My current, loose and not that interesting goal for this year is to really work on the books I have current access to right now... at the start of this year. Because it's a lot XD This means books currently favorite in Scribd, on my StoryGraph 'to read' pile, or a book I currently own on my shelves. Main goal is at least one of these a month.
For my own personal reference, I'm putting a list of such books below to hold myself accountable.
Edit: Now the end of 2023, and here's a breakdown of my goal to read books I already had access to at the start of 2023:
I didn't read one a month per se, but I got more than 12 done, so I call this a win. These books are:
-Can't Spell Treason Without Tea - Rebecca Thorn -The City Beautiful - Aden Polydoros -Finn Mac Cool - Morgan Llewlyn -The First Sister by Linden A Lewis (proceeded by the other two in the series) -Get a Life, Chloe Brown - Talia Hibbert -The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls -Haunted Wisconsin - Michael Norman & Beth Scott -Her Majesty's Royal Coven - Juno Dawson -I Await the Devil's Coming - Mary McClane -The Kraken's Sacrifice - Katee Robert -Lavinia - Ursula K Le Guin -Love Her or Lose Her - Tessa Bailey -Mistress of the Art of Death - Ariana Franklin -Nevada - Imogen Binnie -The Prince - Niccolo Machiavelli -Rosemary and Rue - Seanan McGuire -The Ruins - Scott Smith -The Song of Achilles - Madeline Miller -Sarah - J.T. LeRoy -Vampire Forensics - Mark Collins Jenkins -What Happened to You? - Oprah Winfrey -The Witch King - H. E. Edgmon -The Woman in White - Wilkie Collins
The books I did not get around to reading from this list are as follows: Black Water Sister by Zen Cho; Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye (o); The Book of M by Peng Shepard (o); Charity and Sylvia by Rachel Hope Cleves (o); The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (a); The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey (s); Fallen by Lauren Kate (o); Fanny Hill by John Cleland (o); Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender (s); The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea (s); The Great Hunger by Cecil Woodham-Smith (o); Helping Her Get Free by Susan Brewster (o); The Impossible Girl by Lydia Kang (s); Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (o); The Merry Spinster by Daniel Lavery (o); On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong (o); The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang (s); Radiance by Grace Draven (a); Watching the Tree by Adeline Yen Mah (o); The Willows by Algernon Blackwood (s); Wings of Fire (o); Witches Steeped in Gold by Clannon Smart (o); The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid (s)
23/46 Whoa! That's exactly 50% of the books I had on my list! That's pretty cool! All in all, I consider this 2023 goal successfully done!

@bothsidesofaquestion | continued from here
“well now, Elf...” Logan’s grin widens further, his chin dipping to hide his eyes beneath the brim of his hat. This little game of chicken between him and Kurt is finally coming to a head, and the Canuckle Head aims to make the most of it, “...How d’you expect me to choose without tryin’ it both ways first?”
Tumblr media
Pushing off the doorway, Logan ambles closer to the blue-skinned mutant. He slips into Kurt’s personal space with the ease of their long familiarity, flicking the cowboy hat off his head to hang down his back by its leather cord. Jutting his chin out, the Canuck shoots Wagner a look of unspoken challenge, his eyebrows arching even as mirth creases crows feet at the corner of his eyes.
He’s put the ball back in the Elf’s court; Kurt can take Logan at his word... Or he can laugh this whole thing off. Either way, he won’t be losing their friendship.

Kurt’s Mail Order Bride   9
Cowboy!Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) x Mutant!OC
Descriptions:   Kurt tries to clear up the misunderstanding, and a storm threatens the cattle.
A/n- They’re doing their best...? At least Kurt’s strange childhood comes in handy, I guess. Also... I have never lived on a cattle ranch, nor have I worked on one, but I’ve been around when they herd cattle, so if there’s any discrepancies you notice... yeah, let me know...

Story!
Beth opened her door, finishing putting her hair up in a bun.
She stepped out into the room, determined not to look over to the couch where Kurt would be, but as she looked up to the corner where the kitchen was, he was sitting at the table, reading a worn book.
He looked up as she halted in her steps. “Gute- good morning,” he greeted softly.
Beth looked away, turning to go to the stove.
“The fire is going,” he said, his voice again soft.
Beth stopped, hesitating before turning toward the door.
It was just too bizarre; him being so nice after telling her he’d never like her, getting up early to do work.
“I’ve milked the cow already,” he told her, thinking that’s where she would be going so early.
Beth let out an irritated, exasperated sigh and quickened her pace, leaving the house.
Kurt stared at the door for a minute, then set his book down, covering his face with his hand.
Beth returned after a short time, and made breakfast silently, not talking through the meal, either. She just didn’t want to talk, and it didn’t bother Logan, but Kurt looked at her in concern.
