging, another person’s life, mine - McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof, would not be so easily subject to slandery, emoluments, infringements including that of an intellectual property nature, and murder. McCalla, Christine Ann and all variations thereof has been denied in truth, all appearance, and in fact, her rights, in entirety, and including as described by The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights as, Part I. The press and the public may be excluded from all or part of a trial for reasons of morals, public order (ordre public) or national security in a democratic society, or when the interest of the private lives of the parties so requires, or to the extent strictly necessary in the opinion of the court in special circumstances where publicity would prejudice the interests of justice; but any judgement rendered in a criminal case or in a suit at law shall be made public except where the interest of juvenile persons otherwise requires or the proceedings concern matrimonial disputes or the guardianship of children. 2. Everyone charged with a criminal offence shall have the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law. 3. In the determination of any criminal charge against him, everyone shall be entitled to the following minimum guarantees, in full equality: (a) To be informed promptly and in detail in a language which he understands of the nature and cause of the charge against him; (b) To have adequate time and facilities for the preparation of his defence and to communicate with counsel of his own choosing; (c) To be tried without undue delay; (d) To be tried in his presence, and to defend himself in person or through legal assistance of his own choosing; to be informed, if he does not have legal assistance, of this right; and to have legal assistance assigned to him, in any case where the interests of justice so require, and without payment by him in any such case if he does not have sufficient means to pay for it; (e) To examine, or have examined, the witnesses against him and to obtain the attendance and examination of witnesses on his behalf under the same conditions as witnesses against him; (f) To have the free assistance of an interpreter if he cannot understand or speak the language used in court; (g) Not to be compelled to testify against himself or to confess guilt. 4. In the case of juvenile persons, the procedure shall be such as will take account of their age and the desirability of promoting their rehabilitation. 5. Everyone convicted of a crime shall have the right to his conviction and sentence being reviewed by a higher tribunal according to law. 6. When a person has by a final decision been convicted of a criminal offence and when subsequently his conviction has been reversed or he has been pardoned on the ground that a new or newly discovered fact shows conclusively that there has been a miscarriage of justice, the person who has suffered punishment as a result of such conviction shall be compensated according to law, unless it is proved that the non-disclosure of the unknown fact in time is wholly or partly attributable to him. 7. No one shall be liable to be tried or punished again for an offence for which he has already been finally convicted or acquitted in accordance with the law and penal procedure of each country. Article 15. 1. No one shall be held guilty of any criminal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a criminal offence, under national or international law, at the time when it was committed. Nor shall a heavier penalty be imposed than the one that was applicable at the time when the criminal offence was committed. If, subsequent to the commission of the offence, provision is made by law for the imposition of the lighter penalty, the offender shall benefit thereby. 2. Nothing in this article shall prejudice the trial and punishment of any person for any act or omission which, at the time when it was committed, was criminal according to the general principles of law recognized by the community of nations. Article 16. Everyone shall have the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law. Article 17. 1. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary or unlawful interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to unlawful attacks on his honour and reputation. 2. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks. Article 18. 1. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right shall include freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice, and freedom, either individually or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching. 2. No one shall be subject to coercion which would impair his freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice. 3. Freedom to manifest one's religion or beliefs may be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary to protect public safety, order, health, or morals or the fundamental rights and freedoms of others. 4. The States Parties to the present Covenant undertake to have respect for the liberty of parents and, when applicable, legal guardians to ensure the religious and moral education of their children in conformity with their own convictions. Article 19. 1. Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference. 2. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice. 3. The exercise of the rights provided for in paragraph 2 of this article carries with it special duties and responsibilities. It may therefore be subject to certain restrictions, but these shall only be such as are provided by law and are necessary: (a) For respect of the rights or reputations of others; (b) For the protection of national security or of public order (ordre public), or of public health or morals. Article 20. 1. Any propaganda for war shall be prohibited by law. 2. Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence shall be prohibited by law. Article 21. The right of peaceful assembly shall be recognized. No restrictions may be placed on the exercise of this right other than those imposed in conformity with the law and which are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security or public safety, public order (ordre public), the protection of public health or morals or the protection of the rights and freedoms of others. Article 22. 1. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of association with others, including the right to form and join trade unions for the protection of his interests. 