My Margaery Tyrell Playlist
and why I chose each song
1. Money, Money, Money — ABBA
“If In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man”
tyrell ambition. 2nd richest family in westeros. that is all.
2. King— Florence + The Machine
“I am no mother,
I am no bride,
I am King.”
I want to be THE queen type of beat.
3. Girls— MARINA
“Is there any possibility
You'll quit gossiping about me
To hide your insecurities
All you say is "blah, blah”’
Margaery @ Cersei [and it’s the truth.]
4. Under Attack— ABBA
“Under attack, I'm being taken
About to crack, defenses breaking
Won't somebody see and save a heart?
Come and rescue me now 'cause I'm falling apart”
Margaery when the High Sparrow takes over. [or in show canon when the Sept is blown up.]
5. I’ve Had Enough— Melina KB
“If you're so mature now
Then I think it's time you grow up
Admit you did it
We all know you did it
And yet you still gaslight me up”
We all know you blew up the sept, Cersei… This works in book canon too as a Margaery v Cersei song anyway.
6. Monarchy of Roses — Red Hot Chili Peppers
“Several of my best friends wear
The colors of the crown”
Do I even need to explain this?
7. She’s A Rainbow— The Rolling Stones
“Have you seen her dressed in blue?
See the sky in front of you
And her face is like a sail
Speck of white so fair and pale
Have you seen a lady fairer?
Have you seen her all in gold?
Like a queen in days of old
She shoots her colours all around
Like a sunset going down
Have you seen a lady fairer?”
These are all colors show Margaery wears. Even though she really should’ve been wearing GREEN
8. Spider in the Roses— Sonia Leigh + Daphne Willis
“Don't get to close too that garden that she's growing
Yeah, there's a spider in the roses
She's so beautiful, yeah and she knows it
But there's a spider in the roses”
She was raised with help from the Queen of Thorns, after all.
9. She Had the World— Panic! At The Disco
“I don't love you I'm just passing the time
You could love me if I knew how to lie
But who could love me?
I am out of my mind”
Margaery & all of her pretender king husbands.
10. Daniel In The Den— Bastille
“And you thought the lions were bad
Well they tried to kill my brothers
And for every king that died
Oh they would crown another”
The Lannisters are out for Tyrell blood. In show canon Cersei DID in fact kill Margaery’s brother
11. Killer Queen— Queen
“She's a Killer Queen
Gunpowder, gelatine
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Anytime”
Everyone loves the Rose of Highgarden. Except Cersei
12. Homewrecker— MARINA
“Every boyfriend is the one
Until otherwise proven
The good are never easy
The easy never good
And loving never happens
Like you think it really should”
Margaery @ Joffrey
13. Power & Control— MARINA
“Power and control
I'm gonna make you fall”
Once again: I want to be THE Queen.
14. Liquid Smooth— Mitski
“I'm liquid smooth, come touch me, too
And feel my skin is plump and full of life
I'm in my prime
I'm liquid smooth, come touch me, too
I'm at my highest peak, I'm ripe
About to fall, capture me”
The Tyrell’s fall from grace.
15. Valentine, Texas— Mitski
“Who will I be tonight?
Who will I become tonight?”
I feel like Margaery always adjusts to who’s around / who she has to please. It’s why she’s such a good player in the Game of Thrones.
16. The Other Woman— Lana Del Rey
“The other woman is perfect where her rival fails”
In my opinion Margaery is the perfect foil to Cersei. I will totally make a post about this.
17. She Wolf— Shakira
“Not getting enough retribution or decent incentives to keep me at it
Starting to feel just a little abused
Like a coffee machine in an office (aaa)
So I’m gonna go somewhere closer
To get me a lover and tell you about it…”
Margaery in all her loveless marriages. But also, Margaery in my crackship head canon. Margaery x Jon. Get it? Wolf? Stark????
18. Backstabber— Kesha
“That you have got a set of loose lips
Twisting stories, all because you're jealous
Now I know exactly what you're all about (what you're all about)
This is what you're all about
Girl, you're such a backstabber (stabber)”
This is just a giant @ Cersei imo.
19. Holding Out for a Hero— Frou Frou
“I need a hero (hero)
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure, and it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life”
This version to me very much says I DONT need a hero I’m badass on my own
20. Oh No!— MARINA
“I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy”
Once again: Tyrell ambitions!!
21. Kiss from a Rose— Seal
“And now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom
On the gray”
Doesn’t need an explanation
22. Seventeen— MARINA
“You'll never find out what happened
The day I turned seventeen
The rise of a king and the fall of a queen, oh
Seventeen (Seventeen)”
Margaery’s rise to power in a nutshell
23. Cassandra— ABBA
“Sorry Cassandra, I didn't believe
You really had the power
I only saw it as dreams you would weave
Until the final hour”
Listen to the whole song. Lots of Tyrell imagery.
24. Babooshka— Kate Bush
“She wanted to test her husband
She knew exactly what to do
A pseudonym
To fool him
She couldn't have made a worst move”
Poor Margaery constantly in loveless marriages.
25. Cassandra— Florence + The Machine
“Well, can you see me? I cannot see you
Everything I thought I knew has fallen out of view
In this blindness I'm condemned to
Well, can you hear me? I cannot hear you
Every song I thought I knew, I've been deafened to
And there's no one left to sing to”
Sparrow era Margaery losing hope.
26. Head Over Heels— ABBA
“I have a very good friend
The kind of girl who likes to follow a trend
She has a personal style
Some people like it, others tend to go wild
You hear her voice everywhere
Taking the chair
She's a leading lady”
Cersei loosing her shit over Reach fashion. Also, whole song reminds me of Margaery. A powerful woman paving the way.
27. Sharks— Imagine Dragons
“You think you're better than them
Better than them
You think they're really your friends
Really your friends
But when it comes to the end
To the end
You're just the same as them
Same as them
So let it go, let it go
That's the way that it goes
First you're in, then you're out
Everybody knows
You're hot, then you're cold
You're a light in the dark
Just you wait and you'll see
That you're swimmin' with sharks”
Margaery’s complex relationship with Lannisters/Royals. This can work for Alicent Hightower too.
28. The Wedding List— Kate Bush
“No, I'll never give the hunt up, and I won't muck it up
Somehow this is it, I knew, maybe fate wants you dead too
We've come together in the very same room, and I'm coming for you”
The Purple Wedding.
