#DID THEY EVER TALK ABOUT WHAT BRUCE DID FOR GOTHAM OTHER THAN BEING BATMAN

do you think dick grayson feels the weight of the world sometimes do you think he lays awake at night in his tiny shitty apartment in bludhaven and thinks about how he's the one who taught bruce wayne- who taught BATMAN how to really feel and love again and how every single robin after him is his responsibility because of that ? do you think he sits at family dinners with the whole extended batfamily and thinks "i did this" because he was the first ? do you think he sees some new teen hero and is terrified for them because he was them back when he wasn't around to be looked up to ? because he was the first ? do you ever think about how he wasn't only the first robin but the first kid hero ? and every fight he won he proved that other kids could too and do you think he regrets that ?? knowing how many terrified children there are fighting wars that shouldn't be theirs to fight ???? do you think he is also so incredibly proud of all of them in a way only he can because he Came First ??????
i think he does
do you think it drives a wedge between him and the entire world ? do you think jason sees him on some rooftop in gotham and thinks about sitting down next to him but doesn't because of all the years of distance and arguments and despite everything that's ROBIN sitting there ? the original ? and how jason never would have been robin if dick hadn't proved that robin was more than a child soldier in an adults war ?? with all that between them what could jason say compared to everyone's golden boy, the perfect child, the original boy wonder ???? do you think tim ever gets over his hero worship ? or is there a split second everytime where he goes Holy shit ! it's Nightwing !! Nightwing is talking to me !!!! even after everything that dicks put him through and all the empty space between them that tim never imagined would be there ? do you think that's just the effect that dick has on people where no matter what you can't help but look at him in awe, like he's superhuman ?
do you ever think about how he was an ordinary kid ? he could have been anyone . do you think about if he was anyone else he likely would not have made it and someone else would have had to fight all the battle he did, to survive, to be taken seriously, to figure out how to breathe and live and be the light instead of being smothered in batman's shadow ??? do you think about how he was the first kid hero but he was still just a kid growing up and fighting with his dad, and moving away and making new friends and falling in love and he was still the first kid hero and he was never just a kid . he was the leader of the first kids hero team . he's never just been a kid . do you think he regrets that it was him ??? do you think when batman died he regretted everything, every single thing? i don't think he did . do you think that when he was batman, and raising batman's son the way bruce raised him, the way alfred raised bruce (always raising someone elses son) he saw himself in all the anger and the reckless way damian would throw himself into fights, in a desperate way to prove himself the only way he CAN ?? do you think dick remembers being 10 and sad and angry and needing someone else to be hurt so that it wasn't just him ??? do you think that dick regrets making damian robin because of how it forces him to look at how he himself has grown and how much robin has changed from what he made it ??? i don't think he does . do you think he ever apologies to tim ? i don't think he knows how, i think he finds himself staring at their texts and wondering what words would have fixed his hurt when bruce fired him and kicked him out . and i think he decides time and space is what did it, so time and space will do it again . i think it's the wrong decision . i think they both regret it later . do you ever think about how bruce might have tried but at the end of the day everyone went to dick because he was easier to talk to ?
do you think about how he made the hard decisions like batman did, and he lost his parents like batman did, and he grew up in a massive empty house with an emotionally distant father who tried his hardest but still felt oceans away, like batman did, and he decided to be the light where batman decided to be the shadows ? he decided he wouldn't let it break him like batman did, but batman chose to become something to fear and nightwing has always been more hopeful, brighter, flashier . do you think about how in the middle of the night young people unaccustomed to the manor might end up in dicks room instead of bruce's ? because there's always a piece of bruce that stays batman, even when he takes the cowl off ? do you think about how dick understands because he was a young person unaccustomed to the manor, standing outside bruce's bedroom absolutely terrified to go in ? and how he was the first, and all he and bruce had were eachother ?
do you think about how hard they've worked since then to make sure that no one else will be alone the way they were ? and how dick is able to help with all the younger kids when bruce can't, or won't because to a child those are the same things ?? do you think about how dick must have read the same parenting books that bruce had in his office after bruce died when he was stuck and drowning and grieving and there was a child down the hall he didn't know how to protect ???? do you think dick and bruce were closer after he came back ?? do you think that just for a moment there was an echo of their past partnership in the way they were able to read eachother ?? do you think about how dick has had a hand in raising most of the other bat kids ??? because he was the first . and he was proof it was possible to live with batman and survive it ??
because i think about it . All The Time .

Damn, Dick didn't even hesitate with that. I mean, he's not wrong, Bruce spent those years traveling the world and obsessing single-mindedly over becoming the perfect fighter to be able to protect Gotham, he never allowed himself friends or teammates or truly relying on anyone but himself, he never got the teenager experience. He was a teenager, but he doesn't know anything about being a teenager, and that's sad, but it also means that Dick has to remind him that he's not the same, for all the weirdness that is Dick Grayson's life as Robin, he still grabs onto the concept of friends and hanging out and doing teenager things. Which makes Bruce's reactions all the more meaningful--he's always viewed Dick through the lens of being similar to himself just a little too much, sometimes Bruce has trouble letting go of that view of him, that they're mirror images of each other, especially when it overlaps with how this kid brought light and laughter and joy to Wayne Manor and Bruce's life, how hard it is for Bruce to love him and let him go, because he's never gotten that experience, either. Everyone Bruce Wayne has ever loved was either ripped away from him in bloody tatters or he's held onto them with an iron fist. Dick Grayson is the first one he's had to willingly open his hands with, and it's hard as hell when he never had or wanted those normal teenage experiences, when he never wanted to be the leader of a team of friends, when he doesn't want to open his heart to people who can be ripped away from him again. He never had the chance to learn how to do it like most people do. But he does do it. Because he also wants Dick to be better than him, the whole point of taking Dick in was to help him not be what Bruce is, to save him from that. And he has to let Dick make his choices, have his friends, let him go, even just a little, even when Bruce doesn't understand the appeal of wanting friends to just hang out with, he sees that Dick needs that, and so he asks, did your decision save lives? Yes. Will you do it again? Not without talking to you first. Then one month without the uniform. This moment is told from Dick's point of view, we don't know what's going on Bruce's head, but it's not a hard to leap to see that it's hitting every single exposed nerve he has--his secrets are what allow him to be Batman, this kid he let into his heart is slowly starting to step out on his own and go away from him, he did it without talking to Bruce first--that he's being asked to open his iron fisted grip to keep everything he treasures close. And still Bruce Wayne uncurls his clenched fingers just enough, against every instinct he has, and lets go a little, praising Dick for doing a better job than he could as he goes.

A Stupid Batfam AU
Jason’s and Bruce’s rocky relationship is actually a pr move to make sure the rest of the batfam doesn’t get attacked by reporters and gcpd.
Essentially Red Hood, while liked by the Crime Alley citizens and other citizens as well, has a pretty bad reputation with a lot of the rest of the city. The GCPD hate him for his overt violence and the head incident. The Media hates him cause he’s what they all feared Batman would become and are constantly creating news stories on him. A lot of the other citizens are just scared of him cause sometimes his temper gets out of control. It’s not the best reputation.
Bruce and Jason have long since talked and settled their differences. Well, it’s more of a “I don’t approve of your methods but I will acknowledge you as a person who wants to help, but I will still dislike the guns. Also I missed you” from Bruce and “I’m not happy with a lot of your decisions but I also understand why you came to those decisions. I’m still mad but I now know that you missed me and I missed you too” from Jason. They’re better than they were originally and honestly that’s all they could hope for. Jason visits the manor more and is having fun being brothers to Dick and Tim.
Here’s the thing though… his reputation as Red Hood may have accidentally spread to the other Bats. A few team ups here and there (and the red bat on his chest) have made everyone assume that Batman is now working with Red Hood, a known crime lord. The media and GCPD were on them like flies on shit. Jim tries to calm down the gcpd with mixed results, but he can’t stop the media from blowing this out of proportion. It’s like the news channels from Dark Knight Returns, but worse.
Jason, who just got his family back, is fucking pissed. Jason is also dramatic as hell. Bruce was willing to just deal with this, but Tim is too new at this to be caught in the crossfire. Bruce was just gonna bench him out of fear until things calm down (he’s dealt with this before) but Jason brings up his plan to Bruce. Bruce isn’t as dramatic as Jason, however he is still absolutely dramatic. He agrees. So begins an epic fight between two ideals that ends two vigilantes at each other’s throats constantly.
Red Hood and Batman fight any time they are together, Red Hood is arrested by Batman on multiple occasions, and Red Hood always escapes leaving terrifying threats spray painted where the bat can see. (Jason and Bruce give each others shit for the pot shots they take and Bruce compliments Jason’s form when he gets a good hit in, Bruce gives Jason a heads up to the easier ways to get out of a police car and Jason ignores him going for the most dramatic ways, Bruce complains that the code Jason uses for his threats are obvious and he can just ask Alfred himself for cookies, why does Bruce have to be the middle man.)
The super hero community doesn’t really know this (cause they can be pretty bad actors at times, says Bruce) tis can cause problems. Superman and Green Arrow capturing Red Hood. Batman had to pull the “he’s Gotham’s problem give him to me,” which led to a hour of arguing to get Jason back. Tim’s friend have Red Hood on their hit list for what Hood did to Robin (Tim is over it but he does use this as a way to get back at his brother when he pisses him off) and Red Hood has to be on the Villain List to sell the act, so every hero ever knows the Red Hood is a villain. This leads to chaos.
There are still rough moments where Bruce and Jason still fight, but it’s better. Jason gets to hang out and play games with Tim. He plans overly dramatic fights with Dick (with full plot cause these two are so extra.) He helps Alfred in the kitchen again talking about books they’ve both read. He and Bruce talk again, they talk about their fears and what they’ve missed. It’s better, and that’s all that really matters.

Why is it always Robin has to prove himself to Batman? Be it any Robin. And no, I'm not talking about characters, because Bruce—Bruce is like “Everyone must prove themselves to me but I'm not answerable to anyone” that motherfucker. Very IC.
I'm talking about stories, about narratives—why does every Robin-centric narrative has a “prove themselves to Batman” arc—but Bruce's arc never involves proving himself to anyone?
Why, after the events of the Tower of Babel, Bruce didn't have to work to gain the Justice League's approval? Why didn't he have to work to redeem himself, dammit!
Yes. He had to reveal his identity. But then, it wasn't his idea. It was Clark's. It's fundamentally different from Dick unmasking in front of the Titans: Dick feels in his bones that it isn't fair that he's the only one masked and the Titans are up for mutiny, so he made an executive decision.
It didn't even occur to Bruce to do it. Dammit, the fucker wasn't even trying to get back into Justice League. Clark had to persuade him. And no, I don't mean he should have gone and begged them to let him in. He doesn't need them.
But let's be honest: none of the Leaguers need the League. But humanity does. That's why they put their differences aside and band together.
Bruce is selfless when it comes to sacrificing his family a la Batman : Ego. Oh!—it's Bruce's children that are dying in Batman's mission. Isn't he so noble?—the picture of tragedy? The greiving father? The man who can't even have a steady romantic relationship because Batman wouldn't let him? So selfless—until he isn't. Until the JL—in other words, a planet full of people—need him to swallow his pride. Then, he isn't selfless anymore.
He's selfless when he's a father sending his children to war for the greater good—but he's not selfless when it's time to swallow his pride, to take the risk of trusting someone even after being traumatised and betrayed—for the greater good. (And honestly his trust issues seem narcissistic when surrounded by people like Dick, Alfred and freaking Commissioner Gordon!)
You know who does it? Dick Grayson. That's who. The “trust no one” maxim has been drilled into him by Bruce, but even then he chooses to trust. Not because he's stupid, but because it's a requirement. He totally expects to be stabbed in the back; he isn't naïve. But he'd rather be betrayed than have someone be barred from help because they seemed suspicious. It's canon in Titans. He says it in words, look it up. To Brother Blood, I guess.
Bruce didn't have to work to get on the League's good side. He just had to reveal his ID to regain trust and that, too, was Clark's idea.
And that's not an attempt at redemption, because if it was, then why did Clark have to do it too? Clark didn't do anything to deserve it. But Bruce forces him to and Clark agrees: for the greater good that the League trusting each other would ensure.
Clark Kent, who chooses to forego a mask so that people trust him. Literally, it comes down to that. Who has to built his whole civilian life around the fact that he shows his bare fucking face to the whole world.
And honestly, if I were to throw genre convention aside and read the text the hard way, Bruce doesn't seem really all that bothered with keeping his ID a secret. He's nothing compared to Clark. I mean. Come on, look at the number of people who know Bruce's ID and the number that know Clark's and tell me. Fucking tell me who's more serious about that stuff.
Bruce's entire existence hinges on other characters’ kindness, in and out of universe. In-universe there's this massive brigade of people who know his ID and keep it a secret. Out of universe, writers who show him to be the best even though Clark, Diana, Dick are all more worthy than him.
This is what you get when you let little incels run creative industries.
What did Bruce ever have to do to redeem himself to anyone? Literally anyone? Bruce would let Gotham burn if it meant he keeps his colossal pride intact. But oh, send his children to die: woe is him, this greiving father, so tragique—would absolutely do that.
He isn't even a hero. You know the impact of Batman: Ego and BtAS pales when put next to his very selfish acts when it comes to himself.
Because always—ALWAYS—the uwu factor in Bruce's stories aren't personal.
Not like it's in Clark's who has to face xenophobia because he's an alien. He's natural existence—his powers that are a part of him existing—being called a threat. He still helps.
Not like Diana who comes to the Man's World and decides to stay behind despite it being, well, a Man's World. That would never really respect her as much as it respects a man, any man, even though she's a literal Goddess. Coming and staying in Man's World for her means loneliness. Being immortal and watching every friend she ever made become a memory. But she chose to do it. Because at the end of the day, it's not about her. It's about helping people.
But for Bruce, in true male-is-default fashion, it's about losing people. People he loves.
His parents' death, Jason's death and so on and so forth. I'm not saying losing someone is not painful. I'm just saying it's always about his manpain.
Making the victim's pain his.