After a silent lunch, Beth had gone into the barn to get away from the house, which was warm from the chicken she’d put in to roast.
She put the pail in her hands on the ground, looking to make sure the cow had enough water and hay. She turned back to the pail, but stopped as she heard the sound of something dropping from the hayloft. She turned back to see Kurt standing there, and quickly moved to leave.
“Beth,” he called to her, and she paused, feeling her heart tug at his voice saying her name. “Are you mad at me?” He asked.
She let out a sigh and went to pick up the pail.
Kurt appeared next to her, reaching out for the pail, his hand landing on hers. “Let me help you with that, you’re still injured.”
Beth looked up at him, an edge in her silver eyes, making them resemble knives. “Careful, you’re touching me.”
“Huh?” Kurt managed to get out, confused.
“And we know how much you’d hate to do that,” she said, bitterly.
Kurt’s eyes widened, but he didn’t remove his hand.
“You think I meant I wouldn’t touch you at all?” He asked, but then it clicked and he said in shock, “you think I meant I wouldn’t want to touch you.”
Beth glared at him, trying to pull her hand away, but it was trapped between his hand and the handle of the pail.
“Beth-”
She pushed her other hand forward, making a forcefield that pushed him away, letting her hand free.
“Beth, that’s not what I said,” he told her.
She turned and started away, but he appeared between her and the door.
She tried to push past him, but his hand caught her wrist, careful to avoid the burn on the back of her hand.
He pulled her around to him. “Beth-”
She tugged and dropped the pail, going to push against him again, but he caught that wrist, too, pointing her hands at the ceiling so she couldn’t use her powers against him.
“Beth, Logan asked if I had- if I’d forced you- hurt you,” he told her.
Beth tightened her abs and arched her stomach, thrusting herself forward to create a forcefield between them with her stomach, bouncing Kurt back.
Kurt nearly tripped, would have, if he hadn’t grown up as a performer in the circus, and had a natural agility. He straightened, still holding her wrists, looking into her eyes. “I’d- I’d never hurt you, Beth,” he told her, ignoring her attempts to get away.
“You’re hurting me now,” she told him, twisting her wrist in his grip.
Kurt sighed and let go, knowing she’d run away.
Beth turned and started to the door, pausing in the open space to turn back. “You really didn’t mean that?” She asked him, her eyes trained on the floor.
“No, I didn’t,” he answered.
She paused a moment, but ducked out of the door silently, leaving Kurt in the barn alone.
He ran his hands over his face and through his hair, letting out a sigh.
At least she didn’t think he hated her. But… He still hurt, knowing that she’d thought he did.
Why?
Why did he care what she thought about him?
His heart tightened in response, but it seemed to be speaking a different language.
… … … …
Beth turned to the clothesline in front of her, pulling down the laundry as quickly as she could.
“What are you doing?” Kurt asked as he appeared by her.
She looked up at him, her heart jumping at his closeness. “Taking the clothes off the line,” she answered.
“Why? Didn’t you put them up not too long ago?”
She nodded. “There’s a storm coming, a big one.”
Logan walked past, calling over, “if yer gonna stand there, why don’t ya help her. Storm’s comin’.”
Kurt turned to the line, taking down sheets and clothes, folding them quickly and putting them in the basket Beth had on the ground.
He helped her carry the over heavy load into the house, and they set it in front of the couch.
“Thank you, for the help,” she told him.
It had been about two weeks since the incident in the barn, and Kurt was glad to see that she was relaxed again, not so upset over the misunderstanding.
He smiled at her, and would swear that her cheeks turned a light pink before she took a stack of linens and headed to the back.
The wind picked up, and started blowing dust visibly past the window.
Kurt looked to the door as Logan burst in.
“Beth, I need ya, it’s gettin' bad, we gotta get the cattle to the winter field.”
Beth came out of her room, setting the sheets in her arms on the couch as she passed.
Kurt followed. “I want to help.”
Logan nodded his head to the door. “We’ll figure somethin’ out for ya.”
They hurried out, Logan climbing onto his horse.
Beth hurried to the horse stalls, pulling reins onto Babylon.
“You’re not putting on a saddle?” Kurt asked.
“No time,” she said as she shook her head. “Going to have to go bareback. He’s done this before anyway, right, Babe?” She asked the horse as Kurt pulled down a set of reins. “What are you doing?” She asked as he followed her outside, pulling the other horse.
“Coming with you. Obviously, whatever we’re doing, I’ll need a horse.”
“He’s not a rider,” she told him. “You could get hurt!” She called as he pulled the horse past her into open space.
“I’m not a normal rider,” he told her, easily leaping onto the horse’s back, getting into a position that looked a lot like kneeling.