29. Holding Out for a Hero— Bonnie Tyler
I already have another version of this song here, but the original gives me ‘I DONT need to be saved, but true love might still be nice…’
30. Mary on a Cross— Ghost
“You go down just like Holy Mary
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
Your beauty never really scared me
Mary on a, Mary on a cross”
Ignore the fact that this song is actually about getting head but… Mother on a, seven pointed star…. Sparrow Margaery.

2 Samuel 20. 1-3. "The Beating Rod."
Tumblr media
The story of King David, who seduced his way into the Royal Family by getting Prince Jonathan to lay back, does not include the fact David, while clever, heroic, and hot was not a law abiding citizen of the God's Kingdom. He was a creature of instinct who relied on his faculties rather than the law to govern.
In the beginning of the story, King Saul "the petition" yields up Jonathan "great talent" to David, "persistently beautiful" creating a vision for the future. All humanity to this day prays to God for a mankind that is cute and funny, but also capable of governing with loyalty and devotion to all that matters.
But David could not do it. As a result, God called him a kind of a misanthrope and invested his hopes in the next generation which included the much improved King Solomon, who unfortunately was very, very spoiled. Neither of them were able to create a Kingdom of Israel capable of lasting, none of Israel's kings were able to do it.
This section of 2 Samuel explains why not:
Sheba Rebels Against David
20 Now a troublemaker named Sheba son of Bikri, a Benjamite, happened to be there. He sounded the trumpet and shouted,
“We have no share in David,     no part in Jesse’s son! Every man to his tent, Israel!”
2 So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bikri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
3 When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to take care of the palace and put them in a house under guard. He provided for them but had no sexual relations with them. They were kept in confinement till the day of their death, living as widows.
Sheba is "the oath to the upkeep of the Law" specifically the Seven Noachide Laws. Sheba is the origin of the Seven Pointed Star of the Patron Goddess of Israel, Astarte, "the Unity Bundle of the Law."
The root שבע (sb'), which in modern medieval times became pointed as שׁבע (shaba'), has to do with the number seven and the act of binding with an oath (i.e. with a proverbial seven seals or seven bonds).
Nouns שבע (sheba') and שבעה (shib'a) mean 7 and their plural שבעים (shib'im) means 70. The dual form שבעתים (shib'atayim), means sevenfold or seven times. Adjectives שביעית (shebi'it) and שביעי (shebi'i) mean seventh.
The noun שבע (sheba'), meaning seven, became the verb שבע (shaba'), meaning to bind with an oath. Subsequent nouns שבועה (shebu'a) and שבעה (shebu'a) mean oath.
Bikri means "first born comes to fruition." The fact he is called a firstborn of Benjamen, which means "Son of the South, Son of Intelligence" hearkens to the fact we think of law abiding persons as the most erudite, the ones with the most potential to lead and be successful.
Sheba son of the Fruition of Intelligence saw no part in David, son of Jesse, "weak but with potential" AKA "a weakness around beauty" which explains David to a tee, so an alarm went out and all of Israel was told to consult with the Spirit of God in his tent through meditation on the Torah.
v. 2. Men loyal to Judah, glory instead of the pretty young things are steadfast. The reference "from the Jordan to Jerusalem" refers to the onset of semenarche and its management in adulthood. In other words, the Kingdom did not always approve of David's vapid handling of his penis instincts around the kids, including an ordinance that would have legally allowed him to sort out ugly Jews from the rest.
The value is 9608, טו‎ אֶפֶסח, tu ephesach,
tu= number 15= Shevat, "the beating rod."
ephes= what is behind but coming up
ach=what is secret but out in the open like a spider's web is obviously a trap for a fly
The Number 9608 refers to the fact the Ten Decrees, which are not hidden, are completely obvious and well known to everyone on this planet are not natural or normal for us. They were given to us by Moses who got them from God to use as a beating rod. Societies walk past them like a fly or a gnat flies by a spider web completely oblivious to the consequences of taking them for granted.
v. 3. Verse 3 illustrates this by calling them concubines to David's reign. As hot and hung and handsome as he must have been, he lacked the backing of the law in his conduct and society apparently needed a cock bbottom eating of a different kind from the man which he did not provide.
As the story explains, Jonathan dies, David grows old, and without his "talent" his kingdom does not reach its full potential leaving a few things in a state of mess we are still trying to figure out to this very day.
The Number for verse 3 is 9498, ט‎שטח, "terrain", Adamah, which is the evil universe version of Adam. Adam cares for Eve, Adamah however, neglects or rapes and beats her. Adam is produce, Adamah is waste:
Noun אדם (adam) is one of a few words for man but means literally probably "product" or likeness-made-from-soil; man as corporeal unit of humanity. This word is never used in plural, and its feminine equivalent, namely אדמה (adama), denotes arable soil or clay-red earth.
Red is the first color a baby learns to see and red or ruddy is indeed the color of rudiment: verb אדם ('adom or 'adem) means to be red, adjective אדם ('adom) means red, noun אדם ('odem) denotes a ruddy gem, possibly quartz, noun אדם ('edom) denotes a kind of red stew, adjective אדמדם ('adamiddam) means reddish, and adjective אדמוני (admoni) means red or ruddy.
The ubiquitous noun דם (dam) means blood; the seat of life, whose circulatory system always sits inside an organic body, isolated from the world at large.
When a river turns to blood, it not so much assumes the color and thickness of blood but becomes isolated from the greater hydrological cycle.
The life that is seated in the blood is therefore primarily an issue of waste-management. Without it, the organism pollutes and dies.
Without the Ten Decrees we are polluting organisms. Solomon, who follows David completes the peace by following the decrees but alas, fails to conquer his passions and his people follow him into some very hard times later on.

Ok yall I'm listening to tma for the first time and im gonna record my thoughts here.