All along the watchtower (dp x dc)
Clark is walking alongside Batman through the halls of the watchtower. Their steps echo in the long halls, and Clark has a fleeting thought he really doesn't want to be late.
"Where are we going?" Bruce turns towards Clark to ask.
"To the meeting," Clark answers confusedly, because if Batman isn't attending an official meetings, he is at the very least aware of every single one of them.
"There's something wrong," the Gotham vigilante says as he starts to slow their pace.
"What? Bruce, we have to go or we'll be late," Clark answers but still slows alongside the other man.
"No," The bat states. "No, there's something wrong."
"We can talk about it once we get to the meeting," Clark tries, tempted to tug at the other man but he knows better.
"What meeting?" Bruce is now completely stopped.
"What do you mean what meeting?" Clark is trying his best to be patient but they are going to be late and he hates being late.
"I mean what is the meeting about? Who's going to be there?" Batman narrows his eyes at him.
"It's-" Clark stops himself. "Uh," he lets out before shrugging embarrassedly. "I guess I wasn't paying enough attention last week."
"I can't remember either," Bruce says simply and that has Clark frowning. The batman rarely forgets anything, and that goes doubly for Justice League matters and meetings. Clark turns his head to look around him and notices it for the first time.
"Where is everyone?" he says. The watchtower isn't infinite and though there aren't that people manning it usually, when there's a meeting, it's more lively. They should have walked past someone by now, or at least heard someone.
"I don't know," Bruce says. "I can't remember how we got here."
Clark tries to remember anything before them walking in the hallway but comes up with nothing. He can't even tell how long they were walking. "Me neither," he admits.
Bruce nods before twirling around and walking away.
"Where are you going?" Clark asks as he follows.
"The com center," Batman says without turning. Clark says silent as he walks up to his side. There is nothing but the sound of their footsteps to accompany them on the way and they make it to the bay without seeing anyone.
Once there, Bruce sits down in front of the control while Clark looks out through the large windows into the deep darkness of space. From the corner of his eye he sees a movement within the watchtower and he turns his head to look. For a split-second he sees a shadow of something that looks like a woman before it's gone.
"Did you see that?" Clark asks, his heart rate hitching up.
Bruce looks up and around but coming up with nothing looks back at the other man. "What?"
Clark trusts his senses, a lot more than what most people do, but this is different. "Nothing," he says.
The batman just squints but Clark offers no further information. Tense silence settles back as Bruce slowly turns back to his station and resumes once more.
Then, there's a deep rumbling that sounds out. Clark puts a hand on Bruce's shoulder who straightens. It lasts a few seconds, sounding like to a low growl that reverberates in the chest before it stops.
"Bruce," Clark starts. "Bruce, that came from outside."
"Sound doesn't travel in space," Bruce refutes but his shoulders are tense.
"I know," Clark answers, eyes stuck into the dark expanse of space.
And as he looks and looks he sees the stars starting to blink out, one by one, like candles in the wind. It's like a trickle of stars being snuffed out slowly and then it starts going faster and faster. And simultaneously, there's a sound like wind flowing that starts up.
"Clark," Bruce's voice is as measured as ever but Clark recognizes the tension in it, the fear. The wind picks up.
The darkness is gaining faster and faster, whole chunks of space getting blacked out like someone drew a heavy curtain over them and the wind is whistling by now and then it's all darkness.
"Clark," Bruce repeats.
"I don't know," Clark answers, helpless.
Just as he finishes speaking, every screen lights up a neon, acidic green and the wind is howling in their ears and it shouldn't be possible because there's no wind here there's only vacuum it hurts it hurts and then it's silence. The green is gone.
They are alone in the dark.

“No.”
“This was not a question, Dick.”
“Still the answer is no.”
When Bruce called Dick to the batcave and explained to him his role in the plan The Batman masterminded, Dick felt like laughing.
At first.
Until he realised that Bruce was being absolutely serious with wanting his oldest son to get into a fake relationship with a girl named Sienna. Apparently, she was loosely connected with one of the Gotham’s crime lord and this was a way to get to her relative. It was crazy and to say the least, Dick felt offended at the mere thought of going through with this horrendous idea.
“I’m not a piece of meat, Bruce! And we can’t use an innocent girl for your scheming!”
“but we will.”
“Come on!” Dick threw his hands in the air in pure frustration
“Is this about this little journalist you met?” Bruce grunted at his son “What was her name again? Y/N?”
Dick sighed. He could keep on denying, pretending that he had no idea what Bruce was talking about but there was no point. And maybe, maybe, admitting that he felt something for Y/N would made his adoptive father soften?
“Yes…..” he admits
“Forget about her.”
“What?!”
“You heard me Dick.”
“But…..”
“You have duties to this city.”
“But….!”
“Enough Dick.  There are lives at stake. You have to think like Nightwing, not like Dick Grayson, now. Do you want people to die?”
“Please….. Bruce…. Ask someone else for this…. Please….” He tried to bargain, but he knew well enough it was a lost cause. Who else could possibly do the job? Jason?
“End of discussion. “
***
Dick was torn. On one hand he wanted to protect people and get whatever criminal was on the loose down. On the other he also wanted Y/N. It didn’t matter he barely met her. The feelings she gave him were incomparable with anything else. He wanted her with intensity he never thought possible. He knew he couldn’t just go and forget about her. Not with her pretty smile and pretty eyes and her messy hair and her positive energy.
So-
The only option was to play on both fields.
***
“Oh, God! I am so sorry! I swear I can be so clumsy sometimes……”
He choose the most cliché way to become acquainted with Sienna. He simply went to the same coffee shop she did every day and accidentally  bumped into her, spilling coffee all over. Of course, it was iced coffee, he wouldn’t risk anyone getting burned.
“Oh, please, it was me! I really should have been watching where I was going!” she retorted
“How about I offer you coffee as a form of compensation?” he grinned
“You just gave me one!” Sienna laughed and Dick couldn’t help but be positively surprised by her sense of humour. “I wouldn’t mind a little snack, thought….. Had a hell of a day and forget to have lunch….”
“Well I can’t really let a pretty girl like you starve.” Dick ginned.
“Oh, so now I am pretty girl?” she raised an eyebrow “you sure you bumped into me because you’re clumsy?”
“Who said clumsy and lucky cannot go in pair?”
Maybe this mission would be nicer than he thought……

He found Sienna amusing and charming. But it was still just for vigilante purposes and his eyes were on Y/N. They were. Truly. And to prove it to himself, one day out of the blue he decided to show up at her work, unannounced with the biggest flower bouquet ever. Causing a little bit of commotion and making a show amongst Y/N’s co-workers.
“Hey Y/N….” he smiled, his silhouette barely visible from the grand bunch of forget-me-nots.
“Dick?” her eyes grew wide at the sight in front of him. “It’s not my birthday…..”
“Can’t I just give a little gift to my favourite girl? For no reason? ”
“You’re just unbelievable” she chuckled shaking her head. “and I bet the blue flowers were chosen for no reason…..”
“Sh! You’re gonna blew my cover Y/N!”
“Mhm. Because of the colour of the plants….. As if that were the craziest thing that may uncover your secret identity.”
“And who’s unbelievable now?’ she narrowed his eyes, leaning forward and trying to kiss her.
“Nah uh….” She chuckles pulling back. “not at work….”
“Y/N!” he whined
“not at work.” She insisted
“Come over tonight then….” Dick begged. “Please… I need you
 “Tonight you say?”
“please, baby……”
“Wayne gala.” She simply said
“I’m sorry, what?” those two words threw him back into reality “what are you talking about?”
“You little pea brain…..” she cooed, brushing hair out of his forehead and ruffling his mop. “It’s the night of Annual Wayne Gala. Don’t tell me you forgot?” his silence was enough of an answer. “I was seconded for the press coverage. Work night for me.”
“Doesn’t mean we cannot have some fun together later on…..” Dick grabbed her hand, intertwined their fingers and caressing her skin. The gesture was innocent but his eyes were shining with a predatory gaze leaving no room for doubts of what he really meant.
“Are you absolutely sure we can hide from Bruce’s watchful gaze?”
“It’s a big Manor….” Dick smiled suggestively, leaning closer to her “come on, baby. You keep me waiting for so long now…..”
“The famous Dick Grayson, the heartbreaker and forever the bachelor is begging for a girl?”
“Not just any girl…” he smirked “you.” Without any warning he closed the gap between them, kissing her softly with all the feelings he had for her. He loved her. Her loved her…. He loved her, right? “Y/N…” he tangled hand in her hair and brought her closer, not caring who might see them at her work. And apparently, at this point, neither did she. “Come on….” He brushed his lips over her cheek and jaw, eyes closed, breathing her in “Please…..”
“I….” she gasped, overwhelmed by everything he was doing at the moment “I guess I can try to implement some work-life balance…”
“Good girl…..” he whispered, kissing her lips again and she shivered at those words. He was right. She was keeping him waiting for long.
“I’ll see you tonight then, Grayson.” Gathering what was left of her self-control she pushed him away from her, standing up abruptly and fixing her hair “I gotta get back to work now.”
“I’ll see you tonight then.” He grinned, grabbing her tightly by the waist, pulling her close and kissing once more with untamed passion, before moving away, grinning like a school boy and exiting the office, leaving the poor girl flustered and distracted.
***
“Dick!”
Dick was all ready for the Wayne Gala and for the little after party with Y/N, creating some wild scenarios in his head. But once he entered the main room, already filled with the big fish, his eyes searching for his girl in the sea of heads Sienna came right through to him.
“Sienna?” He smiled, but it felt ground  slip beneath his feet “what are you doing here?”
“Bruce invited me.” She handed him a glass of champagne and he tossed it off in a second. “Cause apparently the scatterbrain of my boyfriend forgot about the event of the year…..”
“Hm?” Dick muttered, his mind elsewhere “What? I mean, yes, of course, you know me..” he chuckled nervously “I never were a fan of this whole gala thing. Haha. None of my brothers ever were….”
“And yet, here we both are….I only wish the press weren’t so insistent.” Sienna took a sip of her own drink. “There’s this one reporter, Y/N. She tried to talk to me and get my opinion on some social case……”
“You… you talked to Y/N?!” Dick almost choked at the mini sandwich he grabbed from the tray.
“Yes! She’s a girl boss. You should meet her, Dick. Bet she would take you down with her no man’s bullshit attitude.” Sienna laughed “God, we could make such a good friends…. Oh, look! She’s right there! Talking to your brother.”
“Which brother?!” Dick’s started sweating. Please don’t let it be….
“Jason, I suppose. Seems like they are having fun together.”
“Oh, shit!” Dick hissed. Jason knew everything about this whole mission thing. And he had a really loose tongue.
“Dick? Are you all right, love?” now, Sienna seemed truly concerned, trying to meet Dick’s gaze.
“I’m perfect, dear. Would you like to dance with me?”
“I thought you hated this gala thing? And everything that came with it?”
“Well, I got a pretty girl by my side and …..” only now he get the chance to eye Sienna from head to toe. “You look beautiful.”
“Thank you. So glad you noticed.” She snickered
“So, will you do me the honour?” Dick reached his hand and once Sienna took it, lead her to the dancefloor, joining some other couples.
While he might have had Sienna in his arms, the only person on his mind was definitely Y/N. His gaze never left her figure during the dance and the only thing that saved him from any possible questions was that it was a slow dance and Sienna clung to him tightly, her head resting on his shoulder, eyes closed, enjoying them moving together.
But –
This was also the source of the trouble in the form of Y/N noticing another girl being so close to Dick. Too close. And once Dick spotted her shocked gaze, her hurt face expression, the disbelief radiating from her whole body he knew he was doomed. And Jason, who was standing next to Y/N, barely holding a laugh was not helpful at all, making Dick count the seconds till the end of the song, and desperately and silently call his younger brother for help.
Obviously, Jason was not without heart and he would have to be completely blind to not notice the suffering of Dick’s and him making a fool out of himself. So after a while of not-so-discreet laughing his ass off he actually decided to give Dick a hand. He knew that anyone connected to Batman and actually listening to him would be suffering. No matter how strained the relationship between Dick and Jason was, the latter liked Y/N. And to tell the truth, Jason wanted to save her heartbreak. If that meant letting Dick talk to his girl and keeping Sienna occupied for a while, he could deal with it. For Y/N;s sake, obviously.
“Excuse-me dance?” Jason teased approaching Dick and Sienna.
“Hey…. Honey… would you mind Jace keeping you entertained for a moment, while I go talk to that journalist you mentioned? Oldest son, gotta keep the appearances that I actually know what I’m doing here…..” Dick stuttered
“Which he obviously doesn’t” Jason hissed
Sienna looked between two brothers, a bit confused of what was happening, but finally nodding her head.
“Sure, love. You go talk to the press. Hopefully your younger brother won’t trample me….” She chuckled and kissed Dick on the lips lightly before letting go of his hand and allowing him to run of the dancefloor.
Shit….
“Y/N!” he hissed. Apparently, before talking to the press, he will have to chase it first. “Y/N, wait!” he grabbed her wrist, before she could leave the Manor, spinning her around so that she was forced to face him.
“What the hell, Dick?! Let go off me!” she struggled against his grip
“Please, let’s just talk about it….” He begged “I can explain.”
“Explain why you had another girl holding you and kissing you?! What are you playing!?”
“Come on, let’s not make a scene, Y/N!”
“No. Let’s!” she had every right to be angry but Dick could not let her unleash her inner destroyer in front of all the guest. So before she could do or say anything else, he grabbed her waist and pushed her into the first empty room, pressing her into the wall inside and capturing her lips in his.
“Y/N….” he whined, feeling her kiss him back, turning all hot, his hands roaming her entire body in the frantic need of her. Right there, right now. He wanted her. And he was going to have her. After all that was the plan all along and if it were to happen a little faster than expected.. so be it. “Y/N….” his moan died halfway when his hand slide down her leg, sneaking under the hem of her dress and moving up again, lifting the material, trying to touch her where he knew she needed. “I love you…..”
Those three little words seemed to bring her back to reality.
“You love me, huh?” she wriggled out of his grip making him groan at the loss. “How dare you say that?!”
“Ok, fine… I owe you some explanation….”
“You owe me so much more than just some explanation.” She crossed arms over her chest ”are you with her? Is she your girlfriend?”
“NO!”
“Then what is this about?!”
“Batman.” He muttered
“I’m sorry, what?” she raised an eyebrow at him
“It’s Batman and Nightwing thing. Bruce is… after a criminal apparently and sienna… she’s the way to get to him….”
“So you’re just using her!? That’s even worse!”
“I’m not using her! I never promised her anything!”
“You let her kiss you!”
“It doesn’t mean a thing!”
“Do you even know women, Grayson!?”
“I want to be with you…! Please, you have to believe me, Y/N, I swear!” he grabbed both her hands. “Look at me.” She averted her gaze “Please, look at me….” She was still disobeying so in desperation he grabbed her chin and forced her eyes on him “I know you hate me now and you have every right to do so. I should have told you about this and I’m sorry.”
“Are you now?”
“Yes. Please. I only want you. You hear me?” he leaned forward slightly, their foreheads touching “You, baby. I wish it wasn’t so hard, but sometimes… sometimes I have to act like Nightwing and not like Dick Grayson. But it doesn’t mean I love you any less.” She sighs deeply at the confession processing everything he just dropped on her. “Please baby, say something, anything.”
“She’s actually a very nice and smart girl, you know?”
“But I want you….”
“Shut up, Grayson. You say it’s hard for you, but do you have any idea how hard it is for me to go against another girl’s back?”
“I’m sorry….” He squeaked, holding her hand tighter.
“I’m not gonna leave….” Y/N starts.
“You won’t?!” his eyes lighten up a bit at the words.
“No. However…. If we are to pursue our relationship further… do… all those things you want to do…..” at this point Dick felt himself getting hard at the mere thought of having Y/N. “if you want me, you’ll have to finish that stupid mission  first. I won’t sleep with you while you still with her.”
“But it’s all fake!”
“Even if it’s fake.” Y/N emphasised.
“But….!”
“No buts. I’m here, but like I said, no betraying another girl like that. Not while she might be in love with you, you hear me? I can wait, can you?”
“Yes….” He hung his head low. “Yes, I can wait for you, but you’re making it really hard for me Y/N.”
Now
“ What the fuck is going on here?!” Sienna’s voice echoed through the apartment.
Shit… Shit… shit….
They were in so much of a deep shit…..

