Just finished Cut Stones and Crossroads, a book about Perú antes del turismo de masas by the British Canadian archaeologist Ronald Wright. Fascinating insights about the Inca, the Andean empires that preceded that short-lived empire, and the current (1970s anyway) lives of their Andean progeny. Recommended reading for any one interested in archaeology, Andean culture or who is planning a trip to Machu Picchu.
Apukunaq Tianan a Quechua (''The abode of the gods”) is a tourist attraction in Cusco, Peru that features 20-30 feet tall stone sculptures of Andean gods and sacred animals. Despite it’s ‘ancient’ appearance, these are modern sculptures created by sculptor Michael de Titan.
Think jungle adventure and you’ll probably picture crossing a rope bridge. Every year the locals of Cusco, Peru, work together to preserve the last Inca rope bridge.