I dont even know if this is worth posting but im going to do it anyways. I listened to episodes 1-40 in 3 days, I believe that's the first season.
ep 1: this is v good so far idk not much to say
ep 2: are all of these gonna have somebody named jon? thats the name of the dude speaking right?
ep 3: design with lines and a square in the middle? gotta be real that just sounds like a spider web. (isnt there an entity or wtvr called The Web? i think?) also are we just gonna brush over whatever thing shoved her into the street bruh
ep 4: the eye! That's a thing I remember seeing posts about
ep 6: worms? Worms!! "This story is concerning" arent they all?? who the heck is Jane prentiss uh oh
ep 7: so I'm guessing this is one of the entities we hear about?
ep 8: fractals feel like a Web thing idk its just vibes. this box sounds like a Web thing too- oop yeah spiders
ep 9: ik the hand with the eye on it is significant cuz i see it in fanart but im not sure what it means.
ep 11: web go brrr
ep 12: eyes!! In ep 4 the poem mentions smth about hearing right? AYO look at me makin connections Jared Keay (keye?) baybeeee. Beholding is a thing!
ep 15: I think theres an entity called The Dark but I'm not sure if im just making that up
ep 17: is it jorgen shitener or wtvr his name is again. IT IS!
ep 16: web time
ep 18: sus smells. Is it Eye time?
ep 19: oh!! this is connected to the other one! woah!
ep 21: this feels a lot like the cave diving one so far. was that a squish noise i heard at the end? worms? doesnt he have worm scars from whatever thing?
ep 22: martin voice reveal!! pogchamp! oh wow ok i knew the worms were gonna be somewhat important but not this important oh boy.
ep 23: oh god please no not the books. is this related to the graveyard thing from mist? jw 1279 (doesnt jw mean jehovah's witness) ffFUC KING KEAY
ep 29: i wonder if gerard keay (as ive learned his name is spelled) is one of those immortal death thingies. he does seem to show up a bunch but somehow i doubt it
ep 30: The Slaughter time? Meat! like the upstairs neighbor one!
ep 31: he mispronounced Appalachia >:( aw hell naw this is some Most Dangerous Game shit. this has The Slaughter vibes
ep 32: Prentiss oh boy. worms go brr. beholding is such a specific word i feel like i have to write it down ever time i hear it. spiders again. I still havent figured out which entity prentiss is related with. "you rob it of it's fear" "i dont know why the hive chose me" Is there an entity called the hive? i wouldnt be surprised but i cant remember hearing about it. Nicholas says worms are related to The Corruption
ep 33: "trying not to think about eachother" sean kelly o no re u gonna die. yeah im with jon on this one theres not rlly any supernatural stuff happening. probably they sacrificed him to keep something ? at bay (heh)
ep 34: i dont have to talk about how weird John Doe is right? v sus. The cracking noise is them giving themselves bones right. Apple? spiders? awww teeth i tried to call it. Teeth like the trash bag episode!
ep 35: passages: as in from a book? please no god not litener tell me it isnt so- GODDAMMIT OH WAIT JARED ITS HIM THAT LITTLE SHIT 13 passages + the one they came from. Weirdly wet, probably covered in blood. Bone! from the book that jared has! that's where he got his fuckner book. pages with web, figure in the darkness (anglerfish) stranger who means him harm, smth abt heat idk lightless flame go brr. eww the wormsss.
ep 36: buzzing? like in Hive? this sounds like a worms thing, perhaps the person who gave the statement got infected, thats why she was washing/ itching her hand? lighter?? hold on jared had one and the guy who got killed by the crime dude had one. spiderweb design go brr web go brr
interesting note cuz i cant remember which episode this came up in. In one of the past episodes tim was talking about some mistakes in the recordings. jon doesnt seem like the type of person to just not care about mistakes. he's gotten obsessed with these recordings like others get obsessed with the web etc
ep 37: They have the table? hmm... is this gonna be some fairy ring stuff. oh boy more burning. iron oh boy fae shit. milk bottle? this all sounds like witch shit i gotta be honest. rain water? yeah this feels like witchy things lol. dont tell me he opened one of the bottles. istg. he messed with some witch's spell jar and now he's cursed. is it a photo of his "predecessor" AYO IT ISS I CALLED IT
ep 38: books at lease we know they wont be involved but they couldve been. how come no one but jon ever calls the design a spiderweb? he has a migrane from the design? (idk if it is a guy but i always use he/him in my head cuz jon does) hopefully that means he wont be influenced? idk. oh dear a person is gonna disappear arent they. is david gonna go missing. is the speaker gonna go missing? spider oh no jon. oh no worms oh fuck
ep 39: oh dear this is quite unfortunate. LMAO he just asked if martin was a ghost im losing my shit. AYY TIM. fucking sasha is gonna get brainwashed by the web istg. I think that's a new voice but i cant tell im not v good at determining different voices. is it prentiss?
ep 40: "my eyes are up here but yknow, theyre not." LMAO how come those worms were slow (tim's statement) sasha sounds off. it's not her for sure. Is it like NotGraham? NotSasha? its funny she (gertrude) has such an ordinary death but that almost just causes more questions. If she didnt die due to a supernatural thing then it's something scarier, a person. (ayy me n jon said like the exact same thing) "they'll have to kill me first" oh god oh fuck foreshadowing

FOR THE FANFIC ASK MEME THING (I finally picked beyond 'just... all of them?'): F, I, K, M, N, Q, S, T, V, W, X, and Y. WHICH ISN'T ALL OF THEM it's just... several...
(from here)
F. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
I’m working on a Final Fantasy XV AU, because that’s basically all I write for FFXV; I really love the building blocks it gave me, but I don’t like a lot of the architecture. Anyway, conceptually it’s a fairly standard ‘what if Ardyn wasn’t a villain?’ thing, and on the off chance it ever sees the light of day, it will be called There Is a Crack in Everything.
This is a really early scene.
Regis stepped into his study, and Ardyn scarcely gave him time to close the door before wondering, with a languid sort of ease, “For how long have I been Adagium?” He sounded as if the word tasted foul.
“Longer than I can be certain of,” Regis sighed, taking his seat at his desk, across from Ardyn.
“And I’ll be able to relax for...how long?” Ardyn wondered pleasantly, leaning an elbow on the desk and propping his chin in his hand. “Before those lovely toy soldiers of yours try to haul me back to my stone box, that is.”
For a moment, Regis was quiet. For a moment, Regis thought of his father. Mors would have reacted the instant he realized who Ardyn was, and Regis wondered how many of the Glaive would have died and what sort of enemy they would have created.
He thought of his son, just a few weeks old. Already, Regis knew he did not want to teach Noctis to be that sort of king.
He did not want to be his father.
“You may stay here, should you wish it,” Regis answered at last.
Ardyn blinked, slowly. His expression didn’t change, but his words seemed carefully picked for carelessness. “And no one will wonder at another of the bloodline suddenly appearing?” he asked. “Or am I forbidden from showing off?”
“We’ll say you’re my half-brother,” Regis answered before he was even fully aware he’d come up with a solution. “It won’t surprise many.”
Ardyn’s eyes narrowed. “You’re awfully eager to dub me family.”
“You already are family,” Regis reasoned. “It seems it’s time someone finally treated you as such.”
That, at last, seemed to unmoor Ardyn. His posture went rigid for a moment as his gaze went distant. Twice, he opened his mouth to respond, before closing it without saying a word.
