I think the main conflict of DRV3 being the relationship between lies, belief, and truth. Truth being the most important aspect since the main character, Shuichi, is practically the arbiter of it.
There are two other characters who are like that though- Kaito Momota who is belief. And Kokichi Ouma who is lies. Both are almost full representations of their concepts. Good and bad. And how they augment and impair the Truth.
So it's kind of beautiful that in Chapter 5, Kaito and Kokichi, the epitome of their concepts- switch roles. Kokichi has to put all his trust in Kaito, and believe that Kaito will follow through on their plan. And Kaito has to become a lie, obfuscating the truth and his true intentions through misdirection and confusion.
In the end though. The truth won over both of them.

Doomed by the narrative? Maybe. But they're writing their own script anyways

I've seen the ch4 closing argument tons of times but I just now realized:
Miu is drawn as a silhouette right before she was going to kill Kokichi with the hammer, but then in full colour when Gonta begins strangling her. She's depicted as the Blackened until Gonta forcibly changes the course of the story and her role in it.
