Kyoho grape syrup, milk, tapioca
*The direct translation of this line is something like "You've got to see more of the true nature (of things), Nick!" in reference to the infamous ladder vs. stepladder debate. However, these are my translations, so I'm putting the localized version of that line, since it also became a meme in English. Nice to know this particular exchange crossed the language barrier!

Thanks for reading all my translations. Seems like there will be a chance to order merch online, so if you wanted it you can try and proxy it! It is blind box, though. I ran through these translations the past hour, so apologies for any mistakes. I'll be uploading more translations of things such as the Capcom cafe collab menu on here, too. There are also a few blurbs for art (such as the Valentine's & White day art) that I've yet to see translated, so I'll post those here too at some point.

sophia do u have any vegetarian/vegan holiday recipes 🤲🏼
I'm so glad you asked, of course I do!
Some of these things are from my cookbooks, so anything with a book emoji will be shown below the read more just to save space
Starting with desserts:
Vegan chocolate pie (Nora Cooks) - my favorite one to make for thanksgiving, my family (all meat eaters) loves it so much that I end up making two every year! It's really important to use the tofu that comes in aseptic packaging (the kind that's shelf stable) because the refrigerated kind WILL taste like tofu and you don't want that lol...works great in an Oreo crust or just as a mousse too!
Chocolate pecan pie (Isa Chandra Moskowitz)
Cranberry Spice Oatmeal Cookies (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) - these have great flavor but I recommend subbing butter for coconut oil so they don't spread super thin
Vegan Coffee Cake (Vegan Richa) - great for breakfasts! You could easily make them into coffee cake muffins too
📚 Pastry Crust (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's The Superfun Times Vegan Holiday Cookbook) - great staple pie crust that gets its flakiness from a mix of olive and coconut oils! I use this for savory stuff like quiches and pot pies too. Highly recommend the cookbook, it covers everything from Valentine's Day to Passover to Halloween!
📚 Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's Isa Does It cookbook)
📚 Chai Spice Snickerdoodles (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's Isa Does It cookbook)
Savory Thanksgiving & Christmas things:
Easy Vegan Gravy (Nora Cooks) - really simple & much better than the store bought stuff
Easy Vegan Quiche (Jessica in the Kitchen) - more for lunch/brunch than anything, but I like to make a couple these around the holidays because they're so easy to customize & put together
Vegan Alfredo Sauce (Purely Kaylie) - you can put this on pasta of course but I like to use this to fold into mashed potatoes or make a gratin with during the holidays!
Green Bean Casserole (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) - made this one year at the request of a family member, it came out great!
📚 Maple-Mustard Brussels Sprouts with Radicchio and Pecans (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's I Can Cook Vegan cookbook)
Creamy Polenta and Mushroom Ragout (Good Food) - just comfort food tbh!
📚 Glazed Tofu Ham (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's The Superfuntimes Vegan Holiday Cookbook) - I swear by this and make several before thanksgiving because I inhale them - imo works better as a filling for sandwiches or on the side for breakfast, but could be used as a main dish as well!
📚 Winter Squash Cups with Wild Rice, Hazelnuts, and Cherries (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's The Superfuntimes Vegan Holiday Cookbook) - made this once and used cranberries instead of cherries!
Some Hanukkah stuff! which I highly recommend trying even if you don't celebrate Hanukkah, my family does a mixed holiday celebration so I keep these in my rotation for those occasions:
Latkes and Vegan Sour Cream (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) - can also dip in applesauce or top with caramelized onions if you prefer sweet!
📚 Raspberry Rugelach (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) - classic, chocolate, and raisin variations from her holiday cookbook
📚 Matzoh Ball Soup (Isa CHandra Moskowitz)
And I have to include a couple heavy hitters, these are for if you're serious about spending a lot of time in the kitchen and maybe want to show off a little lol - well worth the effort, but not for everyone!
