The Broken Destiel Seals: A Semicomprehensive Unillustrated List

(So far)

I didn't complete my (self-appointed) assignment for Destiel Day, which was to compile a complete list of every time Destiel went canon (thus breaking one of the Sixty-Six Seals: when they all fall, the pale coconuts will collide), with nice gifs. To me, Destiel is "canonized" by persons/entities who officially create and distribute the show: producers, writers, actors, directors, other crew, translators, and networks.

Have, instead, this work in progress.

November 5, 2020, 15x18, “Despair”: Cas declares his love.

Then:

Nov. 11, 2020: Misha Collins at DCLOnline: “It was a long time in the making. It was really important to [Robert Berens] and really important to me. When he pitched me the storyline it gave me chills. I thought - this is awesome. This vindication and this expression of love - at the end - it makes it all worth it. I was really happy about it. You know, it’s interesting, there are some fans who are asexual who have taken solace in the fact that Cas hasn’t made this kind of declaration [before] so I feel bad that those fans might get a little bit alienated. However, I’m sure that a lot of them are also okay with this. There’s a trope in Hollywood of “kill the gays” and so Cas meeting with his demise only seconds after making this homosexual declaration of love fits into that fairly insidious trope, however, for some reason, that is, in my mind, not really as important as the declaration itself.”

Note: Someone in the future will earn their doctorate in psychology studying Jensen Ackles's tangled pronouns when he talks about Dean.

[cackling] nothing funnier than a 2po nonnie trying to talk to him about The Boys, Walker and Windy, only for him to start peeing his pants yelling there's no Destiel in The Winchesters. Nonnie's gotta be like "Um.... ok?"

And then just "Jensen said." No he didn't, bitch. Maybe in your proven quantum tunnel of M&G lies. He's said the opposite, you just refuse to listen. And you know it. That's why it's living rent free in your head. Someone be like "Hey, did you watch Ninja Warrior last night?" and you're so freaked the fuck out you just break out screaming "THERE'S NO DESTIEL!!!!" because that's literally all you can fucking think about, your commitment to denial, and just... hoping nobody asks your SOURCE? On "Jensen said no Destiel in TW"?

Because like. Boy, buddy. Let me tell you something. If you're about to appeal to shit that's off the record by him, you're gonna have a REAL bad time with anyone that knows WHY I've known what I know the last year and a half.

Keep up your pressurized squealing now that Wiki's cut you off from burning her. Now that EVERYONE knows you lie about your greets and warp them severely. Oh, and by the way, I figured out why you couldn't doxx the broad side of the barn. Just because Gayle overheard a friend of mine having a personal conversation with Misha doesn't mean that they were your target, yall. Not that you should have had a target to begin with. But again, now fandom knows this, and the violent threats, and everything about you, and the people that shelter you and help you in spnscripthunt.

And most of all, if we're appealing to shit off the record:

Jensen has actually said, repeatedly, that Dean and Cas as a gay unit are in fact part of the Winchesters. And I knew that since December 2020, before it was even The Winchesters (or more, his regrets that were eating him alive that took shape into the show). And I knew that again in May 2021, when it became The Winchesters. And the Dencon after and the J2 fight it caused and I framed it to the absurdity it was in reality, to wii music. And I knew that again in September 2022, when he told even more people. And again at Vancon, when he repeated verbatim the time and moment he Had A Different Take I'd mentioned since Dec 2020, in a weird full circle, that you pretend you can't speak english to understand in full.

Dude. It's over. We are no longer In That Moment. We're well past The Next Setup. And we're blowing Every Light February 2023.

I'm starting to think their 404 error is how loud this makes me knowing about this shit HOW long before Jared likeSKDJFskdjfsdf that's gotta be it. Does not compute. their system crashes and they forget this exchange and line themselves up to fall down on the next one. Guys, it was need-to-know. Jared, like any other late cameo star, didn't need to know yet. Sure, Dierx and Drake met Misha first (well, early, not Literally First). Because it was Need to Know. Whatever that fills in with context on the rest of this post, cest la vie. Subtext. Now Cope. The louder you deny Robbie's revenge for what it is, the deeper the cut will bleed, so if you'd like to lose your innards across the fandom floor in front of a crowd, keep going. Fine, but know you gutted yourself.