Shadows Entwined: Part 3
BatmanVsTmnt!Leonardo x sidekick!reader
Tumblr media
Part 1 Part 2 / Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Bonus (18+)
In which Leonardo and (H/N) meet again.
-------------------------------------
A/N: Just a friendly reminder, that the Robin in Batman Vs TMNT is Damian Wayne. The son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. Aka, Ra’s al Ghul’s grandson. That little dude is trained to kill.
Warnings: Spelling, talk of breaking bones, only slight research on Damian Wayne, long af today.
The reader and the turtles are 19.
—--------------------------------------
When Donnie said he had an idea, Leonardo didn’t expect to involve an underwater cave network that Gotham City somehow had been hiding. Michelangelo was right, this city was bonkers, in more was than Leo ever had imagined.
Leo, Mikey and Raph followed Donnie through the never ending cave system, before finally breaking the water surface, in a lit tunnel. Leo’s first thought was wondering if Batman and his sidekick ever made use of these tunnels. How often did she wonder about these waters, if ever? It was a strange thought and Leo knew it, but somehow, everything he had seen along the way, had reminded him of her.
“Look”, Raph spoke up, breaking the silence and thoughts running through Leo’s head. “I love being an amphibian as much as the next guy-”.
“Amphibious”, Donnie corrected. “We’re still reptiles”.
“Yeah, thanks for that, but you sure this cave leads anywhere?”
“Glad you asked! I am sure actually”, Donnie started explaining. “I made a database of every reported Batman sighting, and ran them through an algorithm that-”.
“Donnie”. Leo placed a hand on his younger brother’s shoulder. "Nobody cares. Where are you taking us?” Leo tried to sound, well, at least a little happy, even though a little bundle of something was building up inside of him. Nervousness? Anxiety? Couldn’t be. Why would he be nervous or anxious?
“The answer should be right through…” Donnie turned and continued in the direction they had been walking in, only to be met by a big opening in the caves. To say that what they discovered was shocking, would be an understatement. A big open cave with what looked like a taxidermy dinosaur, several glass display cases with Batman costumes, and a giant coin among other things.
“Ta-da!”, Donnie stated with his arms out. “The… Bat… Man… Cave… Huh?”
“This is pretty cool”, Leo admitted. Why did he feel so small all of sudden?
“Pretty cool?!” Mikey already looked like a child that had had too much sugar. “This is amazing! I don’t know what to put my grabby paws on first!”
As Mikey started running around, screaming like a child, Leo casted a glance around the cave. All he was Batman but no… her. Not her in person, nor anything that indicated you spend time here. Was it wrong that Leo had kind of hoped you’d be there? That when he and his brothers emerged from the water, you would be there, ready for another round? It was because he wanted to beat you. Or that was at least what he told himself. It wasn’t in line with how he saw himself, but he would much rather admit to wanting revenge, so he didn’t have to admit to anything else. Like how he hoped you would comment his eyes again. Not that he would admit it, but the thought of you being that close to him again, made tingles erupt in his stomach.
For a second Leo was scared that he was the one that began to chur at the thought of you, only to realize it was Donatello, who had gotten his eyes on a big computer.
“I don’t see any sign that the Shredder, nor the Foot Clan have been here”, Leo said, desperately trying to distract himself from the thought of you.
“Yeah. And I just see the signs of a dude with too much time and way too much money on his hands”, Raph said, looking skeptically at the Batman costumes.
“Most of these files are encrypted too heavily”, sounded Donnie’s voice from in front of the big computer. “But it looks to me like Batman has been tracking the laboratory break ins, like he’s been looking for the Foot’s next move! Same as us!”
“Hey guys! Check it out!” All three brothers turned, in fear of what Mikey had gotten himself into now. They found Mikey, sitting on top of the taxidermy t-rex, dressed in a Batman cape. “I’m Batman! And I’m riding a t-rex! I’ve never been so happy in my entire life!”
Leo’s first thought was to look around, slightly in fear of what you would think, if you found his little brother like that. “Mikey! Get down!”
“Nah man, I live up here now!”
“You should listen to him”.
Mikey turned to look at the source of this new voice, only to be met by a figure in the shadows right behind him. It was a boy. Not a very old one. Dressed in red, black, yellow and green, his eyes had a look that could kill. Yet Mikey didn’t find the child threatening in any way. Instead he turned his head to the side and let out an audible, “aww!”
The young boy sprung at Mikey, causing the two of them to fall off the t-rex and land on the ground, with Mikey’s back against the stone. Mikey held the boy above him, trying his best to hold his small hands away from his face.
“Take that mask off! Now!”, the boy yelled through gritted teeth, while Mikey was struggling to keep the mask on.
“Help!”, Mikey yelled out. “A tiny dude is like, totally trying to kill me!”
All brothers rushed to help Mikey, as the young boy pulled the mask and cap off of Mikey before jumping back, greeting distance between the two. Leo cursed himself, as his first thoughts were; did you know this kid? Did he know you?
“What are you, like five?”, Donnie asked, taken aback by the young boy in front of him.
“How did you get in here?!”, the boy asked, before jumping over Donatello, taking his bow staff and hitting him in the back of his head with it.
Leo stepped forwards with his hands held up. “Hey little guy. We didn’t come here to fight”. But Leo should have known better. Just like you, this little guy knew when to take advantage of an opening. Using Donatello’s bow staff, he hit the side of both of Leo’s knees, making them crack in a horrible way. “Jes!”, Leo yelled out, falling to the ground. At least you didn’t try to break his legs. Leo would much rather have fought against you, and not this little demon of a child.
All four of the turtle brothers were taken aback by the boy's fighting skills. Leo’s knees were aching, Donnie’s head was hurting, and Raph’s arms would soon form black marks. And the fight hadn't even been five minutes. It ended when Mikey yelled “sneak attack”, before tackling the boy, causing them to tumble around, ending with Mikey on top of the boy, retracted into his shell. The boy screamed all sorts of things out of anger, including how he would have their heads. Leo found the scene strange, just like all the other things he had seen in Gotham. Yet, there was something strangely wholesome about it. Almost domestic. A young boy being sat upon, by what felt like a teasing older brother.
Leo almost had to shake those thoughts out of his head. This wasn’t wholesome nor domestic. They were in Batman’s home (Leo wouldn’t point fingers. He and his family called the sewers home), and this little gremlin might have known something they didn’t.
“Let’s just try and reason with him, before-”. The sound of a car engine cut Leo off mid sentence. “...that”. He already had a suspicion of who it might be.
The Batmobil drove into the cave at full speed, before Batman jumped out of it, landing in front of them with this strong stare, followed by you and Batgirl. Leo had not expected his stomach to jump at the sight of you. Neither had you expected the sight of the blue turtle to make your stomach drop. Maybe it was the conversation with Batman and Batgirl, that now caused the fast heartbeat in your chest, at the sight of the turtle. Or maybe it was the sight of one of them sitting on your little brother, that caused you to clench your fists.
“Get off Robin”. He narrowed his eyes. “Now!”
The orange turtle got off of your brother, and turned to try and help him. Robin, as proud as he was sometimes, refused the turtle’s help, pulling his arm away.
“How did you get into this cave?” You unclenched your fist at the sound of Batman’s voice. Most people would find his tone scary, fearing the angry outburst that would never come. But to you and your bat family, it was a comfort. Batman cared about you, Robin, Batgirl and all of those that came before, and that meant he was willing to protect all of you from any danger. Especially strange turtles that have made it into the Batcave.
Leo took notice of your unclenching fists, and your position just behind. Covered enough to be protected, yet open enough to jump in if needed. Robin, found his place beside Batman, close enough for you to put a protective hand on his shoulder. That weird domestic picture formed in Leo’s head once more.
“Oh, well”, Donnie started. “There weren’t many security measures in the northern tunnel. We had to swim for a bit, but…” Donnie stopped as Batman frowned his brows. “I’m realizing you actually don’t want constructive criticism right now”, Donnie said, slowly pulling his head back into his shell.
“What I want are answers”, Batman said, eyes unmoving as he stared the turtles down.
“Look”. Leo stepped forward, causing you to tighten your grip on Robin’s shoulder, just a bit. But it was enough for Robin to notice, making him shoot you a questioning glare. “We’re not here to fight. My name is Leonardo”. Your grip softened on Robin’s shoulder, causing him to look at you in even more confusion. He knew you were a more expressive type than he and his father, and the sight of four mutant turtles in the Batcave might have shocked you, but so many reactions at once were not common. Not even for you.
Leonardo continued. “These are my brothers. Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo”. The orange turtle started waving at the mention of his name.
“Seriously?”, Batgirl asked, showing more amusement than the rest of the bat family.
“Our father was really into renaissance painters”, Donatello clarified.
“And he’s a rat!”, Michelangelo added.
Robin turned his head towards you. “Did… Did he just say a rat?”, he asked in a hushed tone.
“He did”, you nodded.
Leonardo had to breathe for a moment, after hearing your voice, before continuing. “We’re not your enemy. We came to stop Shredder and the Footclan. Honestly, we thought you might be Shredder’s new partner”.
Robin turned to you once more. “Foot?” You shrugged.
“Shredder”, Batman repeated. “So that’s his name... I’ve heard of a Footclan, but I thought they went extinct ages ago”.
“They’re ninja”, Raphael said. “You know, sneaky”. He moved his hands up in front of his face, as if he was hiding behind them.
“Sooooo…”. Robin moved from your protective hand and straight to the side of Batman. “Are we not going to beat up these green losers?”
Batman looked down towards his son. “It’s not looking like it, no”.
Robin sighed out loud, and you couldn’t stop yourself from smiling. Leo saw as you crossed your arms, and moved all your weight to your left leg, coming ever so slightly out from Batman’s protection.
“Then I may as well tell you that I know exactly who the Shredder and the Foot are working with”, your brother said, letting the small anger building inside of him overshadow his slight disappointment. And when you heard him say the name of his grandfather, you very well understood that anger.
“They are strange”, Robin told you, watching as Batman and Batgirl was talking to the turtles.
“They are indeed strange”, you agreed, fidgeting with whatever gadget you had in your hand, fighting the urge to look up. Because if you looked up, you would look at him. And if you looked at him, he would notice. And if he would notice, then so would Batman, and so would Robin, and Batgirl, and all of Leonardo’s brothers… Better just to focus on… what it was you had in your hand…
“I tried to break the blue one’s legs with the purple’s bow staff”, Robin said, his eyes shining proud. You finally dared to look in the direction of Leonardo, focusing on his legs. You couldn’t see any signs of injury.
“You should have aimed for the knee caps”, you told him, eyes still on the knees of the turtles.
“I did!”, Robin exclaimed, laying flat against the table. “And he did fall! But they didn’t break!”
You took a chance and looked at Leonardo’s face, studying for any signs of discomfort. None. None at all.
That should have been it. You should have looked away, so you could concentrate on that thing you had in your hand. But you didn’t. Your eyes stayed on Leonardo’s face. He was listening to something Batman told him. Most likely information about Ra's al Ghul. He looked very concentrated, with his brows frowning and his arms crossed. You noted that he was almost as stoic as Batman. You haven’t seen him smile a single time. No smiles when he fought the Penguin, no smiles in the alley, and no smiles in the Batcave. The only time you had seen him other than frowning, was when you told him he had pretty eyes.
Robin noticed your sudden silence, and looked at you in confusion. His sister never left him unanswered. She would never let an opportunity to tease him fly. But then he noticed how you had stopped fumbling with your glove, and now sat staring. Confused he looked from you, to what your eyes had been caught by.
Leonardo?
Robin looked back and forth a few times, before it finally clicked for him. He slammed his hand flat against the table, causing you to yelp and stare at your shocked little brother.
“Are you crushing on a turtle?!”
You slapped your hand against his mouth so fast, that the young Robin could only scream and fight. Confused by the sudden commotion, all of them turned to look at you.
“What did he say?”, Mikey asked, obviously intreacted
“Uh”, you said in a slight panic, trying to hold Robin still as he was lashing out against you. “He asked where Alfred was! He’s so hungry he could eat a turtle!” Batman started rubbing the bridge of his nose.
You were going to beat Damian so hard the moment Bruce looked away!

