oh boy, I just saw the post about dragons in FE are inherintly bad and I'm gonna weigh in about Jugdral cause that's where my braincells are.

as already pointed out, the evil dragon Loptous became a problem after Galle/Gair/whatever his localised name is went out of his way to travel to Archanea in search of power and found it in the form of a bloodpact with Loptous. Also nobody said Loptous is innocent whatsoever, so no idea where that came from?? (And yes, Loptous resided in the tome and descends into anyone with the fitting Holy Blood. Only at the end he's released after Julius is defeated.) Anyways, Galle returns, establish his funky new empire and everything starts going awry for several years. "When it came to that, the other group of dragons who were then living in secret came to discuss what they ought to do. So, in the middle of that discussion, their leader proposed tentatively trusting the humans and intervening, and they distributed their power to the soldiers who remained until the end--that's a summary of the event that we call The Miracle at Darna Fortress. [...] Afterward, humanity preserved the teachings of the gods AKA dragons, and for several decades, continued the era of peace. However…… as time passed, the teachings of the gods were slowly forgotten, and humanity became arrogant." - Kaga [Source]

And that's quite literally the theme of FE4! Humanity's hubris once someone gains an inch of power. In the span of barely 100 years the people went from waging war against Loptous to waging war against one another because everyone believes themselves to be in the right. (Importance of the word "seisen" and the implications it has in Japan) "Seeing this, the dragons from whom the Twelve Crusaders drew their power regretted aiding the humans, and agreed never to intervene in the human world again."

That is until Forseti/Lewyn, who helped out a little. He only sheltered Julia for several years, taught Arthur wind magic, helped out in Leonster, watched over Lene (if he's her father) and basically provided guidance for the new generation. So yeah, I guees he helped out "a little". He also delivered this banger of a quote: "Yeah... Consider this a lesson, Seliph. Good and evil can't be easily reduced to such simple, black-and-white ideals. If you must hate, hate the evil which lurks in us all, not the individual. Never forget this."

In short, FE4 is not a game about "dragons bad". Yes, there is a dragon, who is bad but overall the shittiness in Jugdral stems from people being greedy and arrogant. Galle also would have established his empire if the power came from a freaking salmon, it's all about power and what it does to people! And Julius in the end is just a vicitm of circumstances.

Oh damn, this is long but I couldn't just let this be, sorry for that. Also I wouldn't think too hard about Ced/Sety being named after the crusader. I think this is more of a case of Kaga not being subtle/being biased towards Lewyn x Erin, why else would she name her son after an crusader even if Lewyn isn't her husband. Of course, there can be an analysis in that direction but Kaga had his clear biases and I think this is one of them.

I'm not posting as much about Jugdral as I used to be, but I welcome any kind of discussion about the verse!

I don't know what was wrong with that person, but they apparently didn't want to talk, because if you rebuked them or disagreed, you were apparently a terf and whatnot, and then they brought their degree and I nope'd out of it because it just isn't worth it - like, seriously, I do not understand how you can brag about academics when we're talking about video games, but the more you know...

Imagine if everytime someone criticised Thatcher and some people would immediately jump on you affirming you said she was "stupid because she has ovaries" - no mate, I've never talked about ovaries, and quite frankly I don't really want to.

Jugdral is the verse where we don't see manaketes and physical dragons ruining things - Jugdral is the verse where humans abuse power, let it come from a dragon or a jack'o'latern, to do cruel, petty or stupid things because Jugdralians are shitty people.

But for every Raydrick out there, we also have an Amalda, an Eyvel or a Siggy.

Dragons left, Forseti tries to help and guide... it doesn't always work - and the world would have been doomed if Manfroy wasn't a petty bastard - but his MO is to let humans deal with their own mess, he is just here to give directions.

IDK about Ced/Sety, but I thought it was maybe just a callback to the OG Crusader and founder of Silesse - since Erinys becomes Queen, maybe she would have found it nice for her child to be named after the previous Hero and founder of Silesse?

