You know, I really wish we knew more about the contents of Cassie's book, Mindswarm.

I know we can't know everything that's in it, I'm just wondering about general topics and what's in that 25-step process for improving mental efficiency. We can assume one of the main topics is how to multitask considering that's something she's known for and I believe Milla mentions it when she's talking with Raz about how she's multitasking, but what else is there?

The reason why I'm wondering this is because I've got a potential headcanon involving her book.

See, when you look at her section of the mural in Psychonauts 2, we get the following dialogue:

What's catching my attention is the mention of mental compartmentalization. Why it's catching my attention is because I've been thinking about Sasha's backstory and his mind cube. He's all about compartmentalization in his mind, and he had to figure out how to compartmentalize everything so well.

I'm still rotating some thoughts about this but I think it would be interesting if in Cassie's book, it talks about mental compartmentalization, and Sasha read her book when he was younger and took the compartmentalization aspect to the extreme we see in the games.

It would make sense. The mental compartmentalization could be part of that 25-step process for improving mental efficiency. It was a popular book that came out before the days of the Psychonauts, so Sasha could have read it when he was younger. We don't know if his dad was psychic or not (personally I think he wasn't) so he could have been alone as a psychic and used the book to learn more, and we know Sasha is a nerd. He could have wanted to use the improving mental efficiency steps, and then took the compartmentalization part to the extreme (which, oh boy I'm going to have to think more about the potential reasons why he would have wanted to do that).

I just think it could have been neat.

Travellers Rest: god this game is it. my lil auadhd brain loves it. i am currently hyperfixated and i am in LOVE!!! It's an early access game still but has TONSSSSS OF SHIT IN IT. You run your own little tavern that you can steadily upgrade and expand, and there's farming, mining, ranching, the WHOLE shebang my guy. It's so frickin awesome AAAAAAA

Coral Island: I love coral island, I've put nearly 100 hours into it, however... there has been some controversy over their latest update, so fair warning, there is still quite a few bugs, some mechanics still aren't fully realized, and there's still main quest sections missing. However! It is BY FAR an incredible early access game. Multiple cultures intertwine, the devs do a lot of work for raising money for oceanic causes, and honestly the game really hits home as I remember the oil spill in the Gulf and the damage it caused when I was growing up, so having a game where we try to heal the ocean of its oil spill... it's amazing ❤️

Seduce Me The Otome: I have recently renewed my love of Seduce Me, as it was my first ever VN I read in my teens :3 I love the universe, I love how the lore takes form, and I am also a very big Sam simp. Yeah. Surprising, right? 💀

those are pretty much the only PC games I've played recently, but other than that, I've been sucked back into Clash of Clans (yeah i was the kid who hyperfixated on it, don't judge me) and I found this cute af kitty tycoon called Cat Snack Bar. highly recommend 10/10 love the lil tycoon kitties ❤️ entrepreneurs at their finest

Idk, it's just kinda fun thinking of extraordinarily lame sounding names for such bad-ass types of characters lmao

ooh, ad-am does have a ring to it. How we feeling about I-an, Ca-leb, or No-ah? The more badass the alien the more lame their name must be it’s scripture I think.

This convention is a little difficult to keep up with a finite supply of short two syllable names but the idea of there being 27 fan characters named Li-am or something is really funny to me

I did try to keep up some underlying reason for their names I promise but also I’m just a cringe ass nae nae baby who likes saying Things

Since Al-an is a pun on alien and a reference to the original precursor name of Almanacs I tried to do that a bit with my architect ocs I’ve made so far. Not quite as cleverly though.

Ar-lo is kind of an acronym for Architect-Lord, in reference to his commandeering diplomat personality as the last precursor protecting the home planet. It���s also a reference to Overlord from transformers.

Jo-an’s name is more direct in that I wanted a name that was feminine and reflected her saintly personality. It also keeps the suffix -an from Al-an’s name to reflect a similar disposition :3c

Getting a little too philosophical over Shape Book

feel free to skip on this rambling - I will return to normal posting soon enough, just been thinking a lot.

TL;DR: Cy thinks about what Mr. Abbott would think.

Y'know, after writing so much about Flatland - and I will most certainly continue to write about it - I've kinda been thinking.

About Mr. Abbott specifically - what would he think of all of this?

When he wrote Flatland, did he just.. not bother thinking about any of this like the biology and culture of the bidimensional world, or he did and just didn't find it fitting or had no time to put it in the book? Once he finished it.. did he continue thinking about A. Square and Lord Sphere and everything else or did it just kind of go into a neat little corner of his brain (considering it didn't really get a lot of attention back in the day)

I've never really bothered to think about an afterlife or care about dead people (even considering I was the kind of kid who "Pondered the mysteries of the Sphinx", thinking about existential stuff a lot etc, what God could be, etc) til now, cuz I'm just curious.

If there is one - and he could just look down at our world whenever he wanted or check back on what has become of his work... what would he think?