“He’s trained not to turn sharply,” she yelled to him over the wind, trying to convince him not to do what he was attempting as she pulled herself onto Babe’s back, but there was no time to argue.
The horses seemed nervous to be outside, but Beth stroked down Babe’s neck, talking softly in his ear. “You’ve done this before, just like back home.”
Kurt followed her to the pen, both of them entering the gate Logan closed after them.
“The winter pen gate is open,” he gestured in the direction of it. “I’m gonna make a round, make sure we’ve got ‘em all,” he told them, turning and heading away.
“Buck!” Beth called.
Kurt followed Beth, watching as she made large passes around the cattle, calling to the dog to crisscross with her, herding the cattle easily.
He was surprised; he’d heard of herding cattle, read a bit about it, and he’d imagined it to be more exciting than just passing back and forth behind them, but, Beth looked so confident that maybe that’s why it looked so easy.
He got closer, trying to get the horse to cross in a pattern with them, but, as Beth had told him, he didn’t want to turn sharply.
They’d gotten most of the cattle into the chute to the other pen, only a few left on this end, but one buckled in the pressure of the storm, and turned back, not wanting to follow the rest.
Kurt rode straight against it, looking at the steer’s face and yelling for it to turn around as he'd seen Logan do.
The steer debated for a moment, but made ready to go at the horse.
The horse reared, and Beth cried out, knowing that Kurt would fall off and be trampled by the horse and the steer.
The steer, though, thought better of being stomped on by the horse and turned back to the chute.
Beth’s eyes raised from the ground, not able to see Kurt there, only to see him standing on the horse’s back haunches, still holding the reins.
Beth blinked, her heart beating faster.
The image of him riding bareback, the horse rearing and him standing with the horse, not thrown, and like nothing was wrong...
That was strength.
That was a real cowboy.
That was a real man.
Her heart was fluttering, her breath coming in a short pant.
The horse’s hooves returned to the ground and Kurt returned to his strange kneeling like pose.
“Are you ok?” He asked her.
Beth felt her cheeks burn hotter and she looked away, yelling to the dog and following him, ushering the cattle down the chute, Kurt following her.
Logan joined them as they were getting the last of them into the pen, ushering the remainder of the herd.
The wind was blowing strongly, making Logan tuck his hat lower, angled to not lose it, and blowing Beth’s hair from her bun, the ribbon untied by the wind and flying away.
“Hey!” She yelped, reaching out for it, but blinded by the mess of hair now swirling around her face.
“Let’s head back,” Logan called after securing the herd, turning to the gate.
They hurried the horses to the stalls, pulling the door closed after them.
Beth slid down from Babe, trying to brush her hair out of her face so she could take care to brush him and take the reins off. He softly brayed to her, glad to be inside.
Logan wiped his brow, adjusting his hat after putting his horse in his stall, looking over to see Kurt brushing out the horse he’d ridden. “Where’d you learn to ride like that?”
Kurt looked up and asked, “you mean bareback?”
“Standing on the horse,” he answered.
Kurt grinned to him. “The circus. There were a few trick riders, and I got to ride the horses a little, but they mostly had to practice. They weren’t riding horses either.”
Logan nodded and turned to gathering extra hay for the horses. Beth went to help him, but he looked over her nest like hair and disheveled dress. “Hey, Kurt. Why don’t ya take Beth and go back to the house, I’ll finish up here.”
Kurt walked up to her, looking a little nervous. He held out his arm to her, and she pushed back a blush, holding out her arm as well, expecting him to wrap it around his, but his arm wrapped around her back, hand on her waist. She felt her cheeks heating and looked down, feeling his chest suddenly against her side.
“Hold on,” he said quietly before teleporting.
In two blinks, Beth was standing on the floor in front of the couch in the house.
It took her another moment to realize she was still holding on to him, and pull back, turning and taking the linens she’d dumped on the couch on the way out. “I should probably put these away, now. And fix my hair.” She sighed. “I liked that ribbon, too,” she said as she started away, missing as Kurt’s hand went to his pocket. “Too bad it’s gone, now.”
“Ja,” Kurt agreed in a strange voice.

Kurt’s Mail Order Bride Masterlist
Cowboy!Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) x Mutant!OC
Tumblr media
(from the comics, found on the interwebs...)
Descriptions:   Old westAU In about 1900 Germany, Kurt has heard stories about the wild west and dreamt about being a cowboy for a long time. When he’s brought over to America and sent to live with Logan he’s excited, until he learns what hard work a ranch actually is. Logan knows a woman will set him straight from his shenanigans, and brings one back. Kurt hopes for love, but they can’t seem to get along.
