First Quarter Moon: take action! What I find so intriguing is that the Moon will be at 0:36 Aquarius - and that all-important Jupiter-Saturn conjunction on December 21, is at 0:29 Aquarius. What do you want that to be like? It’s going to be important to keep an open mind - which will also be difficult. We may be so obsessed over one thing that we fail to notice something else. We may be torn between passionate involvement and dispassionate observation. All at the same time, too. Focus on what would be the most healing approach to all our problems. There will be more energy to actually do something, the further we go into living the day.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Crescent Moon (gather and mobilize resources)
  • Moon/Capricorn void of course (from yesterday)
  • Sun/Scorpio sextile Vesta/Virgo, 2:33 am MDT
  • Moon enters Aquarius, 6:17 am MDT
  • Lunar Phase: First Quarter Moon (take action, build new structures), 0:36 Aquarius, 7:23 am MDT
  • Mars Rx/Aries square Pallas Athene/Capricorn, 10:35 pm MDT

Looking ahead to Saturday: early stability, later confusion

(Please note that MDT is six hours behind UT.)

I had this all written up and the wifi crapped out on me! Grrrrr.

So. The main story today is the Sun entering Scorpio. We’re going to start taking life, and ourselves, a little more seriously. Especially with that sextile between the Sun, and a newly-into-Virgo Vesta. Self-obsession, if we aren’t careful. This is also the kind of day where we may deliberately set ourselves up to fail, just to prove some stupid point or other. There’s just so much seriousness. Venus trining all those Capricorn planets isn’t going to be much help, because she’s also got her hands full with minor (but painful) aspects with Eris and Uranus. Contrary for the sake of being contrary, I guess? The best use of the day will be to act and think and believe as realistically as possible, without succumbing to our pessimism. Think about what is practical and practicable right now, in order to achieve your goals.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Crescent Moon (gather and mobilize resources)
  • Moon/Capricorn
  • Transiting Vesta enters Virgo, 1:34 am MDT
  • Mars Rx/Aries semi-sextile Neptune Rx/Pisces, 3:10 am MDT
  • Pluto/Capricorn inconjunct North Node/Gemini, semi-sextile South Node/Sagittarius, 3:30 pm MDT
  • Transiting Sun enters Scorpio, 5:00 pm MDT
  • Venus/Virgo inconjunct Eris Rx/Aries, 7:12 pm MDT
  • Venus/Virgo sesquare Uranus Rx/Taurus, 9:04 pm MDT
  • Moon/Capricorn void of course, 10:35 pm MDT
  • Sun/Scorpio sextile Vesta/Virgo, 2:33 am MDT (Friday)

Looking ahead to Friday: future visions

I have a suspicion about this particular jaunt of the Moon through Capricorn. While these have been undeniably nasty and cold - this one may not be quite so ugly. The reason is that the Moon will make several flowing aspects: to Merc Rx, Venus, Juno, and Vesta - as well as the usual trine to Uranus Rx and sextile to Neptune Rx. All of a sudden whatever lofty principles we used to get through these times, seem a little closer and more real. Today’s problems are more concerned with communication, as Merc and Venus tangle with each other and the Nodes. Probably not anything super serious or fraught with peril - maybe just a bit of trouble over being too stubborn and unyielding in our thoughts and ideas.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Crescent Moon (gather and mobilize resources)
  • Moon/Sagittarius void of course (from yesterday)
  • Moon enters Capricorn, 12:44 am MDT
  • Sun/Libra trine Ceres/Aquarius, 7:53 am MDT
  • Mercury Rx/Scorpio sesquare North Node/Gemini, semi-square South Node/Sagittarius, 11:32 am MDT
  • Mercury Rx/Scorpio semi-square Venus/Virgo, 2:30 pm MDT
  • Venus/Virgo trine Pluto/Capricorn, 3:42 pm MDT
  • Venus/Virgo square North Node/Gemini and South Node/Sagittarius, 4:52 pm MDT
  • Transiting Vesta enters Virgo, 1:34 am MDT (Thursday)
  • Mars Rx/Aries semi-sextile Neptune Rx/Pisces, 3:10 am MDT (Thursday)

The week’s sole Opportunity Period is today, beginning at 15:28 UT. “Things can work really well during this OP; a fine time for play and social activity.” It’s almost like a nice recess! We just seem to be in a better mood today. Not a perfect mood. Underneath our bravado and optimism, we’re just the opposite - uncertain and pessimistic. But, sometimes when you put on a brave and positive front, you really become brave and positive. Just be very careful to keep clear of becoming brash and insensitive. The OP ends at 06:44 UT tomorrow, when the Moon enters Capricorn - also remember that “winging it” needs to be your plan only for “if all else fails.”

