Butch Hartman: Ghosts are actually creatures from another dimension and are not actually the spirts of dead people.
Ember McLain: Has a whole song implied to be about her death and/or the circumstances that led to it.
Sidney Poindexter: Is explicitly mentioned to be a former human student of Casper High prior to him dying.
Desiree: Is shown as a human in the distant past prior to becoming a ghost and is explicitly mentioned to have died in the past.
Cujo: Has an entire episode where a bunch of Axion Labs employees basically just say “Boy it sure is a good thing we put down all those guard dogs” before a ghost dog with a collar explicitly stated to belong to Axion Labs breaks into the building and won’t calm down until it enters a room that belonged to the Axion Guard Dogs and finds a dog toy heavily implied to have belonged to them in life.

cant stop thinking about danny fenton DST mod. sketchdump time
mod concept/rambling under the cut:
Danny Fenton
The Half-Ghost
Favorite food: Veggie Burger (despite the name, this is actually considered a meat item. both sam and tucker would be willing to eat this!)
200 Health | 175 Hunger | 120 Sanity
PERKS:
Is a ghost... sometimes [neutral to ghosts, innate cold resist, human + ghost form]
Human food only feeds half of him [.5x stat gain from food + need for ectoplasm]
Has obsessions to fulfill [increased attack/defense when allies are nearby, decreased stats when no allies, loses sanity/other consequence if allies die]
Has a deadly weakness to electricity [increased damage+sanity loss from lightning, electric damage] ...also damaged by proximity to evil flowers, but this will apply to ALL ghosts, not just danny
ABILITIES:
Transforms into his ghost half by alt-clicking himself.
can fly over/walk through obstacles (ignores collision)
increased damage/defense & increased hunger drain, constant sanity drain
ghost-like sanity drain aura (applies to nearby players except Wendy)
is a "monster" (attacked by pigmen, bunnymen, catcoons, etc)
takes more damage from electricity + evil flowers than his human form. (maybe also increased damage from magic/shadows/planar attacks?)
Cannot talk in ghost form. Uses incomprehensible language instead (either "OooOOOoo" like DST ghosts or made up ghostspeak)
Can shoot ectoblasts by alt-clicking enemies. Costs hunger per use. Usable in both forms, but deals more damage in ghost form.
maybe has a small chance to freeze enemies, with increased chance in winter?
If Danny dies, he leaves his human corpse behind (instead of a skeleton) and is stuck in ghost mode.
Permanently insane, -90% max HP. Corpse needs to be revived with a telltale heart [or some other item] (revives with no health penalty).
If killed again, corpse is replaced with a skeleton and danny becomes a "normal" DST ghost. When reviving using vanilla methods, has a bigger health penalty + sanity loss.
ITEMS/MOBS:
ECTOPLASM. Periodically spawned by ghosts & pipspooks. Chance drop on a ghost's death.
Danny needs to eat ectoplasm regularly or he gradually gets weaker [or some other consequence here].
Can be given to ghosts to make them temporary allies [Danny only]
DOG TOY. Temporarily spawns CUJO.
limited "loyalty" (spawn time) but can be fed ectoplasm to keep him around longer
immortal/can't be killed, loses loyalty instead
can walk on water (ignores collision)
"gets big" whenever danny is attacked. will attack all nearby mobs (even if not aggressive) for a certain amount of time before shrinking again
BLOB GHOSTS. passive mob/won't attack.
either spawn near headstones or around ectoplasm left on the ground
“prey” animals like rabbits (will run away from scary creatures & players, excluding danny/other ghosts)
automatically start following danny whenever he's near + grant him small sanity gain
will periodically spawn ectoplasm on the ground (higher rate than regular ghosts) OR passively restore danny’s ectoplasm meter based on proximity
ectoplasm is guaranteed drop on death (but why would you kill them you monster 🙁🙁🙁🙁)
despawns after a couple days
other potential items/perks:
ectoplasm tracker- points towards ectoplasm/ectoplasm sources on the map. or maybe cujo can track it instead?
fenton thermos- holds ectoplasm and/or ghosts in storage slots?
Other things I'm less certain on:
if ghost form has higher hunger drain, should it also drain the ectoplasm meter faster?
want something to imply that ghosts are emotional creatures/danny's strength is tied to his emotions somehow, but "growing weaker/stronger at low sanity" is an overused perk. maybe he takes increased damage at low sanity?
maybe some other protection based perks idk
maybe his human form should be weaker than average, to encourage gathering/etc in human form, and combat in ghost form?
ok its that it byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Note
wait what is cujo's backstory i wanna be sad
Cujo was a guard dog for Axiom Labs where Valerie's father, Damon, worked as a researcher for security. When Damon created a supposedly-foolproof security system that would keep anything and everything out of the lab, the guard dogs were no longer needed. And instead of adopting them out, it is heavily—read: canon—implied that they put all the dogs down instead.
Cujo was one of those dogs that was put down. The thing that tied him to humanity and didn't let him move on, aka turned him into a ghost, was a squeaky toy that was still in the room in Axiom Labs where the dogs used to sleep.
In his episode, he repeatedly crossed over to break into Axiom—inadvertently showing Damon's security system wasn't as flawless as he'd claimed causing Val's dad to get fired and rehired as a basic security guard—and Danny kept sending him back to the Ghost Zone because he didn't understand why Cujo kept breaking in there. As the episode went on, Danny eventually stumbled on the toy during one of the break-ins, figured it out, and gave Cujo the toy. As soon as the toy was returned, Cujo turned from a giant hulking beast to a little puppy and **happily pranced his way back to the Ghost Zone to live out his afterlife.
**Edit: Sorry, he actually was shown in the episode to dissipate, implying he'd "moved on." But they brought him back in later episodes because people liked the cute dog.

Crossover Idea 4
What if,  Danny Phantom, but with pokemon. (Feel free to give your own ideas for it too)
Danny:
Phantump (I mean this pokemon’s dex entry claims it’s a dead kid that got lost in the woods and possessed a tree stump, wouldn’t be surprised if he got it during or right after the portal incident)
Greavard (Ghost puppy? Cujo with a friend? Undead nightlight of a good boy who looks like it’d give good snuggles? Yes please)
Articuno (I mean, the yetis refer to him as lord, he’s an ice boi, and he did defeat an undead king, so he can have a legendary, as a treat)
Dani:
Ditto (You can literally only find ditto, at least in the first games, in the old manor where they were doing cloning experiments, and it’s implied they were one such attempt, so fitting. Also, goo buddies)
Sligoo (A fellow acid goo friend who can travel with her! )
Dan:
Gengar (I mean, mischievous ghost pokemon that can supposedly slip through shadows and potentially dimensions?)
Spiritomb (I mean, 1, ghost portal lookin thing, 2, it got bound to a keystone to stop it from causing mischief or destruction, not unlike someone being stuck in a thermos for a long time)
Deoxys (A space virus gaining sapience that may or may not have attempted to destroy a world? His now. )
Jazz:
Ralts (Let’s be honest, the emotion sensing psychic pokemon would definitely be one she got early on while taking care of her brother)
Nidoqueen (Let’s be honest, she’d hit something with the creep stick and it would follow up with a tail slam or thunder punch)
Sam:
Ivysaur (Now chances are she started with a bulbasaur and it has evolved of course, but Ivysaur looks so angry, but is also probably ‘flowery/suitable’ enough for her parents to give her one)
Cursola (A dead coral pokemon? You can’t tell me she wouldn’t take such a thing in and hiss about the damages being done to the ocean)
Furret (I just like the idea of her having a furret that likes to curl around her neck like a scarf during galas or whatever else her parents drag her to)
Tucker:
  Zeraora
(Let’s be honest, he took one look at this pokemon and gave it its own beanie so they were matching)
Gible (This is his meat-eating buddy, they like to eat burgers together lol)
Yamask (If it’s face is what’s on the mask, is this part of the manifestation of Tucker’s previous pharoah life?)
Xatu (Let’s be honest, this was a gift from ghost Egypt and he’s showing it all the different games he has)
Valerie:
Snubbull (With her dad being a guard, she probably grew up with a lil guard dog sort of pokemon)
Excadrill (I’d like to think she got it around the time she took up being the Red Huntress. I mean have you seen this pokemon lol?)
Scizor (It would fit with her Red Huntress getup so well, I couldn’t not give her one)
Vlad:
Golbat (I just like the idea of him already having a ‘vampire’ pokemon before he became a halfa and it being something he latched onto because it was the one thing that stayed with him through the years)
Typhlosion (He probably has a shiny (or ecto-contaminated one) and they have matching fire ‘hair’ when he’s in ghost form lol)
Hypno (I mean, with all the overshadowing he does, would anyone be surprised if he had this or a drowzee)
Glameow (Let’s be honest, this is Maddie the cat lol. Plus in the show she went from very slim to fluffier looking which means she could evolve to)
Jack:
Heracross (Look at that derpy face, head empty, no thoughts, big ol softy who's probably walked through a wall before)
Tyrannitar (Big scary looking pokemon that’s actually a big softy and is definitely very gentle with baby Jazz & Danny)
Maddie:
Vikavolt (This beam-firing metal looking bug would definitely help her with ghost hunting)
Zangoose (I mean just look at it, this fits her so much and is probably constantly bristling whenever a ghost appears)
Wes:
Skwovet (Ratatoskr was a mythological squirrel that ran messages across Yggdrasil, and I just think it’d be fun for conspiracy boi to have something similar)
Oricorio (Honestly probably has a pom-pom one that tries to play basketball too but has a bit of trouble doing so)
Dash:
Croconaw (This bitey pokemon definitely terrorizes the school and gives bites as greeting)
Pignite (Big sporty boi fits with a pokemon whose literally flexing in the official art and will eventually become even bulkier boi)
Paulina:
  Swellow
(I just think it looks nice and fits her vibes. I mean, look at the official art lol)