A/n- I watched the (1964) western movie “Mail Order Bride” and thought it would be hilarious to make a story and stick our favorite blue fuzzy man in! Also… He’s kind of a whiny brat in the beginning… because that’s where he had to be to have character growth! lol.   NSFW 18+   (In Progress)
Types: Smut. Romance, angst, mutual pining, Old west au
Overall series warnings: Smut, swearing, German (translations provided, but I have bad grammar… Sorry native speakers…) (can’t remember any more at the moment)

Peregrine “Perry” Van Dort || 23 || Jeenu Mahadevan
+ -thoughtful, giving, kind - -meek, distractable, serious
Powers – Clairaudient (the power or faculty of hearing something not present to the ear but regarded as having objective reality, in regards to spirits.)
CHARACTER INSPO
1. Gilbert Blythe – A big chunk of Gil’s existence, aside from harassing Anne, was to push himself in his studies, so much so that he eventually becomes a doctor. Although Perry is very easily distracted at times, he pushes himself to achieve the best in anything he sets his mind to.
2. Eric Draven – Perry will never be Eric Draven completely. He has no plans to go on a killing spree to avenge anyone…. But he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t kinda creepy with his clairaudient abilities. For the first few years of his life he was bumped around from home to home because he was often viewed as trouble or a danger to those around him. Vic squared was the first couple that saw the ‘problem’ as something to get used to and learn how to help with instead of an insurmountable hurdle.
3. Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) – Kurt is a sweet character who is often viewed as different because… well, he is. He learns to embrace it and that’s what Perry has been doing for twenty years, learning to love himself and not be ashamed of who he is.
Hogwarts House – Ravenclaw Divergent Faction – Eriudite Hunger Games District – District 3 (Technology)
Perry’s Playlist 1. Rocketman – Elton John 2. Into the West – Annie Lennox 3. Ask DNA from Cowboy Bebop 4. Cirque – Sub Urban 5. Burning Pile – Mother Mother
Fun Facts: ~ Perry was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in his early teens. It can keep him down but he’s learned how he can work with it on his good days and how to take care of himself on the bad ones. ~Perry didn’t talk until he was almost seven. His schooling was delayed because of this. ~ He got his musical ability from Victor, much to his dad’s excitement. ~ He’s going to school to be a music teacher.
CONNECTIONS:
Siblings: Kat, Aaliya Friends; Olive, Effie, Vesper YOU! (message me for connections) Other: Ellie (boss), Remus (young love lost (?)),  ALSO YOU! (message me for connections <3)

Eli Manning’s legacy, NFL playoff picture, Raiders farewell and more
Eli Manning said his farewell to New York on Sunday, but the Giants legend deserves a moment of remembrance beyond the cheers.
Eli Manning had the rarest of moments in sports. He got to say a proper goodbye.
Manning walked off the MetLife Stadium field to a standing ovation from the remaining fans following a 36-20 win over the Miami Dolphins. The New York Giants are a forgettable 3-11 and Manning is finished as a quality quarterback, but the day wasn’t about the present. It was about a career worth celebrating.
For years, Manning has been an unfortunate punching bag both locally and nationally. Some fans were happy when No. 10 was benched for Geno Smith by former head coach Ben McAdoo. On social media, the 38-year-old has been meme’d and mocked.
Now, nobody is here to say Manning hasn’t been given a damn good shake. He was taken first-overall in the 2004 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers before forcing his way to the Giants. Once there, he learned under Kurt Warner before starting the second half of his rookie season. Manning was blessed to play for a future Hall of Fame coach in Tom Coughlin, surrounded by elite talent on both sides of the ball.
Manning is no victim, but he is underrated. History will remember him in a better light.
Why? Because regular-season miscues fade when compared to Manning’s postseason exploits. The four-time Pro Bowler has thrown 241 interceptions, and lost as many games as he has won. He’s led the league in INTs three times and made the postseason only six times in 16 years.
Still, Manning made the most of his opportunities.
Manning was never elite. He never put up Hall of Fame numbers. In 2007, Manning went to Tampa Bay, Dallas and Green Bay in the playoffs, and won ’em all. In Super Bowl XLII, he engineered one of the great NFL upsets, beating a previously-undefeated New England Patriots team, highlights by his epic late-down-the-middle heave to David Tyree.
Four seasons later, Manning once again won the NFC Championship Game on the road, taking brutal shots from the San Francisco 49ers. Two weeks later, he stayed the Pats once more, punctuated by a phenomenal sideline throw to Mario Manningham.
Manning’s two best plays essentially won two Super Bowls. How many players’ best moments are so important?
Arguing Manning as a great quarterback is incorrect. Arguing him as one of the most important in the game’s history is a better route. And, frankly, that is Manning’s potential ticket to the Hall of Fame. You can’t tell the NFL’s story without him.
