The reason the third set of Earthspark episodes were such a disappointment to me was that I expected all the plot threads from the previous two thirds of the show to interweave and instead a lot of them were just dropped.

Like why did Optimus need to keep Bumblebee's existence a secret? Why did GHOST think he was dead? And what consequences did Optimus face once GHOST found out Bee was alive? Seemingly none. Optimus showed up so little in the second batch of episodes that I kind of thought they'd retaliated against him and imprisoned or brainwashed him but nah, he's fine and it's never explained why Bumblebee had to fake his own death.

What was the Cybertronians' war initially about? It is unbelievable to me that this wasn't explored. First, it's interesting! Second, it would give us insight into the motivations of the Decepticon ensemble.

The show is a sort of a "what if" AU based on G1, and in G1 the Decepticons were warmongers who wanted to rule the galaxy and enslave everyone. However, if you've read MTMTE you might notice Megatron chiding Shockwave for dismissing the Terrans as "lower class beings" and conclude that the war was about classism. But ultimately the viewer shouldn't have to fill in the blanks from other media. Earthspark should address this within its own show, because the question "Can the Decepticons be trusted, can they be redeemed?" can't be answered without it. Like, if the Decepticons were just The Evil Bad Guys then it wouldn't matter, but if you want them to end up freely walking the Earth then it's extremely important to know if the average 'Con's motivation for joining the army was "I'm standing up for my civil rights" versus "y'know, I just love killing people." Especially since, unlike the easy-breezy G1 cartoon, in Earthspark the TF war resulted in human injuries and deaths.

Shockwave and Soundwave's complicated feelings about Megatron never get resolved or even addressed outside their solo episodes. Which is very odd in a series that put such an emphasis on working out emotional strife, what with the cyber-sleeves and all. In the finale the Decepticons team up with the Autobots and Terrans because Mandroid wants to destroy all robot life: a purely physical threat. And that was a cool fight. But it doesn't resolve any of the emotional baggage. This disappointed me because the emotional fallout of Megatron's side-switch was the most interesting part of the show imo.

Then there was the Starscream episode, which felt like the "Dear Princess Celestia" moral in the last two minutes of a MLP FIM episode without showing how the conflict played out in the previous twenty minutes.

Earthspark got renewed for a second season. (And I'm glad! It has a lot of potential, that's why I was pumped during the first two-thirds!) But they thought they might only get one season, and if that was the case they would have left us with all these dead ends.

I think the bit that's stuck in my head rn is his relationship with Kuai Liang. Like Satoshi and Hanzo's relationship makes sense and i relatively simple (Satoshi: I love you but I think you betrayed and replaced me so I'm gonna hurt you to make myself feel better. Hanzo: I'm so glad you are alive, if you have to kill me I won't fight you, I just want to know that you are well) But with Kuai Liang it is a little more complicated (and also Kuai Liang is my babygirl and I Will fixate on him wherever I can)

So, I think that Satoshi and Kuai Liang were actually quite close in the Lin Kuei, despite the clan frowning on attachments. I think Kuai Liang would have looked at this boy who has seen his parents die in front of him and been kidnapped and he would just see himself. Kuai Liang would probs go out of his way to protect Satoshi as much as he could, taking punishments for him so that Satoshi could escape as much pain as possible.

I think originally I had the idea that Satoshi will have told Kuai Liang about the attack but I've kinda changed my mind on that (tho that is still a fun idea to toy with) and I think it's more tragic if Kuai Liang doesn't know. So later, when he meets and becomes first enemies and then allies with Hanzo, he doesn't know who he is facing.

I also think Satoshi would have a lot of complicated feelings about the Lin Kuei. He'd hate them for what they did, but he'd still be one and I don't think he'd be able to separate who he is from that. Plus, Kuai Liang is kind to him, and I think he'd latch onto that and cling to Kuai Liang as much as possible, which would lead to some guilt on Satoshi's part bc to him it feels like he's trying to replace his parents (hence his rage when he thinks his dad has done the same thing, he's projecting).

Satoshi def tried to run away once and Kuai Liang helped him, leading to them both getting caught and punished (my hc is that if you try to desert the Lin Kuei, they brand you with their sigil and Kuai Liang and Bi-Han tried to run as children so he already has one on his wrist, and now Satoshi has one as well, tho idk where his would be).

