It was your wedding,you were in your suite getting ready…it was a beautiful wedding-you were getting married at hope chapel…it was away-far away even. But the dogwood flowers were so beautiful,chuuya was obviously able to book the venue but everything was perfectly heavenly….you even convinced him to invite osamu dazai,his friend even though they both wouldn’t admit it. But everything was perfect….you could smell the flowers and the wilderness as you heard a knock on your door. You thought it would be kōyō or Higuchi-maybe even gin or hirotsu-coming to help you fit into your nice outfit.

but it was just osamu.

your breath hitched as you saw the man,white suit and tie with his hair actually done nicely….it was a sight to make most drool. Not you though. You were a loyal spouse to be,you couldn’t even think about running your hands through his hair.

“(Y/n?)….i just wanted to say congratulations-I’m happy for you.”

the man smiled-almost Cheshire-as if he wasn’t planning anything at all….you strived to speak but he just waved you away and snuck back to the guest pews like an alley cat,soon enough though-Higuchi and gin came in to help you with accessorizing and such,but soon enough it was time.

You were waiting by the doors of the entrance as you heard “Canon in D" by Johann Pachelbel played down the isle,the stings from the viola and the cello filling your ears as people whispered praises and gasped….it was your wedding. Everything you ever dreamed with the ginger of your heart and soul…..(never settle for a ginger btw they are evil)

As you and chuuya were hand in hand facing each other as your love filled the room,chuuya even cried a bit sharing his vows which was quite unusual for the ginger,keeping it all inside…but now how love was spilling out of his eyes faster than he could control.

However,to both you and chuuyas horror-when you heard the priest speak the lines-

“Should anyone present know of any reason that this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace.”

-You heard the Satan spawn finally speak again for the first time since he saw you.

“I object-actually your honor….if the line as reliable as you say!”

Dazai said standing up as most of the chapel glared at him angrily,as they should,he continued to talk though-unfortunately.

“(Y/N)….my heart…my love-forever has always been a constant construct between dreams and reality brought from the unreliability of human hope….nothing truly lasts forever because flowers wilt and people die,but everyone dreams of forever because that’s the most impossible thing to accomplish-but when I am with you or even thinking of you my heart beats and my mind starts to think and do the most dangerous thing of all,start to dream….i dream of a forever with you because you are my forever…I dream of you chibi does not dream at all!”

your breath starts to hitch and you feel weak at the knees from the speech he just spewed no matter how much you debated in your mind….but chuuya started to speak too,tears from anger at the man’s audacity everyone in the port mafia saw Dazai as inhuman, even Dazai himself doesn't see himself as human, and Chuuya desperately wants to be seen as human….he threw away the chance to be human where chuuya has to claw and fight with his conscience to even consider the meer idea of humanity.

“My love….i don’t dream,it’s true but when we are together at night i think-and just as Dazai said that is even better because I am thinking with rationality over heart like a Disney princess,me and you are DESTINED for eachother-you are like an angel to me,not because your pretty or even delicate but because you stand up and are fierce and faithful like ones from the stories…you bring light into my otherwise dark and sinful existence,my love….please listen when I say I feel like I am HUMAN with you….if I could indeed dream,it would always be you.”

Ok so here's the fairy tale meta thing based off a lie that I was talking about.

In Dead Apple, there's a flashback scene at Bar Lupin where Dazai explains the concept of apple suicide to Oda, while a track called "Dear Prince" plays in the background. There's a brief mix-up where Oda confuses the story of Snow White for Cinderella - but when I first came up with this, I misremembered what he said (I mixed up... his mix-up...) and thought the line was about Sleeping Beauty.

And I'm so unreasonably annoyed by this because that would've made so much more contextual sense. Why? Because they both involve an awakening. Moreover, there's a few interesting details in the environment of the older tales (I will not be using the Disney versions as the Dead Apple motifs actually connect better with the originals and also because I have never actually seen them... embarrassingly enough) that translate quite nicely to aspects of Dazai's life and bonds.

Specifically, there are some loose parallels to be found with Odasaku and the story of Sleeping Beauty, and Chuuya and the story of Snow White. (Note that this is not intended to be shipping fuel or anything; interpret it however you like, I'm just drawing connections.)

And yeah, I know this is an entire half-baked meta formed around a line that doesn't even exist but please just give it a chance or at least humour me please please please please please

Alright let's get the Cinderella thing out of the way first since I want to at least address it.