After this season, Manning will be finished in New York. Maybe he’s finished period. He doesn’t need the money, so why hold a clipboard?
If this is it, Manning will retire as an unqualified success. Two rings, two indelible moments.
On Sunday, Giants fans got to say goodbye. Another moment for Manning.
Power rankings
Top 10 underrated quarterbacks in NFL history
1. Y.A. Tittle, New York Giants (MVP, 3x All-Pro, 7x Pro Bowl, 242 TDs) 2. Dan Fouts, San Diego Chargers (4x passing champ, 6x Pro Bowl, Off. POY, HOF) 3. Steve Young, San Francisco 49ers (3x Super Bowl champ, 3x All-Pro, 2x MVP) 4. Boomer Esiason, Cincinnati Bengals (4x Pro Bowl, 1x All-Pro, MVP, Super Bowl appearance) 5. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons (4x Pro Bowl, 1x All-Pro, MVP, Super Bowl appearance) 6. Steve McNair, Tennessee Titans (3x Pro Bowl, MVP, Super Bowl appearance) 7. Phil Simms, New York Giants (2x Super Bowl champion, 199 TDs) 8. Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals/Arizona Cardinals (3x Pro Bowl, 46,247 yards) 9. Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia Eagles (6x Pro Bowl, Super Bowl appearance) 10. Mark Brunell, Jacksonville Jaguars (3x Pro Bowl, 184 TDs)
Quotable
“I’ll be fine. The doctor says if everybody go out and vote for me for Man of the Year, it’ll be better.”
– Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner on his ankle after win over the Carolina Panthers
After injuring his ankle during a 30-24 triumph in Carolina, Wagner gave Seattle fans the best news on the day. The All-Pro linebacker’s health is fine as the Seahawks remain in control of their own destiny.
With two more wins — including a Week 17 win over the 49ers in CenturyLink Field — Seattle would finish the regular season 13-3 and the NFC’s top seed.
Plenty to shake out in the NFC playoff picture.

Jameis Winston threw his 30th touchdown on Sunday in a 38-17 win over the Detroit Lions. Should he throw for 427 yards over Tampa Bay’s final two games, he’ll eclipse the 5,000-yard mark.
If Winston does so, he becomes the eighth quarterback all-time to amass 5,000 passing yards and 30 touchdowns in a single season. After rampant speculation regarding Winston’s future, it seems quite likely the Buccaneers will bring him back for 2020 if not longer after a breakout campaign.
Info learned this week
1. Texans wrestle control from Titans, and now the race clears up
Deshaun Watson and Bill O’Brien are breathing much easier.
After beating the previously red-hot Tennessee Titans 24-21 on Sunday, the Houston Texans suddenly have a vice grip on the AFC South. While only leading by a game with two remaining, Houston owns the tiebreaker over Tennessee. A win against Tampa Bay on Sunday or the Titans in Week 17 wraps up a second straight division title.
As for Tennessee, a late surge might come up short. The Titans need to beat the New Orleans Saints next week and then take down the Texans to have any realistic shot of a playoff berth. While conceivable, a tall order.
Should the Titans come up short, the next questions surround Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry. Both have proven huge cogs in the offense alongside rookie receiver A.J. Brown. How does general manager Jon Robinson allocate resources?
The thought here? A long-term deal for Henry, and a pay-as-you-go pact for Tannehill dressed up as a multi-year contract.
2. Ravens, Chiefs separating from rest of AFC
The New England Patriots can’t be discounted. The Baltimore Ravens and Kanas City Chiefs are the AFC’s top two teams. Both things can be true at once.
On Thursday, Lamar Jackson accounted for five touchdowns in a rout of the New York Jets. On Sunday, Kansas City’s emerging defense smashed Drew Lock and the Denver Broncos. The Chiefs won 23-3, with Patrick Mahomes throwing for 340 yards and two scores. Both teams are rolling.
GOING DEEP: KC rookies are leading charge for Andy Reid’s club
Meanwhile, the Patriots led 13-10 at halftime over the one-win Bengals before pulling away in the second half for a 34-14 victory. Still, the trouble signs are everywhere. Tom Brady completed 15-of-29 for 128 yards. Of the wide receivers, N’Keal Harry led New England with 15 yards.
The Patriots are attempting to reach their fourth consecutive Super Bowl. They might well have a postseason bye. Counting out Brady and head coach Bill Belichick would be absurd.
It would also be absurd to not state the obvious. The Baltimore and Kansas City are ascending. New England appears stuck in neutral.
3. Packers’ offense a clear concern with playoffs looming
Green Bay keeps winning, but the Packers have obvious problems.