You know how everyone talks about "Since they're been multiple heroes with the same name before, Dick shouldn't've taken Robin, Tim and Damian should've both been Robin?"
Let's ignore. And instead I raise you: when Bruce retires, Dick, Tim and Cass all become The Batman.
Tim simply does not have the combat skill to take on forces like Bane, Ivy, Freeze, and other superpowerful metas night after night by himself. Cass could probably take all three of them, and despite being banged up, fight off an entire mob the same night.
But Cass simply doesn't have the science prowess required. You can't always rely on Oracle being there 100% of the time. Besides, some tech needs to be used by you, in the field. Fingerprint scanners, on the go DNA scanners, as well as some of the hyper complicated hand-held bat tech for escaping bondage. Not to mention the chemistry required to analyze new chemicals yourself (face it, if Bruce is gone, so is Alfred). She obviously won't settle for never getting better, but the branch from "no written or verbal language" to "technopath level hacking and chemistry at the level of scarecrow and Joker" is a long, hard one, and it'll take more than 5 years to bridge it. That's where Tim comes in.
Tim and Cass are both 1. highly intelligent, 2. devoted to saving people, and 3. not arrogant enough to think they have no weaknesses. They realize that they can do more as a team than not only themselves, but than Bruce was ever capable of at all.
Dick doesn't become Gotham's Batman. He doesn't want it, he never wants it again. However. No one in the superhero community with any sense thinks he is anything but more than worthy than Bruce to become a leader of the Justice League. Clark, Diana, and Wally make that clear. Dick becomes Earth's Batman. Nightwing stays as the street level hero of [insert new city as Bludhaven was nuked], but when necessary, he picks up the cowl for The League.
They all saw what Batman did the Bruce. Saving Gotham and the Earth every single day left his body raw and blistered. He was short with anger, immediately overcome with guilt and self-loathing after each temper flare. Not only did he not wish that fate on his children, they didn't particularly want to end up like that either.
Any one of them could do all the jobs Batman requires. But they know better. They learned from Bruce's mistakes. Batman shouldn't be one person's job.
Gotham, and the Galaxy, have not ever been safer.
(Bonus that Dami becomes Dick's Robin, Steph becomes Cass's, and Jason becomes Tim's)

I'd like to suggest a concept.
Angry protective Bruce as Bruce Wayne who drops Brucie in public when his family and friends are threatened. Who's ready to snarl at a jackass because one too many boundary was crossed and he's DONE.
The thing is that apparently Bruce like this is even scarier than Batman. Or well, Batman is only ever as scary as that when his protective instincts rear their head.
Social media explodes. Bruce is as doting as ever to his children and kind in general. He's just doesn't have any more fucks to give.
His kids are flabbergasted. His kids are proud. They regularly get popcorn.
Other times they get angry because many people don't like this and push back and bring up nasty things from the past. WHAT did people used to say to Bruce when he was a teenager??
Alfred's hands are shaking. He's heard some of this before. But it seems that people only get stealthier.
GODDD ITS THE WAY I HAVE THE PERFECT WHUMP PIECE FOR THIS-
Here's a brutal truth about Gotham; You can either be a broken hero, or a whole villain, but you can't be both at once. One or the other, both kneel to Gotham City in different ways.
No one from the Justice League truly understood. Not until Bruce dismisses the idea of Diana being tonight's arm candy for the rich and sleazy at Wayne Gala;
They needed to get that Kryptonite from Lex's hands, and this is the perfect trap. Bruce is the man for the job. " It's what I'm for; That's my designed purpose."
He's talking about Brucie Wayne, but Clark finds more sinister undertones beneath that. But they soon understand what that means, and it leaves them with ashes in their mouth.
They watch, helplessly, uselessly, as Lex Luthor pulls Bruce into his lap, puffing cigar smoke in his face while admiring the bat of his lashes; Bruce's beauty is a death trap. That bastard won't be thinking about the labs anytime soon.
But it's disturbing to watch.
It's disturbing and wretched, watching Bruce sit there and take it; Smiling emptily, pretending there's nothing wrong when his waist is squeezed or his character is smeared.
Clark watches with red eyes as Lex grabs Bruce's sharp jawline, moving it from side to side, as if displaying an adorable animal, " Brucie's lucky he's pretty, cause there's NOTHING upstairs" while laughing with a group of equally disgusting men.
Bruce is just rolling his eyes internally and hopes Oliver and Hal will get a kick out of this, cause it's the last time he does a mission for this; Better him than Diana.
(Oliver and Hal aren't enjoying this; far from it, actually. Ollie squeezed a champagne glass so hard shards bite into his hand and Hal has to take his ring off because he WILL blast these assholes with it on)
Carmine Falcone is the spark that lights the fire, thought.
Wrinkled, ringed fingers tipping up Bruce's jaw, " When I told Tommy he'll be a looker, he punched my goddam lights out. But I was right, wasn't I? Shame he ain't here to see it,"
Clark is reminded, then, that Tim is watching this from Bruce's lens. Maybe Dick, too. Maybe all of them do. His stomach coils at the thought,
" Maybe that boy of yours, - Tim, right? - is gonna take after you and drop the chairman act. God knows this city needs more pretty boys like you."
There's another, secret truepiece about Gotham; Bruce Wayne wears Batman. Not the other way around.
The League has the pleasure of watching Bruce slowly rise from Lex's lap, smile ice-cold and dangerous and venom painted.
They watch with paused breaths as Bruce Wayne grips Falcone's head and bangs it againts the table and backhand Lex so hard a storm of teeth fly out.
The room temperature is fire, Bruce's anger drowning them in, and there's a bit of pleasure in it. Especially when their friend simply dusts off his hand and says he's ready to go, but Clark HEARS Bruce's heart stutter and panic, " I need to see Tim, - I need... I need Tim. I need my kids."
No one holds him back; They're smarter than that.
No one harms Bruce's children; There's a tall price to pay if you do, and no one's pockets are that deep. And yes, people have lots to say about it; But he's too tired and too sick and too angry to give half a fuck.
As long as his family is okay, what's more to care about? As long as they don't go through what HE went through, what's there to dig after?
But Alfred has his own shares of horror stories about teenage Bruce and how he was treated, and he isn't shy to reveal names.
" But of course, there's nothing Superman could do about it, am I wrong, Mr. Kent?"
" Superman, no. Clark kent just might, sir."

Tumblr media
You couldn’t figure out how you ended up in this situation.
A few months before this entire mess of a night, your parents had kicked you out on the streets after coming out to them as gay. Kind of ironic knowing the other stuff they ‘tolerated’, but whatever.
So after that, you were sleeping on the streets, doing what you had to do to survive. It’s Gotham City, so you were bound to eventually run into trouble. Some guys who were clearly drunk off their asses decided to start harassing you then Batman showed up to save the day. But he barely got a punch in before you had all three of them laying on their asses in pain.
There was a reason you asked your parents for self-defense classes the moment you came to terms with your sexuality. The world was changing, but not quickly enough.
So, the Dark Knight dropped you off at the police station where coincidentally, Bruce Wayne happened to show up and offered to take you in. You’d heard about the billionaire’s ‘hobby’ of taking in kids off the street and giving them a better life, and what more pleasing way to shove the middle finger at your parents than to end up in the care of someone who seemed to actually give a fuck about you more than they ever pretended to?
Then, the tests started. You figured Bruce was testing your skills to see how well you’d be able to take care of yourself just in case another incident happened as the one Batman found you in. They continued for a while, and before Bruce got to tell you what they were actually for, it was too late.
A few months after your move-in into Wayne Manor, you started getting the feeling you were being watched. And growing up in Gotham, you always knew it was better to listen to your instincts and be wrong than not listen and still be wrong.
A week before the attack on the city from Scarecrow, you had been on your way home walking since Bruce wasn’t able to pick you up due to some ‘unforeseen circumstances’. You’d soon come to find out all of that was a diversion so Arkham Knight and his militiamen had a clear shot at nabbing you.
When you turned down a corner to an empty street, they pulled you into an alleyway and jumped you. You did your best to fight them off, but they began to overwhelm you. Somehow, you gained an upper hand though, the goons not expecting you to be as trained as you were.
Just before you could take out the last of them though, he showed up and surprised you from behind, covering your nose and mouth with a rag seeped in nitrous oxide, putting you right to sleep.
Right before you lost consciousness, you heard a modulated voice chuckle in your ear, “Don’t worry, I got you. You’re safe with me now.”
You woke up in a dark room with hands and feet tied together and a splitting headache to match the aches around your body. You looked around to see the room you were in was empty, but you could hear voices on the outside talking.
“Why do you think Knight wanted him in the first place?”
“If I had to guess, it probably got something to do with the Bat himself.”
“Hmm, maybe. Personally, I think he’s got a thing for him. Not my place to judge, but I’ve heard and seen how protective he gets of him. Did you see the way he brought him in? Not one of us was allowed to even touch him.”
You didn’t know what to make of it or how to make sense of it. Didn’t have the time to do it either since you heard footsteps approaching the door. You listened to that same modulated voice you’d heard before you passed out giving an order to open the door.
Laying back down in the position you were in before, you pretended to be still asleep.
You could hear the heavy footsteps as if whoever this was wearing the heaviest of heaviest boots in the world. The nervous feeling in your chest grew more and more the closer they sounded. Doing your best to stay still, you tried slowing your breathing down to a relaxed pace as you felt the thuds on the ground from him coming to stand next to you, feeling his entire presence standing over your body. You prepared your body figuring he may kick, slap, or even yell for you to wake up.
You did not expect to feel a gloved hand caressing your face.
“I know you’re awake.” He spoke before removing his hands and standing back up.
Opening your eyes, you saw a glowing screen mask staring down at you.
You heard their modulated voice chuckle as he watched you slowly sit back up. “You didn’t think we’d have cameras inside watching to see when you’d got up?” He stated before gesturing to the cameras around the room.
The mysterious soldier turned around to grab the only chair in the room, moving it to the middle of the room before coming back to lift you off the ground, settling you into the chair gently.
“Why am I here?”
“I know what’s best for you, just trust me on this one. You’re safer with me than with him.”
“Him? Who are you talking about?” You asked with a puzzled look coming across your face.
He didn’t immediately respond, but you could tell he was debating on something, you just didn’t know what.
“In time, you’ll find out.” He replied simply.
“What do you want?” You asked.
“Direct and to the point, huh? Knew there was something I liked about you.” He laughed, walking to stand in front of you with his arms crossed.
“Must be a lot of things from what I’ve heard. Otherwise, I don’t think I’d be sitting here.”
“Really? Well, if I were you, I’d think better than believing everything I hear.” He said, grabbing your chin a little rough, forcing you to look up at him.
You scowled at the armor-clad man before spitting at him. You watched the glob of saliva run down his mask before the hand on your chin grabbed at your neck. You clawed at his wrists to no avail as he lifted you out of the seat.
“That wasn’t very nice. Say you’re sorry, and I won’t hurt you… much.” He said, getting very close to your face to the point you could feel the electricity buzzing off the screen.
“Fuck you, asshole.” You spat at him.
He chuckled darkly, before kicking the chair you were sitting on.
“If you insist.”
He slammed you down on the ground, your breath escaping you and your vision going blurred. He kept his hand tight on your neck while the other one went down to your pants, undoing the belt and button before attempting to pull them down.
“No!” You whimpered, trying to fight back against him. He placed his body over your kicking legs, his heavyweight managing to hold them still while he now went to put his hands up your shirt. He felt all over your upper body, even stopping to pinch at your nipples a few times, before his hand went back down to your pants, sticking them down your underwear. You cried out at the feeling, trying your best to get him off you, but the dude was like a tank, and you were getting weaker with the more time he spent choking the air out of you. He started trying to push down your pants again before you both heard pounding against the door.
“Knight! Scarecrow says we gotta move!”
He held still for a moment before you felt him release you. You gasped for breath while he re-did your pants before pulling you up from the ground. Your body lay against his weak while feeling a little lightheaded from being jerked up so suddenly.
“You got lucky, this time. But, I wouldn’t try a move like that again. You won’t be leaving anytime soon
“Batman will. He’ll kick your ass.” You groaned from the soreness around your throat while panting into his chest armor.
You felt the chuckle vibrate from his chest before he bent down to lift you in a bridal hold.
“I was held captive once too, tortured even. Thought the same thing. It’s nice for a while but you’ll get over it soon enough.”
You struggled in the hold as he moved toward the door letting out a whimper from the pain your body was still in. “Please… just let me go.” You begged.
“Aww, already giving in? Cute. And smart. But, too little, too late. There’s no use in sucking up to me now.” He said, before heading out of the room to wherever.
Tumblr media
You watched from around the corner, a gag tied over your mouth now with your hands bound in front of you as one of the militiamen held you in place. You saw Batman come around the corner and tried to scream out to warn him but was too late as Knight had jumped from the ledge he was hiding on shooting at him.
Batman managed to dodge but was quickly knocked to the ground. Before he could get up, Knight walked over and placed his foot on his chest, pinning him down to the ground.
“Oh no, no, you’re not going anywhere, old man.”
You looked in horror as Knight switched hands with the gun he was holding, pointing it down directly at the masked vigilante.
“Tri-weave, titanium coated, armor plating. Nice. Unless you know exactly…where to shoot.” He said, before placing the gun down on his lower abdomen and pulling the trigger. You flinched at the sound, watching him groan in pain before Knight moved his foot off his chest.
“You’re good, Dark Knight. Even better than I remember. It’s going to make it even more satisfying when I kill you. Oh, and, don’t worry about Barbara. I’ll take better care of her than you ever did. Y/N too, he’s mine now.” You heard him say, walking toward where you and the others were standing around the corner.
“Batman’s in the control room. Show him what happens when he messes with my city and tries to take what doesn’t belong to him.”
Knight walked toward you as the militiaman immediately released you into his embrace. He cradled you gently even as you tried to push out of his hold. When he got tired of you fighting him, he just picked you up and tossed you over his shoulder, carrying you away from the room.
“You’re better off without him anyway.”