And this is mainly why I really do not want a remake for Jugdral to be announced, I know some people like that person did would, not misunderstand, but refuse even to listen or to consider what the game wanted to tell, if it can be used to prop, usually, Supreme Leader and her nauseabond take that people with scales are the reason why humans suffer.

There can be no discussion with someone who refuses to engage, and I've seen it in real life, it becomes quickly tiresome.

In real life, I cannot block those people but in the fandom?

I can cure my own experience, and yet, as we saw with FE16, it will spread around like an unattended chamber pot. At first I thought Serenes might be the last bastion of common sense, since people who played and talked about past games, who (used?) are open to discussion could kindly rebuke them, and if it ever escalated mods are here to remove their access to debating spaces if it becomes clear they do not want to engage in any discussion and are just here to troll...

But Serenes let Beta ruin the FE16 subforum for several months, with the famous "one day one bad take" and everyone who disagreed would either be harshly rebuked or straight out ignored, so...

So I don't know if it counts as gatekeeping, I hope not, but even being worried about the question raises an issue about the current state of the fandom, are you really gatekeeping when you just ask of someone who wants to debate/talk/engage to play the game or read the script? When you ask them to answer and reply with canon material, and not their latest recipe on how to make egg-less mayo?

The True to Life-Darna

Clothed in the scent of the swan and capybara. The sun sitting in the sky sounds like crackling on the earth when Angelica Locsin Colmenares shine from the heavens blue on April 23, 1985 in Sta. Maria Bulacan, the land of superheroes that don't need to wear cape to be called heroes.

In the beat of acceptance, she is a Christian by heart and part of Muslim Royal blood in the shimmered surface of Lake Lanao. The distant tingle of a kulintang grown by her mother, Emma Colmenares who's adopted by a glamorous princess. There can be no goodbye for them, the connection still lives on although they're far to each other at the starting life point of a fourteen year old Angel. Since then she lived on with the unconditional love of her father who's name is Angelo Colmenares. Her human calculator, strength and hands to count on freely as provider.

Education is a gift that allows everyone to travel the mind and look beyond the world. Through the tides and stones that life took her to different places, she remembers who she is a humble student of Saint James College of Quezon City. And finished her secondary education at the oldest existing university in Asia, University of Sto. Tomas. In the year 2007 of August, she attended a short-course of fashion designing to be able to voice out a personality without saying a thing at Central Saint Martin’s College of Arts and Design at the place of Big Ben.

In the summer age of her teenage years, the vessel of her hearts never left the river that floated her beauty. Her splendid nose and eyes, into sun and honey time of her lips, no questions to drop she was unpredictably discovered roaming inside a shopping center by a talent scout in Quezon City instead of attending to school. Much control over life— one bump in the road won't stop her journey to explore. She auditioned for several commercials and supposed to be member of Star Circle Batch 9 in the network of ABS-CBN. Angel's first movie was in 2002 through Ping Lacson Supercop, wherein she played the role of a Young Robina Gokongwei. Then, Mano po 2 in the year 2003. Next is the teen-oriented movie Kuya in 2004, as well as the comedy film Singles. In addition, she starred in the drama Mano po III: My Love and the horrible film Sigaw which are both an entry to the 2004 Manila Film Festival.

On the same year, another fiction television series— she was cast in the title role in one of the most iconic hero in the Philippines, Darna. The show was also well received by the general audience, receiving extremely high ratings and breaking records set by her prior television show. Darna's pilot week average is 50.08 percent, with 52.1 percent being the highest and 33.3 percent being the lowest.

Indeed, a real life Darna. Yet she doesn't need to channel it. She's consistently helping the Gabriela Party list and many other Children Foundations in the country. In fact, April 23, 2007, she celebrated her birthday with the Gabriela— a political-sector party list that supports women and less fortunate children.

A great chemistry love team she made with Richard Gutierrez, they played more mature roles in the romantic drama, The Promise in 2007. Then in the same year, it followed by her own film entitled Angels, showed in theaters.

Compare to Robin Padilla, it was Angel's first Philippine TV show aired in January to June of 2007 that shot in different countries, such as Thailand, Mongolia, and the land of the dragon, China.