I just have to get this off my chest because it's been bothering me ever since I saw a particular post about Danneel (I'll mention below) earlier and all of the ridiculousness I've seen this weekend about J2M as well:

Holy fucking shit. I knew with Jibcon being this weekend that there would be so much drama happening (like always) but I can't believe some of the takes I've seen from what these guys have said. This, to me, is an all-new low for this fandom.

First of all, while I am not a Jared fan (I don't hate the guy, I'm just indifferent to him if that makes sense) and while I have repeatedly claimed that I despise 15x20 and Dean's death, when I read his answer to that finale question (I haven't watched the panel yet but I plan to), I did not automatically take it as him saying that Dean deserved to die or that he deserved to live a half life or any of it. Do I agree with his opinion (at first mention I mean)? No, but it's just that, his opinion. Since the whole DenCon 2021 disaster, I've actually done a deep dive with this guy and I have come to appreciate his opinions on things related to the show and industry, even if I may not necessarily agree with him all of the time. I don't think he's an evil guy or sitting around hatching evil schemes to screw over Jensen, Misha, Dean, Cas, or their fans or anything like it. The guy's human and he has opinions, just like every other human being on the planet. Can we please try to come from that perspective when we hear something he said rather than running around screaming "FOUL!" before the guy is even finished speaking? I'm guilty of making that mistake in the past but now I try to come from a more objective and compassionate perspective when I hear something, and then look into it for myself. And each time I find that his words/intention consistently gets misconstrued and painted in a light that was never there in the first place. Which brings me to my second point:

When it comes to Danneel, I am not per se a fan of hers either, I am also rather indifferent to her as I am to Jared or Misha. I don't hate her and even though I don't condone any of what could be characterized as "bad behavior" from the past (i.e. her old tweets and responses to people), like Jared for example, she is also another human being and like any other human being, people do change and they do grow as they get older/have more experiences. She may still behave in a similar manner (though we haven't seen this publicly that I am aware of) or she may not (when you have kids, things tend to change your perspective usually), either way it doesn't matter when it comes to what I'm about to mention. Criticize the woman or don't criticize her, love her or hate her, whatever your reasons, can we PLEASE stop with the bullshit? And what I mean by the bullshit is this:

Jensen mentioned that he was tired in his solo panel today because Danneel wanted to stay up the night before because she hadn't been to Rome in 11 years. All of a sudden, antis (and one severely worrying individual in particular who apparently has a hard time distinguishing fiction from reality when it comes to this couple aka one hgcowboy - you know the one): DANNEEL IS ABUSING HIM BY DEPRIVING HIM OF SLEEP!!!! HOW DARE SHE!!!

Like, are you fucking kidding me? I may be indifferent to the woman or give two figs about her really but how do you get from Jensen being tired from a late night out with his wife to her ABUSING him? And this is characterized as intentional sleep deprivation? Obviously this person (hgcowboy) has never been psychologically abused like this (which is obviously a good thing) nor has she ever spoken to someone who has been through such an ordeal (I am someone who has been through that for example); that's more than evident from this commentary she posted.

1) Danneel wanting to stay out late because this is the one time she's been to Rome in 11 years (and obviously the first time with their kids) is NOT abuse. Have you ever had kids? Have you been married with said kids? There is nothing wrong with Mommy and Daddy having a night out, especially in a place that Mommy doesn't always get to visit (which is why I'm willing to bet that Jensen agreed to stay up despite his early schedule the next day). It doesn't matter that Jensen had a con the next day. The circumstances being what they are change Jensen's usual schedule. If he wasn't married and dating someone instead or took his mom there and she wanted to enjoy a night out or Daniela did as Jensen first joked, is that abuse, too? Simple answer: no. Can it be inconsiderate if (and that's a big IF) that person's intentions were purely self-involved? Sure. But NOT abuse.

2) Jensen is a GROWN ASS MAN. He can make his own decisions. For example, he said yesterday that he likes to go on the Tower of Terror ride (or whatever they call it these days) like JJ, but Danneel doesn't like the ride. He still makes the decision to go on that ride no matter that she doesn't like it. HE MAKES HIS OWN CHOICES. He could have told Danneel no about staying up but he didn't. He chose to go anyway, knowing he had an early morning. That's on him, not her, no matter the reasoning behind his making the decision. He is responsible for himself. Stop pulling shit out of thin air to justify your hatred and jealousy, seriously.