After the cyber initiative, Satoshi was able to fake his death and escape, leading to Kuai Liang thinking that he's dead and mourning him. Like, he felt responsible for the kid and tried to take care of him and now he feels like he failed and I don't think he ever forgives himself for that.

Hanzo and Kuai Liang def talk about Satoshi, but they don't know they are talking about the same person. Kuai Liang only knows the kid as dragonfly and so that's who he talks about and Hanzo thinks Satoshi died, so he doesn't pick up on the fact that they are the same person.

After Takeda brings Satoshi home, Satoshi avoids Hanzo as much as possible, sticking to Kuai Liang's side again like he did in the Lin Kuei. Hanzo is really hurt by this but tries to grin and bear it bc he's just glad his son is alive and home again. Kuai Liang kinda gets caught in the middle between his apprentice and his kind-of-but-not-really boyfriend and eventually just forces the two to sit down together and talk their shit out

Missing Persons

Broken glass crunched beneath his boot.

Richard winced. He knew he only had minutes before Magnolia’s boss realised she’d let through an unauthorised civilian, but the scene that was displayed before him was vast. Blood splattered across the motel room’s bland walls, across linen sheets and the shaggy rug. The armchair in the corner had been sliced with, what Richard could only assume, had probably been a knife.

What interested him most, however, was the window that had been broken, the cause of the glass that was scattered around the room.

“What do you make of that, Patrick?” Richard gestured with his pencil towards said broken window.

His new protégé — the former cyber-criminal who was currently attempting to prove to Richard that he was capable of turning his life around, if only to avoid the life sentence that was hanging before him should he fail — stepped into the motel room with a frown.

“Looks like that’s the way the murderer got in.”

“Wrong. We’re two storeys up. A murderer wouldn’t have climbed the drain to smash the window to gain entry.”

“If he was desperate he might.”

“Look at how the glass has fallen.”

Patrick scrutinised the glass again, his frowning deepening as realisation dawned. “… Shit.”

“Rule one of faking your own murder scene: make sure it makes sense.”

For the glass on the floor of the motel room was not in fact glass from the broken window. The trajectory was far too wrong, this displacement incorrect. If Richard were to guess, he’d assume the reflective glass on the floor was in actuality mirror fragments.

“Faking your murder scene? You mean our guy is still out there?”

“Yes.” Richard glumly confirmed. “Paul Metcalfe, what are you playing at?”

hey, it's leverage anon back at it again! do you think roy and keeley crossed paths previously in this au, maybe on opposite sides of a job where roy was hired to protect something keeley was trying to steal (and keeley wins obvi)? or do you think they've only heard of each other through word of mouth and when they actually meet, it's like the spiderman meme with them pointing at each other like "ROY KENT???" "KEELEY???"

I do think that at first it's in the same vein as Ted Lasso, where they know of each other, they've moved in similar circles for years, their names are all over London but they've just never had occasion to meet.

I think the spiderman meme comes screeching into play when they have a Rashomon Job moment where they both realize they foiled each other's heist going after the same golden scepter on the same night and they're both like, "THAT WAS YOU?!!"

In Keeley's defense she was undercover as a waiter so of course she was rocking her Bjork wig with the purple stripe so people wouldn't take a closer look at her face. And there was this guy there, a real proper intellectual type, with the glasses and the sweater, and the look he kept giving her! Piercing eyes, like they could see deep into her soul. She was so rattled that once she went into the vents to make her move, she didn't want to come back out!

In Roy's defense he was at a low place, making the switch from hitting to retrieval specialist, and his hair was like. So long. So curly. Bushy beard. And he was wearing glasses he stole from a guy in the car park (and busy cursing himself because fuck he might actually need glasses), and he had a cozy nerd sweater on so like. Everyone was looking but it wasn't because they were looking for Roy Kent, they were looking for a different reason, you feel?

Meanwhile Rebecca's like "you BOTH were trying to steal my ex-husbands tacky golden scepter under my nose? While I was trying to steal it?" And that confuses Ted because, "If you were already married to him, why would you need to steal it? It's technically yours at that point," and Rebecca is like, "Exactly. I was married to him, Ted. Of course I wanted to steal it."

Meanwhile Beard is just side-eyeing Jamie who ain't said shit.