Angel signed her two-year exclusive contract in the ABS-CBN Network, with her first on stage appearance to the show that brings light to extraordinary real-life stories and anecdotes of ordinary people as well as known celebrities in Maalaala Mo Kaya, episode "Pilat."

Angel is gifted enough with her acting skills, showed her prodigy and confidence. Struck by a mime, it's really a matter of time, a moment to reap the rewards of all she has sown, Angel won a Star award for Television Best Single Performance. In the next year, 2008. She launched her first drama series with the network together with Piolo Pascual, entitled Lobo. People fell in love with her colors. She is authentic just like her movie Love Me Again Together with Piolo Pascual in 2009. Additionally, she made a cameo in the romantic comedy film, My Amnesia Girl in 2010.

A Philippines imitation of the Korean drama of the same name shown in 2005 by SBS Korea, entitled Only You. Starring Angel Locsin in this top-rated Television series in 2009. Later on, the same year, she co-starred with the multi-awarded actor, John Lloyd Cruz in the TV series Immortal, which was a sequel to her previous film Lobo. She also appeared as a guest star in the comedy sitcom Toda Max in 2011. Yet her guest appearances, grew into a regular gig. After three years, in the 2014, Angel Locsin returned to primetime TV after three years through the remarkable hit series, The Legal Wife that breaks the Filipino heart.

In the Name of Love, Locsin's 2011 drama film featuring Aga Muhlach, received rave reviews. Her performance earned her numerous awards, including the Star Award for Movies for Movie Actress of the Year, the Gawad PASADO Award for Pinakapasadong Aktres, and a FAMAS Award nomination for best actress.

She debuted in the romantic comedy film Unofficially Yours with John Lloyd Cruz in 2012, and then in the drama film One More Try with Dingdong Dantes and Angelica Panganiban, which was Star Cinema's entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival. Film reviewers and media people lauded Locsin's performance in the latter, earning her the Star Award for Movies for Movie Actress of the Year for the second year in a row, the FAMAS Award for Best Actress, and the Film Academy of the Philippines Award for Best Actress.

People don't know the creak and crank of her bones, the blackness of her blood clots and the circumstances of her whole history. No matter what that mouth say, doesn't make her less of a person. Since in late 2015, Angel revealed that she's been suffering from a rare condition called "bulging disc injury." And underwent to a surgery repaired of her spine. One of the side effects of the legal drugs she's taking in are weight gain. With no options, she can't stop her medication since it will be going to affect her life. While the ABS-CBN Network took pain to explain that Angel is no longer allowed to do strenuous physical activities due to this spine injury caused by various roles with intensive physical training. A photo of her circulated on different platforms. However, she's an unbothered queen that many people stan.

In August 2017, a dating rumors sparked between Angel Locsin and Neil Arce, a professional poker player champion in 2009 Asian Poker Tour Philippines and a Filipino film producer. Neil appeared in Angel's Instagram profile during an opening of a dermatology clinic. Yet in September Angel confirmed that she was exclusively dating Neil but not yet in a relationship status. They both attended Anne Curtis and Erwan Heussaff wedding in New Zealand. In one of Angel's post, she wrote, "Anydau spent with you is my favorite day." that tagged Neil.

With 8 years of friendship, carefully holding each other's heart. They both know what they have gone through. Yet, they have no idea that this a start of a lifetime to fall in love with each other. He became the guy who can charm Angel across the room with just smile. And then, Angel found herself entwined with Neil’s strings and publicly announced their relationship in February 2018. It continued to bloom, as they traveled to several countries together. After that, in June 2019, proudly they want to extend to the next level, to allow both of themselves to take good care of each other’s for the rest of their lives, both announced that they were engaged.

Life throws unexpected events. Just like in 2020, Angel's wedding had to delay due to COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of planning to one of the most memorable moment of their lives, they poured themselves with relief operations during the pandemic and other disasters. However, in April 2020 when they launched the #UniTENTweStandPH a fundraising campaign to address the issue of hospitals overcrowding due to abundant cases of COVID-19. But this experience empowered more their relationship. Even when there are things that Angel and his fiancée disagree, they still both end up in ways how to fix it. Additionally, they both decided to start a YouTube channel wherein they vlog about their daily lives, in September 2020.