Succulent Roast Turky (The Gentle Chef) - I haven't tried a seitan turkey that's come close to being as good as this one. Lots of time & ingredients, but well worth the effort
Anything from Miyoko's Artisan Vegan Cheese cookbook - the best vegan cheese you will ever eat. Requires a couple weeks prep because you have to allow time to ferment the base liquid and culture the cheese - I'm starting mine today! I made a detailed post about my experience trying this out here, and there's images with instructions for making the rejuvelac, cashew base, and a Boursin-style cheese in it as well! Of course if you don't want to do all that you can buy the Miyoko's cheese that's sold in stores, those are great too 😅
Peter Reinhart's Bagels (Smitten Kitchen) - if you suffer from lack of good bagels in your area, this is one way to fix that! Bagels are essential to any holiday celebration in my family so I figured I'd include this lol
Here's the stuff from the cookbooks!
Pastry Crust:
Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies:
Chai Spice Snickerdoodles:
Maple-Mustard Brussels Sprouts with Radicchio and Pecans:
Glazed Tofu Ham:
Winter Squash Cups With Wild Rice, Hazelnuts, and Cherries:
Vegan Sour Cream:
Rugelach (Classic, Chocolate, and Raisin variations highlighted):
Matzoh Ball Soup:

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FOOD (we're at my fiancé's parents for dinner and i love them but.... yuck)
Oh noooooo that's the worst? Like wtf even IS Thanksgiving other than food???? Our menu was kind of ridiculous because I did my first hosting for six (me, my partner, our housemate, my cousin and my parents) so...
TW: Food
Apps:
- Pumpkin hummus
- Cranberry salsa over a log of goat cheese
- Fancy farmer's market salami
Mains:
- Roast turkey slathered in herb butter
- Herbed butternut squash and ricotta stuffed manicotti with a spiced pumpkin sauce
Sides:
- Air fried brussels sprouts in a tahini sauce
- Spicy baked sweet potato cubes
- Cheddar bay biscuits
- Mashed potatoes and two types of gravy (turkey and mushroom because my cousin's vegetarian)
- Vanilla orange cranberry sauce
- Hazelnut, cranberry and apple dressing
Dessert:
- Apple raspberry crisp with a pistachio crumb topping and vanilla ice cream
Plus blackberry apple cider, champagne and several bottles of wine.
Yes, I know we're ridiculous. No, I don't care. I didn't go through intensive ED recovery to not love the hell out of food.

Foods of Thedas: Prepared Ingredients
I separated these from raw ingredients because they either are foods/drinks on their own but are included in recipes, or involve a certain amount of cooking/processing to make them that separates them from those listed in raw ingredients. However, like with raw ingredients, I’ve only included items that are mentioned or shown in game for easy reference. Should you want to find additional and “speculative” ingredients you can visit this post or the master post.

Creme brulee is a ubiquitous dessert found in most restaurants today. It's indulgent, creamy and sweet and always served with a crunchy and crisp layer of caramelized sugar. But over the years some people have become bored of it, calling it "overwrought" and "overrated."
So what contributed to the creme brulee backlash? Well, for one, it's a bit of a cliché by now. Many restaurants have it on their menus, so diners often feel like they're having the same dessert no matter where they go. Also, it can be a bit too sweet for some, or they just don't like the eggy flavor. Plus, it's relatively expensive to make, so restaurants often don't put a lot of care into it. Lastly, certain combinations that often accompany creme brulee, such as orange or raspberry sauce, have turned off some diners.
But there is still much to love about creme brulee. With its creamy, custard texture and caramelized sugar top, it's like a treat from a luxurious pâtisserie. Plus, a variety of flavors can be used to create different variations to keep the dessert fresh and exciting. Spices like cardamom, nutmeg and cinnamon, as well as fruits like cranberry and apples can be incorporated to make a unique version of the classic dessert.
Overall, the disappointment with creme brulee may be due to its widespread availability and lack of variety. But with a few creative variations and quality ingredients, creme brulee can be a delicious end to a memorable meal.