Cinderella has its origins in the old Greek story of Rhodopis, which sets up the main aspects of the story we know now: a servant girl from a poor background ascends to royalty through marrying a prince, who searches for her after finding her missing shoe. This doesn't really bear any resemblance to the rest of the movie or any other ongoing themes... unless you want to suggest that maybe Dazai's jumping from one side to the other was something akin to a "shoe-test"; that he was looking for a perfect fit. I think that's quite a stretch though and it's likely this really was just a throwaway line meant to show us Oda's occasional uh... airheadedness. If anyone has any further thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them.

It's a shame, really, because the slip up could've been given more significance and also because as an analyst of sorts it is my sworn duty to pull meaning out of absolutely nothing so I guess I took another step further here and made up my own line to analyze in stupidly excessive detail.

The entire point of this was meant to show how both the stories of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White have a theme of awakening, and so do Dazai's bonds with both Odasaku and Chuuya - they both have a function of "waking him up" in a sense. However, the means of doing so manifest very differently.

So, let's talk about Sleeping Beauty.

Sleeping Beauty has its origins in an old Italian story called Sun, Moon and Talia, which has many of the elements we know today but was uh. A lot darker. And way more non-consensual. The version the more modern story takes its roots from is Perrault's version. Here are the important bits to this analysis: the princess pricks her finger on a spindle out of curiosity, the good fairy puts everyone in the castle to sleep along with her for 100 years so that she will not be alone when she wakes, the prince does not wake her with a kiss but instead she wakes just by his presence and they sit and talk for a long, long time.

So, on to my delusional parallels. Part one: the princess pricks her finger out of curiosity. See, for Dead Apple, we have to rethink this a bit because Dazai brings up the concept of apple suicide, not murder. Of course, this is a parallel to himself and his disregard for his own life, so here we can take it that he did not "prick his finger" out of mere curiosity, but also, likely out of a desire to "sleep".

It's hard for me not to draw a connection between the curiosity aspect of the finger prick and Dazai's curiosity to join the mafia, especially with the next part - where everyone falls asleep as well for the time the princess is asleep. Essentially, no one will age or die. For as long as the princess remains unconscious, the world will not change. And if the princess perhaps, wanted this, then we can infer what is likely a fear of being left. Maybe even a fear of living. Dazai joined the mafia because he was curious if it would have what he sought. Instead, he spent his days trapped in an "oxidizing dream" as he detached further and further both from his humanity and from others. The mafia is already a place where people don't talk to each other openly and we know Dazai was even more unknowable than that - if he doesn't care about himself or others, the dream goes on. He stays asleep, and if he doesn't care, then he doesn't lose anyone - no one truly "dies".

As for the last part, there isn't much to say. Dazai warms up to Odasaku because the man just talks to him. And likes talking to him. And doesn't tell him to stop when he's being really freaking weird. But notably, Odasaku doesn't do much at first to help Dazai "awaken". It's only when he's about to die in his fight against Gide that he realizes he regrets not saying something sooner. Odasaku only has one chance to wake Dazai before he dies and he does it by shattering that dream that he will find what he's looking for. Paradoxically, that hope Dazai held onto was what trapped him in that singular mindset. Oda dies shortly after and the illusion is broken. Dazai wakes up, his world kickstarts where it had previously been stagnant and Dazai greets the sun and tries to live.

See why I'm slightly annoyed this wasn't the line now?

But hey, while we're at it, let's also talk about Snow White because the Dead Apple movie was actually a lot more firm with its connections than I think people realize.

Firstly, I would love people to know that in the original Grimms' fairy tale, Snow White doesn't clean the dwarves' house but in fact burgles it, eating their food, drinking their wine and falling asleep in one of their beds after testing each one, and generally leaving the house in complete disarray. Yeah. Not related to my point at all, but this sounds an awful lot like something Dazai would do (but more out of mischief than naivete of course).

Here's the important part though: Did you know that the Queen attempted to have Snow White killed not just once, but three times? The first two times, the dwarves were the ones to save her and quite quickly - they made a deal after she broke into their house that she would fix it up for them and maintain it in exchange for her staying with them in safety. It's an agreement of sorts, but as they became fond of her, they try and save her life in earnest. The poisoned apple is actually the third attempt to kill her, where the Queen bites into the white, non-poisoned part of the apple and Snow White, thinking it safe, eats the red half and falls asleep.

Hey. Remember the colour of the pill Dazai took in Dead Apple?

Yeah, someone on that team knows the original fairy tale.

Interestingly (and this is where I got really excited), there are three different attempts to kill Snow White (or, if Dazai is to be believed, three different attempts at her own self-destruction) - and there are three different instances where Chuuya "wakes" Dazai, twice while they're partnered (when they have an "agreement", terms in a sense as partners), and once in Dead Apple.