Marriage works on give and take, to trust each other’s. Not measured in days or the changing of seasons. Love springs as lightly as the lovely rose upon the brier. Which turns a common hedge to a floral fire. Two love wings, with rosy feathered dart, a subtle works of art and purity. Tying the knot in 2021. Angel and Neil announced on August 7, 2021 their marriage, and moved to a new home.

With no doubt, Angel Locsin, holds a special place in many Filipino hearts. Beyond her various television series and films, called as the real life Darna, and also a philanthropist who's behind several causes of relief efforts for typhoon victims, Taal eruption, and COVID-19 patients. No wonder why she's a hero that don't need to wear capes. Despite the fact that she has gained weight in her 30s, she is uninterested with concealing her form beneath baggy attire. Indeed, her viral photographs from June 2020, in which she appears to be curvier while filming her docu-reality show Iba 'Yan, captivated netizens with her unapologetic confidence in her figure.

She's also a loving daughter. Angelo Colmenares, her father, has played a key role in shaping her into the woman she is today. And she never forgets to express her gratitude for her father, with whom she has shared her life since she was 14.

Angel was advocating for women's empowerment. Inspired by leaders such as the late Gina Lopez and Mother Teresa, Angel has been vocal about the issues surrounding women today such as gender-based stereotypes and violence. There is a stigma, which people inherited unconsciously from society on how women should behave, yet she expressed disappointment toward these negative connotations to women who tend to display a strong personality.

A true-blue philanthropist, Angel's charity and advocacy are not a one-off contribution, but in fact she's a consistent Angel, a hero since 2009. From typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng, through the Marawi siege in 2017. She flew to the war-torn city to visit the affected and distributed relief goods. She headed so many efforts with no surprise she named in Forbe's Asia'a Heroes Philanthropy list in 2019.

Little drops of water, little grains of sand and pleasant land. Angel is humble and down to earth. She led to a soul from the path of virtue, far from the sin to stray. Her deeds of kindness, words of love, make our hearts happy, like the heaven above. Because of Angel Locsin, there is adoring kindness that walks in the darkness, make its way among the bombs and broken lives. She offers blankets and a shoulder to cry on. Puts on kettles and bandages that mends what it should and not one thing back. That's what she is, with or without camera, she doesn't need to channel her inner Darna— she's already a true to life Darna.

They might have been in the middle of a war but for the first time, Silvia knew real and true happiness.

Everything changed when the fire nation attacked Belhalla happened.

With her loved ones gone, Silvia was left alone with two children. As much as she tried to make it work, a traveling dancer's life was not the life she wanted for them, especially when that traveling dancer had been branded a traitor. She cried when she left them in Darna, promising a little Lene that she would come back for her while knowing how unlikely that would be. Silvia knew they stood a better chance with an unknown lineage but it didn't make it any easier.

She traveled after that. Sometimes she was alone but usually she followed whoever would have her until they grew bored and moved on to something else. She didn't really care where she went as long as it got her further and further from home. Eventually, she landed in Fodlan and followed rumors of Abyss. A community of others seeking to outrun their own pasta almost sounded like some place she could belong.

Silvia's dancing brought smiles to the other citizens of the Abyss. The more people who stopped and watched, the more elaborate and involved her dance became. Colored scarves twirled about her as she began to lose herself in the motions. As she came out of a spin, a specific set of eyes watching her stopped her completely.

It couldn't be. There was no way. The past truly was haunting her even here. He had to be a ghost but he looked so real. Without thinking, Silvia did the only thing she could think of to determine if this truly was Sigurd and not some spirit. She closed the distance between them, reached up, and pinched him right on the cheek.

Because of that, they welcomed Shannan's return home. Once he was crowned, he worked tirelessly to rebuild his country, and proceeded to implement trade with the other nations. Isaach was previously called the barbarian land of the east, but the latter half of his rule achieved unprecedented development, and Isaach transformed into a rich land that rivaled the other countries.