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Crescent Moon (gather and mobilize resources)
  • Moon/Sagittarius, void of course 8:38 pm MDT
  • Moon enters Capricorn, 12:44 am MDT (Wednesday)

Looking ahead to Wednesday: communication problems

Mercury Rx is causing trouble today, with its second-of-three aspects to Juno and Uranus. We’re due for some clarification with a second aspect - perhaps exactly how much we disagree with a significant other; perhaps some issue involving the “powerless” in our societies. (The first time for the oposition, Dolt 45 abruptly cut off stimulus negotiations.) Given a Sag Moon which makes flowing aspects today and tomorrow to the Sun, Mars Rx, Chiron Rx, and Eris Rx - and squares to Venus/Virgo and Neptune Rx/Pisces, too - some of the famed Sagittarian bluntness and tactlessness may trigger the Mercury situations. It may also make us a little too cocky and/or over optimistic about what resources we need to achieve our goals. Keep those feet on the ground.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: New Moon (set a new intention for the month)
  • Moon/Sagittarius
  • Venus/Virgo inconjunct Mars Rx/Aries, 1:03 am MDT
  • Venus/Virgo trine Jupiter/Capricorn, 1:35 am MDT
  • Mercury Rx/Scorpio conjunct Juno/Scorpio, 6:25 am MDT
  • Lunar Phase: Crescent Moon (gather and mobilize resources), 12:04 Sagittarius, 6:28 pm MDT
  • Mercury Rx/Scorpio opposite Uranus Rx/Taurus, 8:53 pm MDT

Looking ahead to Tuesday: respite

That doesn’t look like much, either, does it? Even the Moon isn’t very busy today. We’re concerned with secrets in communication, perhaps principally with things we’ve been holding inside - or that others have been holding inside. (What are they thinking about, anyway?) It’s entirely possible that we’ll just blurt something right out, or that we’ll be pushed to our limits and verbally explode - or that someone we know will do so. We’re in a kind of one-track mind and don’t want our focus disturbed. An Opportunity Period begins at 21:52 UT, lasting not quite 24 hours (until 21:43 UT Sunday). “Serious work is probably the best use for this OP,” advises Llewellyn.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: New Moon (set a new intention for the month)
  • Moon/Scorpio
  • Juno/Scorpio opposite Uranus Rx/Taurus, 1:19 am MDT (Sunday)

It isn’t looking all bad. I like the trine between Venus and Pallas Athene, especially since Venus is the ruler of Libra, the sign of today’s New Moon. “Take a sad song, and make it better.” Some of that energy is going to make an impact on whatever monthly intention we set. (The lunation falls into Ms M’s 12th House - she’s going to start meditating every day as soon as she gets home from work. Just pick some simple Libra type activity, tailored to whatever of your natal houses holds 23:53 Libra, and go for it.) We’re aware of others’ anger but at the same time we’re feeling a little detached from it; don’t cut yourself off emotionally, or it may come back to bite you in the butt.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Balsamic Moon (let go of the past, envision the future)
  • Moon/Libra
  • Lunar Phase: New Moon (set a new intention for the month), 23:53 Libra, 1:31 pm MDT
  • Venus/Virgo trine Pallas Athene/Capricorn, 3:22 pm MDT
  • Sun/Libra opposite Eris Rx/Aries, 4:10 pm MDT
  • Moon/Libra void of course, 4:11 pm MDT
  • Moon enters Scorpio, 11:05 pm MDT

We’re all feeling the opening lines from Shakespeare’s play Henry IV Part 1: “So shaken as we are, so wan with care / Find we a time for frighted peace to pant / And breathe short-winded accents of new broils / To be commenced in strands afar remote.” Seriously, is 2020 ever going to let up? We’re all exhausted from being buffeted about by this craptastic year. With both the Sun and the Moon in Libra, we feel it especially keenly today. And in the Balsamic lunar phase, we’re dog-tired and we need to rest. Weird time for the Sun to make flowing aspects to the Nodes, huh? That’s a very big hint, I believe, that the peace and tranquility we want is all in our minds.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Balsamic Moon (let go of the past, envision the future)
  • Moon/Libra
  • Sun/Libra square Pluto/Capricorn, 4:15 am MDT

Wednesday, October 14, 2020

There’s an Opportunity Period today, between 11:47 UT and 22:47 UT. Eleven good hours which are “useful for practical matters that have to do with existing projects.” Under the influence of that Juno-Nodes difficulty and tomorrow’s Sun-Pluto difficulty, don’t count on a lot of cooperation, though. If people aren’t trying to get you to neglect your own chores to help them with their work - they’ll be trying to tell you how to do your own thing. We really will seem wired to function best alone today. After the Moon enters Libra, we may feel a little lonesome.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Balsamic Moon (let go of the past, envision the future)
  • Moon/Virgo
  • Juno/Scorpio sesquare North Node/Gemini, semi-square South Node/Sagittarius, 10:31 am MDT