In a 21-13 win over the Chicago Bears, Aaron Rodgers went 16-of-33 for 203 yards and a touchdown. Green Bay was outgained 415-292 in total yards, only to be bailed out by a trio of Chicago turnovers.
Barring a loss to the last-place Detroit Lions in Week 17, the Packers will win the NFC North. They might even end up with home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Still, Green Bay’s offense has largely been underwhelming in recent weeks. The defense is good, but can it be great against elite competition for a month straight?
If the Packers are going to win their fifth Lombardi Trophy, they’ll need Rodgers and the offense to be better than they’ve been.
4. Bills, Steelers must find offensive groove to be playoff threats
The Buffalo Bills are in. The Pittsburgh Steelers might be. If either wants to stay more than three hours, the offenses need to show up.
On Sunday night at Heinz Field, we saw two terrific defenses in Buffalo’s 17-10 win. We also saw Josh Allen miss one open receiver after the next, while Duck Hodges lived up to his first name with four interceptions. Yes, defense can win games, but in the playoffs, offenses rife with miscues go home.
On an aside, Bills fans should be thrilled. After failing to make the playoffs from 1999-2016, Buffalo is now making its second trip in three years under head coach Sean McDermott. Both he and general manager Brandon Beane deserve ample credit for the program they’ve built.
No, they aren’t serious AFC contenders yet, but the Bills are a good team. They’ve come a long way in a short time.
5. Cowboys, Eagles may finally put the NFC East race to a merciful end
Our long, national nightmare might end. We might have an NFC East champion come Sunday.
After throttling the Los Angeles Rams and essentially ending their playoff dreams, the Cowboys visit the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend. The same Eagles who barely survived the Washington Redskins and New York Giants, juggernauts who are a combined 6-20.
If Dallas wins, it clinches the NFC’s No. 4 seed. At 8-7 and with a tiebreaker over Philadelphia, Week 17 becomes moot. If the Eagles win, they would need either a win over New York or a Dallas loss to Washington in the season’s final weekend to advance.
Maybe the Cowboys turned the proverbial corner on Sunday. We’re about to find out.
History lesson
The Raiders played their final game in Oakland on Sunday. The postgame was emotional, with players and coaches saying their goodbyes to the Black Hole after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 20-16.
For longtime Raiders’ fans by the bay, it’s been a journey. The team was founded by Wayne Valley in 1960 in the American Football League. The organization was on the verge of relocation a few years later, only to be saved by a loan from Bills founder, Ralph Wilson.
From 1967-75, the Raiders went to seven AFC/AFL title games. They lost all but one, and were hammered by the Packers in Super Bowl II. Finally, in 1976, they went 13-1 and beat the Vikings in Super Bowl XI. Four years later, they won it all once more, handling the Eagles in the Superdome.
The return to glory was short. Owner Al Davis was in litigation against the NFL to move his team to Los Angeles. He won. The Los Angeles Raiders came to be in 1982. Thirteen years and a title later, they were back in Oakland. It seemed one of the league’s largest wrongs had been righted. Now, it’s so wrong again.
Perhaps Las Vegas ends up being a wonderful NFL city. Maybe the fans embrace the silver and black. Maybe the Raiders win a few Lombardi Trophies in the coming years.
Still, one can’t help but mourn the move. Oakland has great fans. It deserves so much more.
It deserves a football team.
Parting shot
Jay Glazer did all NFL fans a service on Sunday morning.
The well-respected FOX insider secured the Patriots footage in question last week regarding whether they filmed the Cincinnati sideline. From the initial viewing, New England can’t feel confident.
A cameraman in Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s employ filmed the Bengals’ sideline continuously. In the video, the same employee can clearly be heard offering to destroy the tape. No such luck. Whether Bill Belichick and his staff have any involvement remains to be seen. According to Glazer, the league is attempting to wrap up its investigation shortly. More answers are coming, and perhaps a stiff fine and the forfeiture of draft picks.
GOING DEEP: Video shows Patriots in hot water
Fans in New England will cry foul, but optics matter here as well. Whether the Patriots were trying to gain a competitive advantage or simply had someone on the payroll with no knowledge of league rules, it’s on them. They need to be held accountable for shoddy practices, and after being popped for both SpyGate and DeflateGate, one would imagine they will be.
New England has dealt with myriad on-field issues this season. It’s biggest off-field one is only growing.

Story!
As Beth checked the meat in the oven, crouching to see better, she heard the door open and turned to see Kurt walk in.
She closed the oven door quickly. Too quickly, as the towel slipped a little, making her gasp as the hot cast iron of the stove touched her hand, and the back of her finger as she jerked it away.
Kurt appeared next to her in a plume of smoke, crouching next to her now kneeling form. “Are you ok?” He asked, taking her injured hand and looking at it.
