That Jack's age is so obscure and not a graspable concept makes him the perfect canvas for all kinds of plots and tropes and clichés. And the Winchester brothers (and Castiel) make a perfect opposite.

All of them have a different approach to autonomy: physically, mentally, spiritually. All of them reluctantly gave up autonomy or it was forcibly taken away.

All of them have aged at different speeds: Castiel is literally ancient, Dean spent forty years in Hell, Sam has been in the Cage with Lucifer for nobody really knows how long.

All of them have different values and morals and views on the world. Sam has grown softer (or some would say, he partly surrendered), Dean has significantly hardened. (He held a gun to a girl's head FFS.)

All of them have very complicated feelings for Jack. Either it's like Dean who can't see past Jack's parentage and hates him for it, Sam seeing past Jack's parentage and loves him despite Lucifer being Jack's father and Castiel who discards Jack's parentage and takes fatherhood instead of Lucifer.

Each one of them has different motifs and motivations, while Sam feels mirrored by Jack, Dean feels repulsed and antagonised while Castiel feels like he is part of Jack.

Sam sees potential, Dean sees destruction, Castiel sees a boy.

Fight me on it, all of that makes it so damn easy for shippers to find an angle where these characters can be connected romantically or sexually. It can be problematic, it can be morally wrong, it can be a slippery slope, it can be abusive, but also, there's scenarios where it could work.

Personally, I love Sam with Jack, because I see Sam and Jack being paralleled as striking. I see Sam's will to teach Jack about the world. I see Sam's nature to protect Jack, I see Sam yearning to be someone's anchor. Not only Dean's.

I see Dean's jealousy being so universal, that it's not only about Sam bonding with someone else. It's about literally everything. Sam being physical with someone else. Sam loving someone else. Sam having another priority. You can't tell me this shit isn't fascinating.

It is. I won't argue about the fact it's complicated and morally grey and to be put in the taboo box immediately by some, because I understand why. But it's a very limited view of a character who is intentionally ambiguous. Think outside Jack's box.

Jack’s not sure where he is, but he knows that he’s in a world of pain. Every part of him feels tender. When he’s finally able to blink his eyes open, he sees nothing back dark sky and stars.

He moves - hears the crunch of gravel and suddenly feels it underneath his back. He’s laying in the middle of a road, then.

He doesn’t remember much - just running away from the bunker - and then...someone grabbed him. He shouldn’t have run away - especially not when his powers keep coming and going. Not when he’s so vulnerable.

It’s just that - Dean doesn’t want him there. That much was obvious. 

He grunts, trying to sit up. When he looks down, he lets out a sharp gasp - his jeans are torn - and covered in blood. His skin is bloodied, too, everywhere. Arms, legs - he can feel the pain now.

It’s almost like he’d been dragged on the road - - and he’s not healing, either. Clearly.

He looks down, and sees bruises on his arms. Did something else happen?

He’s trying to figure out how to stand when he hears a sharp voice.

“Jack!” 

It’s Dean - fear curls through him. He’s going to be absolutely furious.

Dean drops to his knees in front of him, and grabs his face. “Hey! Hey, look at me.”

Jack looks at him, swallowing thickly. 

“What the hell happened?”

“I...I don’t know.”

Dean looks down, clearly surveying Jack’s state. “Why’d you run away? Huh?”

Jack looks down.

“There are people out here who wanna hurt you! Which is why you weren’t supposed to leave!” 

“I...” Jack finally meets his hard gaze. “I’m sick of being - you don’t...you don’t even like me, Dean. Why would I stay?”

“So this kind of shit doesn’t happen to you!” Dean seems furious - but worried, too. Almost.

“I don’t know what happened.”

“Someone tore you to pieces, is what happened. Can you stand?”

“I don’t know. I’m in a lot of pain.” 

“Just...God, there’s so much blood. Fuck.” Dean takes off his plaid, and wraps it around Jack’s shoulders. “Gonna pull you up by your elbows.” He grabs him there, and hoists.

Jack moans, feet slipping on the gravel. “Ow - ow.”

“Shit. Okay - just. I’m gonna carry you. Alright?” Dean gets his arms under him, and picks him up. “Okay?”

Jack rests his head on Dean’s chest, too exhausted to argue. “Yeah. It’s fine.”

“You and I are gonna be having a talk once I pick all the dirt out of your skin, kid.”

I like this ask because it's like wohoo wincest yeah!!......... anyway... uh how about that deanjack???? That being said most of my deanjack thoughts involve wincest in some way so it works out. It's nothing new and I have said it 100 times but I've always been such a sucker for Jack reminding Dean of a younger Sam. I mean, the parallels are already in the text. Working that into what kind of samdean I feel like at the time, unrequited samdean where Dean uses Jack as a substitute for what he could never have? Very established samdean where Sam knows and is unhappy with it but has to let it slide because at least the two are getting along, at least Dean might let Jack live. It's all good. The Dean I headcanon whenever deanjack is involved is usually a pretty terrible person. I think he feels guilty about whatever he's started with Jack but I also don't think he cares enough to really let it get to him. Also just any comparison to Dean being weathered and Jack being young and spry makes me crazy.

I don't know if you wanted anything specific but I've been thinking about xmas (happy December) and what it would look like in the bunker. We can add a quick deanjack lens to it. Intentionally spiked eggnog leads to poor decisions, and Dean had explained to him that Christmas is about expressing gratitude to the people you love. The tree they pick and cut down is colossal when looking up at it from the floor.

the tricky thing about saying that dean isn't the worst person alive for having emotions about his mom being killed is that then people think they can say jack is the worst person alive on your posts and in your inbox. i just want to fingerpaint with a little complexity. did you guys know that when you mix blue and yellow you get green? and that you can altar the shade of green based on how much blue or yellow you use? did you know that sometimes nobody is the villain? sometimes a character just added a little too much yellow and now there's a horrid shade of green and that's unfortunate but it is very much still green. and we can always add more blue if we want. it's fine.