The first is in Fifteen, the infamous scene where Dazai shoots the body and Chuuya snaps him out of it by wrenching the gun out of his hands. I'm honestly a bit too tired to go super into that scene right now but I'm doing a little bit on it later - all that needs to be acknowledged here is that Dazai was out of it and Chuuya forced him back to earth. The second occurs during the Dragon's Head Conflict when Dazai is completely insensitive to the death of a mafia executive and Chuuya decks him for it. The now-infamous line "no one would believe that" is often misinterpreted I think. Chuuya says this in response to Dazai's "I'm human, too, you know." He's not saying "you're not human", he's saying "you are human but no one would believe that with the kind of shit you're saying and doing". It's the same kind of sentiment in the first scene where Chuuya intervenes, I believe. And it is a form of waking, in that Chuuya snaps Dazai out of his more inhumane moments - he basically calls him out and forces him to reevaluate; the epitome of a rude awakening.

Now for the Dead Apple scene proper.

Firstly, let's establish something. They are no longer partners in the mafia. They are even on separate sides. The framing of this changes Chuuya's actions from working with Dazai with occasional call-outs to bring him back to earth, to saving him in what is quite literally a rescue.

In the original myth, again, there is no waking kiss. Instead, in this third time, everyone assumes Snow White is really dead, that she will not be coming back. The prince, who happens across her, insists she at least receive a proper burial. But when carrying her coffin, one of them trips and they stumble, which jostles the princess enough that the piece of apple stuck in her throat is dislodged and she coughs it up, reviving. Uh...

Yeah.

Anyways this got kind of messy at the end and idk if it even made sense this is really just unhinged rambling so...

Tldr, Odasaku and Chuuya both help "wake" Dazai even if their methods and personalities are very different, which is part of the reason why both bonds are very important. Neither are particularly gentle with him, but waking, especially if all you want to do is sleep, is not a gentle thing.

no see i think it's great if dazai has big honkers i support dazai big tiddy rights seriously. and chuuya being a girl who is also boy, d'you know? girl 15 chuuya but plot twist no design change. Also the appeal of dazai having big boobers is that dazai is weirdly physically affectionate, so she'd probably give incredible hugs, those things go hand in hand y'know, so a tiny chick like chuuya would probably be having the greatest time ever.

Also with the prom art i made, dazai's suit is supposed to look like chuuya's pink tux from the wedding figures. and chuuya's wearing a BLUE dress bc blue is the dazai associated color and also i was thinking abt the disney cinderella who has a blue dress. bc in the princess spectrum dazai is a snow white while chuuya is a cinderella. does that make sense?

I’m writing from my phone because I have carpel tunnel and my hands hurt. Take these randomly assorted BSD hc’s:

(possible SB spoilers, but just the characters)

- Albatross has every piercing under the sun: like he’s got a nose ring, eyebrow piercing, snakebites… anything u can think of

- Oda wears rings 🤤, plays with them when he gets anxious (he’s also my husband)

- Chuuya is a summer child (born in the summer), so he love it when it’s hot af outside and drags his friends outside to go eat lunch with him or smth (HES HUMAN IN MY HEART STFU, I DONT WANNA HEAR IT RN)

- opposite to Chuuya, Dazai is a winter baby, but he also hates the cold

- sometimes Adam sends Chuuya random incriminated texts on his phone. It’s usually just something silly like “Hello! I hope you’re eating sugar and growing very healthy.” Or maybe a random fact like “Did you know that cows have a strong sense of smell? They can perceive smells at a distance of up to ten kilometres.” Chuuya will usually not respond back, but he scoffs and lets out a small laugh to himself before closing his phone

- Ango hates bugs, he will cry if he sees a spider sitting on his paperwork

- Oda and Ango when drunk are very enthusiastic and energetic. Oda will dance on the counter while pretending his glass is a mic. Ango will join him too- The only person that knows this side to them is Dazai

- animals love sigma for some reason. Like Disney princess style love sigma. Sigma however, hates that this happens to him, and actively avoids walking in forests or places where animals usually reside.

- Oda is a good dancer, like good… old style bar dancer. He’s quite impressive actually, and it’s attractive-

- Chuuya and Albatross both have heterochromia.

- Literally no one except for Chuuya has seen Albatross with his sunglasses off. That shit is basically glued to his face

- Verlaine is bougie as hell. Like I know he’s Mafia, but I think it’d be funny if he was… more bougie than like everyone else in the Mafia. Like he actively buys and wears expensive shit.

- Verlaine has a good hair routine.

- Doc may or may not have a plushie collection. And they may or may not all be sea animals

- Kunikida seems like he’d have an emo phase. Idk why… I just think he would.