Beth blinked at him, torn in response. The pain in her hand was starting to leave her mind, even if it wasn’t leaving her hand.
He was holding her hand, sounding concerned for her.
It was strange; it made her heart beat fast, her stomach quiver, while the pain stung and seared.
“I- I’m fine,” she told him, cheeks pink.
Kurt let her hand go as she took it, standing with her, noticing that her shirt was still unbuttoned for the top three or four buttons, showing her smooth, elegant neck, and giving a hint of cleavage. He swallowed hard and forced his eyes to hers.
The front door opened, startling them both, and Logan walked in.
He looked them both over for a moment and started brushing himself off. “Dinner about ready?”
Kurt and Beth both took a breath and glanced at each other before Beth went to the counter.
“Almost, I just have to finish the vegetables,” she answered. She picked up the knife there, but Kurt stepped close.
“Let me do that,” he told her.
“I can do it,” she told him, looking at him in confusion.
“Let me, you hurt yourself,” he answered.
“I’m fine, it’s on the back of my hand,” she said, turning to block him.
“Beth.”
A shiver ran down her spine at her name leaving his lips, his tongue wrapping it in his accent.
“You’re hurt. Let me help you.”
“He actually wants to help, let him,” Logan told her from the seat he’d taken at the table.
Beth stepped back and let Kurt take the knife from her hand, remembering that it was burnt, and going to get a cool cloth to put on it.
A few minutes later, when Beth went to check the oven, Kurt set down the knife and shooed her away. “I’ll get that,” he told her, taking three towels from the counter.
“I can-” She cut off as his tail, using a towel, opened the oven and he pulled the meat from inside with his two toweled hands.
He set it on top of the stove, closing the door with his toweled tail. “Nein, your hand is burned, so it will hurt if it gets near the heat,” she realized he’d been telling her.
Her eyes lifted to his, and she realized she’d been staring at him.
He was continuing to look at her, his golden eyes searching for an answer to something in her silver ones.
Kurt was staring, her eyes looked so soft and gentle, her lips were parted, it was making him want to kiss her, and she looked like she wanted him to.
Logan cleared his throat, and Beth’s eyes widened.
When had her cheeks gotten so warm?
She quickly turned away and started walking toward the door. “Excuse me,” she said as she stepped out into the cooler night air.
She’d been standing there, staring at him, wishing for something she knew would never happen, her cheeks flushed and body yearning.
No wonder Kurt had been looking at her like that; he’d probably been wondering if she was ok, mentally.
Kurt ran a hand through his hair, his tail swaying back and forth behind him.
Why did he think these things of her?
Was it because she was the only woman around?
Was it because she was the only woman outside of his family at the circus that hadn’t screamed and tried to burn him as a demon?
Or was it- could it be that… maybe he had feelings for her?
“What happened the other night?” Logan asked.
“Was?” Kurt asked, startled from his thoughts.
“The other night, when you got stuck in the storm.” Logan’s eyes, dark and hard, had a shrewd intelligence, appraising everything Kurt did or said, and he felt like he was being studied with a magnifying glass.
“What do you mean? The storm came, and the wheel sank in the mud, I thought.”
Logan was silent for a second. “Before you went out to town, you were civil, but not nice. Since you got back, you can’t stop staring. What happened?”
“We were stuck on the road,” Kurt said.
“And?” Logan led. “Did you do anything?”
“We ate a picnic,” Kurt supplied, uncertain of the unspoken question.
“Did you touch her?” He demanded.
Kurt’s eyes widened, and his cheeks heated. But something else happened; he was offended.
Was Logan saying that he wasn’t good enough for her? That he would never be? That his dirty demon like hands would taint her? That because of how he looked, it would be inappropriate, or impossible for her to ever like him?
“Would it be so bad if I did?” He asked darkly.
“I didn’t bring her here for you to use to your whims,” Logan growled as he stood. “I thought better of you than forcing yourself on a woman when you were alone.”
“Forcing?!” Kurt nearly yelped in shock, then what Logan had been asking finally clicked. “There was no forcing of anything! I would never!” Kurt held back a growl. “We had to sleep close to keep warm, and because she was soaked from the rain, but I did not touch her. I would never touch her like that!”
There was a soft noise from the doorway as Beth cleared her throat. “Good to know,” she said quietly, her hand moving to close the door.
Kurt rushed to her, taking her uninjured hand in his. “I would never touch you like that,” he assured her. “You must know that I’d never touch you like that!”
Beth blinked at him.
It was one thing to know he’d probably never want to touch her in any way romantic, another to overhear him telling Logan, but it was completely different to have him declaring over and over to her face that he’d never think of her as attractive and would never want to touch her.