Cranberry sauce whipped cream recipe how to#
Perfect with the Grand Marnier whipped cream! How to Make Your Fool Fancy This Cranberry Orange Jam gets body from shredded apple, and you cannot go wrong with the cran-orange combo. Texture in your fool without really trying! Pomegranate Cranberry Sauce has only four ingredients, and you get some crunch from fresh pom arils stirred in once the sauce is cool. Other festive red flavor options to consider include:Īnd here are some fantastic cranberry sauce recipes to consider: Still, it will be tasty, especially if you add a bit of orange flavoring, in the form of either orange liqueur or a touch of orange oil, to the sauce. I do suggest you use your favorite homemade cranberry sauce recipe since the canned kind tends to be very dark red and isn’t quite as festive-looking when folded together with the whipped cream. See how pretty this fool is? And you really can’t go wrong with the flavor. Top it with a poof of whipped cream and maybe a little bit of crunchy garnish, and you’ve got a gorgeous dessert ready to go.Ĭhain chain chain. If you decide to make a custard-based fool (which is probably more old-fashioned even than the whipped cream version), I wouldn’t let it sit more than a couple of days in the fridge before serving. Nice to have a no-bake dessert option on hand, right? A nice make-ahead during the busy Christmas baking season. If you make your whipped cream-based fool like this one, it will be fine in the fridge for up to 4 days before serving. See? So easy to make and impressive to serve in fancy glasses. If you do need to cook your fruit, call that maybe 20-30 minutes of gentle simmering on the stove while you do other things. If you already have your cooked fruit or jam, it’ll only take a few minutes to whip your cream, either with your stand mixer, hand mixer or even by hand.Ī quick fold, and then portion into serving dishes, and you’re done! If you looked at that recipe and thought, “Never in a million years will I make that,” cranberry fool with Grand Marnier whipped cream is the recipe for you. If you can cook some fruit (or even use a lovely, high-quality jam, either homemade or store-bought), and know how to whip some cream, you are in business.Īs much as I love the no bake orange cranberry cheesecake parfaits I posted awhile ago, I can admit it takes a bit of futzing about, even if you don’t have to bake the cheesecake. Simple, gorgeous, and really, really tasty! Make a fruit fool by folding together your favorite fruit sauce or jam with whipped cream. And know you can make a mean trifle by layering cake with whatever type of fool you care to make. So, while I don’t have any hard evidence, I would bet there is a relationship. It is entirely possible that thrifty British cooks extended the lifespan of dry cake by soaking it in booze and then layering in some fool (custard + cooked fruit, right?) It is one of my favorite desserts in the world. The traditional English trifle we serve in our family is layered sherry-soaked pound cake, raspberry jam, vanilla custard, and topped with whipped cream. Make these and privately congratulate yourself on maximum reward for minimum effort, because how often does that happen in the dessert world? Exactly. Super easy, super delicious and totally worthy of a spot on your Christmas dessert buffet! Please tell me you remember those commercials, yes?Įven though I’ve gussied it up a bit with the Grand Marnier whipped cream, this cranberry fool is even easier to make than Krispie treats because there’s no cooking at all: no melting of marshmallows and butter and what not. Sort of like the fruit and cream based version of the Krispie Treat. I choose to believe that it’s because you can fool your guests into believing it took forever to make this dessert. Nobody knows for sure why a fool is called a fool. You’re done!Īnd you don’t even have to fold completely–in fact, a fool looks more interesting if you leave streaks of white cream (or pale yellow custard) and streaks of fruit. But unlike mixing an egg into a cake mix and calling it cookie dough, this fast and easy dessert is made from all real food.Īll you have to do to make your fool is cook some fruit in a bit of sugar until it gets jammy, let it cool, and then fold it together with either some custard or some whipped cream. 10.4 Recommended Products What is a Fool?Ī fool is an English dessert, and it’s one of the easiest desserts you’ll ever make.

HD'S FESTIVE ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 16: UK CHRISTMAS FOOD TRADITIONS!
Hey everyone! How are you all today? Good I hope!
Today I will be talking about all the different foods that are typically seen and eaten in the UK at Christmas time.