2. No restrictions may be placed on the exercise of this right other than those which are prescribed by law and which are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security or public safety, public order (ordre public), the protection of public health or morals or the protection of the rights and freedoms of others. This article shall not prevent the imposition of lawful restrictions on members of the armed forces and of the police in their exercise of this right. 3. Nothing in this article shall authorize States Parties to the International Labour Organization Convention of 1948 concerning Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize to take legislative measures which would prejudice, or to apply the law in such a manner as to prejudice, the guarantees provided for in that Convention. Article 23. 1. The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State. 2. The right of men and women of marriageable age to marry and to found a family shall be recognized. 3. No marriage shall be entered into without the free and full consent of the intending spouses. 4. States Parties to the present Covenant shall take appropriate steps to ensure equality of rights and responsibilities of spouses as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. In the case of dissolution, provision shall be made for the necessary protection of any children. Article 24. 1. Every child shall have, without any discrimination as to race, colour, sex, language, religion, national or social origin, property or birth, the right to such measures of protection as are required by his status as a minor, on the part of his family, society and the State. 2. Every child shall be registered immediately after birth and shall have a name. 3. Every child has the right to acquire a nationality. Article 25. Every citizen shall have the right and the opportunity, without any of the distinctions mentioned in article 2 and without unreasonable restrictions: (a) To take part in the conduct of public affairs, directly or through freely chosen representatives; (b) To vote and to be elected at genuine periodic elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret ballot, guaranteeing the free expression of the will of the electors; (c) To have access, on general terms of equality, to public service in his country. Article 26. All persons are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to the equal protection of the law. Article 27. In those States in which ethnic, religious or linguistic minorities exist, persons belonging to such minorities shall not be denied the right, in community with the other members of their group, to enjoy their own culture, to profess and practice their own religion, or to use their own language. SAINTHOOD 101
GOSPELS!
LUKE!
Luke 6:
{still dealing with the figure of speech “many and’s” each part need to be thought through on it’s own most as a mass like a clump of grapes.}
And
it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields;
and
his disciples plucked the ears of corn,
and
did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
2 And
certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
3 And
Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred,
and they which were with him; 4 how he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread,
and
gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
5 And
he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
{ Every divides the word but do they rightly divide it? Jesus Christ did. It is possible when one uses the keys to rightly dividing the word. II Tim. 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We need to study diligently the Word of GOD to rightly divide it and never ever never ever never ever give our own private interpretation/P.I.(poison ivy) II Peter 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.}
{Here are 2 cases of religious leaders who wrongly divided the Word of GOD. above and below.}
6 And
it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue
and
taught:
and
there was a man whose right hand was withered.
7 And
the scribes
and
Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. 8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. 9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
10 And
looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand.
And
he did so:
and
his hand was restored whole as the other.
11 And
they were filled with madness;
and
communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
{I see this madness today on fb about the President of the USA. So I can understand this verse better.}
When we wrongly divide the Word of GOD we do not have the Word of GOD. So lets rightly divide it and rightly apply it to all thing in life. II Peter 1:3 according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.}
GOD BLESS!

Where The Air Is Rare. Surmounting the Odds A year in the life of... The incredible year that was 2018 in Review
Woman of the Year 2018
In all of this, there is only one most obvious choice for Woman of  the Year. Ma.
youtube
More below.
Recapping 2018: Emerging from Natural and Manmade  Social, Cultural & Political Turmoil. Even as the political world grapples with the inadequacies of its democratic systems (Guyana, UK-Europe/Brexit; USA, and T&T goes into election mode - the list is long;) crumbling from the pressures of not just reconciling diverse interests and imbalances in access to resources, but greed, corruption and mismanagement; as the conventional media world continue to crumble with some notable icons of the reign of the printing press laid to rest; as conventional institutional systems cling to crumbling walls and structures made irrelevant by the virtual realm; when fake news, alternative facts and half truths grip reality, there are still core strengths, values and relationships that hold eternally true...
... In this incredible year - one which could have been most static, but which with the love, strength, support and encouragement of valued friends and wellwishers - became one that is most eventful, thanks to many remarkable men and women, some of whom are represented in this roadmap of actions targeting global and personal goals in efforts to end poverty, promote quality education and lifelong learning, thrive for gender equity, enhance cultural and social inclusion, environmental conservation that will allow for healthy lifestyles, clean air, water, oceans, sanitation, inclusive cities, partnerships.  It takes one plus many other ones, no matter what your circumstances and in the end, all global actions are first local.