It took him only a moment to gather his composure, though, before he cleared his throat. “I have to say, this is the most elaborate method anyone has ever used to call me a bastard. I suppose that alone means it’s worth putting up with it.”
Regis laughed before he could help it.
I like it for a handful of reasons. For one thing, I’ve successfully weaponized it (and a few other snippets of the same WIP) to make my friend Ala emotional. For another, I didn’t really see this dynamic between Regis and Ardyn coming. It just sort of happened while I was typing, but I liked it when it showed up. It felt natural for an Ardyn who hadn’t been driven mad by turning countless people into daemons, but who was nevertheless not the same gentle healer after 2,000 years of isolation.
I. Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
I got paid for years, plural, to write really bad porn about people who could turn into animals fucking. I have no shame left. I’ve had no shame since the first time someone offered to pay me $500 for smut.
K. What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
It is, again, related to FFXV. I wrote If the Ring Fits and Backed in Silver years ago, and ever since, I’ve tossed around the idea of writing another sequel for Ignis.
The only issue is that my idea for it would forcibly make him realize that the Prompto that had been in their world was not actually their Prompto, and had not been for over a decade. And it would be a conflict he’d have to grapple with through the entire fic, trying to decide whether to force that same replacement on someone in a different world or to just endlessly keep hopping from one world to another because he can’t return to his.
I’ve never actually written any of it, and the concepting never got beyond Ignis’s revelation about Prompto. But considering If the Ring Fits was 10,000 words long and Backed in Silver was 20,000, I can only imagine what sort of behemoth it would be.
M. Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?
Like, WIPs, or things that I’ve pondered but haven’t started working on?
I’ve got a few WIPs. There’s the aforementioned non-villainous Ardyn AU. I’ve got another FFXV fic that’s been on hiatus on AO3 for legitimately over three years, and the next chapter is very nearly finished and I just...can’t seem to get there. I’ve got a Persona 5 new game+ fic in the works. That one’s fully plotted out already, and just the outline is like 15 pages long. Based on how the first chapter is going, each chapter will probably be anywhere from 10-20,000 words long. And I’ve got a melancholy immediately-post-season-two Mandalorian one shot in the works, spawned almost entirely so I could make Mando say ‘fuck.’ I know no one says fuck in Star Wars, but I don’t care. I will not say kriff and no one can make me. And I’ve got the Dragon Age uber fic that I’ve just sort of been plugging away at since Inquisition was released and none of it has ever seen the light of day, unless you count me shoving a few snippets at Siobhan.
Oh, and I’m rewriting an older Mass Effect fic.
For things that I’ve thought about but haven’t really worked on, they’re mostly more Dragon Age and FFXV. The “canon” stories for the two timelines not covered in the uber fic, and more AU nonsense spawned from ItRF and BiS.
N. Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?
Like, finish one of MY fics? No. I would bite them if they tried. Hell, I love you and I would bite you if you tried.
Just, in general? At this point I would take a monkey paw-style deal to get someone to finish Home.
(for anyone who isn’t Jim, Home is a nuTrek Jim/Spock fic that I think I was in high school when it was published. I graduated from college over five years ago.)
Q. How do you feel about collaborations?
Mixed feelings. I’ll take feedback, assuming I’ve offered the mic for it. I’ll prattle on about whatever I’ve got cooking. I’ll ask for ideas or suggestions. But when it comes to the actual writing of it, I’m a control freak. So, people are welcome to help me gather up the building blocks, but I’m gonna wind up doing the actual building myself.
S. Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?
Overly elaborate AUs.
T. Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?
That thing fandom does where if they’ve decided a character has anxiety, then it does not matter how that anxiety presents itself in canon, in fanon they are a weepy, shy introvert who can hardly string a sentence together because they’ve polymorphed into a shivering puppy.
V. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
Does it count if I just say I wanna rewrite a series as a whole? There’s a FrostIron series I read ages ago before the MCU made me wanna gag, and at the time I LOVED it. And then not that long ago I went back and read it again, and it felt like I was saying goodbye to it because oh my god it was unbearable.
Loki was NEVER FUCKING WRONG ABOUT ANYTHING, unless he wasn’t in the room, in which case Tony picked the slack about not ever being wrong about anything.
W. Do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones?
More specific. Not this past Christmas, but the one before that, I was doing some Advent Drabbles for one of my roleplay blogs, so I was open to drabble suggestions anyone wanted to see. Like 70% of them were just one or two words and I’m just staring at my ask box like ‘thanks, I hate it’
(Kudos, though, to the random stranger who gave me a very specific, paragraph-long prompt for a Spider-Man (PS4) fic.)
X. A character you enjoy making suffer.
...All of them?
Y. A character you want to protect.
I guess Din Djarin.
I mean, he still falls into the above ‘all of them’ but when I make him suffer it’s more related to exploring something that happened in canon, rather than me directly causing it.

xMs. Marvel (2006) #40an amalgamation of everything relating to comics in one big place. including but not limited to headcanons / takeaways regarding individual comics, the list of comics i’ve read and would be comfortable referencing when plotting / writing in any sort of capacity within the comics, and just general comics shenanigans. may occasionally reblog as deemed necessary for substantial updates to list of comics read, headcanons, etc.
comics i’ve finished:
deadpool (1994)
short run, only 4 issues. favorite takeaways include the discovery of my absolute love of wade’s reaction to anyone reaching to take off his mask. the kink for wade losing his regeneration abilities and continuing to take bullets continues. god fucking bless. decent art, love wade’s dialogue. not big on how his costume is designed - gotta love him having black gloves. too much red.
black panther vs deadpool (2018)
again, short run. when i say my kink for wade losing his regeneration abilities, i say my fuckin kink for wade losing his regeneration abilities. really love how much this comic highlights wade just constantly being misunderstood and incapable of explaining himself and his beliefs to others. coulda saved a whole lot of problems if he just ‘fessed up. not too big on the art style on wade, but 10/10 emotional moments. “every time i get blown to pieces, i think “okay wade, you’re a new man - literally! don’t fuck it up this time. and then i fuck it up. it’s just so hard to actually change. after all these things i’ve done... they say you really can see people’s souls, t’challa, and... i guess i just wanna know... can you still see mine? cuz i’m worried it’s the one part of me that won’t grow back.”
deadpool v gambit (2016)
i just reread this like last month but i gotta reread it. not my favorite art style, but you gotta appreciate the friendship between remy and wade. just chef kiss content here. not too many emotional moments, and not full of headcanon fodder, but the image of wade in spider-man’s costume? beautiful. stunning. incredible. blessed.
