James stood there shaking his head slowly, trying to get the words his boyfriend just said to him to make sense. 

“What do you mean it’s against your beliefs and you won’t do it?” Regulus shrugged at him,

“It’s exactly what I said. If I do what you’ve asked of me the entire philosophy that I have built my life around would be brought into question. Sirius and Remus agree with me.” He gestured lazily towards them. James followed Regulus’s fingers to look at his two best friends. They were both sat on the floor by Sirius’s bed, red blankets wrapped around them. Sirius was snuggled up to Remus’s side and nodding profusely.

“Yes, yes, Regulus is correct.” Sirius agreed loudly. Remus nodded once to confirm his agreement. 

James took a deep breath readying himself for the dramatics that were sure to ensue with his next sentence. 

“You will be just as high whether the window is open or not.” He told them all sternly. 

Sirius jumped to his feet and pointed at James. 

“BLASPHEMY!” He yelled. There was a second of silence before they were all laughing their heads off. 

Regulus sidled up to stand beside James. 

“It’s no use love you won’t win.” He told him, offering him his spliff. “That window is staying closed.”

“Can’t you just…” James started. 

“Nope, it's not happening. I refuse to let you open a window.” Regulus said nonchalantly, lifting the spliff to his lips for another drag. 

“Fine,” James said resigning himself to being stuck in the smoky room. At least Regulus was there.

This black and white photograph mounted on a card shows about a dozen African-American sailors sitting and standing around a table.  Several read books, one types at a typewriter and three are writing by hand.  There are three men who are not in Navy uniforms in the picture as well.  A framed photograph of President Woodrow Wilson hangs in the back of the room.