Please note: As different regions of the UK differ some of the items I will be discussing may or may not be eaten in certain parts of the UK. I will mainly be posting about food that is eaten in the area of England which I am from. THE NORTH!
1.) Prawn Cocktail (Eaten as a starter) 🦞🍸
A dish that is served in a cocktail glass, comprised of a bed of Iceberg Lettuce, cooked prawns (shrimps) and topped with a Marie Rose sauce (Marie rose sauce is quite complex - Mayo & ketchup mixed together 🤣) I personally have never tried this as I am very very allergic to seafood so I can't vouch for whether it tastes good or not. I mean it was a very popular 1970's dinner party dish, so make of that what you will!
2.) Sausage rolls
Now, I would really really like to clear the great sausage roll debate. If you mention sausage rolls to any British person they will think you are referring to sausages that are wrapped in pastry. These can be eaten hot or cold. My opinion they taste far superior when they are fresh out of the oven. They are not to be served besides a Christmas dinner! (I mean you could if you wanted to, who am I to say other wise, but if you do this in England be prepared to be judged heavily and tutted at loudly!) The dish that is served with a Christmas dinner is Pigs In Blankets, two entirely different dishes all together!
3.) Pigs In Blankets
Pigs in Blankets are in my humble opinion the BEST part of any Christmas dinner. These are small sausages that are wrapped in streaky bacon. In the UK back bacon is used for breakfasts and sandwiches, whilst streaky bacon is used to wrap around the sausages to form pigs in blankets. THEY ARE DIVINE!
4.) Yorkshire Puddings
Yorkshire puddings are usually served with a traditional Sunday roast, And seeing that a Christmas dinner in the UK is a glorified Sunday roast, Yorkshire puddings also make an appearance here too! Yorkie puds are basically batter cups cooked in oil, they are delicious edible gravy boats.
5.) THE CHRISTMAS DINNER!
My family's Christmas day dinner usually consists of:
Roast turkey or Chicken, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, sage and onion stuffing, pigs in blankets, boiled carrots, broccoli, cauliflower cheese, sprouts, peas, red cabbage, mashed swede, Yorkshire puddings, cranberry sauce, apple sauce, meat based gravy.
6.) Christmas Pudding
A Christmas pudding is the densest material known to man! It's like an alcohol soaked brick of misery! It's a steamed fruit cake made out of suet, dark brown sugar, currants and sultanas, candied peel, sherry and brandy. It's not nice in my opinion! Plus if the actual pudding itself doesn't contain enough alcohol, it's traditional to pour brandy over it and set it alight! YES YOU HEARD ME! IT'S SET ON FIRE! ACTUAL FIRE! I mean if the darn thing has to be incinerated before it's eaten then surely is that a sign that it's not fit for human consumption! Also watch out for the hidden sixpence in some very very traditional puddings!
7.) Mince pies
Another Christmas dessert that deserves a special place in hell. If you like raisins, sultanas and candied peel you will love a mince pie. Mince pies are filled with spiced mixed fruits, suet, and sometimes booze and are served hot with brandy sauce, or cold and eaten in despair. Food of the devil, no place at my dinner table!
8.) Trifle
I love love love love trifle! It's my fave Christmas dessert ever! I know I'm really weird! It's a dessert made out of sponge fingers that are soaked in raspberry/ strawberry jelly and tinned fruit cocktail, then a layer of thick custard, then another layer of whipped cream. Some people like to soak the sponge fingers in sherry before they pour a layer of jelly over them. It sounds vile but trust me, trust me it's beautiful. But please, I beg of you, don't make the mistake that Rachel did in Friends and add a layer of Shepherd's pie meat filling! The horror!
9.) The Christmas Chocolates:
The UK takes Christmas Chocolates SERIOSULY! Here are a few that are really popular, and can usually be bought for a 2 for under £7 deal.
Cadbury Heros: A large plastic purple tub that is filled with miniature versions of Cadbury's Chocolates. Usually the sweets are: Dairy milk, Cadbury Diary Milk Caramel, Twirl, Cadbury Creme egg twisted, Eclair, Wispa, Dinky Decker, Crunchie, Fudge.