After the civil war ended in Augustria and the country was annexed by Grannvale, it had been put under a strict, tyrannical rule.

Because of that, all of the people had wished for their own liberation army and the establishment of a new, unified country, and those wishes were directed towards the hero Eldigan and the Nordion Royal Family. They were wildly excited to welcome Ares home, because he reminded them of Eldigan in his youth.

Under Ares' rule, Augustria's reconstruction progressed quickly. After that was done, the country continued to develop as Grannvale's greatest ally.

Because Verdane was a remote country, the empire did not meddle into their affairs very much. However, after the death of their king, each tribe had gotten into disputes time and time again, public order was in distress, and thieves went around looting as if they owned the place.

Amidst all of that, Lester's homecoming, as one of the hero Prince Jamke's bloodline, gave the people courage, and many young people gathered around him. The war to unify Verdane ended in less than a year, and Lester was crowned king. He earned the cooperation of both Grannvale and Augustria, restored the lands, and returned Verdane to the country his grandfather Batu had created.

Verdane, the forested land of the lake… Where Sigurd’s prayers are granted in the beautiful greenery, and the clear water is made up of Deirdre's tears. Or so the people believe…

Silesse, which had long been under the empire's control, crowned Ced once he returned home, and poured its energy into restoring the country's utterly destroyed lands.

The people loved their beautiful land and peace that had returned to it. The kingdom that Lewyn had given his life trying to protect was finally trying to finish his work.

And so, Seliph, as the new king of Grannvale, poured his energy into restoring the country, bringing peace to the continent, and creating a rich world without discrimination or oppression.

Through it all, he was always accompanied by his queen, Lana, who was always snuggled up next to him and smiling; and Princess Julia, who always watched over him with a kind, warm gaze.

Many years afterwards, the people would say.

"Within Jugdral's history, there was a holy king.

Sharena’s understatement of the year

“Galzus lost his kingdom during the war”

Reidric: “Hmph, I am not so foolish as to hire a mercenary of unknown origins. Yes, he is part of the Isaac family. He is the prince of the now demolished Kingdom of Libo. He is in fact the cousin of Prince Shanan of Isaac.”

Reidric: “Do you not know anything? The Kingdom of Libo, Galzus’ country, was invaded and destroyed by Isaac’s forces, led by Shanan’s grandfather. Galzus was put through many hardships since he was a youth because of that. Do you really think he would help Shanan?”

(Rivough = Libo, fanslation is sometimes weird)

Short story : Galzus’s dad, leader of Rivough’s kingdom, attacked Darna, some sort of neutral land, and because we’re not in FE16, attacking a holy place where defenseless people live in condemned by everyone, and is even used as a justification to start a war.

Rivough was located in Isaach - as a result, Isaach’s King Mananan killed the leader of Rivough (FE4) and the land was invaded and destroyed (FE5 from Reidric).

Later in FE4, when we visit Isaach, the Dozels (Granvalle Empire) settled their main forces in Rivough, most likely in the ruins of the ancient “kingdom”.

Now, food for thought, Galzus has major Od crest. Galzus’s mother is Ayra’s and Marricle’s (Shanan’s dad) sister -> Meaning King Mananan killed (if she didn’t die because childbirth in jrpg) his daughter, when he demolished Rivough.

In FE Treasure, Kaga wrote some notes about Isaach and Ayra.

According to him :

Ayra’s home country Isaac was invaded by Grandbell’s large army, and it was on the verge of destuction. Her brother and king of the time Maricle prophesized his own fate of death and hands over his only son (also only child) Shannan to Ayra. He desired Shannan to be protected until the coming reconstruction of Isaac. At the time, any men in the enemy’s royal family, even children, were to be executed. The better case for women would be slavery, and the usual case was to be raped and murdered. Maricle of course did not want his son Shannan, nor his kawaii (in this context it doesn’t suggest anything other than brotherly love) sister, to go through such a thing. He knew that if he said to take care of Shannan, his competetive sister would not be able to say no. As Maricle thought, Ayra had no choice but to take Shannan and escape the battlefield, and her country.