hawkeye vs. deadpool (2014)
ellie and wade? incredible. wade and clint? fantastic. wade taking a bullet for clint? showstopping. wade pulling up his mask so clint can read his lips? blessed fucking content. has some decent emotional moments, i love the art style of it. really really love how wade behaves in it.
secret agent deadpool
honestly, this was such a short, sweet, funny run. there was a ton of indulgent shots of wade naked, a cute little romance, a hilarious plot. i gotta love the scenes of wade apologizing for his grotesque appearance and offering to wear gloves. definitely indulgent and cute. not much in the way of headcanons or plot i want to adopt, but it was definitely cute and fun. and this is sounding very repetitive. woops.
the new mutants #98
ah, baby’s first comic. pretty boring, honestly, especially since i have zero interest in reading the 97 comics that came before to have a crumb of context. but it’s still nice to see. nothing to pull from in terms of plot, characterixation, art, etc. but still cool.
comics i’m in the process of reading:
spider-man/deadpool
i could literally talk about this for fucking years. there are a lot - and i do mean a lot - of things i have issues with in this comic. i don’t like peter being as old as he is. i don’t like peter being a ceo. while the last thing i want is a spideypool interpretation where peter is early 20s ( or god forbid younger ) and wade is in his late 30s, early 40s and wade is still shown to have romantic feelings for peter, seeing peter as a ceo in his 30s is just such a far change from my established views of peter. i’ve already annoyed plenty of people talking about this already, but i think the way they had peter treat wade is out of character and sets peter up to be this massive asshole for no reason. it makes him appear immature, standoffish, and irritable in a way i don’t agree with. still definitely has a lot of content that i do love and do want to pull inspiration from. i really really want to read other comics in whatever universe this is just to get a better idea of wade’s relationship with the other avengers. art is pretty fantastic, a+ emotional moments and quotes and pretty decent plot considering my already established reservations.

Stealing this from twitter, one of those 1 like = 1 video game answer
1. Very first video game
I have hazy memories of playing Sonic on the Genesis and if not that then most likely Pokemon Red? Twisted Metal is the oldest game I own that I didn’t buy myself and just always had so maybe that one.
2. Your favorite character
God gotta be Geralt. It is hard to separate his Witcher 3 iteration from the books, which is probably the best compliment I can give CDPR’s adaptation as the more I read the books the more I appreciate how faithful that game was. Geralt’s the typical grumpy dad who puts on a show of having no emotion but really does care about others and frequently acts on that (no need to read into how that reflects myself).
3. A game that is underrated.
Tough because underrated as in metacritic or just in general like mass audience reactions? I think overrated would be an easier pick for metacritic but for mass audience underrated I would say something like Disco Elysium since it was PC only and even there seems to have found a small but dedicated niche audience. I would also say Rain World but honestly need to play more.
4. Your guilty pleasure game.
LA Noire, Alan Wake, Alien Isolation, games people are mostly either like, that was okay or didn’t like but I really love.
5. Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were)
Damn guess its time to admit how Geralt reflects myself.
6. Most annoying character.
Got some classics like Navi (OOT), Dutch/Micah (RDR2), Ryder (GTASA), I feel like there are more good ones but I can’t find/trigger their memories.
7. Favorite game couple.
Geralt and Yennefer (Witcher), Red and her unnamed lover (Transistor), Harry and Kim (Disco Elysium)
8. Best soundtrack.
Fuck. Hyper Light Drifter, Final Fantasy VII, DOOM, Transistor, Halo Reach/ODST, Red Dead Redemption, Kingdom Hearts, Alien Isolation, LA Noire. Licensed: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1, 2, 3, Fallout 3/New Vegas (even if they repeat way too often).
9. Saddest game scene.
Ending of Crisis Core, death of Avalanche members in Final Fantasy VII, ending of Red Dead Redemption, ending of Transistor, saying goodbye to Clementine in The Walking Dead Season 1.
10. Best gameplay.
Titanfall 2, DOOM, Hitman, Halo 5 (Arena multiplayer only), Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 (revert is king), Metroid Prime (on Wii).
11. Gaming system of choice.
PS4/3/PC in that order
12. A game everyone should play.
Disco Elysium, Bioshock 2, Rain World, Yakuza 5, Final Fantasy Tactics (either PSOne Classic or War of the Lions)
13. A game you’ve played more than five times.
lol full playthroughs Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, DOOM. Games I’ve started and made significant progress in so many times: Final Fantasy VII, Modern Warfare 2, Alan Wake, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, LA Noire, Halo Reach, Final Fantasy Tactics The War of the Lions
14. current (or most recent) gaming wallpaper.
Wallpapers on phone have been Evangelion for years now. The rotating desktop wallpaper folder only has Alien Isolation because of how much it looks like Alien and Breath of the Wild because of how much it looks like Ghibli landscapes.
15. Post a screenshot from a game you’re playing right now.
It would be something from Apex (a win screen) or Red Dead Redemption 2 (landscape)
16. Game with the best cutscenes.
God most games have cutscenes that are really boring (shot, reverse-shot, in-game engine puppets, black bar zoom ins, economical choices because of how often they’re going to be used but so boring) so I guess Control because its got styyyyyyle.
17. Favorite antagonist.
uhhhhh the greater structure of the world in Disco Elysium? Human opponents in Apex Legends. The rain in Rain World. Tenpenny in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. Xenomorph in Alien Isolation.
18. Favorite protagonist.
I mean Geralt (Witcher), Alan Wake (the titular Alan Wake), Harry Du Bois (Disco Elysium), Red (Transistor), John Marston (Red Dead Redemption), CJ (Grand Theft Auto San Andreas), DOOMGUY (DOOM), Jesse Faden (Control)
19. Picture of a game setting you wished you lived in
Most of video game worlds are trying to kill you but Breath of the Wild, San Andreas, Kingdom Hearts, Morrowind
20. Favorite genre
Seems to be shooters, some open world if the angle is good.
21. Game with the best story.
Story as in fiction? Disco Elysium. Story as in the thing its trying to sell you on as you play? The Last of Us, Bioshock 2, Transistor.