My Headcannon about cores and animal-like ghost/non-human ghost in Danny phantom
So… before I forget it, I gotta write it down like… right now takes deep breath Hear me out As some may know, I absolutely hate with passion the B*tch Hateman take on ghost as "creatures of another dimension" because the same show showed the deaths of some characters like… PoinDexter- incident with bullying/suffocated to death in his own locker that now he hunts Cujo- When Axion labs no longer needed dogs to protect the place, they put down all the dogs, Cujo comes back from death looking for his chewing toy Desiree- heart broken after being exiled by the sultan who was her true love, being taken away from her greatest wishes she now grants everyone their most wanted wishes under a great prize Ember- the series didn´t openly said it but the lyrics of her song say she may have died in a fire after his boyfriend left her and she was chasing her dream of being a great artist so he and everyone can "remember her name", after her death with that mentality her only goal was to have world wide fame that would now give her power The problem comes when Butch tried to modify this in season 3 with him adding elementary powers and more monster-like ghost for him to say "monsters from another dimension"
But!!!, the fandom saves the day with the idea of… cores!! and ghost being all able to shapeshift
For anyone new around here basically cores are the main part of a ghost/soul inside of their chest that can have an elementary power besed of their personality/their death. So far I´ve seen Danny- ice core (because of his chill/brave/risk taking attitude) Danny- lighting core (because of his "death") Vlad- fire core/lighting core (because of his agressive/passionate nature and… yeah his "death")
So far it has been told only ghost with great power can have an elementary core, so it leaves with the question: why do not only halfas have this and we get ghost like Nocturne, Vortex, Undergrowth, The far Frozen and they absolutely look not human if I´m going with the "all ghost are death people"? My headcanon for this is… They used to be human beings but training their power over an element has modified their apearence to adapt to that element! Maybe this can even justify ghost puberty (another headcanon as an excuse for Danny getting fangs or why the hell Vlad looks like a freaking vampire) it would be their cores getting too powerful it starts to modify their body in two ways: Based on obssesion- it would make them look more like something related to their obssesion, like… I like to think for example we got: Vlad- his obssesion being his love for Maddie it would be interpreted as an unhealthy love because he wants to have her more as a trophy, why?, well in the series it has been seen he doesn´t care if she gets hurt by his actions like killing Jack (that would hur her really bad because they have shown to love each other), kidnaping/killing her children (with Jazz in Secret weapons, he was perfectly fine with the chance of having her to fight Danny but when she turned around he was willing to kill her with the nanobots, with Danny… the many times he has tried to kill him to "join" him), he only wants to have her, so I think his core interpretated it as him getting a prey to suck the life out of here more than a partner, so his ghost half would be a vampire.Based on training- this one is the one I mostly came up to, it would imply the ghost not getting focused on their original obsession but instead trying to improve their power they got, especally if they focus on their core, my headcanons with this one are: Undergrowth- He maybe once was an activist trying to protect nature, getting killed by a great coorporation in the process (maybe thats why he instantly took Sam as an apprendice/queen) when he died he at first didn´t wanted revenge because he died in a good cause, that´s when he noticed because for his love of nature he had got the power to make flowers and all kind of plant grow, happy of getting paradise in his own way he would turn his liar into a giant garden, gradually getting better at it with training until his liar turned into a jungle with even sentient plants that behaved like animals (as we saw in urban jungle) finally changing his body showing how he got total control of this power, but maybe getting too focused on his power and looking anyone in te ghost zone had an obsession similar to his, alone and finally thinking his liar was not enough he tries now to overtake other liars for his plants (his children), maybe having a fight with the far Frozen territory (maybe that´s why Frostbite knows about him), even trying his original obssesion protect plants and nature in earth (urban jungle). The far Frozen- unlike Undergrowth who would be like the only one of his kind, Ice cores would be quite common to get because of different reasons leading to… when a ghost with ice core is willing to train it´s power they would either… die (destabilize) from hypothermia (like how Danny almost did) or completly master it, leading to… their bodies would change into the appearence of the far Frozen (maybe that´s also why Frostbite says Danny is more similar to them than from what he thinks) and so, the ghost with trained ice cores can try and go to the Far Frozen territory to ask for guidence or join them (I totally think Danny would go through this if he decides to regularly train his powers as he did through the entire series)

Maple Hill
Summary: Danny’s well versed in being invisible, ignored, stepped over in a crowd. Now though, he would take the first step in getting lost.
warning: implied/referenced self-harm, suicidal thoughts
Ao3 Link
“Don’t listen to those people out there, honey. They’re trying to steer you from the right path.”
Kitty had sent him a sad smile before giving him a large hug and floating away, hand in hand with Johnny who was resolutely trying to avoid all eye contact. Shadow was curled around his shoulders like a scarf and not so discreetly trying to wipe at Johnny’s face.
“We’re all useless without our anti-ghost weaponry keeping us safe and nothing else matters more than keeping them in tip top shape.”
Cujo had whined in his arms and he had scratched lightly behind his ears, letting his core hum while pressing the dog closer to his chest. Though he had tried to send him off, Cujo stubbornly stayed close to him.
“You don’t want to be killed by a ghost do you?”
Youngblood had sniffled loudly as he clutched a small model rocket in his hands, still hovering close by. He was ushered away with a harmless blast and a quip. The young ghost had sobbed around a goodbye and disappeared through the wall, the light reflecting on his new astronaut helmet as he left.
“They’re getting sneakier everyday, Danny, so just keep this on you alright?”
Danny shivered. The echoes of denial still rang in his ears, as if the walls of his home—
Fentonworks.
As if the walls of Fentonworks stretched to follow behind him on his long journey.
“Where did my baby boy go?”
Danny felt his heart start to race.
“The one who was excited for all our new inventions, that baby boy. I wish I could have him back.”
“All passengers waiting for the 3:15, Illinois North train, please make your way to track 6.”
He tugged the straps of his bag painfully tight across his shoulders and breathed deeply, silently mouthing his thanks to the automated announcement.
“We’re just looking out for you, dear. We want you to be safe.”
The can of anti-ghost mace they sprayed on him when he came home from a brutal patrol said otherwise. Not that they knew about patrol, but… he’d learned to accept that wasn’t the problem.
“I’m disappointed in you, Danny.”
The tone and voice and words sent a pang of melancholy through him. Not for the first time he wished they were strangers. At least they had the decency to try being polite and accepting of people they’d never met before.
And his mind wondered, lingered, treaded deeper into that place he knew it shouldn’t go.
“I’m disappointed in you, Danny.”
He gave up the fight with non-committal hums and placating words. He ignored the thoughts of friends and family showing up any moment, disgust for him clear on his face, and ready to renounce their love.
He didn’t sleep that night. Or the next.
“I’m disappointed in you, Danny.”
The scissors had been dull, just like the other times he’d checked. It was more out of a curious thought than anything. A small one. Not enough to care to find something sharper.
“I’m disappointed in you, Danny.”
He tried something small, right on his hip. The metal was dulled from years of use. His skin was tough, thick.
It was a fruitless endeavour.
“I’m disappointed in you, Danny.”
For a moment, he hoped for the bravery to simply end all of this. Tried to imagine the reactions from those people. It may be exaggerated, but the conclusion was the same: those people would be better off if he were gone, if he were never here in the first place.
But it only lasted a moment.
A flash of familiar faces raced through his head. His lip wobbled as he imagined causing them such irreversible pain. And despite that small moment of yearning with whispered promises of a swift end, the thought of never getting to see them—to simply be with them again—was too much to bear. He couldn’t do that to his sister, his friends—his true family.
And he was far far too accustomed to their love to ever do that to himself.
“I’m disappointed in you,”
A plan was made. A destination set. A quiet promise to head out right after they walked across the stage. He’d never forgive himself if they gave up a diploma for him.
“I’m disappointed—”
It took time—saving the funds, mapping out nondescript locations and shelters, creating a false route that would place an average person two towns south of Amity—but the different parts were already starting to piece themselves together into a clear view of the goal.
“I’m—”
Thus he was here. Packed, ready to disappear. With a tired but content smile, he shuffled to the conductor, careful not to jostle the furry bundle in his sweater that was chewing lightly at his hoodie strings.
Ticket scanned and bag stowed away at his feet, he leisurely settled in his seat and tugged his headphones over his ears.
“I—”
“Final call for boarding the 3:15, Illinois North train. Final call.”
A quiet ding. A slow moving cabin. The scenery quickly started to speed past the windows.
The welcome sign was a speck in the distance. The humans on the train wouldn’t even notice it.
A brief mourning overwhelmed him. Filled his lungs and throat and mouth until he thought it would spill from his body and drown the dog in his arms once it was done with him.
A wet, insistent tongue licked his cheek. He blinked. Reached down to pull the little bundle of love through the fabric and into his lap. His hands automatically sought out furry ears to scratch. Small paws jumped on his chest, tugging at the hoodie strings again and he sighed, a small smile on his face.
The announcement called the name of the next stop, due in three hours.
Danny leaned back in his seat, watched the view passing by, and breathed.