3) As an abuse survivor, I am flat out asking that hgcowboy: can you please stop fucking throwing the word ABUSE around because you're insanely jealous of the woman who Jensen took with him to Rome and it's not you? Like seriously "Sleep deprivation IS abuse" - perhaps learn what actual abuse is and stop throwing that fucking word around (especially in this fucking context) for your own reasons and so you can keep your ongoing fantasy that Jensen is going to leave his wife for you for whenever the next time you meet him is (if you actually met him as you claimed). This is not the first time you've done this when it comes to the topic of Jensen and Danneel, and it needs to STOP. Every time you do it to justify your hatred and jealousy of a woman that the guy you're obsessed with is married to, you do harm to actual abuse survivors such as myself. Abuse is a serious subject and that word should not be thrown around lightly. Idgaf if you hate Danneel, you want to keep that toxicity going (as all hatred is), that's your business, but stop fucking using that word and STOP acting/saying it like you are an expert on the matter, like you do on everything else you talk about like acting, the industry, branding, Jensen's mental state, Danneel's mental state, their kids' mental states (remember that disgusting post you made about their youngest daughter because you couldn't distinguish a joking story from actual reality? saying she was a sociopath in the making? because I sure do), and psychology (spoiler alert on that one: you're not). Because from that statement alone, you clearly don't know what the fuck you're talking about. And it is absolutely disrespectful and damaging to the abuse survivor community when you say that shit and put it out into the universe. You really should be ashamed of yourself.

And those who have actually experienced abuse in any form know exactly how serious that word is, the kind of impact labeling a situation or event as such actually has, and would never use it so disrespectfully and so casually. Like I said, you ought to be ashamed.

Now for those who say Jensen was name dropping when talking about being a producer, did y'all actually watch the panel where he talks about it? He was stating how hard it was to actually get a project onto the air, no matter what the circumstances, i.e. having names attached that were highly successful. Where is the name dropping? Where is this him being so arrogant that he made himself sound like Thee Producer? Have y'all not learned by now to watch the panels for yourselves and not 100% trust the tweets that come out of these rooms? Meaning that their interpretation or translation and context may not always come across in their tweets? How many times does this need to happen in order for you to finally get it? And you guys say you're the critically thinking ones? Yeah, not so much.

Have your opinions, express them freely on your blogs or chosen social media, love/like or hate/dislike who/what you want, but for Christ's sake, can we please inject some rationale into this fandom once and for all? Not everything these guys say is meant to be taken literally or to be a sign of them being in a hostage situation with their wives that only you can help them escape from (looking at you blogger I mentioned above; just admit you're obsessed with Jensen and that's why you hate Danneel so much and go). Perhaps not all is right in the Jenneel world, perhaps there really is a separation on the horizon, perhaps there isn't, either way, it doesn't matter. It doesn't give you the right to throw that word around so casually. And you obviously haven't learned since your last claim of "abuse" that people were doing to Jared when a fan told him not to cry or she would start crying (not meant in a negative or demeaning way to him at all) in a panel a year or so ago. It's clear that you do not understand what that word means. If you truly care about the abuse survivor community, you'll stop using it for your own justifications, fantasies, and anti blog discourse.

And while we're at it, let's all just admit that half of the shit that's said about these guys (and their wives) would never be said to their faces. I seriously doubt you would say it to anyone's face if you had to look them in the eye and say it. You don't have to like these guys or these women, you're free to have your opinions and express them, but can we seriously stop with the exaggerated speculation and outlandish analysis of each word that comes out of these guys' mouths about every single aspect of their lives? We are not inside their heads, their homes, their marriages/relationships, or the inner working of their careers. Does that mean that each individual hasn't done something worth of legitimate criticism? No. They're human beings on a very public stage. Each one of them has done or said something that is not desirable and perhaps has caused you to un-fan them so to speak. But does that mean all of this fighting (i.e. Jensen fandom vs Jared fandom & Jared fandom vs Misha fandom) and toxicity and drama and spreading of negativity needs to continue? No. Why can't we just enjoy what we enjoy about this series and/or these guys and leave it at that?

It's just beyond frustrating. I swear, if I could make my own tag for this show and Jensen on here, I would. Tumblr has to come up with a better filtering tag system than the one they currently have in place.