Celebrations: A large red plastic tub usually filled with miniature: Maltesers, Galaxy Milk, Galaxy caramel, Mars bar, Snickers, Twix, Milky Way, Bounty
Terry's Chocolate Orange: A chocolate orange flavoured sweet shaped like a whole orange. It has individual segments like a real orange does.
Also in the UK it is typical to see the Cadbury hero tubs & Celebration tubs being turned into storage boxes for first aid supplies or a sewing box after the sweets have been scoffed! Nothing more disappointing than thinking you had a cheeky box of celebrations stored away only to discover it's your Nana's sewing kit!
There we go everyone! A run down of the popular foods eaten in the UK at Christmas!
Would you eat any of these, have you eaten any of these, or are there any that you think sound absolutely horrific?
As always everyone,
Stay safe, have a beautiful day, and Happy Studying! X

This ended up being a very long post and I'm on mobile, so I'll fix the read more in the morning when I get on the computer.
TW: covid, depression, Thanksgiving, a lot of food talk
-----------
Today, we officially called off Thanksgiving with family (it had pretty much been decided but today we called the few people to confirm it).
Some background: my family only started celebrating Thanksgiving because I wanted to. We're Chinese, so growing up, it wasn't a thing for us, plus my mom wasn't fond of turkey.
At the age of 13, I picked up a bread baking recipe book at a Scholastic book drive. Up until that point, I had been baking stuff from box mixes, so making bread from scratch was a huge deal for me. Age 14, I told my parents I wanted to do Thanksgiving the American way. We qualified for a free turkey at our local supermarket anyway, so why not? To make it more palatable, I incorporated Chinese elements into the menu--various Chinese vegetables (choy) instead of green bean casserole, sticky rice (loh mai fan) stuffing--and i would bake fresh bread. There would always be white rice.
I have a huge extended family and on the weekends, my parents would have family and friends over to play mahjong, so Thanksgiving went over great because they loved trying all these new foods, and I loved trying new recipes. We always had a rotation of at least thirty people, so the food went. I think one year, I counted just over fifty people--it was like a revolving door at my parents' house, some people would pop in around lunch time and hang out until they had to go to their own family's Thanksgiving dinners, some came for dinner, and some came for dessert and coffee with a side of mahjong.
As the years went on, my menus got more and more elaborate, and I would enlist my younger siblings (I have three) to be my sous chefs. It was a THING. Thanksgiving was my thing.
The college I went to is very involved with the Macy's Thanksgiving parade balloons, and while it would have been an awesome experience, it required giving up your Wednesday night and most of Thanksgiving Thursday. That was a deal breaker for me. That's how much my Thanksgiving ritual meant to me.
Some of my favorite memories are waiting in line at DiPalo's (before they expanded, back when it was just the corner storefront) with my sister the weekend before Thanksgiving to get fresh mozzarella and ricotta and parmigiano (lasagna was a huge hit with my family). The longest we waited was three hours one year.
Another year, this was after I had graduated and moved out and was working. My work let us out early (around 2pm), but this asshat in another department ensured me that he needed these numbers so he can work over the weekend. I ended up running out to DiPalo's to pick up my order and going back to work, working to 9pm to get those numbers out, before going back to my parents' house to start cooking. The asshat didn't look at them that weekend (we get the Friday off too).
Mind you, it's not that I couldn't get the ingredients in Jersey, I just honestly had no idea where to go. My parents did the bulk of their grocery shopping in Chinatown and DiPalo's was right at the border of Chinatown and Little Italy.
As I said earlier, my menus got more elaborate over the years. Everyone kept eating the loaves of fresh bread for breakfast, so I made Thanksgiving an all day affair, with a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu.
One year, the theme was fried foods (fried turkey legs, homemade mozzarella sticks, etc.). I always tried new recipes on Thanksgiving, because honestly, what I enjoyed most about it was the process, the production of creating something delicious.
