I decided that I wanted to share a special song this month. I grew up on older country music (obviously lol) and the song Almost Home by Craig Morgan has always been impactful to me, and on bad days has the ability to make me step back and re-evaluate my choices and sometimes I get a good cry in. If you've been following me for any amount of time, you'll also know I really love Jelly Roll--I always seem to relate to his songs. So you can imagine the delight I had a few years ago when I first watched Craig Morgan and Jelly Roll perform the song Almost Home on the Opry stage together. The song Almost Home holds dear memories to Jelly and during a pivotal moment in his life helped him decide that he wanted to make others feel just like he felt in the moment watching Craig perform. Since I've already shared several of Jelly's songs, we know he succeeded with that. Believe it or not, this isn't where it ends though. I have more. Recently, Craig Morgan decided to re-record some of his older songs with other artists and released Almost Home with Jelly Roll. I can't even begin to explain how excited I was when they finally released the audio and it popped into my YouTube recommended. I've been wishing for a studio version of Almost Home with Jelly and Craig together, and I was crying before I clicked the link. I'm always apprehensive about songs recorded with/by other artists, but I knew that this would be beautiful. I think I cried the entire length of the song--it was just so perfect. I now have a new favorite version of that song, and can't get over the beauty. The two of them succeeded in making an already impactful song make me feel things I haven't felt in a very long time. I have ugly cried to it so many times already. Tonight, I'm sharing Almost Home. I'll include the original version just in case somebody isn't interested in the duet. Craig Morgan's new album is called Enlisted in case anybody is interested in listening to the other songs on it, but I would appreciate it if you all would give this particular song a listen. You won't regret it.
Happy Holidays!
See you next year.

Lyrics:
He had plastic bags wrapped 'round his shoes
He was covered with the evening news
Had a pair of old wool socks on his hands
The bank sign was flashing five below
It was freezing rain an' spittin' snow
He was curled up behind some garbage cans
I was afraid that he was dead
I gave him a gentle shake
When he opened up his eyes
I said, "Old man are you ok?"
He said, I just climbed out of a cottonwood tree
I was runnin' from some honey bees
Drip dryin' in the summer breeze
After jumpin' into Calico creek
I was walkin' down an old dirt road
Past a field of hay that had just been mowed
Man I wish you'd just left me alone
'Cause I was almost home
Then he said, I was just comin' round the barn
'Bout the time he grabbed my arm
When I heard momma holler, son hurry up
I was close enough for my own nose
To smell fresh cobbler on the stove
And I saw daddy loadin' up the truck
Cane poles on the tailgate
Bobbers blowin' in the wind
Since July of '55
That's as close as I've been
Yeah, I just climbed out of a cottonwood tree
I was runnin' from some honey bees
Drip dryin' in the summer breeze
After jumpin' into Calico creek
I was walkin' down an old dirt road
Past a field of hay that had just been mowed
Man I wish you'd just left me alone
I was almost home
I said, "Old man you're gonna freeze to death
Let me drive you to a mission"
He said, "Boy if you'd left me alone
Right now I'd be fishin'
I just climbed out of a cottonwood tree
I was runnin' from some honey bees
Drip dryin' in the summer breeze
After jumpin' into Calico creek
I was walkin' down an old dirt road
Past a field of hay that had just been mowed
Man I wish you'd just left me alone
'Cause I was almost home (almost home)
Man I wish you'd just left me alone
I was almost home
" I just climbed out a cottonwood tree, I was running from some honey bees, drip drying in a summer breeze after jumping in the calico creek. Walking down an old dirt road, past a field of hay that's just been mowed. Man I wished you'd just left me alone."