A Secret Dog With A Secret - Phic Phight
Prompt Creators: @purpleillusn @trainernick
Prompts: (1) Jack Fenton thought that all ghosts were evil, until he met a certain ghost dog. (2) Danny gets a dog - Danny decides he finally has time for a pet, but it has to be Cujo for reasons (he's a ghost dog)
Summary: Danny’s got a dog and Jack isn’t quite sure what to think yet
Warning: Implied ghost animal torture
“Uh Danny-boy? I’m pretty sure that dog is not normal”
“Hmm?”, Danny doesn’t even look up as he scratches at the green puppy ears. Besides, he knows full well what Cujo is; he just doesn’t care. Hell, if anything a ghost dog would fair better in this household than a regular one.
Jack himself is finding it hard to just tell his son that this dog is clearly either heavily contaminated or a flat out ghost. Jack bends down and tilts his head at the tiny green puppy sitting on the floor. The puppy bends his head back and promptly falls on his back, barking once with a goofy grin. “Ok, I’ll admit he’s cute. But son, his drool is glowing”, Jack watches a bit confused as Danny simply shrugs. Clearly not caring at all. Jack looks back down at the puppy and spots the collar, “Cujo eh? Named him already did you?”.
Danny laughs lightly, trying to not let his nerves show. After all, he’s doing this both for Cujo and to maybe make his family change some of their opinions. “Naw dad, he came with it. Already trained too, so he won’t pee on the carpet or anything”.
Jack can’t help but find that suspicious but decides that he’ll just have to trust his son, if he ever wants Danny to open up to his family ever again. It hurts seeing how closed off Danny’s become and maybe, just maybe, this will change that. Sighing but putting on a smile, “well I’m still testing his drool”.
Danny watches but lets his dad spoon some of the drool off the floor into a vial, Danny knows full well it’ll come back full ghost but hopefully, by the time the results come in, his dad will have warmed up enough to not care. “I wouldn’t expect any different dad. Got any balls?”
Jack chuckles as he tosses some out of the freezer, “one great thing about freezers, son. They kill practically all germs, even most ecto ones!”. Jack watches his son as he tosses the ball, not too far though, and Cujo runs off to get it; before he heads down to the lab.
Danny smiles at Cujo, “well here’s hoping he doesn’t see big boy Cujo for a while. Pretty easy to think you’re harmless like this”. Cujo jumps up and starts licking Danny, smearing green drool all over his face. “God, ew, stop that you fiend”, Danny’s laughter doesn’t discourage Cujo at all though.
Down in the lab, Jack sits and contemplates while watching the sample spin, “I will be amazed if that dog isn’t a ghost but he’s just a dog right? An evil dog but tiny, very tiny”. With a nod, Jack decides that he can easily handle something that is barely a sixth his sons size. Shaking his head as he heads back upstairs, muttering to himself, “of all the times for only half the Fenton family to be on vacation”.
Danny’s watching Cujo jump from one chair to the next, it’s clear to Jack that the dog is defying gravity slightly. But he does find it odd that the dog doesn’t seem to be floating around.
Grabbing some of his fudge and sitting down he becomes almost giddy as Cujo happy runs off with a piece, “Oh! He likes fudge! Well then he’s must be a Fenton!”. Danny has to restrain himself to keep himself from looking utterly stunned. Muttering into his hand while his dad throws another piece at Cujo, which Cujo is all too happy to eat, “seriously? You just accept a ghost? Because of fudge? Really? I, just. Wow”. Shaking his head he decides that he’ll have to eat a piece of fudge next time his dad’s after him and see how he reacts. To Phantom, eating fudge. Muttering into his hand again, “if all it takes is fudge, to get them to call a truce. I will die just a little more inside”.
Jack is perfectly content to sit outside and watch Cujo run around if it means getting to spend some genuine time with his son. No him running off to who knows where, no locking himself in his room or the bathroom for hours on end, and no staying over at his friends instead of home. Jack isn’t as much a fool as people like to think and he’s terrified that as soon as his son hits eighteen next month, he’ll walk out the front door and be gone for good. Danny, meanwhile, has been terrified for years that one day he’ll have to do just that. But he’s not thinking about that right now, as he watches Cujo futilely bark and jumps at a squirrel.
Catching Cujo’s glow starts to wiggle and knowing full well that’s his transformation queue, Danny whistles at him. Jack looks impressed as Cujo zips right over to Danny and barks. “Wow, son. You weren’t kidding, he really is trained and well too”. Snickering, Jack tells Cujo to roll over and run around. Cujo happily does so, earning the reward of eating the rest of Jack’s fudgesicle.
Danny’s feeling pretty good about all of this as he spots Cujo actually sleeping on Jack while he’s knitting. Danny leans over the couch, arms on the back of the couch, “well someone looks pretty comfy”. Jack chuckles and pats for his son to sit, exceptionally happy that he actually does.
Jack can’t help but look his son over, being reminded of his sons height as he sits, “you sure have grown a lot son, I’m glad to see at least one of you got my impressive height!”. Danny personally isn’t sure if he’s glad or not, he looks way too much like Dan. Though his height and muscular build is well earned, so there is some pride there, and he finds he can’t help a joke, “well I guess it was inevitable that one of us would!”.
Jack has no clue why that’s funny to his son but he’s happy to just see him laughing. He doesn’t do that as often as Jack would like, especially for once being so carefree and full of laughs.
Jack looks over his shoulder as he hears the beeping from the lab, signifying that the sample is done. Looking back to the little puppy, he doesn’t really want to move the little guy but at the same time. Danny runs a hand through his hair, “so you want me to take him?”, he really hopes his dad says no.
Thankfully to Danny, Jack shakes his head, “the results will be there later. It’s not like he’s going to cause issues sleeping, ghost or not”. Jack decides he made the right choice as soon as Danny smiles, it’s clear as day it’s a real one too. Not one of his far too many fakes.
Jack can’t help but laugh to himself when Danny actually falls asleep on the couch, “you really are always tired and I really don’t know why. But get a good rest son, even if that looks uncomfortable”. Jack laughs a bit more as he really takes in Danny’s position, one leg curled up on the couch with the other almost stiffly sticking out, chest turned in the opposite direction, and one arm laying right across his nose. Even so relaxed Jack can still easily make out his sons defined muscles, which he still has no clue how he got. “I wonder if I ate less fudge...naw not worth it”, Jack winces then, as Danny kicks him in his sleep. Rubbing his, definitely going to have a welt, hip, “jeez those muscles are clearly not for show. Impressive, though currently painful”. The movement also seems to have woken Cujo, who stretches out lazily.
Jack blinks down at the puppy, having not actually been around him more or less alone before. Cujo tilts his head making Jack shrug and go to scratch his chin. Cujo seems to be enjoying himself though it becomes pretty clear to Jack that he prefers Danny. Watching as Cujo starts bitting on his sons toes, “you are clearly a puppy, a trained puppy, but still a puppy”.
Danny wakes up after a couple of seconds and flicks Cujo into the air with his toes. Snickering a bit as Cujo lands on his chest, “my feet aren’t chew toys, buddy”.
“He disagrees I’d say!”, Danny moves his arm off his face at hearing his dad’s laugh. Jack pats Danny’s leg as he gets up. Danny asks, “going to check the results now I’m guessing?”.
“Of course Danny-boy! Pretty well already sure about the results though!”, Jack shakes his head as he walks into the lab and sees the sample results. Completely unfazed that it confirms Cujo’s a ghost, “something tells me this won’t even matter to Danny. But it does matter”. Jack mentally debates for a while before heading up, while he’s no fool he’s also not the best at thinking on the spot. So he decides what he’s going to say well before actually doing it, when it’s something he cares about. And at this point anything that gets his son to hang out with him for nearly a full day is something he cares about.
Cujo’s chewing on a little pink bear toy as Jack comes back up. Flashing the clearly positive results at Danny before sitting down. Jack isn’t really surprised that Danny isn’t surprised at all, as he watches his son shrug. “You already knew before you brought him home didn’t you?”.
“Yeah, he's actually been in my room for a few days now. Healing”, Danny still really wants to give those asshole GIW a piece of his mind after the shit they did.
Jack sighs, partly because he had no clue and because he doesn’t like the way his son said healed, “I’m guessing you want to keep him at this point then. And healing from what? Is he a new ghost or something?”. Jack can’t help but wonder if maybe new ghosts could be influenced to be good, he knows his sons heart is practically made of gold so  in theory...
Danny decides for honesty, because really Cujo’s been his from the start even if he always denied it, “yeah, I’d like him to officially be mine. He practically adopted me years ago and he was new back then. His ectoplasm was all messed up, he was practically a puddle when I found him. Or more so he found me”.
Jack can tell there’s some anger in his sons' words and it’s officially clear to him that his son is attached to this particular ghost. Looking at Cujo happily gnawing on Danny’s fingers he can’t help but see why. The little guys not so bad, and dare he think it, not remotely evil. “Well you clearly care son and he’s hardly been even a little bad so I guess it’s ok. How’d he adopt you though?”
Danny laughs animatedly remembering how ridiculous those few days had been, “he just walked up to me in a parking lot and dragged me off to help him find his chew toy. After that he’d just show up to play, sometimes I think he thinks I’m a chew toy”.
Jack notes that Danny’s glare at Cujo, who’s chewing on his arm, looks more amused than annoyed, “he must have blunt teeth for that not to hurt. That’s an incredibly odd thing for a ghost to just do. But he is a dog and that’s very dog”. Jack knows there’s more to the story but he knows there’s no point in pushing it. His son will only tell him what he wants to, no matter how much Jack pushes him. Even if he did push, he knows all he’d get is lies and Danny would walk away from the conversation.
“Dogs gonna do what a dog’s gonna do I guess”, Danny tactfully avoids the pain question because it absolutely does hurt but he doesn’t even notice it because, compared to everything else, it was so minimal. Danny looks towards his dad, sometimes he still finds it weird that he actually has to look down a little instead of up at him, “so you’re going to be cool with ghost doggy here? Like, you’re really ok with this?”.
Jack looks at Cujo and thinks on his words, officially deciding that at the very least animal ghosts weren’t pure evil, “yes, son. It’s weird but you’ve got a good head on your shoulders and you’re a Fenton! Every Fenton hs a good ghost sense about them”, Jack has no clue why this makes Danny burst out laughing and laughing hard.
Once Danny’s calmed a little, “true there. Cujo is a good boy, hmm, yes you are”. Jack watches as Danny scratches at Cujo’s chin who promptly licks his face. “Just no invisible poop, ok?”.
Now it’s Jack’s turn to laugh, “now there’s an issue I didn’t even think of! There’s a story there!”. Danny nods and grimaces, “stepping in it”. Making Jack laugh more, eventually, Danny joins him in doing so.
Danny stops laughing groans a little at spotting Cujo’s rapidly wagging tail as he jumps down and bites Danny’s ankle. “This is what I mean boy, by you thinking I’m a toy”, thinking quick Danny extends his intangibility to Cujo knowing damn well the pup might not do it himself, as Cujo drags him off the couch and starts running around. Dragging Danny behind him and startling Jack.
“Er, son is this ok?”
“Yup! When I said he dragged me off I meant that literally!”
Jack can’t help but laugh into his hand even if this clear show of strength, there’s no way his son is light, is a bit concerning.
Danny eventually pops his head, with now messy hair, over the top of the couch. “He’s got a fair bit of energy now and I’m fine”, Jack can’t help but snort as Cujo teleports right above Danny’s head and lays in Danny’s hair.
“I think that’s obvious son. But at least his antics are only freaky not harmful”.
Danny decides it’s probably best to bite the bullet at this point, it’s probably not best to spring Cujo’s-also-a-ten-foot-monster-dog out of nowhere. Plus his dad clearly can tolerate the dragging Danny around craziness. “Uh yeah about that, Cujo’s size is very deceptive. Deceptive both literally and figuratively. Let’s go outside and he’ll run around some. Burn off some energy”. Danny can tell his dad’s a bit confused but nods anyway.
Cujo instantly starts bolting around the yard as father and son sit on the steps. Danny chuckles as Cujo, once again, notices the squirrel, “that poor squirrel. He’s really going to wish he picked any other yard to live in”.
“All that yapping might just make him leave!”
“Well once Cujo actually starts barking he just might”, shuffling a bit, “anyways you see how his glow is stronger and wiggling?”. Jack tilts his head and realises that his son is right, “huh? What’s he doing?”
Danny shrugs, “easier to just watch though try not to be too startled”. Jack’s a bit concerned now and then very concerned when the tiny puppy is suddenly a big angry looking tower of green fur. Both of them watch as the squirrel bolts out of the tree and flees.
Danny, picking up that Cujo will definitely chase it and that’s definitely not a good idea to let him do, “Cujo stay”. Cujo stops in his tracks and turns his massive head back to Danny, rolling his tongue out in the process. Danny can’t help but smile and rolls his eyes. Flicking his fingers, he lets Cujo know it’s cool to run over to him. Which Cujo promptly does, licking Danny from toe to head.
Jack’s still a bit in shock as Danny grabs Cujo’s collar and yanks himself up, throwing an arm over Cujo neck and hanging off the side of his big ass dog. “Same dog just, uh, bigger”
Danny watch’s, hiding his nerves, as Jack slowly gets up. Jack holds out his hand and watches as the massive dog licks him and wags his tail, “I’m really glad you didn’t introduce me to him like this, but he really is the same dog”. Jack shakes his head but smiles as he takes in exactly how Danny is just hanging off the side of Cujo, “if he’s letting you do that, then he’s got to be ok”.
Danny smiles warmly and turns his head to Cujo, “down down”. Heeding the command Cujo promptly shrinks down.
“Oh wow! You even have that trained! You could ride him into a fight like a horse!”
Danny can’t help but laugh, since he’s literally done that before, “yeah I probably could”.
Jack throws caution to the wind and rubs Cujo’s head a bunch as he hops into Danny’s lap. Judging by the way Cujo’s purple tongue hangs out, everyone’s gonna be just fine.
End.