Yeah I'm not done yet.
The thing I keep coming back to is that as much as I'm down to nit-pick things like how characters are written and plot details (and boy are there a whole infestation of nits to pick), what it boils down to is that the basic premise here shouldn't even be happening.
I get they're doing a Thing with Bruce and the after effects of Failsafe and Zur and Insomnia so sure I guess it makes sense to have him acting totally unreasonably. I'm not saying it's a plotline I'm thrilled with, but whatever. This is about everyone else.
You have half a dozen people routinely patrolling in Gotham, who've been doing it for years, who know the city and how it works, who have at least two people who are particularly inclined towards collecting and parsing data for patterns for crime fighting purposes, and none of you noticed anything amiss until Selina called and was like "Hey did you notice my neat new plan I've been doing?"
To that point, in a room full of literal canonical geniuses not a single person has thought to ask any of a dozen very practical questions that occurred to me, a non-genius reader, roughly 10 seconds after reading what The Plan was. Things like, oh, I don't know
How is this going to be a sustainable long-term effort?
For example, what happens when Gotham's wealthiest realize what you're doing and dramatically beef up their security (with tech or with actual people), making it much harder and more dangerous?
Like iirc you, Selina, have definitely had some real dicey situations as a result of your profession, and you're a lot more experienced than these people.
(Hey speaking of which isn't there a whole secret society of Gotham's wealthiest and most powerful who have access to nearly unkillable assassins? Who keeps coming back even though they keep being taken down? You think any of these people might belong to that?)
What happens when the rich folks get pissed and sic the heavily militarized GCPD on you? Don't act like they won't, I'm sure someone's squirreled away stuff from that whole Fear State fiasco.
For that matter, what happens when the costumed villainry figure out who swiped all their henchpeople and decide to object to it, presumably violently?
How many people are we talking here anyway that you're training? How many ultra-wealthy people live in Gotham? How many easily stealable things do they have sitting around to take? (As opposed to, like, other non-liquid fake assets like stocks)
How are you fencing all this anyway? Isn't that a great way to get caught? Or is everyone just stealing cash? (Or did nobody think about the part between "got the valuable thing" and "have usable money from it"?)
How on god's green earth did you ever assume this was going to end in anything other than violence?
Like of course one of your guys got killed. It doesn't matter that you told them no violence, even if they fully buy into that it only takes one panicked reaction when someone's home who shouldn't be, on either side, and there you go.
Look I get what they're trying to do. It's supposed to be a big moral quandary about whether it's right to allow some crime if it decreases other crime, the struggle between Batman being unreasonably violent and unwilling to listen and this new plan of Selina's. First of all that's a weird debate to have when everyone having it is technically a criminal to some degree. And second of all, it doesn't matter, this isn't about the morality, this is about how this plan is fucking dumb and was destined to fall apart even if Batman was still asleep and the fact that any of you are buying it just means there's a gas leak in Gotham somewhere.

Blogging (and other dangerous activities likely to get you adopted by the Batman)
Inspired by Latchkey by goldkirk
Tim wakes up to Batman in his room.
It- well, it's not fair to say it's a surprise, but seeing the looming figure in his window does make his heart seize. Even after the time Tim's spent watching him with the Robins, it's still nerve-wracking to have Gotham's nightmare show up. Especially since Batman does little to dissuade the notion that he's here on genial business.
Maybe Bruce has figured out he knows and is going to silence him. Maybe this isn't actually Batman, but Man-bat, and Tim's about to be twelve-year-old bat jerky. Maybe-
His parents are home this week though, so if he really wanted he could probably scream and get himself some thinking time; but as he takes a breath to decide what to do, Batman puts a gloved hand over his mouth.
And, ugh. It smells kinda gross. Like leather and motorcycle fumes. Probably the right Batman, but also. Super gross? Why does he smell so bad? When did he last rinse his gloves?
“You've been blogging.” Batman says, which isn't a question but is a very unhelpful non-sequitur.
“Mmrnhm?” Tim says, largely unintelligible but not entirely intending words.
What the shit. Batman's only here because of the blog?
Also, unfair. He'd had to jump through so many hoops to spoof his IP and make his own VPN and switch which library he posted from, and Batman still found him? This sucks.
“Don't scream,” Batman says, and Tim nods. Batman pulls his hand away slowly, potentially having expected Tim to lie, but Tim's not stupid. Batman doesn't have to do this nicely, even if he is a kid, and Tim also knows that if he did scream, Batman would either a) be prepared and gag him again or b) vanish, and then Tim would be in trouble with his parents. Either option sucks, so he'd rather opt for the one that lets him keep taking in the details of Batman's suit. It's hard in the dark, but still way easier than through his camera.
“It could've been my parents,” Tim says, when it seems Batman's waiting for him to answer his earlier not-question. Batman hums, and Tim wiggles back so he's against the headboard. “Yeah, I figured you'd already researched their flight times. Have to try though, right?”
“The blog. Why?”
“It's-” he starts, because there's so many reasons and he doesn't actually know which one Batman wants. Or, actually, would like the least? Probably 'I wanted to see you in action' would land with the grace of a sleep-deprived Jason Todd, but 'I was lonely' may be worse. 'I didn't expect it to blow up?' may be okay, but in the end he hesitantly settles with: “I just think that- seeing you, being- human? Or, showing you have humanity- was important.”
“Did you ever think that I wouldn't want that?” Batman asks, and Tim shifts awkwardly.
“I mean. Yes? But also, the way people- talk about you and the Robins. It sucks.”
Batman's mouth looks very displeased.
“It just, it shows that you're human!”
“How do you know?” Batman asks, and he actually kinda sounds like Bruce Wayne now, like this is a joke he's used before, and Tim thinks through what he'd been about to say very quickly and shuts his mouth with a snap. Ow. Now his teeth hurt.
Batman, on the other hand, does something to his cowl that makes him look like he's very slowly raising his eyebrow. Is it weird to think he looks tense, looks more threatening now, even though he'd literally just been looming with the promise of violence? Tim swallows hard.
“I don't?” he offers, his voice breaking, and he literally doesn't think he's ever been more humiliated by puberty. “I mean, I don't! Know you're human, that is. You could definitely be an alien if you wanted. Or a spirit of revenge, or-” Tim flops backward on his bed and pulls his blanket over his head. “I shouldn't be so bad at this,” he mumbles, and doesn't think about he's definitely going to die because Batman's suspicious and Tim's an idiot when he's tired.
Batman is damningly silent, but when Tim finally, hesitantly, peeks his eyes out from the hem of his blanket, the Dark Knight is still standing in his room. Actually, he's half-hunched over Tim's desk, looking at the corkboard of Tim's photos and reminders. He reaches out, and Tim's heart thuds. “Oh, please don't!” he says instinctively when Batman grazes Tim's camera. Batman stops and tilts his head over his shoulder to look, and Tim swallows down the anxiety clogging his throat. “Please don't take my camera. I can get another one but I- that one was-”
“Stop taking photos of us.” Batman says, short and to the point.
“Stop posting them to the blog?” Tim offers, and this makes Batman turn around properly, looking at him head-on again. He's judging Tim, now, and Tim wonders what part of him will be found wanting. In Batman's eyes is Tim's wealth a precursor to change or stagnation? Does he think Tim should be doing more with his life? Or does he simply expect that this is a rich kid's hobby, no sentimentality involved? Bruce Wayne took his billions and made himself a hero and Tim knows he can't do the same, considering his parents are in charge of the Drake fortune, but there's probably a million other things he could be doing that don't involve stalking superheroes.
“You're a child,” Batman says slowly, and his voice has lost the harder overture that's affected his speech so far. “When Batman is out, it is late, and dark, and dangerous. You are a child and shouldn't be anywhere near-”
“I don't go close!” Tim protests, “I'm not stupid!”
“There are always people in Gotham. What does it matter if you're not in the area of the most danger when you're still in danger?”
“I'm not stupid,” Tim protests with a hiss that contains more vitriol than it really should, considering his conversation partner, but he can't help it. “If you never saw me how'd you think anyone else could?”
“How do you know I never saw you?” Batman asks, like a challenge, and Tim scoffs.
“Come on, you think I don't know that if you saw me out there, you'd have me thrown in the back of the Batmobile and at the closest precinct before I could blink? Jason almost-” Tim freezes, then quickly blurts, “-before he took your tires, and got adopted by Bruce Wayne, Jason tried to do the same thing whenever he saw me. I know what I look like, to people in Crime Alley.”
Shoot, shoot, shoot, this is actively a terrible lie; Batman only needs to ask Jason when he met Tim and the whole thing would be blown. And, also, name-dropping a specific kid, like Batman would remember who stole his tires? The connection is tenuous at best and damning at worst.
“You've been taking photographs of us since you were eight?” Batman asks, sounding horrified, and Tim winces internally. Please forgive me, Robin, he whispers in the back of his mind, and then says with all the glib disdain he can muster:
“Well, you let Robin go out when he was barely older than me. It's the same thing.”
He has never seen Batman do a full-body wince before. He's not entirely sure he could get Batman to do it again, and wonders if he should add it to his board of accomplishments. He’d have to encode it if he did, even if the board’s mostly for his own reference, but imagining it pinned up next to his photography awards is making him feel a bit hysterical. Then again, that could also be the fact that Batman is still in his room and Tim is lying.
“He was not eight-”
“I just think that unless the same orders get applied to him I think you're being a bit of a hypocrite. He’s actively in more danger than I am, considering he ends up in grabbing range of Rouges and I don’t.”
“I will be telling your parents,” Batman growls, and this time Tim smirks.
“Yeah? And how do you think that's going to go for you?” Tim can almost exactly imagine it: there's no way his parents will believe Batman, because it's crazy and they'd be freaking out over Batman in their house, and if he does it as Bruce Wayne it'd be a crazy coincidence for Tim Drake, known genius, to have access to. If Tim hadn't already solved their identities, that connection alone would probably tip him off.
Well, maybe Batman wouldn't think about the potential implications - academic strengths don't always translate to detective-solving skills, and it's just Batman's misfortune that in Tim's case it's a little bit the other way around. Detective skills that he's carefully and stubbornly honed have led him to a dogged dedication to his studies.
“Robin is a trained professional,” Batman says, and Tim volleys back with,
“Yeah and I'm not doing the same thing he is at all, so my standards can be different.”
“Tim Drake,” Batman says, this time actively growling his name, and Tim doesn’t know if he should cackle or wince. For one thing, he’s pretty sure Batman has lost this verbal volley, which is why he’s pulling out the doom and darkness voice.
On the other, this is the voice he uses on men triple Tim’s size and with twice the bravery (and crazy), and having the full force of it directed at him makes his stomach drop. He clutches his blankets, fabric pulled tight, and tries to pretend his hands aren’t shaking.
“The blog is being removed - do not start it again. I will not see you on Gotham’s streets again during my patrol.”
The lens of his mask are so narrow that the white is barely visible. He holds Tim’s gaze, like he’s imparting the orders, like he’s checking to see Tim’s fear will keep him obedient, and then nods slowly. The cape swishes behind him as he puts Tim’s camera back on the desk, and then he’s leaving. Leaving, and Tim’s secrets are safe and he is unharmed and undeterred.
“You won’t,” Tim whispers as Batman slips out his window and into the dark.