Saying Farewell:
From the January farewell to former UWI Principal and President George Maxwell Richards who, with his wife, Dr Jean Ramjohn Rchards kept their doors and hearts open and lent unstiting endorsement and support to my literary, education and outreach endeavours towards what are personl drive to make our living spaces more amenable that at the same time speak to international goals and targets towards respect, inclusion, equity and empowerment with Quality Lifelong Education (SDG 4); decent work (SDG 8);  industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), reduce inequalities (SDG 10)  sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)  Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Global Partnerships SDG 17): Tea With Presidents https://goo.gl/ZHo31y
-the passing of oneof the best examples of defying mortal odds, Stephen Hawking in March with whom I had a strange encounter from my days at Cambridge University and thereafter and from which will strengthen efforts with a universal perspective towards Goal 3: Quality Healthy Lives and Promote Well Being; Climate Action, Clean Energy, air, Water & Sanitation:  My Collision with Stephen Hawkins: https://goo.gl/Fx47Ak
LiTTributes to Laureates Education, Lifelong Learning Inclusive ommunities securing legacies
-the not unexpected passing of Nobel Laureate Sir Vidia Naipaul in August  for whom the world is sadder if only it does not fully appreciate the injustices it has poured on one of the finest minds that has spanned the 20th and 21st centuries. The insights in offered into his work placed Demokrissy among the trending new of the global think tanks hungering for refreshing interpretations of our realities in the face of the reign of obtuse, biased and fake newsdom.  In his honour and for the passing previously of Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott, we launch an initial Year of LiTTributes and are inviting partners and sponsors interested in exploring his under appreciated legacy in efforts to support  Quality Lifelong Education (SDG 4); decent work (SDG 8);  industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), reduce inequalities (SDG 10)  sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)  Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Global Partnerships (SDG 17);

 - the unexpected and shocking September loss of the 'Magician' who was the wand weaver in my personal miracle and from which lookng onwards to 2019 will expand and launch new initiatives for Good Health and Well Being (SDG 3); Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6);Climate Action (SDG 13), Clean Air Healthy Oceans (SDG 14) and  Life on Land (SDG 15) for conservation, reduction in pollution and improvement of the quality of life in the world in which we live.
- Even as we celebrate the ascenion to office of the first female President, Paula Mae Weeks n March and Mia Mottley to the Prime Ministership of Barbados, the brutal slaying of fellow gender activist, a tragic end to te remarkable work of a national award holder, Haseena Ali, at her home that added to a list of gender brutality. It recalled, too, the murders of Claire Broadbridge, and Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal previously both of which are still stuck in the judicial system, and emphasis the ongoing need to strengthen efforts for Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16), Gender Equality (SDG 5) Quality Lifelong Education (SDG 4); decent work (SDG 8);  industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), reduce inequalities (SDG 10)  sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and Global Partnerships (SDG 17):  Murder and the Museum  http//goo.gl/FHs3Fr/ Woman in the mirror https://goo.gl/pvnX9d; Murder She Wrote: Death Written in Stone in Dana Seetahal Assassination Creating Centres of Peace in Trinidad and Tobago The Price of Independence:#DanaSeetahalAssassination

-the passing of several other cultural icons as in steelpan, Ellie Manette, Ken Professor Philmore, IndoCaribbean culture as classical singer Jameer Hosein, comedian John Agitation broadcster June Gonsalves, calypsonians Lord Superior and the Mighty Shadow who inspired, in the wake of the devastating October floods that inspired my Symphony of Snakess as a foreshadow and warning of indiscriminate housing, construction, pollution and state mismangement practices and for which Demokrissy raised awareness on the import ance of maintaining a healthy information flow in times of natural disasters with a view to impact Good Health and Well Being (SDG 3); Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6);Climate Action (SDG 13), Clean Air Healthy Oceans (SDG 14) and  Life on Land (SDG 15):

Then there were efforts at promoting cultural inclusion, respect, understanding and appreciation of diversity, bridging intergenerational divide, elederly appreciation, engaging youth, empowering communities in keeping with  Quality Lifelong Education (SDG 4); decent work (SDG 8);  industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), reduce inequalities (SDG 10)  sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)  Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Global Partnerships (SDG 17).