Can you please talk more about your very cool valerie and cujo concept ? Because honestly that's such a big brain take. I almost always see danny having cujo as a companion but never valerie. Is she going to ride cujo into battles instead of using the hoverboard ?
OKAY SO
in the reboot valerie has actually been fighting ghosts for a WHILE now. actually the audience finds out at the same time danny finds out-- when hes miles high in the sky going after a ghost and this RANDO comes outta nowhere. hold on i have some super rough sketches i did the other day for these bits
Tumblr media
the "red huntress" is, according to her, Amity Parks *ONLY* ghost-busting superhero, and amity doesn't need another one;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
at school of course danny is complaining about this rando getting on his case (he has no idea who she is) and hes rambling and yelling like "who does she think she IS??? i'm the SUPERHERO AROUND HERE" and sam just blankfacedly goes "dude, shes been superheroing for longer than you." tucker/sam pull up an article on valerie and her stunts from a while ago (altho shes of course just a "mysterious figure" and is more often than not cited as a cryptid, because at this point in the story ghosts are still largely a superstition in amity park) (to elaborate a little, my amity park isnt haunted primarily because of the fenton portal, but it just happens to be a ghost hotspot; val has been fending off ghosts for a couple years now)
Tumblr media
at the same time theres also parallels between val/danny regarding the superheroing thing, eg val's dad would think its a waste of her time or too dangerous, etc. the above panel isnt like a final concept but i think it would be rly neat/funny if val also had a friend or two who was the sam/tucker to her secret identity (cant have it be paulina or dash tho bc reasons)
Tumblr media
val brings cujo with her everywhere and he just sits in her backpack and he looks. real dumb. and causes so many problems.
Tumblr media
danny is never gonna figure out her secret identity btw and she’ll never figure out his i just like it more that way (well except for the big plot twist/finale-ish episode but thats besides the point)
ANYWAY backstory ive rambled long enough as is dancing around the point UHHHHHHHHHHHH
cujo is valerie’s dog. also a halfa
Tumblr media
(old art, no longer final)
val has had cujo since before he was a ghost he is just a very excitable lil pubby and she loves him very much
BASICALLY wulf (who is more of a typical wolf/dog and way more malicious) opened up a portal directly ON cujo a couple years ago as an attack
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(last one is old art)
but because of how danny phantom rules are, this turned cujo into a halfa instead of outright killing him. this whole Incident(TM) of course gave val an anti-ghost vendetta in 0 seconds flat and now shes got it out for every ghost in amity, wulf especially. after getting over the terror that is your puppy now being able to shapeshift into a MASSIVE GLOWING GREEN DOG, she learned how to train cujo to use his ghostly abilities to their advantage so they can protect amity park better! in ‘normal form’ cujo still looks like a completely average dog (and has more difficulty flying etc without specific commands) so its not really suspicious
valerie hand-made everything else she uses to fight ghosts, including the costume and whatever weapons she has (I still haven’t decided on a signature weapon)-- no hoverboard at all (yet. seasons progress), instead, yes, she rides Cujo into battle! with a few whistles/commands she can have him fly, turn intangible, etc, helping them stay in pursuit of anything that dares attack amity park
i really wanted to keep cujo tied with valerie bc it felt weird to me that he was only used in getting val her powers and then just. didnt come up again (i know the afterlife “moving on” bit was implied but. youd think val would at least adopt a dog later or something). and i also really wanted to cut out vlad giving val her stuff and instead give her her own agency- she is a black belt, after all. so this is the final concept, and man am i pleased w it :)
she still hates danny and they end up being like absolute rivals and she doesnt trust a ghost as far as she can throw it but it becomes more of a bickering-over-how-to-save-the-day one than her directly trying to kill him (until he fucks up, majorly, and even then danny also gets on HER nerves intentionally because, hello, he’s the GHOST EXPERT here). and of course of course the ending of the red huntress DEBUT episode is 100% them having to set aside their differences and work together to defeat Wulf and his owner

Ghosts that were friendly to Danny Part 1
The Diary king
Tumblr media
First introduced in the episode "Bitter Reunions" The Diary King was one of the first ghosts to actually help Danny instead of hurting him.
When he first appeared, Danny thought The Dairy King was going to attack him like the rest of the ghosts he had fought until now. It turns out that he "just wantrd to rest" and freed the young halfa from his anti-ghost prision.
It's unclear what motivated him to help Danny but is likely he didn't want Vlad to disturb him with his party or he heard everything that Vlad was going to do to Jack and decided to lend Danny a hand with escaping.
He later explained to Danny that "not all ghosts are evil and some just want to be left in peace".
The Dairy King barely made appearences in later episodes. The reason for this was never explained, though, it is possible he left Vlad's castle after it exploded in the episode "A million Dollar Ghost".
Cujo:The ghost dog
Tumblr media
Cujo made his debut in the episode "Shades of Gray". When he first met Danny, he showed to be really friendly with him, he let Danny carry him and he licked him in a playful manner.
Tumblr media
Unlike other ghosts he didn't tried hurting him on purpose. He was protective of Danny and let him trained him for a while.
The difference was that he was searching for a toy that was inside the Axiom Labs, in a room where all the guards dogs were kept in cages.
It's heavily implied in the episode that Cujo was one of the guards dogs that was euthanized since he knew where his toy was as well as having the ability to transform in a very powerful ghost dog when he is threatened.
Tumblr media
He accidentally made Valerie's dad lose his job at the Axiom Labs and ruined Valerie's life while he was playing with Danny and asking to help him.
In his giant ghost form, he is a very dangerous and formidable foe. He is capable of attacking anyone who he considers his enemy and won't stop until he is calmed down by someone he trusts.
Cujo made some cameos in later episodes but he didn't had a major role again.
Wulf
Tumblr media
Wulf's debut was in the episode "Public enemies". He was sent by Walker to capture Danny Phanton in exchange for his freedom.
In the episode he tries to fight Danny a few times, that's until Danny realizes that Wulf is being forced to this job by Skulker's goons. He defends Wulf and helps him with hiding from his enemies temporarily.
Tumblr media
Despite his scary appearance, Wulf is a very friendly ghost and would do everything he can to protect his friends. He showed to be very loyal as he sacrificed his own freedom to assist Danny in battle and sent Walker back to the ghost zone.
Aside from being an ally, there are a few things that make him quite unique:
First: His powers allow him to travel between dimensions. It seems to be an ability that exclusive of him as there aren't many ghosts that are capable of doing this in the show. This was one of the reasons he was so useful for Walker, as he could ask Wulf to open portal and go wherever he pleases.
Second: He's one of few ghosts that talks in another completely different language, that being Esperanto. Tucker, having studied that language himself, helped translating what Wulf said to learn more about Walker's plans.
Wulf second mayor appearance was in "Claw of the wild", in which he escapes from Walker. He helps Danny and Sam with stopping Walker and rescuing the students and teachers of Casper High School.
In comparison to Cujo and the Dairy Kind, Wulf has more screen time and his character is a bit more complex. He isn't guided by his instincts like Cujo. However, he shares a few animalistic traits like growling, licking and sleeping like a dog would.