Hurt emotions were filling her, making her face heat again. “Stop!” She told him, pushing back the tears. “Just stop! Do you even know what you’re saying?” She demanded as she jerked her hand from him and fled through the door into the darkness.
She made it to the horse stalls, into the one holding Babylon, wrapping her arms around him and burying her face in his neck as the tears started flowing carelessly down her cheeks.
Kurt looked over at Logan at a loss. “I-”
Logan shook his head, looking away.
“What- what does she think I said?”
“Don’t know.”
“But- I was only saying I’d never hurt her, ja?” He asked.
Logan looked at him, his dark gaze boring into his golden one. “Look, I don’t know what she thought you were saying. But, I can only think of one reason a woman would run off like that.”
“Why?” Kurt asked, desperate to understand.
“She’s had her heart broken.”
“How would me saying I’d never hurt her break her heart- why- I don’t understand-” Kurt shook his head as he looked down.
“Welcome to being a man,” Logan told him.
“Should I go after her?” Kurt asked.
“Nah, let her have her time, she’ll come back when she’s ready.”
.
Kurt laid on the couch, unable to fall asleep.
Logan had gone to bed, and the fire had died, but Beth hadn’t come back, yet.
Maybe he should have gone after her. What if she’d gotten hurt out in the dark? What if the cattle had stampeded over her? What if-
He had to stop thinking these things, it was making his stomach twist uncomfortably, not only with pain, but longing and guilt, and just a hint of uselessness.
The door opened quietly, and Kurt looked up to see Beth closing it quietly.
A smile pushed at his mouth; she was safe. He was about to say something to greet her, when she turned her face away from him and hurried to her room in the back.
Kurt felt hurt, but took a breath.
She was still mad at him.
It was ok; he’d had people, women, mad at him before, but he’d survived.
He paused as he thought that this might be different from his mother or sister being mad at him, but shook it off.

Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) Masterlist
@valkyrieofsmut‘s Kurt Wagner AKA Nightcrawler Masterlist!
Tumblr media
Series
Gargoyle’s Angel  (In Slow Progress)
Angeline has dealt with more than her fair share of pain, then she falls in love with Kurt at first sight, but he’s uninterested in her advances. Five years later, after an incomplete apocalypse, she’s pregnant. Kurt fell in love with Angeline the second he saw her, but was convinced she could never love him. Five years later, she’s having his baby, and he has to convince her to let him be in her and their baby’s lives. Tactic? Refusing to leave.
Starting with an accidental encounter (Complete!)
Kurt is in the middle of an investigation for the X-Men when he's found. He accidentally escapes into Lacy's apartment, and shockingly instead of screaming she pulls him into bed. Now he can't stop thinking about her.
Kurt’s Mail Order Bride (In Progress)
Old westAU In about 1900 Germany, Kurt has heard stories about the wild west and dreamt about being a cowboy for a long time. When he’s brought over to America and sent to live with Logan he’s excited, until he learns what hard work a ranch actually is. Logan knows a woman will set him straight from his shenanigans, and brings one back. Kurt hopes for love, but they can’t seem to get along.
At Your Service, Alpha (In Progress)
Kurt is apartment sitting for his friend and the last thing he expected to find was his one true omega, but there she was. Except she can’t seem to tell they belong together. (Y/n) has dreamed about the day she would meet her one true alpha her whole life. A new, blue, alpha comes to see her every day, and she hates him! Until she starts thinking about him all the time. Her allergies make it so she can’t smell anything, but she knows that her alpha will let her know when he finds her. Won’t he?
One Shots
Only call me Liebling
Amber has had a crush on Kurt for a while, but has never told him. Until one day, she hears him say something hurtful about himself and is determined to set him straight. Then his first kiss turns into his first time.
Massage therapy and forgotten English
Tanner has been watching too many commercials for massage therapy school. Does she want to do it? She doesn’t know, but maybe Kurt can help her figure it out. And maybe she’ll pick up a bit of German at the same time.
A good Master
An excerpt from a BDSM series.
All I want for Christmas part 1 part 2
Kurt has given up the way of the X-Men for the way of the Catholic church. He has spent the last nearly three years training and devoting himself and is nearly finished. He is happy with the way life is, until a woman who isn't a member of the church comes to sing with them for Christmas. She is a human, he is a mutant, she is a member of the choir, he is a priest to be... It's a sin for them to be together, but fate, or God, or maybe Christmas, has different plans.
Kurt for Christmas @devilbat‘s Christmas challenge
(Y/n) asks Kurt to come home to Christmas dinner for her so her parents will leave her alone about not having a boyfriend. A few truths come out, and Kurt is surprised to hear who her family wants to be her boyfriend.