22. A game sequel which disappointed you.
Not technically a sequel but Bioshock Infinite, Red Dead Redemption 2, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V, Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Infamous Second Son
23. Game you think had the best graphics or art style
Persona 5, Disco Elysium (those portraits jesus so good), Shadow of the Colossus (PS2 version, the fog and unfocused edges make it such a #mood), Morrowind (I love the fucking early 2000s 3D graphics), Final Fantasy VII (the pre-rendered backgrounds, I could star at them for days), Control, Hyper Light Drifter, any of those Yoshi art games (crayon of Yoshi’s Island and fuzz of Wooly World are standouts)
24. Favorite Classic game
Pokemon Gold, Link’s Awakening, Doom, Final Fantasy VII/Tactics, Spider-Man
25. A game you plan on playing
boy I have a whole spreadsheet for this on but the one on my mind is Okami, Alpha Protocol, Madworld
26. Best voice acting
uh idk the expensive games, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us?
27. Most epic scene ever
when I get a win in Apex Legends with like 8+ kills overall
28. Favorite game developer
Remedy Entertainment, Respawn, uh hard to find consistency, most of my favorites have been one-offs where I either haven’t played or don’t really like the rest that developer made.
29. A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving.
I usually don’t play games I don’t think I would like because I know my tastes and don’t waste time but I guess something like Hitman was a surprise because I had heard all the praise about it long before I finally sat down to play it myself and it was fucking great.
30. Your favorite game of all time.
God uh I mean I’ve been returning to games like Uncharted 2, Final Fantasy VII, San Andreas for like a decade now. Pokemon Gold too if I would finally buy the stuff to replace the battery in it. So I guess one of those since they’ve been part of my life the longest.

My 119 in 2019 (goal achieved)
I did it! I achieved my goal of #119in2019 and I wanted to take this time to reflect on my cinematic journey over the past 365 days.
Here are the absolute worst films I saw this year in which I hated every second and wanted to die. These are in chronological order rather than rank but honestly I think everyone knows CATS was an unholy abomination that no mortal eyes should be forced to witness.
Green Book
The Prodigy
Ruben Brandt, Collector
The Beach Bum
Little
Ma
The Lion King
The Kitchen
Last Christmas
CATS
Here are my favorite/the best films I saw this year. I couldn’t stick to just 10! These ARE ranked, roughly, and usually are a combination of technically astonishing while also being entertaining, engaging, and rich in emotion and complexity. This year it was particularly about standout acting performances and incredible screenplays for me.
Parasite
Rocketman
The Farewell
Booksmart
Little Women
Honey Boy
They Shall Not Grow Old
John Wick 3
Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood
Knives Out
Ready or Not
And here are the movies I thought I was gonna like only ok but actually loved beyond belief. They may not be the BEST, but they were among the most entertaining and endearing that I saw all year - the sleeper hits, if you will. Real salt of the earth stuff that you can happily spend a Saturday night with from Redbox. These are ranked in order of how surprised I was that I loved them this much.
Fighting With My Family
The Peanut Butter Falcon
Teen Spirit
Stan and Ollie
Captive State
Hail Satan?
The Current War Director’s Cut
Shazam!
Hustlers
The Dead Don’t Die
Long Shot
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Doctor Sleep
Ford v Ferrari
Blinded By The Light
And finally, here is the list of all 119 movies I viewed in theaters along with links to all the reviews I’ve published (I know I’m behind but let’s just say I’m happy to be showing 2019 the door and starting fresh in 2020). Thank you to everyone who read, followed, liked, reblogged, subscribed, or otherwise helped with this journey. I love you all - here’s to #120in2020!

The best and worst films of 2019
Tumblr media
It was of the general consensus that 2019 was a truly amazing year for cinema, with audiences treated to a wide and impressive array of films. As usual, the year produced a number of sure bets from both well known directors and arthouse favourites, but it also treated cinemagoers to some truly unexpected treats from the cinematic mainstream.
Having watched just over 100 films (released in Australia), those that made this year’s ‘best list’ have been selected on the basis of the lasting impression they have left on this viewer after the lights have come up and the curtain’s been drawn.
So, what succeeded and what failed?
Ladies and gentlemen, may we please offer for your consideration…

10. APOLLO 11 (DOCUMENTARY)
Though this outstanding assemblage of archival footage about the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing featured no narration, interviews or analysis, director Todd Douglas Miller successfully managed to create an amazingly beautiful and surreal experience about one of humanities greatest achievements. Featuring never-before-seen footage of both the launch and the mission itself, ‘Apollo 11′ was as thrilling as any sci-fi and eye-wateringly beautiful to behold.
Tumblr media
9. EIGHTH GRADE
It was an impressive year for many ‘coming-of-age’ films (‘Booksmart,’ ‘Good Boys,’ ‘Mid 90′s’) but it was writer-director Bo Burnham’s poignant and sensitive exploration of the challenges of early adolescence in the age of social media that really resonated. Focusing on the socially awkward Kayla - played with exquisite, jittery control by teen actor Elsie Fisher - ‘Eighth Grade’ was a thoughtful observation on the universal truths of growing up in the modern age.
Tumblr media
8. FORD V FERRARI
With director James Mangold at the wheel, ‘Ford V Ferrari’ was a highly enjoyable sports car racing movie that left audiences with a lasting and highly satisfying impression all the way to the finish line. Based on the rivalry between the car manufacturers Ford and Ferrari in their pursuit to win the 24 hour Le Mans sports car race in 1966, ‘Ford V Ferrari’ featured heart-pounding racing sequences and impeccable performances from Matt Damon & Christian Bale.
Tumblr media
7. THE NIGHTINGALE
Though not a horror film in the strictest definition of the term, you were less likely to find a more horrific cinematic experience this year than Australian director/writer Jennifer Kent’s 'The Nightingale.’ Kent's follow up to her critically acclaimed debut ‘The Babadook' was an extremely unsettling and bleak revenge tale, that relentlessly beat the audience with its unflinching violence and depictions of cruel racism.
Tumblr media
6. AVENGERS: ENDGAME
"Part of the journey is the end...” A cathartic and satisfying experience for all MCU fans worldwide, 'Avengers: Endgame' was everything we needed and more than we deserved. Full of callbacks and emotional pay-offs 10+ years in the making, ‘Avengers: Endgame' was a thrilling conclusion and a deeply emotional exploration of loss and love, duty and honour, friendship and family. Just remember to lean into the tears.
Tumblr media
5. JOKER
Whether you ended up either loving or hating ‘Joker,’ there was no denying that the landscape of cinematic comic book adaptations had been changed forever. Drawing inspiration from Martin Scorsese’s ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘The King of Comedy’ and featuring Joaquin Phoenix’s magnificently dedicated and exhaustive performance, ‘Joker’ was a truly outstanding cinematic achievement that would be discussed and debated for many years to come.