National Recognition Women underrepresented  says gold medalist Dr Kris Ramprsd
 I would meet President Weekes briefly in September as she pinned on the National Medal (Gold) for Development of Women in the spheres for Journalism/Development of Women and some light banter during the photo opp following on 'shoes that should not be hidden by our gowns" and take the opportunity to point out the ongoing levels of inequalities represented in the National Awards when facing the media that night. It is to bridge tis invisibility that I spearheaded several award schemes for not ust women, but media, literature, the arts and culture, having been so awarded myself. I hope to deepen this with relevant partnerships in the coming year.
 It is that responsibility to create a better space for others that all the women we have promoted to high office owe to our society, as in the election by Barbados of its first female Prime Minister in Mia Mottley following on the election of Portia Simpson in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago of Kamla Persad-Bissessar along those in leading political offices, in the Parliament, in the legal fraternity, in education, and elsewhere:  towards Gender equality (Goal 5) as well as Quality Lifelong Education (SDG 4); decent work (SDG 8);  industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), reduce inequalities (SDG 10)  sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)  Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Global Partnerships (SDG 17). The Walk of Excellence: a life in 60 seconds to receive the National Award for the Development of Women: https://goo.gl/wk4pBx ;

The real heroine of this moment for me remains my mother in whose honour I accepted as the potential of all women if afforded the opportunities she sacrified so we could excel.
One moment in time: story of a storyteller extraordinaire: https://goo.gl/xn1XfC
 What My Mother told me: https://goo.gl/CxBJrr
We get strength and resolve from unexpected quarters when we most need it, and these came from several unexpected avenues both from the familiar and the unfamiliar. - This was spiced up and enhanced by
The surprise and dramatic appearance of my infant ABC teacher, the spunky year old Octagenarian Miss Olive, at our exciting LiTTribute to ToronTTo series partly hosted by the Zoomers Association of Trinidad and Tobago in Toronto (ZATTIC) and one of my mid-career editors Raynier Maharaj and the Independent Newspaper and associates in effort to enhance.  Quality Lifelong Education (SDG 4); decent work (SDG 8);  industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), reduce inequalities (SDG 10)  sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)  Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Global Partnerships (SDG 17); Sharing the knowledge: Media in Transition
- an interview with Canadian-base Allattra TV for  its Universal Grain initiative. Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Global Partnerships (SDG 17); - Following the insights offered on the role of gender and leadersip in social change; as Newsday, one of the media institutions in whose founding I was involved, celebrated its 25th anniversary, I shared some reflections and insights on the role of media in social change and transformation at a time when the efforts at truth, solid and proactive journalism for social change is needed more than ever, even in the face of evooving roles of conventional media with the spirit of new media.
   - There too was another surprise encounter at an impromptu LiTTour where surfaced the sacred ground of Canada's First Peoples, still one of  Tronoto's best kept secret followed by intimate insights into the crumbling world of a centuries-old missionary endeavour in the face of evolving multiculturalism and appreciation of diversity and the profound blessings of Catholic Reverend Father Terry Gallagher, one of the few remaining priests of the aging Toronto Scarboro Missions.
 sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)  Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Global Partnerships (SDG 17);
Those experiences  would have made my year, but there was so much more.
It was preceeded by the LiTTribute to the Americas towards awakening and deepening the consciousness of our intrinsic connections in the American diaspora on the vast potential of cultural heritage encounters to education and the creative industries. Here was the healing touch of another primary school teacher, Miss Marion whose incredible drive and optimism is the kind of  surfaced to link to the LiTTribute to the Americas with the Trinidad and Tobago diaspora where Kamal Abdool, Anglican Father Winston Joseph and  from the series that continues its journeying and will explore new cross cultural continental connections in the year ahead. sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)  Peace Justice & Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Global Partnerships (SDG 17)...It brings into sharp focus how our losses are the gains of others and what we are losing for national develoment when we push our best mentors and trainers out.
-The vision for promoting the seamlessness on a cross cultural platform that bridge religious divides, and intergenerational gaps, fostering elderly appreciation, uniting diverse groups  through culture, where diversity sparks curiosity and interest and inquiry and understanding, rather than tear apart, could not have been better exemplified in this literary odyssey and we look forward to the new connections to be forged.
