Craig Obney in Winter
It takes a while to get there and it’s hard not to get blown off the top, but it still feels like a wild and rugged place. It’s nice to have a little solitude. You also get a glimpse of the Cairngorms mountain range in the distance, as this area marks the very beginning of the Scottish Highlands. Winter time makes everything look less vibrant, but here there are still plenty of colours, especially when the sun comes out.

Craig Obney is a Pictish hillfort situated on the border between the Lowlands and the Highlands of Scotland. As it has not been excavated, we do not know the precise time period it was used in. It's a wild and rugged area and the top of Craig Obney is never not windy! In the distance you can see Dunkeld and Birnam, which are on an ancient trading route, one of the oldest routes leading up to the Highlands, winding its way between the hills, now replaced by the A9. So while we were walking up in that area, I decided to give a little 'tour' of the hillfort.