Okay. This the end of Part 1. I may post the Part 2 during the weekend because i don't think all the characters are not fit in one post.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Danny Phantom
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Danny Fenton & Wesley Weston
Characters: Danny Fenton, Wesley Weston, Jazz Fenton, Maddie Fenton
Additional Tags: Walker is mentioned repeatedly, Phantom Family AU, Revelations, being a lil shit is genetic apparently, Danny swears in stars and constellations and space stuff, Wes swears with cuss words
Summary: Prompt from Tumblr: I wish you would write a fic about Danny being a little shit to Vlad by revealing him to Wes.
Wes comes over and nearly gets Danny’s half life ended, which leads to further family revelations that leave Danny’s head spinning.
Danny Fenton was having a weird and not particularly pleasant week. His Dad had finally encountered the Box Ghost, who took one look at him and glitched out like a Bethesda character before apparently regaining his memories. Apparently, the Box Ghost was Jason Fenton, older brother of Jack Fenton. The Box Ghost was Danny’s Uncle. That was weird as fuck to discover, especially when he implied that Box Lunch would be a person he’d have to deal with soonish. He was going to have a cousin. His already living cousin, Wes, had decided later that week to ruin Danny’s life by asking him right in front of Jazz and Mom if he still had that giant green dog thing he’d crashed a game with. Danny dragged him up to the third floor of Fentonworks, shoved him into his room, and learned very quickly that Wes had figured out that he was Phantom the moment he focused on him. “Orion, man, you can’t just imply I’m a ghost in front of Mom or Dad!” “Why not?” Wes stared at him like he’d grown a second head - he hadn’t, he knew the sensation - and Danny took a moment to redirect the energy surging to his eyes over his skin and outward. It blanketed the room in a wave and left what Tucker had described as the feeling of touching an old tv and feeling static on your fingers all over the place. Wes rubbed his arm and raised a brow at him. “Wes, tell me what Jack Fenton is going to think if you tell him ‘hey that ghost kid you shoot at all the time is your kid’? Actually, no, how the fuck did you even figure it out?” “You look like you put on your suit and then someone turned on the color inversion filter on their camera. Blue skin, white hair, black and white suit.” Wes paused and poked Danny’s cheek, looking him in the eye. “Your eyes should be orange instead of green though if that were the whole case. How’d this happen? Last time I talked to you, you n Tucker were talking about building a motorcycle that could fly.” “The hoverbike has sorta been put on hold, I’ll admit,” Danny grumbled, digging the heels of his palms into his eyes. He pulled his hands away from his face and Wes was still there, tall and stupid and overly observant. “If I tell you what happened, do you promise not to out me to my parents?” “I-should I treat this like you’re in the closet?” Wes snorted at the idea. “Closeted dead guy. Alright, I can get that. But uh, if you’re dead, why are you still…” he wiggled his hand and then gestured at Danny’s room. “In a house with ghost hunters?” “Well, to start with, I’m not actually dead. Not entirely, anyway.” Danny sat down on his bed and Wes followed, and after taking a moment to triple check that Vlad’s bugs weren’t in his room with another wave of energy, Danny told Wes the story of the Accident. It was a short story, but he was slow about it. He’d never really discussed it with anyone, Sam and Tucker just sort of knew better than to bring it up and Jazz probably thought he’d tell her himself in his own time. By the time he finished, Wes looked almost as uncomfortable with the situation as Danny felt. “You know, not to sound like a cheesy 90’s cartoon character but this is why you shouldn’t give in to peer pressure.” Danny snorted and laughed at that, and Wes grinned even when Danny elbowed him. “Ok, so I’m putting together that you did a bunch of dumb shit and found yourself decided to be a superhero. What the fuck was up with the dog, or the mayor getting kidnapped? Your eyes were fuckin red when you stole a bunch of shit that one time too.” “Ok in order of what all happened: Axiom labs euthanized their guard dogs and one of them came looking for his squeaky toy but forgot where it was and no matter how many times I shoved Cujo back into the portal-” “ Cujo ?” Wes snorted and ruffled Danny’s hair. “Have you been reading the stuff Sam gives you or did your emo phase just never really end? You have the emo bangs.” “I do not!” Danny huffed, running a hand through his curly hair that, well, Wes couldn’t really ruin a mess, could he? “You’re the one with actual bangs, sasquatch hunter.” “Acknowledging that Big Foot is real doesn’t mean I’m gonna go and shoot it.” Wes crossed his arms and rested them on Danny’s head. “By the way, any idea when that growth spurt is due?” “Bold words for someone with his shins within targeting range.” “I can and will put you in a headlock Astroboy.” “I can slam dunk you through a hoop like your precious balls.” Wes said nothing to this and simply leaned more onto Danny’s head. “If I snap my neck because of you I’m suing. Anyway no matter how often I yeeted Cujo back into the Ghost Zone-” “I beg of you to call it something cooler. Call it the afterlife even, just. Please.” “He just kept digging his way out. So, I looked at his tag, saw that he came from Axiom, and we ended up in there, while getting shot at by the Red Huntress-” “Valerie, right?” “H-” “She appeared as the Huntress literally the same time the dog shit was happening, and I am getting increasingly worried that no one has noticed that she sounds the same in her Red Huntress suit as she does in the Nasty Burger mascot suit.” Wes dropped his arms to Danny’s shoulder, but still rested his chin in his hair, humming loudly. Danny slid into that spot between and snorted when Wes fell onto the bed. “I can’t tell you how pissed she was that I outed her to her dad about being the Huntress so that she wouldn’t get herself killed fighting Pariah Dark. Pretty sure if you tell her or anyone else about that, she’ll shoot you.” “I mean, it’d probably get her swarmed by so much hostility she stops shooting at you, so that’d be a plus. I’d just come back and bug you anyway.” “You’re a jerk, but I guess you’re alright.” Danny flopped back. “The mayor thing was a ghost, this douche bag prison warden named Walker in the GZ who decided that since I broke out of his prison I owe him over a thousand years and he’d make my home a prison instead.” Wes stared at him, clasped his hands flat against each other, and took a deep breath. “There are so many things wrong in that sentence. Why were you in ghost prison?” “I did ghost crimes.” Wes looked and sounded like he was in some deal of pain, and Danny couldn’t help but grin. “Dad’s anniversary present for Mom fell through the portal while I was cleaning up by shooting things into their proper place,” he covered Wes’ mouth as he opened it, “and so I flew in after it, but it was a ‘real world item’ as though the Ghost Zone is fake somehow, and that was ‘Against The Rules’ according to Walker.” Danny rolled his eyes. “I got the present out and back to Dad but I had to like, get to him at your mom’s place.” “Did you fly all the way from Minnesota to Arkansas for a present?” “Arcturus, no, not with my powers.” Danny laughed, laying back on his bed. “That’d take me like, 8 hours at top speed. No, I used the Speeder.” “Have you modified it to get into space?” “Not yet.” “Do you have permission to mod it for space travel?” “Do I have permission to be dead?” “Touche.” “Anyway, Walker is stronger than me, even when possessing a human, so when all eyes and cameras were on me he possessed the mayor and dragged me back inside to make it look like I was dragging him in. Whole invasion was his idea.” “Danny?” “And then with the robberies when my eyes were red, did you know about Circus Gothica? Cause me and some other ghosts were under the control of the ring master of the circus, Freakshow, who had this freakin crystal ball thing that could control ghosts attached to his staff. It shattered after a very long fall, thank Astrea.” “That’s really fucked up. You’ve had a fucked up life.” “Yeah.” Danny shrugged. “I guess I have.” “Know what’s more fucked up about this?” Wes had a too big grin on his face and Danny narrowed his eyes. “Do you remember my mom’s last name?” “Wal..ker… no. ” The two of them were thundering down the stairs in seconds, Danny half shouting in the livingroom. “ Mom was your dad, by chance, a law enforcement officer, or jail warden or something?” Mom looked up at him from the staff she was tinkering with on the table - note to self, sterilize the table before dinner - and blinked at him a couple of times before smiling and nodding. “Why yes, he did. Warden James Lamont Walker ran the Spittoon prison when he was alive. He was a good man, if a bit strict.  To my and Alicia’s fury and grief he was murdered during a prison break.” Mom stared off in the distance, the air around her curling with a dark cold that Danny was sure only he could see. Then she softened up a bit and smiled softly at them. “Why?” “No reason, auntie, I was just curious about something and Danny thought we should ask you.” Wes played with the hem of his shirt while maintaining eye contact and Danny wondered if he had a tell for awkwardness like that. Then he realized he was rubbing the back of his neck. “Do you have any pictures of him?” “Oh, yes! They’re in the shed! My boxes are actually labelled.” “Uh oh, careful, Dad might hear of organization and come to tear it up,” Danny said with a laugh, half dragging Wes out the back door. When they were out of his mom’s considerable ear shot, Danny said softly, but with feeling, “Fuck.” “Got locked up by grandpa, huh? That’s like, the worst way to get grounded ever .” Wes snickered and watched Danny run-walk up to the shed, hand glowing so softly you could only see it by staring directly at it as he turned the knob. “There are odds, slim ones, that this is a whole different Walker. It might even be his first name.” “Who the hell names their kid Walker?” “Walter, Wayne and Wesley Weston.” “Alright then.” For a few minutes the two of them searched through the mess known as the Fenton Family Shed for a box with a label neither had thought to ask for. Eventually, they found one labeled Scrapbooks and carefully eased it out of the mess of it all. “Y’knonw, Danny,” Wes said as they opened the box and started flipping through scrapbooks with just enough care not to damage them. “I’m feelin kinda good about investigating a ghost with you. Is this how it is with you n your boyfriend and best friend?” Danny almost tore a page out, turning to stare at Wes. He must’ve felt the temperature drop for a second because he looked up with a raised brow. “What?” “Boyfriend?” “Tucker. Tucker Foley.” Danny’s jaw dropped and Wes’ confusion morphed into a shit eating grin. “You know, Tucker spends most of his time with you Foley? The one you build shit with all the time? The nerd that you get sick in sync with? I’ve seen you lose a pencil and then he puts one behind your ear while you look for the one you lost. You made him a custom gaming computer disguised as a console.” Danny’s face burned red as a tomato at this point and he shoved Wes. “Shut up I’m not dating Tucker!” “I have to ask Jazz about this now, you’re killing me.” Wes snorted and flipped a page. He blinked down at the scrapbook and pointed at a picture. “James Walker. This look anything like him?” Danny took the book and looked at the picture. Looked at the several pictures of the man with his daughters, wearing a black pinstriped suit in a handful of them. And he let out a long, loud groan. “I hate this week, I hate it so much.” Wes started cackling and Danny scowled. “That reminds me.” He kicked Wes in the shins and grinned. “Much better. Also, Wes, I gotta tell you. I’m not one of a kind, as far as my living status goes.” “Oh what, there’s another Schrodinger’s little shit flying around out there?” Wes rubbed his ankle and hissed. “Well, you didn’t hear it from me, but that fruitloop we call a mayor may have been elected because he possessed literally everyone that was voting.” Wes went silent and stared at him, and Danny nodded. “Think you can pester him instead of me? He wants to kill Dad and thinks that he can get Mom if he does that.” “Danny. My Dad works for Masters.” “This puts you in the perfect position to mess with him, I say. Just act like you’re there to see your dad.” “You oblivious asshole. I fuckin love you, cous.” “Same here, skyscraper.”