And the longer Keeley, Rebecca, and Roy go round and round the only thing they agree on is there was this skinny little teenage kid at the museum like on a fucking field trip and he was annoying like he was just constantly underfoot no matter where they went-

"Oh, I know who you mean! He was rather sweet. Kept asking for a glass of champagne- cheeky little thing."

"Was that the one who kept wandering off from the pack? Insufferable. Every time I thought I had an opening, security would interrupt to tell me they found a child wandering into the cordoned off areas. By the time I had a chance to intercept the stupid sceptor, someone had replaced it with a champagne bottle."

No, he was fucking annoying and he dogging Roy's heels and asking Roy questions about Rothko and Hockney ("It's not about the composition. The colors are richer because of the depth of the layers" and "Because he's a twat," respectively). Roy finally thought he got lucky when he nudged the kid towards a buffet table and he started scarfing down food but then the kid almost choked to death and Rebecca does remember that actually she had to take him in the back so they could make sure his parents wouldn't sue have some medical doctor guest take a look at him.

And now Beard and Ted are both just looking at Jamie, and Ted has a bit of a smile on his face, and he's just like, "Jamie? Do you have anything you want to share with the class?"

Jamie winces and admits it was his one and only cyber heist - drawing up a fake school record to get in with a field trip, writing a little program that would temporarily disable the security cameras and motion sensors- he'd done it as a dare to himself to see if he could do it. And- "I never technically stole it. Got as far as stashing it in my school bag, and then the bag went missing. Lost my homework and everything."

And now it's Ted's turn to look apologetic, "Well I am awfully sorry about your homework, but let me tell you- that essay you wrote on Napoleon? Really good stuff. If I was your teacher, I'd have given you an A."

And that's the record scratch moment because Ted? Turns out he was the """medical doctor""" who volunteered to go with Jamie, but was actually there to keep an eye on things for his old security company.

Also they shouldn't beat themselves up to bad about losing because the scepter was a fake. See, once he found it ("in a highschooler's backpack no less!" "no, Ted, we don't call them that here") he got to thinking that the whole thing was mighty suspicious so he did what any normal midwest man would do if he thought he was being taken for a fool -- he called up a friend he knew who'd been to prison and asked if there was a way to tell if gold was fake.

"Lick it."

"Pardon?"

"Lick the scepter. If it's real gold you'll be able to tell."

"...Okay, but for the record I just want it to be acknowledged how much trust exists in this relationship."

And that's how they all (failed) to steal Rupert Mannion's (fake) golden scepter (what a twat).

I've been thinking of that one piece you did with Faux putting on the Cyberhead esp what u put in the tags abt the idea that Faux comes back as Red postgame. I usually go with the theory/HC that an ai was made for red but your idea is super interesting.

like it would make sense for Faux to go by Red now bc outside of the law/police force the BRC, DJ Cyber/Futurism and the other rival crews most likely hate his guts now ( along with like the civilians that had to witness the events of the storymode ) i'd love to learn more abt this au/headcanon btw!

eyyy! i also share the hc that red comes back with an ai, its pretty neat! i kinda swap between the red ai hc and the red!faux one to be honest

i started thinking more about faux and just his overall situation and read waaay too deep into his character/actions so i became this while thinking about the hc/au

ill slap it under a readmore, unsure if its considered spoilers but it is post-game

so the idea is that after the game escher finds faux's head/body and put him back together. the two talk it out, and he gives faux the option to start new, much like how he did with red earlier in the game. knowing this is his last chance to finally get rid of his roots; to finally get away from the police, he takes it.

knowing that everyone hates him or is after him he dons a fake cyberhead from escher and starts a new identity. he hides away from everyone and never talks, not wanting to get close to anyone and be betrayed again (or to get involved with others, he doesnt need another target on his back). he slowly changes into a person who enjoys being a writer for the sake of it again like he used to, the chains of his past slowly coming off of him.

does he end up running into BRC or the other gangs later on? possibly, im unsure on how that would play out, although he might be given a chance if he seemed genuine in wanting to/has changed. (thats assuming they figure out its faux in the first place)

🥰 Oscar Wars: A History of Hollywood in Gold, Sweat, and Tears (Michael Schulman, author; Charlie Thurstonn, narrator) - definitely interesting and an enjoyable read. What mainly struck me was that things now are pretty much same as it ever was: the producers have always been horrible to the talent; the academy, despite two serious efforts to course correct, has always been conservative/racist/misogynist, etc.