- Despite only using one bar of soap for showering, Atsushi actually smells really nice for some reason (he smells like lavender)

- lippman is a swiftie, doc is a barb (I discussed this with one of my moots and now I can’t stop thinking about it)

- since it’s hinted is SB that Lippman would still make ppl fold at him wearing feminine clothes, I hc that he does not rly give a shit about gender or what one should/should not wear

- Chuuya has taken this tip from Lippman and has worn skirts before with his outfits

- the real reason why akutagawa dislikes mandarins (that’s canon btw) is because one time he was offered one to eat and as he was peeling it the mandarin juice got in his eye and he chopped it up into bits out of anger

- Chuuya only ate bread and soup when he was in the Sheep, since then Kouyou has introduced him to the finer foods in life, and Albatross introduced him to junk food

- Dazai used Chuuya’s shower when he was in the Mafia because he didn’t have a shower in that old ass storage container

- Oda does not pay for haircuts. He cuts his own hair, and one time he was too busy so he had to tie it up in a low pony

- Kunikida likes things that are weighted (weighted blankets, etc)

- Oda’s a little bit tanned because of jobs that have to do with being outside in the sun for long periods of time

It was 9 AM and there he was. Baking cupcakes and watching Disney movies with his two kids happily singing along.

He knew it was early, but he didn't care. His two-year-old son fills his batter with sprinkles. Claiming “these arwe mommy’s special cakies!” Much to his nine-year- old sister’s dismay who was making hers to match the theme of her favorite movie, “The Princess and The Frog.”

“Mommy will love everything you make. We’re both so proud of you two.” And he was. He was so proud of his little family.

I'm here rereading and thinking about the last chapter again so I'll throw here something I've noticed. I apologize in advance for my bad english and my poor skills in analyzing and exposing things.

Spoilers from chapter 101 ahead.

So let's start with the first panel, in which Chūya seems to be very tired: he's sweating and panting, as if he's reaching a limit. His eyes are whiter than the last time we saw him in chapter 98, there are fewer "wrinkles" under his eyes and even his fangs are significantly shorter. I think Harukawa-sensei drew a similar pose in both panels to allow us to notice these differences.

For the next bunch of panels we can only see Chūya's figure but he's faceless, so we can't get his expression.

Here we have the detail that rang an alarm bell in my poor and fucked up head.

"He's got the circuit already..."

I checked multiple translations plus the original japanese text in order to confirm that Fyodor was already aware of Dazai's plan from the start, he knew he would tamper with the circuit. And he gets scared, but just for a moment, 'cause his expression immediately changes in a more serious and concentrated one, as if he still has everything under control, as if he were waiting for it.

Even when Chūya starts to brutally punch the wall, Fyodor's eyes are clear and focused like we've never seen them before.

Then we have a close-up of Chūya's face again, where we can only see his still vampirized eyes but not his mouth, and again it's hard for us to tell exactly what kind of face he's "wearing".

In my opinion these two panels are just meant to be a glimpse of what Fyodor's seeing, they serve to draw attention to Chūya and his current state.

In fact, I think Fyodor's not looking at the wall to see if it will break. He's looking right at Chūya, he's evaluating his state. I mean look at his frowned expression: it's almost like he's calculating, maybe he's already planning an alternative escape route.

And only after having established that Chūya is still a vampire he says "this is bad". This can be referred to the fact that Dazai acted earlier than he had predicted and that Chūya is still a vampire. It's bad because it'll take a little more time for Chūya to regain his human form, and Fyodor clearly needs it to happen as soon as possible, even if we still don't know why.

Than we have the most painful panel of the entire chapter (of the entire manga, honestly), where Chūya is drowning and it seems that his "humanisation" is now completed, so here it comes what Fyodor is expecting from him.

Well, but what is Fyodor expecting from him? What should we expect?

Chūya obviously represents a key part of his plan, but in what way? If you think about it he hasn't played a part yet. Why is he here? Is he meant to deceive Dazai? Or to use Corruption?

[As much as I love Soukoku, I highly doubt that Chūya's been turned into human form by Dazai's voice, it's too "Disney Princess style", don't you think? We all know that the princess here is Dazai, but we're talking about Chūya now, it'd be out of character.]

C'mon, do you really think this is the face of someone on the verge of death? He has some plan in mind, he still has one, whether it's Chūya, his own ability, an external help or god knows what. He's mad as hell and I'm a bit scared of him right now, I think he will finally start acting serious.

In conclusion: it would be interesting to know if the vampire infection has a duration and I hope we'll get to know more about it in the next chapter, but I wouldn't be surprised if Asagiri took us back to where Aya and Bram are and gave us an explanation of a possible duration of the effect of his ability, if that was really the case.

Idk guys, maybe I'm just rumbling and all of this is so obvious for all of you that I'll make a fool of myself, but I wanted to point it out.
