And the levee breaks! A week and a half late is better than never, right? I fell into a few bad old habits on this page that ended up making it take a bit longer than it should have. Something about drawing trees makes me start going overboard with hatching and details. Unfortunately, I think this page came out looking a little busy as a result, but hey, live and learn.

Well, there you have it, the moment we’ve been building up to. I had originally planned for all of this to happen in a much shorter number of pages, but I kept asking myself logistical questions, and those questions led to new scenes and set pieces, which led to new questions that I felt I needed to answer, and the whole thing just kind of snowballed. Thankfully we’re on the home stretch, and I have some more time off from work coming up and I plan to use that to crank through the rest of the chapter as quickly as possible.

It’s the final countdown, 9 pages to go!

As for the long delay getting this page out the door, I’m sorry about that. It was one of the more challenging pages I’ve had to draw, in a comic that seems to be made up of nothing BUT challenging pages, a feature owing slightly more to my poor planning than it does to my almost crippling desire to hear people say things like: “wow man, that sure must have taken you a long time”, but it’s a narrow margin.

The second issue that came up on this page is, tragically, after a long hiatus I’m back to work. That is: I’m back to taking on storyboarding jobs regularly, at least when they pop up. My amazing wife, Meg Syv (of Daughter of the Lilies fame), has kindly been holding down the fort for us while I’ve struggled to figure out exactly what I’m doing with this comic and how I plan to move forward with it (I’ve been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work, I swear!), but the time has come for me to get back to it. The unfortunate thing about that is I do have to get used to juggling comic and work again, and trying to do so in such a way as I don’t burn myself out entirely. It’s a delicate equilibrium to maintain, and if I know anything about myself, I’m often going to fall short. This was one such time. Apologies.

There are a few more action packed pages to go in this chapter, but I’m going to do my best to keep them coming semi-regularly! Thanks for reading!