Prologue: A faded memory

" What do I think about Cyber city? " the figure looks down, it's voice filled with uncertainty. The room is dark, the only light coming though a pair of window curtains in the middle of the room.

" I...I don't know...it's hard to say.." The figure shuffles around the room in a hurry, grabbing things here and there. The shuffling finally stops when they reach the window. " Cyber city used to be full of life...but now it's all gone.." they look almost depressed when mentioning this.

The figure opens up the curtains and the light shines though and hits multiple places in the room with the seemingly always night light. The light shines onto the unknown figure, it's yellow feathers and fur glowing in the light. They look outside at the dead city and lay their hands upon the window sill. The faint sounds of crying can be heard though out the room, almost like an echo.

The yellow figure weeps silently to itself in the half dark room as it hangs its head down low. There tears falling onto the window sill. They look back up at the dead city, the once happy memories coming back to them like a title wave. Crashing into them and ripping into them deep. They cry out more upon looking out onto the city.

" It was once full of life..full of love...full of hope...but..she..but she..! " The voice gets angrier as it speaks, it grips the window sill tightly in their hands.

" We Addison's aren't treated the same at all! It's not fair...we get treated like scum, like..like we don't even exist! " They throw there hands up into the air in a fit of rage. Their voice is hurt and angry, they grumble and hit their hands down hard on the window sill.

" GOD DAMMIT! " They yell and kick the wall in front of them.

They weep quietly to themselves again, the tears staining there face. " I'm so sick and tired of us Addison's being abused! queen has used us for to long..." they wipe their nose with the sleeve of the shirt. Their breathing becomes in regular and shaky. " The lightner's are our last hope...if they don't save us...we don't have any other chance against Queen. She'll kill us instantly! "

" B-but once she's down...I hope that bitch burns in hell..." they turn around and head for the door, but before they do they look outside the window one more time before finally turning the doorknob and walking outside.

The outside air is cool and damp, the wind is slow but cold. They close the door and sigh while looking down.

" Yellow? Are you okay? " A unknown voice says. Yellow jumps and flinch's. " Ahh! Oh-...it's just you Veronica..." Yellow catches his breath as he turns to face Veronica.

Yellow rubs the back of his neck and fake smiles at Veronica, trying to hide the fact he just had a mental breakdown in his apartment. " Yeah i-im fine...why do you ask? " He cocks an eyebrow in confusion.

The bright pink Addison's across from Yellow rolls her eyes and walks over towards Yellow. Veronica's outfit consists of a pink and black strapless zebra top, a puffy black skirt, fluffy black leg warmers with black boots underneath, and some necklaces and bracelets. Her hair is puffy, like a type of hairstyle you would see in the 80s. She has black eye shadow on with black eyeliner and some blush, she shakes her head in some sort of disappointment.

" Really? I know that you're not fine, clearly I can see you faking that smile." She sighs and touch's the bridge of her nose.

Yellow sighs and nods " Yeah...your right...sorry.." He rubs his arm though his leather jacket as he looks down slightly ashamed for trying to put on an act.

" Were you crying?! " Veronica asks concerned for her friend, she takes a step forward and reaches her hand out to Yellow. " Hey, what happened in there? You okay? " Veronica rubs Yellow's back.

He nods and touch's his face " Oh-...I guess my face is still pretty red and stained..." he chuckles sadly.

" No, just stained. " Veronica replies in a caring and motherly tone.

" Ah- gotcha..." he looks down and away from Veronica in shame before looking back up at her. He fidgets with his hands for a moment while looking at Veronica.

" Is there something you want Yell- " the air is taken out of Veronica as Yellow hugs her with all his might, he cry's into her.

" Hey there, it's okay.." she rubs Yellow's head. " Do you have everything you need before we go? We can't come back here once we leave you know that right?" Veronica asks to make sure that Yellow knows the plan.

Yellow nods and looks up at his apartment " Yeah...I have everything..." He sounds dead and defeated. " It's not safe here for us..." Veronica says. " It's not safe anyway, for us.. " Yellow replies in a harsh tone as he walks past Veronica. " can we go now? I really don't feel like waiting around to be turned into a mindless slave..."