My siblings started sending me recipes throughout the year. One year, I made a vegan raspberry cheesecake (the base was cashews and almonds).
My siblings also said that they knew my now husband was a keeper because he had not only survived Thanksgiving at my parents' house, but he rolled with it (I'm pretty sure I put him to work too).
After we got married and bought our house, I claimed Thanksgiving for both sides of the family (there were no objections, because I didn't care about Christmas, so they had Christmas). My husband's family had been getting their Thanksgiving meals catered for a few years at this point, so they didn't mind not cooking.
But including his family meant I had to start making sacrifices to my process. One person only liked Stove Top stuffing (don't get me wrong, Stove Top chicken flavor is amazing, but so is a sausage stuffing from scratch). The year my second child was born, I think I was a bit burned out by everything, so we ended up ordering a whole pig (think spit roast, but Chinese style) and some roast ducks that year. We were told the next year that some people would prefer to have turkey. One year, we decided to smoke our turkey, and the feedback we had gotten was that some people really preferred oven roasted. So the following year, we did turkey three ways (roasted, smoked, and deep fried) and we started getting feedback that we were doing too much variety. This happened with the sides too. Heirloom vegetable recipes (guys, I used to watch the Food Network religiously) were reduced to sauteed green beans or asparagus. We were told to reduce the variety of things, so the only pasta dish that kept making it onto the menu was mac and cheese, because that was someone else's preference. And I couldn't even play around with the mac and cheese, because the family's recipe used Velveeta (yes, I know I sound like a food snob, and it's because I was back then).
But year after year, the creativity of the menu decreased and decreased, to the point where my husband and I felt it wasn't enjoyable anymore.
This morning, after we had called the family (it was really just my and his parents, whom we have been seeing during this whole time because we live close and do shopping for them, etc.), part of me was excited to finally make a menu and my husband and I agreed on a very small menu, because it's just us and our two kids.
And by the time I went to bed, I was excited again for Thanksgiving because we will be cooking things that we want. There are three, possibly four varieties of scones on the breakfast menu right now. I haven't mentioned this yet, but my menus are always too ambitious. I almost never get every single dish on the table, but the important ones get there. The experimental ones get ranked in order of what I want to taste.
After all these years, we have established staples. We always have bacon cheddar scones with breakfast. My sons requested chocolate chip and vanilla, respectively, and I want pumpkin. We'll see how many varieties actually get made. I always make fresh cranberry sauce for the sole reason of baking it into a crumb cake for Friday morning. We also eat the Ocean Spray jellied (with whole berries), and I serve it in slices. My husband is the mashed potato king, so he handles that. The King Arthur masala chai pumpkin pie recipe has been a hit year after year, so that is a staple now. I was excited to be able to cook what we wanted again.
It even inspired a Thanksgiving chapter in the fic I am writing. (I am so, so, so happy and excited for this chapter now.)
But as I was going to bed tonight, I was thinking about those memories at DiPalo's and cooking with my siblings, and pandemic sadness hit me like a ton of bricks. I cried hard. I miss my siblings. I miss the hospitality of it all. Just like my parents' house was a revolving door, when my husband and I took over Thanksgiving, it was an unspoken rule that extended friends and family were welcomed. My siblings' friends from high school and college would stop by. My one sister's friend would even ask to be on the menu distribution list (I usually drafted a menu and my family members would vote on which dishes they wanted, and that was partially how the menu was created) and invite himself over lol.
I miss that company--the people who understood my Thanksgiving--my family. I haven't seen (in person) one sister since January and the other since March. And while we're constantly talking to each other and do the occasional video chat, it's just not the same.
If you read this far, thank you for your time and energy.
I don't have a point to this post, except maybe wear a fucking mask and stay home, so we can eventually beat this pandemic and resume some semblance of pre-covid life.
And I know this post is very much a first world problem. We have enough to eat and a warm roof over our heads. I am very grateful for that. But I am allowed to be sad too. This year would have been my 25th anniversary with Thanksgiving.
Writing all this out really helped though.