Tbh I think it's partly our fault. We need to accept that Jensen will never give it to us. Whatever his reason here is is beyond my interest. He simply will never say Dean was bi and in love with Cas. We can however stop seeing him as any kind of authority on this because otherwise well be always doomed to feel disappointed. We have just as much right to see Dean however we want as has Jensen (and even Jensen doesn't argue with that!). But the reality is that it still sucks that Destiel is this wonderful and very special thing and one of the actors that helped create it thinks people only care about it as this sexual thing. I just wish he knew why we all love Dean & Cas so much. With all due respect there have been hotter actors and gay tv couples than them and there will be again. That's not what it is about. Wish we could somehow explain that to him. Sigh.

90% of the script did not change. unfortunately the very end changed when dean finds sam on the bridge - that was not in the script. the original - i wish jared was here - you have to ask him his version - originally supposed to be a roadhouse, where you find sam walking up a road to the roadhouse, out walks dean, they meet in the dusty parking lot, same convo as on the bridge, and then dean says “come on in” and then everyone we knew from the past would have been there, and Kansas was going to be playing. that’s what covid took away from us.

okay, wow...um...not even going to lie, that hit me in the heart a bit. i'm not sure if it's because i already went into the video with dread, i went in expecting it to be bad based on what i've heard from tumblr and instagram and i already had preconceived notions about this. so maybe i was hit so easily because i went in with a subconsciously negative attitude. but...um. idk i just... Jensen: i think 'romantic'-- Jared: i think the point is-- Jensen: i think the term 'romantic' is being used because there isn't a term that necessarily-- Jared: he's 'junkless', you know? Jensen: uh, yeah...(indiscernible) i don't think lust is--is involved with the romanticism Jared: i don't think it's the point that they both have...pause...uh...human male bodies, seemingly...and...want to...sleep with each other, i think the point is that, like, you could love anything.

Jared then goes on to discuss two scenarios where the phrase "I love you" was used very flippantly and without and romantic connotation or meaning behind it. it was used in a way of acquaintances, similarly to the context it's used in for the phrase "love your neighbor as yourself". in this sense, it seems like Jared's definition of love is being used to mean "I will not/do not hate you" for the first one, and "a strong emotion conveying gratitude" for the second. he then said he says it to his friends and to Jensen all the time, and that in none of these cases does it mean "i wanna take you to a hotel room".

then he goes on to say that the "point" of deancas "story-wise" is that Cas loved Dean in just the same way Jared explained above. not romantically, but platonically. similarly to how Sam and Dean love each other, how the actors love their friends.

but okay, Jar, if that's the case, then why wasn't Sam present for the confession? If there was nothing romantic about Cas's confession, and he was just platonically stating that he loved Dean like family, then why doesn't the same apply for Sam? like how it was in Stuck in the Middle (With You), when Cas blatantly said the words "I love you" to all of them, no tears in his eyes, no speech about Dean specifically changing him and teaching him how to love. which is another thing...

you mean to tell me that the whole speech Castiel gave to Dean was merely nothing but a platonic/familial declaration of love? Cas poured his heart out and bore his soul to Dean in those words. that would be a stretch for the whole scenario to be "no homo, bro"

and back to Cas being "junkless"...the topic was posed of when Dean realized Cas loved him and it was discussed in a romantic sense. Cas doesn't NEED "junk" to be in deep romantic love with Dean. nobody needs any type of "junk" to experience romantic love. romance doesn't have anything to do with the fact that they "both have human male bodies, seemingly" because romantic love depends entirely on personality. somebody's body, looks and/or physical attributes and attractiveness fall under aesthetic, sensual or physical attraction, not romantic. as somebody on the asexual spectrum, this hit me in the heart. maybe i'm just being overly analytical and overly emotional, but is this man that i've (non-romantically, since we should specify) loved and admired for years insinuating that there is no difference between romantic and sexual love/attraction? that romantic love can not exist without the existence or use of one's "junk"? or am i being too sensitive?