Rogue system knowledge & Tim and Jason
@head-in-the-clouds27 regarding your question about if Talia will know about the Rogue system for Tim and if this change in Tim would also make the dynamic with Jason different got me thinking. So here is what I thought about.
Rogue System & The League
Tim is a natural snoop that makes unreasonable amounts of contingency plans as he goes, which is why he weasels himself into Barbara Gordon’s heart through lighthearted trash talk about Bruce & Dick and thirst for knowledge in order to learn more about computer science from day one. (Tim is not arrogant enough to think he could achieve the same level of greatness through the lack of a teacher.) As such, Tim learns about the League when he wasn’t supposed to know (really dumb of Bruce when Tim could be at risk, did he learn nothing?) when he snoops through the Batcomputer and decides then and there that attracting the interest from them is far too dangerous.
Paired with the newly attained hacker knowledge and having no qualms about using questionable methods like gaslighting and blackmail, Tim uses that to control a large part of the Rogues underground. Unintentionally he becomes one of the big bosses in the crime family as he forces them to alter pieces of information, use codes that only they understand, and build up a cover-up to make it seem like they use it for every vigilante and not only for a tiny Robin. (Whoever doesn’t do as he is told is either being put into a trap with Batman arriving or Tim makes it through cleverly planned incidents and more gaslighting that the Rogues end up fighting each other. You would assume that they understood that quickly, but people are sometimes stupid and like underestimating Tim, and as such, some more drastic measures needed to be taken. In the end, though, they learned to listen after all.)
It is that altered information that the League is only aware of because when they infiltrate some of the crime families to learn about the system, the plan never goes according to plan. Despite Talia’s strong suspicion of that bird, Ra’s has enough of losing good assassins for some measly system along with the unwanted attention of the Detective again that he orders them back. Talia is supposed to concentrate on their newest project that she put at risk because of Batman being too close for their liking now. (Talia does as she is told despite her dislike as she forms her new, little soldier through manipulation and honey-covered lies she whispers into his ears. With hundreds of years of knowledge, she knows just how to use pawns when it involves the pit.)
Jason and Tim’s first meeting
Like in canon because of the Red Hood’s appearance in Gotham, Tim is forced to leave for Florida and prohibited from leaving the Tower for an unknown amount of time. Tim does not mind that he is essentially skipping school for that time, however, he does mind that he was totally caught off-guard by the Waynes and as he was rushed through the Zeta tube he was unprepared. With the Waynes being unaware of his nature (granted that is on him 100% and isn’t it what he wanted) there is not enough time to take a lot with himself, which includes the much-needed packages of blood he regularly consumes to stay sane and, you know, alive.
It isn’t much of a rebellion when he tries to escape out of the tower and much more of a healthy desire to live. Tim might not seem like it with his unhealthy tendencies, but he does have a stronger will to survive than a wet paperback. But as predicted with someone like Batman, the safety measures prove themselves to be fruitful and even Barbara does not want to help him out, instead reinforcing the system. It is completely unreasonable and overkill in Tim’s eyes when heroes from the Justice League show up when he does end up getting out by a sheer miracle. Finally meeting the Green Lantern he loved ever since he was small (Tim is in denial that he still is) isn’t worth it though with the follow-up lectures, but the worst ones are when Superman - who is practically like an uncle to the Waynes - shows up and gives him that disappointed puppy look. Even when the man isn’t his uncle because Tim is not a Wayne by any means, it has a deadly effect on him. And then come the messages from Dick that make Tim feel so guilty that he lets go of his stubbornness for once and plays obedient soldier.
(Tim watched with rising panic as he depletes the little amount of blood resources that he had and a familiar feeling of hunger settles in him. Being alone and hungry was a familiar friend, if you could call it that, for Tim. But Tim had gotten so used to a different reality -although it was still slow going as both Bruce and Tim himself were hesitant- that it was now something that he dreaded.)
With very poor timing it is when Tim is at his worst that the Red Hood breaks into the Tower and comes across Tim. Not Robin, but Tim the monster. A boy that he heard a lot about through Talia and yet that boy before him then wasn’t quite as helpless and weak as he has been told. He had a familiar edge in his smile, in the way that his eyes seemed to stare straight into his soul and how he didn’t hesitate to grasp a knife as a weapon. (Robin was supposed to be the comfort, the sneaky surprise that struck when you least expect it. Not deadly dangerous. That wasn’t Jason or Tim, they were familiar with the darkness and didn’t hesitate to use it. They were a different kind.) None of that mattered to the Red Hood in that moment however. The pit hummed in satisfaction to have an evenly matched target that could keep up with its strength, though technique wise they were far different. The pit drowned out how similiar the two were, the pit only made the Red Hood see green and so incredibly angry.
The Red Hood wasn’t the only one who was filled with an unexplainable surge of power, however. Tim fought viciously against the larger man who could count himself lucky with the helmet, because otherwise, Tim would have already ripped his throat open. He made do with the knife in his hand instead of his Bo-staff and he managed to hurt the Red Hood more than once, although none of the wounds are fatal enough to halter the man in his steps. Angry at that, the Red Hood managed to push Tim down the stairs where he crumbled into a mess along with his weapon when bones snapped. Groaning and cursing Tim was ready to get up again when he was shoved back down and the Red Hood took off the helmet.
Jason Todd, his hero, his dead Robin stood before Tim. Not so dead after all.
The reveal was a greater shock than when Jason leaned closer and spat a choice of words at the replacement. The pretender. The cuckoo that snuck into a nest he wasn’t supposed to have when he had his own family. Nevermind that it was a poor excuse of one. But Jason didn’t know anything about the truth. How could he? He didn’t know that he lost his mother long before she died of person. Didn’t know that the comatose state of his father was a mercy in disguise. Didn’t know that the Waynes didn’t even truly want him. Jason was angry at Tim and regardless of the explanations that he tried, the older didn’t want to listen to him any longer.
As such, the slitting of his throat came quick like the strike of a viper. Jason didn’t care as Tim bleed out then and there. He left his message for the Bats and left without even sparing Tim another glance. That hurt more than it should have and it took Tim longer than he wanted to call back the logical part of his brain. Like, how he was in danger of dying. He activated his emergency beacon and hoped that Bruce and Dick would soon come, but Tim knew that his survival rate wasn’t great. (Vampires weren’t immortal despite popular belief in pop media. He had seen it with his mother after all. Vampires turned grey in a way no human could and not long after they would turn to ash. There was a reason that the Drakes were apparently always burned and not put in coffins.) Tim did not wish to die, so he did the only logical conclusion. Crawling to the knife that was kicked aside by Jason, he took the weapon in his slippery hands and prayed that all the blood on it was more from Jason than his own. His own would have proven to be useless. With probably not much time left, Tim licked the blood off from the knife even when it made his poor throat scream in more pain.
However, that was nothing compared to the following. Tim had never tasted such awful blood like then. It was rotten and slid down his throat like sludge, he needed to fight against the urge to throw it back up again. Forcefully he kept his mouth shut even when the heat set in. The usual healing effect of blood was cool and numbing to his body, but this blood scorched from his insides and decidedly did not start healing the wound. Being a naturally cold creature, the heat was nearly unbearable to endure. At first, Tim thought he misjudged and that he would die that die, but then he did realize that there was somewhat of an effect. While it didn’t heal the wound, it stopped the blood flow enough that he could outlive the attack.
Later on Bruce, Alfred and Dick would wonder how Tim survived. They were thankful beyond belief, but there had been so much blood and Tim lied so cold and still that Dick fully expected to have lost another younger brother when he didn’t have the chance to protect him, again. Tim did not want to talk about that day, barely even spoke which was at first explained by the injury but later on put on as trauma. Tim would end up disclosing who the Red Hood was, but beyond that there was not a thing he explained.
Dick caught Tim more than once staring into the mirror and looking at the scar, the first scar that was ever left on his body. Dick would try his best to cheer him up and explain that it didn’t make him ugly or anything, but Dick had no clue to the extent of how much it truly unsettled Tim. For the first time, the powers of his have failed. Tim wasn’t scared of the attack itself or what Jason had done, Tim was scared that it could happen again now.

I feel like I owe you an apology. Every time you brought up batman fanon or WFA, I thought you were just being a grinch.
I haven't really looked into the fandom since I was in an obsessive comic phase like ~15 years ago, and one of my favorite Batman comics is Li'l Gotham, so I just assumed it was the familiar "how dare you like goofy baby stories more than the dark serious stories?" sentiment I often got from Hardcore Batman Fans, as if liking it meant I couldn't enjoy the other comics, too.
But I happened to browse some tags recently and…oh my god. OH MY GOD? I can forgive the strange overwhelming amount of WFA-esque content- people like what they like. I can't forgive the people making meta posts over "proper characterization" sourcing their own ass? To argue Bruce is only ever written well when he's portrayed as a good dad?? To insist Dick is always the loving supportive big brother who does no wrong? Where is all this coming from?? I love lighthearted, silly side content stuff, but I thought it was widely understood these clowns are walking disasters, when did that change? I truly, honestly thought the "never reads comics" talk from people was just a way to belittle others' preferences, but I really… don't think they DO read any non-WFA comics to have some of these takes. Wow.
I'm so sorry for doubting you.
listen. I appreciate your honesty here. I AM frequently a grinch for no reason except the perverse pleasure that it brings me to be a grody little hater.
but I am no remotely goofing about the severity of the disconnect between the people who are fans of Batman comics and people who are fans of a made up version of the Batfamily born from incorrect quotes blogs and AUs where the Bats recognize that they have mental health problems and actually deal with them.

“You’re being so much like your father”
“My father was a good man.”
“Oh please, your father was a corrupt business man!”
The conversation is now a full blown argument. It wasn’t about getting your point across. It wasn’t about trying to state your mind. No it was a competition. Who could respond quicker? Who could hurt the other person more? Who would win? No more educated statements, only rash insults.
“Don’t you dare talk about my father that way!” He yells walking toward you, as to challenge you.
You shake your head at his tactics, “Everyone told me you got the worst qualities from your father. The self absorbness, the playboy facade, and the way you can never see when to give up. That you would never make a good husband” You scoff in disbelief. “And I defended you! Never noticing your red flags because you hid them so well!” You cry out
“Oh you want to present yourself as a victim to make yourself feel better? You and I both know you chose this life” He screams at you.
In every argument you have ever had, never once had he screamed at you. In all the rage and frustration, your beloved and devoted husband had never ever been as mad at you as he was now. His eyes were hardened and no matter how deep you looked into them you could find not a once of love. The very realization of this made you sick to your stomach, and you instantly feel tears well. Whether they were from shock, frustration, or sadness, you didn’t know. In truth, you knew you had no right to be upset at his words. You’re the one who started the argument. But some selfish part of you did want to play the victim. Deep down you knew there was truth to his words, not that you’d ever admit it.
“You wanted it until you didn’t.” He states much calmer than before. You assume this is probably because he noticed your tears or maybe it was because he just wanted to stop the yelling.
You shake your head rapidly, as if to stop the tears, “What choice did I have? I wanted you! Not the Batman. And when you told me that you couldn’t- No that you wouldn’t give up the mask, I understood, I really did. And when things started getting tough I was there for you because I love you. And to love you means to love every part of you including Batman. But now it seems you’re consumed by it, him. The man I fell in love with is no longer there. It’s just a shell of a man that once was. I don’t recognize you anymore. I look at you and all I see him”
You look him in the eyes to see anything, anything at all, but you see nothing but a mask. A mask he was putting on. You sigh. Maybe this is the end of it all. You didn’t want it to be. You love him. Hell, you had given your whole life to him. You didn’t go out and explore the world, unlike Bruce who left you for a 7 year journey. But you never once dated anyone else during that time. Remaining faithful. Because you loved him and couldn’t betray him like that even if you were on a break. When he said he had to leave to do something important, you promised him that you would be there when he came back with open arms. You’d know him since you were children, dated since you were teenagers, married since you were adults. Never once have you dared to look at another man. Bruce was the only man for you. You were sure of it. But sometimes you wondered what life would be like if you hadn’t waited for him all those years ago. You often get postcards from your old friends exploring the world. Each and everyone you read with a pinge of envy. Envious that they got to live their life while you’re here in Gotham, still with your Highschool sweet heart. Maybe that’s why you never went to any of the stupid highschool reunions. You knew they would judge you for being in the same spot and relationship you were in all those years ago. They would ask you what have you done? And you wouldn’t know how to respond. Truth is you’ve done nothing with your life but Bruce. He was your whole life. Your whole goddamn universe. But somewhere alone the line you got tired of it. Tired of it all. You felt stuck. And that’s the worse feeling in the whole world. A third wheel in your own relationship. You can’t just leave him because throughout the years it became a kind of codependency. He couldn’t function without you, and you without him. But you can’t do it anymore. It deteriorating you. Can’t he see your sunken eyes from staying up all night waiting for him? Your callused hands from stitching his wounds? Your biten lips from biting them every-time he goes out in fear he might not return? You love him with all your heart but sometimes love just isn’t enough.
He lets out a long breath and closes his eyes. He loves you. He knows that. He knows you better than anyone, but yet he doesn’t know what you want him to do. Perhaps he should do what he wants to do. But what he wants to do is run out and go punch some unsuspecting criminals to blow off steam. What good would that do if when he gets back you might not be there? However this is Bruce Wayne we’re talking about. The Bruce Wayne that is afraid. Afraid that even if he does try to talk it out you’ll admit something that will be harder to swallow than you just leaving unannounced. He wouldn’t know how’d he handle it if you ever blatantly told him you were leaving and why. He can stand you leaving without closure because then at least he can still have hope. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he had to accept the truth. That it’s his fault that you’re leaving. So he did what he does best. Leave to go punch some bad guys.
You scoff through tears in disbelief, he had turned away from you to go on patrol. Typical Bruce. You wanted him to fight. To argue. To reassure you that everything was going to be alright. That he still loved you. That he cared. But he doesn’t. Instead he gets into the Batmobile and drives off. You don’t know why you expected more from him. You had almost yelled after him. But you didn’t. Now no amount of words can fix what’s already broken. It’s time you let go of this broken ship before it takes you down with it.
When Bruce gets back he’s not surprised that all of your stuff is gone. He anticipated it. But yet it still hurts. A part of him had hoped that you would be waiting when he got home. Opened armed and ready for his apology, like you had done so many times before. This time was different though. You had pulled your heart and soul out to him and he ignored you. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back. You finally came to your senses that you deserved better. Bruce let’s out a weak smile at the thought of you finally being happy in all the way he couldn’t make you. Your crinkled eyes as you smiled. Your laugh that you thought was the ugliest thing, but the most beautiful thing to him. You deserved to be like that all the time. You deserve it all, he thinks. He is taken back to the harsh reality of the situation by a soft knock. He can’t help the way his heart leaps at the thought that it might be you. But then he opens the door and sees Alfred. His hope instantly fading.
“Master Bruce, I brought you some sleeping tea. As I imagine that it might be hard for you to sleep.” That’s all Alfred says, and places the the tea tray on the bedside table.
Nothing more nothing less. That’s what everyone loves about Alfred. He knows not to bring up you gone because he knows Bruce isn’t ready to talk about it. But he’ll bring him tea to silently let him know that he’s knows and he’s there. Bruce wonders if he had done the same for you. Well comforted you as you were leaving. Reassured you that you’d be okay. He’s glad that Alfred brought him some tea so he can go to sleep where his dreams with you reside. Bruce can’t help but feel the ache in the top of his stomach at the thought of you. Guilt? Sadness? Anger? Perhaps all three. He’s mad at himself for not fighting for you when he had the chance. Guilt for not giving up the stupid Batman. He knew you would do it for him. Had he said the word you would do anything for him. If he had told you to stay you would’ve. Guilt for keeping you in a this relationship for so long when you deserved so much better. His subconscious knew that he couldn’t keep you trapped in a relationship with him forever. So he let you go. He loves you, and you him. But like they always say if you love something you have to let it go. But letting you go it is better than losing the love completely if he continued to drain you. It would grow to become a even more resentful marriage than it already was. At least now there was still love left, and cherished memories not ruined by hate and anguish.