Tumblr media
4. THE IRISHMAN
A magisterial entry in his long and masterful career, Martin Scorsese’s violent yet poignant crime epic featured flawless performances from a stellar ensemble cast (De Niro, Pacino, Pesci, Keitel). With a script that was nothing short of a master work, coupled with an intricate production design and stylish cinematography, ‘The Irishman’ felt like an apt end point for Scorsese’s fascination in narratives detailing the ultimate price that comes from a life of sin.
Tumblr media
3. PARASITE
Renown South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho already had an impeccable track record (’The Host,’ ‘Snowpiercer,’ ‘Okja’) but really stepped up his game with this brilliant and powerfully revealing social satire. An intricate look at modern-day social hierarchies, ‘Parasite’ kept flipping audience expectations with its radical shifts in tone - from clever comedy to violent, dark tragedy - whilst delivering some brilliant thematic elements.
Tumblr media
2. MARRIAGE STORY
Writer-director Noah Baumbach’s drama about the pain of the divorce process was a phenomenally crafted piece of cinema. A tragic tale amplified by both Baumbach’s screenwriting genius and tour-de-force performances from Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, ‘Marriage Story’ highlighted the struggles of an everyday situation and the real efforts to maintain it, leaving audiences with heavy hearts and thoughts.
Tumblr media
1. ONCE UPON A TIME...IN HOLLYWOOD
Set against the backdrop of Hollywood’s changing of the guard and the looming large presence of the Manson Family, ‘Once Upon A Time...in Hollywood’ was a melancholy, slow burning, comedic love letter to a filmmaking era long gone, and easily one of Quentin Tarantino’s best films.
As a wonderfully painted portrait of 1969 Hollywood, Tarantino delivered something truly special - a cinematic opus featuring so many film references, both obscure and in your face, that it was an absolute delight for cinephiles everywhere to luxuriate in the sights and sounds of this historical fantasy.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt delivered the most emotionally vulnerable performances of their careers as soon-to-be has-beens, whilst the film’s vibrant production and costume design and playful soundtrack perfectly captured a snapshot of a special place and time in film history.
If Tarantino is still adamant to call it quits on his directing career after his next movie, ‘Once Upon A Time...in Hollywood’ was a timely reminder that we should all definitely try to enjoy the filmmaker whilst we still can.
...AND NOW, THE WORST!
Tumblr media
20. UNDER THE SILVER LAKE
19. THE MULE
18. STUBER
17. AT ETERNITY’S GATE
16. IT: CHAPTER 2
Tumblr media
15. THE BANANA SPLITS MOVIE
14. HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U
13. ALADDIN
12. ANGEL HAS FALLEN
11. TERMINATOR: DARK FATE
Tumblr media
10. CAPTIVE STATE
Director Rupert Wyatt, the brains behind the effective ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ reboot, easily delivered one of the worst sci-fi films of the year. Despite a premise filled with potential and talent both in front of and behind the screen, ‘Captive State’ was a major disappointment. The screenplay (co-written by Wyatt) was an epic mess of confusion that lacked both a compelling narrative and characters to hold it together, resulting in a huge misstep for all involved.
Tumblr media
9. RAMBO: LAST BLOOD
It’s ironic a film franchise that started out telling the sad story of a man trying to show an uncaring world he was still a human being should have its final chapter demonstrate the exact opposite. This much touted ‘final entry’ in the Rambo saga was a deeply unpleasant and unnecessary exercise that featured little wit, inventiveness or originality. The character of John Rambo deserved a better swan song than ‘Rambo: Last Blood,’ and so did we.
Tumblr media
8. GEMINI MAN
Directed by Ang Lee and starring Will Smith as a government assassin facing off against a clone of his younger self, ‘Gemini Man’ was an empty and tiresome thriller dressed up in a lot of fancy tech, and Smith’s biggest box office flop since ‘Wild, Wild West.’ Despite costing $138 million to produce, all the Hollywood SFX wizardry in the world couldn’t excuse a lifeless picture, with the final result nothing more than a bland action clone.
Tumblr media
7. THE LION KING
Soulless was how best to describe Disney's shot-for-shot live action version of the 1994 animated classic. The core failure of this latest incarnation of 'The Lion King' was the studio’s inexplicable choice to go fully photorealistic with the animation. The animal characters may have all been zoologically accurate, but there was absolutely zero expression or emotion conveyed in their faces (let alone the voice talent). Sadly, ‘The Lion King' was nothing more than a cash grab that relied heavily on the nostalgia and success of the original,
Tumblr media
6. WELCOME TO MARWEN
Robert Zemeckis, the director behind such cinematic gems as ‘Forrest Gump,’ ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Cast Away,’ was also responsible for this woeful and misguided outing. Despite being based on the true story of a man learning to cope with a terrible trauma through the power of art and imagination, ‘Welcome to Marwen’ focused its attention on the visuals of the story instead of its narrative. Our advice? Watch the original 2010 documentary ‘Marwencol.’
Tumblr media
5. THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA
Let’s cut straight to the point - the reason Hollywood keeps making cheap, crappy horror films with little, if any, imagination is because they will always make their money back within the opening weekend. And ‘The Curse of La Llorona’ was a prime example of this, a formulaic slab of supernatural dirge destined to be forgotten by year’s end. Filled with jump scares, loud musical cues and devoid of any originality, horror fans deserved better than this.
Tumblr media
4. MEN IN BLACK: INTERNATIONAL
Despite the box office success of the first ‘Men in Black’ film and its two well-received sequels, ‘Men in Black: International’ was a dull and dreadful reboot that severely tarnished the franchise. There were all sorts of bad things happening in this fourth film, but none were as unforgivable as wasting the talents of both Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thomspon. You didn’t need your memory wiped after this one - the movie did it for you.
Tumblr media
3. DARK PHOENIX
The ‘X-Men’ films have been less hit and more miss in recent times and, unfortunately for fans, ‘Dark Phoenix’ closed out the this once-great franchise in an extremely disappointing fashion. Suffering from extensive rewrites and reshoots to the point where not even the film's stars knew which characters they were playing, ‘Dark Phoenix’ was a far cry from the pitch-perfect conclusion James Mangold gave us with the vastly superior ‘Logan.’
Tumblr media
2. HELLBOY
Director Neil Marshall’s bloody misfire of the ‘Hellboy’ franchise was a damned mess, undeserving of both your hard-earned money and your valuable time. The film’s storytelling was clumsy rather than clever, the atmosphere oppressive rather than immersive and the characters colourless rather than captivating. Try to imagine Guillermo del Toro’s original two movies, except without any spark, wit, fun, tension and excitement. Absolute hell, boy!