Chapter 7: Shades of Gray
Sidney’s eyes slid past Jazz, towards the rest of the city that laid behind her.
“That different, huh?” she asked, tone light and teasing. He’d been doing it almost the whole time that they’d been up here, on the roof of Casper High. It must’ve been forever since Sidney had last seen the rest of Amity Park.
He laughed, clearly sheepish. “Sorry. I don’t mean to be rude.”
“I know, it’s fine,” she assured him, curling her legs underneath herself again. Her jumpsuit creaked a little, pinching her strangely, but Jazz was finally getting used to it. Was spending enough time in her ghost form to adjust. “Amity probably looks way different, huh?”
“Yeah.” His gaze wandered off again, towards the busy streets away from the school. It wasn’t that late yet, but, well. Not a whole lot of people came out near the school on a Sunday.
Besides, enough people had seen her and Phantom now. There was no point in trying to hide the existence of ghosts anymore, not after that huge battle with Spectra just a few days ago.
Jazz opened her mouth to say more, but cold mist wafted free instead. She groaned, drawing Sidney’s attention back to her.
“Ghost,” she explained, answering his unasked question.
She pushed herself up onto her feet, knowing that she would have to go look for it herself. Phantom was patrolling, yes, but he was taking care of the far side of Amity. If he came too close, Sidney would set off his ghost sense, and they didn’t want to risk him missing any ghosts because he thought it was just Sidney.
A small bark sounded behind her, and Jazz froze. Then turned around, slowly. There, on the roof of the school, was the ghost that had (probably) set off her ghost sense.
The ghost was small and clearly a dog, puppy-like with big red eyes. Its fur was bright green, but its folded ears were black, and its lolling tongue was faint purple. Its tail, as wispy and flame-like as her own hair, was wagging up a storm.
“Well, that saves me the search, at least.” She stared down at it, and it looked back at her.
“Be careful!” Sidney cautioned, perched on the edge of the roof. “Animal ghosts are as unpredictable as real animals!”
“I know, Sidney.” She rolled her eyes. His advice was meant well, of course, but she had fought plenty of animalistic ghosts to know how to deal with them. This one, though… It didn’t seem particularly volatile.
She lowered herself down into a crouch. The dog didn’t move, but kept its eyes on her. She could tell, now, that it was wearing a black collar with glinting spikes on it. A dead pet?
Slowly, she extended an arm towards it. It stopped panting, stretching out its neck to sniff her hand. Whatever the ghost was looking for, apparently she was accepted, because it nosed her hand.
Jazz shifted her fingers, scratching the dog in its cold ectoplasmic fur. Its eyes closed into squints as she petted it.
“Jazz…” Sidney said, and she turned to look over her shoulder at him. He was clearly worried, gray eyes darting between her and the ghost.
“It’s fine, I think it used to be a pet.” She frowned, turning back to the dog. But if it was just a pet dog that died, why did it become a ghost? And why would said ghost then come to Amity? Did it live here? Was it looking for its former family, its owners? “It’s not volatile.”
Sidney hummed, tone clearly skeptical.
If this ghost was anything special, Phantom would know, right? He didn’t have a phone, unfortunately, so she would have to go find him to ask.
She scooped the dog off of the ground, looking at the bundle of green fur squirming in her arms. Well. She couldn’t really go looking for Phantom while carrying this ghost, could she?
The ghost was promptly shoved into Sidney’s unsuspecting arms, and he scrambled to grab hold of the dog.
“Jazz, what—”
“I just need you to hold him for a bit,” she explained, stepping away when it became clear that Sidney had the ghost. “I have to… go ask Phantom.”
“Your brother?” Sidney raised a skeptical eyebrow at her. “I don’t see why he would be any help in this situation.”
“It’s complicated.” The dog held still in Sidney’s scrawny arms. Good. Now she just had to—
“Oh!” Sidney exclaimed, arms flailing in an attempt to grab the ghost dog again. Somehow he missed every attempt—or the dog dodged them all—because it landed back on the roof.
And then, before either she or Sidney could grab it again, it was off like a shot.
“Shoot!” Sidney grunted, clearly frustrated. “Sorry, Jazz, I don’t know what it happened. It just freaked out!”
“It’s fine, Sidney. It happens.” She looked in the direction she thought the dog had gone, but couldn’t sense it. She wished her ghost sense functioned a little more like a tracker, sometimes. “Neither of us had expected it to freak out like that. Why don’t we go look for it together?”
He nodded, toeing the gravel on the roof. “Alright. Sorry, Jazz.”
“Stop apologizing.” She waved a dismissive hand in his direction. “Seriously, it’s not your fault. Come on, this is a good opportunity for you to see a little more of Amity, too.”
---
The faintest whiff of her ghost sense told Jazz that the ghost was just on the edge of her sense’s range. She followed the implied direction, hoping to finally find that dog ghost that had gotten away earlier.
It was about time, really. She’d been looking for so long that Sidney had left to go home. At this point, she figured it was more likely that she was looking for Phantom to ask him if he’d caught the ghost already.
She’d been high in the sky during the approach, in an attempt to make sure the ghost wouldn’t see her and run. It had worked; the ghost, in all its green and glowing glory, stood still in the street. Of course, it didn’t seem that Jazz was the reason for that. Phantom was darting all around it, interchangingly hitting it with blasts and dodging its swipes.
That, and the ghost she had found wasn’t the one she was looking for.
Still, she was here anyway. Might as well make herself useful, especially as the fight was taking place in a residential area.
Jazz launched herself downward, blasting the ghostly feline in the side. Apparently she had blindsided it, because the cat yowled and bounced over the street, not even landing on its feet.
“Specter?” Phantom paused, throwing her a confused look. “Thanks, but… why are you here?”
“Was looking for a ghost.” She watched the ghost clamber back onto its clawed feet. “Found you two instead.”
Phantom hummed, before throwing himself at the ghost again. It hadn’t quite recovered from her blast—thanks to the element of surprise, not her strength, she was sure—and was sucked up in the Thermos easily. She contemplated leaving, but chances were that Phantom had found the ghost dog already.
That, and the meaningful look he was throwing her meant that he would chase her down if she left without him.
She rolled her eyes but followed his path up to a nearby roof, ignoring the hushed whispers of the crowd. This neighborhood was pretty far from FentonWorks; they likely hadn’t seen much ghosts around here, not yet.
“Why were you patrolling?” Phantom asked the moment she touched down. “I thought you were spending time with Sidney?”
“I was,” she admitted, shrugging. “Some kind of ghost dog found its way up to our roof, but it wasn’t malevolent. I wasn’t sure what to do with it, but then it suddenly sprinted away. Sidney and I looked for it, but we couldn’t find it, so he went home.”
“And you kept looking?” Phantom shook his head, then nodded. “What did it look like? I might’ve come across it before you did.”
“Probably, yeah.” She held out her hands. “About this big, standard coloration. Floppy black ears, though, and a spiked collar.”
Phantom groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Of course it was him. Figures.”
“You know this one?” Well, she figured he probably knew all the ghosts they fought. But apparently this one left enough of an impression for Phantom to remember it—him.
“Yeah. Not sure if he has a name, but I’ve been calling him Cujo, and he answers to that. Sort of.” Phantom made a face. “He’s a major pain in my ass, honestly. Not too bad himself, but he’s looking for a toy from when he was alive, and that set off a huge chain reaction in my world. I thought I had more time to go look for it before he came around, but I guess not.”
“There might still be time, right?” She wasn’t sure how a dog looking for its toy could cause so much trouble, but still. Phantom had no reason to lie about this stuff. “Let’s go retrieve it before he tries doing it himself.”
“Right.” Phantom nodded, then turned to gesture further out of the city. “We’ll need to head towards Axion Labs, then.”
“Axion Labs?” she echoed as they both took flight. “Why would he go look for his toy there?”
“If the timeline matches up, which I think it does, they recently replaced their guard dogs with an advanced security system.” Phantom looked at her, his expression pained. Surely he didn’t mean… “I think Cujo was one of their old guard dogs.”
“But— They can’t have put all of those down, can they?”
He shrugged. “Maybe he died before then. I don’t know. Not like I could ask him, y’know? But his toy is there, in the old kennels.”
She opened her mouth to answer, but Phantom paused, suddenly. She stopped as well, hearing, faintly… alarms?
“We’re too late.” Phantom stared past her, and following his gaze, she saw Axion Labs in the distance. Red lights blinked over the building, and now that she was listening for them, the sound was definitely alarms that were going off.
“What happened?” Surely the ghost hadn’t caused any injuries? Phantom would’ve said if it was dangerous. Right?
“He broke in.” Phantom continued his flight again, more slowly. “The security system couldn’t stop him, because it was designed to stop humans, not ghosts. The boss is going to be pissed, and they’re not going to realize he’s a ghost and not a regular dog. The designer of the system, Damon Gray, will lose his job.”
“Gray?” she echoed, faintly. “Valerie’s dad?”
“He gets re-hired later,” Phantom said, sounding like it was supposed to a comfort. “In a lower-paying position, though. The Grays never find their way back to riches.”
Jazz felt like she had swallowed a block of ice. She had never really liked Valerie, per se, but that didn’t mean that she wanted this for her.
“And it’s—”
“Not your fault,” Phantom cut in. “Nor mine. If you want to blame someone, blame whoever is responsible for Cujo’s death.”
He paused, and she stopped next to him. She startled when he grasped for her shoulder, when he met her eyes. “Jazz. Don’t blame yourself, okay? It’s not your fault that Cujo got away—trust me, he’s very good at that. Cujo is just one ghost, and he’s not even malevolent. No one is hurt.”
“But Valerie—”
“Will be fine.” Phantom shook her shoulder a little. “Seriously. It sucks now, and it’s gonna suck for a little longer, but in the end she’ll be glad it happened. She was in my universe. She’s an A-Lister now, I know, and she won’t be allowed to stay in that group when they find out that she’s not rich anymore. It’s gonna be rough, yeah. But eventually she’ll realize that those guys were never really her friends, and she’ll find better ones, and she’ll be happy. Happier than she was before. Okay?”
“Okay,” she repeated, not really believing it.
Phantom didn’t look like he believed her either, but he let go anyway. “Good. I’ll see if Cujo got his toy, and if not, I’ll bring it out so he won’t break in again. Why don’t you go home?”
She sighed, but nodded. “I guess. Not much else I can do, anyway.”
He didn’t look happy at her sentiment, but hey, neither was she. “Good. Bye, Jazz.”
“Bye, Phantom.”
---
Jazz was still thinking about it when she heard Dash snip at someone during lunch. She looked, barely noticeable, as Dash puffed himself up, blocking Valerie’s way.
“Oh,” Valerie said, posture tense. “I see.”
This, she didn’t want to hear. Jazz turned back to her lunch, trying to ignore the way her guts squirmed. Phantom might’ve said that it was unavoidable, that it wasn’t her fault, that Valerie would be better off for it, but it didn’t feel that way.
She trusted him to be right. Her body didn’t have to agree with that, though.
There was nothing she could do about it, anyway. If the other A-Listers got troublesome enough, Sidney could interfere, but she? She couldn’t do anything.
The scrape of a lunch tray on a table. Jazz looked up, slightly, to see Valerie hesitate. She shrugged, lightly, then turned back to her own lunch.
Didn’t comment when Valerie sat down, joining her otherwise empty table.
Jazz was a Fenton, and unfortunately, the Fentons were outcasts. Danny might’ve been able to find two kids his age, similarly outcast from society—or uncaring enough to befriend him—but she hadn’t been as lucky. Not that she cared, not really. No one picked on her, anyway, and teachers liked her. Who cared about the opinions of kids?
Well, Valerie did, she supposed.
She continued eating her lunch. Phantom had encouraged her to eat well despite the awfulness of both cafeteria food and food prepared home. Apparently half-ghosts burned through a lot of energy, and she had to keep up a steady supply of energy to her developing core.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Valerie pick at her lunch as well. The girl relaxed slightly, over time.
Jazz was a Fenton, and she’d always been an outcast. She hadn’t cared enough to change it.
She had never considered that being an outcast would make her a safe haven. She was glad for it, now, for being able to at least offer that to Valerie. Even if she was the reason why Valerie needed it in the first place.
It was something, at least.
---
Jazz dove, corkscrewing around a non-existent obstacle.
“Good!” Phantom complimented as he caught back up to her side. “Could use more work, though.”
She rolled her eyes, whirling around him. “Are you really surprised?”
“Nah,” he said, easily. “But it’s good to keep in mind, now that we’re no longer hiding in the woods.”
That, at least, made sense. With Amity’s increasing familiarity with ghosts, Phantom said that they could move some of their training sessions back to the city. Some things, like flying, you just couldn’t practice in the dense woodlands.
“Fair enough.” She watched as he did a complicated roll through the air, darting up and then suddenly dropping down. Phantom might have two years of experience over her, but she was certain that this grace came from elsewhere. He looked right in the skies, in a way she didn’t think she ever would.
Still, she tried to mimic his maneuver, coming to a halt next to him. “How was that?”
“Pretty good.” He grinned at her, looking impressed. “You’ve been holding back on— Whoa!”
A bolt of pink ectoplasm shot past them, almost brushing Phantom’s arm. Jazz startled. Why hadn’t her ghost sense warned her?
She curled through the air, rather than turning in place. Staying in one spot? Potentially dangerous.
When she saw the origin of the blast, however, she faltered.
The figure was humanoid—actually human, she was sure—clothed entirely in red, but with black gloves and boots. Wearing a mask, even. Stood shakily upon a hoverboard, like they—she?—hadn’t quite gotten used to it yet. A rather sizable ecto-gun was braced against her shoulder, aimed in their direction.
A second pink blast pinged off of the green shield that had appeared in front of Jazz, and she jerked back to the moment. Phantom hung next to her, his eyes fixated on the human as well. On the ghost hunter.
Jazz opened her mouth to ask him—what now?—but Phantom whispered, so quiet she almost missed it, “Red.”
And, oh.
Red was Phantom’s ally in his dimension, wasn’t she? He trusted her to keep Amity safe from ghost attacks. They couldn’t… couldn’t fight her, could they?
The third shot went wide, and Phantom’s shield faded away. He dove, suddenly, and Jazz swallowed her questions to follow him. Behind her, she could hear thrusters whir to life.
She didn’t understand. Wasn’t Red an ally in Phantom’s world? Wasn’t that why he trusted her to keep Amity safe? Had Jazz messed something up, in this universe, that had led to this? Or did they just have to win Red over?
Why was she here, now? What had led to this sudden appearance?
Phantom paused, suddenly, low in an alley. Red’s hoverboard sped by, apparently having missed their last dive.
“What—” Jazz started, unsure of which question she was going to ask, but Phantom held up a silencing hand.
“We need to leave,” he said, quietly. “We can’t—shouldn’t—fight humans. The only way to get rid of her is to escape. Split up, and I’ll meet you back at your house later so we can talk. Okay?”
She nodded. “Gotcha.”
“On go.” He crouched in mid-air. She braced herself against a wall. “Go!”
They both pushed off, shooting diagonally out of the alley. Red had spotted them immediately, her hoverboard roaring as she raced back in their direction. Jazz threw a glance at Phantom, saw that he was heading away—towards the park, the woods—and continued her chosen direction towards home. Even if that might seem suspicious, that was were the portal was located. It made sense.
Phantom was much faster than Jazz. She knew this. She knew she was the more likely target. Red’s hoverboard just wasn’t fast enough to keep up with the older half-ghost.
Still, the roar of the engines went in the other direction.
She slowed, just a tad, to look over her shoulder. And, indeed, Red was chasing down Phantom, not her.
Was she going after the more dangerous target? Surely not? Wasn’t it better to chase the weaker target that you knew you could get, rather than go after the more dangerous one you can’t catch?
Something weird was going on here. And Jazz didn’t like it.
---
Honestly, Danny hadn’t put much thought into how he would meet with Jazz that night. They couldn’t risk meeting on the roof in their ghost forms, not if Valerie might be on patrol. And he couldn’t just phase inside as Phantom. Even if their—her—parents hadn’t ghost-proofed the place, it was far too likely that someone might come in.
But that someone might also be the Danny of this universe. If he saw Danny…
Well. They could probably play that off a shapeshifter ghost? It was his best option, he guessed. He just had to make sure Jazz knew which Danny he was.
He waited until darkness fell, his stomach grumbling as dinnertime came and went. It wasn’t as bad in his ghost form, but, well. No sense in risking the Red Huntress just for a little hunger, right?
The light came on in Jazz’ room. Showtime.
Danny turned himself invisible, flying towards her window. His powers were harder to use in human form, sure, but not impossible.
Only Jazz was present. He knocked, drawing her attention to the seemingly-empty window. She frowned, but caught on quickly—as expected. Nodded.
He phased inside, dropping his invisibility almost immediately.
“Phantom,” she greeted him, and he ignored the usual pang of hurt. He understood, of course, had encouraged her to call him Phantom instead of Danny. It was important to maintain that difference, to remember that he wasn’t her Danny.
But hearing his sister, her voice so like his own sister’s, call him Phantom instead of Danny…
It hurt. But that was okay. Just a little pain, he could endure. Better him than her.
“Hey, Jazz.” He hesitated, then sat down on the edge of her bed. Watched as she dragged a chair in closer, so they could face each other more easily while talking.
“So… Red?” she probed, in a tone he knew oh-so-well.
He laughed a little, despite the pain of the memories. “Yes. The Red Huntress, the public calls her. Or, well. You know what I mean.”
Jazz nodded, slowly. Her facial expression was one he was very familiar with. It said ‘you’d better keep talking, or I will dig out this information the hard way’.
“She’s hired—kinda—by Vlad. Well, an anonymous benefactor, but it’s Vlad. He drops off ghost hunting supplies for her, top notch, invented by himself. In return, she hunts down ghosts. Specifically, she always had it out for me.”
“Still does, it seems,” Jazz pointed out. “She chased after you, even though you were too fast for her. Any sensible hunter would’ve gone after me.”
Then Jazz frowned. “Wait, but why now? What happened that would’ve brought this on?”
Ah, and there came the real banger. The source of guilt for both of them—because he hadn’t prevented it. Almost casually, he said, “Well, her dad lost his job because of ghosts.”
“Oh.” Jazz’ eyes grew wide. “Wait. That was Valerie? A-Lister, sends jocks after kids instead of getting her hands dirty, Valerie?”
“Well, no longer an A-Lister,” Danny pointed out with a shrug. “And she is like, a ninth degree black belt. Trust me, you do not want to take Valerie on in a direct fight.”
“But—” Jazz slammed her mouth shut, then groaned. “But why? I mean, I get why she’s after ghosts, but she was gunning for you, specifically, I’m sure of it. Why would she do that?”
And that was the real question, wasn’t it? In his own universe, he’d drawn her ire by being associated with Cujo. In this one? It must be Vlad’s doing, right?
“I’m not sure,” he admitted. “In my own universe, she had fixated on me because I was there when her dad’s reputation was ruined. She thought Cujo was my dog, and blamed me for his rampage. In this one… I don’t know. I guess Vlad asked her to focus on me, but I can’t imagine why.”
“Maybe he wants her to… eliminate you?” Jazz said, slowly. “I mean, I did turn him down because I already had a ghostly mentor. Maybe he thinks that, if he takes out the competition, he can win me back?”
Danny made a face. “Ugh, that sounds exactly like Vlad. It’s possible, yeah.”
“So we just… need to win Valerie over, somehow?” Jazz shifted in her chair, the frown back. “How did you do it in your universe? Especially since she hated you?”
He laughed. It wasn’t happy. “I didn’t, not really.”
“But—”
“Valerie hates ghosts. I’m not really a ghost, am I?” He grinned, humorlessly. “She fought me until she found out. After that she was still pissed, but she didn’t shoot me anymore, so.”
“But you… you said you trusted her to keep Amity safe,” Jazz stammered, eyes wide.
He shrugged, plucking on his sleeve. It was going ragged—all this time outside in the same clothes was wearing them out way faster than he would’ve thought. “Well, yeah. She’s a great ghost hunter, especially now that she’s not driven by vengeance. I trust her. I never said she trusted me back.”
“Oh.” She turned her face down, her tucked-away hair slipping free.
“But that doesn’t mean anything,” he said, trying to comfort her again. “I mean, I’ve got plenty of enemies that you talked out of fighting. And your Valerie, your Red Huntress, she’s not blaming you for what happened. If anyone’s gonna talk her into being a proper ally, it’ll be you. You’re great at that stuff.”
Jazz looked up again. Her eyes were big and watery. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.” He shrugged, trying to come across as casual again. “I mean, look at all these ghosts you’ve talked out of violence. Lunch Lady, Dora, Sidney, Desiree. I fought all of those guys.”
A grin crept on her face, little by little. “Yeah,” she said again, more sure. “Yeah, I can do it. I’ll convince Valerie. I can do it.”
---
Jazz walked into the canteen a little late. Automatically, she took in all the tables, searching for a spot to sit. Her eye caught on Valerie, alone, outside despite the cold.
She bit her lip.
Win her over. Right. She could do that.
Her lunch tray was filled, and then she walked outside. Sat down on the opposite side of Valerie.
The girl shot her a skeptical look, throwing a very clear glance back at the door. Jazz shrugged.
“I know what ghosts can do to someone’s reputation,” she said, in lieu of an explanation.
“Oh.” Valerie’s gaze dropped back to her plate. Her posture softened a little, though. “Right.”
They sat in silence for a long moment, both of them picking away at their lunches.
“Look,” Jazz finally said, breaking the quiet again. “I’m not going to say that I know what it feels like, because I know that it’s not the same. But Valerie…”
Valerie looked up from her lunch, meeting her eyes.
Jazz rolled a lipstick over the table. It hit Valerie’s lunch tray with a metal sound, the smooth plating catching the light even when it laid still.
“If you ever want to learn more about ghosts, including how to fight off the bad ones…” She shrugged. “Well, I’d be willing to teach you. Including how to use that laser lipstick.”
“Laser?” Valerie echoed, somewhat incredulously. She reached for the tube. Uncapped it to reveal the bright green inner tube.
“Just point and twist the green band,” she explained. Handing a ghost hunter a weapon might not seem like the best plan, sure. But Valerie already had plenty of guns. The laser lipstick didn’t pack that much of a punch, and it would win her some trust.
Besides, if Valerie wanted to hunt ghosts, she might as well be safe doing it.
Valerie shook her head, capping the lipstick again. “I’ll try that somewhere safer, if you don’t mind.”
But she stuck it in her pocket, rather than handing it back to Jazz, so she counted it a victory.
“Now, about ghosts…” Valerie continued, a grin slowly creeping onto her face.
And Jazz smiled back.