Put aside the fact I wrote about homosexual shapes or find A Sphere real darn cute..

Look at all the people - Ladd's film, the original characters and fanfiction on one side and the speculative biology and culture on another, Planiverse, Flatterland.. - did Abbott ever want to make his own little characters? Did he ever expect someone to do all of this for his work? What would he think of all we've done? What would he think of the headcanons, the humanized Flatlanders, the OCs, the world we've created from his..

I hope he's proud, because his funny shape book makes us all go a little rabid.

I kinda just want to go up - upward yet not "upward", wherever he is if he's anywhere - or have had all of this happen somehow in the 1880's and just ask him. But like "I" (Cy the Line) said in the funny shape fanfic - old time, eaten time - we can't talk to him in this life nor can we be sure we will in the next ball - or if we'll remember such a thing at that moment.

if you're wondering why I stopped posting here, it's because the algorithm on tumblr is worse than instagram and tiktok and that is saying something. the algorithm here is so legitimately god awful I cannot get even the tiniest bit of traction on my posts. I've wanted to start posting here again but now I hear that the owner might pull the plug and I'm scared it will have been a waste of time. I think I fell in love with the idealized silly gay people haven image of tumblr shown via youtube but actually using this app is another story, I realize the algorithm wasn't always this bad but my god is it hard to integrate to. I have no idea how to keep myself afloat here. I can rely on tags and consistency everywhere else but here? I am utterly lost. I love tumblr, the historical posts, the bizarre ecosystem created in this diverse petri dish of weird mentally unstable queer people, but I don't even know where to begin. the bots are RELENTLESS I cannot keep track of them, and my posts go unseen entirely. it's exhausting. that's all I'll say. maybe pinterest will yield some less horrifying results? anyway let me know if I should give this hellsite another try, I'm just ranting. bye 🫶

You know, I really wonder about how what happened with Maligula affected things for the adult psychics we see throughout Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2 back when they were growing up.

Maligula "died" 20 years ago, her being this huge threat because of what happened in Grulovia was only 20 years ago in the world of the game. That'd be like talking right now about something that happened back in 2004 (which is wild in itself to think about).

So how did this affect the lives of the adults we know? What did this mean for characters like Sasha, Milla, Hollis, Truman, everyone else?

I've especially been wondering about this for Sasha and Milla (since they're always on my brain while I replay the first game). I know we don't have canon ages for them, but I think they're probably around 30 years old or so. Old enough to join the Psychonauts, develop their skills, and become the duo we see in present day for the games.

So say they're 30. That would mean that everything that happened surrounding Maligula, her wiping out so many people, her "dying", the Psychonauts organization becoming a thing, etc., that all would have happened when they were around 10, around Raz's age. Now I don't know if Milla had her abilities back then or not (personally I think she didn't discover she was psychic until later in life when she heard the children screaming telepathically during the orphanage fire) but we know that Sasha has had his abilities since he was a kid, we see it in his memory vault when he reads his dad's mind.

So just, imagine being a 10 year old kid and seeing all these news stories about a dangerous psychic, seeing how everyone around you where you live reacts to that, all the while knowing you're a psychic too.

I can't even describe what that could have been like for people in the Psychonauts world.

Hi! Just wanted to ask if you have any tips on character design because the characters I see you draw are super unique and cool! Thanks!

aww thank you!! well I guess what I do is first consider the character's environment, personality and general aesthetic, are they a scholar? put them in a uniform, maybe with eye bags from late night studying, and messy hair from stress pulling, are they a rambunctious desert warrior? give them breathable clothing with light armor, and a hairstyle that reflects their personality!! maybe frizzy hair and tan skin from the sun, and scars from battle. little details like that! also, make sure you give them a design that you can draw a bunch more times. while adding little details is fun, sometimes you'll find yourself having a crazy bout of inspiration where you can't stop adding details, and then you sit down to draw them again, and you can't bring yourself to finish it! (looking at you mihoyo!) minimalistic design choices can be utilized, however! less is more, and big simplistic shapes or style choices can be really eye catching. think of steven universe, while he could wear a shirt with one of his many interests on it in a detailed design, he just has a red shirt with a star, because that's easy to replicate, especially if this character will be animated. the most important thing about character design is making sure that the design and design aspects fit YOUR style and YOUR capabilities, you're the one drawing them after all! there's no wrong way to express yourself! (of course, be mindful of not creating characters that display harmful stereotypes, but thats a whole other conversation), another thing that helps is THEMES. pick a specific thing your character resonates with, a specific aesthetic. stars, flowers, science, computers, bats, gothic, the color blue, fire etc., simple word prompts like that can be a major source of inspiration. most important of all though? HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!! don't worry about what other people think about your characters, it's okay to take design inspiration from different pieces of media, and it's okay to redesign your character as many times as necessary!! trial and error is part of improvement, so be patient with yourself, and the rest will follow!! hope this helps :3