Season of the Witch
Jason, with the whole Arkham Knight thing over is at the manor recovering from the torture and trauma. One day he meets someone that might understand him more than he could ever realize.
“Where is it?” A young woman appeared in the middle of the Batcave. Bruce, still in his cowl, turned to you. “Where is my limited edition signed copy of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein in mint condition?” He knew this would be a gamble. This woman is a witch of the most dangerous sort. Dark longhorns protruded out of your pale forehead. She was seething.  Her eyes started to glow green. “I will destroy this place. Where do you get off stealing from-”
“Here.” A quiet voice from behind you calls your attention away from the Batman. A VERY large man stood behind her offering the book to you. “I wondered where he got this.” The woman became calmer once seeing her book was safe. Your eyes stopped glowing as you approached the person holding your book out to you. The man holding your book was handsome, but scarred. Not just physically but mentally as well, you felt turmoil and pain in his presents. She takes the book and nods her head. “Thank you.” He nods and shrinks back into the shadows then listens as his footsteps leave the cave and enter the manner.
“That’s my son Jason.” You turned back to Bruce now showing his face.
“Cool. Take my shit again and I’ll destroy this place. Got it?” Her eyes turned green again with warning.
And with that you vanished.
A couple days later Dick found himself walking into a small fabric store in downtown Gotham. It was run by no one other than the witch, who isn’t happy with his adopted father at the moment. Jason actually agreed to leave the house and tag along with him.
“Hey Little Wing, I’m going to check in on a friend. She runs a fabric stop downtown. Wanna come?” Jason looked up from his Jane Austin book and originally shook his head. Jason had been locked away and cut off since he abandoned the Arkham Knight persona and moved back into the manor. Dick remembers Bruce bringing him home. At first Dick didn't recognize Jason until Bruce told him. He and Alfred stayed awake for days looking after Jason. It took 4 months for Jason to look at Dick and Bruce.  It took at least another 3 months before Jason started to speak in general. He still doesn’t speak all that much but at least he’s willing to leave the mansion sometimes when prompted.  Dick told Jason that the witch he met yesterday would be there as she owns the shop. It took a little more convincing before Jason said yes to coming with him.
“Spooky I’m back!” Jason’s eyes almost popped out of his head as the witch he saw yesterday but you didn’t look like yourself. You had no horns. He felt disappointed as he liked your horns. In Jason’s eyes you shouldn’t have to hide yourself but know why you did.
“Uh Grayson, go away I’m busy this week and don't have time to- oh, Jason hello.” Jason nodded again at the women in front of him. “Grayson piss off.” She growls. “I don’t have time to “whip up” something for you because you and whoever are in an argument or you forgot a birthday or anniversary gift for someone. I have too many customers for that this week.” The witch said tidying up your shop. “Aw come on Spooks, don’t be like that! I always pay well.” Jason elbowed his older brother for being dense.
“That’s not the point dickhead.” He mumbled.
“You just want someone to talk to about books. Bruce told me he heard you talking to Alfred about how impressed you were with the quality of her mint condition-”
“Can it!” Jason growled.
“Huh…. well as of right now you, Dick, and Bruce are now allowed in or around my shop. He took my shit and you only come in when you need something and it pisses me off.” Grayson’s cheek got red as he realized what he had done to his friend. “But Jason?” She called turning back to the brothers. “You can come in anytime. I would love to talk about literature with you.”
“What’s your name?” Jason asked flat toned.
“Y/N L/N.” You answer. Jason nods again. “If you’d like to meet me at the bookshop across the way tomorrow, I’ll show you some of my favorite books.” Jason again nods and leaves with Grayson. Back at the manor, Dick enthusiastically told Bruce what had happened.
“You were right. They took to each other immediately. But we aren’t welcome back for a while.” Bruce only chuckled.
“I figured.”
Jason woke up that morning and actually wanted to get up out of bed. He took a shower, brushed his teeth and headed downstairs feeling proud that he was able to complete those tasks. Some days he doesn't want to get out of bed, some days he doesn’t want to leave his room but today was different.
“WOW! UP BEFORE 12!?! AMAZING!” Dick teased. Jason felt annoyance flare up inside him.
“Master Grayson!” Alfred scolded. “Master Todd is excited about his day and you will do well to support him today.” Dick pouted like a three year old and muttered an apology. Jason nodded to Alfred then headed out the door. Jason was surprised to see that you were already waiting for him at the book shop. You had two cups in your hand. Panic started to bubble up in Jason, he hoped you weren’t a coffee drinker. Caffeine does not mesh well with his anxiety.
“Good Morning Jason, I got you some herbal tea. Got one for myself too.” She said in a monotone voice. “If you don’t want it, just say so, no feelings will be hurt. I’ll drink both.” Jason started to calm.  He nodded and reached for the tea. He wanted to thank her but words fought him. She didn’t take a second thought and led him inside.
“Hello Felix, hello Sasha.” She greeted the people behind the counter. “Hello Darling!” Sasha said excitedly, hugging you. “How are you? Who is this?” Jason swallowed and opened his mouth.
“This is Jason. He and I are going to be here for a bit.” Sasha blinked and smiled.
“I’ll close! This way you can be yourself.”Sasha gasped and looked at Jason. “I-uh.”
“He knows Sash. Don’t worry.” Jason breathed in and out. You were taking care of everything and didn’t even know it. Jason started to feel weirdly safe until he realized Felix was staring daggers into him.
“Felix?” Sasha called. The man broke eye contact with Jason and turned to Sasha. “Come on love! Say hello!” Jason was very good at reading people and he could tell right away that Felix had a thing for you but for some reason he is with Sasha. Felix put on a good face and stretched out his hand to Jason when he caught s glimpse of the scarred up skin on Jason’s hand.
“Dude…was your hand ran through a shre-”
“Finish that sentence and I’ll make you eat your tongue.” You sneer, eyes starting to glow. Felix dropped back. Sasha turned to her boyfriend and scolded him then closed the blinds.  Once they signaled that they were good, you turned back into the horned witch Jason met two days earlier.  “The horns scare the locals. One time a mob wanted to burn me alive cause they thought I was the devil.” Jason nodded his head. You saw his eyes become soft as if he wanted to apologize for others behavior.  You waved him off and took his hand. Jason was about to pull back as he didn’t want you to feel his rough hands. Immediately you dropped his hand. “Sorry, I should have asked first. Is it OK if I take your hand?” Jason nodded but still felt uncomfortable. “No it’s not. That’s OK. Come, I want to show you something.” Jason didn’t know how she was guessing his emotions and feelings then realized, you're a witch. Duh. Wait. You can feel it, feel everything he’s feeling. The pain, panic, rage…calm.  Felix then put a hand on your shoulder to which you jumped back and hissed in pain.
“Felix!” Sasha gasped. “Your ring is made of iron! That burns her remember?” Felix looked like he was the one who got hurt and stepped back. You look at your shoulder, a burn mark has formed but quickly healed up. Jason’s eyes caught yours.
"Sorry." Felix mumbled then went back behind the register.
“I’m good.” You reassure him. “ Come on.” Jason nodded and followed you to the back of the library. You looked back and relieved a glass case that had an original Jane Austin manuscript.  Jason’s eyes lit up. You felt yourself smile a little, seeing him excited over something you feel light. Jason looked at the manuscript in aw. “Do you wanna look at it closer?” Jason’s head snapped to you. His heart started to race. With a lift of her hand, you made the book float out of the case and hover in front of Jason. “I can flip through it if you want. Obviously, I can’t let you hold it.” Jason watched as the pages flipped, seeing Jane Austin’s notes and thought about her story. Once the book was placed back in its case Jason and Y/N spent the day looking through books and giving their opinions on them.
Jason was in a good mood when he returned to the manner. He didn’t feel like souring his good mood so he tried to sneak back up to his room. Once he closed the door and turned around the light clicked on. Dick had been waiting for him.
“You spent all day with Spooks and you thought I was gonna let that go?” Jason rolled his eyes.
“Come on. Come ON! Tell me what happened!” Dick sounded like a teenage boy who's never been around a woman before trying to get this brother who is a stud to tell him the mysteries of the women. Jason shook his head and grabbed his book. “We went to the bookstore.” He said casually.
“For 8 hours?!” Dick asked. Jason flinched at Dick’s loudness. You had been soft spoken when talking to him, so accommodating but that’s because you are a witch. You feel things very deeply than most. Jason smiled as he felt something in him start to heal, slightly. All he knew was, you were going to pick him up tomorrow after your shop closed and take him to an apothecary. Whatever that was, Jason was just happy he found someone like him but instead of causing destruction, heals. Suddenly dread started to bubble in him, he destroyed almost everything he touches…what if.
“Don’t.” Dick’s voice broke through Jason’s thoughts. “Don’t get in your head. Remember the feeling she gave you.” Jason’s eyes squinted, not happy that Dick was able to read his mind so well. “Look, I've known Spooks for a long time. When we first met, she lost control of her power because someone close to her cut her wings off and did other harmful things. Jason felt like cold water was poured on him. “She…never really recovered from that. For years, she went around killing a lot of uh...people…who....” Jason knew what Dick was doing. He was trying to censor things so Jason wouldn’t get triggered. “It’s not your story to tell, so don’t tell it. Dick nodded then patted Jason’s leg leaving him with his thoughts.
It was a bad day. Jason couldn’t move and everything hurt. His body ached as the weather changed and hurt his joints. His head was foggy and pounding, yet he wanted to get up and see you. Would you hate him if he cancelled? Jason couldn’t even focus on one thing before slipping unconscious. He didn’t know how long he had been asleep but while later his scenes came back, his body wasn’t aching as much, his head was less foggy and a dull headache was all that remained. Jason opened his eyes to see candles around his room, the smell of lilac and vanilla was faint but comforting. He started to sit up when he caught someone walking in with a metal tray. He knew it was tea as Alfred often carried tea in for Jason on his bad days. Which is why his breath stopped when the person who walked in spoke.
“Oh good you’re up.” Jason snapped his head to the voice. It was you, horns and all. You’re here? Why? He tried to speak but still didn’t have the strength. “Don’t even try. You’ve been out for most of the day. Your body is still not 100%. I made tea though, it should help with the pain.” Jason’s brow furrowed as you helped him sit up. Once the pillow was propped against Jason’s back, you brought the tea over. “It’s a compilation of Vervain, turmeric and honey.” Jason blinked. Where the hell do you get your tea. “You should feel special. I don’t make tea from scratch for just anyone.” Surprisingly he huffed a small laugh out.
“You…made…” You nodded. “Sure did. Vervain is to help you sleep and the turmeric is for the pain. Honestly, I don't like prescription grade stuff honestly.” You say handing him the cup only to see his hands shaking. “Are you strong enough to hold it?” Jason nodded, not wanting to feel weak. He took the tea from you and got as far as his chin before his hands gave out, yet no pain came. Instead Jason opened his eyes to see the cup and tea surrounded in a green light. The cup turned upright and the tea placed itself back in. Jason turned to you, your hand was up controlling the cup. “It was a good effort.” You say matter-of-factually. The cup set itself down on the bedside table. Though his joints creaked, his heart started to warm him.
“Thanks.” Jason finally got out. You waved him off.
“I wanted to show you my apothecary didn’t I? All the herbs that’s in your tea I got.” Jason nodded. A question still lingered. He didn’t ask but wanted to know so bad.
“Did you…make me feel better?” He asked. “No.” You said flatly. “I don’t use magic on unconscious people unless I 1. Know them well or 2 life threatening.” Jason tried to hide the relief on his face. “I’m not going to make you uncomfortable.” You say in a soft voice. Dick’s voice entered Jason’s head and he found himself wanting to ask you about your past. But for today, he just wanted to be in your company.
It took three days for Jason to fully recover from his episode but after a couple weeks he was with you at your sewing shop helping you restock.
“You have a lot of fabric that you sold.” He said, picking up tons of boxes with ease.
“Prom season is upon us.” You say. “A lot of rich parents want a one of a kind dress for their spoiled brats.” Jason laughs. You’re funny, you make him laugh and he feels safe with you. He hopes you feel the same with him as these past few weeks. You’re a nice friend for him to have and you seem to be liking him too since Dick and Bruce were still not allowed in or around the shop. “Ah.” The rest of the day went off without a hitch. You had ordered Belly Burgers for delivery as you both don't like socializing. Unsurprisingly, you knew his order for Belly Burger. Jason went home that  day with a weird feeling in his stomach. He noticed it when you offered to drive him home.
We can take my bike.” You had said. Jason half expected an actual bike instead of a badass motorcycle. Jason then showed you his bike and proposed a race jokingly but instead ended up racing with you through the streets of Gotham. When he got back to the manor, Jason felt happy for the first time in a long time. You had made him feel like a person again and he actually enjoyed himself with another person. Jason made his way up to his room and opened the door. He made his way to his bed, put his things down and made his way to the bathroom to get ready for bed.
“How’d your date go?” Jason rolled his eyes and turned to his other brother, Tim who was dating Barbra. “What? I can’t ask?”
“It wasn’t a date.” Jason mumbled brushing his teeth. Tim smirked in the door frame.
“Then why aren’t you calling me names right now?” Tim said, leaning against the frame.
“Because he’s in a good mood.” Barbra chimed in, standing by Tim. “Why doesn’t everyone cram into the bathroom?” Jason grumbled, spitting out this toothpaste. Tim and Barbra laughed. “It’s nice to see you happy Jason.” Jason whipped his mouth and faced the two not knowing what to say to that so he just nodded. With that, Tim and Barbra left so Jason could head to sleep. He didn’t know what he’d see you next but couldn’t wait till he could.
The Joker had escaped from Arkham again and to top it all off, he went on a rampage blowing up buildings and yours was caught in the crossfire. No one could get a hold of you. Jason couldn’t get a hold of you. Panic was rising in him quickly as he watched the news report in the Batcave. No one had been found in the wreckage yet.
“Any sign of her?” Dick asked. Bruce shook his head. Jason felt his temper rising.
“After everything he did to me,” Jason growled. “You let him live and look at what he’s done yet again.” Jason’s voice started to rise. Tim and Barbra looked at each other while Dick stood between Jason and Bruce.
“Jason I-” Bruce didn’t have time to finish. A portal opened up in the Batcave and a body dropped out. It was you but you were moving very slowly as if you were hurt. Jason raced over to you.
“Where have you been? You weren’t answering your phone I thought…” He trailed off.
“Sorry.” You sounded in pain. “I was busy getting shot.” You revealed a bullet hole in your shoulder, a bullet was still in. “Felix decided to confess, broke up with Sasha,” You took a breath and continued while Alfred started to sit down and prepare to get the bullet out. “I rejected him and he got mad.” Jason pulled you up carefully, holding you so your back was against his front. Helping Alfred get a better angle of the bullet. Meanwhile, Jason was thinking of eight ways to kill Felix. “He’s dead.” You assured Jason. Bruce’s head snapped towards you. “Relax Holier than Thou, he died when my shop collapsed.”