Discovering New Talent! Forays into Fiction & Music While trying to create and broaden opportunities in the creative sector and advancing creative synergies for young and old, I also stepped up efforts to release some of my own work, including fiction and others in a mixture of genres and exploring adaptations into new media forms and formats, more of which will be released this coming year.
youtube
And so too I even discovered some of my own latent talents - and with the help of musicician maestro Randolph Karamath, I made an unexpected musical/steelpan debut, playing some old and enduring folk classical strains on one of the world's newest instruments, the steelpan - a crowning achievement of the year! Can't wait to find out what new talents will surface this year!
A proud moment with Ma  at the launch of my first book
     In all of this, there is only one most obvious choice for Woman of  the Year.
 Ma.
Her own amazing journey as she enters her nonagenarian year. Nonagerian is the word for someone entering their nineties....and it seems apt as she seems non-aging in her sharp mind and incredible wit, while body displays its mortal limitations. She remains the spring and source of inspiration forwards as we look forward to further inroads in the literary journeys which promises to exapnd into deepening perspectives on connections Europe, Asia - India, China, Africa and Australia this coming year, while at home we still pound at the doors to open up our education and other systems to the vast vistas appreciation of our multicultural streams can.... Congratulations to Mia Mottley, another Caribbean woman to break through the political glass ceiling! Let's change the conversation on gender, leadership and development. What does her clean sweep of the polls, leaving no opposition in Parliament mean for governance in a traditional two party political system? What lessons can she learn from her sisters in the Caribbean, Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Portia Simpson? Would her policy and decision maing agenda make a difference to the entrenched culture of politics, culture of business, culture of corruption, culture of crime and criminality, culture of discrimination, marginalisation, opportunism, nepotism and entitlem

I think, therefore I am! I Read therefore I crime! It is so traceable, so many of our cultural attitudes and behaviour, nurtured and conditioned by hand me down colonial intelligence and practiced by the new massas. We do not have far to go to see the roots of criminalising of intelligence, the quest for knowledge, and critical thinking, even by the institutions charged with protecting them,would rather expend their energies to seek to criminalise attempts like this to raise consciousness about the oversight and  plagarise rather than do active research and work to get meaningful revisions. So one doesnt have to go far to understand that all talk about building a knowledge economy is all hot air! It feeds a national climate of insecurity that extends way beyond crimes of violence.

Street Trash. 1987. Directed by Jim Muro. Screenplay by Roy Frumkes. Starring Mike Lackey, Bill Chepil, Vic Noto, Mark Sferrazza, Jane Arakawa, Nicole Potter, Pat Ryan, Clarenze Jarmon, Bernard Perlman, Miriam Zucker, M. D’Jango Krunch, Bruce Torbet, & James Lorinz. Street Trash Joint Venture Rated R. 101 minutes. Comedy/Horror
★★★ Roll those eyes all you want— we’re digging into Jim Muro’s 1987 shlockfest of gore + weird, Street Trash! For all its trashiness, there’s decent socioeconomic commentary buried in this seemingly pointless story. After the 1970s, New York City couldn’t get any worse. Although things weren’t much better in the ’80s. Still lots of crime, corruption, and the homeless population kept growing. Along with little change in social conditions, the attitudes towards social issues and those affected by them hadn’t changed much, either. Homelessness, even today, is demonised, let alone back in the late ’80s. Many were unsympathetic towards the plight of those who had to sleep on the street, least of which certainly weren’t capitalists. This is basically the crux of Street Trash— the homeless are disregarded except when it comes to any way a business/organisation can capitalise on their existence, thus the nasty booze Viper is unloaded onto street alcoholics, whose organs liquefy after just one drink. We see a homeless community already divided by mental illness, alcoholism, and other issues, only further disrupted by the deadly Viper. A ridiculous B-movie, yes. Not without its charms, nor its smarts. Immediately we’re introduced to the urban and social decay of NYC. The urban area of the city is full of the homeless, cheque cashing places attached directly to liquor stores where our greedy society has conveniently placed the two business, among other landmarks typical of deteriorated areas. Already we see the tell-tale signs of exploitation of the working/lower classes. All