" Don't say that Yellow!" Veronica scolds him. " Don't think like that! " Yellow rolls his eyes at her " Yeah...whatever.. " Yellow messes around in his pocket until he finds a lighter and a cigarette, he lights it. " Since when did you start smoking?! " Veronica asks shocked and surprised.

" Since the world went to shit..." he takes a drag of it and coughs " Jesus...how does Blue mange to smoke these fuckers.." Yellow throws the half lit cigarette on the ground and stomps on it, putting it out. " Blue gave you that?" Veronica's puzzled, she walks over to Yellow. " No, I stole it off of him...didn't think he mind since he buys them like there nothing...what's a few missing huh?" He chuckle and stumbles a bit before he gets his bearings.

He sighs and shoves his hands in his pockets " Let's move our asses before Queen gets them.." He laughs and looks over at Veronica, she doesn't look very pleased. " Oohhh come on! That was funny! No? " He smiles and nudges her in the side with his elbow. Veronica rolls her eyes and follows Yellow " I agree, we should get moving before Queen goes on one of her hunts again...Cyber club is that way.." she points west. " It's behind one of the alleyways, there's no way Queen will fine us there."

Yellow nods and starts to follow Veronica's in the direction she pointed at. All that can be heard is there foot steps on the sold concrete and the wind blowing though the air.

Do you have any details about your Swap and Fell aus? I am curious about it!

Hey, sorry it took so long for me to respond to this. I had meant to answer way sooner and then I got sucked into other projects and meant to work more on this and then just… forgot. But I’m here now and I’m just gonna sum it up as best I can. It may be a bit scatterbrained, so I apologize in advance. 

It's been a while since I’ve worked with them, but I can give a basic rundown on them! They’re part of my “False AU Trio.” In which all the AU names have a prefix that means or implies “fake” so people know upfront they’re different from the typical swaps and fells on purpose. 

QUASISWAP

With QuasiSwap, my personal twist on it is in the environment. In QS, it’s not just the characters that swap, the area aesthetics swap too. 

-The Ruins become monochrome like New Home and are now called “Old Home.” 

-Snowdin Forest/Snowdin became cybernetic like The CORE and is now called “Loggedin.” 

-Waterfall is still dark, but instead of pretty cyan waters it’s now crimson red magma making this location “Magmafalls.” 

-Hot Land is now “Hot Springs” due to its proximity to Magmafalls heating up the water. 

-The CORE is now called “The Nexus” which is not a name that means much of anything, but it is VERY cold here. CDResort (MTT Resort) is actually built somewhat inside The Nexus because CDR likes the cold better than the hot. 

-And finally New Home- which I can’t remember the fun name for- is purple and plant covered like the Ruins. It might just be called "The Capital" sorta like how "The Ruins" is very self-explanatory as a name.

Character swaps are about what you’d expect. And while they all have codenames, they call each other by their real names with a few exceptions. Those exceptions are the skelebros and the ghosts, but I will list all swaps and codenames below.

-Chara with Frisk. Code named Chipper and Fable. Chipper because they’re generally a happy kid- usually smiling and Fable because you hear stories about them. 

-Asgore with Toriel. Code named Usher and Arch. Usher because he’s the one guiding Chipper through the Ruins and Arch is short for monarch.

-Papyrus with Sans. Their code names are P and CSG, and while it’s rare for anyone to actually call Sans CSG, it’s a lot more common for people to call Papyrus P. This is because my take on Swap Sans is basically just Brian David Gilbert- BDG for short. For an example of the energy this swap sans has, watch this compilation I found on YouTube.

-Alphys with Undyne. Codenamed Alpha and Psi-- after Greek letters. Alpha cause she’s a leader and Psi cause it looks like a trident and also is used as a symbol for “Water potential in movement of water between plant cells,” says wikipedia. 

-The Ghost Cousin Trio does a Rotation Swap. Napstablook takes Mettaton’s role, their name becomes CD Rob and Cyber Duke [REMIX] depending on their form. (While “duke” is typically a masculine word, CDR is still a nonbinary character. Duke is just a title I chose.) Mettaton takes Mad Dummy’s/Mad Mew Mew’s Role and is called Shining Dummy and Shining Wan Wan after possessing a life-sized vocaloid-style statue. (He becomes a dog boy instead of a cat girl.) And Maddy takes Napstablook’s Role, known to her friends as Rabbit, but her full name is Rabenant (A port-man-teau of Rabid Revenant.) These three go by these names in the story.