The person who translated this adds that the “executing royal children" isn’t something exclusive to Granvalle, but a common thing in Jugdral.

FE Treasure was released before FE5 - is it odd that Marricle didn’t want his sister Ayra to be, uh, treated like women usually are treated as when they lose a war, but apparently dgaf about the sister who married the Rivough King? If Galzus was supposed to be executed... Best Uncle Marricle couldn’t give a fuck about his nephew, but tried to spare his son and favored sister the same fate? - so Kaga knew what he wrote about the “standard procedure to deal with royals” before writing Galzus and Mareeta’s backstories.

Tl; dr : Galzus “lost” his Kingdom because his grandpa demolished it when he slaughtered his own daughter, and instead of raising his grandson along with Shanan, Galzus was forced to live in exile and to “travel” a lot. Prince, and later, King Marricle didn’t want Ayra to suffer the terrible fate that befell their older sister and nephew, thus had her spirited to Verdane while Isaach lost the war against Granvalle.

Next (or not) : Mareeta being “captured” is a sweet euphemism to say “caught by slave traders”.

“throwaway toons are a myth” → a collection

note: as the title implies, they are all throwaway characters that- for most part- only really existed in game for less than an hour due to them being Skin unlock throwwies... their pictures aren’t the best quality, but i hope it does them justice anyways.

↪ Mender Aratiles (Arah-tee-lees) , A training Necromancer alongside her duties as a resident mender near Astorea. She’s an absolute sweetheart and a hopeless romantic.

↪ Rivermaya (River-Mah-yuh) , A Sylvari Revenant. He’s had voices in his head since he first awakened from his Dream. However, the sapling took those voices as a stroke of contemporary inspiration and chose to pursue his passion for music and performance... vaguely concerning his mentors in the Grove.

↪ Grigori The Meek, Geomancing Elementalist & Stone Crafter, nicknamed for his kind and soft-spoken demeanor. He travelled to the Harathi Hinterlands and closely studied centaur earth magic to become very adept with it, though he ultimately makes use of his skills to create art that decorate his homestead in the Foothills.

↪ Van Al Kristiansen, Retired Pit Fighter. Once a young and hot-blooded Norn that almost always sought fights, Van once believed that strength equates to how many bodies you strike down. He spent his youthful years grandstanding in Gendarran Pit Fights until one day, Wayne and his “mystical” sword stole the hardened Norn’s spotlight. He then came back home to Hoelbrak after almost 40 years, now spending his days residing in his friend, Grigori’s, homestead.

↪ Darna Stoneater, Revenant. Just your average Norn huntress living in the Shiverpeaks, save for her quirky behavior that gained her some degree of infamy across Tyria. As her name implies, she always ingests very small, almost crystalline stones as preparation for combat. As it stands, no one could really explain whether or not it makes a difference, because Darna is already strong as she is.

↪ Kamal Ghoulsense, Necromancer & Ash Legion Veteran. Kamal has served her legion as an adequate agent for many years, most of which involved ghostly activities across Ascalon. All that time spent with ghosts sharpened her awareness of them- enough that she has sent word to the Tribunes warning them of Duke Barradin’s impending attack on Smokestead, though whether or not her warning was paid any attention to was questionable at best...

↪ Sagan, Engineer & Aspiring Stand-Up Comedian. He was merely a budget cosplay throwwy but he ended up getting a backstory anyway- He’s a Synergetics Graduate who very recently left his Krewe, opting to help his partner Agoss as she left her own krewe. As decent of an engie he is, his true passion lies in the show business, taking center stage and helping others crack a smile.

↪ Agoss, Water Elementalist & Independent Researcher. Agoss is a Statics Expert who very recently left her krewe to relieve herself from the pressure of time-gated projects and krewe rivalries which she found detrimental to her work studying magic-infused Hydraulic systems. Accompanied by her recent partner Sagan, they are currently travelling to look for an ideal spot for a small laboratory of their own... Agoss being particularly drawn to Orr, herself.