The Moon in Virgo, for the most part, will make very helpful aspects. We’re in a realistic frame of mind (with some surprising moments of wistfulness), and we see the practical value of letting go of the past. Envisioning the future may not come so easily today. The problem is everything else that’s going on: Sun opposite Mars, and Mercury’s retrograde station. We lack (or think we lack) strength, and we know better than to commit to something new when Merc is about to start going backwards. Yet just letting things happen seems too scary and/or imprudent. Not that 2020 is giving us many choices - or maybe, all the choices seem bad? We may need to just envision a balanced and just future (New Moon in Libra) and stop sweating the details for now.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Last Quarter Moon (turn away from, tear down old structures)
  • Moon/Virgo
  • Lunar Phase: Balsamic Moon (let go of the past, envision the future), 5:42 Virgo, 8:28 am MDT
  • Sun/Libra opposite Mars Rx/Aries, 5:26 pm MDT
  • Transiting Mercury stations retrograde, 11:40 Scorpio, 7:05 pm MDT

A good day, and as far as the rest of the week goes it’s all downhill from here - so let’s make the most of it! Coming off that Jupiter-Neptune sextile, we may be all in a glow or in some kind of Leo Moon fervor of optimism. Our egos seem strong. Be careful of believing your own hype, though. Maintaining that fervor through difficult times, is the real challenge. Anyone can be confident on a sunny day. Don’t be so enamored of your own magnificence that you miss a potential “hint” about the upcoming Mercury retrograde. I know it’s Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian followers (do I have any?) and Happy Indigenous People’s Day in the US - once the Moon enters Virgo, quite late for us, we’re ready to rest up for the coming week.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Last Quarter Moon (turn away from, tear down old structures)
  • Moon/Leo
  • Jupiter/Capricorn sextile Neptune Rx/Pisces, 1:06 am MDT
  • Moon/Leo void of course, 8:29 am MDT
  • Mercury/Scorpio sextile Venus/Virgo, 10:39 am MDT
  • Moon enters Virgo, 10:56 pm MDT

“Self-esteem issues on a day with a Leo Moon, Ms M?” Why, yes, kiddos. Look at that Libra Sun square Jupiter/Capricorn and inconjunct Neptune Rx/Pisces! We are second guessing ourselves, hell, third and fourth guessing - if you’ve taken on too much, this is probably the day you’ll (at least) begin to realize it. And if you’ve ventured seriously off course, not trying very hard or trying at all to be “spiritual” or good or kind, you’re going to feel that as well. What that Leo Moon is up to, is burying our embarrassment under a big pile of bravado and drama. Better to back out gracefully, if you can, from your over-commitments (which a waning Moon is good for). If you can’t, then put your head down and get it over with, so you can move on come the New Moon. It should be a fairly quick process. Around 20:50 UT, the mood shifts as we enter the latest Opportunity Period. Cautions Llewellyn, “We’re in the Last Quarter Moon and Mercury is moving slowly; this OP is still good for creativity and deep thinking, or even both together.” Ms M also thinks it’ll be great for some self-esteem repair. And look, the final Jupiter/Capricorn - Neptune Rx/Pisces sextile matures! Send out positivity.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Last Quarter Moon (turn away from, tear down old structures)
  • Moon/Leo
  • Sun/Libra square Jupiter/Capricorn, 7:34 am MDT
  • Sun/Libra inconjunct Neptune Rx/Pisces, 9:31 am MDT

What captures my attention today is the Venus/Virgo - Uranus Rx/Taurus trine. If the latter placement is trying to get us to become more comfortable with chaos and change, Venus/Virgo is looking for practical ways to do just that. Sustainability! That’s the ticket! (See how I made it GREEN?) Under this influence we’ll easily find several ways to “consume” less. Although I think, too, that the Cancer Moon may just be too emotionally exhausted to do much more than brainstorm, at least until she enters Leo. Perhaps the phrase or motto for today should be “find a sustainable way to nurture yourself just a little bit.”

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Last Quarter Moon (turn away from, tear down old structures)

HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY, JOHN LENNON!