Danny Phantom Ghost Origin Categorization
First, for the sake of my sanity I’ll be limiting this to things shown or said on the show. Widely accepted fanon and wiki knowledge unfortunately do not count, and as usual Butch gets no say.
The categories are as follows: Confirmed Dead, which is self-explanatory; Presumed Dead, since most of the ghosts don’t have defined backstories; Naturally Formed, which were made from the Ghost Zone’s ectoplasm without any spirit attached; Artificial, which is also self-explanatory except for a minor detail that I’ll bring up when it becomes relevant; Concepts, which are the physical manifestation of a particular idea or natural force; and Other, for ghosts that I don’t have enough context to put in the other categories. And also Boxed Lunch. Boxed Lunch is weird.
With all that said, let’s begin.
Confirmed Dead
Desiree (died of old age, trauma of broken heart created ghost form)
Sidney Poindexter (suicide)
The Dairy King (cause of death unknown, confirmed due to picture of his living form in Vlad’s mansion)
Cujo the Ghost Dog (euthanized, the only ghost known to have changed his obsession)
The Lunch Lady (cause of death unknown, confirmed due to her knowledge of Casper High’s cafeteria menu and room layout marking her as having either worked or learned there in the past)
The Flying Dutchman (cause unknown, likely drowning via shipwreck, yes I know he’s a Spongebob character but due to the Nicktoons games he and Danny have technically met, confirmed due to admitting it outright)
Danny Phantom (electrocuted by ghost portal, instantaneous, only half)
Vlad Plasmius (electrocuted by ghost portal, succumbed to wounds in hospital long afterwards, only half)
Half-ghost Jack Fenton (electrocuted by ghost portal, succumbed to wounds in hospital long afterwards, only half, exists in alternate timeline)
Hotep RA (cause unknown, confirmed due to originally serving Tucker’s ancestor/former self, Pharaoh Duulaman)
Presumed Dead
Ember McLain (likely burned to death, fears being forgotten)
The Box Ghost (likely crushed by rectangular containers, considers them powerful weapons)
Penelope Spectra (cause unknown, lives off the misery of others, masquerades as a living human)
Nicolai Technus (probably electrocution, might actually be the Concept Ghost of technology though it’s unlikely)
Youngblood (cause unknown, dislike of and inability to be seen by adults may imply neglect)
Walker and his men (likely law enforcement who fell in the line of duty)
Lydia (cause unknown, loyal to crime lord Freakshow the Ringmaster for reasons unknown)
Elastica (cause unknown, trapped under Freakshow’s control for an indeterminate amount of time)
Goliath (cause unknown, trapped under Freakshow’s control for an indeterminate amount of time)
Green Kid (cause unknown, trapped under Freakshow’s control for an indeterminate amount of time)
Ghost Writer (cause unknown, might actually be Concept Ghost of literature)
Jonny 13 and Kitty (cause unknown, likely a motorcycle accident)
Baby Face Boyle (cause unknown)
Klemper (cause unknown, very lonely)
Some background ghosts
The Kingdom of Aragon (specifically its people)
Naturally Formed
Ectopi
Other ghost animals
Blob Ghosts
Some background ghosts (look at the happy green ghost that shows up sometimes and tell me that he doesn’t look sort of like an advanced ectopus)
Skulker (it just seems that way)
Artificial
Ecto Food (Jack Fenton is making carnivorous green macaroni and cheese and will continue to make carnivorous green macaroni and cheese unless we stop him)
Danny Clones (created by Vlad using Danny’s ghost form DNA, unstable)
Dani Phantom (created by Vlad using Danny’s ghost and human form DNA, stabilized by failed prototype of ghost weakening serum created by Jack Fenton)
Shadow (an extension of Jonny 13’s power, has a will of its own)
Lydia’s tattoos (extensions of Lydia’s power)
Sleepwalkers (extensions of Nocturne’s power, I think)
Nightmerica, Femalien and Terminatra (created by Desiree due to Sam Manson unintentionally “wishing” to hurt Paulina Sanchez)
Sayonara Pussycat (created by Desiree due to Paulina wishing to be as popular as the character, extracted from host by Danny Phantom)
Tucker Phantom (created by Desiree due to Tucker wishing for ghost powers, extracted from host by the Fenton Ghost Catcher)
Dan Plasmius (created by combining Danny Phantom and Vlad Plasmius after splitting them from their human halves in an alternate timeline, exists in the current timeline due to complicated Time Stuff)
Freakshow (created via the Reality Gauntlet, existed for all of a few minutes)
And now we get into that other part I mentioned. Basically, if something has the ghostly aura (that white outline we all love so much) without being directly affected by a ghost, I register that as the thing having its own ectoplasmic field, and thus technically a ghost itself. The Fenton Exo-suit’s Phantom form doesn’t count, since it only has the aura if a ghost is piloting it. This is mostly just so I can add more things to the list, honestly
Red Huntress 2.0 (created via a combination of the Red Huntress 1.0 suit and Technus’s power, you can pry this idea from my cold dead ectoplasmicly charged hands) (note: this does not make Valerie a ghost, just her suit)
Skulker’s Body (created by Skulker; a robotic suit of armor infused with his ectoplasmic signature; motor functions, sensors, physical projectiles and flight system do not require ectoplasm to function)
Car-Puter (remote controlled robot created by Technus, I know it’s from Phantom Planet but it was really cool guys)
The Sphinx (I think. Maybe. It seemed that way at least)
The Flying Dutchman’s Ship (an echo of his original, currently wrecked ship)
Youngblood’s Ship (possibly an extention of his power, I’m not sure, fueled by manual labor)
Jonny’s Motorcycle (the thing can fly)
Concepts
Clockwork and the Observants (spirits of Time)
Pandora and her kingdom (spirits of Greek Mythology)
Undergrowth (spirit of Vegetation)
Vortex (spirit of Weather and Natural Disasters)
Pariah Dark (the Ghost King, not actually a Concept Ghost but very similar)
Fright Knight (spirit of Fear in general and Halloween in particular, right-hand man of whoever wields the Crown of Fire and Ring of Rage, usually Pariah Dark)
Nocturne (spirit of Dreams, far less powerful than the other concept ghosts without aid)
Other
Frostbite and the Yetis of the Far Frozen
Wulf (seriously, he’s cool, but Esperanto-speaking Wolf-man doesn’t exactly give me much to work off of)
Monster Cat
The Behemoth
Vlad’s Vulture Lackeys
Ember’s Band
Poindexter’s Classmates (are they extensions of Poindexter’s power turned inwards or just the ghost versions of themselves, just as consumed by what happened to him as he is?)
Pariah Dark’s Skeleton Army
Youngblood’s Skeleton Crew, especially the Parrot
Bertrand
Amorpho (shapeshifters in general, since I can’t fall back on my Warp Core theory during this)
Boxed Lunch (oh, very much Boxed Lunch)
Most of the background ghosts, especially the butcher with an eyeball for a head
Edit: Can’t believe I forgot the title. I should’ve just gone to bed.

