Both Paul G. and Eoin suggested Eadweard Muybridge as an reference artist for my movement brief (given that I am looking at horse sports). While I'm not good at names, I did know Muybridge's work.
He was called in to prove, once and for all, whether a running horse's hooves are all off the ground at the same time (in 1872).

Over a century later, when I was shooting at Del Mar racetrack, I quickly learned from other photographers that the goal was to get an in focus image, with motion blur and all four of the horse's legs off the ground.