Jared compared Cas's love for Dean to Sam and Dean's love for each other, and backed up that statement by saying "it's not a show about incest", essentially drawing a line between the two types of love and saying they're the same. when that just doesn't seem true for us.

and he said it's "not a show about heterosexuality or nonbinary." it's a show about being able to choose to live your life with love. that this doesn't mean "hey, they wanna make out". and then goes on to say his love for his son or daughter doesn't mean he wants to "do stuff" to them...like....okay?? and that the point is simply being free to love and loving who you want.

but then my mans goes on to say that you can be hetero and love whoever you want, you can be queer and love whoever you want, anybody in the LGBTQIA+ community can love "whoever the fxck they want".....so then....why can't....Cas....love Dean....romantically?? why is this being taken away from us? why are we being told this isn't the way it is when Misha essentially said "haha yes I'm going to do a gay". we all know Misha carries Cas on his shoulders and in his heart. Misha is Cas. they can write Cas however they want, but ultimately, it's up to Misha on how he plays it. if it made sense to Misha, who has played Cas for 10 years, to say that he loved Dean in a gay way, then that's as close to canon as it can get imo. if Misha can fit the entirety of Cas's persona and all his interactions with Dean and wrap it up with the bow of a romantic "I love you", then it cannot be taken away from him or us. Misha could have been playing Cas like that from day one. he could have decided somewhere down the line that Cas fell for Dean. it wouldn't change the way he played him and it wouldn't need to be said, because we know Cas couldn't say it. so maybe Misha didn't either. we'll never know what Misha's thoughts behind that was. and it is not our place (nor anyone else in the cast) to determine what Cas meant by his confession.

why would Cas's true happiness be something he has already said? when Cas got stabbed by the prince of hell, he looked them all in the eyes and told them he loved them, all the same way. he said "i love you" straight to dean, but clarified "i love you all". maybe that was a first attempt at trying to get his truth out, but it didn't go right. so he had years to find the right words to tell his truth in his way. and he knew that the ball was in his court, and he could hold off until he was ready. but just saying "i love you" as a no homo bro thing....he has done that already. it's been done. why would he need to do it again? this would have to be something dean didn't know...something he never saw

Cas is a character who has brought so many people, including myself, hope and love in dark times. we have found comfort in him, solace and strength in him. some of us have found ourselves in him, or seen him as a protector or a mentor. now Misha has given us him as a queer icon as well. and the way it was revealed directly at the end of his life may have been cheesy and cliche, but it also doesn’t undermine or change a single thing about his character or the decisions he made or who he was. Cas is still Cas. him being in love with Dean was just written into the story, woven in along the way. It was a part of him and a part of who he was. Dean didn’t have to love him back. Cas just knew his own truth. please don’t take this away from us or him. let him have his identity out in the light for the first time, now that he’s finally comfortable to do so.

like the Greek words for love, there are many types and definitions that we have tried to fit into the one word "love". Cas says in his speech that Dean essentially taught him agape, pragma and philia (love of everyone, longstanding love and deep friendship.)

Misha himself confirmed that Cas also meant something mixing between ludus and eros depending on your understanding of each. for some, ludus or playful, lovely love, is flirtatious and easygoing love, or puppy love, while eros or passionate love, can mean anything from romance to sexual love. Jared is saying the only kind of love Cas had for Dean was philia or storge (family love) which directly contradicts what Misha has told us and how Misha played the role and delivered the lines.

i don't know. i really don't. long, long story short is that i'm hurt, as are many of us. i'm hurt because to me, it seems like Jared directly contradicted what Misha said and the way he intended for Cas's words to be interpreted. to me, i felt hurt by Jared comparing Cas and Dean's romantic love to inc3st or p3dophilia. to me i felt like the "junkless" comment could be interpreted in a way that was invalidating towards asexuals and a-spec people such as myself. i really don't know. just as i said earlier, just as none of us can say for sure what Misha truly thought, felt and intended behind Cas and his words, none of us can say for sure what Jared truly thought, felt and intended through this speech either. all i know is I would like more clarification, because seeing and hearing all of this, as well as input from many people in the fandom, has left a bruise on my adoration and happiness for this man. and that genuinely hurts my heart. i don't know what to think. i have loved him for years (again, non-romantically, just to clear it up) and he has inspired me to stay strong and Always Keep Fighting. he has indirectly saved my life and helped me get through some of my darkest times. but i'm scared i may be led to question 7 years of deep connection to somebody because if they do not approve of and accept those with my identity...my connection is meaningless and hypocritical. and when it all boils down to it, over the last few years, i don't know who i am without SPN or without my connection to Jared Padalecki.

and that scares me.