Also I will not be acknowledging the whole “ghosts are separate species” thing on this blog. Prior to Butch saying this, it was either hinted or outright implied ghosts are dead people. In Desiree’s backstory, it’s pretty solidified that some ghosts are dead people. She died of a broken heart and old age.
Cujo was a security dog for the Axion labs.  Pointdexter is clearly a kid who died either as a kid or as an adult. Ember’s song pretty much implies she dies. There’s probably some other bits I’m missing. Granted, some of the ghosts seem more like monsters (i.e undergrowth, nocturne etc.) But to me, it’s clear some of them were human at one point.

Yeah, that’s right. I’m gonna talk about Cujo.

I know I skipped over the antagonists from a lot of early episodes, but I’ll get to them eventually. Cujo’s just only gets one episode, and he is a fairly important character, in my opinion. So let’s get to it.

Okay, so it’s made pretty explicitly clear that Cujo was one of the guard dogs at Axion Labs, the ones that Damon Gray’s security system replaced. His squeaky toy is here, he has an Axion collar, and the owner repeatedly states that they got rid of the guard dogs.
I’m not sure how else we’re supposed to interpret this, but it sounds to me like they put the guard dogs down. I’m no expert on how these things work, and maybe Cujo died another way, but that really does seem to be what’s implied here, and that’s really messed up and sad. Especially when you consider Cujo’s personality.
Obviously, he can be large and beastly, but he warms up to Danny fairly quickly upon being shown kindness (in fact, he seems to imprint on him and view him as his new owner), and as Danny mentions, he’s clearly trained. Despite having a clear goal (finding his squeaky toy), he always goes right back to Danny when he gets out of the ghost zone. He’s even got that guard dog protectiveness, as he only breaks free from where he’s tied up when he senses that Danny’s in danger.
Despite technically being an antagonist, Cujo is still very much a dog and cares about Danny a lot. The fact that even a dog is written with such a clear personality (and potentially a really sad past) says a lot about the antagonists of this show, especially of season 1.
Another interesting thing about Cujo is that he’s never captured by the Fenton thermos and is the first (and possibly only?) ghost that we ever see achieve his goal in the human world. He comes to find his squeaky toy, and when he gets it, he disappears.

After that, the only times we ever see him again are a brief cameo in Reign Storm and a flashback in Kindred Spirits.
These cameos seem to imply that Cujo’s still in the ghost zone, but personally, I like to see this as the first time we see a ghost cross over/move on. If that had been more a part of the show, this would’ve been a pretty big episode.
Imagine that instead of just not especially caring where Cujo went after this, Danny looked more into it, and the trio realized they can help ghosts move on if they help them with their obsessions. That wouldn’t have made for much of a superhero show, but it would’ve been really interesting and taken more advantage of the fact that this is a show about ghosts.
That’s just how I like to see this, though. Especially considering Cujo’s origins.
Also, I didn’t know where else to mention this, so I’ll just tack this on at the end. As far as we know, Cujo has no name on his collar or anything. Danny named him. That’s very cute.