“I don’t understand.” Dick started crouching down to your level. “Why aren’t you healing instantly?” You didn’t really feel like talking anymore. Your head was swimming and you were getting weaker.
“Iron bullet.” Jason guessed. You nodded. Finally, Alfred got the bullet out and your skin pulled itself together. You exhaled fully and focused on getting your breathing back to normal.
“Thank you.” You breathed looking at Alfred.
“Of course miss.” Jason shifted behind you, thinking he was going to help you up, you started to move until he stopped you.
“Hold on.” You then felt one of his arms under your legs while the other supported your back. You wrapped your arms around his neck, a little uncomfortable with the closeness but that was because you were weak and couldn’t defend yourself at a moment's notice. “Relax. I’m just taking you upstairs. You’re gonna need a couple hours to recover.” Dick’s mouth dropped. This witch, the same witch that threatened Batman a couple months ago, wasn't protesting when Jason was holding her. Carrying her. He couldn’t believe it.  Jason made his way to him room, carrying you up many grand staircases.
“Ya know I could have walked up myself if you just waited 30 minutes.” You muttered trying not to blush.
“Yeah but you look like you were going to pass out, so I figured you could pass out on a comfortable bed.” Jason answered. You hummed. “You’ll be sleeping in my room, I wanna keep an eye on you for the next couple hours.” Your head snapped toward Jason who laughed at your reaction. “Do you think I’m the type to take advantage of someone weaker?” You rolled your eyes.
“That’s not why I reacted that way, you moron.” You mumbled. “This is just weird for me.” “What? Someone carrying you?”
“Someone caring.” Jason stopped and looked into your eyes. Once again words escaped him so he continued to carry on to his bedroom. Once he got in, he placed you on the bed and closed the bedroom door.
“I like my privacy.” He said turning to you. You were looking at his book collection. “Which one are you looking at?”
“The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.” You say. Jason pulled the book off the shelf and made his way over to you.
“Get comfortable.” Jason said. You raised an eyebrow. “Just…do it.” You got comfortable on Jason’s bed. He sits next to you and opens the book.
“You’re going to read to me?” You ask. Jason nodded. “Why?” You ask looking down. Jason swallowed.
“I care.” You look back at him, but he was already flipping to the first chapter. Jason doesn’t know what chapter you fell asleep on, but he woke up the next morning cuddling you. His arms were around your waist keeping you close. Jason smiled to himself, but then remembered who he was and shot up in bed startling you.
“What?!” You asked. Jason shook his head. “Nothing…bad dream.” You nodded.
“Do you-?
“Want breakfast?” He interrupted scrambling out of bed. “Uh sure.” With that Jason was out the door leaving you very confused.
You teleported down to the kitchen, already changed in new clothes.
“Good morning Spooks! You staying over again tonight?” You opened your mouth to answer but Jason again interrupted you.
“No. She’s leaving after breakfast.” Dick looked between the two of you looking just as confused as you are. “Oh uh…where are you going to stay?” Tim asks.
“At my apartment.” You answer. Barbra gasps. “YOU HAVE AN APARTMENT?” You nod.
“Did you think I lived at my shop?” Tim nodded.
Breakfast was silent and odd as no one could understand why Jason was acting so distant now. You had your suspicions but didn't say anything.  When it was time to leave you said thank you to Alfred and Bruce again for helping you. Alfred then gave you tubs of some easy reheat meals for you to take home. Knowing better, you didn’t refuse. You sent them back to your house via magic of course, as Jason walked you outside. Once you crossed the threshold to the outside, your horns disappeared not wanting to draw too much attention.
“I’ll drive you home.” Jason said, throwing you a helmet.  You caught it then, got on Jason’s motorcycle. You wrap your arms around his waist, noticing he was pulling away slightly, still you didn’t say anything. It was a long awkward drive to your apartment and it didn’t get better when you got off the bike. You open your mouth to say goodbye when Jason speaks first.
“I don’t think we should see each other for a while.” You hum. “OK.” You answer turning away and making your way up the stairs that lead to your porch. Jason grabbed your arm.
“OK? That's all you have to say? You’re not mad?” You sighed and turned back to Jason who was the confused one. “I told you. I’m not going to make you uncomfortable.” Jason let go of your arm and watched you as you disappeared into your apartment. What he didn’t  see were the tears running down your face when you closed the door. He cares, huh? You swallow the lump in your throat and the tears fall rapidly.
“Y/N?” Jason didn’t even try to cover the worry in his voice from the other side of the door. “I know what I said last time hurt you but Dick’s been freaking you cause you haven't been answering him.” No answer again. It’s a lie. Dick wasn’t worried, Jason was. You hadn’t contacted him since he dropped you off at your apartment. It had been a month and Jason just wanted to give you space hoping you’d reach out. He couldn’t bring himself to do it, pride was always going to be his downfall. He started going out with Dick and Bruce on patrol again, even took up a vigilante name, Red Hood. Jason did try to track you down when he was on patrol but only found your shop, now rebuilt (Bruce had a hand in that), closed for the day. It’s like you were actively hiding from him. And actually you were not, until now. You had walked into your apartment building about 5 minutes after Jason arrived, you were currently hiding in the stairwell, waiting for him to leave. You were hurt and still wanted to keep your distance. Dick had actually contacted you for a case a couple weeks ago yet never mentioned if he told Jason or not. From what Jason said, he didn’t. You closed your eyes and when you opened you were back in your apartment when you heard Jason knock again
“If you’re there please open up.” You considered but stayed in your spot not wanting to move in case he heard. You hadn’t spoken to Sasha, who was taking the news of Felix’s betrayal hard. She didn’t want to be around you or anyone at the moment which you understood otherwise you would have asked her to come out of her apartment and tell Jason to go. Somehow, she must have gotten your silent message because you heard the door across the hall open.
“She’s not home.” Sasha’s voice rang out.
“Do you know where she is?” Jason asked.
“No. And even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you.” Yikes. Easy Sasha.
“She told you what happened?” Jason sounded pissed.
“No. But I’ve been listening to you for the past half hour and putting the pieces together. You won’t see her. She won’t make herself known to you if you have hurt her. I haven't seen her either. I said some things I regret.” You just smiled. I already forgave you Sasha. “She told me about Felix…and how he died. I just can’t believe she left him there though.” Your breath hitched. You didn’t tell Sasha that Felix had shot you because she started screaming at you and then slammed the door in your face.
“That’s because he fucking shot her.” Jason growled. Sasha gasped.
“He-what? Shot her? What-I-she didn’t-” Sasha babbled. “Now I feel even more like a jackass. If you do find her, tell her to come see me…tell her I’ll listen and that I’m sorry.” You swallowed roughly.
“If I ever find her.” Jason mumbled and seemingly walked away. You waited for the apartment building door to open and close then for the sound of his bike driving away. You then went over Sasha's wanting to patch things up.
About 10pm, you were designing a wedding dress for Barbra, who called your store yesterday to ask you to design and create her wedding dress. You accepted.
“Oh and Jason won’t know I called. We are all letting him sweat it out.” You didn’t know how to respond to that.
“That isn’t necessary but I will have the designs ready for Thursday when you come in.” Barbra thanked you then hung up.  You were almost done picking out the fabric when you heard the window to your living room open. Boots touched the ground and a voice cut through the silence.
“Y/N?” Your jaw dropped, there is no way he broke in. You stepped out of your room to come face to face with the Red Hood. You folded your arms.
“Seriously.”
“You weren’t answering my calls.”
“You said we shouldn’t see each other for a while. I wasn’t going to pick up and have you say you changed your mind only to have you change it again and say you don’t want to see me. I don’t play those games.” You say flatly. Jason takes off his mask.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.” You blink.
“OK.”
“OK? That’s all you have to say?” You shrug. “I came all this way for an ‘OK’?” You scoffed.
“What did you expect? That I fell into your arms crying and saying how miserable it was without you? I know you're a romantic but books don’t portray real life well.” You knew you were being cold but that’s what happened when your heart gets broken, the cold numb feeling comes back. Jason could feel it and knew he wasn’t going to get a breakthrough while you were like this.
“Look…I came to say I was sorry and I said it. I mean it too. I was just scared of feeling close to someone again and I made a rash decision. When…when you want to talk, I’ll listen.” And with that he was back out the window. You closed it and went back to picking out fabric.
You had been so busy making Barbra’s dress that you almost missed the bell going off at the front door.
“Y/N!” Barbra shouted. You turned to her only to meet the eyes so Jason, not that you were surprised. He’s been watching you from the rooftops every night, well the Red Hood has. It seems that with the gain of this guardian angel, many have ventured to your shop more and more as they feel safer with the Red Hood watching over this part of Gotham. “IT LOOKS AMAZING! But..why aren’t you using magic?”
“Because I like everything done by my hand.” You answer plainly going back to pinning the dress. The base of it was done with a satin white train. Flowers and lace were scattered about the border of the gown.
“It’s far from done, but I need to make sure it fits you right.” Barbra nodded excitedly and took the dress into the changing room. Jason stood next to you, surprisingly the silence was not uncomfortable…for you at least. You spoke first.
“The Red Hood?” Jason chuckled.
“I needed something to do.” You hummed and finally looked at him. His eyes were brighter and clear. And OH MY he was huge! I mean he was big compared to anyone before but he put on a ton of muscle. “You seem good and the shop has been busier.” You smile slightly.
“So you stalking me isn’t just a nightly activity?” You ask, thinking he was going to blush but he didn’t, but he did smirk. “Gotta make sure you don’t come crashing into the cave again. Though I have no problem carrying you like a princess if you need me to.” Jason’s smile widened as you blushed, not expecting him to be so…cocky.
“Well?” You both turned to see Barbra in the dress you made. You looked over the dress, of course it looked beautiful on her but something was missing. THE VEIL! You turned to pick up a manikin head that was holding the veil you made. You brought it to Barbra and placed it on her head. You then pinned some places that you wanted to fix, not noticing how intensely Jason was watching you until you heard. “Jason she’s not gonna catch fire if you blink.” Barbra snickered. You didn’t look back at Jason, only shook your head. “There. Carefully take off the dress and I’ll make the adjustments for you.” Barbra nodded and went back into the dressing room.
“You made that?” Jason asked.
“I don’t get good business cause I’m pretty.” You retort, making Jason laugh.
“Fair enough.” Jason said. “Ouch!” You turned back to Jason who was holding his hand, he then pulled out a pin. “Fuck.” He hissed. “Note to self, don’t touch any projects that are half done.” You made your way over to him and held his hand in yours. A nettle prick was leaking blood, you looked up at him to ask for permission. “Go ahead.” He whispered. With that, your fingers started to glow and Jason’s skin started to pull itself back together. “Thought you were supposed to be a deadly witch.” His voice was low, just enjoying being close to you.
“I am.” You answer. “So don’t go around announcing I healed you. I’ll lose my reputation for being ruthless.”
“Should I leave you two alone?” Your head snapped to Barbra who was holding the dress and smiling widely. You let go of Jason’s hand and took the dress from Barbra.
“I’ll finish the alterations then send it to you.” You say setting up the dress to start the altercations.
“Thank you Y/N. Truly, it’s so magical.” You laugh.
“I’m glad you like it.” Barbra then jumped on you, giving you a big hug. “Oh.” You say hugging her back. She let go and handed you an invitation.
“Please come. You are hand making my dress. Please.” You smile and accept the invitation.
“Of course.” You say, not really wanting to come to a social event. On this side of town they don’t care that you’re a witch if you hide the horns but the socialites of Gotham don’t like you at all. Thinking you are in service to the devil. With that Jason and Barbra left the shop leaving you to get back to the dress.
Finally, the wedding was upon us. You ended up making Dick, Jason, and Tim custom suits. During that time, Jason made sure to come to every appointment even ones that weren’t his. You two had been patching things over, him flirting with you every chance he gets and your witty responses always making him want to mess with you more. But now, you want to run and hide. The people in the room with you started pointed and whispered about you. You can hear them.
“It’s her.” “The one with the horns? I don’t think so, I don’t see them.” You just wanted to say congratulations to Tim and Barbra then leave. You felt like you were crawling in your skin.
“She’s pretty though…probably how she seduces her victims.” Your heart felt like it was shaking your body.  Trying to calm yourself down you went to look for a drink when you almost ran into Jason. “Oh! My gosh, I am so-” You started. When he handed you a drink.
“Gin?” You laughed out a breath and took the drink thanking him.
“That man really shouldn’t bother with a creature like that.” You took a sip trying to ignore it.
“Say that again and see what happens.” Jason sneers. The man and women stutter excuses trying to make it seem they weren’t talking about you. “Piss off.” And they did. Jason looked back to you and offered his arm. You raised an eyebrow. “What? This is the only time I’ll be polite like this. Take advantage of it.” You took his arm and he led you to the rest of the Wayne Family. When Barbra saw you, her and Tim almost tackled you, thanking you over and over again for the clothes you made. “It was nothing really.” You try to brush off but of course they didn’t let you.
“We also told all the press that it was here where we got our wedding attire from.” Barbra said excitedly. “You might need to hire more help.” You shook your head.
“I’m magic, remember?” Barbra’s brow furrowed.
“But you said…oh.” She breathed. “The ones you do yourself…you do for people that mean a lot to you.” You nod and see Dick start to tear up.
“Don’t make it weird Dick.” You say finishing your drink. Jason takes it and places it on the bar. Bruce then made his way over to you guys.
“Tim, Barbra? Congratulations. Y/N, a word?” He asks, offering his arm. You nod and take it. Once you were far enough away from the group Bruce spoke.
“I must apologize for stealing your book a year a ago.” You smile and look back at Jason, who of course was looking back at you. Making sure you were alright. “I’m glad you did.” You answer. Bruce nods and gestures to Jason to take you back. He’s by your side in seconds and offers his hand. “Dance with me?” You smile.
“Thought you’d never ask.”
By the end of the night, you and Jason had run off into the many gardens of the Manor where the wedding was held.  You took off your heels as you both walked and talked for hours. Jason notices how the plants would perk up more when you pass, how dead leaves came back to life and how wounded trees repaired themselves. A deadly witch? You couldn’t be. Not to him.
“You can wear your horns ya know.” He said. You chuckle and show them. “I like them.” Jason says, touching them fondly.
“I noticed.” You say. “You're the first to not be uncomfortable with them.”  Jason hummed.
“I’m never uncomfortable with you. Just..stupid sometimes.”
“So am I.” You whisper looking at the flowers. Jason’s hand came on your cheek. He turned your head back to face him. He takes both hands to the side of your face and kisses you. You kiss back and laugh as you pull away.
“What?” Jason asks, smiling.
“You kissed me underneath the moonlight in the rose garden. Can you be any more sappy?” Jason laughed then dipped you, making you gasp.
“Don’t challenge me.” With that he went in for another kiss.