Just a volatile day. Essentially there’s a cardinal grand cross between Mars Rx and Eris Rx in Aries, the Moon in Cancer, the Sun in Libra, and the usual suspects in Capricorn (Pallas Athene, Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn). Some of us want to play nice with monsters; others are enraged because they can’t have their own way 100% of the time (Ms M raises her hand). Into all that frustration and rage waltzes a nagging, nitpicking Virgo Venus. What do you think is bound to happen then? We may not even be aware of how violently angry we are, until it overcomes us. Stay focused and on task; do what you have to do to get through it; don’t let others try to involve you in their drama. Going into the Last Quarter Moon, let’s devote a little musing to which emotional habits we’ve outgrown and can jettison.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Disseminating Moon (teach, share; ease up on efforts)
  • Moon/Cancer
  • Venus/Virgo sesquare Pluto/Capricorn, 12:08 am MDT
  • Venus/Virgo sesquare Mars Rx/Aries, 1:37 am MDT
  • Mars Rx/Aries square Pluto/Capricorn, 7:09 am MDT
  • Lunar Phase: Last Quarter Moon (turn away from, tear down old structures), 17:10 Cancer, 6:40 pm MDT

Here in the western hemisphere, it may take a while for life to finally settle down enough to get on with the day’s work. We should get quickly enough on with it, as soon as the Moon enters Cancer. For a change, hahaha, we’re very caring towards other people and want to take care of them. Why not mend some fences? It’s important that we neither smother nor nag people half to death in the process, though. Let “practical compassion” be the guiding concept of the day. Team up - are you up for it?

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Disseminating Moon (teach, share; ease up on efforts)

Cam White thought there would be some kind of stunning news today, but I’m wondering if it came a day early for the US, with Dolt 45’s announcement about no more stimulus money for us paupers until after the election. That’s just the sort of mind boggler you’d expect from Mercury opposite Uranus. That sort of insanely poor judgement is also a hallmark of Sun square Pallas Athene. But Mercury is emphasized in particular because (1) Wednesday is Mercury’s day, (2) the Moon is in Gemini, and (3) Mercury enters its “Storm” today, as it slows down to moving less than 40’ of arc per day. This, says my Llewellyn’s 2020 Daily Planetary Guide, is effectively the beginning of the true Mercury Rx difficulties. What can we do? Use the Venus-Juno sextile to build some community, for one thing. We have so much more in common than the 0.1% wants us to believe.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Disseminating Moon (teach, share; ease up on efforts)

We continue our chatty mood, for the next couple of days. Also a lot of “jittery” physical energy; I expect lots of fidgeting today and tomorrow! Being mindful of how and what we communicate is important. We may just blurt something out if we aren’t careful. Maybe something hurtful, maybe information that really isn’t ours to share (ie blabbing someone else’s secrets), maybe boring everyone else with our usual blarney. We think we know everything and want to show off our mighty intellectual prowess! Whatever “it” is, “it” will most likely come back to bite us in the butt, very soon. Remember the old saying about having only one mouth, but two ears - we’re supposed to listen twice as much as we speak.

Probably the best day all week, especially if you can manage some time by yourself to rejuvenate and refocus and rededicate yourself. In other words, don’t waste Mars trine Vesta with both of them sextile the North Node! We’re still in an Opportunity Period, too, up until 04:03 UT tomorrow when the Moon enters Gemini. Although whoever wrote the blurb at Llewellyn said that it’s good “for anything from romance to serious work,” I’d say that today we’re more successful at the “serious work” piece. The Moon going into the Disseminating phase, and then into the sign Gemini a few hours later, may make everyone a little more chatty than they have been. We may not be hearing things we like, and/or agree with - which goes for the people who are listening to us, too. They may not want to countenance what you have to say.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: Full Moon (illumine, fulfill; pour everything we have into it)

It only looks chill - and with Pluto stationing direct (the last of 2020’s Capricorn placements to do so) that “chill” may end up cutting to the bone. We really would rather relax today, but we have to earn it. Early arguments lead to some discomforting revelations, and we aren’t as sure of ourselves (deep down) as we want to be. (Or as much as we want others to believe.) As the day moves on we’re likely to go to great lengths to “prove” ourselves, and/or to camouflage insecurities. But in the midst of all this we get an Opportinity Period! It begins at 12:59 UT today and lasts until 04:03 UT Tuesday the 6th. “Anything from romance to serious work,” says Llewellyn.

Kind of a longish void Aries Moon to have to contend with. Are you sure your bathroom is spotless? We have a lot of emotional energy, jangling away at our nerves; best to find a positive outlet for it. There’s also Mars Rx conjunct Eris Rx, for the second time - also an immense energy drain if we aren’t channeling it well. (Or if we can’t channel it due to circumstances.) We’ll be ready for a break once the Moon enters Taurus, and a couple of hours later trines the ruler of Taurus, Venus. Treat yourself but don’t overdo it - Moon/Taurus can be vastly indulgent, so let’s hope Venus/Virgo keeps us from going overboard.