-Flowey/Asriel is too important to swap roles with anyone. He still changes, however. Instead of saying “Howdy” like Asgore he says “Greetings” like Toriel. And instead of a golden flower, he’s a crimson flower to match up to the red leaf aesthetic the Ruins have in the actual game. Flowey’s codename is “Leaf” and apparently I never gave Asriel a proper codename in this AU. I’ll give him one later.

-Temmie gets swapped with the Annoying Dog because both of these characters represent an actual person and it’s good to remember that Temmie- while not the creator of Undertale- made a lot for the game. 

PSEUDOFELL

PseudoFell is interesting, because instead of the codenames being an out of universe thing for me to differentiate who I’m talking about, the pseudonyms are actually a feature of the AU. Every pseudonym (should) start with the same letter as the character’s real name. 

Fray (Frisk)*, Facet (Flowey), Treason (Toriel)**, Sin (Sans), Punishment (Papyrus)***, Uproar (Undyne), Naething (Napstablook), Mauled Doll (Maddy), Macabre (MTT), Apathy (Alphys), Agony (Asgore), Axiom (Asriel), and Cairn (Chara). 

*Used to be spelled Frey, but I have since changed to the correct spelling.

**Considering changing her name.

***Sin will absolutely shorten Punishment’s name to “Pun” and he HATES it. 

As a bonus, Annoying Dog and the Tems are Toil and Trouble. AD used to be Toil, but I think AD being Trouble while all the Tems are Toils would be better. They can say “TOi!” and I have no doubt that Pun would consider AD to be nothing but Trouble. 

The reason the pseudonyms happen is because of trust issues and an old belief that giving someone your real name gives them some sort of power over you. Therefore, if someone actually trusts you enough to tell you their full name, it’s a real big deal. 

The main difference, however, is that I’ve introduced a special 2nd form monsters can take called a “Phobos Form.” The Phobos Form is typically a sharper, scarier version of the monster. Final Froggit would be the Phobos form of Froggit in this universe rather than a stronger, separate monster. 

The more powerful a monster is, the bigger, scarier, and stronger their Phobos Form is. The bosses in the game basically become Kaijus. I used to have concept art of these Phobos forms-- and you can still find them if you look hard enough-- but I find them to be… not great designs these days and would rather not present them as if they’re definitely canon to my AUs still. 

FAUXSWAPFELL 

You didn’t ask about this one, but of the trio I have talked about this one the least so you may not have known it existed. 

FauxSwapFell takes the location swaps of QuasiSwap and the pseudonyms and phobos forms of PseudoFell and combines them into one AU. 

The character swaps are mostly the same, however the Ghost Cousin rotation swap rotates counter to the QuasiSwap rotation. So Mad Mew Mew becomes the idol, Mettaton becomes the ghost snail farmer, and Napstablook becomes the dummy/doll. 

The other thing is that rather than becoming big scary kaijus, the Phobos Forms in FauxSwapFell are more like cryptids or scary on an unsettling level. Some forms may not have one distinct shape and shift between two forms. 

As for the pseudonyms in this AU, there is no theme for the characters’ names. Sans and Papyrus are named Neon and Argon in this universe and are color coded orange and purple respectively to match the colors of those two noble gases. (Gaster is Krypton and Corsiva- if you know who that OC is- is Xenon.) 

All this being said, most characters in this AU don’t have a codename yet. This is the least developed of the 3 AUs and the only reason it’s developed at all is because of being a combo of the other two. 

On the subject of color schemes, in my head the whole world is really desaturated except for the bright pops of color the characters have like Neon’s orange or Argon’s purple. Because of this I sometimes refer to FauxSwapFell as "Swapfell NEON" because they only standout colors on the characters are the bright highlight color.

Aaaaaand that's about it for now. I'd love to do more someday, but at the moment I sadly don't have time to really do much of anything with these AUs. There is a glimmer of hope that the overtime at work will end soon, so maybe I'll be able to get back into fun fanworks next year. Until then, thank you for listening~