Tumblr media
1. CATS
Don’t act as if you’re surprised by this year’s winner of worst film - ‘Cats’ was an epic misfire, deserving of the vitriol it received from critics everywhere (the furry community, however, LOVED IT).
From the initial spark of the thought that turning Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical into a film would be a good idea, the project was doomed. With every single decision involved in this movie more baffling than the last, the biggest and most fundamental problems were the concept design of the cats themselves and there being absolutely no semblance of a plot.
Despite there being pussy galore, ‘Cats’ failed to capture any sense of spectacle or fun, and instead plodded through an inane, boring and predictable story that was used mostly as a platform for some big West End musical numbers and A-list cameos.
Watching your neighbour’s cat lick its own arse was far more enjoyable to behold than this cinematic disaster.

Top 15 Movies
Tumblr media
I made that Top 15 Games post so I decided to do movies as well, same rules apply here but you’re going to see mostly Marvel and Disney movies anyway so I made it one per franchise such as one Star Wars, One Avengers, One Guardians, with that Guardians Vol. 2, Pirates: Curse of the Black Pearl, Spider-Man: Homecoming were the runner ups. No particular order.
Incredibles: I went to the theaters to see this and I feel so happy that I did, I remember being so impressed with Dash running on the water then beating those goons. It really set the bar and holds up today considering I hold it higher than it’s sequel and it made me a fan of Brad Bird.
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse: Am I hopping on the bandwagon here?...Nope! I was making this list and I was going to put either the first Raimi film or Homecoming and I started thinking...why not Spiderverse? I really adore the other ones but there are a few glaring problems with them, this one...I can’t actually name any.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: I really enjoyed this when I saw it, it’s one of those where I can watch it again and again and not get tired of it. I’m not sure why but it was a lot more fun than I expected, it also had ONE of the best villains of the MCU (in my opinion) as well as the worst.
The Losers: I see this as a staircase to the Marvel universe, I mean we have Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans here, what’s not to love. I think we all know what my favorite part was...
Tumblr media
The Three Musketeers: Mickey, Donald and Goofy: It did justice to the characters and made a classic story into something new and entertaining. It’s underrated. And who can forget this part:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tron: Legacy: This or Tron, This or Tron? Both were very good but this one has a little better effects obviously as well as doing a lot of things that the original already does, add Daft Punk’s killer soundtrack in there and you got yourself a formula for an uprising. #TronLives #FlynnLives
Atlantis: The Lost Empire: Good voice acting, cool effects, a nice aesthetic with the glowing lights, crystals, and ancient technology (I guess you can say I like blue lights judging by my previous entry) But I remember first seeing it and immediately feeling the weight from that beginning with Kida’s mom. It’s a nice adventure and makes me wish that it’s sequel wasn’t so iconicly hated because it gives the title a bad name. I refuse to watch the sequel if it really is that bad.
The Lion King: Can you blame me? Do I even have to explain? Animation is gorgeous, designs are peak, music is top notch, and expressions that they get ‘Oh so right’ that no live action remake could ever recapture. This is considered a masterpiece. I can quote it on the daily, remember even the tiniest details and just the amount of times I’ve seen it makes me want to say it IS a part of who I am.
The Avengers: Infinity War was close but this was the cake. You can walk into a room with this playing at any given moment and be like “Oh yeah this is a good part.” They spend every minute doing something interesting.
Captain America: The First Avenger: A lot of people overlook this one because of the other 2 but this one will always be my favorite. I remember seeing it the first time, just came out on DVD and my mom went to her baby shower, me and my dad watched it and she came back AS SOON as it was done, as if this was just to pass that exact amount of time. Cap is a character you want to root for, his morals are worth fighting for. Iron Man may have started the MCU but I say Cap shaped it and made it better, this was the real start (as Avengers was next. Red Skull is just a villain I like, both movie and comic as well.
Baby Driver: I was superhyped to see Spider-Man: Homecoming so I traveled just to go see it as early as I could, I said if anything went wrong, I would go see this. I ended up being fine and waited until this was on DVD. Edgar Wright has some of the best editing in his movies, the way this movie uses music, the tone, the idea of it being in the perspective of the ‘Getaway driver it makes it exciting and gives it spunk, it makes you like the character, the music, and heck root for a criminal. I wasn’t a big fan of the big twist everyone likes with the villain but that’s ok.
Inside Out: I went to Disney World and when I learned they were still playing this in theaters there, I dropped everything and went to go see it. Little did I know how right I was because I really enjoyed it. It’s an emotional film, gets me crying probably more than any other film, it really nails what’s it’s talking about...feelings. Mix that with glowful animation, good voice acting and a lesson that makes you think and really ponder.
Guardians of the Galaxy: I thought this would try and be like Star Wars and just be a giant battle in space. Nope! This has charm, character, and maybe a little bit of rudeness but man! I mean escape from prison in zero gravity, freezing in dead space, singing in the middle of everything and once again the villain. Why do I like the underrated villains? I think it’s a good contrast with the goofy personality of the characters to have a serious, brooding, and gritty character. As well as a proper introduction to Thanos (yeah he’s still number 1 villain in my book)
Star Wars: Somewhere, somehow, this had to be on the list. One way or the other, Star Wars is a phenomenon that can’t simply be ignored, with all the controversy and misdirection within the community right now, for some reason I keep getting tossed and turned but I find myself coming back e-v-e-r-y-t-i-m-e! I’ll say A New Hope is my favorite but really, I could say just about all of them. Something about seeing Luke, Vder, Leia, and Han in the same place just tops it off. The witty duo of R2 and 3PO, the original Death Star, the quotable moments that make you wish you were on that planet yet also find yourself relating with the way Luke wanting to get away but at the same time missing his old ways.
Black Panther: I’ll be honest. I don’t really like Black Panther in the comics. I felt like he was a cool secret weapon in the cartoons but I never really gained my appreciation for him until Civil War came out, then I really liked him. I figured out why too, I just really didn’t like how bland his suit was in the comics, I ended up reading a few anyway after the movie. I think he’s worthy of the Infinity Gauntlet like in the comics. Well this movie came out and I saw it opening day to a big crowd, it had good music, good style, a fresh take and blend between ancient and modern styles (kind of like how Atlantis did) as well as giving it a sense of culture, and not shying away from that. It’s almost like the Lion King, I never felt the same way about a film but those two feel similar and for that alone is a feat.
