You may recognize the hook from recent popular songs (in my day it was "Your Woman" by White Town), but this is the original version by Lew Stone & His Monseigneur Band.
Many thanks to @hellsehend for the footage of daddy dancing! 💜🎩
Formal document from the National Institute For the Blind supporting the formation of a "Dance Band" led by Claude Bampton (a band George Shearing was a member of early in his career)
It felt like a lot of the songs got lost in time. I can definitely see the pop scene loving this album when it was released in the 1940s, but for a 2023 crowd, it falls a bit flat. Although, I may have a bit of a bias, having only listened to this album for Frank Sinatra (who’s two tracks were some of my favorites off the album!)
See under the cut for a song by song review of the album.
None But the Lonely Heart -> 2/10
Too gloomy for me.
Will You Still Be Mine? -> 8/10
It’s very cute, but dragged on just a biiiit too much for my personal liking. Still a sweet song though!
Everything Happens to Me -> 8.5/10
He is so me. I absolutely LOVE when Frank Sinatra sings a more somber / “blue” track.
Swing High -> 6/10
Sure is a swingin’ track!
Oh! Look at Me Now -> 7/10
Gog I wish that were me… manifesting song for sure.
Little Man With the Candy Cigar -> 1/10
Slow, and felt like it dragged on without any direction.
Swingin’ on Nothin’ -> 4/10
I’ve heard better.
Not So Quiet, Please -> 3/10
It fell kind of flat for me. It felt like it had 20 places it wanted to go, and didn’t even book a ticket.
For this illustration the coincidence is quite funny.
It's a concept idea I had last year, as usual I did a quick sketch and left it for later.
Then at the beginning of September I got the urge to finally draw it, (Also to provide a little entertainment for those who don't follow my project on Ko-fi), so I improved the skull pile idea by putting decaying skeletons in motion instead. And the date of my wips on instagram proves it, it was the day before the LA show where there was this coregraphy with skeletons lifting Copia off the ground.
Like I said, perfect timing. Pure coincidence. Hehe.
