Because there's no Princess Aurora, without Briar Rose! 🌹

She was another kind of challenge, but a challenge nonetheless 👀 This time I wanted to stray from the usual sweet expression, and went more with a "bratty" one 😁

Problem is, when trying to achieve it, it's so easy to actually step into "evil smile" territory 🤣

This repaint was actually my second attempt, after the first one I decided to take a day or two to really study her mold, and finally get what wasn't working...In the end, I went the hard way, and partially resculpted her face, while afraid to ruin a LE head, I knew I wouldn't have been satisfied otherwise, go big or go home basically 😅

For the dress, I've mostly kept the original concept in mind, with the same colors I remember from the VHS (the palette of the outfit on the restored version is too gray for my taste, give me the cream, the turtle dove, the beige, the maroon!!), saving the tiny spinning wheel embroidery on the corset...it seems like this doll has been one big experiment from start to finish 👀

In the end, I love how she turned out, and most of all I'm glad I didn't give up on the expression, I really hate to take the easy way, I know it would have frustrated me too much to leave untouched 😵‍💫

Better make that kind of decision at the start of the process than at the end 🫠

So @gayfergus sent me these amazing pictures of two rare Disney Dolls that came out in the 90s of a couple of Mermaid girls meant to be Ariel's friends

Don't know why her box art tail and shell colors are different then the dolls but gotta say I adore how she has a underwater Walkman xD

Nothing says 90s Teen like a Walkman! Even if its under the sea and before the invention of electronic x)

I dunno the 'Swimman” probably works with magic or 'eel-lectricity' or something xD

Looking up these two led me to find Ariel’s other “Cool Teen” friend (my gosh that’s so ‘Hello fellow kids’):

Pearl!

Who apparently has a “Shell-o-phone” (can’t be a Shellphone cuz it has a seaweed cord I love it xD)

Also Cool Teen Ariel apparently came with under water Pizza xD

But I love that this adds to Ariel have more friends/peers and that so many of them are POC!

Pulled Asha and Isabela off my shelf to compare.

They do not look the same. brown girls just look good in colours like purple and yellow the same way people say blondes look good with pink and blue and redheads with green, it’s not a surprise the character artists working on this movie wanted to use complimentary colours in character designing

I got my dolls reorganized after my dad and I put together the new shelves. I think it's looking snazzy and I'm excited to give a brief doll collection tour. My collection has several different types, though I'd say Rainbow High and Barbie are the majority of my collection. I know I probably have too many, but I love them. One of my all time favorites is still my Kida doll because she was my favorite princess as a kid. I have a hard time picking favorites though.

Here she is, Princess Aurora, finally complete ❤️

Aw gosh, you guys have no idea how obsessed I am with her!!

Okay, okay, a little info about this doll and how it came to be 👀

Obviously, I wanted to play with the blue/pink dress, and I actually picked this fabric almost three-four years ago I think especially for this project, but then it stayed on the bottom of the fabric chest for a long time, waiting for its moment, and it finally arrived!

For the general look (her hair color, her eyes, her make up and her color palette in general), you might notice that it's darker than what we are used to with any Aurora doll, and here's why: since I was a kid, watching the movie on the VHS, there was one single frame where she was showed sleeping in her dark room, at night, with impossibly gold hair, that kept me glued to the tv screen, I loved it sooo much! And when she finally opened her eyes at the end of the movie...Blue blue blue eyes, aww I was in love!!!

So yeah, while she is usually represented with purple/violet eyes and blonde hair, here I wanted to show that specific version of her, at nighttime and with little light, and here's the result 💜

I hope you like her, because there's a lot more to come! ❤️