the city’s most vulnerable are taken advantage of by destructive businesses. Low prices, in a capitalist economy, are often indicative of what’s destructive or unhealthy, such as how cheap food is, more often than not, so much worse than overpriced healthy food. In comes Viper! A sleazy liquor store owner wants to make a quick buck, so he shells out a bunch of unknown booze for financial gain. A massive negative to urbanism. Along with addictions and mental health issues, urban areas are unfortunately plagued by senseless violence. It’s usually brought about/perpetuated by the conditions in which they’re forced to live. Like in Street Trash, the lowest classes get turned against one another. A hierarchy exists between the regular homeless and Bronson (Vic Noto), a self-imposed leader amongst the community. He’s also a damaged, forgotten Vietnam veteran. The character of Bronson brings an entirely new perspective into the story. Just his presence and the terrifying nature of psychopathy is an indictment of how imperialist America – driven by greed+war – can’t even taken care of its own veterans with all their money. He’s left to deteriorate mentally until he becomes a danger to himself and everyone else around him, ruling the homeless with an iron fist. Instead of being given help he’s chased down by police. Worst of all, in retrospect, it hasn’t gotten any better. Only today, conservatives try blaming it on immigration instead of the fact they’re simply failing their own citizens, or, y’know, actively refusing to do anything for them— to-ma-to, to-mah-to.
“That’s ’cause you boys haven’t learned to shop frugal.”
Perhaps the best part of Street Trash is the function of all the gory, gooey, grisly decomposition occurring after the homeless sip on the Viper liquor. They literally become waste— symbolic of how they’re treated by a society who couldn’t care any less about the underlying issues of their homelessness, only how their homelessness creates trouble for society. Like the decaying urban environment around them, the homeless community – via Viper’s devastating effects – deteriorate physically becoming part of the junkyard wasteland in which they live. Similar to how homelessness removes the barrier of interior v. exterior – demarcating space/place – their bodies transform into a part of the landscape of waste itself, no longer bodies but junk in the yard. The best instance is the 1st Viper death. Muro frames the gruesome death of this man with shots of ruined buildings, shattered glass everywhere, fields of debris and various junk. As the homeless man melts his cries are absorbed in the silence of a ruined, forgotten area of the city far removed from the boundaries of so-called civilised parts of the city. The cherry on top: he melts into a non-working toilet. Usually, a toilet’s function is to carry away waste, taking unclean, abject things we don’t want to think of/deal with and moves it somewhere deemed acceptable. Problem is, this toilet’s just a shell, porcelain bones sitting amongst other unusable things, including humans seen as broken/not fixable, and so the waste – the liquefied homeless man – only remains in the wasteland. A tragic cycle of destruction. A wasteland of capitalist failure(s). In its own unique and hideous way, Street Trash has a whole lot of things to say about society, its treatment of the homeless and the lower classes, as well as the way in which a filthy rich capitalist society such as the USA ignores its veterans while banging on the war drum all but constantly, decade after decade. The city, here, is a treacherous, unforgiving, trash-filled landscape, a heap of discarded, forgotten bodies and metal and rubble. Not to say Muro and screenwriter Roy Frumkes were aiming at anything lofty with their material other than trying hard to be gross + wild. Neither does it mean the movie can’t succeed on both levels. Critical theory is all about how the viewer interprets a movie. It doesn’t matter about intent. It matters how the audience infers what’s being said by the movie itself, not its makers. Just as easy to sit back, let this ’80s classic of trashy horror thrill you with nonsense! Nobody has to take it so seriously. But in a day and age where people want to discount horror as a genre when they think certain modern movies are ‘advancing the genre’ by suddenly being focused on social issues, it’s worth noting how even the seemingly shittiest little horrors can provide us with food for thought. Father Gore would rather look for gold in the turds instead of tearing down an entire genre. Ultimately, a movie like Street Trash proves genre cinema can be so much more than only a good, fun time— in genre, there’s power.
The Horrors of Homelessness in STREET TRASH Street Trash. 1987. Directed by Jim Muro. Screenplay by Roy Frumkes. Starring Mike Lackey, Bill Chepil, Vic Noto, Mark Sferrazza, Jane Arakawa, Nicole Potter, Pat Ryan, Clarenze Jarmon, Bernard Perlman, Miriam Zucker, M.
